I’m playing something else now. That’s diverse, right?
The only semi-good thing about this change is that it’s forcing thieves into a melee position (where they truly belong). This MIGHT help make a few terrible thieves start meleeing and do damage instead of sitting at max range in a desperate attempt to stay alive while doing nothing.
I, on the other hand, am of the radical opinion that every weapon should be viable. If thieves have access to ranged weapons, it should be because they can “belong” at range.
But I’m one of those terrible thieves, so feel free to ignore.
Those statistics looks a lot like a post shortly after launch. Honestly, the distribution is as as I’d expect it. Humans a clear winner, with everything else roughly equal.
I think the only surprise in that graph is that there’s so many Kodan. :p
Kitten the Aetherblade. I’ve wanted to be a sky pirate ever since Trahearne, in one of his fits of naivety, gave me the keys to his air ship. :p
My problem with Norn females isn’t really that they are “too pretty”. It’s more an issue that they, to me, don’t really project the sense that they are half giants. The males look massive, whereas the females look like pretty normal (if fairly buff) human women.
The very first character I created in a beta weekend was a female Norn. They looked pretty cool and the Norn culture appealed to me. Sure, there’s the whole “raar we’re giants” thing going on, but I never really thought about it. I was, literally, shocked when I went to Divinity’s Reach and realized that my character was, like, 8’ tall. The Norn males look the part, but the females, imho, just doesn’t. You could scale the character models down to normal human sizes and they’d just be humans.
I’m not sure what exactly should be different about their character design, but I would have liked if they didn’t just look like human women scaled up 40%.
Let me say, first, that my main is Sylvari, and I have three Sylvari alts aside from him. I enjoy the race quite a lot, even if I’m really not fond of many of the Sylvari npcs I encounter.
That’s actually my main problem with playing a Sylvari as my main. With a scant few exceptions, roughly every Sylvari NPC you meet is a complete moron. I get that the ditzy valley-girl personae is “hillarious”, but do we have to repeat the same joke with every single NPC? Hrmph.
I might not like Trahearne, but at least he’s not also an idiot.
I hate him because he is an unforgiving Mary-Sue. He takes credit for events the player does, is universally loved despite being as interesting as a wet blanket, and lets not even START on that godawful VO.
And, speaking as a Sylvari, let’s not forget that the kitten Pale Tree gave him my sword! What the heck does a scholar need an epic sword for? I’m the one who’re supposed to fight the dragon, not stand in the back shouting advice.
I agree with the “haters” in this thread. I think a character like Trahearne is necessary for the story. Obviously, the player can’t become the leader of the Pact and make all the decisions. You need a background head-guy to hand out missions and sign paperwork.
However, as has been said before, I think the execution was really badly done. He shows up practically out of nowhere, and at level 50 the personal story goes from you being a cool hero that everyone looks up to, to you being the sidekick of the cool hero that everyone looks up to. It’s kinda backwards.
It doesn’t help that Trahearne gets credit for everything you do. He spends, like, every mission on his back, dying, and once you’ve done everything he gets lauded for being awesome. sigh
In the end, I just think the last part of the “personal” story was badly written.
It’s an MMO, you have to expect group content.
There’s a difference between “Our MMO has group content” and “all new content will be grouping-exclusive.”
I don’t think anyone’s shocked that GW2 has group content.
Centaurs would top my wish-list. GW2 is, after all, the self-proclaimed “MMO Revolution.” It’s time to throw off the yoke of biped character model oppression!
Also Krait.
I don’t want race specific classes. But I would like race-specific “skin themes” (not necessarily exclusive to a given race) for various classes. Like, I can’t play an Asura engineer because the engineering gadgets look extremely un-Asura-tech. If there was an option for all the engineering gear to look Asuran (similar to those glyphic weapon skins, say) I’d be all over it.
It might not work for every class, but at least some make obvious candidates.
Plants, on the other hand, don’t feel pain and are incapable of thought, so it’s more acceptable to kill them for food.
