I really enjoy the design of the map. It’s interesting, the events flow well, and it’s easy enough to figure out how to navigate it. I found a good mix of things that I could solo, things that I could easily escape/avoid solo, and things that I could join in with a group effort if I wanted or needed to. I actually abandoned the story for a while to simply explore and enjoy events. It was a pretty good experience.

I am with other comments that this map would lend itself really well to guild events and that we do need more of those added in. We need fresh content to really encourage guilds to play together, even better if there could be an alliance system implemented so different guilds can work together and get credit. There’s a lot of potential here. It would also be a good map for new dungeon content, which I would love to see.

The story was good. A few characters surprised me, and it kept me engaged the entire time I played it. The final fight was punishing in a really annoying way. I felt challenged for a little bit, and then I just felt annoyed. The constructs were little above and beyond necessity.

Overall, though, I am really happy with this installment and can’t wait to get back in to work for some of the rewards I really want.

I was fine with everything but the jade constructs. Once I had a rhythm down, it was good, but another construct would spawn and kitten that. It’s a punishing fight and I appreciate that to some extent, but the constructs were overkill, imo.

a world with no transmutation charges?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SyllyReth.2495

opinions I guess, but to me being able to change clothes like I do in real life, depending on the place and hour of the day makes me much more attached to my character.

Agree with this. I’ve already “paid” for the skins and they are there in my wardrobe. Why should I have to pay to change my clothes into something else I already own?

I sort of understand (not really) the claim of needing the charges for money because people will pay for them (will they…. really?) but to that end, I’d rather have the option to buy an infinite use wardrobe so I don’t have to deal with transmutation charges at all anymore. Though, ideally, reskinning should be free and unlimited as long as you own the skin.

Cold resistance

I did eventually go back and test a second time, and the second time I used the materials I got the cold resistance buff. That means twice the materials for one buff, and the timing on it is horrible. I had to do it twice because of the bug, so used twice the materials, and then because I did it so close to reset I only got ~2.5 hours out of the buff before I had to do it again.

Also, the only way I’ve seen to get the firestones is through karma, which makes the permanent nodes for the shrine kind of redundant. I definitely wasted time gathering the stuff just to find out I could (had to) buy the stone anyway.

More Inventory/Wallet/Material space

in Living World

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

The biggest thing I want is for my toys and elixirs/tonics to be unlockable in my wardrobe like minis, finishers, and skins are. I would save a ton of bank space/inventory space if this one change was made. There’s also the benefit of being able to grab the elixirs from anywhere on any character without going to a bank to grab them.

The finishers tab is the perfect example of how to do it well, too, as it has infinite unlocks as well as limited use unlocks placed easily and organized well.

I would also absolutely love to have a keyring for all my keys. Those changes would make it manageable, but I wish there was an easier way to handle map currencies/materials like the berries, suet, etc. I have to really be on top of my inventory management game to handle this.

SyllyReth.2495

The only thing I had a problem with was that I had to cook the elixir twice to get my cold resistance yesterday, and it used 2x the materials. Other than that, everything went fine and I didn’t encounter any other bugs.

I love the map. It can be frustrating to navigate at times, but it is absolutely beautiful. The variety of landscapes built in a frozen world really surprised me, and I spent a lot of time just walking around to look at things. It’s really pretty.

I’ve felt a lot more engaged with the story through Season 3, as well. This chapter was another great one, in my opinion. I’ve been really enjoying the story, and the interactions with Aurene are the perfect, cute break from all of the really serious dragon stuff. I enjoyed the first part of this chapter a lot. I love seeing the way our interactions with Aurene are helping her.

I really don’t have anything negative to say about this chapter aside from the fact that I really just wish it was longer. I understand why it isn’t, and I understand splitting the story into chapters. I just want it all at once xD Otherwise, great job with keeping me engaged, and excellent work on the beautiful map!

GW2 should have been human only.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

Sylvari were the crowning reason why I preordered GW2. Had I only been able to play as human, I likely would not have purchased the game as early as I did, if at all. I’m a human in my daily life. I want to be something else in game, and to this day I only have one human character – a mesmer that I hardly touch. That was because I tried out each of the races for the personal story.

I find the game much more interesting when I am partied with varying races, and I, personally, find humans to be boring “vanilla” options.

In short, fewer options would hurt the game, not help it.

