For the first time in an MMO, I have the very best gear available. I was lead to believe that I would never have to upgrade in order to keep up with that.
I was NOT one of the people complaining they had nothing to do. I had PLENTY of things to do each time I logged in, and still more stuff on my to do list. I didn’t ask for more to keep me busy, and now I feel like I’m going to be forced to do things I didn’t really want to, taking my time away from things I really did.
I get that there’s only a couple of pieces of new gear, which will grow to more over time. So what happens when all of the ascended gear has been released, and I’ve spent all that time getting it? Will they release yet another tier then?
I truly thought this game was different- a game that wouldn’t cave to the masses that can’t handle life outside the Skinner box. I guess I was wrong.
With that logic, and you having so much to do then why do you even care what gear you have and that it might not be “the best”. The way you play, you dont need the best if you’re satisfied with running around the world discovering things, doing DEs OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER in orr to the point your eyes bleed, and crafting which can be done with any gear.
What I’m trying to say is why do you care if more gear comes out if you don’t really care about your gear….
heard that argument in countless other gear treadmill games. it didn’t hold any water there, either.
btw Anet, you can merge threads all you like, but this issue is already far beyond your ability to contain. people feel they have been lied to, and hoping the anger will just die down is a foolish mistake that will cost more than you can afford.
boycotts don’t work. quitting doesn’t work. whining and pitching a fit on public forums does work. this has been documented. it’s not pretty or mature but you have to go with what’s proven to work.

I agree that it can be done with perserverance without transferring, but I also agree that it shouldn’t need to be.
I just finished the achievement this weekend as well, by going on WvW and getting the points when I could, over the course of a month. Eventually, I was down to a single POI and vista in a single keep that we just hadn’t held any of the times I was on (or held when I got in, then lost before I could get there- that happened twice). After another week of checking back every couple of hours, I was finally able to get it.
Despite the great feeling of accomplishment in finally achieving Been There, Done That, I disagree with the achievement needing the WvW maps. I think they should be separated out.
I’m certainly not going to announce I’m quitting based on a preview article, but I will say this:
If A Net really is introducing an end game gear grind, it is a 100% deal-breaker for me, and I suspect a lot of other people. If that’s what I wanted, I’d go back to WoW.
I hope you’re reading and soaking in this feedback, A Net. This is not something that people will just “get over”.
…
The original post also stated that I am looking to hear from people who like the system as well as hate it, but please keep the discussions civil. You know my stance on it – I hate it. But I’d love to see why there are those who enjoy it aside from the typical guild hopper type and aside from the obvious benefit of being in 3 separate guilds for friends, pvp, and pve.
Thank you.
Why exactly is that reason dismissed out of hand here? To me, that is exactly what the multi-guild system is designed to allow for. To put it another way, no other reason is needed.
For those guild leaders that wish for the multi-guild system to be removed please explain why having an “always represent” rule and enforcing it does not give you exactly the same result.
If you don’t want your guild to participate in the multi-guild system, that’s all you need to do: have a rule that members must represent 100% of the time, make sure they understand and agree to it when they join the guild, and have the fortitude to enforce it. You don’t need to have the feature removed for everyone.
To answer the question. That’s exactly why I like the multi-guild system. I am in a small, very fun, very sociable guild. We talk in Vent, joke, and have a lot of fun. I don’t want to leave that guild. The problem is when I play in WvW, I’d like to be a part of a structured force, rather than just tagging along with the zerg. My guild just doesn’t have that many people that WvW much, and even if everyone did, it would still be too small to have a force that could make a difference. So, I’m also looking for a guild just for the purpose of doing WvW with.
The same goes for dungeons. I’ve completed exactly ONE dungeon since the game started. I’d really like to do them all (all paths) at least once, and some a few times for some skins I’d like to get. My small guild just doesn’t seem to do dungeons very often though. Besides the one I was on, I doubt there have been more than 5 runs total amongst all of us, over the entire life of the game. Possible solution: there are guilds designed specifically for finding groups to do dungeons. Much better than PUGs, because useless people don’t get to stay in the guild, so you can be reasonably sure you’ll get decent group members.
