I saw the veteran rewards blog… not much of a reward. A character slot doesn’t make up for the excessive price tag. I am not paying $50. I’ll wait until the next expansion or a major discount before I even consider this. See you in a few years anet.
So, why to you bother to waste your time to come here and post that you’re leaving? Indeed, why does anyone do that? Why not just go?
Because I enjoyed their games and wanted to let them know how much i appreciated their work before I leave. It’s better to leave on a positive note than to just leave and be a statistic.
Yes I am leaving the game. Been with Anet since GW1. I just don’t believe the new expansion is worth the price at all. The base game was absolutely worth it, I got over 2000 hours of fun out of my $60. Very few games have that kind of potential. I’ve been looking at ESO after all their updates and got to play on a relatives account to try it out. It has improved a lot, so I think i’ll be moving to that game. Maybe after a couple years i’ll pickup HoT on sale and return once I get bored of my other games. I hope you guys enjoy the expansion, I personally just don’t think the price is worth it at this time. See you later.

Except, it seems they are not – http://imgur.com/zPywVMI | http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3a95r8/to_those_who_said_anet_will_support_people_who/
It’s confusing because in another reddit thread you have an ANet rep saying they will, as you noted.
Also, as regards HoT, the whole 30 days thing is somewhat sketchy, as ANet have been pushing sales since the xpac was announced, several months back – which is when they stated you needed to first buy the base game. So, if refunds or upgrades are going to be offered, it should be anyone who bought the game after that date, thinking they needed it – but actually didn’t.
I have no words….
In what universe is that considered acceptable to any degree? Not only is it negating any progress and work they’ve done….but it’s essentially stealing any gem purchases they have made.
This surpasses anything that even EA has done.
It’s been stated repeatedly throughout this forum that most likely, this was a fluke copy-pasted response. If you follow up with support, they will probably work with you.
It’s not a fluke. Here is a response from an actual person who clearly says the entire account is terminated, including gems or a linked HoM with no refund. http://i.imgur.com/zPywVMI.png
I’m not paying $50. They could give me 10000 gems and I still wouldn’t buy it. I am just not interested in spending that much for HoT. Either they lower the price to $30-40 or i’ll just not get the expansion. Depending on how bad the community split is at launch, I just might leave the game entirely. They tried to pull a Blizzard and it blew up in their faces.

The solution is quite simple really:
1. Give New Players the current bundle sets.
2. Give Veteran Players the same deal but instead of the core game, make it a character slot.
Same value, different demographic.
Now here is my reasoning. New Players get a bunch of character slots. The veterans do not. The New Players do not need character slots, they need the core game. The Veteran Players need character slots, for the new character type: The Revenant. So basically, by adding bundles for Veteran Players exclusively, you reward those of us that have played for a longer time than the New Players AND we continue buying gems with our hard earned cash. Which, in the long run makes you more money and we get to strut our happy rear ends around Tyria and shout the praises of how much Anet cares about us. Thus helping us sucker in New Players, which helps you make more money! isn’t tat wonderful!! Didn’t even take me like 10 minutes to think this up. I was put off by John Smith’s comment that was more of a taunt than actually helpful or sympathizing. I think the new content could be $40 Base and $60 Deluxe and I personally could care less about the “Ultimate” version (which isn’t really an Ultimate version). This leaves us Veteran Players, the ability to pay $10 for an extra character slot at a total of $50 or $70. Which ironically still makes you a bunch of money..
Should I send an application for your Marketing Position? I mean Anet, not NCsoft.. No one cares about NCsoft.. They have a tendency to ruin games.. Plus your current Marketing Team seems to be lacking right now..
It’s not the same value at all. Veteran players have to pay $110 while new players only have to pay $50. A character slot does not justify the ridiculous $50 price tag on the expansion either. There is nowhere near enough content.

It doesn’t matter what ANet meant. The players are speaking, and they have time to change it.
They WON’T remove the core game free with expansion. As bad as you think this backlash may be, that would even be worse. It would be removal of a feature, which is probably the one of the worst things you can do in a game. And it’s up for prepurchase, so there’s already money involved.
They’ve made their decision with this. The best they can do is to compensate existing players, no moving backwards.
There is this thing called a refund. They can lower the price and refund the extra that people paid. Easily done since it is digital only with very little price variation.

And now, an altered version of a Simpsons quote:
Comic Book Guy: Last night’s Heart of Thorns price was, without a doubt, the worst thing ever. Rest assured that I was on internet within minutes registering my disgust throughout the world.
Bart Simpson: Hey, I know it wasn’t great, but what right do you have to complain?
Comic Book Guy: As a loyal player, I feel they owe me.
Bart Simpson: What? They’ve given you thousands of hours of entertainment for free. What could they possibly owe you? I mean, if anything, you owe them.
Comic Book Guy: Worst thing ever.Seriously guys, it’s not even a big deal.
One key thing is wrong with your “quote.” We have all actually spent money on the game….

