Well, with the Necro, going into Death Shroud requires life force…
So then I’m looking at some of the Necromancer traits that say they affect certain Death Shroud skills… and then I wonder… which one is that? What does it normally do, and how is this change different? I don’t know…
Yeah, sure… you can activate Death Shroud and read it in your skill slots… but it uses up Life Force, and you have a limited time to do so before it deactivates.
I kind of see what you are saying about the engineer kits… But then, one could argue that for any of the normal weapons, all you have to do is equip the weapon… and there is no time limit for a weapon to be equipped, like with Death Shroud… so why do you even need all the weapon skills listed?
I Kind of figured that they have all the normal weapons… which you can just equip at any time to see what the skills are, so might as well go all the way and list any alternate skills, regardless of how they are equipped. And with some of them (like Death Shroud) it makes a lot more sense for them to be in the skills tab than it does for even normal weapons.
Hooray for the New Weapon Skills tab in the Hero Panel! Downed State skills are finally somewhere in game you can take your time to read instead of only when you are in downed state!
That’s awesome – thank you.
We’re almost there…
Now could you please include skills from alternate states, such as the Necromancers Death Shroud skills. Or the Engineer’s Device Kit, or Weapon Kit skills…
Basically, anything that changes the skills you are going to use… make it available to read what those are in the new weapon skills tab, because having to read those in the thick of battle doesn’t let us prepare. People like to know what is possible ahead of time, to plan how to use it well.
New player leaving because of HoT. The irony.

playing since beta, and i’m happy
Well, the only thing you could really say is the minority is the LOUD group… since the rest are silent, we really have no idea if they are happy or angry

I’ve never seen such an ungrateful fanbase in my life. They are giving you the base game completely free and you people are still complaining! You guys are incredible…..
reminds me of America Online… oh, sorry, have to get in the wayback machine for this one… remember when Al Gore first invented the internet? And there was this company called America Online that gave you 50 hours of free access to his internet via a dial up conection… (you know.. modems… those things that connected your computer to Al’s internet using a phone line)
Yes, kiddos… we used to get our internet access for FREE! (when you paid your $50 monthly subscription… wait… so… how was that free again? I get these hours free… when I pay… hum… I don’t get it…)
bottom line… marketing is kittening stupid sometimes, but the people that fall for stupid marketing are even more stupid

Haha.. here is an edit for your analogy…
both payed for BOB + expansion… but person 2 can just start using BOB with their expansion… person 1 gets home and finds that the screws that hold the expansion to their BOB are not included. They have to buy those separate.
Anet just has to screw us… oh wait.. they already did
It’s not bread you ate, but a lifetime bread subscription that you got and paid for three years ago.
Except now, the same company that brought you bread now has BreadPlus, which is way tastier and more nutritious than regular bread – with free peanut butter and jelly. Regular bread will no longer be sold to new bread eaters (although your current lifetime subscription will still be good and the recipe will be tweaked a bit).
Now, your friend (who never liked bread, but is interested in BreadPlus) is willing to buy a lifetime subscription to BreadPlus. You are considering upgrading to eating BreadPlus, but then you find out that the upgrade cost is exactly the same as your friend’s subscription cost. Even though you already paid the full subscription cost for your lifetime supply of bread three years ago.
This means that if you upgrade, the “lifetime supply of bread” you paid for only gave you three years of bread, and no discount on BreadPlus.
You sure you ain’t related to an Asura? You sure sound like one.
This cracked me up.
Posts like these almost make it worth it that Anet pulled a complete bonehead move…
Sit back, and watch the fray…
You know, sometimes I think Anet decides to do the stupidest thing possible, just to see if they can get away with it.
“Hey, I know… how about we not offer an expansion only version and see if we can get our current players to swallow it.”
But yeah… I’ll be here waiting… popcorn in hand, watching the mayhem until you pull your collective heads out of your @5535 and give us a reasonable price.
And, really… not even a kitten character slot?
really?

Carapace armour leggings.
Sylvari/Norn/Human females.Dear ANet. Please consider upping the quality of the female Carapace leggings textures. We can’t even see how the colours are supposed to blend on the upper part of the butterfly pattern.
