I think #3 happens to you because you have auto target selected under the combat and movement options. I played one game last night after turning the auto target option back on (after not using it for years) and ride the lightning sometimes would go off in a random direction because of an enemy (not even necessarily in view).

Hey, with the patch notes saying there have been improvements means improvements to the code and algorithms. X > Y if Z is met etc. You can read the code by searching GW2 wiki matchmaking algorithms.

I think the main problem for your stream of bad luck today is that there isn’t enough people actively playing PVP. Rather than never give you a match because there wasn’t 9 other people with similar match making ratings, it paired you with whoever was available.

I think a solution that would be great for everybody is encouraging more people to try out GW2 PvP, because it is great fun. I don’t know much about marketing games though.

I think these answers are very subjective because people just seem to be listing what they have trouble against in PVP on the characters they play in PVP.

I’ve seen necro as underpowered a lot on this thread, and d/d ele as overpowered. However I have played D/D ele for about 600 games over the last 12 months and the one class I am genuinely scared of fighting 1v1 and even on teams is necromancer.

The reason matching up against a necromancer even in a team fight is scary is because if they are smart, and wait until I just finish my water attunement then use the utility corrupt boon which transfers all my boons into conditions, I can basically be spiked down very quickly, certainly before water comes up again. It’s no secret that D/D ele requires high boon duration and having a tonne of boons always active, one well timed corrupt boon in a team fight or 1v1 and they are crippled from being able to defend themselves.

TLDR; Builds in GW2 are much like playing paper scissors rock, something can always hard or soft counter apparently ‘OP’ builds.

I know how to play, and I do use cantrips effectively. Cleansing fire clears 4/32 seconds, other cantrips are 1 cleanse each on a longer cooldown.

If I wanted to learn to play a class in PVP that I have never played before I would check the Metabattle build website for conquest, read and try to understand why they choose each trait, utility, weapon etc and then watch the reccomended ‘how to’ videos on youtube.

Then just jump into some hot joins to try and learn skill rotations that work and then trying some unranked matches if i’m still having fun with the class.

I think people want the win loose ratio to have more of an impact, if not the sole factor.

Then the people or teams who truly can win the most games will be higher ranked on the leaderboards.

Something like this happened to me as well. I qued for an unranked match (By myself I think my party was empty), and then something suddenly came up, so I left the que, but the game still popped.

It’s kind of really random, I think it’s only happened to me once or twice Justin, so i’m not sure how much help we can be if we don’t know how to reproduce the bug.

Only Deathmatch?

Conquest is a great game mode for 5 vs 5 pvp. It requires strategies, plans, rotation, communication and practice.

It gives great team fights, duels.

It’s like a king of the hill with 3 hills.

As for your question, the ‘deathmatch’ game mode where you just hack and slash everybody to death with less strategie and longer gameplay is at WvW.

I agree with this a lot. There’s no point to having an ‘unblockable skill’, if you need to get a hit off, on a skill that can be blocked. When somebody is blocking, we basically don’t have access to our unblockable attack.

What a joke, I hope this is addressed.

It’s so bad. Sometimes the game is nearly unplayable. I just cross my fingers that it doesn’t happen during a TPVP match.

Although for me it seems to lag and DC more often in PVP maps unfortunately.

I have the same problem. I never used to have the problem, but it seems like since the DDOS attacks it started and hasn’t gone away.

Sometimes certain maps like Lions arch and heart of the mists are fine, and then as soon as I get into a pvp game about 20% of the time, it DCs me. I think the PVP maps might be hosted on a different server, or the routing to those pvp servers is different than to normal GW2 maps.

Hello,

I live in Australia and recently moved out of town temporarily for the period of approximately 12 months. Hard wired internet can’t be supplied and so my spouse and I are using cellular data to play using our mobile phones as wireless hotspots.

We’re limited to 8GB/month each and if you go over the limit the price dramatically goes up to a point beyond highway robbery, $50/GB.

I would simply like the ability to know how much data the new patches are, either on the launcher where it states files remaining, but not their size (for some unknown reason). Or alternatively on the GW2 website. So I can make the decision on whether I will download the patch at home (< ~100MBs) or go to a public place like a library or Mcdonalds cafe (> ~100MBs).