Without the multi-guild system, my only choice is to leave my small, fun guild, and try to find a bigger, much less personal guild to do WvW and dungeons with. I don’t want to leave my small guild. I like the people in it. I just want to be able to join in with a big, organized group when I’m WvWing, and to be able to get a group without playing the roulette wheel when I feel like running dungeons, and for all the rest of my time in the game, to hang out with my small, tight-knit group of friends, who, while they can’t meet my needs for WvW and dungeons, are people that I really like and want to spend time with. Removing the multi-guild system would FORCE me to leave them, or not be able to do everything I want to in the game.
There’s a big shift in difficulty when going into the 60+ zones at par level (at least there was for me in Fireheart Rise). They seem to be not just a little tougher than the 50-60 zones, but a lot tougher.
That might be a part of what you’re experiencing.
Hay Arena Net, don’t you think it’s about time you cleared out all those old buy orders that can’t be filled?
Just do a mass cancel and refund the money. The players obviously aren’t going to do it. I bet a bunch of them forgot they had those orders, and a bunch more don’t even play the game anymore. If you don’t clear them out, some of them will stay there forever.
I think it’s MOSTLY based on supply and demand, but there’s absolutely no reason for them to black-box it except to have the ability make “adjustments” to it when they deem necessary.
Obviously, the gold cost to buy gems is going to go up. There are two separate systems: gold and real money. In both systems, there is inflation. However, gold inflates far more quickly than real money.
There are gold sinks, but overall, more gold is coming into the world than is leaving. This is necessary- otherwise people would never be able to accumulate more gold as time goes by. What little gold there was in the game would gravitate towards those who are best at making it, leaving everyone else with almost nothing, and eventually, quitting the game.
GW2 seems to have more effective gold sinks than most other games, but it still has inflation, and compared to the real world, the inflation is much higher. People in the game expect to have more gold than the day before pretty much every day, and most do. In the real world, do you have more money every day than you did before, or do you spend most of your paycheck, only saving a little of it? Most people have very little savings in the real world, and their overall net worth either stays much the same from day to day or grows VERY slowly. For most people, the same thing in the game would be unacceptable. They want to see an overall increase in the total amount of money they have on a daily basis, and generally, they do.
I’m sure if they really put their minds to it, they could come up with another solution to prevent the TP from being used as temp storage.
Wow, you guys are awesome! I’ll look for your posts in the next few days.
I’m 80 with full exotics, and actually love dungeons, but since my guild is very small, and just doesn’t seem to do many, and since I loathe pick up groups (sometimes you get lucky, but not often enough to be worth it), I’ve actually only completed one- AC story. Maybe once I’ve run all the exp paths, I’ll feel better about doing some PUGs.
I’ve been thinking of buying a few of these just for the fun of it, but I wanted to know first exactly how it works.
I assume it’s a consumable. It wouldn’t make sense for them to sell it if you never had to buy more than one of them.
Does it give a buff so that the next time you do a finishing move it procs? Or is it maybe timed, so that each finisher you do while you have the buff is a cow? Or, is it something you have to activate in order to do a finisher? Or something else?
no gear progression!!!
There are plenty of games that have it, if that is what you crave. It has no place in Guild Wars 2.
I don’t remember there every being a first person camera, but I agree, I’d love to see it in the game.
I know they don’t want people playing in first person for some reason or other, but I seriously doubt most people would use it all that often. I know I wouldn’t.
I’d only use it for screenshots, and for those times where the area is so closed that camera is forced up against my character’s back, and I can’t see anything. The vast majority of the time, I much prefer to have the camera back as far as it goes.
To be frank, I’ve never been too keen on real world Holiday events in MMOs at all. Regardless how they do it, it still feels like the real world holiday, which is really immersion-breaking. Plus, they are mostly just really cheesy and boring.
I know I’m in the minority, and there’s no way these things are going anywhere, but I just felt like venting a little. Carry on.
