I wish we could have a more active hand in rebuilding Lion’s Arch. I enjoyed wandering around, but I’d like it better if there was some sort of event or something to actually DO.

SAB was terrible. I hate it and so does a lot of the community. Just we don’t whine on the forums like a spoiled child when we don’t get something.

I hated SAB and can think of a million things I’d rather do than play SAB… Like going through Not So Secret JQ from beginning to end over and over again for a month.

Thing is, if SAB comes back… no one is forcing me to play it. No one is forcing me to buy a continue coin. No one is forcing me to jump into the little box. I don’t HAVE to participate in it at all.

I say bring it back. I don’t think it should be a permanent thing, though, because then the novelty wears off, and as it stands now I’ve tried it a few times when it was active. I just hate it.. I like achievements, though so… I think it would be a good REPEATED event, either every year or like… twice a year maybe? I do think it should come back regularly, though, because there are so many people that do enjoy it.

Thing is, if you don’t personally enjoy something then don’t do it. Let those that actually enjoy that aspect play and enjoy it.

The guild chat thing is really annoying, but I main a ranger and have even less control over my pet now since it doesn’t recognize passive status anymore. The “F2 trick” doesn’t work for me, and hasn’t worked for me. My passive pet attacks no matter what.

Hopefully we’ll both see the fixes we want soon.

request for removal: asura warrior threat

My Asura Necromancer says it occasionally. It’s my favorite shout because it’s the only thing that is so innately Asuran in the fact that they (as a culture) truly believe they are more intelligent and advanced than the other races. They value intelligence above everything else. I’m not for removing this specific shout because it fits their fantasy culture so well.

Honestly, if it causes that much of a problem for you, just roll a different race. It’s not just the Asura warriors that say it, though.

Crafting materials are fine going into the crafting slots, but I agree that all the new currencies need to have wallet slots instead.

It would be so much easier if they would combine bandit crests, geodes, and other stuff like that (similar open world PvE currencies) into a singular currency, too, but I doubt that will ever happen.

WvW no longer required for world completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

I have done world completion on 3 characters “the old way.” I’m on a server that doesn’t do very well with WvW (not the worst, but we are red a LOT) and found it would sometimes take me months unless I found a group of people also working for World Completion. I got lucky a couple of times at 3 or 4 am local time, but outside of that it was nothing more than horrible frustration and crawling slowly forward. I hated it.

Now, I can get world completion on all my characters (something I planned to do eventually anyway) and then play WvW when I feel like it instead of when I HAVE to. Honestly, being forced there for world completion made me enjoy it a lot less than when I played on my own terms with my finished level 80 character. I am excited for WvW to become enjoyable for me instead of just a product of something I HAVE to wade through to get at different content.

Besides, last I checked, Gift of Battle is still required for legendaries. People will still try WvW, and if they don’t want to, then they really shouldn’t be forced into it anyway. It’s a game, not a chore.

A Treatise on Tipping

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

I almost always tip my Mesmers, but when I’m the Mes portalling people to any end goal, I have never asked for or expected tips. If someone does tip me, that’s great, but I do it because I remember being so frustrated by some of the jump quests in my earlier days of playing that I would quit for days.

Now that I am way better at jumping, I am always willing to port people (at NO cost to them) to whatever objective they might need. The best thing to do is if you expect/want tips then ask for them. People that are happy to tip will use your service and do so, and those that don’t want to pay for the portal will wait for another mesmer to drop one later or in a different map spawn.

Younger characters? Eh…. tread carefully there. That’s a box that should probably not be opened for all the above mentioned reasons.

Staff guardian is great range profession. You know, gandalf style. And ppl will love you because there’s no way to success without good support and healer on your back.

  1. Don’t listen to this guy.
  2. Listen and put /sarcasm after the post.
  3. Listen and don’t join my groups.

I don’t play with pugs, I have my selfrespect at pretty high lvl.
It’s my alt account so you won’t even know if I’m joining you

guardian is great profession and exploring the secret ways of range support is vital for every serious player

Our staff guardian mows down those blooms in TA like butter. It’s great to have him on our side.

OP, out of the three, I like Necro best with Mesmer pulling a close second, but I use her primarily for portal and feedback and that’s, well… basically it. I’ve just started leveling an elementalist and enjoy it as well, but haven’t really played her enough to make a solid decision on that.

