Shared Inventory Slot Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tierce.5370

I haven’t played for about a month, what with being busy over the holidays. I logged in today to do a few Fractals and found out about this.

GREAT concept, but pricey. I would personally like to see a shared slot sold at about 300 gems, and if there must be a maximum number that can be purchased, then 20 would be it. That would equal one max capacity shared inventory bag for 6000 gems (USD $75).

This is because I’ve got all those various keys and crowbars and salvage kits and consumables and boosters and tonics and ascended items on and on that I’d like to have accessible to all my characters.

Anyway, I’ll probably still buy at least one slot for my copper-fed salvage-o-matic, regardless…

It means that if your pet has 5 stacks of might (durations don’t matter) and you have 10 stacks of might (durations continue to not matter) that when you hit WHAO you’ll gain 5 stacks of might for 10s and your pet will gain 10 stacks of might for 10 seconds.

Looks like a fair change to me. Thanks for this and the post-BWE3 changes.

[Suggestion] Dungeon Karma Rewards

Dear developers,

Has adding karma rewards been considered as part of the dungeon rewards rework?

Karma is of limited use overall, but I have a friend who wouldn’t mind more ways to acquire karma for obsidian shards to build the older legendaries. Karma is also already given to players who do Fractals of lower level than their personal reward level.

Just a thought.

So… recording gameplay to review and turning on the combat log isn’t enough. ( -_-)

We might already have a record in our chat options to see our dps but thts just not enough.. many times have i done say 5k but the record shows i hit for 688. Sometimes it shows for the exact amount.

The combat log shows damage per strike in the attack chain. The splashy numbers onscreen show the running total.

So, spirits?

in Ranger

Posted by: Tierce.5370

Tierce.5370

Yes it was removed, spirits really are only useful in pve, and only then when you are going to be in one place for long enough to benefit such as dungeons.

and only then when the boss doesn’t have an aoe which will wipe them out…

I wanted to mention this: spirits proc their effects until their corpse disappears. In the case of Frost Spirit, for instance, the buff doesn’t actually go away until 15 seconds have elapsed after the spirit dies and the skill goes on cooldown. We can summon another spirit five seconds later. I usually find that spirits last “long enough” in dungeons.

It occurred to me that, maybe what ArenaNet is concerned about, with the WHaO buff-nerf, isn’t ranger. It’s druid.

If a buffed WHaO gave us limitless power in exchange for losing our heal, condi cleanse, stunbreaks and pet swaps, we could still slot an extra stunbreak. The pet is only a portion of our total character anyway. So we were disadvantaged by losing the cleanse and the heal. With druid, however:

Druidic Clarity removes 13 conditions simply by entering the avatar.
And we know what druid does really well. That thing that rhymes with squeal.

sits back; heals hyena, hyena ally, and rock dog; sips a martini < living the dream.

Well, back to my mediocre ranger life.

Irenio, my main wish is for direct or condition damage to regenerate astral force faster so I could feel easy about running the Druid trait line with non-staff weapon sets.

Not sure if Healing Spring/Water Spirit/Spirit of Nature or fern hound regen count as “healing allies” for the sake of generating astral force, as I didn’t think to check with what little time I had to play this weekend. If it’s not already there, it’d be nice to get a pop of astral force when using one of these skills. (Accumulating astral force through Signet of the Wild passive pet regen would be too easy, wouldn’kitten

I have to say I was originally upset by the healing concept, but it’s turning out more fun than I thought it would be. Keep it up.

Snoring, I hear you about running out of inventory space. I usually have two sets of exotic armor on my characters (one Berserker’s, one Soldier’s). Trinkets and weapons are all Berserker’s. I recently started acquiring condition armor on my most-played characters. Then there’s consumables, tonics, event-related items, fun weapons with oddball sigils or pretty skins for changing up my wardrobe, etc. etc. etc.

So I salvage a lot of drops. All my characters routinely carry 2-3 crude salvage kits and one master’s kit. I also have a copper-fed salvage kit that gets passed around to the active character.

