Okay…. so you wanna test your build and those troublesome do-gooders are showing up and killing your trash mobs?

Then fear not, fellow Tyrian! Our sources speak of a magical area called the “Mistlock Observatory” that may or may not (it’s may) contain an old Asura combat training golem / program. We hear this is located in the Fractals of the Mists… Rumor has it that you can even modify the combat to test certain things such as your ability to withstand CCs and other effects.

And, for more group related activities: There’s the Special Forces Training Area located beneath Lion’s Arch. This area is accessed via the Aerodrome. It is here that a nearly identical Asura combat training program exists… but for an entire group… let’s call them “squads”… of warriors to test their combat prowess….

There are ways, dear friend, to achieve what you want. You’ve just got to look around to find them.

A memo to ANet and Steve Blum...

in Living World

Silas Eorth.7348

(Mostly for ANet) So… Season Three is coming to an end and honestly I’ve had a wonderful time with it. I’m happy with the new maps, dailies, currencies and items, etc… And as for the pace of delivery for content, I’m happy. With about 8 – 12 weeks between content releases (considering “festival timetable adjustment”), I’m never going through too much “meh-I’m-bored” time.

(ANet + Steve Blum) My only major complaint is I’m not seeing much of my favorite character and I’m just a little disappointed by that. Okay, Rytlock was called back to the Black Citadel. Right after we were briefly reunited with him after the Mordromoth campaign…. where he was largely absent because of being in the Mists…..

I’m just gonna leave this lil’ pic I made and say that we need more Rytlock. I hope you guys can feel me on this one.

Episode 4 release time?

No, the money was paid for the living story content. Without it I can’t log to play the game.

Wrong. You can log in and play the game. The you can play in the HoT maps, the core maps, PvP, WvW, Dragonball special event, even some LS3 maps. Not having the new chapter to the story will stop you from being able to log in and do something (besides the newest story chapter).

So in this case, I paid for HoT but the content was badly broken and still isn’t fixed till today, shouldn’t Anet give ppl something?

On this point, you’re correct: You payed for HoT. HoT is not broken… well, not in a way that hurts you. It’s just the next chapter of the Living Story which is free content for the time being is delayed. This doesn’t entitle you to anything. Nothing. And even “free stuff” isn’t free. The economy would be affected by any hand outs. Even account-bound free items would have an affect on ANet’s sales. Just suck it up and enjoy the one thing in HoT that is still (technically) broken

… the Auric Basin Multi Map! When ANet does release the next chapter of LS3, the will fix the ABMM…. so no more sweet sweet looting. :P

How's Guild Wars doing after colin leaving?

I didn’t get much of a chance to see how the game was before HoT ( I was about 5 month in when it dropped). And while I’ve enjoyed everything before LS3 came about, there were times I felt like we were in a “content drought”.

MO stated that the way ANet was going to deliver was going to change and honestly, I like it. For me, it’s the perfect amount of stuff to do with just the right amount of time to enjoy it before the next episode of the LS releases. Also, I love how they are really making the new maps have more incentive to return after you map complete.

Also, the reintroduction of the Legendary Weapons is really nice. A lot of people were kittened about the initial release and the previous call to suspend them indefinitely. Now, we’re seeing one new Legendary per chapter. To me that tells me that ANet is trying to please their customers. I’ve got a good feeling about this post-Colin ANet.

I wish this was the case. Since Malyck’s origin is still shrouded in mystery, I’d love to know more about him. If he wasn’t born of the Pale Tree, then where did he really come from? (I don’t think Mordie is the end-all answer for all things Sylvari.)

Although, if it is Malyck the patch note refer to, then why would it be fractal related? Perhaps a crossing of paths between him and the “Mysterious Asura” in the not too distant future?

It’s been requested a million times and the answer stays the same: We don’t need mounts and there’s no logical reason to add them now.

Okay, obviously I know never to buy gold from a gold seller…. but is it still okay to send them troll responses back before report/blocking them?

Most of the time, I just go through the motions quietly… but if I’m getting spammed a lot, I do like to reply to their “sales pitch” with cynical or completely off-the-wall comment. For instance, my usual one is “I don’t have money, but I’ll gladly meet you for some ERP so you can show me the Juggernaut *wink*wink*”

I know there’s a good chance that they may never see that reply or even know what language I’m replying in…. but if there’s even a slim chance I can disturb them and make them regret pestering me….. I enjoy taking it.

A Gift of BL Keys from ANet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silas Eorth.7348

Silas Eorth.7348

So, after being unable to play due to some medical stuff, I finally made it back home and to the game. This evening while running around LA, I got a mail that said: “A Gift From (image of Black Lion Emblem).” Included was a 25 pack of BL Keys.

I’ve never received a gift in the game before. At first I thought “Oh wow… Maybe I was like a lucky winner of something from ANet.” But after some time, I got to thinking… perhaps it was from another (possibly anonymous) player?

