Started out with an Ele. Ele still has the most map completion.
Switched to a Thief for WvWvW, which was my favorite thing to play in the game. Still is.
Switched to a Necro. Necro is now my main. Play my necro for all WvWvW and now I just started sPVP and am playing Necro there.
I also have a level 80 Engineer I play for fun.
I have 8 characters, 1 of each profession.
I find the game needs a main because there is no way I would have enough time to get Ascended Gear for 8, and WvWvW levels for 8. Unpossible. So, Necro’s my main and the rest I play for fun.
Makes me mad that the two major staff traits are in a line where the minor traits are worthless.
TG is afraid of our Zerg? We’re too big when we’re outnumbered apparently.
I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard as I did last night watching them repeatedly run away from fights where they clearly outnumbered us.
We got so bored with you running away we all /sleep at the towers after you leave.
Seri Kali [Me] – 80 Necromancer
I threw $60 away on Diablo 3. I stopped playing it after a week. I’ve already gotten more mileage out of this pick than I did Diablo 3.
So true. What a pile that game was.
Yes. 1 Laurel, 1 Jug of Karma. Worth it. Daily takes me 15 minutes to half hour at the most if I’m focused on it. I only focus on it if I have to.
I am happy with my purchase I got only one and its for my main. I don’t think this game will ever will be alt friendly so I will continue to get the top tier stuff for my main and play my alts for fun.
I’ll enjoy the molten hot lava spewing into my face every swing!
I did exactly the same thing for exactly the same reasons. It took my 3rd 80 to find my main, but now I have it.
I don’t know what game this user is playing. Queensdale is always full on the server I play on. Folks ping-ponging from Champion Boar, to Wasp, to Oakheart, to Troll. And when Shadow Behemoth spawns look out.
Wayfarer’s is usually always busy, especially around the Maw spawn.
Metrica is a little less busy but when the Elmental goes up then it’s mobbed.
To be honest the entire trait system is a mess for all the classes. Probably my least favorite part of the game (and build design is my favorite part of any game usually). Between that and the disaster that elite skills tend to be all the classes need a lot of work.
I’d rather have trees and have the ability to have Wells Master, or Minion Master, or Staff Mastery and have those build up to a really good trait at the end. As it is I have 30 in Death Magic for my build. All 3 major traits are adept and 2 of the 3 minor traits are worthless. This wouldn’t happen if we had some sort of tree system instead of this lazy linear junk.
Oh, and why are staff skills in the Minion-Toughness line?

Keys are for buying, not for dropping.
Next.
The reason this is an issue is they attached laurels to dailies. I like dailies the way there were. I don’t like the entire system around ascended gear. I think it was very poorly implemented and thought out and attaching it to dailies/monthlies and guild missions is horrible problem solving by Arena.
The game is designed to make you feel obligated to login and to make you feel behind like a mouse on a wheel. That’s what MMO’s do. It’s not casual, it’s never casual.
That being said this game is more casual friendly than most. Although I do agree that the token/currency system in this game is massively flawed. Makes many things that I would like unavailable to me. That’s ok though. It’s about picking and choosing. I know I’ll never be the same as those that can login for a gazillion hours a week. It’s unpossible.
Sure, why not?
But it’s more RNG anyway. I’ve bought a lot of boxes and no mini.
As a Necromancer, I’d rather swap my elite for the ability to equip a third weapon set.
I know some people like daggers, and axes, and warhorns, and scepters. Frankly the only weapon I find worth a darn is the staff. I have the warhorn on the switch out just for the speed boost.
It would be a great addition if you were able to select any skill you wanted in the elite spot and I think this thread is about that. I doubt it will happen but it sure would be nice if it did.
This is the lowest level dungeon. I don’t get why they’d make it such a pain.
I’d drop the elite on Necromancer, Guardian, and Elementalist without thinking twice.
I’d usually drop it on the Engineer.
I’d situationally drop it on Thief and Ranger.
I don’t think I’d ever drop it on Warrior or Mesmer.
This is the correct answer.
Actually, I’d move Necro to the "situationally: list. Plague 2 for blind can be very helpful in limited situations, and the extra health it provides can make a difference solo by giving the heal time to get off CD.
Other than that… well, a lot of the elites just aren’t worth taking.