Feedback Thread: Summer Update (26 July 2016)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

The new PvE map is incredible. I was trying to focus solely on finishing my story, but found myself completely distracted with exploring the map. It is beautiful. It seemed chaotic and disjointed when I was first dumped into it, but getting the hang of travel through the map made it a lot easier. I haven’t been in love with the idea of more vertical maps, but I find this one much easier to navigate than others. Maybe I’m just getting used to the travel mechanics, but A+ job on the map. I am sad that we didn’t get the chance to explore it BEFORE everything went boom, but it’s still a wonderful place to explore.

I also found the map content and the story content to be challenging, but not impossible. I wasn’t constantly dying trying to get from point A to point B on my own, which is a problem I still sometimes have in the HoT maps. I didn’t feel like I had to wait around for 20+ people to finish events before I could explore. It was easy enough to either stop and participate or head on to my next goal. I thought the balance between group content and challenging, but doable solo exploration was really well done, better than I expected, tbh.

So, so thankful for the QOL changes, especially the salvaging. That was a change that I had been waiting for for a really long time and I am glad to see it finally came around. Little fixes like that make a huge difference to people like me.

I haven’t tried the new pvp map or gone into wvw to try out the balance fixes. I’m not that into pvp modes anyway, and the changes haven’t enticed me to get into it so far, so I’ll leave that up to the people that play those areas.

I’ve really enjoyed this update. I do wish it was a little longer, especially since the statement that releases would be spaced out more, but it was an excellent start and I’m still excited to play in the new map even though I’ve finished all the achievements for it. I like the events.

If each leyline energy ball had 3-5 “charges” that could be picked up, that would relieve some of the stress. The event seems to rely on the inquest morale, though, and not the amount of leyline energy collected, so I see no real reason why they can’t be individual spawns like the harvesting nodes are, especially since there are achievements reliant upon picking up so many of them.

SyllyReth.2495

I was thinking it would be neat if they added some sort of reward track for PvE leveling. It wouldn’t have to be the same for PvP or WvW since they are trying to incentivise those game modes, too, but I’ve been really disappointed in simply losing XP since I finished my mastery lines in certain areas. Something really should be done for those 80 level characters we still love to play. I loved the masteries. They were super rewarding for me, but now I feel like nothing I do really matters, even though I KNOW I’m at max level. It just rubs me the wrong way.

Even if we just got a chest of random materials at every new looped level, that would be better than literally nothing for the XP we earn.

[Suggestion] Repair armor QoL update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

Armor damage is, indeed, a bit redundant without the actual cost to fixing it. It’s a time sink… sort of… if you consider waypointing somewhere to fix it and then rejoining whatever event you were in, but it’s not even really that. I’m not sure what the functionality of armor damage is anymore aside from a relic of the past.

I definitely agree with the QOL improvement of automatic repair when going to an anvil. It’s not a big deal, really, as you said, but it would get rid of one minor annoyance.

SyllyReth.2495

I am perfectly fine and happy with the expansions as long as they keep doing living story and other updates in the between time. The most common comment I see is people wanting more content and there are these weird down times we have without any content being added to the game. HoT was clearly not enough to keep the bulk of people occupied and exploring until the next thing comes out.

In addition, we have a bunch of new players that have never played season 1. I know that some sort of way to add it to the story journal is being discussed, but not a priority because of the amount of work going into it.

Season 1 content is already prepared, ready to go. They should bring it back to be replayed (and played for the first time by new people) in the meantime.

Personally cant imagine anyone reaching the end of one of these things and saying. kitten I enjoyed that…

^ Same. I used to hate JP, but I started doing them and ended up loving them. I do them for fun sometimes now.

On topic, I wouldn’t complain if gliding was active in every JP. Now that I’ve gotten used to it, I use it as a standard part of my mobility and tend to mess up when it doesn’t deploy as expected.

Of course, then there’s the issue of skipping portions of the puzzles, etc etc, and if gliding were to be active in every puzzle, then people should definitely have a toggle to turn it off for themselves.

I liked the old daily/monthly system better than the one we have now. I liked the more general goals instead of the specifics. I get that they are trying to spread people out into the world and into other gaming options, but it all just feels too forced for me.

“Oh, you are leveling/mapping in Shiverpeaks? Tough. The daily forager is in Ascalon!”
“Oh, you were mapping Kryta? Well, how about VISTA VIEWER IN ORR?!”

