Once upon a time, not so long ago, I (ranger) was busy capturing a ruin, when an ennemy thief came to contest the cap. He downed me in less than a min, then proceed to stab me to my death while I was on the floor.
In despair, I used the pet reviving skill. My health slowly resume to go up. The thief keep trying to kill me auto-attacking. While my pet was healing me, I just threw my little rocks at him, until finally he came down. My pet revived me properly then I walked to him and stomped him, just to show him how it works. I was telling the tale to my guildmates on vocal, quite a moment of fun. The fact that the thief never tried to stomp me shall stay a mystery.

I said it genuinly. Every build I see is over 3k and I used to play with around 3k8 armor, so I’m wondering about making a change too drastic for me. I don’t pretend to be pro or anything. I’m mainly a casual player. Just want to try something new.
Well, I do like your suggestions. Doliak signet was here to reassure me a little, as for superior runes of Melandru. I think I’m gonna drop it for the Signet of Stamina. Still keeping the Melandru runes. I don’t want to be controled since I could not tank the damages so much anymore. If I feel I can go without it, I might try the Lich runes.

Hi. I’m currently looking for another build for my war, since I’m usually running a very tanky Knight build. I wanted to go for a condi + vita build, with the minimal amount of toughness. Question is : is it even possible to be a war without toughness ? Every build I see here has at least 3k armor. I might be taking down to 2700-2800, and I wonder if it’s viable.
Any suggestions ?
Here's the thing I’d like to try, but I don’t want to spend too much if it’s just silly.
Well, I’m talking about another use of Sword/shield, but this build I run in WvW is amazingly enjoyable. It’s a very very tanky Warrior with a spe I like to call I run away with 10hp.
In train : Hammer is the mass control weapon of the warrior, ok that’s not the point. With sword you gain mobility through the ennemy train (2), and longer survivability with 5 of shield. You also put Cripple 1/3 hit with 1 (enforced by the trait in Tactics). I found that my war is almost undownable in a 2 trains impact, if I don’t overestimate the time I can spent into heart of ennemy pack. Jump with 2 to run away.
In roaming ( 2 to 5 ennemies ) : The purpose of sword/shield here is to provide with a mighty control combo. Jump on target with 2, 4 for stun, switch to Hammer, Immo with 3, 5, then 4 if ennemy still manage to get up after that, switch, 3 to achieve. Perfect to down the little light ones hiding behind their tanks. If they had no Stab at the moment, they’re down.
But let’s make it clear, this build is not for a 1v1 purpose. I don’t burst enough for it, and no condition (only little bleeding on 1 of sword). I duelled once my a slightly dps guard, and it was an autistic fight, could have last ages. Once he gets past my combo, any dps just burn me down after I used all my heal and invu cd. You are supposed to duo with a dps guy.

Well, everyone back on EBF again. Especially on our side, I have to admit. Thanks to all the roaming groups around the Borderlands for making a different play. Thanks to all UW that try to resist the mighty [COP], and sometimes succeed in.
I hope you guys didn’t die of boredom before the end of the week.

XD Such a great fight, for you at least. I was the Warrior you aimed at at 04:26. Eventually went to suicide rush on your golem with my Necro guild chief. We got bored at standing on the wall doing nothing. We were lacking a commander at that time ^^’. Got a few of you in the corridor at the end.

To be honest UW has been pretty much depleted and faceplanted for months so this matchup I think has brought some renewed passion due to the not so wider difference in numbers.
Happy New Year to you fellow ennemies ! I was just as glad as you to see the renewal of UW after such a dull week-end ! Your attacks on Bay drove some of our commanders mad ! XD
but one guild that has stood out for me this week is “VVV” (think that was the name, from FoW.. .. a good organised group of players and 1v1 they certainly bled me a few times
We do have a guild called VVV Family [VVV], in Arborstone. They are our proud defenders of EB tier, and IMO one of the most organized and dedicated guild. Maybe it’s them that you passed by ?

Actually, building siege weapons is skill in WvW. You don’t want them, go in sPvP. And inter-maps communication is also part of the skill. I call it server-scale strategy. :p
… Ask for GvG, in think some may be glad to come and fight you. The EB blob is way too big and may benefit of a few guilds running all by themselves.

