Guild Wars 2

What makes me not want to buy HoT? It’s a matter of principle. I don’t like how they handled the pre-purchase debacle, I don’t like how they handled this last event, I don’t like how they (in my opinion), have and continue to support sucky/shady business practices. Also, the price is a bit of an obstacle right now. I don’t like feeling like I’ve gotten a big slap in the face with almost every patch that goes into the game. They’ve rubbed me the wrong way all too much, I’m still a bit salty over them putting the tormented and zodiac weapon skins behind a pay/gambling wall, when you had to actually “earn them” in gw1.

However, with that being said…I’m buying HoT because I feel kind of forced to do so.

1.) The new living story will be in HoT, so if I wanted to wait to purchase HoT when it goes on a sale, I’d also have to throw some more money at the LS chapters (bi-weekly window to claim (unless I’m mistaken, and I could just log onto the base game in order to have those story chapters to play when I do buy HoT). If not, well then…looks like I have to buy HoT.

2.) My friends play gw2, and it’s hard to get them to play anything else. So if I want the game to be anything other than a glorified chatroom…then I have to buy HoT.

3.) If I wait to purchase the expac based on reviews after it comes out, then I lose the extra character slot deal…forced to pre-purchase if I want that (would be nice, but I already have an extra character slot).

+1 especially on the gold requirement. Problem with it, especially at its current cost is the gold will simply be deleted from the game. All those hard won drops and vendoring will go poof and not into the hands of another player on the TP where it can actually circulate.

It’s better in the long run for that gold to be removed.

I wouldn’t even agree with you even if we were earning gold in this event which we aren’t. Even with the terrible Pavilion 2.0 Event where we had to use currency+gold to get so called rewards from the vendor, at least that event gave you drops. If you find this rewarding in any way shape or form, enjoy it. This is a bad event for new players as they have a lack of gold and they are getting no karma, no drops, no gold, and no xp to boot and it’s bad for vets because many of us have some/most/all of the items from the reward vendor.

Please explain why you think a reward vendor for an event specifically aimed at new players needs a gold sink. (ArenaNet’s own recommended level is to be at least level 18). New players don’t have the gold to blow on this event. If I were new I’d rather go play where I was getting XP/Karma/Gold/Drops.

Agree completely. I don’t need the vendor rewards as I already have most of them. the only reason for me to do this event would be if loot drops..which it doesn’t. Even ‘normal’ loot would entice me to do this again!

Well…it’s been pretty clear for a while now that Anet doesn’t like giving loot to players. You either have to pay for your rewards or get none at all!!!

I honestly don’t remember an event that has come out recently where normal trash mobs would give loot; Scarlet invasions, maybe?….

And remember all of the complaints where people would farm mobs rather than complete the events?

Yes, I remember those complaints. But the problem isn’t with completing the events, the problem is where/what the player feels will give him the better reward. Event completion gained you less rewards over-all than just farming the mobs would. I mean, just look at how most of the dynamic events in the game are ignored. You get more for killing monsters than you do for completing the event.

But…that’s just my opinion so….there’s my 2 cents. Have an awesome rest of the day!

I don’t post on the forums very often…but I feel like I should throw my voice into the mix here.

You realize, all they did to fix this debacle, was to offer a temporary extra character slot? You get it if you pre-purchase the game, you don’t get it if you wait for the expansion to come out and then buy it. So…if I want to wait to see everything the game has to offer, judge it for myself and then buy it…I won’t get the extra character slot.

After the expansion releases…it’s the SAME EXACT THING…why are we giving praise to Anet again? Granted, they actually did communicate and address the community, but that…in itself…it not enough to garner the type of praise people are giving them. :/

I partially agree, especially with the Zodiac, Chaos and Tormented sets. Those should have been added with the implementation of an instanced hard party oriented content like it was in GW1: UW, FoW, DoA etc.

After years we veterans still ask for it and they still didn’t do anything.

And they most likely never will. I honestly still feel hurt about them throwing the Zodiac, Chaos, and Tormented sets behind RNG (BLTC) and money (TP).

They should’ve been something that you had to earn.

First off, that presentation was really cool…excited about pretty much everything. However, with that being said…what comes now? We only got the finale of Living Story season 2, so what’s next? What are they going to be adding to the game up until the launch of the expansion?

Arenanet took a break for the holidays, and gave us 1 Living Story episode (the finale), so far. Will we get a season 3 to tide us over till launch? Will the game remain stale up until the launch of HoT? I know they haven’t announced what their plans are, so it’s impossible to know…I’m just really curious.

Okay…so, I hardly post on the forums…I really just lurk around. However, I thought about bringing this up.

For some reason, it didn’t bug me until today…when I guess I really thought about it. You see, I really LOVE my GW1 monk…I love healing people, I love playing that “watch the red bar” game, and stuff like that. Now, today when I was in Silverwastes (for the umpteenth time), I realized…that the Modrem have monks!

