Dragonhunter BW1 Feedback Thread

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Generally, I enjoyed the Dragonhunter. I’m a PvE player mainly and I’d call myself casual hardcore (I’ve experienced casual players, who’ve played since launch but are still “diamonds in the rough” ), but I’m not so hardcore that I will tell the devs how to change the mechanics. I’ll leave the tweaking and detail discussing to some of the more “invested” players.

My overall experience with the Dragonhunter so far has been great. I think it’s a fun spec to play. I control the battlefield, lure enemies into my traps, deflect projectiles (new virtues are great), and I “spread my wings and fly away” (as far as they’ll take me – could use a range increase, I’d say).
- It’s a welcome addition to my Guardian’s repetoir, and one I think I’ll enjoy for a long time. I like the animations, I like the sounds of the skills and I love how the spec plays (I did see a comment above stating that the bow had an annoying sound, although I haven’t noticed that myself).
- I’m looking forward to see how it plays at the release of HoT, not to mention future beta weekends.

Kudos to Warangel Eldrith for some suggestions for improvements, and also to any and all that take the time to contribute.
- I trust ANet to sort out the good from the bad (and the truly ugly) suggestions.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to hunt some dragons.

Gem Store vs. Content

For everything that you do not want in the gemstore someone else wants to exclude something else. If Anet is going to make everyone who wants something out of the gemstore happy they would have to remove everything.

How would YOU personally make up for the loss of revenue if this item was withheld from the gemstore ? Lets say a thousand people would have paid ten dollars each for the set. How would YOU make up the loss of ten thousand dollars ? Not Anet, YOU?

I would have sold an expansion every year and put fun content in it that rewarded these things. People would then hopefully buy the expansions every year because they know there is all this fun content in them. Eventually I might have even earned more by selling the game and expansion on yearly base.

I don’t believe that Anet could make an expansion a year. This isn’t Guild Wars 1. Things aren’t pathed. Dynamic events are not quests.

You realize you need roughly three times as many dynamic events as you do quests to population a zone, right?

I agree with Vayne on this one.
- I’d rather not get a bug infested expansion each year.

An alternative to it could be that the Living Story seasons would lead up to something significant in size. Something that wouldn’t be the size of an expansion, but still larger than your average LS content – sort of a mini-expansion.

And I’m eager to see if they can increase efficiency on the LS side of things. Eight episodes in Season 2, although great, wasn’t enough content for over half a year.
- And yes, I’m aware that they also did the feature packs, but I hope they can increase the effeciency with the LS – and the time between expansions as well.

There’s nothing stopping them from making an even better set of similar armor when that day comes.

- Have you seen this thing? And this is the GW1 version.

I hope they can top it, if they do decide to bring back Menzies in GW2 (I like how you said “when the day comes.” ).

So you state an opinion (aka you dont want this in the gem store), and then you demand that people refrain from using the most common argument against your opinion (aka anet needs to make money somewhere)?

Awesome way to start a discussion.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Costume
- They have many other outfits from GW1 they could make, some of which actually has the God-theme.

I’m “demanding” that they should consider some of the potential content that would fit well with the Balthazar set (and that they not only have Menzies, but also Dhuum as a potential boss battle).
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Dhuum_concept_art.jpg
Menzies had his shadow army, the darknessess and Abyssals.

Simply put: Make the other six outfits (or just the Balthazar themed) from GW1 instead and wait with this one, till you have the proper content for it – it’s simply too awesome for everyone to just buy and wear it.

The god ‘armors’ where costumes in GW1 previously. I am not surprised to see them come back as such in GW2 (and I like the job they did on Balth this time around so much better).

Yes, I know of the costumes we had there, however, the designs we see here are not the same as those.

It would be nice to have the old outfits come back, but I’d also like for Menzies and Dhuum (and possibly new enemies associated with Dwayna, Lyssa, Melandru and Kormir) to return and reward us with the “new” sets (possibly as outfits, if that is easier for ANet to make).

As I’ve already said, I didn’t “expect” Menzies or Dhuum to return any time soon or the Avatar of Balthazar outfit, but I always thought that if I ever saw the armor in the game, it would be as reward for defeating Menzies.
- It would be a nice way to “end” those story arcs.

There is also the possiblity that ANet have a plot for the Gods – they have remained silent for a long time, so who knows, there may actually be some content intended to explain further that we’ve yet to discover.
- Still, a Dhuum and Menzies bossfight would be epic.

OP this thread is based solely on your expectations which you created in your mind without any evidence that that would happen.

And you created that sentence in your mind, without any knowledge of what my expectations were, exactly.

I never really expected to see this set or Dhuum or Menzies.
- GW2 didn’t seem to swing that way.

Seeing the armor set though and hearing that it would probably simply be an outfit in the Gem Store, since it has been made as one whole and not different parts of a set, discouraged me, even though you might say I got half of what I wanted.

- I thought it would be an obvious choice to have Menzies return and have this Balthazar armor as a reward for some content that revolved around the Fissure of Woe (even though Menzies whereabouts are unknown, so he might not even be there).
- And having Dhuum return and have Grenth’s armor as a reward for some Underworld content? Felt sort of given, to me. (And if one set gets the Gem Store treatment, then it is more likely that the other one would as well – and eventually, all the sets as seen in the concept art of the Gods).

Sure, I “expected” that if I ever saw the armor of (well, in this case) the Avatar of Balthazar in GW2, then it would be as a reward for defeating Menzies or some such.
- That it goes in the Gem Store would suggest that neither Menzies nor Dhuum will return, or at least that if Grenth’s set makes it into the game, then it will be through the Gem Store.

- They’ve put armor sets in the Gem Store before, I know that.
But the potential this particular set has for the return of Menzies and the Fissure of Woe makes it hard for me to overlook that they prioritize the Gem Store over the content, which in turn makes me feel that whenever I see something that could potentially lead to some awesome content, they will scrap the content and put what would have been an obvious choice for a reward in the Gem Store instead.

