You guys yet haven’t understood that Anet is purposely releasing new gear piece-by-piece and with time-based limits because they don’t want people to get it all at once?
It’s how GW2 works.
This month you get the new ring, the next you get the new sword, etc.
If you can’t stand that you can’t just grind the hell out of the game to unhealthy levels to get everything asap and then quit, either consider a change of mentality or change game.I’m glad you brought up the psychological dimension but I’ll part ways with you now. I believe possibly the worst aspect of GW2’s grind is how it affects you psychologically. Let me explain. WoW’s grind was the product of many years experience. It was straightforward. The likely length of the grind was known. And, the path to the gear was laid out for you. All you needed to do was hop on the treadmill and get that thing rolling. There were different levels where people hopped off. Some took it to the heroic raids and absolute top level gear. For me pieces from LFR raids, a few from normal raids, and then valor gear to round it out was fine. There came a point with each tier that I was done and I…RELAXED. That’s it; I relaxed. Then I did dailies, gathered and crafted to keep a set of gear on the AH (TP), helped out family and guildies, did content for fun, and fished.
Consider GW2. When I came to GW2 I immediately relaxed. There was no grind for gear post max level. I was having the MMO time of my life. I could play relaxed all the time. Then 11/15 came and went and we were left to try to figure out Ascended gear. Anet eventually made it clear in the AMA that we were to have vertical progression going forward in GW2. Well, being a somewhat experienced gamer I knew what vertical progression was. It’s the game element that creates a gear grind to give players a sense of progression. We were promised that the power curve would be low—we would have a slow grind. But, what does that mean? It means that the grind is never over. There is a sword hanging over your head every day you play called the daily (the path to the shinies) and you can never relax and just play.
Bottom line, WoW has a humane grind with an endpoint (in each tier) where the player can relax and just play. In GW2, the grind is unrelenting. It never goes away. Looking honestly at the two methods of grinding, I would say Anet’s version is the less psychologically ‘healthful’ of the two.
Being an ex WoW player who went through the original first year process of clearing Molten Core, I agree with you 100%. Things were fine until Nov 15th. Then the bomb went off.
It’s too bad the game had to turn into Grind Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 had promise.
Not enough incentive to be there. Thus, it’s dead. Like much of the rest of the content.
I don’t think what you’re asking for is possible.
Cause it would be overpowered. Wow did the same thing back when I was playing that. For some reason all these games add debuffs and they never work right. A cap proves it isn’t working right.
Of course it is. I’m close to getting it finally.
Sure. Nerf bat is always easier than boosting the gimped classes. Although I’m good at gimping the “I win” classes so makes no matter to me.
I am currently on the hunt for the shortbow version of this bow, Feathers of Dwayna, The Lover’s twin.
Can a Dev please confirm it is a Mystic Forge recipe like the few known Human God weapons(Tear of Grenth and Melandru’s Gaze) or it is another super-duper rare drop like Final Rest?
It would be nice to know one or the other.
They should just use SP’s for Laurels. Buy 10 Laurels with 20 SP’s or whatever the ratio needs to be. Problem solved. Anyone can amass skill points and not have to log in every day.
True, but then you get people who would grind the living heck out of experience. Laurels appear to be a means of controlling how fast those objects being sold are earned more than just another weird currency.
I see. They’re trying to control how fast the players who play 23 hours a day get things. Not possible, they already have everything and are on fractal 7500 with a legendary and full exotic dungeon set with ascended everything and max agony resist.
Run WvWvW. Your server needs you and you amass EXP like crazy. Especially with EXP food buffs.

50 SP is nothing. That’s something even a casual player can accomplish easy just playing the game.
I will say this. Fixing the Ascended Gear availability problem with Dailies and Monthlies has to be the most ridiculous solution I’ve ever seen in a game.
So, right now to get Ascended gear you have two choices. Laurels which practically force you to log in every day to get your daily, and the monthly had the ridiculous 500 salvages. OR, do Fractals which is a high level dungeon.
