People are being disingenuous to suggest it’s just a simple as calling rotations. Premades have a huge advantage of optimizing team class composition AND complimentary builds. Showing up with a team you have structured and set up builds and practiced with and are discussing strategy and calling combos is an easy win against a pick up group of statistically equal players

It’s a joke to pretend the solo player showing up in a slapped together pug isn’t at a disadvantage.

They should add 2 options when you queue:
1)fast queue – limited matchmaking, priority on time
2)slow queue -superior matchmaking but taking a bit longer
This way people can decide if they want to wait longer for a better matchup or play as soon as possible.

This leaderboard is silly. It’s a measurement of who can spam the most games.

However, the leaderboard shouldn’t be about rewarding top players stacking themselves into one team to farm unorganized pugs or lesser teams.

If you’re a top player why are you dodging other top players by teaming with them?

Really getting tired of this new system it just doesn’t work for soloQ. I really hate having to try and carry 4 people each match that can’t cap/decape/hold points and some how the other team always knows how to do these things. I liked it when i could play on the old ladder and play with all 10 people knowing how to play the game.

It seems as my rating keeps dropping as solo player, I am getting matched with lower and lower skilled (other solo) players. I didn’t used to get teamed with people that would stand 3 or 4 on an uncontested point to capture it? So my odds of winning keep getting worse.

Its a death-spiral of horrible match making argh.

Lose 10 in-a-row? Must be a balance issue and not a lack of skill. Blowout happens, but if it happens consistently then you’d have to figure out that the only consistent thing in each map is you.

I can’t imagine he’s the worst player in the game though, or that he’s so bad that there’s no group of 4 players that could carry him over the worst possible team of 5?

OP’s relative skill can be explained by his losing record. But unless OP is trolling, 0 wins in 10 games says more about the matchmaker than OP’s skill, because I refuse to believe anyone could be that bad.

These matches are so bad!!!! I don’t understand what happened but someone did a terrible god awful job implementing this. Every other match has a 300 point landslide with 5 pre-made dragons versus 5 solo rabbits…. This is the dumbest most enraging state of sPVP I’ve seen since launch. It’s borderline unbelievable.

Nope, probably won’t break top 100 because I refuse to pub stomp my way to the top. My playstyle is to team queue when other teams are playing, for quality matches and to not annoy people who aren’t expecting to face an Abjured pug. I might play 25-30 games a week.

That bothers you doesn’t it

What would you suggest? I can queue up and stomp you and other unsuspecting, average players for 20 hours a week if you’d prefer. I’d definitely be top rated!

Do you see why incentivizing top teams to do this in order to stay competitive is bad?

I do not see how revamping leader boards and giving out glorious armor/llama finishers somehow is an incentive to top players

That is clearly something that is geared towards bringing in new/casual/average players

The only incentive for you guys to play and practice is money tournaments – Do you really care about the leader boards? Does it matter if you are not in the top 100?

If the system is well done I think you guys will be represented in the top of the leader boards regardless

This last part is vital to the games success. I posted this many times over the last year on the forums. Please don’t sacrifice this ideal because it is so important. Some people will QQ about it. But they have vested interests. It is so important that less skilled people who play alot are rewarded.

I think what people might be forgetting, is that we also have tournaments, ESL cups, etc. to cater to those who want skill to be the absolute determinant.

What should it be based on other than skill? Lol effort???

How do you measure individual skill of a player when they’re in a regular team?

I find necro terrible in soloQ.
It needs other members to babysit you , them knowing how to move as you wont catch up to anyone sneaking a decap AND with current matchmaking – what use does me killing a engie in 20s make , if we have a downed guy after 5-10s.

Good necros in coordinated team comp… okay to super great when against engies.

So idk, since patch i lose A LOT on necro, i win more on alts, but when i team up with guild im 19/20 so far.

Top players in the game queue with each other claim there is no competition and want to be high on the leader boards?

Why do you guys not actually go for a challenge and stop grouping up and stomping everyone? There are literally about 20 elite players in NA and they all play with each other then complain there is no competition. WTF!?

The ladder is perfectly fine how it is – we already know who the top players in the game are we do not need you on the leader boards too. Go play in china win tournaments or go play in the weeklies

Leader boards are for casuals and something to attain for lesser skilled players – it promotes participation which is healthy for the game

I agree. Justin wrote in the pre-patch blog that winning probabilities are introduced to make it more rewarding when you keep fighting. But the motivation is gone as long as you are not going to know the outcome.

This is entirely the issue right now.

You should be placed into a bracket at the start of a season based on your MMR, and your ladder points in that bracket based on your activity. This is how other online competitive games do it.

