I have an r9 290x and the game crashes after character selection. Just minimizes, stops responding, and prevents interaction with any other windows. As much as I really like the game and have played it since launch without issue, I’ve stopped even bothering opening it most of the time.
Sounds like issues with your connection and client, not something Anet can help you with. Have you tried repairing your client or uninstalling and reinstalling?
If you want to be realistic about it; yes, you can still be large and work out constantly. However, given the age of the world and how it seems to be in an agricultural age, there’s almost zero chance of anyone being fat (least of all the average human). Most humans are living off of vegetables, grains, and some animal byproducts; and work from sunup to sundown just to live.
That said, it’s just not practical. People already complain about armor on charr and how it doesn’t fit properly. Adding even one more, distinct, body type could be a nightmare for the programmers.
I’m currently in the market for a new guild, so I’m testing the waters with a few (meaning I won’t be able to rep 100% across all my characters for the “trial” period – but I do rep 100% when I do join a guild).
I’m not a new player, but I did not play GW1. I’m also mostly PvE focused, although I am on Yak’s Bend.
What is your current schedule for events?
I’m currently in the market for a new guild and am testing the waters with a few on Yak’s Bend. I’m mostly PvE focused but need groups for dungeons/fractals and like doing guild events. Do you have a schedule for events (ie what time you get together for WvW, guild events, etc.)?
Great! Thank you.
Still recruiting?
How often, and at what times, do you guys run dungeons and fractals? PvE is usually my main interest in MMOs so I just want to be sure my schedule meshes with the guild’s.

Until today, I’ve had great performance with an FX-8150 and 2 Sapphire 7870 OC Editions in XFire.
I noticed today that the game was running poorly. I’m using 2 7870s, so I shouldn’t have any problems. I think the patch today is causing a ton of technical problems. It doesn’t work well with Eyefinity anymore either, which is odd because it worked fine yesterday.
Perhaps consider Heroes of Tyria. They’re PvX on Yak’s Bend. Here’s their recruitment post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/recruitment/YB-PvX-Heroes-of-Tyria-is-Recruiting
I’m a member there now, although I mostly solo because I’m low level and enjoy the lore. They are fairly active though.
I’m currently on Devona’s Rest, but am open to creating new characters on another server. I must reiterate PvE content must actually be a focus for the guild. Too often I get burned by “we’re a PvX guild that does PvE content” only to find out these runs rarely happen due to lack of interest. Not that I’m opposed to the occasional PvP or WvW, but I’m mostly in GW2 for the story/lore.
That aside, I’m 30 and a casual MMO player. Real life comes first and I play a lot of other games, so this won’t be a daily thing for me (hence, why I’m seeking a casual guild). I’m looking for a guild on a NA server (preferably EST time zone, but not necessary). I play mostly in the early evening (6ish to 9ish) and Sundays.
A guild that wouldn’t mind showing me the ropes in dungeons would be appreciated. Since it can be hard to find PvE guilds, I haven’t run any dungeons yet.
If you’d like any other info, feel free to ask.
Sulphor: in-game, try sending a message to BabyTonberry.1845. Out of game, try sending a PM. This post is 4 months old. OP might not be checking it anymore.
Absolutely. The game is fantastic right now (not without it’s flaws, but fantastic none the less). An expansion would only make it bigger and better.
That sounds great! I wish they’d do it to the entire game though.
I have always liked world pvp and pvp servers. But in really into WvW zergs and sPvP is kinda borring imo. Why cant we have dueling and open world pvp!
Open world PvP has only ever discouraged cooperation. Since GW2 is built with cooperation in mind, it would be counterproductive. Dueling wouldn’t be a bad option if it weren’t for people who just spam requests any time they sit still for more than 5 seconds.
I believe side-kicking is when they adjust your level, or a friend’s, when you are questing together so the power isn’t so lopsided it isn’t even fun for the lower level character.
An Engineer?! The 10th Doctor would not have used guns!
Seriously though, that’s some nifty customization.
Probably once every 5-10 hours for me.
I’d say engineer but that’s one of my two characters (the other being a guardian (which I also don’t find the superpowered beast everyone else does)). It seems like I do so little damage and take so much. It wouldn’t be so bad if respawn times were much longer, but there have been many times when an enemy has respawned before I could kill a second. I seem to have the tendency to favor the most broken characters in games (in WoW, I was a warlock). Don’t get me wrong, I love the game and think it’s easily the best MMO I’ve played, but I regularly see characters soloing multiple enemies, and I have trouble against anything not one on one.
Quaggan backpack. It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.
I really need to get in there and level my main more so I don’t miss out on too much content this time!
It’s that way in any MMO forum. Yet all the people complaining still play.
Sounds interesting. Can’t wait to get into a dungeon.
I’m digging it. Asks for a code when I log into my account every time it should and doesn’t when it shouldn’t (when I’ve told it to remember my network).
Some settings affect CPU performance, so swithcing settings from medium to max will have some effect if indeed the CPU is the bottleneck.
If the 7000 series GPU ur using is somthing along the lines of a 7870 or 7950 then 30 fps in a PvE zone is rather low, i suspect ur likely hitting a CPU bottleneck but their are other possibiilities like PCE bottlenecks if ur running on a PCIE x1 instead of a x16.It really does help to have a GPU & CPU monitoring program running a overlay (OSD) when running GW2 to let u know whether ur experiancing GPU bottlenecks or not. Becouse in PvE ..if ur GPU is not maxing out when u get sub 60 fps ..then its highly likely to be a CPU bottleneck regardless of CPU usuage.
That is, most likely, the issue. I am only using a FX-8150. I didn’t have time to performance test it last night but I did download Afterburner for it’s OSD. Since AMD’s System Monitor didn’t have the option. I’m hoping ArenaNet utilizes more cores but, if not, everything runs well enough for me. I’ve been satisfied with my GW2 experience. Even on medium everything looks and runs great.
I’m using Windows 8 (never had another OS on the drive) and GW2 runs perfectly. Granted, I’ve never been to Lion’s Arch (only been playing a couple months) but I’ve had no performance issues aside from the cutscenes being the wrong size for my Eyefinity resolution.
I just finished trying the 7xxx series GPUs and I was getting over 30 fps at 1920×1080, with all setting maxed, without any dips (but this was in a sparsely populated PvE zone and Rata Sum). That’s with a FX 8150 CPU too. So, don’t take the criticism too harshly. A lot of fanboys on both AMD and Intel sides. However, GW2 does only use 3 of your cores (I’m hoping they change this in the future) so having more cores doesn’t do you any good, it’s really down to thread speed (which Intel does best right now).
Oddly enough, when I switched back to 5760 × 1080 (in the same zone), and left the settings maxed, everything ran at nearly the same fps. If I switched from medium settings to higher settings without changing the resolution, I would dip to 19 fps or so. I’ll have to test the consistency of that this weekend.
I have some issues with fps too, but I think mine is due to Crossfire and Eyefinity. Even with 2 HD 7870s in Crossfire, 32gb of RAM, and an FX-8150, I pull around 20-25 (or lower) fps on high settings; but I’m running it at 5760×1080. I’ve never really tried it on a single display, but I can test it out later tonight if you haven’t gotten an answer by then since I am using a 7xxx series.