Thanks.
Another screenshot to show that the overall texture quality of the female Carapace Leggings is very poor.
This is the Female Heavy Carapace Leggings on a Sylvari:
Ah, I didn’t know there was an art problem thread… I have a screen cap of it, I’ll go do that, thanks
Anyone else notice the detail on the heavy Carapace Leggings look terrible?
it’s like it’s a much lower resolution texture or something.
After messing with the Beta Camera controls, the one thing that stuck out the most is the lack of camera height adjustment when scrolled in. When scrolled OUT, when you adjust the slider, it has a lot of movement. I’m assuming this is on purpose… it’s an exponential increase the further the camera is zoomed out… but I would say it could use a whole lot more movement on the vertical axis when zoomed all the way in.
As it is, I can move the slider from one end to the other and the camera looks like it moves from mid head, to the shoulder.
Last year, this kicked my butt over and over and over… it was like a week of trying on and off before I made it.

Cannot update game, horrible download speed

Had same problem until I went back and took out the line from the Reddit hosts fix for patch from the last update:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2mq1pe/cannot_patch_client_stuck_at_launcher/
This worked for me. I was having this problem last major patch, and did the fix suggested on reddit (which never fixed the slow download speed, it only got me past the connection error). However, removing that line fixed the issue for this week’s patch and I am able to download at full speed.
Same here… the fix worked previously.. and removing the fix, corrected Anets breaking of the fix… or something like that. heh
Good point on the TP prices being set by the players. And that the gems, if buying with in game gold, are worth a whole lot more now.
So… how come inflation isn’t accounted for in the Achievement Chests?
The “living economy” continues to rise in prices, but the gold you get from an Achievement Chest stays static. So… maybe that 15 gold you get out of the 5,000 AP Massive chest once was a great reward, but now it’s kind of chump change.
Would be nice if the reward could keep pace with inflation

this fix worked for me! i’m in game now.
This got mine working… thank you.
I made it to about page 7 or 8 of this thread… took a while, and now I don’t have time to play.
But what is worse… now I don’t really WANT to play.
I was seriously thinking about buying an additional character slot recently.. but being the cynic I am, I try to never pay full price for anything, because, only people who have so much money they can throw it at anything and everything they want without batting an eye, and complete idiots (or people with no self control whatsoever… pretty much the same thing in my book), actually pay full price for anything. So I figured I’d wait for the right market conditions to convert gold to gems, and shoot for a previous on-sale amount of gems that a character slot would cost.
But now…
Well, now it isn’t just the easily apparent issue of “the sale price of an on-sale character slot doesn’t match any of the preset gem purchase amounts”… it’s the whole “fleecing your customers” mindset that this seems to stem from.
Not sure if anyone previous, has brought up the connection with the trading post, and how they “fixed it to be less confusing” by not letting you see what actually goes in your pocket from a sale, and instead showing the fees off to the side, making you do the math to end up with your actual profit… because we all LOVE to do math, instead of these computer thingys that can do it a million times faster and more accurately.
Oh, but it’s not about what the customer wants, is it? It’s about what we can get out of them.
Everywhere you look, companies providing a product or service employ more and more methods of just plain lying to their customers, in an effort to get as much out of them as possible before they are distracted by the next “thing” to come along.
Being the jaded person I am, I honestly think many of them really don’t care about their customers beyond what they can get out of them… but what makes me sad is that I’m pretty sure there are some that just “buy into” the “marketing research” that seems to pervade our world, that says you WILL fail if you don’t employ the very same methods.
“Everyone else is doing it, so you need to also, otherwise those drooling simpletons out there will just get hooked by someone else’s flashy, shiny, zero substance, bait and switch, bullkitten, and completely forget about you”
I don’t know if Anet is one of the “evil to the core, we care only about the money and will stop at nothing to milk every last penny out of our customers” type companies, or if they are just one of the “but everyone else is doing it this way, and we are just going to die a slow, agonizing death if we don’t follow suit” kind of companies…
And frankly, at this moment, I don’t really care.
