Okay, two sides of the coin here. With the fury buff, we theoretically had a 20% damage boost to all rangers who used longbow and eagle eye…let’s say 20% of all rangers although I’m almost certain the actual number is higher. Yet nobody posted anything about ‘omg rangers are OP’. Is this not a sign that we are currently at least a tad underpowered?
This I am actually curious about. I can recall the situation with Elementalists going from not worth our time to overpowered without any actual changes made. One week was a very short time to test this bugged trait. My own experience (with Valkyrie gear, mind you. So I was getting the full benefit of fury.) was that fury did not make the Ranger overpowered. The duration at which it stacked, however, was.
I do take my own perspective with a grain of salt, though. For one, I like to think I do know how to play. I have always had a Ranger main character and managed to compensate for the class’ shortcomings by outplaying my opponents. So when in my hands the longbow became a lethal (yet risky) weapon, it was partially because it was played by a skilled player.
That is why I think maintaining Fury on the longbow was not too much.
I’ve always played a lb s/a full zerker, and my experience this week (and I agree, a week wasn’t long enough to fully test it out) was that in pve, permafury was okay…maybe a bit OP. In wuvwuv, I was finally on par with other classes. Previously I’d have to pop absolutely every single skill and time it well to have a decent chance at winning a 1v1. With the permafury I could actually go toe to toe with others and not have to pray that entangling vines would buy me a few more seconds.
Yes, bunker trap builds are the current meta in spvp, but the majority of people play pve and wvw, so what’s the point of one powerful build in a minor portion of the game when the profession lacks in all others.
On the other side of the coin, keeping fury on the eagle eye trait makes the trait beyond OP, so yes it needed to be removed. However, like I mentioned earlier, this mistake just goes to show how much love rangers need.
Anet needs to take a solid week or two and get the entire company to play ranger for that time, and make fixes accordingly. In fact, I think they should do that for every class. Put off living story content for a few months (and make them better) and just balance the classes.
I think anet is in cahoots with the slurm corporation!

Ranger!
Haha, jk. Nobody thinks that.
6 level 80s and 2 level 30s. No one has finished the personal story. My first character has done about 4 story things in Orr…so somewhat close. I did them cause I accidentally ran past them while doing temples and figured I might want a change of pace. Regretted it almost every time.
Let’s assume that’s true, it only emphasizes my point. If SBI was unfocused, disorganized, demoralized, etc. the fact that it took all week to pull Ebay out of third place says a lot about YB/Ebay.
We(YB) only really trying to started to push ebay into 2nd last night, though in retrospect, we should’ve started Wednesday night.
Sometime Wednesday, it was obvious to us, that we were going to be 1st no matter what. At that point, we could afford to shift resources into the secondary goal of ensuring you gained only 1 league point from this matchup, instead of 3.
SBI’s main error was not realizing on Wednesday, that they no longer had a chance at 1st, and needed to start fighting for 2nd. An example of your error, would be the huge SBI zerg I saw trying to hit Overlook, not 1 hours before EB ticked ahead of you. That was a complete waste of your limited time and manpower.
Actually our main error in the match was not running eb bls from day one, could have gotten a lot of points there keeping that paper.
Yes, I imagine a lot of us were surprised that you didn’t do just that. I certainly was.
In our match against IoJ, it felt like SBI never left their borderlands.
Well I’m sure much of it had to do with YB being the bigger threat and giving us good fights, which we have gotten from both YB and Ebay this week. SBI did not fight the ppt well at all this week, if that is what we were trying to focus on. Seems like most times we were like chickens running, with a few exceptions. I have learned a lot from this week and hope others on SBI have learned from this experience as well. Minus the trolling(as I’m not totally blameless) and other junk that was going on, it has been a good week regardless of what you read here. Lots of good fights all around and was pretty fun having the role reversed on us this week.
YB and Ebay good luck next week.
Agreed. I learned a tonne this week. I’ve never spent more time in havocs or fighting this many roaming thieves even when we were the top server.