So, my two questions: 1) Does ANet do things like this. or 2) Was it an anonymous player gift and that’s what the letter head looks like when they do it?

Either way, I’m extremely grateful for the kindness. I’ve been through hell lately, so this was truly a blessing and really elevated my spirits. If it’s not ANet, I have my suspicions on who the wonderful benefactor(s) may be. And I hope they know how much it meant.

After level 80, whats next?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Silas Eorth.7348

Silas Eorth.7348

(This is probably better for the “Players Helping Players” forum.)

This is why the level 80 boost wasn’t the best thing. With an auto 80 character, you’re skipping essentially what the “training mode” of the game is. Get out in the world, explore things and do some events. Get some waypoints, points of interest, etc. Basically, anything to learn your class better.

Whatever the daily is, try to do three of those. For longer-term stuff, do some story missions. Find a beginner’s group for dungeons and low level fractals. The simplest answer is do things that you enjoy. I would also strongly suggest going to the collection vendor in Lion’s Arch and start working on those. You want to do anything that will gain you Achievement Points. Don’t worry about trying hard to make gold as that will come with time and experience.

For customing your character (equipment and build) you need to learn the Hero Panel. Explore all the options there and get a general idea of what each section offers. I’d suggest hitting the /wiki for specific stuff (like Specializations and Traits).

Above all, remember the /wiki is your best friend for general knowledge. And going to a site like Metabattle will help you find builds others have come up with.

Good luck, Typhoon.

Add crafting stations to G hall

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silas Eorth.7348

Silas Eorth.7348

I agree completely with this. The Guild Hall is nice for being somewhat innovative and convenient. But the lack of the other crafting stations does cause most of our guild to be in scattered areas throughout the world. I’ve got a small suspicion that we’ll see them with whatever update gives us something more than our next “Current Events” (LS3 maybe?). (Particularly interesting that we can’t hit lvl. 65… crafing stations will be the next level of upgrades?)

Although, if this isn’t for the patch, I hope that ANet seriously considers it. They don’t need to be reworked into the existing areas (i.e. not near scribe station). There’s plenty of space in a “max” level guild hall for their own area.

Untradable weapon skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silas Eorth.7348

Silas Eorth.7348

Yeah, this was a pretty big discussion topic a while back. I had to go bad a few pages to find the old post.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Untradable-weapon-skins

If you want to skip most of the QQ’ing and ranting, then here is the Dev’s quotes from the page.

(For a quick summary: TL;DR= This isn’t an attempt to jack up sales. It’s a exclusive set that will never see an increase in ticket price. Not all future sets will be account-bound either so we don’t have to worry about the tradeable ones being a distant memory.)

Reading this thread, we understand your questions and want to share a little information: This set is designed to be a special, exclusive set and therefore it’s a little different than most. There are a couple of other interesting factors that you’ll want to know: The set is available for one ticket. It will remain priced at one ticket into the future, so someone who wants it now doesn’t need to be concerned about it becoming unavailable or about it rising in price in the future. Other sets currently available are not account bound, such as the Cavalier Weapon Set which was recently released at a price of 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket and remains at that price now. In addition, we do intend to continue to offer tradeable sets in the future. If you’d like a preview of the new set, go to your bank wardrobe and filter for “Privateer.” We hope this answers your questions, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

-Sarah

And the second one:

I’d like to reply to those who are saying that making this set account-bound is “a money grab.” Please keep in mind that we make the same amount of revenue for each BLC weapon skin that enters the game through MTX regardless of whether or not that weapon skin is later resold on the trading post.

The currency exchange is a player driven market and as the gem-to-gold exchange rate has increased, the trading post value of BLC weapon skins hasn’t kept pace. That leads to the common complaint that it feels bad to buy Black Lion chests for gems, because it seems as if they’re full of things that you could have bought more cheaply by converting your gems to gold instead. It’s not our goal to make you feel like a chump for buying chests. After all, by buying chests, you’re supporting the creation of the content that everyone plays. So it’s nice for there to be account-bound things in the chests in addition to the other tradeable items. With a lot of the chest contents, it’s not possible for them to be account-bound, because for a lot of things you’d be screwed if you got dupes and couldn’t off-load them to friends or onto the Trading Post. By putting the skins on the Black Lion Weapon Specialists we support those who have stored tickets and still have a combination of account-bound and non-account-bound items in the chest, as we did before today’s release.

This set of purely cosmetic skins still can ultimately be acquired either by purchasing them or by earning gold in the game and trading it for gems. If you like getting skins from the chests that can’t be obtained more cheaply through the trading post, use your claim tickets on these weapons. Or if you prefer tradeable skins, use your claim tickets for the other weapon sets, or acquire those weapon sets by trading for them with other players who bought them with claim tickets.

