3 and 4 as well as bound, apply pressure with autoattacks until you need to get back out with an evade. You can get back into close range with a 2 combined with steal which bursts for quite a bit as well as applies weakness. But yes, 3 and 4 are going to be your main tools as well as bound and autos of course.
The idea is to punish with your 3’s and, seldom, vault. Use 4 for covering yourself while you get back into close range to pressure, or use 2 like I described above. Wear the opponent down over time while watching for your opponent’s skills and punishing with 3 or getting out with bound/vault.
Fantastic, thanks for the help. So, use 4’s only when at range to help get into close range because of the blind, use 3 and the auto attack all the time, rarely use vault, and only use 2 when combined with steal for a burst?
I saw Sindrener 1v1 with staff against Misha (Zerker) and he was using skills 3 and 4 a lot more than I expected.
So, how do you use staff in a 1v1? In teamfights its grand-slam vault spam obviously, but in 1v1 I have no idea how to use it.
Thanks guys!
What’s the best Engi roaming build for WvW right now?
Hey all, what are the best or cheesiest roaming builds for each class in WvW right now?
What’s new depends on if linkings were in effect when you left. If not, then a lot has changed. Currently servers are linked together to attempt to help with population issues and create more balanced matchups.
Also, DBL is back in action. There is now one DBL and two ABL’s. Red has DBL.
And coming soon are the scoring changes. This has the potential to be the biggest and best change since the culling fix. It could change how the game is played more than anything since launch.
I took a break shortly after the world linking. Very excited for scoring changes!
Is WvW still in a good place? What’s been going on?
They are still working hard on WvW. I believe the Desert Borderlands and Alpine borderlands are both available at all times now (depending on which map you are on, could actually be a hint that there will be a 3rd map added in the next expac? Who knows). They have been experimenting with repair tools and a bunch of other things. I’m not really a WvW player though so someone else might be able to give you more info regarding that.
PvE has received it’s first Living Story season 3 episode that includes a small new map. There have been a bunch of changes to HoT reward distribution (idk if that was before or after April though).
PvP seasons are still ongoing and I believe they are working on changing the matchmaking for it. Oh and there’s a new PvP map in BETA (a different version of Capricorn with a completely new layout).
Oh and on top of that there are a bunch of events spread over old maps that are tied to Living Story and function sort of as a build-up to what’s coming. The old events are still there (from before season 3 launched) so you can do all of them right now. The newest is in Earthshatter waypoint at frostgorge.
Wow thank you so much! Looks like I got a lot of catching up to do
Hey guys,
I took a break way back in April and have decided to come back to GW2. Where can I go to catch up on everything that has happened? Obviously the patch notes are a good place to start but that doesn’t tell me everything I need to know.
Also, is WvW still in an upswing? I remember in April they started to do the server linking and it made WvW a lot more fun.
Killshot in WvW is not viable anymore because of these reasons
25% damage nerf
Its not piecing through the enemy anymore.
Regular Killshot still pierces and it can still do a ton of damage though.
If from a WvW perspective (or pve) the numbers are overstated. There are people who just feel that anything Condi is not skill based so anytime they lose to a condi build they complain about how “out of control” the build is. It the same people complaining over and over again about a build rarely used, giving the impression they are rampant in numbers.
In a typical night WvW I see one in 10 at most condi thief builds. The majority of these are the old p/d build. I myself play at times a d/d db condi build and can roam entire weeks without seeing another.
With D/D it just the old unicorn build refined and with p/d it pretty standard built around stealth and sneak attacks for bleeds. Some few use d/p and trappers with high stealth uptime.
Now I do not PvP and maybe more are seen there. I will let another answer to that mode.
Yes it’s for WvW, sorry I forgot to clarify. What’s the P/D daredevil build and where can I find the D/D unicorn build? I want to hunt them down on my Necro.
I keep seeing people talk about this daredevil condi build which I cannot find anywhere. What is it?
Is it fun and effective?
So you keep 100% stealth uptime with d/p heartseeker combo, right? So nobody sees you coming and you start casting tripwire, steal in right before it finishes casting, and then you place needle trap and caltrops?
And they just melt?
Those are with just food buffs and bordelands bloodlust.
I haven’t been beaten 1v1 in months with this thing.
PS: I don’t 1v1 full dire condi daredevils. Nothing beats a decent one in 1v1 right now.
What’s your build and what’s this condi daredevil build you speak of?
For larger group play – I wouldn’t play a classic non-chronomancer mesmer unless you really only like to veil or portal. They don’t work well for larger groups unless they’re Chronomancer. Like Fay said above me, you’re best going with Ele, necro, warrior or Guardian for larger group play. I have builds for all of those in my forum signature ( http://asphyxia.tv/builds )
You’ve responded to all my threads today XD. I’m gonna bookmark your site. Also, do you have a warrior build for zergs that doesn’t use berserker elite spec or marauders gear? And is there a frontline ele build that doesn’t require celestial?
Haha, I have just been browsing the professions area today a bit.
I could make a warrior build that doesn’t use berserker, it would basically be everything the same as it is except instead of berserker line, I’d take “Strength” line and take “Restorative Strength”, “Great Fortitude”, “Berserker’s Power” in that line.
And as far as the front line ele build goes – you CAN make it work without Celestial, but every variation I’ve ever tried has not been close to the same results. The closest I came had no condition damage and dealt less over all damage and it was a mixture of Marauders and Nomads. It didn’t work nearly as well as the Celestial, but it was the only thing that could survive enough.
Alright got it, thank you!