I refuse to buy keys too, but not for the same reasons. I refuse to buy them because on principle, I will not buy anything for which I do not receive value. Since there is no way to know what I will get by buying a BL key, there is no way to know if it will be worth buying.
I will spend my hard earned money on thing that I feel are worth it. I will buy skins that I like, but I won’t spend one red cent on a “chance” to get a skin. I will buy a dye that I like, but I won’t drop a penny on a grab bag of dyes.
I encourage everyone else to respect their money the same way. Don’t ever let go of your money unless you know exactly what it is you are getting for it in return.
You EARNED that money. Make NCSoft do the same.
But if you investigate, and determine that it was indeed a scam, will you return the gold or item(s) to the injured party?
I’d rather they just make waypoints reasonably priced. You know, like they are when you’re low level.
They could easily keep the 30% and still have it completely market based. As in- having buy and sell orders just like everything else. Simply up the transaction fee to 30% (no need for a listing fee, gems don’t take bag space, so you couldn’t abuse the TP for free bag space).
The ONLY reason for keeping the details hidden is to allow them to “fiddle” with the exchange rate.
Best bet for gear while leveling is greens from heart vendors in level appropriate zones. If you’ve done all the hearts in Fireheart Rise, for example, you should be able to find a decent set of gear for around 1k karma each (maybe less, I haven’t been there in a while).
Ah, but they CAN make a profit charging a measly 1/6 of ANet’s prices (actually closer to 1/4 now, due to the recent spike in gem prices over the holiday- IF that holds, it’s a step in the right direction, but not sure it will).
If they couldn’t make a profit on that, they’d charge more.
Also, I’m not recommending A Net just create more gold to sell to users in order to increase the gem price. All I’m saying is that the hyper-inflation theory doesn’t hold water, because it doesn’t matter where the gold comes from if it causes hyper-inflation (tip: ALL gold is created from thin air, just like fiat currencies in the real world- the difference is instead of only commercial banks being able to create money, in GW2, anyone that kills a mob, participates in an event, or completes a part of their personal story creates gold.)
Besides, I’ll never be convinced that the gem exchange is absolutely, 100% driven by supply and demand until they put the process out into the open, so we can see the exact exchanges that are being made (i.e. the ability to put in buy and sell orders, just like the TP). Really, there’s no other reason to keep it hidden than to “play around” with it.
I don’t think more titles dilutes them at all. Everyone knows that an easy to get title is not an accomplishment, so no one is going to be in awe over someone that “didn’t deserve it” (e.g. the “of Sanctum” and “of Meridian” titles in Rift- most people didn’t bother to wear them, because everyone knew it wasn’t much of an accomplishment, and nobody mistook it for a title that took something to get).
Really, having a “hard to get” title just says that you either enjoy grinding, or you’ve simply played the game a LOT. Note: I have the combat healer title, and fall into the category of “played a LOT”. A title like that is just a matter of time.
I’ll also stick my vote in on how lame it was for the Orrian King to tell me I’ll carry the title “Champion of Orr”, and then A Net not make good on that promise. Maybe it’s something that got missed, but more likely, it’s just poor writing. If an important NPC tells you you’re getting a title, it’s kind of expected that you actually get one.
Finally, titles are really ALL pretty pointless until I’m able to see my own name.
You can’t just name a few things to flip, and expect everyone will be able to make money on them. The very act of telling more people about an opportunity makes the opportunity disappear.
The only reliable way to find out what things to flip is to do the research yourself.
I don’t have a problem with the bank slots. That’s one of the few things in the gem store that I view as worth spending money on (and I have). Sure, I’d love to see them cost less, but it has enough value at it’s current price for me to buy it. The bag slots are another issue, simply because they are character-based, rather than account-based. Because of that, they don’t have enough value for me to spend my money on them.
My problem with their model is their insistence on using gambling systems, which are really nothing more than an attempt to get people to spend more money than they intended without realizing it. It’s sleazy, it’s cheap, and it’s under-handed.