I would prefer more armor skins for light, medium and heavy for the races we have rather than adding more races. We have amazing customization with dyes, but the number of skins could always use some love.

Australian Player: NA or EU server best?

I’d really like to see an Australian server made. Even if it’s in the same category of servers as EU. Just so the people around the GMT+8-12 hours can actually have people online during their prime times.

If you play from 4-8 or 9pm in the GMT +10 hours timezone (Australian east coast) there’s not really very many people on, people start coming on at 8 or 9 (For European servers anyway)

I love your ideas! I hope ArenaNet considers them. More armour and weapon skins is always good and the way you elaborate how to give people an incentive to do dynamic events and just play in the open world is fantastic.

Another thing I would add is that each dynamic event you complete you gain 1 achievement point, or maybe 1 achievement point every 5 or 10 events you complete. That would increase the incentive to complete events in the open world. In a way of horizontal progression because Achievement Points don’t actually increase your ability in combat, they’re just a way of showing people your dedication to Tyria!

Hey Robert, I’m glad you do want to improve, because I want to improve also.

Currently i’m using dagger/pistol with a switch to pistol/pistol for distance AOE with the ricochet trait. It works pretty well, it gives the good combos and single target in and out of stealth of the dagger pistol with the AOE team support of dual pistols ricochet.

A lot of people are suggesting and talking about guild and player housing (Including Chris!)

To add to this discussion, I think it would be great if you could own land, buy and sell, trade it with players and stuff, and earn it through competitive play in some manner.

Whether that be which guild could hold points in a pvp setting for a week long event periodically (seasonally, every 3 months) or something else entirely.

I think this would provide an incentive for people to earn the land so they could build on it, or provide a price that the ‘land miners’ couldn’t refuse.

Yeah it’s viable, it does take practice to master though.

In PVP i’m running 10 in deadly arts for mug (So steal does damage and heals me), 30 in critical strikes for Executioner (for +20% damage on targets with less than half health) and 30 in shadow arts so I can gain health while in stealth, stay in stealth and try to get backstabs off to get the target to half health then heartseeker with big damage bonuses.

I think something similar works really well in WvW too. You could use it in PvE but I think there’s better options for PvE, but if you like daggers there’s no reason you couldn’t make it viable with practice.

On the contrary, I have difficulty sticking with just two weapon sets we have so much verity.

Sword/pistol is nice for melee distance AOE, pistol/pistol with ricochet is good for ranged AOE and single target burst, shortbow is good for utility and ranged AOE, dagger/dagger is nice for cloak and dagger, backstab and heartseeker and the mobility of on demand evades.

If you want verity removed, try play a necromancer. For a hybrid burst/condition build which is essentially the only viable PvE build, you’re stuck with scepter/dagger and axe/focus.

Just another quick one,

I’d like some weapons that look like real, historical weapons. Most of the greatswords in the game for example don’t actually look anything like greatswords from any period of history.

One of the only decent looking realistic sword I could find for my thief was Bonetti’s Rapier.

I guess in relation to this thread perhaps we could get more skins all around and add some kind of way to earn then, as horizontal progression. (armours as well as weapon skins).

I don’t want to add too many ideas at once and I’ve seen plenty of great stuff on this thread already. But something I would like to see is a way for competitive players to be competitive without needing to go to a vertical gear grind.

For example, seasonal highscores based on who earned the most achievement points this month or this 3 month period etc. Who gained the most experience? (Or leveled up the most number of times after level 80). I’m sure the Arenanet development team could come up with great ideas like that for a seasonal highscore so people can be competitive without being rewarded with better stats than somebody who doesn’t care to be competitive.

I’ve seen people suggest Guild vs Guild and I think that’s a good idea as well, people would fight to get to the top of the guild rankings in each server, it would be fantastic competition.

Hey Mishel, I run a similar build on my thief with Sword/Pistol – Pistol/Pistol.

The same traits as your except I have 10 less in Deadly Arts and have that 10 in Shadow Arts for 20% reduced recharge on deception skills. As I use blinding powder, smoke screen and shadow refuge and the reduced cooldown is nice. Lol.

