automatically removing all players from the queue
It is not just about number of wvw players. The score is ticking 24h, and some servers are able to cover this timeframe much better even with less players.
Score would be calculated every tick (so every five minutes
During the rush hour you can have many times more players compared to the opponents but maps are limited and queues will prevent extra people joining.
So, the population is not everything. There is also matter of defining “active wvw player”. Everyone has different opinion about what counts as active. Someone who spends 5 hours in wvw every day? Logs into wvw for at least 5 minutes? Couple times a week? Once a month?
tier 3 is defined as active participation. So it only counts those at tier 3 and above at the tick
Finally, there is huge number of players who do not go to wvw for the win and do not care about the score. They are doing it for fun. They are looking for fights only, either zerg vs zerg or group vs group or even 1v1. Taking or defending an objective is just a excuse for more fights.
What the OP proposes, if I understand it correctly, would end up creating hostile attitude against anyone else joining the wvw. "Oh, no, look at this player who just dared to pop into wvw, he is completely ruining our score, go away you nobb!
It is reasonable to say that if someone is at tier 3 participation, that they are doing SOMETHING to help the server. Right now, people just sit at home base to prevent outnumbered…
I honestly don’t care how many people are on other servers. What I do care about is that no matter how well or poorly my server plays, there are certain servers that we will always beat, and one that we can never beat.
I don’t know the actual number, but lets say that the max server population in wvw per server is 100 per map-so 400 all together. Furthermore, lets define active participation in wvw as tier 3.
Take the scores as they are currently generated, and multiply that by 400/(number of active players).
So if you have three servers (a,b, and c), with active populations of 400, 200 and 100 respectively server a would need to be four times as effective as server c in scoring order to have a higher score. Requiring tier three participation, would effectively prevent sandbagging an opponent.
Now, if server a has a high wvw population-it is reasonable to assume that they will have superior organization, commanders and offline resources. If they do not, players from server a will migrate to more efficient servers until equilibrium is reached.
In theory, this would balance out the servers pretty quickly. The Goliaths would be pushed by the smaller servers. Zerg mentality would no longer rule the day. Small groups or organized players would turn the tide.
Helpful suggestions are always appreciated.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that something has to be done with Black Gate, and probably the wvw server system in general.
Being on JQ, it is apparent that Blackgate is full or close to full during peak and most other times. This has to be a struggle for the player waiting to wvw maps to pop.
As a member of JQ, it is equally unfun to fight against them. Repeatedly getting run over by zergs three times your size is a problem. Going in every week, know that if you do your best and play a ton, the best you can hope for is second place is disapointing
I would think that you could expand the meta server system to remedy this issue. A soft cap, but you can join friends in up to a hard cap.
I know that this issue is complicated and that any remedy has to be well thought out, but something has to be done.
Since the update 15 minutes ago, severe skill lag. 20 secs for some to fire. Many people affected!

Once logged in, the forums are responsive. However, the initial login is bad. Same issue on mobile, 30 miles from my home and with a different provider.

it is frustrating enough to be dc’d because of ddos attack. getting dishonor makes it infuriating.
And has the same person on my ‘team’ the next match-same actions and result. Sixtine Pride needs to be permabanned!

People feel free to ignore the rules because there is no consequence. Rage idle after 90 seconds of a match? Three players report you-No Problem!!!
I understand that there are probably thousands of matches per day, but there has to be a way of tracking offenders, and actioning them. I get that it would be hard at the beginning but it would get easier as the offending players either started complying or left and the game would be much better off.

I hereby am formally announcing my protest to the loss of skill rank from my last match. ‘Teamates’ dc’d a total of three times for approximately 30 seconds per occasion. As anyone with knowledge of pvp understands,this makes the match unwinnable.
I want your algorithm for calculating skill ratings and match results updated so we are no longer penalized for these conditions.
It is bad enough you let people in pvp without the HoT expansion and little or no knowledge of the tongue of the realm. Allowing those without stable internet is completely unreasonable.

‘the legend myth’ is intentionally throwing ranked matches in ranked spvp. They have thrown the last two matches I participated in (one on each side). They are even bragging about it.The below is one small example example.
It seems to me, that if you added Story Chapters to the daily achievements, that it would be a nice addition. After all, many of us are poor jumpers-so jumping puzzles are either ignored or you wait for a kind Mesmer. The daily activities also seem to have limitations, like belchers bluff.
Adding in either a specific story chapter or one from a specific Season (for example any Living World Year Two Chapter would be refreshing and help many people appreciate the story more.

I was able to resolve the issue by changing maps. The content guild ‘should’ show you poi, vistas, wp hearts, and undiscovered areas.
It is ESSENTIAL for efficient world completion. Twice now it has been broken.
Please investigate and correct. It doesn’t appear to be working at all this time. It isn’t showing any poi, vistas, hearts or skill points that need to be completed.