- To me, it’s a question of whether or not ANet can see and realize the potential that lies in different parts of their game world and lore.
I don’t think I need to explain that I feel that this move (if they indeed are going to do that. It’s not “confirmed” officially) is an example of wasted potential.

I’d like to see that I’m not wasting my time with the game, and that they can make compelling content (Dhuum and Menzies was compelling to me – though not as a campaign, just a part of the whole GW2 experience) and deliver.

You have to learn one thing, GW1 lore made sense and was awesome in GW1 while most of it makes no sense in GW2. Simply because GW2 is another game with the same name and nothing more.

It’s not far out or impossible to have Dhuum or Menzies return.
- There is the issue of the Gods suddenly cutting all contact.

It could be that ANet has another idea or plot in mind, which stand in the way of things.

Has been tried and dismissed as not working. Players as a whole have a tendency to go the path of least resistance. If you allow for every boss to give the same kind of token, people will just figure out the easiest boss, farm the dungeon (or whatever you want to call it) up to that boss, and abandon the rest.

There’s a reason why current dungeons in this game give most tokens (except for an occasional 3 along the way) after finishing the path …

Coming back to the op, I don’t really mind which outfits go into the store and which can be won/purchased/whatever in-game. That will always be subjective, since what to one player is the most legendary outfit (either visual, lore-wise. or both) another player might well be indifferent to.

I enjoy moving along the luminescent collections on my occasional outings into the Silverwastes, or gathering resources for the ambrite weapons when I’m in Dry Top, and hope to see more of this kind of aquisition method (preferably for outfits as well as armor, as I love the freedom of changing my characters clothes on the fly).

I don’t really care if the visuals are based on some human gods or not. As a non-GW1 player and not playing humans in GW2 (asura ftw) I don’t really have any connection to those gods anyway.

Yes, I’m aware of the infinite lazyness of the players here.
- It was simply to throw an idea out there of how it could be done (and there is also designing around cheating ones way through – only one token will be dropped per day by each boss, for instance – but then players would take the few easy ones, leave the rest. Yeah, I hear you).

But let us say that they have some potential content that would tie more into the asurans and their background or their ancient civilization and yield some neat rewards and simply see the rewards put in the Gem Store, then?
- Basically, I just want to be able to delve deeper into their world and lore and find some cosmetic rewards for different content I bump into while searching, which serves as a “souvenir” of “Oh yeah, I went to the Fissure of Woe” or “Oh yeah, I found and explored an ancient underground asuran city” – something that I can take with me from my adventures.
- Not having every last one of those be “Oh yeah, that was in the Gem Store some years back.”

- And yes, by all means, put some armors or weapons in the Gem Store, but save some of the good ones as reward for actual content. Rampart or Phalanx armor? Very neat for my Guardian or Warrior (or Revenant… soon). Sure, I’ll buy!
- But Balthazar outfit in Gem Store and a quaggan backpack for defeating Menzies? I’m not quite there yet.

Hope you get the point, even though you may not agree, mate.
(And read up on Dhuum! He’s an awesome character – Grenth usurped his position, but Dhuum was never defeated. Not to mention the concept art? It’s sweet)

I asked how you would make up the difference, not how Anet would. Are you willing to give the company tens of thousands of dollars of your money?

making a new product in the form of sets/content does not make up for revenue lost on a previous costume. Even if Anet did produce additional sets/content they would not have the revenue from the set you are asking them to give for free instead of selling.

I’m asking for them to make the content that these sets are the perfect setup to, and use the ones that we’ve been able to buy before.
- I hope you’re not suggesting that ANet should stop ever making content with some form of cosmetic reward – and the whole “Then pay them all those thousands of dollars, if you don’t like it!”? Just drop it, it’s not an argument (and if you seriously think it is, I’m not going to bother with you – I gave you six other armor sets for the Gem Store and suggest the other six be put in the game. It’s not supposed to all go in the Gem Store. How would you make up for the loss of revenue from the dungeon sets, or the Ascended armor sets? There has to be a balance between what goes in the Gem Store and what doesn’t. Usually, when there is a lot of content potential in items, you’d want to make more content for the players to stick around for).

Producing playable content is also important. If every and all potential content was scrapped, but the reward kept and put in the Gem Store, I wouldn’t be playing this game.
- I don’t buy gems or Gem Store items for them to produce more Gem Store items for me to buy. I buy gems and Gem Store items to support them and for them to expand their world and game, and produce more content for me (and us all) to play.
- They produced content through the Living Story and the feature packs and although it was far from without flaws, I can appreciate when a company tries something new, so I made some purchases in the Gem Store to support them.

As stated, it is not that I’m against them putting armors in the Gem Store or that “I want it for free” – I want it as a reward for the content it would fit so obviously well with. Many of the armors in the Gem Store has no historical value or obvious potential content tied to it, so I don’t mind that in there.
- But where there is potential, I’d like to see that ANet are capable of utilizing it, so I know that the potential that is in the game (because GW2 has so much more potential than what we’ve already gotten – looking forward to HoT) is going to be realized and not just scrapped and put in the Gem Store.

And Panites:
- First of all, the PvP players have their reward tracks. They can get their dungeon skin by choosing that reward track. It’s been there, still is, so no, no exclusion for the PvP’ers (Balthazar is equal to PvP for many GW veterans).

Secondly, I’d like for the content to strike a nice balance between that difficulty scale. I’d say some form of “dungeon” like content that leads up to it. The Fissure of Woe could be a new open area. As for Menzies, it is unknown where he is exactly, though some theorize that Ravenheart Gloom in the Domain of Anguish is a possiblity, since some of his minions were located there in GW1.

