Just back for a little bump, eh.
Still on the hunt though.
Server preference: [NA] Fort Aspenwood (Preferred, not required)
Play Type Preference: PvX, I have ~1600 sPvP matches played but have recently been tackling PvE content. Currently working on map completion.
Player Style: More of an in-between. I am a full-time student working towards a degree in business, so my play times definitely fluctuate. I’m currently on break until the 4th of January though, so I’ve been pretty heavy in the game.
Active Time: Also fluctuates, but between 2pm and 4am PST generally.
Voice preference: I am active in voice whenever I am participating with the guild and some times even when not.
Social preference: I’m currently in a guild that keeps their members at the cap. I’m not very fond of the over-crowded chat and superficial relationships that tend to be built from this environment. I’m mostly looking for a small-medium sized guild with an active core of members.
I’ve been playing MMOs since early EverQuest and have been sporadically active in them ever since. I have played most every MMO that has come out, and although there’s been a lot that have been completely unappealing to me, there have also been a handful that have captivated me. I’ve always been more of a PvP concentric player, but I also have played plenty of PvE. I was a beta pre-order player in GW2 and have been periodically active in the game ever since. I hope to find a tight-knit, relaxed, and like-minded community that I can be an active asset to. My main is Guardian and my secondary is Ranger. I have a level 80 Necro and Engineer as well. I can pretty effectively play any class, but I don’t really touch my Mesmer and I haven’t had much time with the Revenant other than a few levels after using the lvl 30 scroll.
Thanks,
Tom Chesterson.6905
Fort Aspenwood native.
I’m mainly focused on sPvP. Played GW2 since closed beta, have played PvP since Ultima Online. Looking to get back into the game after a break, need a good guild. Have voice chat. PvP stats attached, I’ve mostly pugged pre-matchmaking era tbh.
Math Club
Where math is an unrelated subject
About me:
I am an MMO veteran that has been playing MMOs since the early days of Velious EverQuest. I have played just about every MMO that has come out since then. I have always had a preference towards PvP and that hasn’t changed throughout the years at all. In the more recent years I have played MOBAs, reaching Diamond 3 on League of Legends prior to quitting.
I am now playing GW2 as of a few months ago. I played back in beta and pre-ordered GW2 as soon as you were able to on guildwars2.com. I mainly play sPvP myself, but I have two level 80s and plenty of PvE achievements as well.
About [MATH]:
I have recently created a new guild originating on Fort Aspenwood but accepting recruits from any server. Although I am primarily a sPvP player and play a wide range of roles and classes, Math Club will be for people interested in any and all content in the game. My intention with creating this guild is to find as many like-minded people as myself who are interested in being a part of a new community of mature players who are serious about succeeding but don’t want this game to be their job.
Club Requirements:
The only requirement is that you be an active and positive contribution to the mathematical community we are hoping to create.
Club Leadership:
I am currently looking for qualified members that are interested in helping me recruit and manage the club. If you think you would be a useful addition to our leadership then now is the time to apply.
How to join?:
Send me a PM, snail mail message, or post here and I’ll get you involved.
Mkay.
I’ve been recently trying so many different power builds on my ranger trying to find one that fits me. I’m mostly an sPvP player exclusively though.
I’ll try this build for a few matches and let you know how it works out. I find it interesting that you don’t take anything from MM, is S/D meant to be the main weapon set?
What’s the reason behind not going SotF?
i want to know if the keys will go on sale. they’re too expensive for merely “a chance” of dropping a skin.
I’ll tell you right now, no, there won’t be a key sale.
I’ve efficiently bunkered as:
Guardian
Warrior
Engineer
Ranger
Elementalist
Necromancer
If almost every class has a viable bunkering spec, then basically what you’re asking for is the inability to specialize your character into defensive statistics and traits. This is part of the game, there are counters to it and it can be beat. Please learn to counter aspects of the game that frustrate you instead of asking for the immediate removal.
All mesmers run Time Warp anyways.
If this happened to PvE player then ArenaNet would have gone into crisis mode. PvP players get to have their part of the game entirely unplayable for 3 kittening days and that’s just unfair. ANet is showing some serious favoritism.
Man, this really makes PvP unenjoyable. Fort Aspenwood’s mists are just packed full of people chatting because of this. :/
Appears to have a high chance of happening on my first death to respawn load screen in an sPvP match. Pretty much unplayable.