To elaborate, plants do not react to or process stimuli in a way you can relate to, so it’s all right to “torture and kill them for pleasure”. The way plants perceive their surroundings may, or may not, be a lot more relatable to a Sylvari than it is to human beings though, so maybe some Sylvari don’t feel comfortable “torturing” plants “for pleasure”.
“Most Vegetarians” and I will have to agree to disagree with the whole torture thing though. I don’t think it’s okay to torture anyone, whether it’s for pleasure, sustenance, or some other reason.
As long as you get plenty of sunlight and remember to stick your head in a bucket of water every now and then, you’ll be fine.
But none of us know how RNG is implemented in this game. How do we know some accounts aren’t more than lucky and what causes that?
To be fair, there’s really no such thing as a “random number” in software. There is only simulated randomness which may be more or less well-implemented. But honestly, if you don’t trust the ArenaNet developers to write a fair random simulator, why trust them with anything else? In the end it comes down to trust.
Either way, even if the RNG isn’t entirely random, it’s being the same not-entirely-random for all of us. We’re all playing with the same ball.
My best friend is a carrot. Some people are adverse to eating puppies or kittens. Likewise, I could never eat my little buddy.
My three, no, wait, four , Norn are:
Berghildr: Guardian. My first live character.
Ravensworn: Necromancer. She was born Esgred, but has devoted herself fully to the service of Raven.
Ulfrigg Stormborn: Engineer. Cleverly combining the word ‘Ulfr’ with the name Frigg.
SigrĂșn Trollbane: Ranger. My ranger wasn’t supposed to be Norn, but I really like the name.
So, now I’m curious. What are the other Skyrim Jokes?
Mesmer. Those huge brains of theirs make for natural psionic powers.
Are you playing female because you’re female in real life or you’re enjoying their bouncing boobs when they run ?
What, can’t it be both? :p
This is my Norn from the Engineer thread. Pretty traditional, but I just got to level 35. Hooray!
Norn ladies are very dainty. At least when it comes to matters of greatswords. There’s a reason I use a hammer instead.
It would be nice to have racial skins, as long as they are optional. Right now, Asura engineers look downright wrong using charr-like technology, but for the rest of the races I like the look.
A noted above, it doesn’t show the individual damage done, but rather a summary of damage done. I really don’t like that, personally, but I haven’t found an option to turn off combat numbers.
What is it you want advice on how to ‘deal with’? I play like coughninecough different characters as I feel like it, “perhaps even enjoying it”. I’m not in a hurry to get anywhere.
So what’s the problem?
I like how the response to a mechanical inconvenience is “you must be playing wrong.” Good grief.
Unfortunately, it’s very rare for monsters to actually drop gold. Most drop copper or silver instead, and clearly the +40% doesn’t apply to that.
(But seriously, referring to all money as ‘gold’, when gold is also a specific monetary unit, is a little weird.)
Yeah, it’s pretty annoying when every cutscene/zone transition/whatever switches off your kit (and potentially dangerous if that cutscene leads straight into a fight).
On that topic, have anyone else noticed kits just randomly switching off lately? I swear it didn’t used to do this, but lately it has, occasionally. Like you’re just running along a road and suddenly, bam, your grenade kit switches off.
Anyone notice that?
oh ya the norn… what are they, giant hunters? so… wood and animal hide covered turrets? lol, I donno…
Hey, any norn engis out there? just how small are the turrets you guys place? Compared to your size it must seem oddly tiny.
Humans. Turrets. You’re all oddly tiny compared to us.
Centaurs would look awkward trying to jump around the map and fit oddly into the same hit boxes all the playable races currently reside in (which are all identical).
Well, fine then. If I can’t have four legs, I want no legs. Krait is is!
I would like to see playable Centaurs. Mostly because I think it’s about dang time a game includes non-humanoid playable races. If any game could break that barrier, I think it’d be GW2. It is an MMO revolution, after all.
do you remember the name of any of these. I like designs that show off legs and arms, not cover everything up so I’m just looking at a flapping piece of fabric as I run around.
