Lionguard Lyns gone - not a fair warning?

Siliconhobbit.4361

I hate to dredge up an old thread with some bad news but the announcement about Lionguard Lyns leaving was posted back in the January 28th Game Update Notes, under the World Polish – Other section:

  • Lionguard Lyns has returned to Lion’s Arch but no longer has Black Lion Keys available. Donations toward the rebuilding of Lion’s Arch will continue to be accepted until late February, at which time Lionguard Lyns must return to her normal Lionguard duties. Liquidate those Captain’s Commendations while you can.

In addition, Linsey Murdock posted a reply in this thread ’about a month ago’:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Lionguard-Lyns-not-back-yet-merged-threads/page/2

Stating:

“Lionguard Lyns will be returning in the end of January build without the Black Lion Keys in her inventory. She will then remain up for everyone to liquidate their Commendations and will likely be leaving entirely after about a month.”

So I hate to break it to all of you but the information has been available for quite some time. Gotta keep up with current events on the forums if you want stay ahead.

Upcoming WvW Updates:

in WvW

Siliconhobbit.4361

Colin,

Thank you very much for the update. I look forward to the coming changes and hope that we all see continual changes and updates in the future beyond what you have laid out here that will make WvW more interesting and enjoyable.

One thing that I wanted to ask you about, which was not detailed above or alluded to in regards to future content changes and updates, is the Commander Badge.

Can we expect to see an overhaul of this item any time soon or at least some tweaks to make it a bit more worth the 100 gold price tag?

I for one would like to see this badge become account wide rather then bound to a single character. While I greatly enjoy playing my Elementalist in WvW (the one character I have with the Commander Badge) I find myself NOT playing WvW with my Guardian for the sole reason that I do NOT have a badge on that character.

I love WvW but it is much harder to coordinate battlefield tactics with my guild and keep everyone together while playing on my Guardian simply because I have no badge on him. And before anyone tells me…a 2nd badge is simply not something I can afford…any time soon…or even possibly ever. The badge I have on my Elementalist was given to me by my guild for Commanding via player donations.

Some changes/additions to the badge I would like to see is some more map useable icons as well as a more semi-permanent drawing option.

Being able to see ALL members of the squad on the map as a colored dot, no matter their distance from me would also be something desirable.

In addition to those suggestions, I think all commanders could benefit from the ability to ‘lock’ and ‘unlock’ the squad itself, giving us the ability invite and remove players from the squad if necessary.

Anyways, thank you again for the update. It is much appreciated.

Sounds like a challenge to me. If I had the ‘head’ for the TP numbers game and I played the market on a daily basis I’d be extremely tempted to write up that 10 page abstract and summary details.

If I were you I WOULD write that up and see what kind of nibbles I get from John Smith.

On a side note: I do not believe for one moment that you wouldn’t like this one bit if you were given 2000 gold for this endeavor.

I would have to agree with Michael in this case. You need to keep in mind the Global community here and what a name like that might mean to other players. You clearly seem to be aware of what the word means in your native language and what the word means to others of differing nationalities. Choosing to use the word in this case offended someone and rightly so they reported the name. Thus you received a 72 hour suspension.

I’ll bet my GW2 account you will not receive an appeal in this case.

Ya know. Ascended gear doesn’t drop like rain in this game. I cannot log into Lion’s Arch and have Ascended gear piling up at my feet. I cannot walk to the nearest tree and just pick the items I need off it’s branches.

Ascended gear comes from 2 places only so far: Fractals and the Mystic Forge

From levels 1 to 9 in Fractals you will NOT GET ANY Ascended Gear drops. None. Nothing. Nada. Nil, Zero.

From levels 10-19 on EVEN levels only like 10, 12, 14, etc etc you have a ONCE A DAY CHANCE to get an Ascended Ring. If you do 10 of those dailies you can trade in 10 shards or whatever for a ring.

From level 20+ I THINK you can acquire weapons. I don’t know. I haven’t progressed past level 17.

You can craft an Ascended Back Piece from the Mystic Forge. This doesn’t come cheap…AT ALL.

The game has NO OTHER Avenues for acquiring Ascended Gear. Ascended ARMOR doesn’t even exist.

Oh wait…I forgot that Ascended Gear is BiS gear. AMG! I HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW. Best in slot gear? You are worried about acquiring best in slot gear in which more then likely you will ONLY have 2 items. 1 Ring and 1 Back Piece. Do these 2 items REALLY make that much of a difference to your spec that you have to be paranoid about it?

Why are you causing such a ruckus about gear that essentially does nothing for you except protect you from the Agony Mechanic which is only found in FRACTALS?