As an SBI member from the very beginning, while I don’t think the YB+EB alliance , whether intentional initially or not, was a sign of good sportsmanship, I will acknowledge that it is somewhat fair play. Although anet’s code of conduct would convince you otherwise.
I think SBI should move on and just pass the word onto other servers. Perhaps these two will get a taste of their own medicine sooner rather than later.
Updated to Mavericks? Clear the GW2 folder!
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Treehugga.2398
I was pretty disappointed when I upgraded to Mavericks as everything seemed to run better except for GW2.
For reference, I’m running a 2012 rMBP and was getting 30-40fps in Mountain Lion at medium settings at 1400×900
After deleting the Guild Wars 2 folder under /Library/Application Support/ I can now run the game at 1680×1050 at max settings with 20-40fps (i decided to take a small hit for graphics sake!)
Warning: Deleting the GW2 folder in App Support will cause you to lose all your settings.

My bumps. My bumps. My lovely forum….lumps.
Trying to argue with the OP might be the biggest waste of time. Clearly he isn’t being objective and presents a very biased point of view.
Your definition of ranger is correct. Something akin to wilderness survivalist. Does this necessarily mean archer? No.
Does it necessarily mean daggers and axes? No.
Does it equate to a beast master? No.
It means nothing other than someone who is adept at living off the land in a non-agricultural way(although this can be debated).
That being said, the most likely class to wield a bow and wield it the best would be a ranger. The most likely class to have animal companions would be a ranger. If you are too blind to reach this conclusion, then you need to reassess your motives.
This bug still exists and has been there for at least two months, although this is the first incidence where I’ve heard of a warrior getting the problem.
Typically its rangers, thieves, and engineers that lose their 6 through 0 slots after the transformation. You can try to select skills, but they won’t work and just show a solid box.
I have to agree with OP. I played ranger because I really liked my hunter from WoW. I also have never seen a ranger commander! I was actually taken aback a few days ago when I saw my first engy commander. I own a commander hat, but that’s on my guardian.
I have to say that I will probably quit the game for a while. I hated my ranger main after getting to 80, and people kept posting for rangers to reroll…so I did. I rolled every class and played them until 80 and geared them up. I learned that engies, necros, and rangers needed love really badly. Anet brought us out of the grave with the pet buff update, then kitten the SB…and I get it…SB was probably what 95% of rangers have equipped and thus the class lacked variety. (In b4 some moron says ‘but I use this melee weapon set’ even though I left room in the statistic for your existence already)
But I feel like you guys could have made the change a lot more elegantly and given SB a bit more of a buff. Rangers getting hit by this nerf hammer kind of goes against your policy of ‘small buffs rather than nerfs’, so while this is a very sad day for rangers, I think this is a sadder day for Anet.
You guys have lost integrity in my eyes, and just cause we stopped complaining about our class didn’t mean we were happy with it. You did the equivalent of giving a dying child his dying wish, but you didn’t stop the kid from dying. You made the class bearable, and just cause we shut up after that doesn’t mean we were fixed.
I tried it once with a Moa for the heals, but eventually gave up on Adrien Beaky as I found my devourer Citizen Snips to be more useful for DPS in the burst moments.
HROUDA! You were the dev in southsun that stole my pet’s name! I’ll ‘kitten’ you!!!. <buys a white kitten>
I’m not colorblind, and I appreciate this change helped those players out. However, I really dislike the new rings. They’re harder for me to see, or maybe I just haven’t gotten used to them after 9 months of the old rings. I think this was a pretty drastic change as a result.
This deserves a bump for great justice.
Thank you so much! I was away from the game for four days and came back to find everything over and myself one achievement away from finishing!
Is it even possible to have a instance inside another instance?
we need to go deeper.
Look at this guild. Now look at you. Now back to the guild. Sadly you are not Unrepentant. But you could be if you filled out our application.
Alt+tab to me, now back to your game. Now back to me. While you’re reading this you probably just got swallowed by a giant jellyfish. I’m on a dolyak.