Meanwhile no one seemed to realize that it added yet another currency to the game. How many currencies are we going to have?? Every time a dungeon is put in is it a new currency?
I’m still waiting for Laurels to be in WvWvW like I was promised. Saying that they are now because you can do dailies and monthlies in WvWvW is pretty “thin” if you ask me.
here is one thing I don’t get:
-) it’s very easy to buy good stuff in the trading post (play tradingpost) – least fun activity
-) it’s easy enough to craft good stuff
-) it’s very difficult to find good stuff in the world – most fun activity
I don’t get it either. Right now the only drops that excite me are badges, and dungeon tokens which are pretty much automatic. I never get an exciting equipment drop.

IF Lindsey Murdock said that Final Rest is dropped from a “LARGE Boss Chest” in this comment: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=https%3A%2F%2Fdviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net%2Fuploads%2Fforum_attachment%2Ffile%2F14636%2FFinal_Rest.png
AND the Jeffery is truthful:
It’s exactly as Linsey stated previously—it’s a loot drop from a specific (rare) boss.
AND the wiki only has three LARGE CHEST listings:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&redirs=1&search=%22large+chest%22&fulltext=Search&ns0=1The which “rare” boss could it be?
Svanir Shaman
Overgrown Grub
Fractals of the Mist – not actually a boss, so does it rule FotM out?
Of those three the only possible one in my mind is the Overgrown Grub. Which would be hilarious if it’s the case cause the Grub is in WvWvW. I don’t think it’s the Shaman cause he’s killed all the time and I don’t think it’s in FoTM cause Final Rest existed in the loot tables the day the game shipped if I understand correctly.
Yes, please. I’d like to rename a couple of my alts.
WvWvW. Always a good time. Have had some epic battles in there that I’ve never experienced in any other game before.
Undeniably it’s created a situation of non-cooperation in PvE which is sad and against the norm. I think the healing thing needs to go.
Drops is my favorite lottery. They were ok before Nov 15th and they’ve been horrible ever since. If I get a decent drop at any point in time it is a mini-celebration for sure.
They also make you complete “mini” jumping puzzles (vistas, some much harder than others) to map complete.
The problem always is it’s hard to be monolithic and get what you want. I’m about building the type of character I want and getting the “look” I want. To get the look I want requires huge time sinks (I don’t do sPVP which actually may be quicker in that regard, I don’t know) and doing things I’d probably rather not do but find I have to.
All that being said it’s all a choice. I don’t have to play. And every thread that has this topic (all 6,923,234 of them) says that.
Hot Pink always works.
Not Casino. Fishing. Nice casual watch TV while I’m doing it fishing. You can hang out on Vent with your guild and shoot the breeze and fish for mats, etc.
Casino idea is fraught with issues.
Fishing. I miss fishing. Should have been in there right away.
There are 20 slot bags as well, just to add to the suggestions. :P
Yes, give the addict more. That’s always a good idea. ;-)
Sell some mats for gold and bank that. Can’t believe you have 0 gold banked cause you obviously play more than I do and I play way too much.
I like the Venom build better. Four Venoms to apply and you can use your #1 weapon skill to apply them. Just hang back behind the crowd, share your venoms, and get healing at the same time. Ultimate support thief and utilizing the range of the shortbow at the same time.
No, it hasn’t changed. It’s as random as any other luck.
Tell me this. Do your odds of winning the lottery go up if you buy more than one ticket? That’s magic find.
Seems pretty silly to me that there is all this “legendary” work to get a legendary item. Tons of farming and gathering of materials, map completion, etc. And still it’s all bunk cause the precursor is 100% bonafide win the lottery luck. Or buy a lot of gems and buy it from the gem store………………
What’s kill credit?
It must not be XP cause if it is then I’m laying waste to vets and champions all over Tyria without any loot.
No, I would not play if there were not loot.
Considering I’ve never done the monthly before because it was impossible for me the way “I play” the game I’m happy about February because I will get it done and it’s just in time for the new Laurels.
NOTE: I never complained about not being able to do them before.