Of course, the arguments will be, “then don’t buy those things”. Well, I don’t. But the mere fact of them being used lowers my opinion of NCSoft, and yes, Arena Net too.
To the company(ies): If you want MY money, offer value. I make very good money, and am happy to spend it on entertainment, as long as I feel like I’m getting good value for it. I’d buy specific dyes, but I won’t spend a single penny for a grab-bag of unknown dyes. I’d buy skins, but I won’t spend a single penny for a chance at them.
Yes, I know there are plenty of suckers out there who will fall for your disgusting gambling-based business practices, but if you want MY money, you’re going to have to give me VALUE for it.
The real issue is that gold sellers prices being 6 TIMES better than legit prices means the gold sellers are WINNING.
They are able to run their businesses essentially unharrased by A Net. If you guys were doing a better job at stopping all of the botting, gold selling spam, and account hacking, then their costs would be higher, which would drive their prices higher. This in turn would eat into their market share, as fewer would take the risk.
It’s all about numbers, and the numbers say you’re losing, Arena Net. Six TIMES the price is a darn big incentive to take that risk.
And I don’t buy the line about hyper-inflation. The risk of hyper-inflation is the same whether the gold comes from Arena Net, or from botting and gold selling. The origin of extra gold has no bearing on it’s effect on the economy.
I don’t profess to have the answer, but the numbers tell me that whatever you’re doing now isn’t it.
I would buy a couple.
I would not, and never will spend money on a “chance” at anything.
To everyone who is upset or disillusioned after wasting lots of money on keys and getting nothing for it:
Let the company know how you feel by not opening your wallet the next time. Stop buying anything that requires you to gamble. Encourage others to do the same. Don’t buy black lion keys. Don’t buy mini-pets packs. Don’t buy dye packs. Don’t buy boxes of fun. Don’t buy ANYTHING that doesn’t provide you with a specific item that you know up front exactly what it is.
Tell your horror story to anyone who will listen. Let people know how gambling in the gem store cost you, and how much it cost you. Tell them you are telling your story in order to save them from the same scam.
DO buy things that you feel give you value. Buy bank expansions and character slots, and if you like them, costume items. If you think they are worth it, buy boosters, but ONLY if you know exactly what boosters you will be getting.
Let Arena Net know what you like in the gem store and what you don’t like in the gem store by buying the things you like and not buying the things that are a rip off. Let them know by using your wallet that you WILL spend money, but ONLY if you can get value for it.
That is what I am doing, and I am writing this to encourage anyone who will listen to do the same.
To Arena Net: I am happy to spend real money to support you, IF I can get value for my money. I have a good job, and make good money, and have already spent money on gems, and will probably continue to do so. If you were to offer those skins directly for gems, at a price of say, about the same as a full costume, I’d buy one or two of them. They could even be account bound, leaving the ones gotten by gambling as tradeable, so those that want to gamble still have a reason to do so. I bet you’d sell a lot of them. In fact, I bet you’d make more money than you have selling black lion keys. How many of those people that spent tons of money on keys and got nothing do you think will keep doing that in the future? How much of a long term business strategy do you think that is? Maybe I’m wrong, and there is much more money to be made by pretending to be a casino than there is by offering value, but you’ll never get MY money that way. Sure, I’ve spent money, and I’ll probably spend more, but rest assured, I’ll never spend it on what is essentially gambling, especially when I don’t know the odds.
Would be a nice UI improvement. Obviously should be done on the other side, as well.
Good luck getting it. I went back and forth with them on this issue for several days before I finally just gave up. Perhaps that was the tactic all along.
Tip: If you get an error trying to buy something (or sell something that you care about losing and not getting paid for), DON’T keep trying it. Just because your money still shows on your character right after the error doesn’t mean it will still be there tomorrow- without the item you were trying to buy.
Mira that math is off. I’ll make this simple so everyone can understand.
5 × 1.15 = 5.75 (Your projected “break even” point) Okay, lets test this “break even” point.
So if you resell at 5.75, you should break even, right? Wrong.
