Could it be because none of the devs play ranger? yeah that’s probably it.
Irenio said during TwitchCon that he mains a Ranger. Not sure if it’s by choice or because he was given/selected to balance Rangers (and Engineers). Either way, he’s the only developer Rangers have on the balance team.
and yet someone else’s knee jerk reaction to a skill change is what leads to another nerf for rangers. GG anet.
And if people don’t think the same thing will happen to Ranger before release they’re crazy. History should tell us that Druid healing will be nerfed into the ground before release.
Their Elite should have been called MageTank. Ridiculous how tanky and how much damage they are doing. It’s like the next Cele Ele
You have got to be kidding me… O.o
Funny to see you defending something….is it got to do with the fact that you play a necro?
If that is the case then surely you defend d/d ele because you play ele.
its whatever, they can believe what they want. Little do they know I’m also a big advocate of nerfing Spite and reconfiguring Soul Reaping to make the rest of the class better/more well rounded (though the line is a kittene to draw. Unlike Ele who ware the top in PvE AND PvP, Necromancer can’t sustain many needs to damage since they are already basically obsolete.) I defend Necro because it deserves it… Similar reasons why I defend non-cantrip eles, non-Beast Master Rangers, Warrior Diversity, Non-dp thief viability, etc.
It has little to do with what “class” I support. Every class has stuff that’s too strong and stuff that really needs help. People are too tunnel visioned over the “meta” to realize that, though.
I actually agree with you…not every build of reaper is over the top but I have ran into a few today that are quite tanky and do a significant amount of damage for that tankyness. I while I too do not like the whole META…is unfortunately here to stay.
Nothing kittenes me off more than when I am typing something in chat and that box pops up.

Has to do with the fact that Base Necro is just as tanky, if not more tanky as it has more boon conversions (turning might into weakness), weakness in general, condition removal/transfer, and isn’t forced into melee. Nothing about the reaper is close to a D/D ele and Reaper are forced into Soul Reaping because that’s where every bit of their life force comes from.
I’m all for give and take, but Reaper has quite a few issues (diversity being a huge one), and in most cases is actually not tanky enough to constitute being basically 100% melee (outside of staff’s terrible damage).
Just letting people know they’re misinformed, but feel free to try it, and especially try something that isn’t SRS Reaper (Soul Reaping Spite), and let me know how much you feel like a D/D ele.
So wait, on one reply you are asking if serious and then this you are basically saying they are OP…which is it?

i think melee-based rangers will have a much harder time with the reaper, rev and daredevil running around. no idea how good or horrible druid will turn out, but if it’s lackluster, we can basically expect even more LB spam from 1500. will be hard to stay relevant otherwise.
Pretty much this. And even then I think LB is going to be at a disadvantage against most of the new specs. I main Ranger, but played some rev yesterday and pretty much wiped the floor with every Ranger I came up against.
Necro’s are going to be out of control…
Back to the top with you until Sticky’d I will not let you die.
Roy,
Rev is not done until this skin is introduced =P
With raid content being much more difficult, if Druid fails to live upon it, I can already see “Raid group no ranger ty”
Like all the other game modes?
Druid better be some fantastic spec, or I may just have to hang up the bow. Not something I want to do, but I am not confident at this point. As many others have said if Druid fails, Ranger is effectively dead in pretty much every game mode, except maybe WvW Roaming.
I am running a pretty standard D/P build and I really struggle against necro’s
Any general tips against them?
Anet had went off the ranch and introduced fist weapons with the DareDevil Elite.
I think it would have been pretty kitten cool.

Just check out Wolfi’s site in general I am sure you can find a build there that fits your style.
Incredible.
Email to players announces all the new specializations except Ranger
Anyone want to join me tomorrow (Monday) hitting Anet on twitter?
It’s time we made some noise in public – the forums are being ignored – Rangers are not being given the attention that all other professions have been given to a one.
I will be sending Anet my “love” on twitter tomorrow.
Engineer also isn’t in that email, and for obvious reasons, both were not officially announced …
Hmmm. that email has me thinking… quick someone calculate the over/under that either Ranger, Engi, or both will not be released with the HOT go live but will come after…
The problem I have with seeing a melee staff is that at this point with thief and Rev both getting a melee staff, it might start to be an overused concept. For thief and rev, it’s unique in a sense because they lack 2 handed melee weapons without staff.
Ranger, on the other hand, has greatsword already. So what would a melee staff that’s different from thief and revenant act without overlapping with Ranger GS at all? That would be my question/concern from a design point of view.
A caster staff for the druid on the other hand has tons of design potential that isn’t present on either the ranger class or in the theme/function of other classes. It doesn’t even have to necessarily be a “ranged” weapon, it just has to avoid being a martial weapon (aka it could be similar to guardians staff and have shorter ranges or even no range, but still thematically use magic to attack).
I doubt that anything will be revealed until after the next BWE though
ANet is cutting it close
But I want to beat up bad guys with a stick. Also, having a melee staff does increase the chance of the staff being a damage focussed weapon, something I want to see. I don’t the first elite specialization to be some sort of tank or support centered specialization, I want to play through HoT with my Druid and I want to be able to kill stuff, as fast as the Berserker or the Daredavil can at best.
Good Luck with that…I hope the spec is amazing but I am not holding my breath, it looks like Ranger and Engi are only going to get one Beta weekend for feedback. The two most bugged classes in the game and they get the least amount of attention…
Don’t worry, the economy will be ok. We put a lot of effort into keeping it protected.
Uh huh, sure……
You uh, read the restrictions on what they can and cant do, right?
Yeah, but I’m not stupid enough to trust that Anet is going to have the community’s best interest in mind.
My issue is not with Anet, but with Nexon’s influence. If you don’t know their history of destroying every game they touch with crazy pay walls then you should look it up. And make no mistake Nexon had some influence here.
With the announcement of HOT being released on Oct. 23rd, I am not confident at all that my two favorite classes, Engineer and Ranger will have sufficient testing and feedback phases.
I am actually really skeptical about the elites for these two specs now, especially if Roy is doing them both. Don’t get me wrong, this is no slight to Roy. I actually think he is doing a great job on the Rev and the communication and candor are great for the Rev. But there are only so many hours in the day for someone to work and I understand the Rev is taking precedent.
I hope I am wrong.