With all eight bag slots unlocked, it’s been manageable so far, but I am tempted to drop even partial optimization and outfit everyone with celestial gear. :P

I would like to add that WHaO with stronger boon transfers would potentially open up a fresh new damage dealing ranger build for raids. As far as I can tell, all rangers currently get is designated healbot and a relatively boring condition damage build.

There’s always FrostSpotter for direct damage, I suppose. The same old build we’ve had for years.

So about that WHaO, with the boons that only apply to ourselves and our pet and nobody else even though group buffs are paramount in PvE group play. Can you extend the cap on the copied boon durations some more, please. Then leave it for a couple of weeks so we can get a handle on whether this is worthwhile or not.

Tierce.5370

Coming from a PvE perspective, I wanted to say the buff-nerf to WHaO struck me as an amazingly knee-jerk reaction.

I’ll repeat what others have said: running WHaO required heal and stunbreak to go on cooldown most of the time and deprives us of our best condition removal. It made WHaO interesting for once, part of a super DPS focused build that felt similar to what Most Dangerous Game trait gives, a feeling of kill or be killed.

It would have been really interesting to see how this performed in HoT style battle, because dungeons are considered obsolete and Fractals to 50 is passé. (-_-)

Also it seems to me that because ranger weapons start at a low base damage coefficient, giving the class somewhat more quickness on demand isn’t that unreasonable. Ranger greatsword auto-attack damage with quickness is brought up to approximately guardian auto-attack levels, for instance.

(Then we have a pet… we have a pet. Which is often detrimental or not applying itself fully, the lazy creature.)

At any rate, I had hoped the devs would wait for a bit to see how things shake out. Very disappointing.

10-Man buffing is "limiting"

In my desired scenario (10 man buffs), you got WARRIOR/ELE/CHRONO/RANGER/GUARDIAN/REV/REAPER/SCRAPPER/DAREDEVIL/1 FREE SLOT.

No class is left out, and you get a choice of extra for flexibility.

What if:
(1) the 10 players scraped out of your smallish guild don’t include a scrapper
(2) you have three reapers with Masteries unlocked who want to play
(3) the guardian disconnects in the midst of the run and all you can get is another mesmer, and
(4) it turns out that stacking 10 guardians is, with 10-player buffs, the best, most efficient way to complete the raid?

If someone could point me towards a video of where the original ArenaNet comment was made, so I can get an idea of the context, that’d be great.

It occurred to me today while mulling this over that, aside from the balancing issues, ArenaNet probably doesn’t want the “bring one of everything” meta that could be a potential result of allowing 10-player buffs.

When they said that would be limiting, it’s also about how it would limit the number of solutions when solving the raid.

Tierce.5370

Trying to figure out ArenaNet’s rationale.

As for variety in raids, yes, there will always be an “optimum” composition whether or not they allow supergroups. Which is probably why they won’t allow supergroups.

Imagine one of the current dungeons magnified into a raid. Guess what it’ll look like 3-6 months from now. Probably something like this.

Don’t need stealth.
Don’t need portals.
Don’t need lame kitten reflects.

We need:

One warrior for Phalanx Strength and banners, one ranger for FrostSpotter-maybe-Fury, and seven other spots taken by elementalists because they have the highest AoE damage and good defense coverage when everything explodes before it has a chance to move. Also, the eles can prestack Might/Fury for everyone should they so desire.

For PUGs, it’ll be one warrior, one ranger, and seven hammer guards with “Feel My Wrath!” I realize FMW was just nerfed, but look, you can now chain seven guardians to cover everyone in a 10-player group within the 45 seconds cooldown. A few guards could run boon duration increases and voila, perma quickness for everybody! \o/

Should players find a way to “OS” (one-shot) some annoying boss, it’ll turn into “need a XYZ” whatever class that is. Then we run six ele or guards.

If condi damage becomes king in this hypothetical raid based on current dungeon mechanics, we run 1x warrior and 9x rangers with bonfire/quickdraw (AoE burn all the things), or 1x warrior + 1x ranger + 8x burn guards, or 8x necro.