5.75 × 0.85 = 4.88.
You didn’t break even, you lost 0.12. If we were speaking in terms of gold and silver, you would have lost 12 silver.
As you can see using the “1.15” method on your buy price will end up losing you money unless your margin is high enough that the incorrect math doesn’t matter.
The best way to find your profit is to look at the current sell price. Let’s use 5g for a current sale price and 4g 20s for a current buy order price. This is pretty realistic with a lot of the items I come across.
5g x 0.85 = 4g 25s — This is what you get after fee’s if you resell the item at the current market value.
4g 25s – 4g 20s = 5s profit.
The moral of this lesson is that going from 1.15 and 0.85 aren’t the same thing. Percentages are just that, percentages, not fixed amounts. 15% of a higher number will be more than 15% of a lower number.
Indeed. However, there is an easier way than the trial and error method mentioned above.
Instead of multiplying your cost by 1.15, DIVIDE your cost by .85.
In the example above, 5 / .85 = approx 5.88. 5.88-15% ( aka 5.88 * .85) = approx 5. There may be differences of 1 or 2 cp on the total due to rounding, but this method is completely accurate otherwise.
Have you tried WvW? It’s actually extremely fun, and I am about as carebear as you can get. I HATE to PvP in most games. I didn’t think I’d really like WvW much either, but darned if it ain’t all that.
I honestly still don’t do it all that much (mainly because I just have so much other stuff I want to do, and not enough hours to do them all), but I don’t have any problem going into it for monthly achievement and map completion.
I actually got more loot last night than I had been getting previously.
RNG is random.
I will not likely ever go for one myself, but I think that’s the point. They will probably always be somewhat rare, and I think that’s a good thing.
On the other hand, other than a couple of them (maybe only one, to be honest), I’m not really impressed with the graphics. Twilight looks freaking AWESOME, and actually makes me think that one day… maybe… but I’m honestly not tempted AT ALL to go for any of the others. They just aren’t that special.
How would I figure out what custom resolution would give me close to a 90ยบ FoV? My monitor has a native resolution of 1600×900. I don’t suffer from nausea or headaches, but it does bother me. It’s annoying to go from playing a game on my PS3 to playing GW2 on my PC. The difference is noticeable.
According to Jon Peters, the FOV in GW2 for a 16:9 widescreen is 75.
Using that, and this calculator: http://www.emsai.net/projects/widescreen/fovcalc/
An aspect ratio of 21:9 will get you to about 91 degree FOV.
I personally use a custom resolution of 1920×810, which is ~ a 21:9 ratio. Also, several companies are about to release new ultra-wide monitors with the same aspect ratio (I’ve mentioned this previously). Their resolutions should be 2560×1080. If you wanted to keep your same width (for example, if your video card would have trouble increasing it to 2100×900), I think you’d want to be somewhere around 1600×680. You might need to play around with the height a bit to get it just right.
I kind of feel the same way. I spent hours yesterday leveling one of my alts to 400 cooking, and now I think I wasted my time and resources. Live and learn, I guess.
Actually, I think the biggest impact gold sellers and botters are having on the game is through the reactions of Arena Net developers to their actions. After all, it’s a no brainer that anything a developer does has a far bigger impact on the game than anything a person or even a large group of people can have. For example, the DR code that was implemented is having a HUGE impact on the game. It’s in like the top 3 subjects being discussed, maybe even the very top one!
To the OP’s comments, I do agree that the dollar cost of most, if not all of the items in the cash shop is over-priced. By that, I mean that not only would it be a better deal for us as consumers if they were to lower the prices some, but I think it would cause Arena Net and NCSoft to make more money from it.
After all, those items have an extremely small cost to produce, as they are mostly completely virtual items that can be copied and destroyed at will. I.e., supply is essentially whatever it needs to be to meet demand. Obviously, there is a floor to how much they could charge and it be more profitable, but I don’t think they are anywhere near it.
