This saddens me. Incinerator and Frostfang are getting updated footfalls, but Rodgort isn’t? The Dreamer is now getting footfalls too? Apparently shooting giant unicorns out wasn’t noticeable enough, clearly not more than the little flame around our forearm when we hold Rodgort.
If it’s a question of mainhand vs. offhand, then make offhand legendaries cheaper. Rodgort cost me just as much as many of the mainhand legendaries, it should have just as large of an effect.
Permaknockdown. It’s not a mechanic. It’s garbage.
I don’t think you understood my point. The content of this game is not getting harder with the introduction of Ascended weapons. Anything you can do now with an Exotic weapon you will still be able to do with an Exotic weapon. Quite frankly, the content of this game (with the exception of higher level Fractals) can very feasibly be done in all Rares, but people require Exotics for the simple fact that they’re there.
It’s like when you buy a TV, and a few months later a newer version of that TV comes out. It doesn’t make your TV useless, it still does all the things it did when you bought it. The idea that you NEED to have it is completely in your mind. Same goes for Ascended gear. If you want it, then you will put the time and energy required to get it because that’s what video games are. If not, then you won’t.
Quite an overdramatization.
Exotic and Ascended weapons will most likely not have that big of a stat difference, much like accessories. There will be an infusion slot, though, so if you Fractal you won’t be useless without one but it may make it easier.
The few weeks it takes you to play the game in order to accumulate the materials required to make an ascended weapon will not make your Foefire’s Essence un-useful. I would almost wager that you probably won’t even notice much of a difference, although I’m sure people will claim they do.
So from its release until I just noticed it, the Genesis hammer skin had a flowy watery light ripple effect to its golden glow. Now, it doesn’t. It’s just a static glow in the hammer. I was wondering what spurred this change, as the ripple effect was one of the reasons I got the skin in the first place.
I know culling was recently changed, and therefore some sort of graphics properties were probably manipulated, but this doesn’t seem like something that would be affected. I don’t know, to me it made the hammer go from “really awesome” to “pretty cool”. Bummed that it’s such a rare piece and, as such, cost quite a bit of coin to obtain. Was just wondering if there was a reason or “just because”. Perhaps it’s just me or something with my client.
For people who are interested in or have been saving for Genesis you might want to preview it again [&AgGlrwAA]. As far as I can tell, Entropy is unchanged.
It’s difficult to capture in a screenshot, since the ripple is an animation, but you can kinda tell:

You… are legitimately angry that they combined numbers correctly and didn’t explicitly list it?
Wouldn’t that information be taken care of when you… saw it in game?
I don’t think a lack of molly coddling and hand holding is a lack of regard for the consumer. They clearly view us as a group of people who can reasonable work out insignificant changes on our own. I think I would be more offended if they felt they had to chew up my food before I ate it and put every line of code they changed into the patch notes.
Like others have mentioned, I don’t think there is argumentative integrity in correcting someone on their grammar, and then getting all kitten y when they do the same to yours. It makes you look like a child who is throwing a tantrum for being called out on his hypocritical and petty name calling.

I’m glad I read through the whole thread, this is pretty much the list I was going to post. Strife has some amazing builds, WP is just the KITTEN for Lore (and useful toolbox items!), and Dulfy’s guides are amazing.
I would also put Dontain forward for being memorably hilarious! I think the reason I like WP and Dontain specifically is that they were making great videos about GW2 before GW2 even came out. If anyone has not seen Dontain’s video “Skyrim is NOT Guild Wars 2” or WoodenPotatoes’ Lore videos, go check them out! Those two kept me well fed on GW2 during the time between BWEs.
If you can be on tonight any time after 7 PM PST I’d be happy to find a group to run with you. I still need to run my girlfriend through it as well. Unfortunately I can’t get on before then. :/
I wouldn’t blame Anet for not being able to find a group, the fact that they scale everyone up to cap is not something I’ve seen other games do. I would blame the people who think that they’re too good to be weighed down by an “under leveled” character. This dungeon isn’t that hard if you pay attention and dodge.