I’d like to add the greatest thing about this guild seeing as I’ve been in it for 3 years now. This is the best decision you will make. This isn’t just a guild, it is a social club with real people from all over the globe. We help each other out, share recipes, talk about personal stuff, funny stuff, and game in everything. Some of us stream, some cosplay, some of us always attend the big events of E3 or PAX. We have doctors, accountants, bartenders, authors, business people, dog walkers, programmers, and people from practically every walk of life.
The application process is difficult, but it is essentially assessing whether you can be with us FOREVER. We are a mix of laid back and hardcore. If i could provide a decent analogy, it would be like joining the cast of Cheers…where everybody knows your name or in the least, automatically assumes you’re a great person. The group is 3600 members, about 500 fairly active, and about 80 in GW2. There’s about a 60% chance of getting into the group, but if you’re friendly, engaging, and active for the week or two during your application, there is no reason you shouldn’t get in.
That being said, we are a group that cares more about substance than success. If you’re looking for a club for all games past, present, and future as well as just a safehaven for life in general, we would love to meet you. We understand that if you want something more hardcore, you will need to run with another guild from time to time. We are friends and we get that. Welcome to your new home.
The grind to my Dreamer bow is….wait for it…legend(ary).
You are aware that your 2 yr old Mac Book pro is not upto running the Mac Client which actually is NOT a native client, it is a Cider wrapper so it more grunt for that than just a 2 yr old Mac Book pro.
You seem to have an uninformed comment seeing as the requirements for mac clearly state my mid-2010 15" MBP should run “well” according to the specs listed on the site. I am aware this is a Cider wrapper and I said that I was NOT expecting it to run as well, but the disparity is alarming. Don’t you dare talk down to me like that.
And for all the follow-up comments, don’t assume I’m just trolling. I’ve tried every tweak provided by what was formerly a friendly mac community including the MT3D and video memory settings. Unless you’re about to invent something new, I’ve seen what is already available (for future reference tweaking the MT3D setting was the only one that worked noticeably for me, even though it only seemed to help with fps stabilization).
Take some advice from a physician—assume competency until proven otherwise.
Okay, I hate when people do this but I feel like I’ve been mislead and I’ve put up with more than should be necessary.
I bought GW2 in September on the promise of a Mac client, and yes…it’s not going to perform as well as the windows client, that’s understandable. However, in its current state 3 months later, there shouldn’t be any excuse.
I am raging because my 6 year old pc is outperforming my 2 year old 15" Macbook pro by a really significant amount. Both get 25fps, but on the pc all my settings are on highest with AA and high res textures(native sampling), while on Mac they are at their lowest(sub sampling).
I’m raging over the occasional crashes and inability to access the TP that isn’t present on the windows version, and have been issues since I bought the game. I’m also upset for the dozens of other bugs that people are experiencing.
And lastly, I’m raging because they haven’t replaced the late Mr. Robert Walters.
Bootcamp, here I come.
+1 for having them viewable. Making them account bound would take a pretty big toll on the economy and kitten a lot of people off. We already saw what happened when they lowered the drop rates on dyes, however I think everyone was pleased with the accidentall higher drop rate around the Halloween event.
I think in addition to having unlocked dyes viewable, the drop rate might be increased a bit. I find myself wanting dyes, but the market for dye is too profitable right now to say no. Maybe up the chance of getting rare dyes too.
To all you creationists, here is proof of the first fish to walk on land.
Seriously though, now I want a Juvenile Lungfish. Please!
Deer will be the next profession, truth.
I already have a lvl 80 human deer with an antler/dagger zerker build.
My milkshake brings all the dolyaks to the yard.
Just a random thing you guys can try, seeing as I have the same OS and hardware as some of you, but don’t have any problems.
See if you have any audio plugins installed such as Hear. It created conflicts with blizzard games a few months ago, and what some of you are describing seems like a third party software issue. If not, I’ll keep brainstorming.
P.s. please update the wrapper! Playing in a Parallels desktop VM yields almost the same performance, and looks better too.
This was a beef of mine after getting my first pet. I wanted to grow my pets and wanted them to grow with me. I miss being a WoW hunter for pet levelling and progression, but also for the unique looking pets., but I’m poor and love everything else about GW2 more.