I think Sickdreamz.8401 summed it up nicely earlier in this thread:
“When are these kids gonna ever learn, you want a successful business that will never die? Concentrate on quality and they will stay and play”
It’s apparent that Anet is concentrating on ways to part a fool with his money, instead of offering a quality product.
So I’ll possibly play a bit longer, until I finish my in game bucket-list… But you have lost any chance of ever getting any more of my money Anet.
And I hope your death as a company isn’t as slow and agonizing as you feared, though I suspect it very well may be…
However, on the flip side, if these methods sustain, or even bolster your company… I fear the stain on your soul may never wash out, so… kind of a lose-lose.
My condolences.
Yeah… I’ll be honest… I had little use for the gem store… don’t need anything from it.
Except maybe another character slot, because there are more classes I’d like to….
Wait… what? You mean Anet turned it into an actual chore to level a character now?
huh…. well, I guess I WILL get around to playing some more of those games in my Steam library.
Can we have the ability to re-size the TP window? Can do that with our inventory… why can’t we do it in the TP. Seems like it might help with the limited view.
I could see there being a good reason for wanting to see the buyer price… that way you know what amount you need to list it for if you want to undercut the next guy by just one copper…
But why does Anet think that means we don’t want to know what our net profit is?
Show me what I ACTUALLY GET FROM THE SALE.
(or put a Kitten calculator app in the new TP UI – that is a joke… please just give us the net profit display)
I really can’t fathom the reason they don’t just show all three.
Ultimately, net profit is all that REALLY matters… to pretty much everyone selling something. What do I take home after all the fees…
Please, someone prove me wrong! I’d like to know in what universe you DON’T want to know what you take home from the sale.
"Net profit, also referred to as the bottom line, net income, or net earnings is a measure of the profitability of a venture after accounting for all costs. In a survey of nearly 200 senior marketing managers, 91% responded that they found the "net profit" metric very useful. (1) In accounting, net profit is equal to the gross profit minus overheads minus interest payable for a given time period (usually: accounting period)"
"In simplistic terms, net profit is the money left over after paying all the expenses of an endeavor."
- taken from Wikipedia
So... Anet obviously didn’t talk to any of those 200 senior marketing managers when they decided to remove the net profit amount from the TP when selling an item.
Yay... we now get to see all the hidden fees... yes, that is a plus... but it really is poor design to show the profit BEFORE fees, and make the seller calculate the net profit themselves.
I know others have pointed it out before, but I was hoping there was just some information missing, and wanted to see it in action when the patch hit...
Sadly, they really did go with the bad decision to remove net profit.
Please give us the net profit and don’t make us have to calculate it ourselves.
+1
oh please oh please oh please….
I came close to getting hardcore into this game… but, the RNG pretty much killed that idea for me… for pretty much the reasons that have been pointed out in this thread.
I have done big world bosses and got nothing but junk… but pulled some nice exotic items out of a chest at the end of a jumping puzzle. (not even a difficult one)
So…. why put the effort into the big events when I have just as much chance to get something good anywhere else in the game?
So now I just try to explore, and enjoy the time I can play with friends.
TL:DR: Anet turned me into a casual
(death to the RNG)
Yeah, if I started playing now and learned that you used to get them as drops, but now have to pay gems, gold or mats… I’d probably be pretty miffed about it. [as it is I’m still sad, but I have a pretty good range already… so I’ll just live with it]
I got both Celestial and Hot Pink from an unidentified dye drop… two of my favorites in game. I imagine they both cost a pretty penny on the TP
(edited by ShadowKatt.6804)
Well, 5 laurels for what will most likely be a common dye that I already have / don’t want / can’t sell for much of anything… don’t think I’ll be buying them there.
And the chef recipes to craft a rare unidentified dye… that only has a 10% chance to actually BE a rare dye seems kind of ridiculous too.
Removed completely from the drop tables? Meh… Well then, I guess I didn’t get those 2 as a drop… You may be right about the BL chest Vargamonth, I hardly ever get keys, so I don’t open them often, but that would seem the likely place now.
Is dye a possible reward for a story instance? Maybe I got them there?