I leveled to 80 using condition damage and switched to power/prec after reaching 80 and power/prec is better overall. By the time you have put your conditions up on someone, I’ll have already killed them with direct damage. And that’s assuming you have flank and they don’t have condition removal. The one time condition damage can be better is when fighting strong mobs in PvE solo or in a small group, where you don’t hit any condition damage caps.
You’re wrong unless you’re playing PvE. Condition damage has significantly higher DPS and node control. Your traps weren’t nerfed and they’re one of the best node controllers in the game right now and you guys are complaining about the state of your class.
I agree there needs to be some variations available for building a Ranger because Shortbow is too powerful right now, but to actually complain that the shortbow nerf has put Rangers into an unplayable state is preposterous. Please at least evaluate what you say before you go spewing ignorance all over the place, guys. Rangers are in a good position as far as Shortbow goes, it needed a nerf on the attack speed because the ease of stacking bleeds was too efficient.
Let’s try and get some attention to our other trees instead of complaining that shortbow is a little slower auto attack, regardless of the fact that it’s still the easiest and one of the best condition builds in the game right now. Let’s try and stop being a bunch of cry babies and try to evaluate what we can change to make the class work. The nerf to shortbow was needed, let’s move on, it’s not getting reverted.

Downed state is ok. But in sPvP all professions need to have the same Skill Set

Necro dies because stability, block, two people stomping or blind.
Ele dies because no downed state survivability.
Warrior dies because stability, block, two people stomping or blind.
Guardian dies because stability, block, shadowstep/portal stomping or blind.
Mesmer dies because one person start stomping, then second person start stomping mesmer when the other guy is 50% finished, killing the mesmer when he comes out of stealth.
Thief survives unless guy who stomps has an instant teleport like steal, infiltrators signet or judges intervention.
Engineer dies because stability, block, two people stomping or blind.
Ranger dies because stability, block or blind.Problem 8v8 scrubs?
Different downed states add different strategies required to kill them, and it also affects target priority in matches. Killing thieves or mesmers first usually results in them getting ressed because they can just teleport to their guardian or get ressed while invis.
Quite honestly, you’re right. Stability along with quickness and so many other abilities guarantee a stomp 80%+ of the time. I run Stand Your Ground! on my Guard, Elixir S on my Engie, Mist Form on my Ele, Balanced Stance on my Warrior, and stealth on my Thief. Only class I can’t guarantee a down with is my condition ranger.
I just find that tournaments are so much chain rezzing that it’s a big reason why guardian is so popular right now. Either way, I really do believe that the downed states are pretty balanced and I wouldn’t care either way if they stayed the same. Definitely more important issues to get to involving PvP aside from downed states.

I firmly believe that there should only be 1 and 4 activated in sPvP. Fully open to better solutions but this seems to be the best one. Could only leave 1 on and I would be fine with it but I think that would be dumb in pugs.
I’m not saying we don’t need ladder, ofc we does – it’s goot for practicing and playing with equal skill lvl opponents but IMHO it’s not #1 priority
You kind of Smeagol on us there for a second.
Had this same suggestion, posted it on Reddit and got downvoted. Seems like a simple thing that isn’t an immediate need but would be nice to hear an answer on if this is a possibility in the future.
Please give us spvp gear progression. 10% difference from baseline-best.

As much as some of the decisions by Anet disappoint or frustrate me, commitment to the level playing field in PvP really makes me like them.
If you can win PvP before you even load into the instance, by equipping better gear or choosing an IWIN spec, then the game is failing. Players who want it to be that way clearly do not understand the joy to be had from a fair fight.
As it stands, GW2 gets it spot on for me on the gear front. A lot fo diversity, so experimentation is still fun, but no progression or balance effecting upgrades.
Now sort the class balance out (i.e. nerf mesmers) and we’ll be looking at truly fair combat.
You speak my thoughts.
Also looking for a consistent PvP guild that scrims with each other, etc.
Available.
Message Body length must at least be 15.
I’m on Fort Aspenwood and it seems fine to me.
Hi. Quick question if you don’t mind.
How do you counter people having retaliation (guardians, some engineers and mesmers) as a ranger ? I used sigils of nullification but I still take some hefty damages from it.
Run condition trap build and watch for the boon icon.
I’ve played about 1000 matches so far. Lots of experience, have voice chat.
Played stats:
420 matches as Ranger
76 matches as Thief
124 matches as Elementalist
115 matches as Guardian
103 matches as Warrior
72 matches as Engineer
I’m willing to play any of the above classes aside from Warrior. I’m comfortable in all the roles but I excel as Ranger and Guardian. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.
This happens to everyone and isn’t getting the attention it deserves imo. Biggest reason why Mesmers and Thieves are problematic right now.