So…I have one question..why do they get monks and we don’t?

Funny, I see you mentioned people stacking in a corner because AI is dumb. The thing is, when games first came out people didn’t know what to expect. But after time, games just become too easy, especially against AI.

Stacking in a corner is just common strategy in every game, have make sure all the attacks land, deal as much dps as possible, etc.

Think of games like a job, the more you do your job the better you are, the more you play games the better you are or the ‘play’ will be because of influence by those that have been doing it forever.

You got these people that played fps, to DoD, to starcraft, to diablo 2, to raiding in WoW, to GW, to LoL, to GW2. That’s a pretty good history of gaming, gaming shouldn’t be too challenging for you even what the developers consider or make it challenging because fact is you been doing this for a long time, nothing really impressive and you seen it all already.

I see what you are saying, and it is true. But you know this isn’t a case of people just getting so good they are able to fly through stuff. We’ve seen anet release some AWESOME boss battles, especially lately. This has me really excited at the prospect of future dungeon releases. It’s the original 12 or so dungeons the game launched with that are plain and simply broken.

What ever happened to the project that involved redesigning all the dungeons? Ascalon got an update, and we were told the rest would follow suit, and that never happened. All we got was a path in Twilight Arbor that nobody really runs anymore. Where are the results for all these changes they announced so long ago?

We aren’t getting new dungeons, or an overhaul of existing dungeons; Arenanet no longer has a dedicated dungeon team.

I feel you, I really do. I would LOVE an expansion, and I really would pay A LOT to see that happen. It’s almost as if Anet doesn’t see the good it would do for them if they were to release an expansion. I’m like you, I played GW1 a lot (6k+ hours), and I still play GW2 everyday….the main reason is because I have friends on the game who I otherwise would lose contact with if I were to quit playing.

The living story is a neat idea, and I give Anet props for trying something new…but idk if it’s just me or whatever, but the game could really thrive with something…BIGGER.

Heck, I would be perfectly happy if Utopia came out and gw1 kept getting updates, instead of the direction Anet went with (Gw2). Don’t get me wrong, I love this game…but like the OP said, I just want more.

Okay, first off…I need to point out your obvious mistake in paper money….do you know how easily it can be destroyed? Burned, soaked, it tears too easily, easily counterfeited…the list goes on. Secondly, why am not given the choice of Tyrian currency? I am from there, after all…what use do I have for your…american?… money? I’d like it all in gems!!!! Precious, precious gems!!!…Failing that…if I’m left with no other choice, and since paper money is incredibly foolish…I guess…all in 50 cent pieces?

I’ve been on the fence for a while now, and what pushed me over was the whole SAB issue, confirmation of no more dungeon development (aside from maybe the occasional fractal), and the lack of communication and what it took to finally get them to talk to us.

Couple that with the new information I’ve seen today….yeah, thank you Anet for solidifying my decision to quit the game when I did. I finally see where this game is going, and it’s not for me. I had so much love and respect for you guys….not any more.

I’m Syosha, a lot of people call me Syo. My in-game name is Drunken Stupor (I main a guardian).

I’ve been playing the game since the first beta weekend, and I’ve been guild hopping a lot…because just like my title says, I have yet to find a guild to really call “home”. I’m not a fan of big guilds, where nobody knows each other and it’s difficult to be social and make friends.

I’m an old GW1 vet, and I have plenty of great memories from that game. This game…constantly feels like a single player game to me…I log in, maybe pug a fractal, finish my daily, and log off.

I guess what I’m looking for…is a great group of people to enjoy pve (dungeons, fractals, bosses, or just map clearing), the occasional wvw run, a reason to log into the game, new friends/people, and not too big of a guild. I would love to get to know people through playing the game, than rather just be a number and a face that nobody will remember. By the way, I’m located in NA…keep forgetting to put that, lol.

If you noticed in the wardrobe article, there is a character dressed in the wintersday costume holding the legendary rifle ( I think ). This leads me to hope that maybe…JUST MAYBE…costumes will also be wearable in combat?

If this is so, it would be so awesome! I might finally have a reason to buy costumes now!

GW doesn’t do easter.

They do april fools instead.

Guild wars 1 did easter (chocolate bunnies drop, and so do golden eggs). It’s minor, but it’s there. They also do April Fools.

But…gw2 is a different game…so…obviously not? haha

While I enjoy GW2, I personally prefer GW1. In my opinion…I wish they would have just added Guild Wars Utopia; instead of scrapping it, turning it into EoTN, and then releasing GW2. :/

Ha, the only thing I have to say is….I better at least get 1 rare from a mission, if the STARTING requirement is art of war ‘level 5’. Work for the “chance” to do a mission, once again, rewards are sub par. (remains to be seen though).….Nevertheless, should be fun I guess. lol