OK, so I get it that since dyes are now account wide, reducing the drop rate to compensate makes sense… but how many unidentified dyes have you received since the April patch?
I think I’ve got 2 since the patch.
In the 4 months I played before the patch, I think I got more than 20.
That is quite the disparity. Was I just THAT lucky before the patch? Anyone else wonder where all the dye went?
Yeah, I never bothered with the forums until I got kittened over when the Attack on Lions Arch ended and the vendors for all those Found Heirlooms and Belongings just up and disappeared… I was like, WTF? and people in game pointed me to the forum where Anet “warned” us about it.
So yeah… I would have gone on, blissfully unaware that there was important info only given to us through the forums if I hadn’t become unhappy… and I assume most players are like that. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the ones that jump straight into the forums when they start playing, probably got kittened over in a previous game, so now they just always check the forums for any game they play.
But other than that Found Heirloom incident, I’m pretty happy
(though I wonder if someone at Anet is watching to see what I delete from my inventory so they can then put more use for it in the game, lol… but I’m probably just paranoid)
Here is my suggestion… Show the “Downed State” skills in your HERO PANEL SKILLS and TRAITS tab.
For that matter, put those alternate states in there as well… like the Necromancers Death Shroud ability.. I will be honest… I have a level 80 necromancer (not my main) that I just never use the Death Shroud ability, because I have no idea what the attacks do when I’m in that state…. BECAUSE I would have to go read a wiki, or.. go into DS and [gasp] read…
Put them all in the skills and traits tab so people can access, and read up on them IN GAME, whenever they want.
Delaying the “downed state” until level 5 just sounds ridiculous to me… so instead of them getting the understanding that this is how the game works right from the start… you are going to ambush them with it at level 5? How is that helpful? Just teach them from the start how it works… and give us a way to read what those skills are right there in game.
Ok… I don’t know why, but when I switched back to the character who originally tried to withdraw the pack and it disappeared, it is now in my inventory, and the guild stash slot is useable again.. (the slot was still un-useable for the character who deposited the pack, when I tried moving things around in the stash moments before)
So, just to be clear… this was after doing the -repair, I had logged in with the depositing character and the slot was still un-useable, but then logging in with the character that removed it, it was now in my inventory and the stash slot is useable again
I deposited a 15 slot invisible leather pack into the 50 slot guild stash, and when I tried to retrieve it with another character, it disappeared when I dragged it from the stash to my inventory. the 15 slot rugged leather pack I transferred at the same time, made it fine.
And now that slot that the invis pack was in is un-useable. I can’t put anything in it, either from my pack, or even trying to move something already in the stash into that slot…. it will not allow anything to be put there.
I tried logging off and back, and even did the -repair shortcut and it verified the game files… still can’t use that slot.
I made an in-game bug report, but thought I would post here also to see if anyone else encounters this problem. And see if I could get any kind of response here.. the in game bug report says they won’t reply to the reports… which raises the question, what recourse do we have when the game deletes something? Are we just totally SOL?
I’m just glad I didn’t finally give in and make a 20 slot bag, costing 10 kitten gold.. wow, if the stash ate THAT I would super kittened off.
I can definitely say that when you get in a good map, with people who want to coordinate, it is a fun event..
But using the LFG to get into a gold BB party, and once you get a party… right clicking on the one party member who is in there, and choosing “Join in the Pavilion” for 45 MINUTES STRAIGHT until there is an opening in said map… well, that’s about as far away from fun as you can get.
And funny enough, the Pavilion map I was waiting in while trying to get in… only got the bronze ONCE the whole time I was trying.
Seems to me there needs to be a different way to join people who are of like mind in the same map, so we don’t wear out our middle finger right clicking to get in. (I can think of much better things to do with my middle finger) I don’t know what the answer should be… make events like this a raid instance, or add a que to get into a map (we had that with getting OUT of overflow maps before the megaserver, why not for getting INTO a map now?)
And more and better information all around… in what needs to be done, and displaying important information like the health of each boss no matter where you are… yeah, the game lacks the organization and communication tools that would make this 100 times better.