$50 is a lot considering how many games you can buy on steam with that amount of money. The expansion pack should have cost $10—20 for the existing players and $30 for new players. I feel really sad about this.
How long do those steam games last you? Are you still playing Goat Simulator for hours on end?
I got terraria for like $3. Spent well over 1000 hours in it, and the developer is still adding FREE CONTENT UPDATES for a game that often goes on sale for around $5. It is over 4 years old. There are numerous other games like this.

The character slot isn’t the problem at all. Adding a character slot to the cost wouldn’t change my mind. I could easily just buy more slots with gold. The problem here is $50 isn’t worth it and new players are being rewarded with way more for the price than veteran players. That is what is unacceptable.
Adding a character slot to the purchase, at the very least, justifies the extra $10 that you’re currently paying for nothing. Sure we could buy more slots for gold; but by that logic, we should just be able to buy HoT for gold. Same thing really, and I’d be okay with that.
The problem is the fact that, with the inclusion of the base game for free, HoT is essentially a standalone with less content than EotN (an expansion).
Veteran players will be paying, in total $50 (for the base game they already bought) + $50 (for the HoT expansion) = $100 for veterans, $50 for newcomers. So unless we get a refund on the base game, veterans are objectively losing an extra $50 for nothing.
The point was, character slots are an established in-game upgrade you don’t need to spend cash for. It shouldn’t be added as an excuse to boost the price of an expansion. I would rather they lower the price for people who already have the base game. I agree with the rest of what you said.

Because the higher ups would fire them if they replied with something that kittened everyone off even more. Probably waiting for a response from their superiors. Also it is after midnight where Anet is.

Wow nice find. WTF happened to you Anet? You used to be very open and consumer friendly, but this just feels scummy and dishonest.

Well I won’t be “quitting the game,” but I won’t be spending any money either. I’ll just login for dailies and events until Anet decides to lower the price. Who knows, maybe i’ll lose patience eventually and just stop playing entirely. I don’t see that happening too soon.

The price of living goes up. Minimum wage goes up. Gas prices go up.
See a pattern here?
Price of living goes up, minimum wage goes up, companies lay off thousands of workers so they are paying around the same amount as before. People have less money because of unemployment and can no longer afford the inflated prices. Yes I see the pattern.

So… Just to clarify… did an Anet dev comment on the first page of this thread to mock us and then not respond to any questions?
That is exactly what it looks like. I don’t see how it can be interpreted in any other way. It’s almost like they expected this to explode so they can get bad press and more eyes on their game before apologizing and lowering the price, making them look like the good guys.