I main Ranger and find it hard to pull away from playing him.

would you like PVP in PVE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

I wouldn’t be opposed, necessarily, if say Lion’s Arch (or any of the cities) had a clearly defined arena marked out for this purpose and it was completely voluntary and not linked with any PvE progression requirements/achievements. If I don’t HAVE to participate in it, but can if I WANT to, then that’s fine.

Same for dueling. Personally, I don’t want open dueling because it would break my immersion to be wandering around seeing duels everywhere, but if it was limited to a specific marked arena in certain locations (that I could avoid if I wanted to) then that would be fine.

Having said that, I’m not really sure about the reason for it when we have the existing PvP modes we have and those could just be tweaked, expanded, and improved upon.

Solo-Instance for Dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

I like taking on new challenges for myself, so I’ve tried several dungeon paths either on my own or with 1-2 other people. Some attempts were successful and others not so much. I would, in fact, like to see options for solo dungeon paths, but it isn’t a huge priority for me. There are other things – improvements, changes, additions – I’d rather see first, but I would be thrilled if solo paths made an appearance. I’m not really sure what adjustments would need to be made to which areas, but I think it would be awesome to offer more playability options to those solo-ers out there.

Grouping up with strangers has kept me out of most of the dungeons until now. I met a couple awesome friends in game and feel like the added buffer of them plus LFG makes me feel less anxious about it. We’ve had some really great LFG experiences and some not so great ones, but I’d still definitely like to be able to head into a dungeon solo.

Depending on the expanded information about the content we are supposed to be getting between now and the release of said expansion, I might be willing to pay as much as $60. I definitely appreciated the living story updates for what they were, and I think if the model continues in this way it would be a fantastic addition. Having the living world updates between large expansions/big releases is a great way to add story and have something to do.

Personally, I wouldn’t call living story a failure or take the expansion as evidence that ANet is calling living world a failure either. Both release models have benefits, and people are still going to speed through the expansion content as well. I know I am going to pack as much of the new stuff into as little time as I can because I like to experience everything and test it out all at once.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

Even though this is a joke thread I can’t help wonder how players should act.

Pretend nothing happened? Mordremoth’s minions are running around doing jumping puzzles and making money in the TP? WTF? Or perhaps some bad roleplaying about taking over the world.

Honestly, I can’t see how a Sylvari player is supposed to reconcile any of this.

This is where I’m at with it, and it looks like we won’t be getting any answers for the PC Sylvari until HoT releases, whenever that is.

I don’t RP with my characters, aside from a running inner monologue, so I’m safe in that respect, but this (highly suspected) revelation is causing some interesting problems for play. I’ve seen both sides, with people totally ignoring the revelation, and then a darker side with people booting Sylvari from parties and pugs in game.

[SPOILERS] Season 2 Finale [merged]

Burning down the Pale Tree will only make the situation worse.

Ciera/Scarlet was away from the Pale Tree’s influence and fell under Mordy’s pull. There was evidence that Aerin had gone Soundless. The dragon attacked the Pale Tree.

The Pale Tree, under guidance and protection from the teachings of Ventari, acts as a buffer to help protect the Sylvari that maintain and nurture their connection to her. Sure, there’s a risk that Mordremoth’s influence could corrupt the pale tree and, through her, corrupt all known Sylvari born from her, but for now her protection still stands. It would be a pretty big gamble to think matters are going to be fixed by simply burning down the tree.

Not to mention, there is evidence of Sylvari born from other trees with no connection to the Dream that our Sylvari know. They are probably going to be the bigger problem.

Commander Tag Update

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

Honestly, I would be happy if they just implemented a way to change tag color so that different groups trying to complete different objectives within the same map can differentiate themselves from others. I tag up for different guild events because the icon is easy to read on the map, not because I want to confuse a troop into following me. A color-coded system or some way to indicate what you are doing while tagged so others can see it (side from shouting across map chat) would be great.

Additionally, I think it would be awesome if there was a favorites list or something – aside from simply adding a commander to your friends list – that would alert you in some way when you were on the map with a favorited, tagged up commander, or may just change the commander icon for you personally depending on which commander “list” you add them to. Yes, some commanders are great and others are just terrible, but keep in mind, too, that some commander actions/decisions that you don’t personally like might be an action someone else agrees with or enjoys. If it was a personalized system, then that would allow each individual to keep track of their personal favorite commanders and find them on maps, even in “tag spam.” Bonus points if an individual option could add culling/ignoring of tags not “favorited.” There’s a lot less chance for abuse in a personalized system than an open ranking system, too.

