If I remember correctly, players who bought the original game early on were getting an additional slot if they bought HoT. To date, I haven’t seen an additional slot. I still have 11.

Lauren answered this on page 10;

1. No extra character slot! – These are added once per week. Please submit a CS ticket if you don’t have one after a week has passed.

One thing that those of you that are having problems even getting into the game can try is repairing the game. I know that this has sometimes solved problems for me in the past. This link explains how; https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client

To all the “no character slot” people – read what is written around the stuff you are buying, so that you can avoid confusion and disappointment later.

As the pre-purchase offer has ended, I cannot quote the text written there directly, but the additional slot given as a bonus to every edition was being given on a weekly basis. Therefore, if you purchased HoT 2-3 days ago, you’ll have to wait a few more to get the slot.

I don’t remember seeing the “weekly basis” text when I pre-purchased, but thanks for the response. I’ll wait a while before I start whining.

Nerf unskilled play, add cast-times/animation

Prediction = skill

Instant casts without animations can’t be predicted. Free dodge baits with WASD

OP has a point

Prediction works because player actions are not random. There is always a reason why any player uses any given move. If you understand why a player does a certain move, you can understand when he will want to do that move.

I play from Australia so me having less than 250ms ping is considered amazing. There are plenty of attacks that should be slow enough to react to that simply aren’t at my latency, but I don’t need the game to tell me what my opponent is about to do. If they don’t match my mindgames, they will tell me what they’re about to do.

I’ve had times when I’ve dodged steal from the same thief 3 times in a row. That isn’t random dodging; I knew he wanted to use steal on me when I pressed dodge. He wasn’t playing on the same level I was and so, to me, his instant cast steal was as easy to see coming as a pve mob’s attack.

^^This. If everyone had a < 50ms ping, the OP’s suggestion might have some merit. However, since that’s not true, the OP’s suggestion gives more of an unfair advantage to those players with low pings than they already have. Those players would be able to see and react to the extended animation, while those with longer pings would not.

Transparency slider for skill effects

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

One of the biggest problems I have with massive boss fights is that I can’t see the d@mn boss, or anything around him/her/it due to the huge number of skill effects going on and around the boss. If ranged, I can’t see where to place a targeting reticle. If melee, I can’t even see if I’m hitting it or just swinging at empty air. And, there’s no way to see the boss’s “tell” of his big attacks. Don’t get me wrong. I like the look of the skill effects, in moderation. Just not when I can’t even see the boss.

At a minimum, I would love to see a slider on a page somewhere where I can adjust the transparency of the skill effects. For any large fight at least, I could make the skill effects more transparent, so that I’m only seeing a ghostly image of them, and can see the boss through them. Even better would be a quick way of turning the transparency on and off, so I could quickly switch between them for smaller and larger fights. Or have 2 transparency bars and a way to quickly toggle between them. But I would be incredibly grateful for just the minimum.

Thank you.

Turrets STILL "useless"

These posts made me wonder; why does the cooldown for turrets start when you pick them up/detonate/ destroyed? The cooldown for my mesmer’s clones start when I create them. Usually by the time they are destroyed (they seem to be much more survivable than turrets, btw) or I destroy them, they are ready to IMMEDIATELY be deployed again. Is there a good reason why turrets don’t have the same or similar mechanic?

Dungeon builds sticky?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Skyzen.8096

Would anyone else like to see a dungeon builds sticky? All of the professions have stickies for their builds, but I would like to see one specifically for dungeon builds, since explorable PvE is so easy that almost any build will work, but that can’t be said about dungeons. The kinds of info I’d like to see in a dungeon build description would be
— a link to the build
— a description of the build and how to use it
— which dungeons it has been used successfully in
— will it work in a PUG, or is it mostly for an organized group
— what kinds of adjustments can be made to the build for specific situations/bosses, while in the dungeon – adjustments to traits, skills, weapons, etc
— what level of skill is necessary to run the build
— nice, but not necessary, would be a link to a video showing the build in action
— anything else?