I would like it to be through a bossfight or stuff collected from the Fissure of Woe, but I’m inclined to say that the hourlong hunt/grind through content that only the most hardcore of players enjoy isn’t what I’m after here.
- Rather something along the lines of the dungeon sets, but it should require a bit more from the player than just that.
- Maybe if each boss fight leading up to Menzies, and Menzies himself, had some sort of “defeat without <insert challenge>” that would yield in a special token that would be required to get it.
That way you wouldn’t just go through the dungeon only to fail at the last boss. There’d be potential for each fight to reward you with a token (some challenges easier than others) and thus, if you were “hardcore” you might get all tokens in one go, and be able to buy a piece of the armor. Or, if you were casual, you might get one or two in a run and have to do it a few more times before you got a hold of the entire set.

It would be one way of doing it.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Agent_of_Balthazar.png
- They could remake and sell this set in the Gem Store. It was the “Balthazar set” in the first game. There are sets for each of the gods. It would be awesome to see those in the Gem Store instead and have the content for the other more detailed ones.

I personal couldn’t give a kitten about lore or about the gods, i care about my character. This is a cool outfit and i’m willing to buy it because it looks cool and you can swap to them AT ANYTIME.

I usually play my games for the gameplay and and the content. Not the cash shop.
- Used to be that your character’s gear would also be a way of showing/reminding you of his/her progression. What they’d gone through. – For others, the character is a wandering trophy.

I’d like to have the Balthazar set as a reminder of having ventured through the Fissure of Woe or of having defeated Menzies.
- I don’t consider simply buying a set for my character to “care” for my character. I’m making him work for it.
To each their own, I suppose. I just don’t get the “I’d rather be shopping than gaming” mindset. Especially since we buy our games to “play” them.

- As said, I don’t mind them putting in armor and weapon in the Gem Store or buying them, it’s simply that they have a setup of lore from GW1 that they could go for along with this set, and I don’t understand why they wouldn’t, if the armor set is coming into the game anyway. We’d get more GW2 along with it.

OP this thread is based solely on your expectations which you created in your mind without any evidence that that would happen. Costumes in Guild Wars 1 were like outfits here and they were sold through the gem store there. Reasonably, one would assume they would be sold the same way here.

I didn’t really expect the return to Menzies and Dhuum (to take the two examples that would go well with a God-like armor set as a reward for completion).
- I am well aware that we don’t have an official “We here at ANet are going to make this content.” – My “acting out” or thread is me telling and asking the community, don’t you feel this is a waste?
(Why not make the god-themed outfits that were sold in the first game and wait with these for some appropriate content to go along with it?)
- I could also argue that we have dungeon sets in GW2, which we didn’t have in GW1, so your point about the ones in GW1 being sold in the “Gem Store” equivalent there is well taken, but without any real significance.

I didn’t get a unique armor set for defeating the Underworld in the first Guild Wars 1 game.

You could get this? http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dhuum%27s_Soul_Reaper
- It’s something.

You’re taking your expectations and trying to make them sound like they’re reasonable because to you they are. But they go against what’s already been done.

I get your point. But I do find it reasonable to give my two cents (or in this case, two posts, since this is my second) about an alternative that could present us with some neat lore that still has some relevance for us 250 years later in Tyria.
- Dhuum was never defeated. Neither do we know the fate of Menzies (or at least, not to my knowledge – Feel free to enlighten me, if I’m incorrect here).

Your support of the gem shop is completely 100% not related to this issue. If you like the game and choose to support the game, that’s a personal choice. You support it for what’s out at that time, not what you think they sorta might maybe do in the future. That’s not a reasonable position.

If you don’t like what the company is doing, you’re certainly free to stop supporting them. But past support doesn’t entitle you to make policy. You either like the game and support it or you don’t. That’s up to you.

It is true that I supported it at the given time because I like it. Or rather, I see much potential, and would like to support the dev team so that they can realize that potential, so I could argue that while not 100% related, a lot of why I help them is so that the game can have a future.
- When I support GW2, I do so because I would like to help them create more content. And sure, I have my expectation of what could come and what I’d like to see.
- I found the content with Menzies and Dhuum to be sort of given, and if these sets were to make it into the game, then for them to be a reward for defeating these powerful god-like enemies.
- I support GW2 and hope to see intriguing content, but when something with real potential just slips right into the Gem Store, I’m starting to have some doubts.
- Even if the fight against Menzies and Dhuum came, what rewards would there be for defeating them? Anything that could top these sets?

As stated, if they would make god-themed armors, why not just remake the ones they sold in the first game, put them in the gem-store and make some proper content with these other ones?
- Then we’d get both Gem Store and in-game content, and I’d personally be more than happy to support.

And I’m not trying to make policy. As you said, I’m not entitled to that, but I’m entitled to share my opinion with them and with the community.
- And it is my heartfelt wish that they consider carefully what to put in the Gem Store and what could be so much more in the form of content.

Npc outfit? Imagine the rage.
- I would have expected Menzies and Dhuum to make a return, and all the other outfits the gods are wearing here to be obtainable through some seriously hard bossfights: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Gods_of_Tyria_Avatars.png

Grenth style armor: Defeat Dhuum!
Balthazar style armor: Defeat Menzies!
- And so on for the other gods as well.
I don’t get how they couldn’t be excited about making that at ANet.

How about Mursaat wings as a backpiece for defeating Lazarus the Dire?

Because people demanded the ability to actually effect the storyline? :P

Touché!
But I think people meant their characters’ storylines, and make choices that actually matter for them. Imagine if we, with Destiny’s Edge 2.0, got the same dilemma as Logan. We could stay and fight Mordremoth or go help old friends or loved ones (I know that’s far out in an MMO, yes).

Well I bought 2 Outfits in GW1 because I wanted to support the game and the development of GW2.
The first outfits came 2009, that was like 2 years after their last release (EotN).
Also at that point we were under the illusion that the gemstore would only feature cosmetic items.

And now? I don’t buy outfits at all, they are lazy, they remove the “get creative” part of armors and they still have clipping issues. Funnily enough I’m sitting on 800gems for like 2 months now because they haven’t added anything worthwhile (like armorsets).

There are items of no historical value, which simply looks nice. I have no problem seeing those as Gem Store items and as a source of revenue for the devs.
- Then there are items such as the Balthazar armor set that presents a setup for some seriously awesome dungeons, open world boss fight area or just in general some amazing content.