There’s a “sweet spot” of cost at which they would have enticed almost everyone who is interested to buy those things. Lower than that spot would not net them any more sales (or not more than a miniscule amount), while higher than that spot is more than many (perhaps even most) are willing to pay. Somewhat higher is where I believe they currently are.
50 dollars will buy me 4000 gems from ANet or about 12.5 gold.
50 dollars will buy me about 11,600 gems from gold sellers or 50 gold.
Do I advocate using gold sellers? No, because you can not trust them with your credit cards and you may lose your account.
However, if you are caught and banned, you will lose both that $50 worth of gold, and the $60 you spent on the game. The seller will lose almost nothing- they were using a hacked account, anyway.
You can’t stop the sellers by banning their hacked accounts. You can however stop them by taking away their market- i.e. banning their clients.
Guys, buying gold is against the User Agreement and the Rules of Conduct. It’s also harmful to the game as a whole. I mean, do you really want to encourage gold advertisers in the game? Would you want to give a boost to account thieves? (And trust me, most RMT accounts are stolen)
Gold buying from third parties: Don’t do it. Please.
The question I believe was: what is Arena Net doing about/to buyers? Are you taking just as hard-line a stance with them as you are the sellers?
I think that’s what the vast majority of us wants to see. I’ll even go so far as to say it should be an even harder stance.
1. There is no reason to have sympathy for illegal gold buyers getting banned. They have a perfectly legal, easy to use method of buying gold for real money. There is no excuse whatsoever for doing it illegally.
2. Banning the sellers does next to NOTHING to stop the problem. They are using hacked accounts, and are barely affected when one of their stolen accounts is discovered and banned. Banning the BUYERS on the other hand will have a tremendous effect. They typically have their own account that they paid their own money for. Banning someone who saved say $30 by buying illegally (that’s a LOT of illegal gold) means that they have actually lost money, because (if they want to keep playing), they now have to spend another $60 to get back in, as well as lost all of the gold they just illegally acquired, not to mention they’ve lost all of their progression across all of their characters.
While it’s true that most of them will probably choose not to play at all (good riddance, I say), those that do will be extremely unlikely to buy gold illegally again. (hopefully) They’ll see that instead of it saving them money, it actually ended costing them money- a LOT of money.
I say NO MERCY. Take it to them HARD. There is no excuse for buying illegal gold in this game when you have the legal method freely available.
Getting this too. An answer would be appreciated.
I am poor student don’t exptect that I will spend 1000$ for gems! But…it’s the only way to be rich…
My tips to be rich:
-be rich in real life, earn 2k$ per month.
-be lucky.
2k per month is rich?
That’s odd.. when I did the custom resolution on my setup, the system simply elongated the pixels, so that the 800 pixels filled the space where 1080 pixels would typically go. Its still 1920×800, but uses the whole screen, so everything looks taller and thinner, with no black bars.
I wonder if it’s some setting I have differently, and if it’s in my nvidia control panel, or the game, or just some quirkiness of my monitor or video card (560 Ti GTX).
So, ignoring A Net’s callous “no”…
I’ve heard there are ways to improve this besides spending $1000 (or more) on a 3 monitor setup or using a very unauthorized hack. Granted, they cause empty space above and below your game window, but if that’s the only way then you gotta do what you gotta do.
Such as….
The easiest I guess would be to just play windowed, and drag the window borders so that it has a more comfortable view for you.
I’ve also heard there’s a way to do it by changing your screen’s resolution to a wider ratio, and playing in full screen windowed? How does that work, exactly?
Also, I’ve been doing research, and it looks like several companies are on the verge (none out yet that I can see, and no mention of price yet) of introducing ultra wide screen monitors with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The resolution would be 2560×1080. This will probably not give a full 100 degree fov, but it will still be better than you get with the standard 1920×1080 16:9. I’m hoping they won’t be too awfully expensive, and if they are, I guess I’ll just take the plunge and go with a 3 monitor setup.
My support to this, too.
I’m one of the lucky ones. I don’t get sick due to this, but I do feel uncomfortable if I play for more than an hour or so (which I generally do), and sometimes get headaches.