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.
How could you not realize how ripped off a lot of us old players feel? New players get a whole game for free, while veteran players get no perks for already owning it. Where is the “free bonus” for veteran players? I’m not paying $50 for this.
Time to do vw until i get a drop. If i don’t get one, at least i’ll be getting decent gold out of it.
They are working on it. https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/579948171465531392
It just happened to me as well here in So Cal, NA. What I want to know Anet.. is.. are you going to give me my fractal rewards? cuz I was on the last fractal scale 50 when this happened… so I think either u make the gem store free, or give me my dam fractal skins.
lol, nothing like that will happen you are silly. its a server shutdown or a maint thing they forgot to post
Anet has a clever method of performing maintenance without bringing servers down. The servers only ever go down for serious emergency maintenance or hardware upgrades. Patches even go live without servers going down.
Mine did it earlier too, but i got back in. I was able to play just fine for a while, then when i tried to leave my story instance it kicked me. The servers appear to still be up, but it looks like the login server is having issues.
Not sure if this is related at all, but I also noticed that some “event caller” npc’s will follow you around and wave at you but not say anything about the event they are trying to get help for until you interact with them.
Battle crys, verbal boon and condition reactions, pet death/revival, calls for helps from low health and downed skill #4 etc. You can hear other players using these from clear across a map.
I came back after a long period of intermittent activity and found the second season of living story to be amazing. I’ve been playing Guild Wars since prophecies, and seeing it all connect is an amazing feeling. As someone who has mained a sylvari since head start, i can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. Very few games have moved me like the latest chapters of GW2. I am most definitely buying the expansion.
Ok, guys. Some of you are unhappy about this change, I can see that. BUT… quite honestly, most of you are sort of (I hate to use the word) ranting (sorry!) instead of offering suggestions.
I assure you, the team leader told me not 15 minutes ago, they will listen to suggestions.
- Does that mean you get everything you want? Probably not.
- Does that mean you should suggest something? Yes, of course! Because they’re expecting player input.
So you want lower increments? Think it through and present a suggestion! You want XYZ in the interface? Post that idea. You would rather see something else? Post what you think about that other thing. Please don’t get into the whole “I’m going to kick the devs and their little dogs, too” because it’s not doing you or us any good at all.
I’m not here to apologize. I’m here to communicate and right now, the communication is coming in without a whole lot of substance. Over to you for suggestions and constructive input!
No, the only thing that makes sense is to give us the custom amount conversion back. Fixed increments should be an option, it shouldn’t be required. Make the fixed increments the default exchange screen, but add a button that navigates to the custom conversion. That is all we want. Stop forcing these “improvements” down our throats.
Hey there,
Here are a few tidbits from the team:
- A lot of newer players had trouble with the interface. That doesn’t apply to you, you’re veterans who have been around the conversion block a time or two. But newer players will benefit from the updated system.
- The goal was to make the Gem Store more like other shopping experiences, and if you think about it, there is more of that feel to it now.
- You may be surprised to know this (I know I was) but very few people bought gems at smaller denominations than the first one offered in the new system. That’s not to say they never did, nor that there wouldn’t be the desire to do so. But overall, the current options were selected based on player purchases in the past.
- The team is going to listen to your feedback and, if and when it’s practical and desirable, they can look towards adjusting the new system to better meet your needs.
So please keep your thoughts coming on the new system. Feel free to make suggestions but please, keeping them constructive would be very much appreciated.
Unless these changes are reverted, I am boycotting your game, and will be suggesting the same thing to any friends and family. Maybe i’ll even take it a step further and start spreading the word across other games. I’ve spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours in this game, and this move is nothing but a giant slap in the face.
What does Vayne think of this?
I am 100% sure that VayneBot is already being uploaded with excuses and corporate bullkitten to calm down the situation.
Or they’ll just close the thread with the elegance of camel gunk.
That would be a huge slap in the face to their customers, and the worst possible thing they could do. If they did that i would immediately uninstall and never look back. I’m sure i’m not the only one either. It would do nothing but give them an even worse reputation.
They were RNG when they first came out? What are you talking about. Only this time they are through a Little Skritt Event NPC instead of Black Lion Chests….
And the winners of the raffle get thousands of gold from the skins while the rest get nothing for their efforts. There is A LOT more on the line this time, not just a few skins. Worst case scenario would completely destroy the in-game economy and i wouldn’t be surprised at this point if it did happen.
Impressive # of posts for about an hour.
I’m getting the feeling that people don’t like this change very much.
If you approve of the change, please weigh in and explain why. Hopefully you will not say the old system was too confusing.
Thank you very much.
I like the concept for quick and easy conversion, but there needs to be way more options. It should start at 25 gems minimum, not 400. Even then, i still prefer the custom amounts. This makes it look like a really obvious cash grab. (which it is)
I am FURIOUS about this change. Only need a few gems to buy some transmutation charges? Guess what? You’re forced to buy 70g+ worth of gems to do it. This is a disgusting system that pretty much forces you to throw away needless amounts of gold or pay up with cash. The rehashed content for halloween was bad enough, but now you force this crap down our throats? Switching around my look was my favorite thing to do, and i just needed a few gold to do it if i was out of charges. Now? I need to throw away nearly 100g on gems i don’t even need or want. I can’t even put my frustration into appropriate words. You just effectively killed the gem store for me anet. G freaking G
Did they make the end game content easier with the new feature pack?
what you did there
I
see
itErrr… what did I do there… ?
He’s insinuating that leveling new characters is endgame content in GW2.
I’m insinuating that there is no end game content.
Oh there is end game, but it consists almost entirely of mind-numbingly dull farming of vast amounts of mats/gold to craft/buy ascended and legendary gear.
As someone who has been here since beta and day 1 of head start, I would definitely tell new people to leave the game until later when all these horrible changes have been reversed or significantly improved. The new player experienced has been brutally butchered and is a shell of it’s former self. It gives a terrible first impression that you are better off avoiding. All of the over simplification of early events and the gated content is just dreadful. Don’t waste your time if you aren’t already a high level.
The cake gun is ok, but I want new minis GW1 style. The minis are a cool cosmetic addition that you can collect and display at all times. The cake gun is a party item to mess around with in town. It just isn’t the same.
They brought over a lot of the chinese client changes, XP nerfs is just one of those things. As you can see from all the anger on the forums and reddit, people are not pleased. This has sadly caused a mass exodus of players.
There is nothing wrong with using rifle on warrior, but it definitely shouldn’t be used as a primary. If you’ve run enough fractals you know when to use certain weapons. Using the same weapon all the time isn’t very good, especially if it’s ranged.
The early game changes don’t really effect me, but I am still greatly saddened by how much they butchered it. The collection rewards aren’t worth the effort of farming so many massively expensive items either. If I don’t already have an item, it’s because I had no interest in it in the first place. I’ve been playing for 2 years. I am still waiting for more REAL content. I’m sick of these tiny living story updates that have you farm for hours on end for some insignificant items. I’ll come back when theres some significant content added, like a new class, dungeons or even plant themed legendary weapons. I’ll be migrating to archeage until then.
I’m keeping my popcorn container. It’s useful for holding junk items.