I can’t help but feel this is a waste of potential.
- I didn’t buy the other non-historical-valued ones just so the ones that presents awesome opportunities for ANet to be simply Gem Store items as well.

Your comment… it’s just a flesh wound… nothing fatal… ugh…

Yeah, I’m aware of the pace of which GW2 is moving.

If the content never arrives… if the potential is wasted? Then I’m worried whether or not I’ll stick with GW2… and I’ve been here since the open betas, played GW1 as well.

OK, two things I need you people to understand:

  1. I’d love to buy gems and armor sets in the Gem Store to support ANet. I’m not against that. Actually, I’m for it. My Guardian is using the Phalanx armor, which I find very nicely designed. No problem there.
  2. I always hoped this armor set would make it into GW2. All of the Gods armor set as seen in this picture http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Gods_of_Tyria_Avatars.png.
    - However, I’ve supported ANet in the hopes that when armor sets such as these, with lore and story behind it, would make it into GW2, there would be some awesome content (like the Fissure of Woe) that you’d have to overcome in order to receive it.

I expected the Fissure of Woe in GW2 and I expected the return of Dhuum.
- This move, however, makes me fear that whenever some absolutely amazing items that could have tied lore and expanded the GW universe shows up in the game, it will end up in the Gem Store.

If ANet haven’t got the money to make the Fissure of Woe or the Underworld, to basically expand their universe and make awesome and entertaining, then why am I playing the game? (I am aware the expansion is coming, and you better believe I’m looking forward to it)
- Still, I hope you guys understand my concerns here. I feel it’s wasting potential.

Today I am a spammer… since this is my second post about this Balthazar Outfit!
- I don’t want to hear “ANet needs to make money!” comments, because I already know that, and I don’t mind them putting armors and outfits in the gem store, but this particular Balthazar one http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Avatar_of_Balthazar_model.jpg that is supposedly coming as an outfit?

What would you people prefer?

  • Fissure of Woe and Menzies?
  • Gem Store outfit?

I’ll say it again: This Armor set has too much potential to be in the Gem Store!
- Same goes for all the armor sets of the Gods.
How about the full set of Grenth and introduce Dhuum as a bossfight in the Underworld, the realm of Grenth?

Or how about Margonite themed sets and actually make that Abaddon bossfight in the Plane of Torment? And while we’re at it, why not meet the Lich and Shiro Tagachi in the Plane of Torment as well?

There’s stuff that ANet can put in the Gem Store, and then there’s stuff that has the potential to drive GW2 forward and/or tie in some GW1 lore.

Balthazar Outfit - thanks!!!

Gem Store vs. Content

Didn’t all the GW1 players (and thus fans) obtain the Human God’s Armor (that was released) in GW1 by purchasing it through the GW1 Online Game Store?

I mean, if we are going to follow precedent, it would seem Gem Store would be the way to go.

Personally, I don’t really have a preference to how it is obtained, as Gems or no, I would not likely purchase it with cash.

Good luck on your suggestion, though. =)

I know we had those sets (but after three years in GW1 we also had a lot more)
- But then this isn’t the one we could buy, is it? http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Avatar_of_Balthazar

I’ll repeat!

  • Fissure of Woe!
  • Menzies!

If that isn’t enough to have GW fans say that this armor set is too valuable lore wise, and reward-for-potentially-more-awesome-than-any-content-we’ve-ever-had-in-GW2-wise, then what is?

Gem Store vs. Content

Sinifair.1026

My two best arguments to counter the Gem Store

  • Fissure of Woe!
  • Menzies!
    - Balthazar will grant you this awesome look, but only to those worthy of wearing it! There’s too much potential for content on a whole other level of legendary than we already have! I can’t see why you would choose the Gem Store for this particular item!

Also I am well aware that there were armors inspired by the Gods in GW1 that we could buy, but after three years we also had so much more content in GW1 than GW2 has presented us with – and yes, I know GW2 is a different kind of game.

This armor set is just not something you put in the Gem Store.
- Many of those have been armor sets that haven’t really had any lore relation to the world at all. Sure, we’ve had Rox’s and Braham’s armor sets, but I still consider them to be “skins” or “replicas” of the real ones. I wouldn’t expect a dungeon where I fight Rox and Braham for those, and I’m not going to ask for that.

chemiclord and Ashen – Silly bookahs!
- Fact is that the armor sets already in the Gem Store haven’t had any real lore tied to them, the same way that this set, and all the armor sets of the gods, have.
- Flamekissed? Just some fancy fire effect. Flashy sells! All the armor sets in the Gem Store looks fine. I’ve bought some of them and I am using the Phalanx myself.
- But those armor sets didn’t really have the “This could be an awesome reward for some epic content” the same way that these do.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Avatar_of_Balthazar

They could make 5 or 10 other outfits or armor sets to put on the Gem Store, and I wouldn’t bat an eye. I’m not against them putting things in the Gem Store!
- But this look right here? Balthazar? A God? It deserves better.

They might be legendary to YOU, but not to everyone. What if one person considers profane armor legendary, and another zodiac, and another flamekissed? So all of these would somehow have to be taken out of the gem store, which would lose money, and more people would have to be hired to create new content for them, which would cost even more money.

Doesnt seem likely to happen unless they put in a monthly sub or something to pay for it all, which is even less likely.

Welcome to f2p gaming.

If the armor of the Gods doesn’t attain the status of Legendary, I don’t know what does.

They said they wanted to make Legendary Armors.
- These seem like the optimal choice to me.