I’m still getting the issue with the cut scenes and character creation clipping the top and (presumably) the bottom of the characters off when using Eyefinity on 3 monitors. Although hilarious to see 2 Norn chests having a conversation, given their typical height, I can’t help but find it annoying. At least it’s not game breaking. In fact, I never even noticed on my Asura Engineer. Just looked like 2 profiled Asura having a conversation.
Any updates on where this is on the priority list?
I’m surprised these MMO players are dissatisfied with the latest patch, said no person ever. Business as usual “This game with millions of players isn’t tailored to ME!” Considering I’m not paying a subscription fee, I welcome any content and patch. No MMO will ever be perfect, but I always appreciate ArenaNet’s effort.
“I like to wait until new content releases before I decide if I like it or not.”
By running an efficient business and offering a great product, as well as offering optional premium content that is not gamebreaking. It’s really about efficiency more than anything else. They must have some very talented producers to go along with the rest of the staff.
Edit (for relevance): So, it’s more about using the money they have efficiently than it is about having a steady income.

Terrible suggestion, no offense. If it really were the “only way for ANet to save face” it would be because their player base is a lazy and entitled bunch. Which, I’d like to think we are not, but the past few days have really made me question it.
There’s a world of difference between wanting gear handouts and wanting a game free of a gear treadmill.
From the discussion above, it seems that players would rather the stats of Ascended items be the same as exotics. That’s not lazy and entitled. Players just want to have the game free of gear grind—the game marketed to them.
This is still far from a gear grind as far as we know. We don’t know drop rates or anything concrete. Everyone is just paranoid it’ll be like WoW where, yes, you do have to run a dungeon or raid a couple dozen times or more to get all your gear. So far, we’re talking about 1 piece that is craft-able and 1 piece that is a drop inside the dungeon. A dungeon that gets more difficult the more you play it and you start with your exotics or whatever you have. Meaning, it’s entirely possible, if not probable, that you will get the ring through regular gameplay well before you require it due to Agony.
There’s just so much up in the air and, as usual, the MMO community starts freaking out because this meaningless task, done for entertainment, might suddenly be slightly more meaningless because there’s something marginally better (about 8%, I’m reading so far).