And if you run Superior rune of the traveler instead of Superior rune of divinity you basically trade 6% critical damage and +30 to all stats for +15% boon duration, +10% condition duration and +25% movement speed, which would enable you to run blinding powder instead of the movement speed signet. Which has basically the same cooldown with the trait that reduces cooldown on deception skills and it grants you stealth so you can get off a stealth 1 hit with your pistol while you regain some initiative for Pistol/pistol 3.

EDIT: And yeah, Ricochet is amazing. :P

The necromancer supports the party with crowd control. This would be much better on bosses if difiance was removed.

My build (Which is Similar to Nemesis’ hybrid damage build) also stacks vulnerability with axe and focus 4 skill, which also heals allies if it bounces off them by a small amount.

Because the hybrid damage build uses condition damage of a scepter, and the bursting damage of an axe, it’s actually beneficial to invest in celestial gear (Ascended trinkets that add an equal amount to all stats, including healing power).

This really shines when you invest in a level 10 trait in the blood trait line, which allows you to heal up to 5 allies at once every time you life transfer (every 40 seconds) and still damage up to 5 mobs. This essentially heals everyone in your party within range about 5,000 hp.

EDIT: So in conclusion, from experience, this is why I don’t think it’s fair to say the Necromancer can’t help support in a party. I think it functions very well, as well as putting out it’s own pressure and damage. I think the true problem if difiance, not letting us cripple, chill bosses and etc.

Shortbow seems like the AOE ranged option for dagger dagger or sword dagger/pistol etc.

I’d like to investigate the potential for using it as the AOE weapon switch to pistol pistol.

The only problem with some of the thief weapon skills is that they inflict bleeding or poison (dagger 1, 3, shortbow 2, 4 etc) So fully bursting builds don’t make full use of this.

I don’t really have too many ideas to share.

But i’m super glad that the developers are asking the community and that they are focused on progression (Vertical and horizontal) because I love the game, the combat, the art style, the mechanics, the friends but some times there just isn’t much to do.

I’m a little worried about gear progression mainly because I don’t want all the time I’ve spent gathering Ascended gear and trinkets to go to waste. It would be good if the developers could spend the money and use the time to talk to the community and come up with really great progression ideas and put some into the game.

EDIT: I’ve just had a thought, some kind of horizontal progression could be competition between guilds on the same server (Rather than WvW, which is server vs server). Because of the tight communities on each server, people could get really competitive and try to earn their guild the way to the top. Whether through influence points or a guild vs guild tournament (Not the PvP tournaments with 5vs5, the whole guild vs the whole guild).

It could be possible to arrange challenges at mutually benefital times for both of the guilds then battle it out whether to capture points or kill the most of the other guild.

I do agree with the original post about using sword skill 2 as an escape mechanism from stuns and just in general.

I don’t main a thief, but I have a thief alt toon and while the skill still works, it’s not as good as it should be.

I think this is especially a problem for WvW and PvP sword wielding thieves.

I love my condition/bursting hybrid necromancer because it uses all stats so celestial gear (Gear with a bonus to all stats) efficiently. I can stack bleeds, vulnerability, I apply weakness on critical hit every 20 seconds for 5.5 seconds so overall it does help the party a lot and also does decent burst damage and control with axe/focus weapon combination.

To stack the conditions I use scepter dagger for AOE bleeds, cripple and etc. As utilities I use blood is power to get 10 stacks of might, and bleed the target for a long time. (It also self bleeds so if you use blood is power then epidemic, you can spread all the conditions then you’ll have self vulnerability and bleeding, which you can then heal even more damage with consume conditions, or just add them to the target as well with dagger number 4).

I can even heal my team with life transfer (Death shroud 4) and a specific trait from the blood line, which I have 10 points invested. Which actually targets up to 5 allies, and 5 enemies at the same time, healing your allies with a high HP pool about 25% and dealing the classic great AOE damage that death shroud 4 provides. (With the healing power from celestial trinkets of course)

I hope I’ve made an okay case for the necromancer, but I hope you really enjoy whichever class you choose to play as your main.

Anybody that thinks Necromancers can’t bring anything unique and helpful to a party haven’t done a fractal with me.

Some necromancers just aren’t aware of how to use an effective build. But that can apply to any class. I’m sure there are rubbish warrior builds too.