Redesigning raids to allow 10-player boon sharing (supergroups) isn’t going to influence people into magically inviting underutilized classes. Players will only have a wider option to invite other classes, like we have the option to wear Nomad’s armor.

Restricting people may actually promote more creativity and resourcefulness. It also breaks down the raid group into more manageable chunks. In two parties of five in this hypothetical dungeon-raid, we can run:

Party 1:
1x warrior
1x ranger
3x ele

Party 2:
1x warrior
1x ranger
2x ele
1x necro <—because we ran out of ele AND because a random class stuffed in this last slot doesn’t stick out as much, AND feels like it can’t do as much damage if played badly since it’s attached to the 2nd raid sub-unit. So let’s give it a chance.

At the worst, keeping two 5-player parties potentially means ArenaNet gets exactly the same kind of “diversity” they would have gotten should they allow 10-person boon sharing, and without the headache of having to balance yet another game mode.

Anyway, that’s how I’m reading all this.

Also remember that ranger longbow damage varies by distance. If you’re using it in melee range, you’ll get weak auto-attacks.

Long Range Shot:
Damage Damage if range is greater than 1000: 317 (0.9)?
Damage Damage if range is between 500-1000: 263 (0.8)?
Damage Damage if range is less than 500: 211 (0.7)?
Combo Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile (20% chance)
Range.png Range: 1,500

You’ve also got to look at rate of fire. Shortbow damage numbers appear lower, but it fires faster and there is additional damage coming from bleeds if hitting the target from behind or the side.

A word on brown bear: as a secondary pet it can be a decoy, projectile blocker, body blocker, and additional AoE condition removal. This can be important in a chaotic situation where mobs are slow to die, nobody’s removing conditions, or reflects are nonexistent or projectiles are unblockable.

I’m aware that the majority of ranger players don’t use bears as anything but “set and forget” pets but there you go. The legend of bearbow continues.

Interesting. While I’d like the ability to merge different Exotic gear into one piece such that I could save inventory space and select between stats while out of combat, the ability should cost as much as making an Ascended piece, if not higher (gem store item?). Then after you’ve made the piece, you have to get the Exotics that you want to fuse into it.

Players are then forced to make clear choices between (horizontal) tiers: lock themselves into one stat combo by making Ascended gear but have higher numerical stats, or gain stat combo flexibility through the Mystic tier but have access to only Exotic level stats. (Mystic and Ascended feel roughly equivalent to me when handled this way.) Legendaries should retain both the highest stats available in the game and the ability to switch stat combos out of combat since they’re supposed to be top tier.

The idea of Legendary sigils and runes that allow players to switch between all the types available is also interesting and possibly workable if ArenaNet wants to give us another big gold sink.

Kick the ranger

Tierce.5370

I believe Nike still views DeKeyz’s spreadsheet calculations linked by Gunsnroll above as current since he referred to them in this individual class DPS Reddit post (Sept. 17, 2014). Nike adds that these are rough estimates in an organized dungeon group, and that team buffs are more important than individual DPS.

On a related note, for uncoordinated groups, ranger can not only provide an increased damage boost with Frostspotter, they can give protection, regen, swiftness, might, and fury through pets, spirits, and offhand warhorn. Rangers don’t need to rely entirely on fields being in the right place to apply decent boons to a party.

Oxidia—ranger players often prefer max range because we get higher individual damage by standing further away, like mesmer greatsword. If I’m not mistaken, however, longbow has been buffed so its damage is comparable to greatsword even in melee range, though it’s single target. As an aside, one of the best things about longbow is being able to reapply vulnerability on a boss very quickly.

That said, getting kicked straightaway while playing ranger has happened to me a few times. Yes, it’s rude but what can I do aside from take solace in the fact that (a) I know what I’m doing most of the time and (b) my other main is a might-fury-stacking, icebow-LH-spamming elementalist. Most people I’ve encountered in PUGs have been courteous to my ranger anyway. Can’t take it personally. Thanks for being a little indignant on behalf of rangers.

