Yea same here.
In the UK on Sky broadband, never had any problems, even in the events, started yesterday with players jumping all over the place mainly in wvwvw

rebooted router etc..

Another thing I would suggest you buy (unless you already have one) is a solid-state drive. Apart from the overall performance boost to your PC, I suspect it helps GW2 run a bit smoother! I’m running a non-OC Phenom 965BE with 8Gb of DDR2 RAM and a 550GTi video card (2Gb version). Now according to most threads on the subject, I’m completely underpowered for this game – but apart from “heavy zergs” I can pull a not-too-shabby 20-35 FPS at Max settings (when I want to look at the pretty stuff).

If I set to ‘choose best setting’ it averages about 45-60. I think it’s my SSD..

You could try a Catleap monitor (graded iMac panel in a korean case) – look up 120hz.net, or the overclock forums.

I’ve just bought a ‘budget’ 27" AOC E2752VQ , and it’s loverly. Modern panel technology is either TN (cheap, but better colour replication & response time) or IPS (wide viewing angle, can be higher res).

General consensus is that TN = gamer screen, unless you can afford a very high end IPS that can match the TN for response – hence the Catleap, which are one variant of repackaged ‘grey import’ monitors built around not-A+ Apple panels. Some are 120hz+, and sell for about £300-400 – only via Ebay though.

Also, if you look at the right side of each progress bar (there are dozens, if not hundreds under the various achievement sub-headings) you will see a Tier rating (number of tiers varies). Some also have a crown symbol, which means that when you max out that set of tiers, you gain a title.

Receives an infraction for detraction from debate. I disagree, because to my mind a large part of the event was childish, whereas Halloween (All Hallow’s Eve) is anything but.

There is also an achievement for eating 150(?) candy corn, but it isn’t listed on the ‘Special Event’ tab. I don’t know whether that somehow goes toward one of the lesser achievements

3/4 includes Act 3 (just need to visit the areas, not complete/win anything), Act 4 will be ‘Party’

Two issues: MS Nvidia update & 'Syrup' movement

Thought I’d cover both in one post, although they’re unrelated.

1) I notice MS update has an Nvidia driver update (15/10, WDDM 1.2) – has anyone had issues with this, or is it ‘safe’ for GW2?

2) When in combat, or when under mob aggro/exiting combat, my run speed feels like I’m running through syrup. It’s not an FPS issue, because I keep an average of 50-55FPS in and out of PvE combat. It takes a few seconds after killing/dropping aggro for my syrup feet to wear off.

My specs are: 965BE quad stock, 550Ti 2Gb, Crucial M4 SSD, 8GB Crucial gaming RAM. It might be CPU-related, but any attempt to OC this CPU causes GW2 to lock up and crash. Any tips gratefully received!

Edit: CPU is set to performance and SSD is optimised

Hi,

I’ve dipped my toes into WvW, and think it’s potentially brilliant – but after a few chats and thoughts with a fellow player I work with, I thought I’d post my ideas; Please feel free to flame if they’ve already been covered:

1) Repair bills: No.

People who come in with damaged armour leave with the same damage (and assume the same damage received scaling). People who come in with undamaged, leave that way. It’s a bad by-product of zerging that player A will attempt their quota of kills against a much stronger zerg force and generate a stupid repair bill.

Please don’t tell me it’s anti-bot, that isn’t an argument we should need to enter in to.

2) Paying gold for siege weapons: Bad.

Why not let players choose to buy these with unused karma/dungeon tokens too? Then you would get more WvW-dedicated players back into PvE during their downtimes to ‘earn’ siege wep purchases. I’d happily blow my current karma on these, and work up a + balance to buy more.

3) Marking: after reaching WvW ‘centre-point’, it’s nearly impossible at the moment to locate any fighting. Is it possible to mark Allies on the big map please?

+1 to this. Bleedin’ awful views of top fights (dragons, etc) – and the camera doesn’t pan back enough on top of it all. Is this an anti-pvp/wvw touch?

If it helps, I’ve levelled one skill (jewellery) to 400 without purchasing anything – but that skill appears to be the easiest in terms of materials.

My second skill (huntsman) is hovering about 200 now – I’ve had to go back and find farming areas for the various accessories that constitute required ingredients for that level range – not easy at all.

I regularly find Karma heart merchants selling gathering gear, but I’d rather hog the karma for ‘later use’ (when I found out what it’s really useful for)

One tip: you only mention one character. Why not create an extra that can use the alternate materials to craft bags? Then when you find a vendor that supplies gathering tools, buy twice as many?

Yippiee for all you RH’ers – I’m so gutted that your mice sometimes lack the precision you demand.
Now look at it from a LH point of view:

No buttons apart from LH/RH click – maybe you could add a bit via L/R scroll, but it’s a debit from fingertip control.

Ambidextrous mice: even shape, but they still focus the buttons to RH (the few that don’t – don’t create enough)

I know this isn’t Anet’s fault in any way, but it IS worth raising.

Addendum to resetting turrents:

Is this a bug or exploit?

Turret, when cast, should block the associated toolbelt skill, yes?

My turret toolbar will re-enable my secondary turret skills at the same time that my main turret ‘drop’ spells re-appear when bugged.

I have the choice of:

1) ignoring the ‘fresh timer-free’ drop

2) using the ‘oh it hasn’t been dropped yet’ secondary skills, despite the turret being dropped and active.

Mobs and player sink into the scenery.

Screen attached should show me in the centre, but I’ve gone into the wall

Just also noted that other mobs and scenery ‘vanish’ when viewed from this point – moving out into the lake brings them back on screen

Heart quests completely broken.

When they say ‘displaced spirits’ they really mean it!