I’m one of the dying breed of rangers that are speccing pure dps, and it takes micromanaging my pet and spamming every weapon skill just to not be the lowest dps member in any given group.
I figured I should try other professions to compare damage, so I specced glass cannon warrior, ele, and mesmer. Ele and Mesmer are still lvl 10, but my warrior at lvl 61 does more damage(in pure numbers) in blue/green gear than my 80 ranger in full exotics. Also has more survivability.
Only the mesmer seems as weak in terms of damage, but survivability is even better than my glass cannon warrior.
Of course, all this is subjective.
Though I have to say… 100G is incredibly hard to farm. Unless you’re referring to hiring some Chinese workers to do it for you. Otherwise, you did not farm that on your own. Let’s be honest here….
This depends on what you do and how you play. I make around 1g an hour and I’m a med student, so I’m casual except immediately after exams. I get in about an hour every day, which is enough for a dungeon or two short ones. Sell everything and make ectos and you can surpass 1g an hour by running AC or CoF for the first time that day. I started the game mid-September and I’m sitting on 75g net and about 30g worth of ectos on the tp.
Agreed with many before me. Voting would be pointless as even in the best scenario possible, it would be 2/3 leadership or skill and 1/3 social factors.
I do like the idea though, and perhaps a rating system could be developed based on squad survivability, engagement type, and engagement outcome, but only when the commander tag is active.
This might already be possible, but commanders would have to be able to kick people out of squads to prevent trolling, and I don’t think it would affect their true rating. Even if you faked the rating by choosing the best players, if people can’t get into your squad, they probably should be weary about following you.
Additionally, the rating system shouldn’t have any achievement or benefit to it, other than showing off. I think this rating system would be fairly accurate of a commander’s lead, and can even be used strategically when planning coordinated attacks among commanders. Better rating would have better outcomes, give them the more difficult targets.
I think I agree with a at least some element of what everyone is putting in. WvW is fun, and in an ideal world it should speak for itself.
However, it is getting stale as many have stated. I feel that incentives are necessary. In fact, game theory (and games) are centered around reinforcement like ‘carrots on sticks’. Games with fewer reinforcements are generally more casual, and I don’t think WvW should end up with just a casual player base. I play on a Mac and have enough casual games to last me until GW4 comes out.
A lot of other really desired changes were noted by some of you too. Removing creatures, increasing variation, and improving performance. It seems the latter is currently being focused on with culling, though right now it doesn’t seem like its a satisfying solution.
Most of these really good points including the following were mentioned by Terrahero—removing jumping puzzles. In my experience, they have detracted from WvW and have become a farming experience with the occasional thief nuisance that needs to be dispatched. Jumping puzzles can be replaced with a daily, and the rewards can be the same except the players will have to participate. Yeah this solution is just another carrot on a stick, but it is better for the maintenance of WvW.
I’d also like to throw in the fact that we need a hearthstone/porting system. Im pretty sure the devs are aware that a sizable chunk of players are using WvW as a free portal to LA., and removing our ability to do this is not going to end well. However, the 5 or so people that take up space in WvW because of travel are still 5 players who aren’t contributing and taking up spots. Additionally, players who haven’t figured this out are wasting their hard earned cash while a large number of us are getting it free.
And just to clarify for you naysayers for incentives and those with a grind-phobia:
Anyone who has taken an intro psychology class should not be arguing against ‘carrot on a stick’ mechanics. All life and behavior is based on it in some form. And yes, everything is essentially a grind, but as the devs have mentioned…it’s not a grind if you’re having fun doing it. It’s still a grind in a loose sense, just like a job can be really really enjoyable, but it’s still a job at the end of the day.
+1 to rifle rangers! I would totally go rifle
WvW is fun. I don’t need any other reason.
The mix of pvp and pve, playing as team with no strings attached, good balance between simplicity of game mechanics and variety appeal to me. I love that there is no vertical progression.