>> im done this thread is out of control…. blind hate everywhere. Theres a few clear minded folks here that aren’t blindly freaking out over everything so thanks for those debates. As to the rest of you calling AN a sleazy company and raging about everything and how your quitting….. really use your eyes go read, better yet read and actually understand what it is your reading. Then calm yourself.
I’m hoping they do quit at this point. Better community for the rest of us. You certainly had more patience than I.
I see no problem with ascended gear so long as it doesn’t become a requirement to play content.
It will become more and more of a requirement to play an increasing amount of content
Unless it doesn’t.
Don’t you love circular rhetoric?
Please read, and read it again if needs to:
“This extremely dangerous condition ticks percentages of player health away and can’t be cleansed by normal means. Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.”
“Infusions are a special new type of Upgrade Component that can only be slotted into special Infusion slots on gear…For now, Infusions slots can only be found in gear of a new rarity type: Ascended.”
So yes, it does “become a requirement to play content”.
“Increasingly difficult” does not mean “unbeatable.” If you wanted everything handed to you, play D3. You can just buy whatever you want and don’t have to worry about the scary difficulty. It’s incredibly vague wording that leaves much to interpretation. Apparently, as MMO players often do, they’ve taken the absolute worst (and frankly, ridiculous) interpretation, accepted it as fact, then reacted.
Hell, since everyone is so bent on this “they promised us this 3 months ago and now they’re changing it. cry cry cry” b.s., it stands to reason this may also change after it’s been fully fleshed out.

I see no problem with ascended gear so long as it doesn’t become a requirement to play content. In an MMO like WoW, without the best gear (and the associated hours upon hours of grinding to get it), you cannot complete most of the end game content. So long as the end game content in GW2 can still be completed with exotic gear, making ascended gear completely optional, I would be all for it. It gives an incentive to play more for those who want it, but doesn’t force it on anyone that doesn’t.
Perhaps end game content should be scaled to exotic gear and the marginal increases from ascended and legendary would just make said content slightly easier. The key is options. Not requirements, and I think that’s where the devs are heading. So, I’m all for it.
The problem is that it will not be good enough and you will need to obtain the new ascended gear to delve deeper into the fractals – or else “agony” will get ya! What a great concept, hmm, where have I heard this before?
Which is why I suggested all content be scaled to exotics. People, Y U no read?!
In an MMO like WoW
But GW2 wasn’t supposed to be a MMO like WoW XD
Which is why I differentiated the 2. Is anyone even reading anymore or is it just rampant butthurt? I’d like to know if I’m wasting my time.
I agree with you completely and it’s one reason why I quit WoW. You couldn’t hardly play content unless you studied the dungeons and raids before you even got to play them. Screw that. It takes all of the fun out of it for me. There’s nothing new or exciting. Just trying to copy something someone else has already done.

Except they didn’t convey their ‘good’ reasons (at least for some of the stuff). They just changed it. If they actually stated a good reason why somethings changed, it wouldn’t be so much of a problem. Its the (seemingly) lack of communication.
It’s a bit unrealistic to expect them to run every change by the community. Some things, like the dyes, are done to keep a market for them instead of letting them become worthless. Is anyone going to feel better now that they still have to buy them? No. It’s just a weak justification to be mad. As if the majority of players really understand anything about balance in game design and will suddenly feel better if they know the reason behind every action (which, if they did, would undoubtedly be met with comments about how the devs have no idea what they’re doing, are incompetent, and are ruining the game – just like now).
I feel this post is based on unrealistically high expectations that were eventually met with reality and resulted in, undeservingly, belligerent criticism. That’s just my opinion though. Apparently, some others disagree.
Man, do you know the amount of junk I’ve had to read through today because you ran right out and started complaining about the moderation of this post? Hate to break it to you, but this is what you call game development. You were promised nothing. Things change, and nitpicking every tiny thing that didn’t go the way you envisioned is pointless. The changes were made with good reason. They might not always pan out, but they were made with good intentions (and will probably be changed if they don’t work).
It won’t make me play more or less. It’s entirely optional. If I want to work towards better gear, I can. If I don’t want to, there’s plenty of other stuff to do and other characters to make.
You really don’t have to get legendary gear. Legendary gear should be extremely tough to get and require a lot of commitment. I’d prefer to never get legendary gear because I have other things going on than have a completely watered down set of gear because some people wanted it but didn’t want to actually work towards it.
I’m fine with it, and I HATE the endless gear grinding of the WoW treadmill model. Sounds like it’s intermediate gear landing between easy to obtain and difficult to obtain. Regardless of the minor differences between them, it’s the ease at which you can obtain them that is the difference. Not so much the stats (which means there’s no need to push for them if you decide you don’t want to since no one will be requiring you to have the gear.).