GW2 has some neat skins, yeah. Infinite Light is a personal favorite and people have said that it almost deserves Legendary status.
- I am aware of the different opinions but these armors are some of the most worthy of them all.
(Although, if I have to give other examples, their concept art for Margonites and the Chronomancers are also some Legendary-worthy designs)

As I wrote, I get that they need to make money, and I’m not anti-Gem Store.
- The armor set in question is the one that Balthazar is wearing in this concept art of the Gods. If Balthazar’s armor set is in the Gem Store, then if we see the armor sets of the other gods, it will be through the Gem Store.
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/138194/gods_of_tyria__guild_wars_by_RaIKoH696.jpg

If we’re not getting content of a certain magnitude out of such armor sets that seems to demand a certain level of respect, then I do not trust ANet knows how to deal

As for how I’d get that source of revenue, I’d release an expansion… oh wait!
- Seriously though, they could add all sorts of armors and weapons for all I care, but these sets simply deserve better than this.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it.
- The amount of players who were happy with the Balthazar armor set just being an outfit in the Gem Store.
(Disclaimer: It seemed to be the understanding that the set was going to be an outfit in the Gem Store. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. The thread was named “Balthazar Outfit – Thanks!!!” )

tl;dr:
To summarize:

  • Balthazar Armor Set in Gem Store is a waste of potential!
  • The armor worn by the Bookah Gods are in the “Legendary” category!
  • There is too much awesome lore and potential content, dungeon, boss fight or some other that should be tied to rewards of such magnitude as this!

The Actual Post + rants
Just in general, armor sets that are inspired by the GODS themselves are not Gem Store material.
- That is reward-material after doing some content that proves that YOU have what it takes to receive god-like status.

“Don’t like it? Don’t buy it!” – Yeah, I read those comments.
- Fact is, I like it. I absolutely adore that armor set, and I am an advocate for all the armor sets that are displayed with the gods to make it into the game world, however, the Gem store is not the way to go.
- It tells me that at ANet, they cares less about making awesome content to go with the rewards, than they do about making some easy money. And this is easy money, because it’s the Balthazar armor set! Practically every GW fan would want it.

ANet, I beg of you to do these armor sets justice and make some content worthy of having rewards coming straight from the Godly Armoury!
- Otherwise you’re sucking whatever value there was in these sets out of them.

When I tell my friends how I got an armor set like that, how’d you like me to regale them of such an epic tale?

  1. “I vanquished foes of unimaginable power and after overcoming overwhelming odds I was blessed by the Gods with this mighty armor!”
  2. “I bought it..? But seriously, guys, there are other ways to get cool armor sets in GW2! … Guys..?”

My friends weren’t GW1 veterans like myself, and so they are not as invested, thus I’ve mostly played by myself and with guilds that simply dried out, sadly.
- My friends have a rekindled interest in the game after the announcement of an expansion came along.

We all agree that GW2 is a game with the potential to be so much more than it currently is.
- The Balthazar outfit incident here has made them and myself question whether ANet is competent enough to be trusted with the future of this game, since the possibility for actual content of epic proportions along with rewards that are just as epic seems to get a Gem Store treatment, when the game needs more content that seriously challenges the players’ ability to work together and rewards them for overcoming said challenges through cunning use of combo fields, skill and teamwork.

- Need I explain to all of you that these amor sets are in the category of “Legendary”
And you just want it as a Gem Store item instead?!? It doesn’t compute!

And you’re better than that, ANet!
- I get that you need to make money, and I’m not an Anti-Gem-Store fanatic, but there is just too much potential for awesome and incredible content tied to these particular sets. It would be a waste to just have them placed in the Gem Store!

If it is your current course of action, please reconsider!

Balthazar Outfit - thanks!!!

Are ANet really planning on just putting armor sets of such magnitude on the Gem Store instead of making content that is worthy of the awesomeness that comes with possessing these skins?

The armor skin is awesome, no doubt about it. It’s something all GW fans both new and veterans would want.
- Putting it on the Gem Store, however, shows me that they care less about their lore, their world and making good content for it rather than just making some easy money.

I hope for people to protest against the excessive use of the Gem Store and NOT buy it and demand some proper content to go along with obtaining such an awesome item.

There is one major flaw I am finding with the new dailies and that involves the “events in such and such area”. When those events are in a low level area such as Metrica, Caledon Forest, etc. finding an event becomes problematic with a massive zerg running around trying to accomplish the same thing. Last night in Snowden Drifts, was a prime example. The Champion at the Blasted Haven popped up and I was close enough to get the message however he literally melted before I could get close enough to take a hit on him.

Take the “participate in events in such and such a province” dailies and make them more level oriented so if you are level 80 you would have to go to a level 60-80 map to complete it. Putting 100 level 80’s on a low level map is an exercise in frustration.

True enough.
- I also prefer them not being tied to specific locations, though I haven’t had trouble finishing the dailies even when they were.
It is less frustrating when simply tied to an area rather than just one zone, such as “krytan event completer.”

Personally, I like the new dailies, they work very well for me.

Shouldn’t we be allowed to have fun in GW2 the way we always have? With access to the same Achievement rewards that everyone else gets?

It’s not that I don’t get your point. Getting rewarded for the content you enjoy doing? I’m all for it, however, I don’t think that the dailies should reward you for that content.

Your answer is kind of confusing. You are enjoying the new Dailies, therefore you are being rewarded for doing the content you enjoy. Yet you say that I should not get the daily reward for doing the content I enjoy…

He’s saying you picked a plant, congratulations you were rewarded with a cabbage.

You should actually have to do something for the achievements.

Actually, that was taken out of context.
- I’m saying that it is not the job of the daily to reward you for doing the content. When you’ve done the content you enjoy for the length of the daily, then what? Is the content rewarding enough for you to keep playing, or are you only along for as long as the daily you enjoy is active?

What I’m saying is that the dailies are not the core game experience. The content is. And if the content isn’t rewarding you enough, then there’s not a problem with the daily, there’s a problem with the reward given for your time invested.

I meant that it is not the job of the daily to reward you for doing that job.
- If I enjoy doing Dynamic Events then the Daily only rewards me for doing four and then asks me to return the next day.
The reward given for the Dynamic Event itself should be the incentive.

Just as if I enjoy doing dungeons, then it is not because the daily rewards me with something, I’m probably doing it to get the tokens to get the dungeon gear.