“IRL” I could go to their house and beat the kitten out of whoever kitten with my money, tyvm
“IRL” You’d go to big boy jail.
Very important :: The drop rates for the rare permanent tools should be made public – this is gambling with real money and I’ve seen reports of players opening lots and lots of them (one man on Reddit opened over 400 – over $500) and I haven’t seen anybody getting the win. Are we expected to drop over $500 and still likely getting none? That’s absurrrridiculous.
I have spent real money buying gems, but not for this. Buying $500.00 worth of gems is to open boxes that cannot be resold is a waste.
The drops rates should not be made public and it didn’t matter if they were. Drop rate means nothing since he could still open 2,000 boxes and get 0 while someone opens one box and gets it.
The way of thinking should be to farm gold and buy gems with gold not cash. I understand the entertainment value of a game and spending money on entertainment. I have been addicted to a few things and probably am to this game as well so I can point out the fact that $500 for gems sounds like an addiction. Yes I have been there (in another game).
Sounds like someone with a large disposable income rather than an addiction. Either way, no need to pull the armchair psychologist.

- pets doing more dmg than players. too many Rangers content to sit behind their pet (which are markedly tougher than any other pets) and spamming crossfire – literally only hitting the one skill, while the pet does all the meaningful dmg. Crossfire will hit for 500ish and pet will hit for 2k – 4k. I check my combat log regularly against Rangers to see if they do anything different. They don’t. They may switch weapons, but the pet is still doing all the dog. Why aren’t they paper thin like Mesmer illusions if they’re going to be doing so much dmg?
This is literally the stupidest thing I’ve ever read. For one, Crossfire hits for 500ish if they’re full condition damage build. They’re doing damage from bleeds and poison. Secondly, if you run a pet that hits for 2k (not 4k, not even in full pet build do they hit for 4k) then it IS paper thin. Please, at least research or play the class before you start coming up with problematic balance issues.
Ranger pets are unreliable, squishy, buggy, unresponsive, and they’re the main component of the Ranger class. The Ranger pet SHOULD do a lot of damage if they’re squishy or full pet build, it’s a huge part of the class. Either way, you can’t even run pet build reliably because of how buggy and unresponsive the pets are.
Quickness is very strong, that much I agree with. However, after playing PvP for a while, you begin to know to just watch for quickness buff icon and then blow your dodges and kite and then they’ve wasted a long cooldown.
It’s very easy to counter is all I’m saying.
You can also use Lightning Flash while casting Churning Earth to move it’s explosion into the midst of a big team fight without them having time to dodge.
Just a troll, move along, nothing to see here.
It’s frankly shocking how underpowered we are. You see other classes landing single hits for 5k and the highest I get with all exalted gear is 3k.
Whatever. Arenanet clearly didn’t build this game to last.
Another reason to beware of “no subscription needed.” It just means they don’t give a kitten about polishing the product after release.
The game has only been out for a month and you’re already saying that they don’t care about polishing the product after release? Do you realize how ****ing dumb that makes you sound?
They’ve been fixing the stability issues with all their effort and have already released multiple patches with bug fixes and some balance changes. Don’t expect them to instantly change everything you want about your class. I have played 200+ PvP matches with my Ele and they’re in a good spot now. Sure, they need changes, every class does, that doesn’t mean the developers don’t care about the fact that they need changes.
God, these forums are just overflowing with whiners and children who haven’t played an MMO besides WoW.
Don’t be upset you can’t ez-mode 1 button HS anymore bro.
I’ve never used HS as my main damage dealer nor does my S/P build rely entirely on PW. Do you want to keep publicly grasping for straws in order to defend how incorrect you are in your assumption or wouldn’t you rather do the gracious thing and accept the fact that you know nothing about what you’re discussing?
One of the two options would certainly be more appealing to me, if I were you. That’s for sure. Honestly, you should count yourself lucky that people are even giving you the courtesy of responses, given the depth of your assumption and utterly appalling lack of respect.
Your class is just easy bro. You can bring personal insults into it all you want, it just justifies that you feel the same way with your aggressive defending.
I actually like Elementalist’s downed state after playing with it for a few days in tournaments. While you lack an interrupt like every other class, you have an immobilize that can be an immense help to your team and can also keep someone away from you long enough until you have mist form up. Mist form, in itself, is by far one of the best downed state abilities. Able to get up, invulnerable, and reset your downed state HP has saved my life countless times already.