It’s a little annoying that I can’t play where I want to play and have to interrupt what I am doing to chase after very specific dailies. I understand the reasoning for it, and I get that it’s only a few minutes, but it still forces me to to sidetrack. I actually LIKE double daily fractal because it kills two birds with one stone. I wouldn’t complain if the system was reworked (again) and the double daily was removed, though, as it seems to be something most people want to be changed.

I just wish the dailies offered more simple variety like they used to, and I actually didn’t even mind chasing the monthlies either. We just seemed to have more choice (which I guess was the problem?) with the old system.

good and bad about guild wars anymore

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

some of the good things Anet has done in guild wars.
1. great art work.
2 put out a long awaited expansion.
3. gave us plenty to do.
4. gave us lots of choices in building our toon.
5.Gave us place to voice our opinions.
6. gave us a better way to sell items.
7. gave us many options of game play.
8. added small areas while waiting for expansion through living story.
9. added finding a group easier.
10. made it nice with world events.

now for the bad
1. did away with the biggest part of living story.
2. destroyed trait system.
3.focused to much on pvp and wvw not pve.
4. didn’t keep promises from guild wars 1.
5. forgets their loyal fans whom built one of the best communities online.
6. keeps negative feedback away from the forums, basically only good feedback stays.
7. taking nodes away so its harder to gather needed crafting materials.
8. focus on new players not loyal fans.
9. forcing us into certain builds.
10. taking away the parts of the game that most people enjoy and trying to force us all to pvp or wvw which isn’t what a lot of us play for.

things they could do better
1. let us have all our traits back.
2. respect their community.
3 .nurf the proper things like skill damage instead of everything else.
4. better drop rate.
5. more more attention to open world content.
6. notifying people with gm letting them know why they are being banned ( pulled to jail cell with gm for discussion)
7. more individual definition for the players.

i gave good and bad and a few suggestions to make a game i loved go back to its glory. this was a game worth every dime i spent at one time and now i’m at the point if i’m going to spend anymore of my money on it or not. there will have to be some changes for me to be convinced to spend my money on anymore of their products. which for me is a very sad thing

ftfy

I agree with some of your points, but disagree with others. For instance, PvE gets tons of attention, but WvW is getting especially stale (something that I hope changes with the upcoming expansion pack). We still have yet to see all the fine tuning, and maybe (don’t get your hopes up?) ANet will have some nice WvW surprises for us aside from those mentioned.

I am primarily a PvE player and I have found that I still have plenty to do, but when I go into WvW especially, I am familiar with the maps and the flow of battle because it has been that way for so long. Something needs to shake it up a bit. PvP and WvW need more attention, not less. I get that many people (myself included) consider PvE to be the primary focus of the game, the meat, whereas PvP and WvW are considered the side dishes. That doesn’t mean they can be ignored in favor of PvE, nor should they.

I’ve also seen plenty of negative feedback remain on the forums. I don’t fault them for condensing threads when every single thread on a page talks about the same subject. It just makes it easier to see, even if it does get a little long. For worry #9 under the bad, I’ve found that my ranger now has several viable PvE builds to choos from instead of just sticking him into one that works the best for X content. It’s an improvement, imo.

I do like your idea for ban notification, but you have to consider time resources as well. It sounds like you are talking about an in-game mode of communication. I believe that opening a ticket and discussing matters with support has worked quite well for most people in the past. Also, ANet has shown that they’ve been listening to negative and positive feedback alike with the update to the expansion pack. I know there are still dissenting voices, and that is fine, but ANet did make a change. Every game is going to have good and bad qualities. The important thing is to make sure everyone continues to discuss those matters and that is what the forums are for.

As soon as he announced the preorder was up I purchased the Ultimate version. So did two of my friends/guildies. About an hour later another guildie purchased the Ultimate edition as well. I am really happy with my investment in the base game and I still find enjoyable things to do. I play with my friends every day, after all this time, and I’ve played since beta weekends even then.

I was lucky enough to get one of the beta portals from Silverwastes and I had an absolute blast playing through the test content. I am aware that it was only a percentage of the content, but what I found there had me excited enough to feel that the $100 price tag (with extra goodies that other people might not care about, but I DO care about – I LOVE minis) was totally worth it.