Do we absolutely need it..? no.. obviously people who actually give a rip will find a way to do it… but it sure is an uphill battle
Thanks for all the tips. I’m slowly spreading out to try more of the bosses, and this really helps.
Thanks, I’ll check it out
I think you should try to look for LFGs that ferry people in, than starting your own LFG that wants a ferry. Some maps clearly isn’t as organized as others. And if you aren’t getting a Silver or Gold first, that’s the cue to leave for another one.
Most of the bosses require similar skills you have to bring:
Kuraii – Bring stability/break stun moves. Try to be behind him to avoid AoE arrows.
Pyroxis – Usually have a group with Reflect Projectiles that ranges him safely on some hill. Good with Guardians and Mesmers.
Sparcus – Another boss that needs Reflect Projectiles and Stability (if you’re meleeing). There’s a platform that’s safe and never get targeted by Sparcus’s teleports.
Shruakk – Has tons of birds around him that does heavy retaliation damage. Use single target weapons only and throw Bird Feed AWAY from the boss.
Wiggins – Again needs reflect projectile moves for his normal pistol attacks and break stun if it does hit you. Usually the group lures him to a ramp and ranges him safely. You also need to make sure to run after him every 25% as he goes back to the middle.
Boomboom Baines – The only focus here is to call out and destroy Healing Turret ASAP. This is the only group that should only have DPS classes/lv80s to maintain with everyone else. Make sure to kill ads at the beginning of the fight and dodge the Big Bomb AoE she throws occasionally.
Thank you for the info.
Now I guess I better copy this to my computer before a moderator deletes it.
There was a thread in the Festival of the Four winds forum about Boss scaling. There was a lot of helpful info in that thread. And a developer had posted a reply, which was very helpful too. I don’t know if someone posted un-allowed info sometime after this, but a moderator deleted the entire thread.
The only reason I know it was trashed is because I had a short post in there at some point, I got a private message that said a post I made has been moved to a different forum… turns out it was the forum “Trashcan” with the following reason: “The posting of unreleased game data is not permitted on these forums. As such, this thread has been removed from public view.”
…really? You couldn’t just delete the offending post or posts in that thread? You had to delete the whole thing?
Is there a forum somewhere else where GW2 players can post info without it being deleted?
So… has it always been that Boom Boom passes on her explosive keg then? I thought I remember the turret getting passed on… or possibly that was just something I overheard. You know, that would be everyone’s worse fear, that the turret gets passed on, so maybe they were just saying that.
They make a great lining for your kitty litter box!
Ok… on my first, second and third try on the Boss Blitz, it was sheer torture. I won’t go into details, we have all read plenty of that already.
But then I read the Love the Boss Blitz thread, and thought I would take their advice and try LFG.
Sure enough, it didn’t take long at all to get taxied in to a map where people were (mostly) trying to organize. Unfortunately… we still ended up with three bronze in a row. (and then I had to sleep)
I will admit that it certainly got closer than I have ever been before. But there were still a lot of people who had no idea how their respective boss fight functioned. And there too I will admit that I personally don’t know how they all function, so I stay away from the ones I know nothing about… but, you know… there were people who had no idea at all about any of them, and just wanted to know where they should go… cool that they were willing to go where assigned… but they just ended up getting their kitten handed to them.
So even when people are willing to organize, there is still the learning curve for each boss, and I don’t know if there were experienced players prepping them beforehand or not… if there was, it wasn’t in map chat.
And then one boss even had a completely different mechanic than what I had learned previously… Boom Boom apparently doesn’t spawn the healing turret unless there are __? People on her. We had 6-8 last night, and we thought it was bugged out or something… but reading in the forums afterwards, I saw someone post that if there are 9 or less people on Boom Boom, the turret won’t come out. Now tell me honestly, how many of you reading this right now knew about this?
And do the other Bosses also have a different mechanic at different levels of attackers?
And why is there not a Boss Blitz tactics thread, explaining the mechanics of each? (or have I just missed it?)
So Boom Boom passed on her explosive keg last night, when she was downed… but I thought I remembered it passing on the healing turret before. So then, the special ability that gets passed on is also dependent on how many people are on each boss?