You’d be surprised how many people were confused by the TP 2.0 setting default to match highest seller. They were convinced they could no longer instantly sell items and that the TP was broken.
I thought that initially too, until i took 5 mins to look at every inch of the TP. It looks pretty, but it’s clunky and cluttered. I preferred the old UI for the sake of efficiency.
I dread to go and see what changes were done to other zones (I hope not too many)
Hoo boy… make a human, right now, and walk to the first heart with the cows. I don’t want to spoil it anymore than that.
My initial reaction:
I always have Signet of the Hunt on unless I’m in a dungeon/fractals. There’s always people spamming swiftness in dungeons, so it doesn’t really matter. It’s gotten to the point where I am reluctant to play one of my characters if they don’t have a movement speed passive. I am just too used to having it.
From all the negative reactions that I have seen so far, I’m glad all my characters are 80. I was still pretty sad that they butchered some of the low level stuff to make it more simple though. I loved the extra little things you could do like feed animals and water crops. Now you just dance with a cow .
Level gating stuff also seems pointless. You could have just embedded short (but skip-able) tutorial videos into the game whenever you reach a certain level to tell people what they have access to and how to use it. I would have loved something like this while leveling up, even if I didn’t need it. It would give the early experience a more polished feel. There is no reason to lock features at all. If anything, it just feels lazy and clunky.
Detha Darkgiant, my thief. Norn T3 set apart from leggings, which are T2. The T3 leggings were a little too skimpy for my liking. Rocking an Order of Whispers dye theme.
Anet’s huge mistake was making legendary weapons Bind on Equip. The moment they made that decision, they handed control of the entire TP to rich people, exploiters and gold farmers/buyers. With so many illegitimate ways of getting legendaries and gold, the “prestige” doesn’t even exist anymore. Now rewarding free legendaries for playing a few PvP matches is just stupid. I love my Kudzu, but it doesn’t even feel as satisfying as it should. Anet is making the same mistakes as they made in GW1. If they don’t directly interfere, the economy is going to inflate so much that new players will never be able to keep up and obtain their own legendary.
I love my ranger, and am kitten good at playing it. The problem is, most rangers are bad and give us a bad reputation. Most just sit there with zerker gear and longbow behind spirits/pets. Boring and suboptimal. The spirits and pets get one shotted in nearly every situation, even with the spirit HP trait.
Ranger tips for dungeons:
-ALWAYS keep the pet on passive.
-Never leave a melee pet in combat constantly, use it’s ability when needed, then recall it. Otherwise you’ll be stuck trying to juggle dead pets, which helps no one.
-Switch out of the longbow when you are forced into skirmishing range (throwing axe range) and switch to your secondary weapon. You would think this is obvious, but i see way too many longbow rangers stay within close range with the longbow.
-Rangers are a utility based class whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Be smart and switch your slot abilities between fights to play optimally. I see too many rangers camping with signets and spirits. This leads to you not being able to cope with the situation if something goes wrong, then you get blamed.
It’s not the class that is bad, (although admittedly the traits are kind of messed up) It’s the general incompetence of most rangers. It’s the class that requires the most effort to shine, which is what i personally love about it.
As someone who put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into GW1, I am absolutely disgusted at the implementation of these Tormented weapon skins. They might as well just give their past content and lore the finger and give everyone free Oppressor’s too while they’re at it. This combined with the required spinal blades backpack nonsense makes me seriously consider leaving this game entirely.
This appears to be the real deal. You even have to farm and make one of those backpacks for the achievments to get the event chest. Screw that, i’m not going to do some annoying farm to create a back piece i’m just going to end up destroying. It’s an ugly back piece that none of my characters will ever use, and all my characters are geared 80’s, so it’s worthless for transmuting. It pretty much killed any interest i have in participating. kitten move anet.
Rampager’s can be just as good if not better than zerker if you have the right build and class. Ranger, engie, ele and necro for example are great for this. You can even mix and match both sets for great effect.
You would hate RNG too when you had to use over 2 stacks of ecto to finish your clovers.