The gear you have acquired will suffice for as long as it needs. You did well to complete this armor set and you will NOT be replacing it wholesale any time soon. Or any time in the next 6 months for that matter.

Now go back to playing the game and enjoying it.

PS: I haven’t forgotten the fact that in the entire scope of Ascended Gear, there will be a LARGE gap…at SOME point. But right now…the gap is miniscule and worrying about acquiring the gear over your regular exotic set now is just silly.

Worry about an entire set of Ascended gear when ALL OF THAT GEAR is finally available….Not now.

Full refund for snowflake exploiters?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Siliconhobbit.4361

It’s funny you know. I’m not a TP Day Trader, Night Trader or any kind of Trader. I do not have the head for the kind of mass trading that goes on and charts and statistics and market trends just confuse the heck out of me. I spend my day playing the game, grinding here and there and selling what I come up with for a few coins now and then. I can probably count on 10 gold in my bank at any one time and the most I have ever seen was 40 gold after saving diligently for several weeks.

I rarely if ever craft anything. I find crafting to be expensive and frankly boring. I do not like the idea of farming for mats to make things that people will never buy, and aside from Jewelcrafting, I find no use for any other crafting skill in the game. I have 400 Jewelcrafting because I know that when I make a new toon, I cam make myself jewelry. I do not learn new recipes and I have no desire to find and/or learn holiday recipes as they provide no bonus to any of the level 80 characters I have already.

I SAW the posts on the forums and on Reddit about the Snowflake stuff. I looked into it, read up on it and thought about it. I eventually decided that I wasn’t going to try to do it. NOT because I thought it was an exploit. In fact…the thought that it was an exploit had not EVER crossed my mind. I decided not to do it because it required me to craft and use the Mystic Forge and the Trading Post. All of which confuse me to no end and I would rather be playing the game then standing in front of a vendor for any significant amount of time.

HAD I decided to do the whole Snowflake thing…it seems to me now…that I probably would have been banned and I would have been extremely angry at ANet. I would also have been called an exploiter by the community. I would have had my account taken from me for doing something that Anet decided after the fact was an exploit that I would have had not even the slightest inclination that it was.

So…whats funny to me about this entire situation is because I’m ‘dumb’ when it comes to the economy of GW2, ‘dumb’ when it comes to market trends, ‘dumb’ because Trading confuses the heck out of me, and ‘dumb’ because I abhor crafting, I saved myself from being banned for doing something that I had no idea would have been an exploit.

So…what about all of the players out there who are like me? Average Joe player who is poor most of the time, doesn’t play the market or can’t but greatly enjoys the game? We see something that could make us some cash and decide that we could use some extra money. We do not have the where-withal to even think that what we are doing is an exploit, but never-the-less, in the end, we are banned?

Perhaps for once in my life, my own stupidity saved me. Go figure.

I can confirm that while holding down the ALT, CTRL or SHIFT key on the keyboard and pressing the Mouse 4 thumb button on my mouse to use the Swap Weapons bind does not work.

'Pin' Achievement Progress to UI

in Suggestions

Posted by: Siliconhobbit.4361

Siliconhobbit.4361

I thought of something today that I would like to see available to us sometime in the future.

We have a lot of achievements available to acquire. However, if we ever need to see the progress of any achievement we need to open up the Hero Panel and switch to the Achievements tab. Often times the achievement we are looking for is buried somewhere amongst the hundreds of available achievements and we may not know which sub-tab actually has the achievement on. This makes it a bit time consuming when you are actively working on an achievement or a group of achievements and have to keep manually going back to the Hero Panel/Achivement Tab to check on your progress.

I propose a simple solution for real-time achievement tracking on our main UI. A small thumbtack/pin button next to each and every achievement will allow us to ‘pin’ the progress bar to our main UI.

You can see in the examples below what I mean. I’ve chosen this month’s ‘Monthly Achievement’ as our example to actively track on our UI.

Pic #1 shows the Achievement Tab with a small thumbtack right next to the achievement name. In this case: Intrepid Explorer

Once the thumbtack has been selected, the achievement we want to track is ‘pinned’ to the main UI. This we can see in our mock-up UI in the next pic.

And there we have it. The Achievement we want to track, or Achievements (if we want to track more than 1. I suggest a limit of 5-10) is placed on our main UI and actively progresses as we work on the achievement.

Thank you

WvW Bug - Cannot Remove Player From Team

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Siliconhobbit.4361

Siliconhobbit.4361

I am sure that everyone else has this problem as well:

You and your friends are in WvW. You have a full team and one of them needs to log off for the night. They log off WITHOUT leaving team first yet they remain IN the team and you have no way to remove them. All you see is a blacked-out character portrait.