I’m talking non-chronomancer Mesmer. I saw the Zerg support build on metabattle but it’s very outdated.
Ele really covers most of the bases just for sheer adaptability. Rev as well. Warrior kind of.
Ele is prob the closest to tops at switching between roles. You can be near immortal command, roaming, frontline support or backline insane dps with meteor shower dishing sick amounts of damage.
Other classes can cover the bases as well but lackluster in some roles.
What build makes you “immortal” in the frontline?
Shiro utility, constant swiftness with herald?
I’ve heard Phase Traversal is pretty good for getting away from enemies, but isn’t it hard since you have to have a target?
Topic. What can I do to get away from enemies?
Have you tried running the game in Windows 7 combatability mode? That’s what worked for me.
Sounds like you have frame limiter on?
Try setting it to 60/Unlimited.
I have it at unlimited.
30 FPS + 200 ping + 3 second skill lag = best
consolewvw experience.Yes it’s common and no, there isn’t much you can do besides upgrading your cpu, which is usually the bottleneck.
Ok got it. 30 FPS is just fine by me I just think it’s weird that graphics don’t affect my FPS.
after the linking, it does get crazy when theres huge zergs in the map. at one point during a 3 way fight my fps went from 102 to 15 within a second. felt like hell.
Yeah I noticed that too but it doesn’t seem like graphics affect FPS in WvW. Playing on high settings and playing on low settings gave me the same FPS.
Hey all,
Yesterday I was playing with the Zerg and I was trying to find the “optimal” graphics settings for WvW. I wanted good FPS (around 60) while having the game be as pretty as possible. As I was playing I realized that when I had the graphics as “best performance” I was getting the same FPS (around 35) as when I had the graphics at “best quality”.
Is this a common thing in WvW? How can I increase my FPS?
Also, I get 60 FPS on highest settings (except shadows turned down to high instead of ultra) in PvE and PvP.
Edit: My VSync is off. Before anyone tells me that’s the reason, it isn’t.

I’m looking for one.
I generally play WvW in the off-hours but I like playing in a Zerg. What is the highest ranking NA server that doesn’t have long queues in off-hours but still has big zergs? Idc if queues are big in primetime hours.
Long ago, players were having fun by using temporary items in GW2. You know, things you buy from NPCs, like golem in a box, spike fruits, etc.
Despite these items being useful, Anet decided WvW should be “competitive” and removed them. Then players would find another temporary items with an interesting wvw use, then they’d have to nerf that, and so on.
After a while Anet just went with the nuclear option and disabled all inventory-clicky items from WvW because their player base was whiny.
Oh that’s a shame :/ I don’t see how the broom would be that bad but whatever.
I really want to buy the Riding Broom but the wiki says it isn’t available for WvW, does anyone know why that is?
I’m still probably going to buy it. I’m just curious as to why Anet would do this.
Yes it is still effective. With the buffs to stealth, etc. mesmers can still hide and are hard to kill.
What buffs to stealth? I’ve been on and off recently so I don’t know everything.
Hi all,
I haven’t tried WvW in a while but I’m thinking of hopping on my Mesmer when I start to play it again this weekend. I’ve heard that keep and tower capturing has changed so Mesmers can’t hide in towers or keeps anymore because their icon shows on the enemies minimap. Is this still true, and if so how hard is it for Mesmers to camp out in keeps or towers nowadays?
I really want to do some portal plays :P
I’m talking best class for zerging, roaming, scouting, soloing camps, and running away from enemies to avoid fights when I feel like it.
It seems like warrior would be the best class to use whenever I’m in the mood for any of these things. What do you guys think?
All of those suggestions are really good, I hope Anet implements them.
I called it. It was so obvious that they would bring SAB back. It is one of the few things that can ease the pain of no more legendary weapons.
Not that it’s a bad thing
Dear Mike,
Obviously there is some hate on this thread, but there are also a lot of people who LOVE the communication. I am one of those people. Please keep up the communication even if it kittenes some people off. A lot of people appreciate it.
I know you probably won’t read this but still worth a try :P
I think Silverkey is just pointing out that it is even easier with necro, and you can solo some content that I think was intended to be done with a group. For instance, in the Mad King’s Labyrinth, I got yelled at because I was soloing the non-boss doors in the labyrinth, and everyone else was apparently part of a zerg that I was screwing over unintentionally. Someone else in another thread said they were able to solo some of the bosses with their’s. That is not something I would have tried, but apparently we can pull it off. I would not have tried either of those with other classes.
I’ve seen warriors, guardians, and Rangers solo bosses in Mad King’s Labyrinth with ease, it’s not just necromancers.
First off, I would totally do dungeons with you sometime! Secondly, most dungeons can actually be solo’d right now. It isn’t that hard as long as you know the mechanics of the bossfights and know how to skip trash. I can solo any dungeon that can be solo’d (Dungeons that don’t require 5 players to work) on my necromancer. It’s not because I am a good player, it’s because A. Reaper with Rise! is amazing in PvE and B. I know the dungeon and what to skip.
I understand what you mean though, it is really hard to solo if you’re a casual player or if you aren’t running a cheese build. And regardless of build, it takes a long time. The reward you get for soloing dungeons is just satisfaction right now.