It appears that the issue is that it isn’t directing to unexplored areas.
As you can see from the screenshot, it is not working at all at the moment.It seems that the issue was introduced with yesterday’s patch.
Instant death is a bad thing. Also, the terrain and jumps are awful. Because of these issues, there’s no pacing or sense of momentum. It really doesn’t feel like team pvp at all. The map is unsalvagable.
logicaly if ur mmr is low ur enemys shood be also in same range as you not only teammates?
This is the issue, because it is not the case. The matchmaker forms two teams that are within 15 pips of each other. The players on each team have a similar MMR, but the mmr of the two teams is completely unrelated-usually resulting in blowouts.
Keep getting teamed with the same awful players who don’t rotate or ‘are learning’(aka dont understand their class or the maps) or dc or go afk.
These players cause bad losses. Bad losses lower your mmr. Lowering your mmr means bad teams. Bad teams means bad losses.
I am a good player, but the math is so heavily stacked against me that it is inescapable.
I am begging to have this fixed.
about making PvP an ‘e-sport’, or even keeping the existing player base, then serious changes need to be made to pvp.
Reporting players for verbal abuse should be taken seriously. People should have consequences for false reports, but its a joke right now.
Others go afk or ‘guard the lord’ with zero consequence. Misbehavior reports need to to lead to consequences.
Also, please remember that feedback is a gift. Most players would simply find a different game and say nothing. I haven’t done that yet….
I pvp weekday evenings from 8-midnight eastern. I will rep while in pvp, but am active in another guild.
I am very comfortable on many classes but open to new builds and classes.
The fused weapon skins are amazing. However the price is well out of the range for most players. Would you please consider making them available for gems or black lion tickets again.
I deposited two stack of 250 platinum into the my guild bank. I change accounts and try to remove them. One stack disappears in the process.
This has happened twice now. The first time, the items reappeared later.

And, for clarification i have used a half dozen builds-mostly from metabattle, but not all. Also, Meta is not the be all end all of builds. they are made and voted on by people. Remember, some people like people like Trump.

aside from this, we have our matchmaker. This is not part of the actual Glicko algorithm, but instead uses Glicko ratings along with ladder position and other metrics in a way that attempts to make fair matches. The way it does this can be seen on the wiki. While each team average is attempted to be balanced, we still don’t want the spread on each team to be large either.
I have been stuck in tier 4 sapphire on this account for more than two weeks. Dozens and dozens of matches and I keep getting stuck with the same AWFUL ‘teammates’.
People who don’t speak English (the server language).

people who are using builds apparently picked out of a hat-including a staff guardian build last week.
Don’t even get me started on the number of fail warriors and thieves that have been teammates.
Anet KNOWS that people are abusing the system and has apparently done NOTHING to change it except for promises that may or may not make a difference in season two.
If you are claiming that the matchmaker is working ‘as designed’, then your design is an utter failure, if the goal is to allow reasonably talented players to progress through tiers using a solo queue. If you are conceding that the matchmaker is horrendously broken-admit it and remove tiers and the pvp tickets from the legendary backpacks.
PS. I was going to include the developer quote that we should report cheaters for additional amusement. However, it is not longer available-which is plenty amusing by itself.

So… this means that people are really going to flame ANET when their there expected win% is less than 50% and they lose pips.
Next, people are going to flame the MMR calculation versus the performance of their teammates.
Finally, there NEEDS to be a way of preventing someone from being on your team. I have had the same AWFUL thief on my team for 3 matches in a row. I can not prevent this from happening. This is not the first time it has happened, but it really should be the last. FORCING us to play with known incompatible teammates and causing us to lose pips is completely unreasonable? The only solution I see is logging off, and I don’t think that is what you want.
Why was this even a match? and please don’t tell me that the 2 emeralds arent highly ranked players on ftp accounts.

My argument is that they have far too narrow of a definition of outside of your skill bracket and/or the required score threshold.
Ultimately, I understand that matches are going to be lost. But to lose pips in matches like these means you are costing me time, effort and energy.

So… They have two groups of two players. they have two players in Sapphire and 3 in Emerald. My team has zero grouped players. Everyone in Emerald. We lost by 69 AND you guess it, we lose a pip.
Will Anet please just admit that this system is entirely fail and that they are NOT going to fix it this season IF ever? that would at least bring closure to this awfulness.
30 seconds into the match, a player on my team dc’s. They do NOT return. We lose a pip… The only thing I can figure is that they were in a group with another player.
Yet another pip lost because of poor programming and NO DEBUGGING OF ANY KIND.

Pip loss is an AWFUL concept.

People announcing they will do nothing-no consequence.
People going afk for 3 minutes and then acting like they are trying once the loss is already determined -no consequence.

I know that this post likely wont make a difference or change anyone’s mind, but I have been playing since beta and feel obligated to say something before I leave to give the chance to get it right.