Now you have no way to actually REMOVE them from the team. Right clicking their name while in WvW only gives you the option to ‘Report’ them and no option to kick them from the team is given.

In order to actually remove them from team you have to have everyone in the team drop team and then reform it OR leave WvW so you can kick the logged off player from the team.

Can we get this fixed please?

Inviting to Party WHILE in WvW - Problems

in WvW

Posted by: Siliconhobbit.4361

Siliconhobbit.4361

Is it just me or does everyone else have a problem inviting players to a team whilst IN a WvW Borderland or in Eternal Battlegrounds?

OUTSIDE of WvW I never have a problem inviting anyone to a Team. All I have to do is right click their name in chat or even in the Guild Roster and I can ‘Invite to Party’.

INSIDE of WvW, every-time I try to invite anyone to a team via right clicking their name in chat or from their character portrait the only option I get is the ‘Report’ option. This is the same result if I try and invite from the Guild Roster as well.

The ONLY way I am able to invite anyone into a Team while in WvW is to actually type out the invite, like so: /invite playername

I have to do this with every single player that i would like to have in my team.

Is this a bug or is this working as intended? This would seem like an awfully inefficient way to invite anyone to a Team for WvW.

I have also been told that a way to avoid this problem is to add people to my friends list then I will be able to invite them to team via right clicking their name in chat, even in WvW. This option is highly inefficient as I have A LOT of guild mates who WvW and A LOT of guild-mates in general. Adding them ALL to my friends list would just be silly.

Just an update.

After approx. 2 months with my sound settings at near minimal (all sounds turned off including music, except minimal for combat sounds) I yet again received this sound bug while in WvW.

I was just standing in Bluevale tower attempting to place an arrow cart, no zerg attacking, no massive amount of AOE spells going off around me and suddenly it’s blaring in my ear. I had to restart the game to get it to go away. Luckily there was no queue for WvW at the time.

Go right on doing what you’ve been doing and know that at least from this fellow player, you have no arguments or complaints about your accomplishment.

I suppose the main questions would be:

1 Did you use an email address and password that was unique to your new GW2 account or were they used on any other website, including other MMO’s or fan-sites?

2 Did you purchase GW2 directly from Anet off of the GW2 site or did you use a 3rd party retailer?

3 Before you set up your GW2 account, did you run any anti-virus or Malware scans to ensure your computer was secure?

4 Have you submitted a ticket through the Customer Support system to get your issue resolved?

Take a look at this URL if you still haven’t submitted a ticket: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/How-to-Submit-a-Ticket-Account-Issues-2

The good news is that since you are new to GW2 and haven’t made any characters yet, you won’t have anything missing or deleted.

The bad news is your account may be being used right now to advertise 3rd party gold selling sites, bot farming or exploiting the game. If you haven’t submitted a ticket yet, I would suggest doing so as soon as possible.

So I asked in map chat “Anyone got Ectos missing?”

Reply: New bank tab

I suddenly jumped for joy. I had forgotten I had read that change was in the patch notes and was pleasantly surprised to find them sitting there waiting for me. Along with slots for just about every other item one could possibly collect in the game from crafting. I had hit Deposit Collectables at some point and hadn’t realized that’s where they’d gone to.

THANK YOU ANET for these changes. This clears up SO much inventory and regular bank space. This is awesome and I love it.

Now then…how about we talk about some collections tab storage space for Dungeon Tokens…now THAT would make me jump for joy…again…twice…and squeel with happiness…

There is an article GuildMag here with Colin Johanson on Sept. 28 2011: http://www.guildmag.com/community-interview-with-colin-johanson

In it is posed the question: In the original Guild Wars you were able to zoom all the way till in front of your character to create a sense of a first-person camera. Will you be implementing the same system in Guild Wars 2?

His answer is: "Right now, you cannot do that. The furthest you can zoom in is right up behind your character. The reason why we’ve done that is because we want you to be able to see your character. We think that part of having this personal story and having a strong attachment to your characters, is being able to see your characters and feel a bond with them, having an attachment to them.

There are no plans currently to do a full first person camera view, that does not mean it will not happen between now and release. We are just simply not working on it at right not, and do not currently plan to do that.

We’re playing with all the camera options, we’re still trying to decide what we want to do. For example, one of the new camera features which we put in for the demo, is that all of the giant bosses you fight, the camera actually pulls back further when you’re fighting against them so you can have a better view of the battlefield when you are fighting them. That’s a development to try and respond to the request of some people to see more of what’s going on, we want to feel a better part of these giant boss fights, so that’s a new camera thing we did recently. There certainly might be more camera stuff going forward."