Now that the blogs have gone up with more information about Guild Halls I couldn’t be more excited. I have a relatively small guild, and the way that things are explained seems like it is going to make things SO much easier for my small guild – Less than 20 people. The change with guild currency and the way unlocks work thrill me. I hope my expectations won’t be dashed, but it sounds promising so far! I, personally, wasn’t surprised at the $50 price point, and I had hit the nail right on the head with my prediction that the ultimate/special edition would be $100, so it really wasn’t a shock to me at all. I can, however, understand why players that planned on purchasing the standard edition are upset that it doesn’t even have a free character slot. There’s a new class coming out. Every edition should have a free slot with it.

However, I am going to enjoy the betas and then I am going to super enjoy the content when it comes out. I’ve only ever regretted one prepurchase in my life so far, and that wasn’t from ANet.

I think it’s a little weird, and maybe short-sighted, that the basic/standard edition of the game doesn’t include an added character slot. In my opinion (and I’ve already prepurchased the Ultimate) it should at least include a character slot for the new class. Most MMOs offer this, and I think that was a big disappointment to see that the base edition did not include something that was frankly expected as the norm for the genre. Other than that, it seems like just changing the wording in the description would unruffle some feathers.

A character slot should definitely be provided in ALL of the editions, though.

This was my favorite event chain. There is plenty of evidence from the very beginning of the red hylek being violent to the other hylek races if they don’t get their way. The evidence of this is all over the jungle areas (caledon, brisbane, etc). For me, it fit right in with what we already know about them.

For me, I started the event chain from the beginning and followed it through and it was very clear that this was a forcible, violent conversion. I liked this event series much better than the Pact one on the opposite side of the map. The story was richer, the characters were more interesting. I loved it.

Just wanted to Know As to WHY WE CANT

I have a love/hate relationship with map completion. I love it as long as I don’t try to push out 100% in one day, which I can sometimes get wrapped up in. I do my best when I actually focus on what’s around me (especially in maps I don’t go to often) and take it leisurely.

If an option ever were to be implemented for OPTIONAL account-wide world completion unlocks, then the players choosing to do so would have to opt out of receiving addition rewards for single maps and the gift at the end. You shouldn’t be rewarded for 0 work. I do map completion and hoard my gifts, but account-wide should only get the reward once.

inspecting and dueling

I am assuming that you mean gear inspecting by “inspecting.” That’s something a lot of players have been asking for, and a lot of players are against because it invites toxicity within the community. We already have plenty of “ping gear or kick” dungeon runs and that seems to work perfectly fine for those running those dungeons. I am in the “no” camp on this one.

As for dueling, we don’t have it yet and have no official word on it. I used to be firmly in the “no” camp on this, but would be willing to reconsider my personal stance if there were ways to turn off the dueling option, or only certain well marked areas where dueling even became an option so the rest of PvE could be unbothered by it. I think placing a dueling arena (like a gladitorial theater) in Lion’s Arch wouldn’t be a bad idea. It gives the duelers the option to duel while letting the rest of us be left alone. I am not in favor of open world PvE dueling anywhere, but a labeled arena would be acceptable.

Liadri mini and Blazing Light title. I busted my kitten trying to beat her and learned a LOT of things about my class and my own abilities while doing so. It’s my most prized virtual possession now.

A concern from a Guild War 2 Lover!

I’m not going to lie. I struggle with some of the harder content. It took me ages and several different builds to beat Liadri. It took me a while (and a lot of help) to learn dungeon paths. When I first started playing, I sucked the MOST at JQ. There were times when I didn’t enjoy beating my head against a while to struggle through the difficult content.

Having said that, I actually do enjoy learning my professions and coming up against new challenges. I don’t want an uphill battle with every single thing I do, but I like to feel like I am improving. I am hoping that we will have a nice mix of content moving forward.

Here’s to 1,000 more!

edit: I tried to get the picture with my ranger (who is 1,000) but he’s stuck in Frostgorge with a connection error. My Mesmer was the best I could do.

How Do You Utilize Alts?

Right now I am utilizing alts for 100% map completion to get the gifts. Then, I figured since I have multiples of some of my favorite professions I will spec each of them to a specific task and when I do content they are optimized for, that’s the character I will use.

I still main a Sylvari Ranger, though, and he’s my favorite out of all the characters I have made so far. He does well in PvE and holds up fairly well in dungeons, too. I use my Asura Necro in PvP, and sometimes toss my Human Mesmer into EotM or WvW