I was sad because I was really hoping to get to know more about her. I was excited at the introduction of another character that was , essentially, a clean slate and had (could have had) so much potential. I feel like they cheapened the entire story by offing her before we even got to know her.

Then again, maybe we’ll find out later she isn’t really dead and something just caused us to believe she was to start splitting up the group. Something just doesn’t feel right about her death to me. It seemed awkward, sudden, and out of place, and I guess it’s just wishful thinking, but I REALLY want it to be something more than just bad writing.

Skip Dialogue

in Living World

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

I really enjoyed the story, too, and I thought they did a lot better with the characterization and dialogue – though, I am still looking for a little more depth to our main characters. Very hopeful about what future releases hold in that respect.

I didn’t get all of the achievements done one off on the repeat of the story. The second time through, I still enjoyed hearing/reading the dialogue and seeing what little things I may have missed, but the third time through I was ready to just skip it and get my achievements so that, if I wanted to, I could revisit the story part of it later on my own.

I would love to have a skip button in replays of the instance, something that I could choose to use or ignore depending on how I felt during the replay. It would definitely improve my experience because if I am going after an achievement, the achievement is all I am thinking about anyway instead of paying attention to story. Get in, get it done, get out.

Jumping Feedback Thread

in Living World

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

The first year the Zephyrite crystals were released, I tried once, failed, and didn’t go back again. I had figured what was the point of beating my head against a wall when there was so much else for me to do/explore. This year when the Zephyrite stuff came back, I was more practiced with game mechanics and decided that I was going to make it to the top no matter what. Turned out I was making the aspects a LOT harder than they needed to be and really ended up enjoying the release this time around.

That said, I enjoy the aspects as a novelty. I understand why they are in this zone, as the Zephyrites have crashed there, but I can also see why people are opposed to having to do this. The big jump puzzle is not required for anything but the dive and the achievement for the jump puzzle. I initially thought (upon arrival in the zone) that it was how to get to the vista as well, but a little wandering proved that wasn’t the case. Once I stopped and looked around, I realized that the map was easy enough to navigate if I just slowed down and stopped trying to rush through everything.

I am hitting the map at between 75-90fps, though, so I can’t speak for anyone with lag issues.

I enjoy the JQ. I enjoy using the aspects sparingly, but I don’t want to see them in loads of future updates. I also hope that somewhere along the season we can see the Zephyrites start to rebuild things and repair their fractured crystals. All of this content would be easier without the time limit, but I understand the story reasons for it being there. Am I in love with it? No, but I have managed to work around it for now. I would have preferred no time limit, though. If I am on my Mesmer, however, I ask if people need ported anywhere because of reading the issues on the forum. I really don’t mind doing it, either.

-An event calendar (that you can invite guildies and non-guildies to events, and not only does it mark in on that player’s calendar if accepted, but it sends them an in-game mail the day of the event reminding them).

This is something I would love to see. It can sometimes be difficult to round up and contact guildies aside from the ones I’m actually friends with irl, and having an event calendar would make it so much easier, especially with reminder mails. I would love to be able to organize events in game.

I’m also pretty sold on Guild Halls and GvG being added in at some point. This doesn’t really affect me, but it seems like a lot of people would really like these features, and it would give something to play around with a bit even though I’m not interested in active GvG on a personal level. I’m behind it because of the number ofpeople that seem to want it and it wouldn’t impact my personal play at all.

[Poll] Rate Season 2 (so far)

in Living World

Posted by: SyllyReth.2495

SyllyReth.2495

The release definitely isn’t perfect, and there were big chunks of season 1 that I enjoyed, but it’s easy to tell that they have listened and made huge improvements between season 1 and season 2.

They improve the direction and story and are finally giving us a little insight into Scarlet’s madness instead of just some vague hints. I didn’t completely hate Scarlet the first time around like a lot of people did, but I am glad that they aren’t just bringing her back as the main villain again. At least, it doesn’t seem like they are going to, but I am sure we’ll be hearing about her for a while. I’m glaid that Taimi has something substantial to do now.

My friends and I ran through it together and had a blast, and I’ve played through the story again myself, slower this time, to try and catch all the hidden surprises and work out achievements. I do hope that there will be a few bigger world events in through the life of this season, but I was really glad to see it wasn’t about leading the zerg with a leash, and then subsequently changing the encounters so they couldn’t be zerged. This was definitely a nice change so far.