Thank you Tongku, I am honestly not having much issue with Condi. Its the burst that is getting me, but your advise is much appreciated.
Yeah, Puck. I am pretty much using your MM/SK/BM build.
I think part of my problem is I just recently returned to the game after almost a 2 year break. When I left fights were much more drawn out and while there was some burst it was not as significant as it is now.
Maybe it is a L2P issue for me and just getting used to the new playstyle. It’s a frustrating learning path though as I used to be able to pretty much at least 1v2 most classes.
I’d like to see – Movement speed is increased by 25% or at least while wielding a Longbow.
I agree, one of these traits needs a passive 25% ooc movement speed. Its crazy that Guardian does not have any access to OOC movement speed other than staff or retreat.
(edited by Swiftly.2385)
I really hope thief gets to flip around and aoe smash, and stun ala Gambit style with the staff.
It’s a 1 handed Spear.
Where’s my spear.
Stop the Trolling
Hey thanks for the reply. I am generally running Ranger. Approximately 20k health, Trooper Runes LB/GS Shout or Survival Build.
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I am primarily a WvW player and well this is where I am struggling to be honest.
My builds usually run 1400-1500 toughness and 2300-2600 armor and I am still basically getting killed before I have time to react.
Mesmers, Thieves and even a Warrior yesterday were critting me for over 4k with multiple attacks in succession yesterday.
It feels like building tanky really has no benefit whatsoever?
Any advice?
Thanks.
The only time I have been certain of a macro usage was a thief in WvW, he went
Basilisk Venom
Shadow Shot
Hydromancy/Leeching Weapon swap
Shadow Strike
Scorpion Wire
Shadow Strike
Steal
Shadow StrikeAll in like 3s. He was just running around doing the exact same combo constantly.
So this was the reason I asked the question. I ran into two different rangers that were executing their skills in a series that really wasn’t possible without some sort of macro. And as you describe exactly the same combo of skills every single time including a weapon swap.
Because there are a lot of people admittedly doing it in Spvp….
Why isn’t the Engineer considered meta for WvW Zerg, Roaming, and GvG? The amount and breadth of utility, conditions, and damage this Prof can put out on multiple targets is pretty staggering…
But I never see anyone mention the Engi as a Meta Proff for anything in WvW.
Just curious.
I honestly wouldn’t mind it but only from Hammer to ranged setup. This is of course depending on what skills the hammer will get.
Hey Deax,
Nice Vid! Which build did you find the most fun and effective for WvW Roaming?
How do you get around in WvW? Is there some swiftness combo or 25% OOC speed I am missing?
Thanks in advance.
Sticky this? 15char Rangers
I am in Story mode. Hoping this is something obvious I am doing wrong. I am still in the dungeon…
Thanks.
Been in AC twice now and when I walk up to pull the chain to disable the traps….nothing…
Gear stays orange after killing all the mobs in the first room with the traps.
Thanks in advance
I’ve put hundreds of hours into GW2 and have never stepped foot into a dungeon or fractal. Generally I play GW2 as if it were a single player RPG and I never care for situations where I’m forced to use a specific build and party up with others that simply want to rush through to get loot.
You aren’t forced to join those types of groups.
Make your own LFG add and include things like “casual, everyone welcome, no rush, fullclear” etc.
If you really insist on soloing them, mesmer isn’t really the best class for it, certainly when you don’t have experience with soloing yet.
What is the best class for soloing dungeons?
Bring back massive Mob Trains and give Thieves Feign Death :P
I have a Total Makeover kit sitting in my bank. If I use it on my Beta Revenant is it gone forever?
Thanks in advance.
I am going to get some hate for this but I have always thought Traps needed a Trap Launcher ala WoW. it would make them more fun and would provide for more counter play.
1 second of swiftness? 1? No, really…1?
Impossible Odds is a pulsing quickness and super speed while you are upkeeping the skill.
Does it trigger the cd of legendswap when out of combat? I’m curious to know if we are going to be able to use it (almost) permanently while ooc.
It’s not intended to be constantly used out of combat, but I think in the version you all get to play this weekend that you’ll be able to do what you said..
That’s amazing.
Uhm, “in the version you all get to play this weekend”
Lol, please don’t nerf its ooc effect, it’s the only good mobility option we currently haveIt was almost impossible to keep up with far groups in WvW in the last beta WE.
Lightning field+blast forces to use mace+jalis (hammer is not fast enough and you need to stop to blast), and it’s bad if there are mobs around.
Also mace+jalis can’t really be used in jumping sessions without falling down.If you really want to nerf IO ooc, then can we at least get swiftness baseline on jalis road skill? It’s a road afterall.
Being primarily a WvW player. not having a way to get at least 25% ooc speed through a trait or through a passive on a decent utility will be a deal breaker for me putting any serious energy into the class.
You DO have a way. It’s called Superior Rune of the Traveler x6. They aren’t there just for show you know. You not wanting to take them is not the same as not having a way to have that speed. You simply take what you value more. Speed and other bonuses or damage or w/e ?
It was compared to thief that is by far the fastest class ooc. It was never said that revenant is meant to be slower then mesmer or guardian.
Having to rely on runes to travel is pretty bad, expecially in wvw
It’s not. It’s called having an option. This is all here for a reason. Work with other classes, use traveler, or don’t. If ANet wanted all of us move constantly at +25-33% they would just increase movement speed.
It was also never said that he is meant to be fast or that he cannot be slower. Everything is a trade-effect. You give up something to have something else instead. Make your choice.
There are many effects that grant speed, swiftness on crit/kill/swap etc.
Professions with easy access to swiftness value these a lot less than other effects. Maybe we will value it more having less or no access to it.
Guy, I appreciate your perspective but please learn to read. Of course I know about Traveler but as I stated I am looking for a trait or a passive on a utility.
The class looks interesting but it also has to perform the way “I” want it to before I will put serious time into it. If it doesn’t then no big deal I have other classes that I enjoy. I never said do this or do that. I simply stated that particular aspect is a deal breaker for “ME” and my play style. It may not be for you, and that is your prerogative.