We on the dev team want to thank you again for taking the time to share your views with us.

Besides… there are more important things the devs need to be working on besides new animations for each race and emotes: the next living story, the next expansion, quality of life updates, etc. I’d rather these things be top priority than any new emotes, honestly.

Disable special bag features

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silas Eorth.7348

Silas Eorth.7348

Ah, now I see your problem. And I have to admit, after an epic run through Tarir I’ve encountered the problem of having a few things in bags they shouldn’t be in. Yet that’s due to the fact that all the storage for my generic bags was full and there was no other option for those things to be placed anywhere else. It’s a very minor annoyance, but one that I can tolerate.

For my main, I have max bag slots and have them arranged in a specific order to limit the amount of management I have to do. First “invisible” which is always full, then the next three bags are generics. After that I have my specific bags: The three fractal bags (Masterwork, Rare, and Exotic gear) and a bag for junk items.

Having them in this order ensures that the time I spend micromanaging my bags is kept at a very bare minimum. And again, only in cases of overflow do I have to worry about cleanup. Perhaps a similar bag scheme would make things a little less tedious for you.

Disable special bag features

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silas Eorth.7348

Silas Eorth.7348

Sometimes you want the default arrangement properties, but not the won’t sort properties. It would also help if we had actual sorting instead of just compression.

I don’t understand the logic on this one. If you have a bag that’s specifically for junk items and then you click the compress key and it sorts the junk items out of its special bag, doesn’t that defeat the purpose of having it in the first place?

If you don’t want the special property bags with the non-sort option, it would be better to just TP them and get the bags that you want. Or give them as gifts to new guildies that have no bags. Or use them on an alt.

For ANet to modify the way the old bags work would be too much trouble for them, IMO. If anything, maybe it would be better to request recipes for new bags that function the way you want.

Currently there is no simple option to reset and reallocate your points. The only way I think you would be able to do so is to request an account rollback and even that may not be possible if there has been a considerable amount of time since you assigned those points. And that’s only if ANet is willing to even do an account rollback in the first place.

Sorry, Fiddle… but this may be a case of you having to grit your teeth and hunting for the last points you need.

I’d like to see how “just” and “fair” they are when ANet decides that something they love is no longer relevant to the game and it’s removed.

Perhaps the biggest problem here they they don’t realize is that this is a change that was handled poorly and that has affected a very large portion of players. It’s no longer about us PvEer’s having to got to WvW… It’s not longer about about our previous efforts being nullified and us having to start over again. What it’s about is the fact that ANet is willing to make changes that affect everyone with no clear indication or warning before doing so. It’s a lack on communication between the game developers and the player base.

Eventually there will come a time when such changes affect us all equally and I predict they won’t be so high and mighty in their opinions. Some of the WvWers get this and understand. And to them, I hope they are ever watchful and willing to be very vocal about the injustice we all face. But for the spiteful and arrogant WvWers… well, this is what they deserve for being so blind and condescending. Turnabout is fair play, as they say.

What concerns me the most about all of this is there has still been no reply whatsoever from ANet over our feedback. And yet, still nothing from ANet on this issue. Absolutely nothing saying they are standing by this decision or that they are considering our views. Just knowing that our concerns are not being ignored would be appreciated. But I don’t get this feeling from them and it gives me the impression that our concerns do not matter.

It’s not ambiguous. They put up a poll asking if we thought reward tracks were good enough to come out of beta. The community voted yes, so ANet did exactly what they said they would, and logically did it in the next available update. GoB going to a track wasn’t a secret… If people can’t be bothered to look at the patch notes and focus in on the mode of gameplay they play in then that’s on them.

Actually, I don’t think that PvPers were aware of this poll. From my understanding, you only get notifications about polls if you are an active WvW player and the info is sent via in-game mail. That is unless you actually logged onto the GW2 webpage and participated in the poll via the link.

Either way, it still boils down to a universal problem at the source of all of this: Very poor communication on ANet’s part to ensure that everyone was up-to-date and aware of what is going on.

So after spending a few hours in WvW and barely putting a dent in the reward track progress, I’ve come up with a wonderful strategy to get the Gift of Battle:

  • Go into EB or the BLs and find a place you can just get easy, no-effort progress towards the point reward. Try to avoid areas where actual WvW is taking place and focus on areas where you can safely AFK for about 10 minutes at a time.
  • Work on capping your rewards at the top tier (195 pts) and then do the absolute bare minimum to maintain this reward rate. Once this is achieved, settle back and watch cat videos on YouTube, check Facebook, or just browse the forums. Remember to maintain your bare minimum at least once every 10 minutes of doing nothing productive for your server or else you risk losing your progress percentage.
  • Completely ignore all friendly zergs, blobs, roamers, havok squads, etc. Remember, you’re there for your own needs. Who cares about points per tick or the WvW score anyway? The only thing that matters is getting your Gift of Battle without actually doing any real participation.