Only gripe is perhaps the relatively long cooldown on your (2) ability considering it’s effects and the low damage on your (1) ability. Other than that, I was definitely on the majority’s side and saying that Elementalist’s downed state really sucks, because you lack a reliable interrupt and you’re the only class that does. On the contrary, my Ranger has an AOE interrupt but her (3) ability is complete trash and doesn’t work 50% of the time.
You’re in a decent spot as far as downed state goes Eles. Find something else to complain about.
That’s why it was the first ability to be nerfed.
A change that, incidentally, was a minor one. As I suggested the skill needed. Who are you trying to impress with your comments and boasts? Because it seems to me that the only one impressed with you is you. And because you don’t bother to read what people say to you but just make up things as you go. I said the skill needed minor changes. It got just that.
Am I supposed to be upset when you point out that what I said should happen is what happened?
Don’t be upset you can’t ez-mode 1 button HS anymore bro. You’ll find another ability to spam, because that’s the basis of the Thief. A no cooldown spammy class.
What compelled you to actually press “Post” after writing that abomination?
The same thing that compels you to make broad prescriptive claims while making a semi public fool of yourself in the process, I’d imagine.
The bottom line is that the skill needs minor changes at best and if you’re really taking it that badly from HS spam, the issue is probably less with the power of the skill but rather rests in your skill as a player.
That’s why it was the first ability to be nerfed.
GG Thieves.
Hi, I can’t evade a short range jump and attack. Plz nerf it, thief too stronk.
Meme? Check.
Poor grammar? Check.
Sarcastically attempting to satirically defend his broken class without contributing anything to the conversation? Check.
What compelled you to actually press “Post” after writing that abomination?
You don’t have to click a character/enemy to attack them, just press 1 or an attack skill icon and the game will auto-target.
For one, doesn’t work when you can’t see the target. For two, turned that “feature” off a long time ago and it shouldn’t be a requirement to deal with a latency issue.
Okay, we can go on and on about what’s overpowered about Thieves and how they do too much sheer damage for a stealthy. The truth of the matter is, there’s no point in balancing Thieves until the latency problems with stealth are fixed.
I’m sure you all know what I’m talking about if you’ve ever queued up for any PvP. Basically, there’s a 2-4 second window where the player has left stealth, is targetable if you can find them, but is still entirely invisible. This allows Thieves to get 3+ attacks off without any chance of repercussion unless their opponent happens to click where they are. This even affects tab targeting and there’s a window where it won’t even work correctly.
All I’m saying is, it’s a dis-service to Thieves to start talking about balance changes before stealth is working properly. I feel like once this problem is addressed, we’ll be able to much more accurately judge the class as a whole.
So what the problem essentially is, is that you refuse to move yourself away from a threat, Tom Chesterson.
I see where you’re coming from, I’d also say it’s stupid to lock down the thief who is wasting all his initiative and effectively wiping any chance of surviving that he has, by pressing 2 repeatedly.
Basically, you’re saying that you want to be able to tank the Heartseeker damage in melee, when running a glass cannon build (because heartseeker doesn’t kill anyone running toughness-vitality builds)
I don’t run heartseeker builds, because you won’t kill anyone competent.
Is that OP? Hm.Except I play a ranger with Natural Vigor, Lightning Reflexes, and Quick Shot and constantly use dodge against Thieves and they will still end up catching up to me. You’re grasping at straws with false information. There’s a reason every sPvP game has a minimum of 5 Thieves right now.

There is nothing more frustrating than the droves of people who play X class/character and excuse anything that may be imbalanced with, “CC them, that’s the counter”.
Okay, you’ve all been saying this since the beginning of MMO PvP and it’s not getting any more of a viable excuse. If a class is so powerful that the only means of dealing with their incredible damage and ability to stick to targets is through CC then there’s an inherent balance problem with the class. If you’re going to try and defend your flavor of the month, then at least do it efficiently.
The game is brand new, and balance obviously isn’t perfect. Heartseeker is obviously one of those things that is just too powerful. All the thieves in both of my guilds fully admit to it and have already stopped using it as a main damage dealer because they KNOW it will be nerfed to only being useful as an execution ability.
Enjoy it while you can though.
Yeah, at this point it’s almost always immobilizes that get me killed in PvP. Really think this should be changed.
I think they need to do away with the cast time on pet abilities. Especially with the AOE ones, this can make it impossible to get off on a target you’re aiming for in PvP.
The Ranger downed state ‘3’ ability is also bugged. You can call your pet to you and it will heal you at a ridiculously fast pace and no longer treat your hp like you’re drowning.