Also, no ‘ghostly spiders’, just forest spiders and no demons of any sort.

Edit: found 1 demon spawning in a far corner, attacking 1 logger. None of the dead loggers could be ressed elsewhere

Two Weeks of This and Getting Worse

I upgraded mine to a 965BE quad too (8GB DDR2 RAM, SSD, Win7 64bit), but I only get minor dips below 40FPS in PvE – normally sits around 55-60 (EVGA 550Ti 2GB card – FPS limiter set at 60 both in game settings and in card profile).

I’ve yet to throw myself into WvW much yet, have just explored a bit.

I use ‘recommended settings’ for video, and the CPU is at stock unlocked – when I tried a simple OC, the game crashed every ten minutes.

Charr starter zone – tower near trolls with Vista and ‘Sniper Rifle’ out at the same point.

Standing at the rifle enables the ‘interact’ button for you to fire it. This also swivels the rifle around. When you ‘leave’ the rifle, it swivels back and traps you between the barrel and the platform it sits on. Can’t roll/jump/shrink out of it – I had to log/relog to escape.

Does using better salvaging kits increase ecto chances?

BL kits are 60% (new tooltip). I’ve used them and got between 0-3 ectos.

I went back and did a few ‘grey’ discoveries, just to use up some spare materials I had, so it is possible.

Look at what you did discover at the time, then do a check against what you didn’t use.

You might have missed off some filigree discoveries, which would then open up new accessory discoveries.

Simple routine for a big heal:

Drop turret, wait 1sec, explode turret. For me, that’s nearly a full HP refill.

When running point to point, when I take damage along the route, I can drop turret and explode it just before I run out of it’s field to get the wave every time.

I agree that it has several bugs, including the regen – also seems to get bugged by grenade ‘autoswitchoff’ (when grenades revert to normal spells without telling you!)

Alright, after SEVERAL times of attempting Forging the Pact, I’ve finally nailed the cause of the glitch (I think).

I have completed it twice. The first time I was rolled back. The second time, I choose the “stay here” option after completing it in a party. Besides that, I’ve had the quest bug out on me 4+ times.

Now, when you head to rescue the first set of researchers, you have to enter the building.

This building to be precise. I have cropped the image into the area you need to be in, any other area WILL not trigger the event. Trahearne and the researcher must have the conversation of there being multiple waves and Trahearne replying they will face soldiers next time. Again, the only way to trigger this conversation is if both you and Trahearne are in this building/area.

The problem faced by many is that they either stand in the green circle on the map or do not enter the building. Every time I DID NOT enter the building, this conversation did not trigger. I believe this is the cause. After the you beat the waves of undead you should get a cutscene (something I believe that doesnt happen if the conversation does not trigger – I’m not sure so someone will have to confirm this as well).

Please try this out and let me know.

When mine finally worked, I knew something was different as I’d never had that cutscene before.

Still bugged after a patch. Wiki says

If Trahearne dies before your party reaches the “Escort the researchers to the southern exit with Trahearne.” part of the mission a bug will stop Trahearne from leading the researchers and you will have to restart the mission!

Does anyone tried to prevent Trahearne’s deaths?

Doesn’t make any difference if he lives or dies.

Not that I agree with bots, but botters and you have one thing in common: they invested $65 into the game to spend their time dealing with bots. Theyre just profiting from it xD

A quick Google shows that a lot of the botting accounts probably aren’t paid for.

Rocket/Rifle/Healing turrets:

after a while (possibly after my grenades autoswitch back to rifle) the secondary skills disappear and are replaced by ‘deploy turret’ icon – even though my original turrets are still up and working.

I got a single ‘ruined rock’ from mining mithril with a mithril pick – all the others were ok. Possibly a rare higher gem in the node?

I’m happy to say that this finally worked for me. I didn’t res the asura outside. Trahearne died twice, but got ressed by NPCs. The ‘stuck’ character in the first defence came along this time. The mobs on the slope up to the 2nd party all attacked at once as soon as we entered the cave (not sure that was intended). All NPC party members followed down to the barred gate (again, all mobs seemed to be linked in a big pull).
Now, the ‘new’ part: 2 packs of mobs attacked – intended? Or was the tethering slackened? Was a fairly hard fight, but I’m 80 now so bearable.
So happy this has been fixed (for me) – onwards and upwards!

Still bugged.

No scene plays at the end of the cave – the NPCs (apart from Trehearne) still don’t want to enter the tunnel where it starts to slope down. All NPCs are still alive, including one I ressed at the start, waiting at the instance entrance – maybe that’s the bug? I’ve even gone around to the outside of the barricade – nothing happens.

Am I getting annoyed? Yes. I’ve wasted about 6 hours trying to outfox this bug.

The crafting is fine the way it is. The point of crafting is not to have super powerful armor but to be able to get the stats you want easily.

It would be nice to receive a bonus of sorts when unlocking all of a certain level of discovery though. Something suitable for that level, but tweaked stats (i.e., a copper-based rare, level 20)

the tethering code seems rather short, and is made worse by elevation/corners – I can dodge around a wall when over-pulling and all the mobs disengage – if I carry on in a straight line, they will still chase.
Interestingly, a mob chasing me tonight stalled (I was just running through an area), so I stopped, thinking it would tether and return (any further and I would have ported to the next map) – it started to return, then paused for a few secs and resumed attack. A few steps further and it decided enough was enough, and tethered back.

I find this slightly variable behaviour beneficial – the official guides tell you very early on that positioning is critical.

Not a major bug by any means, but the poor thing is not having a good time digging itself into the sand – makes my wife go ‘awww’ and look at kitten pictures for therapy :Os (and yes, I did type kitten!)
