You cant disable some stuff on home edition, and something in the pro version too, isnt about knowledge on OS…

Btw gw2 have the best graphic u can find in any mmo even with dx11, the real improvement with an highter dx or vulkan is the optimization on draw call but ofc u also need an 64bit client…

Btw i dont think they will upgrade this on gw2, and onestly i dont care too much because i think is more important if/when they will make a new engine they will not do that on dx12, because win 10 is the worst os made by microsoft, no privacy, no a complete control on your pc, i dont like it, and with vulkan intead of dx the game should be compatible also with linux.

Seriously, the amount of saltiness and misinformation in you is beyond the normal.

Home edition is for people that don’t know advanced things about computers and SO. Some things are locked because without the knowledge of it people end up not upgrading their SO, have problems with connecting to internet, don’t have a proper and updated antivirus… Also it doesn’t bring some features that could cause problems, like dual boot, remote desktop, bitlocker…
Someone pro should not be looking for the Home edition.

What are the things locked in the pro version? I’ve seen a few posts about some assumptions in 8chan forums made by anonymous and they are all full of misinformation, lack of understanding and self-made theories.

About draw calls, you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Gw2 is not even able to max the limit of draw calls of DX9.

They won’t uy would put the most used API, and if that’s dx12, then it would have it.pgrade their game engine, but if they do, the

Vulkan is yet to be seen how good it is. What we only know is one of its devs said Vulkan “might” be better than dx12.

And W10 is the best SO made by MS ever, and possibly the best ever made. But here we have some fanboy anti MS thinking W10 is bad due to imaginary lack of privacy (while all his life might be in Google’s or Apple’s servers) and the lack of control (when he doesn’t even know what you can and cannot do).

lol your post is awesome

i’m not anti MS really, i really love win8.1, and i have tryed myself win 10 so i know what i’m talking about
you say the home edition is for ppl doesent know what to do, ok, so let set up by default the update, but give the option to disable it, if they r noob they even doesent lf this option for disable it, dont u think?

“Someone pro should not be looking for the Home edition”
did u saw how expensive is the pro version? in eu is 280 euro, twice of home, and i should spend double just for be able to disable stuff? thats a joke!! also beacuse in the older version of Windows you doesent have this problem…

anyway as i told i dont care about MS and his OS, everyone is FREE to choose what he want, i’m not a funboy of anti MS, i a funboy to the OPTIONS, and to me chose something different like vulkan sounds to have the options to play my game in other OS and with older OS, with dx12 u are forced to change OS, even if u dont like it

ps: u need the enerprise edition for lf the update and chose to posticipate the instal, on win 8.1 u can lf the update and chose what u wanna instal etc etc in 10 PRO he will instal the update w/o confirmation…. and this is sound really bad to me, there is also other stuff u can do in win xp/7/8 and i cant do in win 10 home/pro i dont remember everything but i’m sure on that

Man, and I thought my users were ill-informed.

You take the cake.

- Dungeon Runners (not all) are the worst. I love running dungeons in MMOs. I find them fun and exciting and rewarding. But here, Elitism rules the dungeons: You must be full zerker! You must be level 80! You must have run this path 1000 times before! You must skip everything and speedrun! And the worst one, You must have 8000+ AP! < lol what the heck does AP have to do with anything?

- This kind of thing is far too common in this game and completely kills my joy for Dungeons. Rather than feed the Leets, I just avoid Dungeons as much as I can.

Or you could break the chain and create your own group?

Change shield 4 into “path of light”

It would be a leap forward. You gain protection and leave behind a lingering trail that grants allies protection and blind enemies. Makes it simultaneously harder to use but also more useful.

I did not find any evidence on video about trinity on gw2, care to enlighten me?

It’s around the 5 minute mark where he talks about their intentions.

I listen it again from 4.30 to ~7min , and didn’t find any clue or definition of trinity, i did noticed Coling talking about making defensive traits/skill more effective w/o killing the focus into DPS (wich is actually what Tank means to Anet).

Which actually playing on support/defense is impossible outside spvp, he is talking a more seamless combat experience at least for Ravenant and i hope mace/shield guardian gets fixed for wvw to.

U had semi-working roles in the last trait system.

Around the 6:30 mark. He says (roughly) “we never didn’t want to have the tank, the healer, the tank….that’s a common misconception…”

Afraid that need o put some effort into kill some one?

Like i said, Tank Anet definition is not what ur thinking, u had sturdy but not invincible guardians at front line, they were just there controlling the bad players(has a unorganized group) mostly, they could be easilly downed with a spike call.

I’m sorry, but you’ve completely lost me. Seems you’re looking for an argument that isn’t there. You asked where Colin talks about the trinity and all I did was show you where he brings it up, that’s all.

he is not talking about trinity has you know, hard to understand?