So let me know! We can get your wife her gloves and achievements for sure.
Again, it’s a semantics thing. It’s called a Personal Story because you personalize it. You choose which paths your start with, which paths you take, but everyone ultimately ends up at the same place. They called it a Personal Story for those reasons, because depending on which paths you choose your story could have different paths than someone else, all ultimately ending in the same goal of taking down a dragon.
You’re confusing “Personal Story” with “the only story important to the game”. It’s not. If it’s the only segment of the story that you care about, fine. But just know that you’re going to be disappointed when the game continues on around you and you’re not willing to take part in it.
In another post you make a comment about dungeons having ‘Story Mode’. Quite right! However, it’s a different story. The dungeons are Destiny’s Edge’s story, rather than your story as the Personal story is.
You missed my post that said both stories are two plots of a single story.
It seems like this whole thing is a matter of semantics. The game never tells you it’s “required” or “mandatory” to play the dungeons. Not in those words, nah. But the level 30 story for every. single. player. is a meeting of Destiny’s Edge. It MAKES it personal, and it marks the beginning of that story thread. It makes the story of this game versatile in that you get a main plot and a sub plot, but they’re all part of the whole story. There’s not a single piece of good fiction out there that only has one plot line. That’s tedius and boring. While Luke is fighting Vader, I also want to see what the others are up to on Endor. Even Shakespeare threw multiple sub plots into his plays, that’s how core this is to good story telling.
While it doesn’t beat you over the head with verbiage that says “now go here and do this because you have to”, and it isn’t progress blocking if you don’t complete them, you NEED to complete the Story Mode dungeons in order to fully consume the entire story. Just because you chose to play the portions of the story you did solo doesn’t mean you were “given access to all the story content solo” the entire way through, you just didn’t play the other parts. If you’re going solely by quest markers in the corner, maybe you’re missing the point of a living world.
The fact that you find it irritating is not Anet’s doing. That’s your own thing.
I’m still curious as to why people push so hard to make this game fit how they want to play it, instead of going out and finding a game that fits how they actually want to play.
Whatever you’re looking for, it clearly isn’t here.
…I am…I have…mine…
I’m really very surprised that someone who seemingly cares so much for this story has not paid attention to any of it. The thread that links the entire personal story together is that we can not do this alone. We NEED help. We MUST band together. Why WOULDN’T you need more people for the final push? Why are you so wrapped up in complaining about something that held a message you didn’t pay any attention to?
Weeeeak, and would be classified as a wallbanger had it been put in print rather than a game.
Well now it’s just a matter of tastes. If I read something in which one person is the end all be all most powerful greatest person ever, it’s a snooze fest. I want to see companionship and teamwork, not some mary sue story where the main character can just do everything alone and is the best winner evar. Just because your tastes don’t line up with Anet’s doesn’t make it a bad choice on their part.
I think the idea is that you didn’t do it alone. You had help the whole time. So it’s more of a selfish thing, then?
LOL, the idea that Story Mode dungeons aren’t necessary to get the entire story can only be from someone who hasn’t given them a chance. The world of this game isn’t contained in your own little bubble, and it was never intended to be. Dungeons are NOT separate from Personal Story. Just because it’s labeled “Personal” doesn’t mean it’s solitary. I’m guessing the entitlement to have access to what you want comes from paying for the game, but if you pay for the game and choose to skip out on content, that’s not Anet’s fault. For people who have yet to complete their Personal Story, and have neglected to do the Story Mode dungeons, don’t even bother finishing. You won’t have the necessary plot resources in order to fully understand it anyway.
If playing with strangers is a problem, make friends. Join a guild. These parts of the game are some of the most fun if you have a coordinated group. I’m not telling you how to play, I’m offering a suggestion to get more enjoyment out of this game as the developers have clearly intended. Grouping is a requirement to play many aspects of this game. This is a social game.
If you refuse, your inability to do so doesn’t fall on the responsibility of Anet. They will keep making the game as they intend it, and you will continue to “play how you want”, but don’t expect that those two will match up.