For example in SC2 by MMR:
Bronze – bottom 10% of players
Silver – next 35% (10-45)
Gold – next 35% (45-80)
Platinum – next 15% (80-95)
Diamond – next 5% (95-99)
Master and GM – top 1%

This way, you won’t see a ‘meh’ MMR player in the top 25 of all the LB due to sheer activity. They’d be top in their lower MMR bracket, and the best by MMR would still be visible in the high brackets.

People will be rewarded for skill and improvement by placing in higher brackets as new seasons come and go, and rewarded by participation by winning their bracket. Could even have an end of season reward structure that better rewards the higher brackets. This encourages everyone to play, because even the lower skilled players have something to strive for in winning the lower end brackets, rather than being rank 8000 or w/e it is now.

This is kind of an odd analogy, but it makes sense to me:

Imagine the ranked queue as college football (USA!). In college football, sometimes you have the top ranked school in the country playing unranked teams, or teams in lower divisions. All parties involved are well aware of this situation going into it, and leaving it. There are certainly moral victories if Grand Valley State plays well against Alabama.

However, in GW2’s current system, you potentially have Grand Valley State going against Alabama; but, before, during, and after the match, neither team knows it. This leaves the underdog walking away dejected and not understanding why the were just annihilated.

If they have to go with this system where sometimes really good teams play far inferior teams, they have to make it readily apparent to all parties involved once this occurs.

P.S. – Now that teams queue together straight from the party system, can’t the game put an icon of some sort next to the player’s names that joined a party together (ala Call of Duty). This would provide a little insight into what you can expect during the match.

For some reason there is a huge surge of pve players in rated arenas. So if you want to have a good time or just care about your win ratio I would advise to take a break from pvp and let things settle.

The PvP buff is on, that is likely drawing in an inordinate amount of PvEers.

I am having close games in duo queue but the skill discrepency is just way too much.

I am playing with newbie players. That is the main and pretty much only issue I have had with matchmaking. I should never be in a game with random pve dudes. It should never ever happen.

The matchmaking needs to make close games. But it also needs to make the players in the game of similar skill level.

I feel like it is me and 4 60% ranked people. And I am vs 5 80% ranked people. My team dies everywhere and I have to carry hard to win just by a few points. But it isn’t satisfying gameplay as I am just rolling them and they are rolling my team mates. Result = not that good.

Whoa now, you got 4 people at 60% on leaderboards and 80% on leaderboards? That’s really low, you have to be extremely bad to get that low, like a 30% chance win rate or lower.

You have to also realize that theres not many people who are considered ‘good’ that can put up ‘good fights’.

You ever play a FPS game? Where its pretty much 1 guy dominating? Sometimes its like 3 or 4 guys dominating out of like 16+ players? The other people not dominating are like all closely together score wise but nowhere near the top. Its how competitive games work, some people are just too good. Rarely you’ll get a game where its nothing but good players.

Like lets look at NA. Say you got that team that won, abjured.
The only people worthy facing them probably Iuck, Davinci, Darth Vanquisher, Hman, and Zoose. Matter of fact, I bet that team right there would won abjured. Theres other good players out there, but for now, that’s my team that I think would put up good fights against abjured. And ya know what, chances of those guys playing together aint good, course they going to be complaining about matchmaking not working and playing against those ‘60% 80%’ers, because that all that’s leftover and available.

Also you have to realize, that most of those good players, play together.
How you going to get the matches you want if yall playing together?

You know how you talk about you duo queing? Well if ya didn’t duo que with your buddy who is most likely just as good as you, you’d be playing against him instead, but since you duo qued with him, you stuck with all the other people who are queing at that time. You keep checking your friendslist, keep queing with all those good players, stay partied, guess what theres no other good players to go against you unless they all magically login at same time and your partied up and now theres other good players online which means your going to have good matches now.

All has to do with whose online. And if you play with the other good players to eliminate tough matches which leads to good w/l ratio. if you party up with the good players which means you don’t face the good players, you will look much better on the leaderboard than having all those tough matches because you have to face them rather than being with them against all those newbies out there.

That’s fine to say. To be frank my leaderboard position was less about me trying to be #1 and more about me very much enjoying the game.

But the problem is that the new system is not providing me with very many enjoyable games anymore.

I don’t want to win 75% of the time. I would hate to be in a world where the competition was so far below me that I could influence a game to that degree by myself.

I also don’t want to lose 75% of the time and be surrounded by players tremendously below my peerage.

I want good even matches, with close scores, where I feel like my skill and my decisions actually matter. I don’t want to win and feel like it wasn’t in part due to me, and I also don’t want to lose and feel like I just scored 300+ points and absolutely dominated but we still lost 500-150.