I really want to see this actually work, but at this point it honestly feels like Anet could have simplified the whole Boss Blitz by just putting slot machines in the Pavilion and it would have had more or less the same outcome… most would pump their money into it and get very little return, while a few lucky people would get decent rewards, and fewer still would hit the jackpot.
But there would be a LOT less frustration involved… and it would only take a few seconds, instead of an hour (give or take) to find out if you won or lost.
That’s really how I see this event. It’s a complete gamble on whether or not you get in with a good group… with the odds, of course, in the houses favor.
I get it now… I was putting Taxi Gold Boss Blitz… when I should have been simply looking for it. Basically I was advertizing as if I was trying to pull people in… and that is why people were joining and leaving.
However, there also seemed to be a bug or something, because if I start the party and someone joins, then leaves… it should not have disbanded my party when they left. (or so I was told in game)
So there was some other issues going on there as well.
They don’t even SAY anything… they just join… I start to type something and they leave.
Ok… so how exactly is the LFG Taxi Gold Boss Blitz supposed to work?
I just tried it three times in a row… each time someone joined my party, then immediately left which deleted my party…
I don’t get it.
what am I supposed to be doing?
Well, seeing that this is now going to be around until July 1st… and after reading this thread, I think I’ll give it another try using the lfg taxi gold boss blitz method.
And I think Hydroclasm pretty much nailed it… there are definitely (at least) two different play styles working against each other here… and in much the same way that Anet tried to clobber the players over the head with teach the players to “stop zerging”, I hope Anet will learn something from this event too… that putting content requiring this kind of organization in the open world just seems to frustrate EVERYone.
For those who want to do it right… it’s like slamming your head against a brick wall trying to teach/convince the casuals to do it right also. And the casuals would like to just mindlessly sleepwalk through their own living hell play without having to pay that much attention (even if it does take forever), and not have a bunch of people yelling at them the whole time.
And of course, a third group would just be the people who have chat disabled and truly ARE just sleepwalking through this… I wonder what goes through their head after working on BoomBoom for an hour straight.
But yeah, I’d be all for this in a raid… not in an open world “festival”
[goes away muttering under breath] …festival of the four winds… feh.. more like festival of the middle finger…

This is one of the more well thought out assessments of the Boss Blitz that I have read so far… Kudos!
And just to add my two cents…
It’s becoming painfully apparent to me that the average GW2 player doesn’t seem to put any effort into learning the events, and/or ever seem to try to get organized.
I myself will readily admit that when I started playing, I had no idea that the forums contained vital information that would be useful to an event, or boss… I just happened to get so fed up with how stupidly the Scarlet fight seemed to work, that I did some Google searches… and lo and behold, I found the GW2 Forums… where there is a torrent of frustrated posters.
So many posts on this forum about how most players mindlessly jump in and auto attack with everyone else… no coordination, no strategy, no paying attention to see which skills work well, and which are counter-productive… just zerg up and then complain how crap the reward is because there is no way to get it done in the time limit, or whatever…
well, what do you expect? apparently that’s how Anet taught them to play.
And even IF Anet is making some changes now in hopes to get them to learn a new way… they sure aren’t going about it very smart.
I mean, there is not even a gentle prodding, to try to point you to the forums where you could learn how the event should work best… No in-game tools to facilitate coordination, not enough information displayed to know what’s going on… and yeah… the megaserver and native languages… ugh..
Some people never learn unless you bash them upside the head with the right way to do it… but forget bashing… no one is even handing them a flyer.

Just thought I’d add my 2 cents as one of those new players who doesn’t really know how things work around here.
I’m certainly not going to demand anything… they made the game, they run the game, they can do what they like… but I had no reason to think the heirloom and found belonging vendors would just up and vanish right when the event ended. No prior history to base that off of. Same goes for checking the forums for important info… why would I be expected to just know I had to check the forums?
And I definitely don’t understand why there are so many people who seem so upset at the prospect of putting the vendors back in… even for a short period… what, you people got burned by ANET pulling some previous vendor out, so now you just want to share the love?
…really?