I am really hopeful and really looking forward to the upcoming installations for this season. I’m sure that there are going to be things that I don’t like, and some things that I really love, but that’s the way video games are. I’m overall optimistic and definitely enjoying myself so far. I don’t have all the achievements yet, but I did manage to best the jq. I found myself wanting more story when this one ended, so I guess they are doing something right.

I wouldn’t mind a JQ to get to the dragon, or into the dragon’s lair, and it could even be bordering on difficult territory, but a jump quest ON the actual dragon is a little much, in my opinion. I am all for more challenging content, but jumping across a rolling dragon (even slowly) sounds like a doomed failure to me. Not that I wouldn’t try it a million times just to say I could. I do agree that the dragon fights should be more dynamic, difficult, and interesting with different mechanics to play with, but I don’t want to ride an Elder Dragon. Maybe a jump quest to get up to different weapons for phases of the fight… something like that…

We had fun, even though we selfishly used the platform for purposes other than farming, and some farmers even joined in, waiting in the queue and talking with us, giving us tips and pointers, cheering us on. It was great.

Maybe next time around they can put a “private gauntlet ticket” in the gemstore to smooth the farmers’ feathers

Best and Worst of GW2 -- An Opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Best: No Sub

Worst: Reward Structure

^

I have to agree here. I love that there isn’t a subscription fee and that I am not (or at least don’t FEEL) penalized or like I am losing money if I decide not to play for a week or month or whatever. I can come back without having to “re-activate” or find money for it every month. I can spend when I want, IF I want, or not. I enjoy that.

The reward structure leaves something to be desired, and it seems that every time people find a way to get the rewards they want ANet comes out and says “This wasn’t intended!” and “fixes” it, which is a real bummer. Risk/reward needs to be rethought and then we’ll be on the right track to something great.

I actually like the in-game community a lot more than other MMOs I’ve played in the past. Typically I find myself in the middle of a group of great players and my fondest memory so far is helping lead a PUG against Tequatl…. and winning. Still, there’s good and bad, so I wouldn’t count community as a ~best, but it is up there for me.

I had to admit that I thought this was going to be really fun and interesting to do. I’ve only leveled 2 characters to 80 with the old trait system, and once I created my build I pretty much left it alone unless I switched content. I was under the impression that having to “hunt” traits was going to make it more interesting to play with builds and play with those traits. I was wrong, and it is a disaster.

One problem with the new trait system is that certain traits force people into content they don’t want to play. It’s bad enough that WvWers have to go into PvE for things, or that PvPers have so few options when it comes to dailies or map choice, or even that PvEers have to play WvW to get things. Forcing people into modes they don’t enjoy isn’t really the greatest way to go about things, in my opinion. The trait system, if not overhauled again entirely, could benefit from making each trait able to be acquired in a wider variety of ways. Right now, it’s just complete X task or pay X gold. Why can’t it be complete X, Y, or Z task or pay X gold? That would give people choice in the matter and is a good compromise option, I think.

The best option is to unlock love level traits automatically and lower the level that people can start playing with their traits again. Keep the grandmaster traits behind a lock and make people work for them. This allows you to build more grandmaster/elite traits in the future and gate them behind other content. Experimenting with builds isn’t fun because of this new system. You have to wait for the ability to use traits to be unlocked, and then you have to go hunting for specific traits, ruling out the traits you REALLY want because something that should be available at 30 (or close to) isn’t available because it’s in a 60-70 area or requires beating a champ that only spawns so often.

The traits system as it stands now has become one of my biggest disappointments in this game. I enjoy challenging content. I’ve been busting my butt trying to beat Liadri, and loving every attempt as I learn more about the characters I play and how to tweak those classes, but the trait system isn’t really challenging. It’s just tedious work or a huge gold sink. Honestly, I would rather pay for trait resets than do things the way they are now. As it stands, I plan on getting to 80, unlocking the specific traits I need for my main build choice, and never changing or experimenting again.

I was probably about 50/50 on LS stuff once it started. I didn’t love it in the beginning, so there was a lot of stuff I missed until I started doing it just for achievements. I found a bunch of content in the LS that I ended up liking, but there was still some that I was never really in love with.