I welcome more roles, like supports or even healers.

All I don’t want to see is any content that require a fully geared Tank, and a fully geared Healer kind of combat. If there are combat that require more healing, so be it, I hope at least make it so content can be completed by hybrid players.

Except for a very small percentage, I think that’s pretty much what everybody is looking for.

The trinity is something from traditional rpg-action games. GW 2 is different. Everything is in balance on the open world. It does not matter what profession / race, everything is properly capped or boosted. Only at team actions something reminding of the trinity takes place: there you may have different roles for professions though not as strictly as in traditional rpg games. Anyway, it’s not really something to bother about.

You think everything is in balance in the open world?

As in players combat vs environment: yes. Does not matter what profession / race you are, no peaks. As for team actions, well we just saw how long it took to get Tequatl back to the old event before the skill patches. Not talking about those events…

So you’re saying you’re ok with these world boss zergfests. Just trying to clarify.

With all the over-use of CCs in some places, over-use of insta-gibs in others, there is just no incentive to run a tank or a healer. You have nothing to gain and a lot to lose.

GW2 will never, without very significant changes, support Trinity play, nor should it.

Tens of thousands of players, like myself, would run to the hills if strong Trinity was implemented.

I don’t think that anyone is arguing for a strong trinity. I would love a weak trinity where supportive play (damage mitigation, buffs, debuffs, control, etc) is actually a rewarding experience, instead of just a weight on your group’s speed run.

Silverwastes is actually a pretty good example of this in the live game. I love playing it on my zerker longbow ranger, but I also enjoy keeping people at high(ish) health and condi-free on my support shout warrior and pumping out heal/bringing people up on my Bloodmagic Necromancer… and it actually is helpful to the group and is somewhat necessary.

This is exactly correct. Unfortunately it’s completely lost on the rabid anti-trinity crowd. Apparently people like just zerging. Which I will never understand.

Still doesnt make any sense, if we say that we need a healer/tank/dps, some of the classes will be locked into that category simply because they do deal more healing/damage or are tanky. Unless if that was the reasoning of the specializations? Some players see it as being more cool stuff, I always saw it as a way to implement stuff to some professions that currently needed it.

But even then, there will always be that 1 profession which simply are a lot better to do 1 thing, which would ultimately lock them.

You’ll see those groups that perfect setup, but you’ll also see groups that take whatever because we can fill all rolls.

That’s not much different then what we have now with pugs.

What will be annoying tho is if we have to fill up are inventory with gear. Cause yeah I can spec into healing, but it won’t do much good if none of my gear has any healing stats.

Good point.

Until the game gets dedicated healers and tanks, and actually makes playing them worth while, that comment from the POI has no meaning.

Not true at all.

Ok so playing as a healer or tank is viable then?

Not going to discuss this with you until you watch the video, which you obviously haven’t.

I did watch it. They say they blended everything together so you are not locked into a role, and are free to swap roles as you choose.

What ‘roles’? There is only one role: DPS.
The only other roles are Support and Control, which aren’t really indepedent roles. It’s just something a DPS does on the side. A guardian can focus almost completely on damage, and still pump out dozens of boons to everyone around them. Several classes can focus almost completely on damage while still having access to great crowd control.

That’s what I’m getting at. I totally get anet not wanting us locked into dedicated roles, but that doesn’t mean multiple roles shouldn’t exist. Which they don’t atm.

You may have watched the video, but you sure didn’t hear what they were saying.

Start at the 5 minute mark and listen carefully.

Yeah I’m going to stop here.
If you just keep dismissing everything I say and keep claiming I just didn’t watch the video or actually listen to it, this isn’t going anywhere.

I’m not dismissing anything you’re saying. I’m trying to get you to understand what I’m trying to say.

You’re talking past me.

I’m not looking for a holy trinity. I’m looking for better defined roles which he said they are working on doing beginning at the 5 minute mark.

You continually insist on talking about the game as it stands now. That’s not at all what I’m talking about.

I think we’re on the same side, here.

Shootsfoot.9276

They don’t need to introduce the trinity as historically defined. What they need to do is make mob mechanics mesh better with profession abilities and make those running support roles actually feel like they are supporting, and those running tanking/frontline roles actually feel like they are running the front line and protecting the support. Not just DPSing their brains out with an occasional AoE heal tossed here and there haphazardly.

Then listening to what Colin said, I think that’s what they are trying to do. Doesn’t change the point that any of the professions can do any one of the three roles. Just need better definition without pigeonholing.