As a condition/bursting hybrid Necromancer I can keep over 20 stacks of vulnerability active on one target, have over 20 stacks of bleeds on that target ticking for 2000 bleed damage per tick, chill and cripple the boss if I need to slow it down and burst over 15,000 damage in a matter of seconds, excluding the condition damage with axe 2 and stay alive with death shroud using AOE life transfer, healing my allies and damaging 5 mobs and then putting torment on 5 mobs.

Also I think that hybrid necromancers are one of the only class builds that can fully benefit from full celestial gear. Using condition damage, power, precision, critical damage, toughness, vitality and even healing power to strengthen life transfer to heal more for your team.

I personally don’t main a thief, I play my necromancer 99% of the time. And I agree with what you have said and you illustrate a very good case.

It’s kind of unfair that thieves are getting nerfed just because people have trouble dealing with stealth which is one of the thiefs only saving graces.

On a small tangent: Don’t you dare nerf my Death Shroud (Only being able to activate with less than 25% health). xD

I agree with most of the original post.

I love the mechanics of GW2 and enjoy the combat and artwork greatly but I just feel like there isn’t much to do.

You could do a daily fractal, and then spend 10 minutes finishing up your daily achievements but that’s essentially all the end game content feels like at the moment. Unless you go to WvW or PvP and not everybody likes having to run around a WvW map setting up siege to capture buildings.

Dungeons and fractals are pretty much the only end game PvE content and they don’t have a feeling of longevity.

Perhaps I’m being overly critical because GW2 is a great game, I just feel like there’s not much to do once you get map completion and ascended gear etc.

Something more dark, and wand like. Lol. There’s plenty of cool wand designs in the harry potter movie franchise. I’m sure they aren’t all copyright as intellectual property. I really like the Dhummfire trait. It’s a very nice addition to many Necromancer builds.

However, I think the idea of replacing burn with torment is good because often champions have a burn already inflicted by many other classes. Torment is more unique, and more in line with the Necromancer ‘vibe’.

I’d want the Torment to be 4 seconds every 10 seconds though, just like how Dhuumfire works now.

I really like this idea. I run a hybrid build, so my bleeds only hit around 100 per tick. But that would still be 5 health/second/bleed stack. Which would be nice, but not too overpowered.

It could help Necromancers become on par with other preferred classes.

1. Increased axe weapon skill range from 600 to 900 to match scepter’s range.
2. Perhaps increase axe auto attack’s damage by a little bit, not extremely high like the daggers, because they are only melee range and should be stronger, but enough to make it worthwhile.

I play a damage hybrid build (condition and burst damage) and while the scepter/dagger are fine, the axe/focus attacks are just lacking very minor. Overall I think they work and it’s valuable to use them, and that’s why I do.

But 900 range for all 3 of the axe’s attacks would be very nice because I think the necromancer using the axe and scepter is more like a wand, to cast magic, rather than slash up close and personally. So an increase of 300 range from 600 to 900 (matching the focus, offhand dagger and scepters range).

And also, rending claws (axe 1 ability) is just lacking in power. 9 second vulnerability is good but even if the power of the attack were increased by 5-15% I think that would be sufficient. The dagger is a lot more powerful, and it needs to stay that way because of the daggers lack of range. But it’s almost not even viable to auto attack with the axe, just from a tiny lack of damage.

1. I like being part of a more unique class (rare), not often chosen by people as their main character. Most of the time I’m the only necromancer in the dungeon party, fractal party etc.

2. I like being underestimated. Many people think Necromancers aren’t very powerful or helpful to a party. I love proving them wrong and putting out more than my fair share in damage and crowd control.

3. I do like a lot of the weapon skills and utility skills like epidemic, ghastly claws and the condition applying scepter/dagger skills.

4. I like being able to stack 25 bleeds and then switch to burst damage with the damage hybrid build. (And apply stacks of vulnerability with the axe while bursting).

5. I like that we’re dark and cosmetically I’m very happy with my characters look. I also like the Reaver of the Mists axe and the Abyssal Scepter because they’re purple and glowy. It adds a nice final touch.

How do you want to earn Achievement Points?

At current, achievement points are displayed on the party interface when you’re in a party or just in your guild window. They are a great indicator of which players are more experienced than others and if any people are fairly new to the game and may need more of a helping hand.

This is helpful in not only leading successful groups and guilds, but also being a helpful team member of a group or guild.
