Why is the Agent of Atrophy the only infinite achievement category? I can’t seem to think of a reason for this. It’s based on salvage. Why not an infinite category in gathering or kills or skill points earned or influence or etc.. etc.. These all seem like worthy places for infinite achievement.
Just curious.
You can tell a person is botting when… as I have done… you see a character shooting a bow at nothing for minutes on end and then when the event he was waiting for starts he targets closest and keeps shooting, targets next closest and keeps shooting… event ends. he’s still shooting… you log off and go to sleep for 8 hours. log back on and he’s still right there shooting at nothing…
I think people get frustrated and spam about botting because it feels like nobody is listening to them. You can report and ‘play the game’ only to see the EXACT same thing exampled above, still happening 3 weeks later. The only difference is that the guy shooting the bow is now wearing the most expensive armor dyed with the most expensive dyes.
That’s frustrating, because it means reporting is useless. And it means that I played hard to earn prestige armor… that isn’t so prestigious after all.
Personally, I don’t see the need to spam chat about it, that’s equally pointless. So I do actually agree with your point… just play the game. Ignore the social side and just play it like a single player game. Or.. get in a good guild with serious players.
Holy cow these threads are frustrating. This thread says that ele’s are overpowered because they can kill siege equipment on the walls. Another thread will say that siege weapons are over powered because they can kill ele’s in the field. Another thread says melee is no good because they can’t survive long enough. Another thread says that ranged lacks punch. Good heavens!
The answer to these and many other “I lost because the game is unfair to me” threads is… learn to be more strategic. If the ele couldn’t use meteor shower there is virtually NO OTHER SKILL in his inventory that can hit a target on the walls. Without his AoE skills he’s out of a siege completely. Think about it. Do you really want to assault a stronghold that can have siege equipment placed that simply cannot be touched at all? Shesh!
Also, part of the fun is collecting things like this. It adds another element to the game to have to search for the item you want, including dyes.
Imp.
Imagine an imp elementalist that actually changes it’s looks when it changes attunement…. ice imp, fire imp, etc…
Azeroth… sorry, I mean Azthioth, I think you’re just stuck. Like a chess player who just hasn’t yet figured out the strategy of Go.
GW2 will definitely feel like chaos to those who are looking for the aggro and threat elements of WoW. If you’re trying to figure out how to get those blasted creatures to focus on the ONE guy up front (a la WoW) then you’re going to find this hectic, until you suddenly see the battlefield tactic rather than the linear one. If you’re patient and can bring yourself to completely abandon the other play style and learn this one, the chaos will disappear and you’ll start to see the brilliant strategies of Tyria.
Totally aggree! Each player, or character, should only be allowed to be in one guild at a time. And thus guilds wont have their roster filled with people who forget to represent or who are representing other guilds.
Yes to this.
GW2 design mantra is “is it fun”.
Well, in most people’s experience…. getting taxed isn’t fun.
Call it something else and you’ll probably have an easier time selling the idea.
personally I’m not a fire walker or a graphetti artist or an underwater dinning enthusiast. Maybe I don’t fit in the Guild Wars universe. I’m certainly not caked in mud watching TV in a dark room.
What on earth is the appeal from this. I’m 40 years old and my peer group is long past the rebellious teenager days. So perhaps that’s it, but this commercial would definitely turn me away from this game. In fact, I hope none of my friends see it. I don’t want to have to explain that GW2 is actually nothing like the commercial at all.
And before anyone disagrees with me. I get it! I know the commercial is saying, “We’ve gone against the system. We’ve done something with our game that is revolutionary and against the system” I get that. But no one outside of the existing GW community is going to get that because this commercial doesn’t say that explicitly and unless you’ve already read about GW2 you wont know it.
Sorry guys, the game is great but this commercial is just plain odd.
I think they should add a barber or hair salon in the cities so that you can use gold to at least change your hair.
I agree as well. The ele elite skills do not have enough elite in them. I would think that an elite skill would be something you WANT to use rather than something that you might consider using, maybe, if you have the time.
Tornado in particular. In order to use it you have to sacrifice all of your damage mitigation skills for the duration of the skill and then rush into close combat if you hope to make use of the tornadoes impact. Thus using it is almost like becoming a Kamikaze pilot and hoping that you don’t miss the ship and simply die in the ocean.
I agree with you Iylas! I wish the minions could be permanent. They don’t live long enough anyway so why not just make their duration permanent, or at least, a lot longer.