No one really knows exactly what. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of those things you listed. I also would not be surprised if none of them show up.
Isn’t this supposed to be a balance update as well? Since they are doing those quarterly.
No balance update mid pvp season, atleast thats what they said. Their word isnt really something of much value anymore since recent days.
if they do, however stick with that, and there is a balance patch included in the april update, it could be the 19th at best, since thats the first tuesday after the season ends.
They specifically stated there would be quarterly balance updates.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/profession-balance-goals-for-the-winter-2016-update/
That was the last one in mid January. So there will be one in April. I assume it will happen right after the PvP season ends, which is what they did last time as well. Not sure if they will split the April “content” update we are assuming is coming and the “Balance” update though. So all you Necros out there, get ready, you are going the way of the Burnzerker!
Yey! make necros useless waste of data in PVE again.
cries
April 19 is the most probable date.
Don’t expect SAB. ever.
PVP balance – possible,
WvW overhaul – MAYBE. Would be cool to have a tournament like in 2014.
Scribing costs fixed – likely, hopefully
Leather fix – doubt it
Dungeons – maybeI am clueless what will be included in it. We only know it won’t be:
- raid wing 3
- LS s03e01
- more than one new legendariesI think we can expect something like rework of Claw of Jormag or maybe some other open-world bosses. But from what they said about the update it sounds like there definitely will be some filler content that can be in a way considered a living story.
Actually, the best time for them to bring back SAB is now. SAB is one of the only things that could soothe the pain of no Legendary Weapons, although temporarily. It could distract players (for a little while) from the problems HoT gave us.
If woodenpotatoes leaves then I’m out. If someone so passionate for the game and it’s lore decides to quit then that’s a pretty big sign the game’s going downhill.
Terrible time to tell us this news considering April 1st is right around the corner. Unless it’s an April Fool’s joke, which I don’t think it is.
If it is, it.is the most evil one ever, or what they could do it just mail everyone’s legendary weapon. That they can’t use as its soul bound to someone else.
Yeah that would probably be worse XD

It’s a S/P build with Merc Amulet, both interrupt traits, a bunch of random choices to get a decent crit %, and a complete identity crisis about whether this is a power or condi build. There is absolutely no reason to play this.. so play it.

That’s really good too, thanks for the links!
Yea some parts are missing / not ingame like this.
But something like this maybe?
(except for my hair ofc
)
That’s perfect! What are the armors and dyes?
I really want to make my Charr engineer look like this, anyone know some armor combos that look similar?
Thief is very good with mobility and has high dps.
If there were unlimited space on a team, I am sure people would not mind as much, but if there is a queue on the map and you are running around with a drum, most people will probably wish you to log out so someone that is actually there to fight could have a place on the map who is waiting to do so.
Think of it like this.. in the middle of a football game going on, some guy with a drum comes out on the field getting in the way and one of the players fighting on your team has to leave since you count for a place on their team. Now imagine if not only do you have a guy with a drum doing this, then some other guys set up a knitting club in the middle of the field during the game ( those coming on to do other things than play) and for every one of them the team trying to play the game loses a player for each.. then you have a few other guys on the team stop moving around at all ( afkers) .. meanwhile the team they are trying to fight against has more players actually fighting the game than standing around or drumming or doing other things.. so your team gets face rolled because they were outnumbered 5 to one on the battlefield since your team didn’t work together to win instead of play with drums and other stuff during the match. That is how WvW is.. if you are not helping your team, you are part of those helping them lose.
This is not an open world PvP mode allowing for many players to be in it at once, it is very limited, thus anyone on the map not actually fighting and helping the server is often a burden to the rest of those who are doing so making their jobs that much harder.
I don’t know if you saw me write this, but I was thinking of putting it away when I get into a fight, so I wouldn’t be hurting my team at all. Unless my Zerg is destroying everybody, I won’t use my drum in a fight. Besides, when you get into combat the drum automatically unequips and you can’t use it.
Unrelated note but I remember once standing outside SMC with a few people this guy just rushed us out of no where and downed in about a quarter of a second. One of the people with me pulls out a trumpet and starts to play the soldier’s funeral song
Laughed so hard my stomach started to hurt.
That hilarious and something I would totally do Actually, I’d let my teammate die and then play that song instead of ressing him haha.