34.3 with a mini.
34.1 with no mini and one illusion.
34.5 with mini and illusion.

Test procedure was “10 attacks (hardly totally significant but I doubt it will suddenly vary significantly over 100 attacks and I don’t really want to test 100 attacks), full sin gear/zerker trinkets/backpack. No crits, no vuln, obviously.”

This is a correction to the earlier post in the other thread. I was wrong about the mini not working on warrior in PvE. I went back to those ettins to see about isolating only the Lv19 ones on warrior. Short form (average damage):

• No mini: 77.8
• Mini equipped: 82.2
• Banner of Defense: 76.2
• Series 7 Golem asura elite: 80.3

The damage increase is variable but it’s there. Banner of Defense didn’t trigger the bonus.

Also, results for Ranger vs. Lv80 karka near Southsun’s Lion Point WP.
• No ranger runes: 223.4
• Runes + dead pet + minipet visible: 239.1
• Runes + dead pet + no mini equipped: 224.0
• Runes + dead pet + minipet hidden (unchecked in hero panel): 226.9

The very last result probably means the mini won’t benefit a player on a high population PvE map where miniatures are auto-hidden.

Tl;dr: minis should still work in PvE. Many karka and ettin died for these results. (I got the ettin slayer achievement filled out, yay.)

And it would be really nice if ArenaNet put practice dummies back in LA or Test Golems in PvE somewhere.

Rune of The Ranger + Miniature?

My notes with results for warrior and guardian. Scroll to end for Tl;dr.

TEST SETUP:
Two identical sets of Lv80 blue armor, one with runes, one without.
Traits zeroed out.
All trinkets and gear (2nd weapon set, underwater) unequipped.
No consumables, boons, banners, boosts, etc.
Equipped a Lv80 white greatsword. No sigil.
Ignored criticals; only counted normal damage attacks using auto-attack ‘1’.

TEST SETTING:
Kessex ettin heart north of Overlake Haven WP, to east of Viathan’s Arm lake

TEST SUBJECTS:
Lv19 and 20 ettins up the hill north from WP, above the rockslide event. (I should have stuck to Lv20 ettins but didn’t realize both were spawning in the same area until some time into the testing.)

WARRIOR:
I. No runes, no mini.
Average of two ettins: 81.1 dmg per hit.

II. Runed armor equipped, mini unequipped.
Average of two ettins: 79.6 dmg. per hit.

III. Runed armor equipped, account-bound mini equipped.
Average of 5 ettins: 81.3 dmg per hit.

No difference found.

GUARDIAN:

I. No runes, no mini.
Average of two ettins: 94.8 dmg per hit.

II. Runed armor equipped, mini unequipped.
Average of four(!) ettins: 94.2 damage per hit.

III. Runed armor equipped, account-bound mini equipped.
Average of five ettins: 106.2 damage per hit.

It appears Ranger runes work with minis on guardian.

OTHER THOUGHTS & SPECULATION:

The above results apply to PvE ONLY.

I tried warrior and guardian in PvP Mists against Heavy Golems and couldn’t get the #6 bonus to trigger with an account-bound mini equipped but perma-hidden by the game. A mini in the character’s inventory and activated the old way will be visible but does not appear to trigger the #6 bonus either. Guardian’s Shield of the Avenger also did not appear to trigger the #6 bonus against Mists Heavy Golems but I didn’t test extensively. (By the way, I didn’t test guardian SoA sans mini with Ranger runes in PvE yet.)

I also spent some time in Kessex with two identical sets of armor, one runed and one without, to confirm that the #6 bonus activates at all in PvE for rangers with their pets. As far as I can tell, it does. (There are always so many bugs, IMHO it’s worthwhile to make sure things work the way they’re said to work if one can spare the effort.) I have not yet confirmed that the #6 bonus is active for ranger pets in PvP Mists or when the pet is dead, however.