EB is blob heaven. But the Borderlands are empty, except for the FoW one, so every PU goes to find fights on EB. That’s what is sad about this match-up. I hope the fight will be more scattered on the maps during the week.
… I have to admit that we are dramatically outnumbering you, UndW and FoW. I don’t take much pleasure into this kind of match-up. I want frustration and desesperate fights, not rolling over in blob.
I hope you guys will keep the heart to defend your things and destroy us some times.
Hi again ! I speak for the Arborstone side. I speak all by myself, not asking others, but I think that the feeling may be shared by some of my team-mates.
Underworlders, wake up ! Stop fighting each others ! Your home is a mess I have never seen before ! Anywhere ! I mean, in AS we fought versus RoF, Dzag, Surmia, servers way bigger than us, but I can’t remember a time where the ennemies had the 3 TP in OUR forts ! At 11am ! On Saturday ! Just look at your home !

So bring your people out of EB, repaint your homeland, and give us somethink to take from you again. And come and say “Hi” in our forts with golems while you’re at it. Instead of stacking them up the roof of Valley.

We got used to RoF blobbing our Garrison around midnight. Now we still have our 3 TP in forts. They all survived the night ! I guess they might survive another day without even a threat. Some scouts in keeps and towers are sleeping in the lord’s lap ! Only fun were the [WvW] roaming squad lurking in the south of the map. Thanks for coming.
Meanwhile in EB, you can’t make a step without bumping into someone, ennemy or ally. Cheers to the Underworlders for their defense of MS. You wanted to keep this castle, did you ? XD
Please bring the fun to the Borderlands !
But I would hate if people could gank you everywhere in pve, it should be kept in WvW only, or maybe give regions to Blue / Green / Red each week and switch around
You followed exactly my thoughts. I pictured WvW-only version of the PvE maps, with no interference with PvE itself. Just recycling the map design.
And a random assignment to servers every week.
Well, I keep thinking about it, and I think that the PvE maps have far better design for medium scale PvP than the current WvW’s. The land is usually devided into areas with, say " keep + tower + camp ", with a huge non crossable landscape feature to part them, often a mountain.
A main road leads from one area to another, and several smaller ways allow to crossroad, but you have to struggle against the landscape features. And the main road is generally a serie of open field and close up segments. It would give strategic possibilities like “fight in plain” or “ambush in narrow place” for the defenders. You can’t have a big zerg rolling over the whole map in 15min into such a map without being ambush along the main road.
The TP in keeps would be more valuable, since the maps are bigger. Currently, it’s not such a big deal for a zerg to go unnoticed all the way from Respawn to the north camp of an ennemy Borderland in only 5-6min. The TP in keeps are more often used for a defense purpose than for strategic mobility of the zerg on the map.
The best thing with PvE map design, IMO, is that it would change the whole spirit of WvW. It would be more of a guild job to defend or attack each specific area. A zerg wanting to go through all the areas would have to venture into dangerous places where their numbers are no longer a vantage, and meet small guerilla guilds along the way.
To sum up, I can’t understand why Anet chose such a design for WvW maps when the name of the game is actually " Guild " Wars. And they gave all the good map design to PvE, with obvious PvP features. Mystery to me.

Why won’t we have PvE maps for WvW ? I mean, when you see these maps, when you walk around in them, you can’t help to see that they are perflectly viable for PvP. Well, some of them at least. Or would be with only a few change.
You have keeps, towers, some places that are definitely supply camps… I can’t recall all the times I wander into a PvE castle and think " I’d really put a treb up there". Plus rich diversity of landscapes : canyons, grottos, swamps, places to hide, to ambush, etc.
It won’t even require a lot of developping (well I don’t really know, I just guess) since the maps are already set. You just have to remove the NPCs and put the WvW ones and, done !
These maps would be assigned as Borderlands randomly every week and give a little variability at each match-up, even if the servers are the same (due to new ranking system). It would bring the game into the Borderlands again, with an uncountable amount of new strategies to make up.
Amongst the minus : the maps would not be exactly equale to each other, and people would probably come to fight over the “best” map, with the easiest defending points and such… but meanwhile, some might want to defend or attack really challenging points, as ( often read on this forum) guilds want more challenging battles and places to display their skill.
Buuut the maps are way too big. Well that’s a problem. Maybe WvW maps inspired by the PvE ones ?
Ok, I think you got my point. Just a random idea. And I see how it would be a very drastic and difficult change to set. Still… I’d like so much to fight in the Fields of Ruins.
Hi guys. As I’m from AS I feel really proud about all others servers saying they like us not giving up and keep coming till the end. We won’t disappoint you in this, I swear.
Had a great defense time vs RoF multiple guilds zerg ( Tag , Love , some others) on Askalion Hills. We felt good for having you forced to build the trebs, not just once, but twice, as we were dramatically outnumbered.
We had not report of bug use and cheat amongst the guilds I know. Feel free to post screen if you see one, but for the non-guilded people I think we can do nothing but curse them with you. There are some of them on every server, and they wrong us all.
Keep coming guys ! Fun fights ahead !