Meh. I’d rather have an extra well on my skill bar instead of plague. With the traits I use that would be way more powerful than an elite.
My main question is: why skip fights/content to get gear faster that will only help you to skip more later? All sides of the argument are welcome!
Trash mobs in GW2 have too much hp and too little reward. They drop next to nothing. Chests are the reward in a GW2 dungeon…. that and completing the daily bonus.
Trash in GW2 isn’t like in other mmo’s. It leashes and will de-aggro at a certain point. Even the dungeon designers have said that trash is an optional thing and the decision to skip is up to the group.
Skipping trash isn’t hard but it generally does take some experience to avoid getting killed. You have to be able to dodge (which a lot of players haven’t learned well… yet) and you have to use the right utilities. Sometimes you need to change weapons.
And lastly, if you kill all the trash in a run it can add 20-30 minutes to say a Twilight Arbor path. Then again if your group cant skip trash and continually wipe its going to take at least that long as well.
Imho trash in GW2 dungeons should be skipped IF you want to complete dungeons efficiently and cleanly. And by efficiently I mean….. fun, minimal extra time wasted on non-profitable things…. best gold for the time you spend in a dungeon. But this subject itself is a bit arguementative according to skill level.
And this is why I think every dungeon I’ve been in in Guild Wars 2 is crap compared to the dungeons I ran in WOW. WOW had much better dungeon design (I only played it the first year so I don’t know what happened after that) than GW2. I don’t play GW2 for dungeons and I never will. Thank God there is enough other stuff to do or this game would have been quit as fast as I quit Diablo III.
Would in a heartbeat. On both my necro and engineer which are my two mains right now.
I’m sure you didn’t see people building castles and towers with in siege distance either.
Correct. More insanity in the game design. Certain Keeps are worthless to build up because you have to own all the others around them if you’re in treb distance to make it worth it.
You get four times as much WXP for killing the Veteran Warg or Harpy than killing a Dolyak.
Am I the only one who thinks this is silly?
No, it’s down right dumb and it ruins the game.
Also, the unsung acts in WvWvW should be getting some WXP as well. Escorting Yaks (even if they never get attacked), repairing and building up defenses in keeps, staying in camps as a lookout, etc, etc, etc.
One wonders why they put trash mobs in the dungeon to begin with? Everyone just skips them anyway. Seems to be poor dungeon design to me.
I don’t remember skipping trash ever when I played WOW and I was in the largest Horde guild on the server and ran with many PUG’s as well.

Good post xxx. Saved me the work.
Character bound doesn’t bother me. RNG does though. Buying keys for a shot at something is ridiculous. I buy keys occasionally but that’s only because I know I can use the stuff that’s in the chest no matter what I get. I’m not going to increase my key buy rate just for some dye or a weapon skin, sorry.
Consumables are part of the game. If they want them out of the game then take them out of the game entirely. With this new one there has been a consumable nerf in the last 3 patches. Obviously someone at Arena in QC didn’t test a real maxed out character with their content. Maxed out meaning “Top gear for the build” and " best consumables for the build.
Pretty sad if you ask me. And it still doesn’t fix the problem of folks being very “build” and “class” picky for dungeon groupings. It’s not supposed to matter. This was supposed to be the anti-trinity game and so far it’s failing at it.
Here’s my take on this:
if 5 warriors (or whatever) take these things into a dungeon then it removes or replaces the need for other character classes. Have a portal gun? What do I need a mesmer for? Have a healing seedpod? Don’t need a ranger healing spring or elementalist healing rain. Spy kit? Don’t need a thief then.
So everyone plays the flavor of the day and relies on consumables for utility.
I find this post pretty strange.
The game design is supposed to be around not “needing” a class to complete a dungeon. It appears to have failed as many dungeons require tanks, or healers, or something along those lines.
The game was supposed to allow 5 Engineers to be able to finish fractals. That was what we were sold, so there should be a way to do it.
I run a variant of Nemesis’s Abomination build for WvWvW. Zerg fighting is all about AOE and Tanking. Long survival, condition removal, boons, and large AOE tagging are the order of the day.
I like the Human Tier 1 Cultural Staff and the Ghastly Staff from the AC Vendor. Either of those are very well done, and have nice but understated effects.
Nice. There goes that whole concept of getting one chest per day. Total Nerf to the entire casual community.