The loot gives back enough money to pay for repairs, upgrades and sieges. Karma, exp, server bonuses, badges don’t interest me as I am already level 80 and with good enough gear.
As for future rewards… I would like to see some ranks to show off, achievements of yours and your guild to compare against others, some publicity for your guild for going that extra mile towards victory… that kinds of thing.
I agree. WvW is fun, but most people can agree that it is not an effective use of time. Even walking up and down paths in Frostgorge killing trash will yield more loot, and sometimes more karma. I’m not even calling for WvW to be as effective as running dungeons, but currently I think most people would rather be participating in more rewarding ventures. Perhaps make it even slightly more rewarding like they did with sPvP achievements, so we can get people playing a little more. Medals can be made to be less of a grind and traded in for t6 mats, or cores!
And achievements and military ranks would be awesome. Maybe include some titles and cosmetic rewards that are more reasonable to attain than with the current drop rate of medals.
Leveling in WvW is insanely fast….not sure what you are referring to there.
I do agree with all the other points.
I guess it really depends. When there isn’t a zerg to follow, I find it’s pretty slow. If my server is crushing, it’s really fast.
I’m waiting for my Norn Rabbit Or Chicken form. All the other ones are useless, but have you seen the bunny in fotm? Or the chickens in Orr? They are deadly. I’m now conditioned to hesitate whenever I see a chicken or bunny with a red name.
Also…the dawning of the age of the antler is among us. Repent!
WvWvW started off as a bit of a novelty unique to GW2, but is currently becoming somewhat lackluster and unappealing to many.
Disclaimer: This wall of text tries to illustrate the current reasons for playing and not playing that I’ve ascertained as a non-hardcore, but non-casual player with several hundred hours of WvW under my belt. Additionally, the bias here is that I belong to a tier 1 server and the following statements may not apply to all servers.
Something that seems to be happening more on my current server(SBI) and confirmed among several guilds on there is that fewer people are taking interest in WvWvW. Additionally, SBI as a whole tends to ignore WvW until just before the new matchups just so we can stay in tier 1.
Why do we play WvW?
-Levelling characters(slow…many were told you could level at the same rate as PvE)
-Karma grinding. (some debate if this or Orr grinding is more effective)
-Gift of Battle(really low rate of medal drops makes this a grind that you do once and never bother trying to get medals again)
-To do the jumping puzzle daily
-Server pride(keeps us playing at the bare minimum)
-Server bonuses?(the rewards are fairly minor and considering it would take a large guild several hours to gain one tier of rewards, this is not an effective incentive)
What needs to be done?
-Make levelling solely via WvW viable
-Make medal drops higher so attaining medal-bought gear is worthwhile
-Create an incentive to participate. WvW weekly? Rewards 1g or 100 medals? Or a WvW daily that rewards less…maybe a siege weapon too. Yeah, the jumping puzzles basically provide this, which is why a lot of people jump into WvW just to do the daily JP and don’t actually participate.
Side note:
As all of you are aware, low level players are at a noticeable disadvantage in WvW despite being ‘sidekicked’ up to 80. This also makes WvW a lot less attractive to players below 80.
TLDR:
WvW is starting to become less attractive to players, is being played less at least in higher tiers. Requires incentives to maintain or increase its player base.
15char
Not sure why nobody has responded to this. This is a very legitimate concern, but it might be better in the dungeons forum. I see two ways of going about this:
1) have pets automatically mirror their masters’ agony resistance(I prefer this)
2) have pets immune to agony(easier to implement?)
This seems like a small issue, but it is basically the longstanding AOE resist problem that destroys our pets in another form.
Warrior. Signet warriors are ridiculous dps glass cannons, and at lvl 60 I’m doing more damage than my exotic geared “glass cannon” power/prec ranger. Unfortunately the survivability is only slightly better. Whatever, I wanted a glass cannon and ranger was not it.
Just roll a profession that isn’t crap. I wanted a dps class, after hundreds of hours on ranger I rolled a warrior…face roll everything! Seriously…those pissed about our dps should roll warrior for pve, or thief for pvp, just until they fix it.