The skill is useless as it stands. You can rally a downed player faster than using this skill and the benefits don’t outway the time. Here’s my suggestion on how it should work.
The cast time should be much shorter but the cooldown long. Based on attunement:
Fire – Rally target downed player instantly
Earth – Rally all downed players in short range (600) rather quickly
Water – Revive target defeated player very quickly
Air – Rally/revive target player at normal speed and teleport him to your location (This will be useful even if a downed player becomes defeated in the time it took to cast. This would be a useful skill in sieges.)
These will not be overpowered if the cooldown timer is sufficiently long and movement is not possible while casting.
For those answering… fight smarter, you’re not thinking that through. So some of you make a gold an hour and some of you are careful not to die. Great, good for you, but that’s a very anecdotal answer. For every person who hardly dies there has to be, statistically and logically, someone else who is dying more often, or else there is no combat happening. For every person who makes “A gold an hour” that represents a bunch of people who had to pay out several silver per death. So for all those people who are simply not as capable of survival, the cost of armor repairs is significant. Eventually they will stop playing WvW and all that will be left are the ‘skilled’ players… BUT then they will be fighting each other and a new batch of less skilled players will be established from that pool. Then the guy who makes a gold an hour will suddenly find in a lot harder to make that gold and some other guy who used to make 2 gold an hour will say, “Just play smarter”.
The basic economics are this. You must make at least a couple of silver per kill in order to offset the couple of silver it takes to repair per death. And the answer “die less” is tunnel thinking. Every 1 kill for somebody = 1 death for somebody.
The answer to this problem is not to play smarter. There will always be players who cannot afford the rate of armor repair. The system should be reviewed. Perhaps armor repair can have alternate payment methods… like using medals of honor or having a “repair time” for those that can’t pay, thus using time itself as a resource. This keeps the ‘penalty’ for dying without making it unfeasible for lesser skilled player to venture into WvW. I totally agree with the need for a penalty to dying but it cannot be prohibitive to playing.
I actually hate this event for this reason. It’s completely broken and I’ve observed botting here… to be specific: bow wielding player that constantly shoots, targets closest enemy and shoots. Even when the event isn’t happening the player is sitting there shooting the ground. This event is primed for this sort of abuse of the system. I once got gold for this event just by being there…. I didn’t even do anything, just stood there. I really hate that.
Imagine the following DE for seasons and holidays:
- During Christmas: Help the “jolly old elf” get his slay through Lorner’s pass to bring his gifts to the children of Afgar’s Steading. All the while being harassed by fog elementals, only to be helped in the final pass by a friendly dolyak with a bright red nose named Rudolf Afgar.
- A thanks giving feast at Ascalon Settlement started
- During the Leonids there could be falling stars all over Tyria
- During Halloween it’d be cool to have a ghost ship sail into Lion’s arch, complete with phantoms that play jokes on people across the city
- The Black citadel could have an honor guard during memorial day
- There could be special recipes for holiday foods that are only available at certain times of year.
- A buff can be given in PvE for players that dress in green and red at certain times.
- Guilds can be given a special upgrade that produces fireworks at new years.
- Easter eggs can be hidden all over Tyria, not just drops but like branches and bottles etc. that we currently see.
- On st. Patricks day the whole world could experience a “green eclipse of the sun” where everything is tinted green. Or leprachans can run around turning people’s skin green until they manage to catch him.
- During the Olypics there could be Tyrian games
This kind of stuff is just cool. I hope they do it. I also have noticed a lot of places in the world already set up for events. The moa race track in Lion’s arch for instance. And the planetarium in Divinity’s Reach (What happens if those swirling planets actually line up some day???)
I would also like to see some huge dynamic events that aren’t related to our calender from time to time but that cover large area of the world. Imagine things like a huge migration of raptors or a traveling circus that goes from city to city. Or how cool it would be it the volcano in Mount Maelstrom actually erupted.
Anyway… to me these things are a special type of DE that makes the world even more vibrant and living. Go for it, I say.
In Kessex Hills. This event restarts very very often and the centaurs spawn right beside the bridge. Players are using this to simply sit and kill repeatedly. You can get a gold participation medal just for standing there. I’ve seen ranger players shoot their bow repeatedly, without ceasing, almost botlike shall I say. Even when the event isn’t running. This event is broken, perhaps not in code, but in design.