Take it as you will, but personally I feel that their reasoning for no first person view is a poor excuse. Of the majority of games that I have ever played, from first person shooters to action adventure to MMO’s, whether they were online or not, there was always a way to go into first person view. To NOT have that ability in GW2 is an insult to the player base and a slap in the face

While I understand that chat suppression is there to prevent such things like Gold Sellers and trolling spammers…when my chat is suppressed while attempting to do legitimate in game things such as finding teammates…chat suppression makes it near impossible to do.

Can you awesome folks at Anet have a look into the chat suppression rules and maybe make some tweaks to it so the regular folks like myself who are just playing the game normally can avoid chat suppression in cases such as this?

As it is right now there is a large disconnect between many of the players up at higher levels and a large majority of the population still at lower levels. You may be stuck sitting around for a while, while the rest of the community catches up to those levels.

As I have not done any Fractals yet today I am unsure what the changes may have fixed.

Why is Cliffside fractal even still up?

I’ve posted a successful strategy for the Colossus Fractal here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Colossus-Fractal-Successful-Completion-Strat/first#post926017

Of course if your team never GETS the Colossus Fractal during a run, that is a viable strategy as well :P

Colossus Fractal Successful Completion Strat

So as we all know by now the Colossus Fractal is rather messed up. Between the Chanters not spawning or the Fanatics and Veterans infinitely spawning or the seal resetting constantly as well as the Archdiviner’e health, it’s just plain painful.

Well…I am here to say that I think I have the messed up changes figured out.

Completing the Fractal takes patience, a little understanding, and the willingness to run, hide, or disappear.

Start the Fight

Start the fight by killing the Chanters first. Leave all but ONE alone. Let him live and then attack the Archdiviner. If you kill the Chanters surrounding him first, he will not aggro. By leaving one alive and then attacking the Archdiviner, it will be alive at 75% of his health so you can use the hammer he drops if he does not spawn mobs during his first invulnerable stage.

After the first seal hit when he comes out of his invulnerable stage, he will begin to spam an AOE Agony field. This is avoidable at maximum range but can be a quick killer if you get hit more then once in a row. You’ll find this ability in Fractals above level 10. Below that level you will not have to worry about it.

Stage Two

At this point things will seem to be going well. Trust not your surroundings however. As soon as he gets to 50% and goes invulnerable again he will begin infinitely spawning Fanatics. At this point all heck will break loose. Your BEST bet at this point is to reset him by dying. If you all die the seal will reset as well as his health. HOWEVER, the main point here is to get the GATE open where you entered. Once he and the seal are reset, the gate stays open for the remainder of the fight.

Stage Three

Once everything is reset you’ll notice that the room is filled with mobs. They will continue to spawn even after you kill them. At this point your objective is to use the Hallway that the open Gate now allows access to to cull NPC’s while you DPS the Archdiviner. Use them and his hammer to break the seal and then go back to the Hallway and kill NPCs while kiting the Archdiviner back and forth.

Important Points to Note

  • If your ENTIRE team dies and you have to reset back to the Waypoint, the seal will be fully repaired and the Archdiviner’s health will reset to full, thus making you start over from the beginning.
  • While you are culling NPCs in the hallway and kiting the Archdiviner it is important to make sure no matter HOW BAD IT GETS, SOMEONE needs to live so that they can rez any dead party members. In doing so, the seal will never reset back to full and you can continue to use the hammer on it to whittle it down.
  • The hallway is KEY to getting past this fight. By using it to your advantage you can pull a minimal amount of mobs into it and kill them as the Archdiviner runs back and forth.
  • ASH LEGION SPY KITS can be used to drop aggro and save members of your party. Get them as SOON as you can. They provide 10 seconds of invisibility and will allow u to reset the mobs if things get to hot and heavy.
  • When you get the seal down to next to nothing, as in it looks like the seal has NO HEALTH LEFT, all it needs is a little DPS from an AOE and it will be destroyed. This is the ONLY time the seal can ever take any normal player damage from spells and attacks.
  • Everything mentioned here is the best way I have found to get past this heavily bugged Fractal. While I hate the fact that we have to use tactics and strategies that I am SURE are unintended, until this fractal is fixed properly, there is no reason why this fractal should be a team killer and stop you from progressing.