…requiring you do every type to finish the event as a whole. If they’re going to be lazy…
How is expecting you do participate in multiple types of content in order to earn rewards lazy? It sounds more like a lazy player not willing to put forth the effort to complete it because it’s not catered to them. It’s NOT a bait and switch. It’s a reasonable expectation. They’ve given you all of the tools you need to be successful, if you don’t use them it’s your prerogative.

There have been several legendary weapons that have been getting buffed over time, and I wanted to throw my two cents in if you guys were planning on doing the same for Rodgort. I recently got it, and I love it to pieces. However, there are a few things that I noticed that might be better with some retooling.
I also want to say that I’d rather you guys work on pressing bugs, skill balancing, and progress-halting issues first. This is purely a cosmetic thing and takes no precedence over things that actually prevent players from enjoying the game.
I also realize that if you ARE planning on beefing up Rodgort, you probably have all the ideas you need. But I was kicking around ideas and decided to put them here anyway, just in case.
The big this that stands out for me is the very halting transition from sheathed to unsheathed. When the weapon is stowed it’s a very cool, shiny metal bust of a dragon, and when it’s out it’s a sweet fire-breathing, moving dragon’s head. However, the transition between the two is jarring. It just sort of instantly changes as if it were a different skin entirely. It would be super neat if it smoothly melted out of its metal form into the breathing dragon head, maybe even shaking and stretching a little, and hardened back into metal when you stowed it.
I think it would be neat if it also had some sort of flame present while it was stowed. Maybe an ever brewing fire spilling out of its mouth or something. I saw another comment on the forums that people often confused it for a warhorn or scepter over a torch. It would be nice to have a source of light even when it’s put away, too. You know, for the dark rooms.
There are many mentions around the interwebs of the footsteps and arm flame being the exact same effect as the incinerator. Maybe making them more of a lava font (like the sweet new molten picks) would give them a longer lasting impression than just a wisp of flame. Possibly a more noticeable flame aura as well, covering more of the body instead of just the arm. The Moot is a one handed weapon and the disco aura is all encompassing, it would be sweet to see the fire go that same route.
Anywho, I think that’s all I thought of. It’s kitten sweet, and I don’t regret working for it at all. Just thought I’d suggest a few things that might make it even sweeter, and more enticing for people looking to get it.
THANK YOU! Much appreciated!
Looking for a temple! Thanks!
I love this idea! I was just thinking about it when one of my guildies was talking about how he would share his multitude of ascended rings with us if he could, because he doesn’t need all of the ones that he’s gotten or he doesn’t care for the stats. It would be really cool to be able to share those sorts of things among guild members to promote a sense of community, and it gives people uses for the things that they don’t need but feel obliged not to throw away because of rareness and what not. A quick Google search brought me to this thread, and I have to say I support this 100%.
I just want to remind you that you’re angry at a few lines of code.
If you don’t like it, don’t get it. If you do like it, work for it. You have to remember that there are people in the game that do enjoy the challenge of the Fractals, and do deserve better gear for their progress. The game wasn’t just made for you. If you play a part of any game for a long time you expect a reward, and the ascended gear is that.
MMOs are a living game in the sense that the developers have to keep changing them in order to keep up with the player base, out of expectation of said players. When you buy an MMO, you sign up for a long haul. Single players games are fine with one arc because the player goes in knowing that once they’re done, they’re done. Sure, some companies now come out with DLC for their games, which is optional and not everybody enjoys, but that’s ok because they don’t HAVE to play it. You paid one time for the game that was released. Were there a subscription fee and you were forced to pay for content you’ll never use is one thing. Getting angry on the forums about a completely optional part of the game that you’re paying nothing for is a little silly.
If you don’t enjoy it, it doesn’t mean it’s bad game design. Not everything is meant for everybody. I probably won’t get most of the achievements available in this game simply because I won’t want to do the things involved. We’ll all move on. Is it a pride thing? It’s meant to be difficult, there’s no shame in not being able to do it. It’s just a video game.