Given these results, I’m wondering if only professions with “living” summons (pets, minions, elementals, illusions, spirit weapons, Thieves’ Guild) in their native skill set will trigger Ranger runes’ #6 bonus with a mini in PvE. Is it that professions with only “object” type summons (warrior, engineer?) will NOT trigger the #6 bonus with a mini in PvE? I don’t play necro, mesmer or engineer so I can’t personally say with any surety that this is the case, but it strikes me as odd that these results show that #6 triggers in PvE with guardian and not warrior.

Tl;dr -

My initial results show that ranger rune bonus #6 cannot be triggered by account-bound minipets for guardians nor warriors against PvP Mists Heavy Golems, but minipets do work for guardians and not warriors in PvE. (See post below.) No comment on the relative efficacy of these runes versus alternatives. :P

I’m guessing that professions that have “living” summons in their native skill set will be able to trigger the “companion” bonus with a minipet, but professions that don’t, won’t. Also, it may be possible that the runes are broken in PvP, but any definitive answer on either will require more testing.

Spoons

If I recall correctly, after talking to the collector NPC in Grand Piazza, the spoon trophy acquired a value of 10s. It says it only has value as part of a collection and since I couldn’t sell it on the trading post (didn’t try mailing it to anyone), I vendored it to get my 10s back. Maybe I should have held on to it for a while longer and tried Mystic Forging it like Jedisa said.

I just checked the price on the gem store for these and it’s back to the original 25 stones for 600 gems now discounted to 525 gems, i.e. 12.5% off. Anet should change the wording up top from “30% Off!” to “Up to 30% Off!” as that’s a commonly understood wording to warn people that it’s not a flat 30% discount across the board.

Suggestion: Legendary Howler moon glow

Managed to find a Youtube video showcasing Howler from a week ago.

Apparently not only is the full moon night effect gone, but the full moon only stays for a fraction of a second after skill use and then blinks out awkwardly like someone slapped a switch. It should fade out gently, IMHO, like the rest of its effects do. Also, part of what made Howler special was that it had a glowing full moon at night.

The fact that its subtle details were lost while fixing the AC transmute bug and the eternal howl bug make me wonder if I should switch tracks and go for another legendary because there is never any guarantee that Arenanet notices these things. This is stuff people spend hundreds to thousands of gold on. Some may be entirely happy simply to have a legendary with a faint aura and footsteps but IMHO it’s a legendary. It should be perfectly polished.

Please bring back the night moon glow and either keep the moon lit while the weapon is out or fade it out after a second. Right now it feels like the animation is broken.

( If I sound highly critical, it’s because I was hoping to acquire Howler at some point as aside from these . . . quibbles . . . it is my favorite legendary. :P )

EDIT: added word “Suggestion” and clarified title.

I read a post from July 2014 that said the night moon on Howler is gone, that is, Howler looks the same day and night. (Don’t know if I should have raised the post from the dead, it’s a month old.) Is that true? Extremely disappointing if so.

Cliffside Fractal Hammer Bug [merged]

I know someone who runs mesmer in Fractals so she can make someone else carry the hammer while she runs up and portals them.

If the person carrying the hammer gets knocked off while in combat or something, though, I don’t know. Maybe Anet should change it so there’s always a copy of the hammer that respawns at set time intervals at the very bottom of the map where you first kill Archdiviner. :P

(Though in retrospect the time intervals may have to be spaced apart enough that it wouldn’t be worthwhile for most people to stand there and wait for multiple copies of the hammer to spawn so everyone in the party can have one.)

Great stories, Slither. I can relate to your Aunty Warrior and her Vengeance, because I’m forever mashing buttons when I’m downed too. I laughed so much.

Congrats on finally making it through to Dungeon Master! If it was ever well earned, you all earned it.

Ranger pet names still do not save !!!

aikatara—Juvenile jungle stalker is an amphibious pet. Try equipping the same as your underwater pet too. The name should stick, even if you change out your terrestrial pet. I’m not at home so I can’t double check, and yeah, it’s a crappy workaround, but give it a try.

P.S. you might need to have the pets in the equivalent slot, so jungle stalker in slot 1 both on land and underwater, for instance. The underwater one should also have the name you want. Checked, no need.