I feel like there should be some way to make the LS replayable, or at least parts of it. The content is already created so couldn’t it be modified and put into some sort of dungeon instance? It seems like they could have a lot of fun with it and maybe give the Asuras a little more story and pull by figuring out a way to send people to past content, even PS instances. A LOT of stuff happened, and it really is a shame that it can’t be revisited. That’s a lot of hard work that existed once never to be seen again, except in the memories of the people that played it.

I am cautiously optimistic about LS S2, hoping that the devs have listened to our complaints, praises, and input and put together something really spectacular. Maybe they are even working on some way to replay former content and just haven’t told us yet because they don’t want the speculation to bubble up into an uncontrollable mess yet. I know that’s not the most LIKELY scenario, but I’d like to hope we are being heard, at least.

Season 1 was an experiment, and I, for one, am not yet willing to call it a complete failure worthy of total abandonment. There were certain things done correctly and other things not done so well, but either way they have a ton of feedback to sift through and, best case scenario, they are taking what we’ve said seriously. I like to hope that maybe, just maybe, parts of the LS S1 were just too far into development to take into account a lot of what the forum-goers were saying and they chose sticking to the schedule over repackaging the content while taking those suggestions into account.

I am excited and apprehensive about S2, but continuing to hope for the best. If anything, experiments take a little while to get right. I think they deserve at least this second chance to improve on S1 mistakes.

Expansion or Living story ? why

I like the idea of LS… I just want it to be done better. I hope that they’ve listened to the feedback that everyone had to give between LS 1 and LS 2. There were parts of it that I found really enjoyable and parts of it that I wasn’t so into. It’s a little depressing that I can’t replay anything that I did enjoy. There was such a great opportunity there to add a rich, flourishing story and to open new areas, jump puzzles, cities, interesting characters, and it fell short. I still don’t feel like I have a proper explanation for what I was doing either.

Mostly, I want new playable races and professions introduced in new, interesting zones. I don’t really care if that comes through an expansion or an improved LS arc.

Make Gold Un-tradeable, stop hackers/sellers

It doesn’t matter to the gold seller if they buy an item or mat that is then account bound. Put up 1 copper ore for 400g and it’s a junk item the gold seller can destroy/stack and continue to sell gold. This happens in MS all the time. Making items account bound on sale isn’t going to stop that trade. The only way your proposal would work in getting rid of gold sellers it to completely do away with the TP and make every item account/soul bound no matter how it was acquired.

[Suggestion]Player Housing :)

I’d like something that feels like my adventures, money, and hard work are shaping and changing it, especially if there were house upgrades/unlocks for different game content completed and not just gem store options.

Possibly allowing completed Renowned Heart Karma Merchants offering certain housing items, something to do with the area and level.

Being able to purchase from a farmer in Queensdale an ‘Old Wooden Chair’ for XX amount of karma or after completing the a heart in Blazeridge that Sentinel Erria allows you to purchase a ‘Dragonbrand Table’. This would allow people to work for items in their house through adventuring, being able to show of their adventure (if they wish to) through their collection of furniture.

Of course this is just one way to obtain items, there is all sorts such as crafting, housing merchants, gem store etc etc.

This is exactly the sort of thing I’d love to see as far as housing would go. It’s an extra level of immersion into the game world (especially for RPers) and would be enjoyable for me personally as well. With a system like this, there are so many different ways to obtain items with specific looks or features based on racial or geographical characteristics. It would definitely make me feel like completing that heart or discovering that zone was doing more than getting me a fraction of a percent toward map completion.

I think that when it comes to housing, if implemented, there should be a variety of ways to earn a variety of different items to cater to all playing styles. It would be cool if people could furnish their homes entirely based on the sort of content they enjoy the most, like a specific set/design for WvW completion points or merchants and other sets based off of zones/racial markers/cultural things in PvE or something else for PvP. That way people could mark their progression through the content they enjoyed most.

The more people talk about it, the more it seems like this a key bonus feature that is leaving behind some hole in the game. I think it would really make it feel like we are leaving a personal mark on the world and existing as an active part of it instead of just visiting on occasion. I know I would pay money for gems for a “hearthstone” or “house key” type item, but it would be really cool if there was some sort of progressive quest line (or achievement chain or something) to earn the end goal (housing access) in world, aside from just transferring gold to gems, I mean.

How many of you have 100% map completion?

I have 9 character slots, but only 4 active characters right now. 2 80s, but only my main has 100%. I am slowly working on it with my level 80 Mesmer, but it’s taxing the second time around.