Jon why are you flat out lying to us? DR in it’s current state cannot possibly affect botters and not affect farmers, let me explain why. Regardless of the strictness of when the DR triggers, the main issue is why the DR triggers not when. The karma DR triggers when a large number of events are done in a short period of time. A farmer will always be able to complete more events faster than a bot. It is impossible for a trigger of this type to affect bots and not legitimate players. Additionally a farmer will be more effective in combat than a bot and will therefore kill more enemies and get more items having the loot DR trigger faster than it would for a bot. Again this entire type of trigger is incapable of punishing a bot more than a player. You need safeguards yes, but they should be a net partway down the building not a shotgun at the door to the roof.
This here is the elephant in the room that Mr. Peters failed to address. A bot can NEVER play as efficiently as a live player can, no matter how well programmed it is. The only advantage to a bot is it never needs to take a break. Other than the fact that it can literally play for days, weeks, even months without stopping, a live player in the same amount of time will ALWAYS gain more loot/gold/karma/exp than a bot will.
Mr. Peters, please explain to us how a system that limits rewards based on how much was gained over a specific period of time could EVER affect a bot before it affects a farmer. -unless that period of time is long enough to account for the fact that the bot doesn’t ever need to stop, which would have to be in at least the “many hours” range. The current system is obviously no where near that kind of time frame.
Nietzsche was wrong. Not everyone has a desire to dominate.
Can someone clarify EXACTLY what the problem is? I just see people saying they get DR and how they hate it. Yet didn’t Anet say it was implemented to stop players from abusing game mechanics? I guess I just have yet to see anyone clarify exactly what they are dong to get DRs. I’ve yet to see DRs once and I’ve been playing since early access. If the system is to stop abusing game mechanics, then why is this so bad? From a rationale standpoint I just do not understand the outcry.
If someone could clarify what exactly they are doing when they get DRs it would be greatly appreciated.
This is why I have been asking people to start uploading videos with examples of DR triggering.
I am in the same boat- I play what I consider to be “normally”, and have not as yet run into the DR code. Many other people are saying they are also playing “normally”, but DO seem to trigger it. I’d like to get a look at some footage, and see what it is they are doing differently.
I see this as something that can only help EVERYONE. It will allow us to analyze what is causing DR to trigger, which will allow us ALL to figure out ways to maximize farming (and fun!) while still avoiding the DR.
I will even take some video of my own play, so that too can be analyzed to see what it is that I’m doing or not doing to avoid the DR. It may be a bit before I can get it uploaded, but I’ll start recording tonight.
The linked study seems to show that there is no difference in the chance to get ectoplasms when using a Mystic vs a Black Lion Kit. I’m wondering: has it actually been verified that lower tier kits can’t salvage ectos, or even that they have a lower percentage?
I’ve always just heard that you should always use a Mystic (or master) kit on 70+ rares, but now I’m wondering if anyone’s ever actually verified that lower tiered kits (even crude!) aren’t just as good?
I personally have seen for myself that it DOES NOT MATTER what kit you use if your goal is higher tier regular mats (i.e. orichcalcum, gossamer, and ancient wood). I’ve tested it on white salvage items, 100 each with a crude kit, a basic kit, and a master kit, and got about the same number of orichalcum each time. Now I’m wondering if perhaps the same applies to ectos?
Is there ANY VERIFIABLE advantage to using anything but a crude kit?
Some videos of this can’t do anything but help. They will allow a large number of people to analyze how the person is playing, and with a group effort, we could probably figure out the exact triggers. They say that knowing is half the battle- in this case, I’d say knowing is much more than half. By knowing exactly how the DR is triggered, it should be pretty easy to avoid.
Seriously people, post some videos!
I’m pretty happy with Warrior, and I hope they don’t change it too much.
My only complaints are the bugs, but those can be fixed.
Let’s hope bug fixes are the only changes, because as it stands, Warriors seem to be the happiest profession in the game with sooooo many kitten options! ;D
Pretty much how I feel. I’m really happy with my warrior right now.