But this new system is not delivering that. It is putting me into a vast majority of games which I’d rate as abjectly miserable. I just want to know if this is somehow explicable, and if this is somehow intended behavior. Because if I am supposed to lose 75% of the time because I am solo queuing from a high skill level then there are more questions to ask.

You see those people winning games, they are people who party with others in PvP. People just need to get out of that solo que all day mindset. Those who party will see more success.

This is good, because this game could use a lot more people playing cooperatively rather than I solo everything. Partying up means you might make a friend, and playing with friends makes games more fun. Playing with guildies you like make games fun. Things that are more social see more success. Look at facebook vs myspace. Myspace was like a solo site, you make your page look good and that’s about it. Facebook, you post status, everybody sees it and object is to keep commenting and liking other people, rather than Myspace where focus is just keep trying to make yourself look good. Facebook you make friends and you talk to them. Myspace you just try and make your friends list look as big as possible, to make yourself look good.

Dude you are chatting kitten. It has nothing to do with being in groups. I have duo queued and solo queued and its is the same. Farming total idiots. Anyone who has put enough time into this game to be good will be finding it the same. The issue is 100% just that the matchmaking is terrible for highly skilled players. Nothing to do with how they queue (group or solo or full team). They need to make it so that the system takes longer to find matches and only pops like it did before. I could team queue (on the rare occasion I did) with certainty on the old system that I would have competitive games. Now I know I won’t have any.

I was duo and trio queue btw. I didn’t try. Was half asleep. Let them cap points over and over. Messed around. And still won by miles. Not sure I died. And all this in 1 minute queues? The system has to try harder to find me a fun game imo.

Totally agree with henry, as i said in another post problem is not going solo, duoq or full team problem is that atm pvp is flooded by pve heroes (Probably going for rewards, silvers whatever…only god knows..) and matchmaking is just throwing those ppl in with no clue at all (That’s why i don’t go with less than 2 mates, in trioq you can still try to carry them somehow..classic “Go close, cap, stay there and don’t touch anything”) ….not sure if it’s actually because there are so few good players around those days that it’s almost impossible to gather them all together into reasonable matches or just totally broken matchmaking…but one thing is clear: This is NOT working (Well more likely never worked properly but now it’s totally fubar) …if this is what we have to pay in order to get shorter que times well…i’d rather wait…only had really few good enjoyable matches since patch got out…and i mean like 5-6 (One vs henry too) everything else it’s just random farming and it may be fun for the first few runs but after 10 runs it really starts getting kinda boring and stupid…let alone having to play this thing for another 10 days..

Let me start this by saying that I am a big fan of this game. I play all formats, and I play all classes. I am also not interested in blaming teammates, or putting blame on the new system. I just want to understand what is going on with this system and I want to know how long I will have to continue experiencing what I am currently experiencing.

I no longer feel like I am playing a competitive format when I solo queue. I am frustrated because I have played what I consider to be a fair number of games (over 30) since the change, and my experience has only gotten worse and worse as I seemingly continue to sink lower and lower.

I’ve got 2,848 games played, 1,829 of them being ranked.
I’ve been top 100 NA solo Q with 6 classes, top 10 with 2.
I held a steady 57-58% win rate in solo queue with over 1200 games.
I don’t recall my team queue, it was mostly from way before the split. Over 500 games, over 55% win rate.

Since the change I have played 32 or so games. I have won 6 or 7 of them. One of those wins was a 5v4. One of the losses was a 5v4 as well, that’s how bad my luck is.

I have been paired with afks, with people who have to stop mid match to change their bindings because they “haven’t played gw2 in months.” I’ve fought frenzy bulls charge warriors, I’ve fought staff guardians who only staff 1 and shout, like they’re in WvW.

I am used to a world where people had 80-100 personal score and the games were relatively even. 500-300 was a blowout.

I now live in a world where I die maybe once a match. Where I score over 300 points sometimes. I live in a world where people freak out and get upset over the fact that I have a dragon finisher. “How dare Anet put me against a rank 80!?” But I still lose 75% of my games, frequently with scores of 500-150

I live in a world where I can’t evaluate the game flow anymore. Teammates see 3-4 enemies on a point on the minimap, they run in and die 4v1. The match starts and people rush lords, or go 4 man to Svanir, leaving me to run from a 3v1 at mid.

I don’t want to put the blame on my teammates. I am not interested in doing that. I just want to know what is going on?

How did I get here? How did I go from having a wonderful competitive experience where I played even games against skilled opponents and struggled to come out ahead on a nightly basis to this?

Is my MMR from the old system so high that the game is somehow expecting me to carry that hard? Is anyone else experiencing this? Has it gotten better? Was my unlucky streak at the beginning so bad (5 or 6 games) that it tanked my new rating permanently?