I also don’t agree rangers are hated, though I think I know what you mean.
They are more often made fun of, or regarded as weak.
Yeah that is exactly what I am referring to…especially in WvW in any group greater than 5.
Just returning to the game I was a bit taken a back by how much they are not META.
Sorry I don’t buy into the whole power Ranger is the noob spec. Especially if you are using sword /dagger. You have to be on your kitten to be good with that weapon combo.
Why is there so much of it?
I just recently returned to GW2 after a long breakittenep hearing things like Rangers aren’t good for any game play.
I primarily pvp and WvW and keep hearing Rangers are pretty terrible. And I do see that they are under represented. In WvW I think I have really only seen maybe 10 other Rangers in the last 2 weeks.
I was told yesterday that most Ranger players are kittene but they still mostly win with LB and that is why people hate them.
I don’t really buy into the whole underpowered mind set but just curious where all this came from?
I haven’t played the Rev yet, but I am definitely interested. I am not sure how “done” the class will be for this weekend but I hope to get a good feel for the playstyle and hopefully it will be what I am looking for.
That is not without saying that as primarily a WvW, PvP player I already have some concerns that Rev will not fulfill my requirements.
Looks like a really cool class. When is the next beta weekend, would love to give it a go.
Why would i do it ? woudn`t that make the magic go away xD ? and fill the gw2 servers with rangers trying to run my stuff?Isn`t it better to be a little bit unique ?
My build might not work for you as well as it works for me, because the logic it makes for me may not be the same as it makes for you.
My advice is to kick it off and develop your own build wich will work for you !
Oh no doubt I agree with you. I just recently returned to the game and really just started focusing on Ranger WvW play. I just like to look at the various ways people make Ranger work. No doubt my game play would be different from yours.
Anyway. Really enjoyed the video, hope to see more. Cheers.
Land Based Spear with Shield. 3 is a ranged attacked. I would never play another class.
Nice Video mate, don’t suppose you would share your build here?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forage_
Hard to reliably use the porcine pets vs skilled opponents as you have to stop what you’re doing to pick the item up, then cast it. They offer a TON of utility though. If they ever make porcine f2s work similarly to thief steal you’ll see a ton of rangers run them.
Ah I see it…thanks. That was throwing me off.
Got kicked from game and now can’t log back in either…something going on?
Yeah he runs those traits. Pretty sure he runs a bit more toughness in his build.
this would reflect closer to it.
Cool, +1 / 15 char
Can one of you guys explain to this Ranger newb what is happening in the video at about 5:05 to 5:12? He gets another skill bar with a single skill on it and then he goes into stealth without using hunters shot?
Thanks.