It’s a thin line.

per Arenanet:

“Orr has no renown hearts, the quest-like activities that have been known to litter the lower-level areas, “because there are generally very few friendly NPCs in Orr.” Instead, players’ focus in Orr will be on huge events. There are roughly twice as many dynamic events in the Orrian areas as in other explorable zones; many of these are tied together as nets, rather than simple chains. Events tend to have farther-reaching effects than we’ve seen so far in lower-level areas, putting emphasis more on holistic zone control and cooperation than in the early game. Johanson suggested that players will need to recapture the fallen temples of the old gods and then keep control of those while also pushing deeper into the zone and fighting baddies at the frontlines.”

http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/07/12/arenanet-devs-talk-legendary-weapons-endgame-and-more/

Zerging mobs with zero strategy or any need to pay attention to mechanics isn’t “raiding.”

Thanks for the replies. So if it’s just a dungeon with more people, what exactly about raids makes them so popular?

If it’s a difficulty thing, I’ll have to cite my FFXI experience that a six-man dungeon/boss fight can be incredibly challenging, and I see no reason why a five-man can’t be equally difficult. And do keep in mind that content in video games these days tends to be easier so that more can enjoy it.

If it’s something else that makes them appealing, please fill me in.

If you’d like to see an example of raids, try going to tankspot.com and watch some of their raiding videos located on the “Movies” tab.

Personally I loved raiding with my WoW guild, but that was because we weren’t all that concerned about progression and were more concerned with just having fun and ribbing each other when we “stood in the fire” and died.

I tried a couple “heroic” raids with another guild and…yeah…no thanks….

They cannot even balance the skills we already have. It would just boil down to one set of skills everybody uses because they’re the most powerful ones. They’d better work on fixing the ones that already exist, considering many of them aren’t working properly since release.

If that’s the case, why isn’t everybody using the same traits?

The “everybody will use the most powerful skill” argument is a worn out one. It’s just not the case. Traits show that.

And this argument for “balance” just makes me shake my head. People whine about nerfs, they whine about buffs, they whine about everything.

If we truly want balance, have one class and 10 spells.

One of the things that drove me away from WOW and SWTOR was the ridiculous number of abilities.

How are options a negative point in a game? I never played either one of those, but in GW1, a massive chunk of the fun was the number and synergy of all the skills in the game. Better yet, your entire bar was customizable, so you weren’t stuck with unchangeable attack skills and a paltry number of utility and elite skills.

In SWTOR and WoW, having so many options does nothing. It still ends up being the same 7-8 buttons you normally press 90% of the time. There is no “depth” added by having inferior abilities or abilities so situational you only use them every 3rd time you log in. Played WoW from release until Cata and a lot of buttons on a lot of classes were useless.

Same for Rift, played it from release and most of the time you end up using 7-8 buttons or a few macros with 8 different abilities in them, actually lowering the number of things you do.

They hit a good medium with skills on GW2, I don’t feel like I’m going to get carpal tunnel every fight in a dungeon trying to squeeze 100 more dps out of a rotation.

My only comment I would say is at least with those 8 buttons in WoW, you felt as if you were actively casting. Sure you had a rotation, but you also had to manage keeping buffs up, such as inquisition, while working with that rotation. It just seemed move involved, and I liked that. In GW2, it’s more all action on the autoattack #1 button and then just waiting for ridiculously-long cooldowns in the meantime. Sure, you can swap weapons, which essentially just swaps auto-attack, but once the other buttons are pushed, you are still waiting on cooldowns, be they the action buttons, or the 8(?) second weapon swap action button.

I think cooldowns are a bit long in this game, is what I’m trying to say, I guess.

In the past (WoW) most of my dueling occured when 4/5 of my party members were at the instance waiting for the last member. It would be nice to be able to pass downtime by dueling, instead of having to port into a completely different part of the game.

Yeah, I agree. It was a nice timekiller.

DPS and Meters

in Suggestions

Posted by: Shootsfoot.9276

Shootsfoot.9276

DPS meters should be banned from every game. They never look at the big picture.

Let’s give a clear example. In TA on the first boss. My main job towards the end is dodging dodging and dodging, because every single wurm will 99% of the time target me and exclusively me with their spit attack. So for the good of the group I stay away and do almost no dps. Bring in a DPS meter into this and I would be kicked for severely under performing. Even though my actions mean we kill the bloody thing.

So then it’s safe to say you essentially “tanked” the fight.

Now, let me ask you this…when were you ever in a group where it was expected the tank had the highest dps?

If this idea that something should never be introduced because of the possibility of abuse were adhered to, there’s be pretty much nothing ever introduced.

It would be helpful to see if you had decent dps in the fight, or if the trait change you made helped or hurt you.

It would be helpful to see if your support setup really IS doing decent support, or are you just wasting a spot tossing out meaningless heals and buffs?