To the guys and gals working on the fixes for this Fractal, I hope that this information can be used to finally fix the problems this Fractal is experiencing. I’m sure you’ll get it right and everything will go back to being good again. Thank you

On a side note: Since I find all of the Cultural Armor hideous in appearance, as well as ALL of the Faction specific armor I have no worries on spending cash for these items. I won’t and never will. I find normal dropped armor skins, crafted armor skins and token armor skins far more interesting and unique then the aforementioned Cultural and Faction armor skins.

With all of the stuff that’s currently available from drops, karma and tokens I have given my characters unique looks that suit the style and attitude of each one, figuratively speaking.

No its not, I love the grind for the gold. It gives me a sense of character progression.

When the day comes that grinding for gold IS considered character progression in GW2, you’ll see me quit this game.

Karka farming for fun and profit

Honestly…the only real reason to go to Southsun Cove is to mine Orichalcum nodes. There is no there reason to go there as this area provides nothing of any use what-so-ever.

In my opinion the dynamic events are a waste of time or bugged, Karka’s are annoying to kill unless you are a Mesmer and there are no other mobs in the area worth farming. I have a more enjoyable AND profitable time going to any of the Orr zones or Frostgorge Sound then I do Southsun Cove.

Of course this is just my opinion. Take it as you will.

Tactical Formation viability?

in WvW

Posted by: Siliconhobbit.4361

Siliconhobbit.4361

I haven’t tried formations yet. While I assume it would be possible there are several factors that one must take into account before attempting such maneuvers.

  • Voice Coms: Everyone in a formation is going to have to be on some sort of voice coms or there is no viability in attempting it
  • Runspeed: It’s near impossible to get everyone running at the same speed since there are so many different spells at each classes’ hand for increasing it. If there was a ‘Follow’ function that allowed players to follow someone else at one set speed, this could make formations more viable.
  • Skills & Abilities: Formations are only effective if you can coordinate certain classes activating certain skills all at the same time. For example front line Guardians with shields activating ‘Shield of Absorption’ first to push back the enemy advance followed up with mid-formation Guardians activating ‘Line of Warding’ to make sure they DON’T advance with Elementalists activating ‘Flame Wall’ for the rest of the formation to fire projectiles through at the enemy. This is just one example as there are hundreds of combinations.
  • Discipline: Getting any number of players into a formation requires a certain amount of discipline. Fighting the urge to hunt down individuals who peel off from the main group can be difficult at times. Advancing as a formation steadily and with conviction can be even more difficult.

All in all I think that getting a formation to actually be effective can be a difficult process. While I do think it can be done, the current state of combat and WvW makes it extremely difficult. The only two current viable formations that seem to work well right now and ARE effective to certain degrees are ‘Stacking’ and ‘Portal Bombs’. Both unique to GW2 WvW.

Bad heal fix

No, it says “players’ minions and NPCs”

That means the ones YOU own, not the random NPCs that may be accompanying you.

No matter what the change was, a clear clarification needs to be made on this change.

Does this mean when I am solo that heals and boons apply to my minions and NPC’s?

Does this mean that all heals and boons that I cast apply to minions and NPC’s first over players that may be with me in my team?

Was this indeed a typo?

I totally agree with this. I care not about NPCs and minions….Why would I ever want my heals to heal them first over my own teammates.

Is there any explanation to this completely off the wall change?

Bots are back? (Observed through the TP)

in Black Lion Trading Co

IMO Bots never left to begin with. While yes, Anet has banned thousands of bots recently and will continue to do so, the only thing that has happened to them now is they have gone underground, figuratively AND literally.

One can easily search the internet and find any number of hacking programs that allow the user to exploit the game in any number of ways, including teleport hacks.

I’m of the opinion that this is the case with many bots now. On top of running a bot program that runs a specific route based upon coordinates these programs now include (or originally included) teleport hacks that are being used exclusively.

Before when we were all able to observe hundreds of bots on a weekly basis, they were easy to spot and easy to report. One can only assume that with a large majority of the player-base actively reporting them, they were easy to find and easy to get rid of by Anet.

Since then, bot-farmers have smartened up and gone stealth. Now they teleport from location to location, appearing only briefly to farm a resource node or kill something if necessary, to instantly teleport away when they are finished.

We all can see these bots but only briefly. Their appearance is fleeting, thus keeping them hidden and making it far harder for us to report unless we expect the event and can quickly report them in the brief moments they are actually visible.

Beyond that, any of the bots that are actively running coordinate routes and still actively visible are doing so in far away places that aren’t frequented by players that often, such as the Skritt tunnel at Ebonhawke.

Bots are still around, make no mistake. They are just being more sneaky then before.