Beginners guide to dungeons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Skyzen.8096

Skyzen.8096

I’ve played a lot of GW2, but have never run a dungeon. I’d like to, but I can’t find a good guide to dungeons in general. Plenty of guides to specific dungeons, but I want answers to questions like
1) Which dungeons should I do first to get a feeling for what they’re like without dying too frequently?
2) Does there exist a list of dungeons that shows difficulty, average completion time, minimum level, etc?
3) How do I actually find a pug for a dungeon I want to run?
4) Is there some type of protocol for introducing yourself to a pug, such as specifying dungeon experience, describing my build, etc?
5) Do most pugs coordinate their actions, such as calling targets, intelligently using combos, etc, or is it mostly just “do what you think is right”.
6) Is any profession OK for any dungeon, or are there some dungeons that are significantly more difficult for certain professions?

Anything else you think I should know?

Thanks.

Check out this post: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/v2-0-Rifle-AoE-conditions-build-video/1178409

I haven’t run it yet, but it looks solid. I know it doesn’t say anything about FT in the title, but this is what the OP said further down in the thread:

Incidentally, the FT is the ONLY reason this build works.

And here’s another quote about it, one of my favorite from the thread:

Had too much wine tonight, but even with my drunken reaction time going on, the survivability seems excellent and the damage is pretty kitten good. Have to give it another run through tomorrow, but it’s almost drunkproof!

Can costumes be used or shared among alts?

Can costumes, such as Pirate Captain’s Outfit, be used by each of your alts simultaneously, or at least passed among your alts, or is it consumed by the first alt to use it, and that’s it?

Thanks.

Please tell me what use swiftness in combat

in Engineer

Skyzen.8096

Cool. Thanks guys. I thought I must be overlooking some essential technique(s) for the engineer class. I could see how it would help in PvP to travel point-to-point faster and could be used to chase someone down. Now I see that it is also useful as a way to boost your vigor and make you more survivable. But man, it would be cool if it boosted all movement speed.

Please tell me what use swiftness in combat

Skyzen.8096

I’ve been reading a lot of posts where people talk about getting perma-swiftness on a build, but I don’t see how it is useful in combat since it only boosts your movement speed when you run forward. It doesn’t boost speed strafing or backpedaling. If I run forward when in combat, I can’t see the guy I’m fighting and, if using a rifle or pistol, I stop firing. Do people only use perma-swiftness when using grenades or bombs and then slew the camera around so that they can run forward and still see behind them? Or do they just toss grenades and bombs and hope they hit the guy chasing them? Or do they run forward to get some distance, and then strafe? Or is swiftness bugged and it’s supposed to boost all movement? I’d really like to know.

Thanks.

I’ll post this again here since nobody ever responds to my other posts. My most successful sPvP and tPvP build so far, and one of the best 1v1 specs I’ve found for an Engie so far.

http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcMM9VmTMCMmvMCM0aaxGozombMR8khd7070m7kIN70V7owY8ofy

Holy cow! No wonder everyone keeps complaining about engies being OP :P. With builds like that, all you have to do is use Jump Shot in place and kill everyone on the map. I mean with a combined damage of 12,821,760 and a radius of 1,123,024,896 everyone on the map dies (see the attached pic from the build site if you don’t believe me). I see that you give up all condition damage, but who cares! This is not just 1v1, it’s 1vEveryone.

Is Hidden Flask trait for Engineer bugged?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

or am I misunderstanding how it’s supposed to work? My understanding is that when my health drops to 75% or less, I should automatically drink an Elixir B. I have never seen this happen. To test this, I started fighting an animal and then hit the Esc key to stop damaging the animal. I let my health get below 50% and never saw the boons I get when I drink an Elixir B from my utility skill bar. All my skills were fully cooled down before I tested this.I don’t know if it makes a difference, but I also have the Fast-Acting Elixirs trait.

Thanks.

Can "Armor" please be separated into Light, Medium and Heavy Armor categories?

Yes. This seems like low hanging fruit. Add Armor (light), Armor (medium), Armor (heavy) and change the db query. Take out or leave Armor in, either way would work.

Black Lion Key Improved!....

What do you guys think of keys being like salvage kits? The ones that drop in-game would have a very low chance of getting a rare and would drop more frequently than today. However, the TP would sell keys that have varying, and better, chances of getting rare items from a chest, the more expensive the key, the better the chance of a rare. Would that make you more likely to buy keys from the TP? Actually, now that I think about it, all of the various keys could drop in-game, just the better the key, the less likely the drop. I like GW2 and want them to succeed, but I’m not going to pay real money for keys that will only get me cosmetic items, with an exceedingly rare chance at a rare item.