I am wondering why you went with the life-steal-route. Protection basically makes your heals 33% better, with 4 runes of earth and 2 runes of water you have up to 25 seconds of protection.
I did this build. The exceptions I made are your rune set up above. I also added another 1% boon duration with a piece of “givers” gear and I have one piece of Cleric’s armor. Otherwise its all strictly PVT.
The one change I made in the trait setup is I could not give up the lesser cooldowns on the staff so I gave up the 5 points in power and “Death Into Life” for the 5 points in Death Mastery so I could have staff mastery. Then I did Spiteful Removal for my selection in the power line giving me more condition removal and allowing me to run with “Well of Blood” instead of consume conditions for more protection triggering.
I also went with the Sigil of Superior Restoration on the staff for more healing.
Have to say I’ve been very pleased with it. Took my first WvWvW spin last night and my survivability was very good while at the same time I was able to tag and help kill many foes. I also am I able to tank and take down an entire supply camp by myself.

There’s PVT (Power, Vitality, Toughness) Gear and I was wondering why there is no HTV (Healing, Toughness, Vitality) gear in the game.
Or am I missing it somehow?
This should be in the product. That’s all there is to it.
What about the same build with shield vs. pistol in the other weapon slot? Seems to me that would be better for WvWvW anyway since you’d mostly spam 1-3 on your weapons and glue shot is a pain in the rear to use.
I found a thread in the bug forum where someone said it’s busted. I guess I’ll go with a 4 Rage and 2 Water combo for now until I see that it’s fixed. Thanks for posting.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_Rage
says at the bottom of this page that there is a bug with the +crit damage with fury.
Bug .
Superior Rune of Rage does not give the extra +5% Critical Damage while under the effect of Fury.
True or false?
couple of hours in wvwvw with my now level 38 necro. racked up 32 badges and a ton of bags/kills. Usually a 3 to 1 ratio so lets say 96 kills.
portal bomb in with the guild. lay down some marks. flip on plague and walk through their zerg. pick up your bags. easymode.
All my names fit the lore somehow. To each his own I guess.
Someday someone will design a system that works for all builds. Someday.
We’re in tier 3 or 4 (I forget) and I took my level 35 necro in last night and just AOE’d marks all over the place and I got 9 badges so I must have had like 20-30+ kills based on the drop ratio I usually get.
Agree 100%. This shutdown our guild in WvWvW in a number of fights on Friday night. The culling is bad enough but this is no fun at all.
Leave it alone. If you want to fix something then get rid of the stupid “scythe” graphic that the staff makes when using the skill. You want scythe’s in the game then put them in the game. The graphic looks dumb.
I think they definitely need wvw ascended items. but i think badges is the worst way to provide them. To do so punishes those who spent them on other things, while rewarding hoarders.
So, you’d rather add another currency to a game that has way to many to begin with?
Sure, makes total sense.
I want new bank space added for currency.
OP, Good for you. You found a main. I have yet to find one. Not really happy with any of the builds I’ve run so far, or any of the professions. Love the game though. Lots of alts.
Final Rest 2.
I hope the sequel is better than the original.
That could work. The problem is I hate giving up the 25% movement speed from the signet. What I’d probably do is run two utility venoms, basilisk venom, and then flip the signet on when I’m running around and hopefully flip to the condition removal when I’m going to fight. One more utility slot would sure be nice.
Venoms is the only way to add conditions onto shortbow skill #1. That’s your bread and butter. Basilisk Venom is OP when used in the right situation. Laying down shortbow #4 into a zerg pile while standing off to the side is OP if your traited to add weakness to poison (lotus poison).
Lacking condition removal.
Think I may go Karma. It’s what I get the most of (WvWvW) with the toon I have the first ascended ammy on and it can feed my Orrian Box habit which nets me some gold in the end.
Does the game crash a lot for anyone else?

More often now than before but my computer has always had a problem zoning in and out of WvWvW to Lions Arch. Not sure why.
No advantage. Move on.
Actually its more nefarious than that. Portal bombing is all the rage. Hide your group of 10 or so and send your mesmer out. Appear out of nowhere and start spamming AOE. Takes total advantage of the fact that no ones graphics card can process that much information that fast.
WvWvW still provides enough fun for me that isn’t “loot” based to make me play.