Try to take a look at the Outlaw set.
Uhm. I’m not home, so I can’t check. Don’t remember off the top of my head, I’m afraid. It was something pirate-like.
The default items you craft with leatherworking aren’t trench coats (though there is a buttcape). I managed to find some nice non-coat items on the trading post, too. They do exist!
Whats the point of farming anyways everything is streamlined to a balance anyways whether you play 1 hour or 100 hours you will still be the same in Spvp. No matter how much gear you have you cant out dps the CUE times for WvW so whats the point.
Because crafting requires significantly more crafting components than you can collect ‘naturally’ through normal gameplay, and if you outlevel a certain level tier it’s going to be a pain to collect components from that tier later.
The game very much wants you to grind.
I like how the advice on Waypoints is “don’t use them”. I’m fairly sure they weren’t implemented just to have pretty diamond shapes on the map.
It’s pretty simple: If loot doesn’t scale with your real level, then so neither should waypoint costs.
If the ranger is kiting you, you could pull out your rifle and shoot him in the face. Crazy, I know.
I rolled a charr because they have the best dang story arcs in the game.
Now that you mentioned eating other plants and cannibalism.
For Sylvari to be our equivalent of vegetarian, does s/he have to eat only meat?
VEGETABLES ARE MURDER *throws paint*
...whaaat?
While I agree with everything here, the #1 issue that overshadow everything else, for me, is the auto attack on kits.
I’ve been looking for the same armour, though honestly I was expecting to find it as town clothes rather than armour. If it turns out to be light armour, all the better.
Op, be productive and create a game that suits your standard and taste. If your arguments are valid I’m sure it will replace all other mmo out there.
Oh yeah, because the alternative to suggesting improvements to an otherwise great game is to go make your own game.
Because then it would make the guild wars community be quite upset that an element of WoW got added in to their game! :P
We also have trees, just like WoW. I’m just sure I see the problem.
And yes, a “decline all duel invites” option would be mandatory.
Now, I never played WoW, but are you telling us that you got 50 character slots included in the price of the sub? That seems unlikely.
Pff. That’s small potatoes. City of Heroes give you like two hundred character slots out of the gate, although only 12 on any given server to start with. I think you get extra character slot unlocks the longer you maintain your subscription. I have around 36 active characters on my primary server. :p
(I’m not an altaholic! The guys with the real problem are the ones with 200+ active characters!)
any other change would require some kind of magical intervention, I would have thought
I’m a mesmer. Illusions is what I do.
Also, the game seems to have changed my eye colour in a recent patch, which bothers me to no end. And there are ‘gear’ options in chargen (like hair ribbons or whatever) that you can’t update when you come across new dye colours. So yeah, definitely needed.
I’ve played all three of those classes at least through the starter zone (so level 15+). It might change later on, but my experience so far is that the warrior stands far above the other two (and, in fact, most of the classes I’ve played this far). Between the passive regeneration from Healing Signet and the “permament” might from “For Great Justice” I’ve been standing knee deep in up to ten even-level enemies while making shishkabob of everything with my sword/axe. I’ll guarantee you neither my thief, nor my engineer, could do anything remotely like that.
Of course, my warrior is really supposed to be rifle-focused (Ash legion sniper, raar!). And I enjoy my thief and engineer more than the warrior. Go figure. I really like the flexibility of the engineer and the ability to adapt to every situation. As for thief I… uhm, I’m not actually sure what I think. Works pretty well, but they don’t really wow me, nor do they disappoint. It’s just… I don’t know.
Also, make sure that your mailbox isn’t full.
I wish you didn’t get a scrollbar past 7. Seems there’s plenty of room. Maybe the presence or absence of a scrollbar could scale with your screen resolution or something.
I believe it’s Tarnished Coast for the US and Piken Square for EU. For the unofficial RP servers, that is.