- The content you enjoy should reward you for doing it. The daily shouldn’t reward you for doing that content, only give you an incentive to get started.

Personally, I like the new dailies, they work very well for me.
- The Dailies are not hardcore content. It’s meant to introduce the different areas of the game and what there is to do. Events, crafting materials, dungeons along with PvP and WvW, it’s meant to teach new players. It also comes with an incentive for veterans in forms of chests for each completed daily assignment.
- I’m being eased into the PvP and WvW scene, and I’m actually enjoying myself, since I’m not required to stay long, if it’s not my type of content, but I’m enjoying the casual approach I can take to it and still enjoy content I might otherwise not have tried.

That’s great that you are enjoying the changes. I really mean it – I’m glad that you are having fun. But why are you arguing that everyone else should have fun in the same way that you do? Some people do not want to be “eased into the PvP and WvW scene”. Or Fractals or Dungeons or Jumping Puzzles, or Activities, or whichever option each person doesn’t happen to like. Shouldn’t we be allowed to have fun in GW2 the way we always have? With access to the same Achievement rewards that everyone else gets?

I’m not argumenting that people should play my way to get rewards, but that the different task asked of you in the PvE, PvP and WvW areas are casual and a good way to introduce you to them, and offers new players and veterans alike a reason to do them.

It’s not that I don’t get your point. Getting rewarded for the content you enjoy doing? I’m all for it, however, I don’t think that the dailies should reward you for that content. Rather, the reward system for the different contents still needs some tweaking.
- Doing content and feeling the progression for your character and towards your goal is key in any game that wants to keep you invested.

As stated, dailies meant to teach new players some of the core features the game has to offer. An introduction, you might call it. Why there is so much commotion around it, I don’t understand. There are far more serious issues troubling me in GW2 than dailies.
- You’re meant to just try out the different content, and not for very long, either. And the compensation for doing so far outweighs any complaints. We’re getting more for these tasks than ever before, yet people still complain? I think they’ve designed them to get people into the content that was given us to begin with, and where I’ve been, it feels like it did at launch. Crowded areas, players doing events and helping each other out. It’s great. Even the Mega Servers didn’t revive the world as much as these new dailies seem to have done.

The old dailies weren’t really superior in any way, as I remember them, and the new dailies are hardly an issue when compared to the other aspects I’d rather see them improve.
- While there might be things they wish to change or improve, the dailies aren’t an issue at all as they are right now. It’s petty to start complaining about them, I’d say, since they’re such a small part of how or why we play the game anyway.

[Suggestion] Dungeon revamp and ascended gear

Sinifair.1026

AC was revamped a long time ago and although it was technically improved in a number of respects the player base soon reduced it to stack and skip again. The NPCs had been given more a bigger role in the event chains and this just meant they bugged more often. The revamp simply wasn’t worth the design effort, it wasn’t appreciated by the player base, and revamps are unlikely to happen again soon.

No point in asking for ascended loot in dungeons, just go do the top tier group content – fractals. I expect that new group content will eventually come and it will be different from the existing dungeons. Any new ascended loot will probably come in higher level fractals when it finally arrive.

A pity. The idea just popped up the other day, with themed ascended gear for the original dungeons.
I’m wondering whether the big projects ANet has cooking in the background really is an expansion or an expansions worth of content and whether or not it will add to the dungeons (or new dungeons, maybe rather) and Fractals.
- There haven’t been any news about that, have there?
I haven’t had as much time to be a frequenting player recently, so I’m a bit behind on news and all that. Mostly just log in every two weeks for the continued Living Story, that’s all I really got time for, regrettably.

Oh not again…. /sigh
Please read the dungeon FAQ stickied at the top, then get the hell out of here and run some dungeons with a decent party. Make some frands that will help you. If anyone is willing to take you along with such an attitude, that is. I surely ain’t teaching someone that calls me a cheater because I skip a couple of mobs and stack.

Maybe it’s just me, but the fact that he used “cheat” with quotations says that he doesn’t necessarily think that skipping and stacking is cheating. However he does say that the dungeons poor designs allow for that. And while most (read: reasonable) people don’t consider skipping and stacking as cheats, they can agree that the current dungeon mechanics do allow for it, and while it may not be the devs vision for how dungeons should be run, it is the most effecient method for doing dungeons (in some cases).

True, I don’t. After doing these dungeons many times, people simply want efficiency, which for many PUG’s I’ve been in have meant to stack the way through the dungeon and skip as much as possible, and I can understand why people would do that, but when skipping content is the way to go, then there IS bad design involved. I’ve tried dungeons in other MMO’s where “skipping” trash mobs was possible due to their patrol route and there being more than just one way forward. Not in GW2; just run, if someone is downed then it’s tough luck for them, they can try again or in some cases just get kicked – ONLY, have I tried that, in GW2.
- It bothers me that there is so little teamwork, when I’m doing dungeons. Especially when GW2 has the combo fields, which could allow for some variations on how to deal with various situations. I know that combo fields are part of what makes stacking possible, but it would be a shame to have the devs simply abandoning the possibilities they present – especially when innovation is what ANet was founded for.

deSade, you are very quick to simply rage and put intentions on me. I urge you not to. Instead I’ll level with you here, as to what my intentions were.
- Mainly I’ve become tired of Gem Store armor sets. You can earn them by grinding for gold, but unlike the Elite Sets of GW1 there is not a status – or in skritt: “shiny” – along with them.
- Ascended armor that is not only obtainable through crafting would be neat. My original thought was to simply implement Ascended gear to each original dungeon and having said gear themed after the dungeon.
- As for having the dungeons revamped, I’ve heard people complain about Zhaitan since he was first defeated, so why not go all the way and add both ascended items and some revamped dungeons? – I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not as invested in dungeons as many other players of GW2, but I know that there is more than enough room for improvement there. And it shouldn’t be an issue to other players if improvement is requested on the forum. It should be an issue that the devs should take into consideration.
- And if revamped dungeons really is too much to ask for at the present time, then at least consider the ascended gear through dungeon tokens, then?