Of course this is just a cynical “how-to” about how to get track progress… but it’s an actual method that can (and probably will) be employed when no other meaningful options or alternatives exist. Sure it’s still going to take 10+ hours to finish the track even once, but what does it matter if you can do other things if you’re being forced to spend time doing something you don’t care about?

Maybe if people actually take this seriously and do the above, ANet will see that serious WvWers will now have to contend with apathetic players who are simply taking the spot of legitimate players who could contribute to the servers. I can easily see this becoming a problem (or solution) for many and one that will negatively impact what WvW was truly designed for.

I think this is a questionable change, but on the other hand I am wondering why people didn’t use their “thousands of badges” to get what they needed especially since badges have little other use than that one daily. It makes sense if you feel you can’t grind badges to get it, but otherwise with preexisting badges? With badges becoming an increasingly devalued currency and also found via achievement chests, I think it would only be practical to buy it in case.

I have an unused Gift of Battle from years ago, because I think they announced some changes to badges even though I haven’t bothered making a legendary.

For me personally, because I just got my very first precursor drop ever just a few hours ago. I was always so skeptical that I’d never get a precursor so I never did the research into all the numerous gifts I would need. Sure I could have bought a bunch of gifts for a bunch of different legends “just to have them just in case” but I’d rather keep that bank space open for things that I know I need.

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. ANet please revert this so that we can purchase the gift from the vendor. I never played WvW that much (just long enough to get a daily) and now I never go into this game mode at all. IMO, it feel like you’re forcing people to have to take part in a game mode they don’t care for.

I know you guys are really big on trying to make WvW and PvP something awesome for the fans of those modes, but for people like myself who strictly spend their time in PvE this is absolutely unfair and forces us to spend a long time doing something we absolutely hate just to make progress on our legendaries.

Imagine if you told PvPers they had to run Silverwastes event trains for hours to raise their rank? How much backlash would that cause? Or what if you told WvWers they had to win 20 ranked PvP games a week to be able to spend the rank points they earned? It would really kitten off or discourage people from playing as much as the do because they are obligated to put up with situations they never cared for in the first place.

I have no problem spending my BoH that I earned when I cared about WvW… but having to get my kitten kicked by zergs for hours to gain miniscule progress on the gift and developing a deep resentment for the game? Not cool at all, ANet. Not cool at all.

F2P Experience: Complaint

Most people don’t have walls of text to complain for no reasonable reason, keep that in mind.

Actually you would be surprised. I’ve seen angry and uninformed players put more work into their rants than George R.R. Martin has put in his most recent book.

But back on topic: I would agree with the majority of the replies here. The information on F2P limitations was available. It’s not ANet’s fault that the OP didn’t take the time to do a quick review of the differences between a F2P account and a paid account.

There is already a 15% conversion fee.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Currency_exchange

Here’s the specific text directly copy-pasted from the wiki:

  • Transaction fee is a 15% fee for trading gems for gold or vice-versa. For example, exchanging 1 Gold coin gives 85 Silver coin worth of gems while reselling those gems returns only around 72 Silver coin 25 Copper coin, resulting in a net loss of roughly 28%

That’s not what he’s asking for. That’s buying and then reselling gems (flipping). What he’s asking for is a direct tax on buying gems with gold if you buy greater than X amount of gems in a certain period of time. He wants to limit gold to gems purchases with this tax.

Of course, I understand his original intent. And that the entirety of the section I provided does indeed apply to gem flippers. But even if one does not flip their gems, the 15% conversion fee still applies. Exactly what the first sentence in the bolded text states.

Tl;dr = There is already a tax on conversions. I’m not sure that adding an increased tax will be that well received by the rest of the community.

Smooth, some have stated that they understand that your heart is in the right place while others have claimed that constantly bringing up these “hot button” issues is only a self-serving desire. I’m not going to agree with either, but I can see the possibility of both seperately.

What happened in Orlando was tragic and many people of both the hetero and homosexual communities have been impacted by the hatred and violence surrounding it all.

As for ANet, I think that for them to take action leads to a very slippery slope. It would set a precedent for them to have to respond to every issue and every tragedy. It would lead to a perception of bias towards or discrimination against other equally important issues. And honestly, with as messed up as our real world is, they would have to spend every single moment devoting their time are resources to doing “something special” to appease everyone. If you truly want to raise in-game awareness or show support for a cause, let it fall upon the players (or yourself) to organize something. An in-game Pride march is a wonderful example.

Meanwhile, out of game, there are other ways to show your support. Donate to the Red Cross or visiting your local blood bank are notable examples. Perhaps you could organize a charity drive for the families. There’s so much that can be done to help and all it takes is a little initiative or a Google search to get involved. There are better ways to do something than asking for a symbolic item on the Gem Store.