[Suggestion] Dungeon revamp and ascended gear

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sinifair.1026

Sinifair.1026

Dungeons isn’t where I spent most of my time, and I spent very little time in GW2 these days.
- However, when I do dungeon it’s the usual “STACK!”, “NOOBS!” and “Thx, bb.” so when I did the Aetherpath for the first time a few months back, it was a nice change of pace.
- I haven’t played all the new dungeons, and I’ve yet to lure my friends back into the game to do some of the multiplayer content with me.

I have read many a place that a revamp would be nice to all the original dungeons, but I’m not a dungeon designer. I’ll put my faith in the devs and the feedback of the hardcore dungeon community to make compelling dungeon content (and by hardcore dungeon community, I don’t mean those who stack… because that is hardly hardcore).

The idea of having revamped dungeons and new ascended gear to go alongside it was just and idea that I’d been thinking would up the original dungeons a bit – and no, I don’t mean something exactly like the Aetherblade path (though I find it more fun than many of the original dungeons) but something better and less like the Zhaitan fight…

Just out of curiosity, Veckna, what are some of the most fun, challenging and/or best dungeon mechanics you’ve encountered?

[Suggestion] Dungeon revamp and ascended gear

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sinifair.1026

Sinifair.1026

First off, I’d like to know how many people are keen on having some revamped dungeons coming into Guild Wars 2?
- While the first season of the Living World had its flaws, many agree the dungeons that it presented far exceeded the original bunch at launch, and I know that I, for one, really enjoyed some of the newer paths and dungeons that GW2 has to offer.

Everyone knows that the original dungeons has a bad case of the stacks.
- People “cheat” their way through, and it basically shows what poor dungeon design can lead to. It is faster, and people will always try to be as effective as possible, so who can blame them, really?

So my suggestion is this: Revamp the original dungeons, and at the same time, introduce some ascended armor and weapon designs for these dungeons. Keep the original exotic armor sets as well, but add something extra that gives players incentive to revisit the newer versions.

Question what’s stopping the Elder Dragon Energy from transforming Glint’s child into yet another Elder Dragon bent on consuming all life on the planet?

I guess Glint herself would be the response to such a question. She used to be a lieutenant of Kralkatorrik. With some help from the Forgotten she gained her free will from the control of the Elder Dragon. I would think her child is without his control as well.

Still, there is the matter of whether or not Glint’s child would contain the magic or if it goes to sleep like the Elder Dragons have, and then continue the cycle with waking up after its long slumber only to wreak havoc as it absorbs said magic again… or maybe it is more peaceful and absorbs the magic without all the chaos and destruction, when he wakes up. Or mayhap it won’t be able to control the intensity with which it absorbs the magic i.e. leaving us with the chaos and destruction scenario again.

- I presume it would become an extremely powerful entity, with dominion over all the different aspects the current Elder Dragons represent, if it absorbs their magic.

- I am curious to see how it will play out, and I will not say that your point is invalid. I think it is very relevant indeed.

I don’t think ANet should be scared to have Colin announce some of their plans for the year.
- The only reason people we’re angry with them about the Precursor Crafting was that we were told it would come in 2013, but when some issues came up they didn’t tell us. They didn’t share with us that they had encountered difficulties and had to postpone it.
- If they had, more people would probably have been more understanding, but instead we waited and suddenly everyone was angry that nothing had been announced, no news about anything.

Instead they chose to keep us in the dark out of fear that if they didn’t deliver, we’d be angry with them again.
- And all they really had to do was keep us informed; – You want to release something awesome? Great! – You encountered problems? That’s part of the development process. – You want to hear some suggestions? You got it!

Like you, I am probably more at a stand still. When I do play, which I do more often after the mid season break, I play on my asuran engi, whom I’ve chosen to become my dedicated crafter.
- I keep my eyes on GW2 and I’m excited to see the unrevealed areas of Tyria, along with Cantha and Elona, not to mention some of the geography that has never been explored in the franchise.

I hope ANet will pick up the pace at some point with these new zones and having some quality solo and multiplayer content for them, maybe filling them with more Dynamic Events and other kinds of content further down the road (it is a living world after all).
- Hopefully they’ll release Cantha and Elona as expansions (I’d prefer such huge continents with that many zones in an Expansion pack – just my opinion, I think there’s more room for polishing the content).

I’m not as frequenting a player of GW2 as I had hoped, but I’m enjoying it in my own way and at my own pace, and the fact that I can do that keeps me coming back.

People have pointed out to me that in the end of Asura Chapter 3, Flax says (in all three endings): “We know, Professor. We’ve always known. Preparations are being made to exploit your “discovery” for Rata Sum’s benefit even as we speak." And speculate that Gadd knew of the dragons and that they consume magic somehow and this was how the Arcane Council knew, but hid, this information.

Played that part yesterday on my Asuran engineer, and I wondered if that actually meant that the Council already knew of such theories.

Still, I wonder whether or not it would be best to do like the Arcane Council and cover up this thread.
- It is mayhap just a minor slip up from ANet’s part, and I did feel treated, being a GW1 vet, with all the references and lore in the library, so I’ll be willing to overlook it.

The key thing to take away from Vekk’s Thesis is the potential that other Elder Dragons simply become stronger, if we’re to kill one of them, meaning that each Dragon we face will cause even more casualties… unless, as has been theorized (I did think of it myself, but I think everyone had this thought) that if Glint’s egg will hatch a Dragon that is on our side, then it might conveniently enough be able to absorb the magic that is released when an Elder Dragon dies, i.e. making it stronger.

Playing through the Personal Story, a though occurred to me.
- Vekk’s Thesis about the remaining Elder Dragons consuming the magic of a slain Elder Dragon suggests that already about 250 years back, there was knowledge, or at the very least a theory, that Elder Dragons consumed magic.

- It’s such a big deal in the Peronal Story, when Gorr reveals this theory, but Vekk were already over 200 years ahead of Gorr.
- When did the Durmand Priory come into possession of Vekk’s Thesis? And how come it wasn’t already common knowledge to the Priory, then?

Something I missed somewhere that would explain this?

Jski: That “expansion” really refers to “expand” and that it can expand as much or as little as it wants, I’m not going to argue against… however, while I can appreciate the effort behind LS and while I am curious to see what is possible with it, I will say that if a company is too lazy to expand on their game properly, they will lose players, especially if it is an MMO.

I’ll state once again that I like the second season so far. It’s much more refined than Season 1 and I’m engaged in the story.
- The only problem, as already stated, is that it is only one storyline that they’re progressing. They might as well have made a singleplayer game, which they’d have been able to polish and refine, since MMO’s makes for bigger headaches in terms of how you design your content for that many people (without losing the Massively Multiplayer part of it).
- What I’m saying here is with only this one storyline they might as well have made a single player game. They’d get more content done in the same amount of time. There’s opportunities for better gameplay mechanics as well.

An expansion should bring both single player content (you can’t expect people to constantly have friends to play with, even in an MMO) and multiplayer along with Massive Multiplayer content.

If they made a new expansion right now, I’d be satisified with:
1. Updated PvE content in the areas we already have.

2. Certain permanent changes to those zones (like, Jormag is on the move, and new, better and more refined Dynamic Events are popping up in the Shiverpeaks)

3. A total revamp of the World Bosses (like they did with Tequatl). Make those fights extra exciting and hard, and make the rewards worthwhile.

4. More dungeons + armor and weapons.

5. New weapons for professions (maybe the ability to swap weapon skills – each weapon having an AoE, a CC, etc. skills, and you have to pick one of the AoE/CC/etc. at your disposal).

- Basically this is just some changes to the core of the game that I think would make it a more enjoyable experience on top of the new features in the feature pack.
- I’d expect way more of an expansion, really… but I wouldn’t want an expansion before the core of the game simply clicks. It shouldn’t be so that when an expansions comes out, the old content is irrelevant, and I like how the Living World has the potential to make it so.

Actually, Jski, the Living Story in GW2 would be the “campaign” as opposed to the campaigns of GW1. It’s the continuation of the main storyline, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m excited to see the next chapter, and I’m trying to figure out how best to interpret the vision… argh!
- The thing I’m missing, which the Living Story doesn’t deliver currently, is the side missions, all the other content and lore-hunting stuff, I’d like to dig into as well.
- Sure, there are new events in Dry Top, and yeah, they do count, but if we are to compare that to what an expansion could offer, well, it’s not enough, even over time.

Hope that kinds of clears it.
- But here’s to hoping that ANet can optimize their effeciency even further.

How do you know say an expansion would give you more then say the Living story? Its all content release at the end of the day just by different names just by the name of expansion they can charges you money but by the name of Living story they cant with out running to question of why they are charging now vs not before.

The sheer amount of substance and time to refine the content in an expansion is enough to counter your argument. Also, I’m tired of seeing new armor skins in the Gem Store and not something that a challenge in the game can provide (because many of these new armors are quite nice, actually).
- Greanted, I’ll say that the Living Story Season 2 brings about some quality storytelling in comparison to Season 1, but it’s ONE storyline, whereas in an expansion I’d expect many side missions and equally intriguing stories there.
- GW1’s campaigns would lead you through about 45% of the entire map. That’s more than 50% of the rest of each map to explore and to check out. Imagine if we’d only gotten the campaigns’ story missions of GW1 and nothing more. That’s what the Living Story is, more or less + some features, if you count them as “LW content.”
- We are all playing this one storyline, and if it is only this one storyline, ANet might as well have created a single player game.

- That isn’t to say I want the Living World gone, but I feel that the pace is a bit slow at the moment. I hope they can speed things up as they progress and learn.
- For Elona and (if it ever comes back to us) Cantha, I’d prefer an expansion. The rest of the zones in Tyria can tinker with the Living World concept.

My opinion is on the table but I can’t give you a definite answer.

I see what you did there.
- Seriously though, I feel that people should stop whining about it, because it is all over the forums.
- The silence is a reaction from ANet’s part due to the immense amount of immature rage and hate from peple not understanding that ideas might change, or issues might come up that requires the content to be delayed (think of how long GW2 was delayed, in comparison to their original plans for year of release).

I will say though, that they are partly responsible for that hate themselves, because they never told us that Precursor Crafting (careful! Hot topic!) was back on the drawing board.
- They announced something, we expected it to be out in 2013 because ANet said that was what would happen. They never told us that problems occurred and that it wouldn’t be out as soon as they initially thought.

I’m personally very pleased with the way boss mechanics are being handled, making control and support a viable option as well.
- After having gotten used to the “DPS is the only thing that matter, lolz” mentality of people, and using such builds when simply soloing content, I was pleased to find new and interesting mechanics in the second season (and some of the latter chapters of Season 1), which challenged such a mind set.
- The Tequatl fight, when they revamped it, was also a pleasure, even though we got ganked big time. The zerk/zerg kept hitting Tequatl, even though the bone wall was up and he was invulnerable. The chat was filled with “Don’t bother with cannons, attack!” – We got him down to 84% health the first time I played it. Was pleased, and amused.

On a side note, I also recently tried the Aetherblade Path in Twilight Arbor for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised, seeing as I was used to people simply making “runs” through dungeons in general.
- The mechanics were far more interesting than anything I’ve tried prior to it in a GW2 dungeon

- I think that if the damage output is strong enough from the bosses, there is a need for the support role, or that is my experience with it.
Playing support in such tight situations really makes a big difference, although people get mad at you for not being a DPS.
- As for control, they are already doing some great things, such as the mordrem fights. I also find that the mordrem husks, with high armor, makes the condition builds more viable.

- I still have hopes for GW2, although I find the pace to be a bit on the slow side (it’s picking up, though).
