Soulbound... why?

Treize.7026

I see no problem with soulbound items…it’s nothing new to MMOs, this is probably something only people with no experience in the genre would complain about.

It’s good because other games have done it is pretty much the weakest argument you could have made on this.

Soulbound items like harvesting items and such are just senseless, but I don’t necessarily have a problem with other items that are soulbound. Comparing games, DAoC didn’t have soulbinding, but items would decay and break over time. Without that mechanic, if items aren’t Soulbound, when someone crafts X weapon, it remains in the world forever, that’s one less of X weapon that will ever need to be made. Same with rare items, once one is found, thats one item that never leaves the system.

When one person needs this item, they buy it, they sell when done, to the point where every new instance of this weapon introduced to the system lowers the value of the ones already there until they’re eventually worthless.

So fine, remove soulbinding, but there needs to be some form of decay implemented, or it would simply destroy the economy in the long term (moreso than it is).

One Word - Endgame

Honestly, my problem with “end game” isn’t that I’m not getting better gear than anyone else, I don’t really care about that… it’s that I feel there is too little reward for doing stuff once you hit 80.

You have the legendary grind, which is horrendous, but I’m ok with that. The problem is if I play for 8 hours, I want to feel like I’ve made 8 hours progress. There are no more goals to attain once you hit 80 other than to acquire a legendary weapon.

What I think would be great is the addition of a wide range of cosmetic items that drop, including weapon skins and the like. Housing items and such when that is implemented (and this very well may be the answer). You look at a game like EQ2 and there are people that login solely to mess with designing their house. Something like that is acceptable endgame for me at least, without needing to be overpowering gear.

Is Joining Multiple Guilds an Accepted Feature by Guilds?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Treize.7026

I’m of two minds on this, I’m the leader of a smallish guild of pretty tight knit people, I’d be a little put off by someone wanting to join another guild as well. IMO a guild is not meant to be a place where you “get stuff” it’s meant to be a social group of like-minded individuals who get on well together. It’s what its members make it, so if people want to join another guild that does X,Y, and Z, I wonder why they couldn’t be bothered to try to organize X, Y and Z in this guild…

On the other hand, it is a cool feature for a player. If you really like two groups of people, it’s cool that you can effectively join with both. It’s also nice to have this as a de-facto “alliance” since for some reason devs of most MMOs seem reluctant to implement this feature.

So yeah, I kinda conflict with myself on this. We have one member in our guild that reps another guild primarily; but in this case it’s due to the fact that he was the guild leader of a GW1 guild, which the rest of us didn’t play. We knew going in that this was going to be the case, and I don’t have a problem with this at all. The multi-guild thing is actually pretty nice in instances like that.

I guess at the end of the day it opens more options, and options are good. It’s up to players and guild leaders to decide how/if these options are going to be acceptable to them.

Why are all guides on youtube?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Treize.7026

I agree with OP 100%. I first really noticed this trend in TSW (ugh), where written guides are few and far between, but YouTube videos, complete with horrid music and droning, uninteresting “authors” were abundant.

I would have to guess it’s one or more of a few things… the author doesn’t write well, feels authoritative when recording one of these videos, or is just doing it because for some inexplicable reason, that’s what people do now. I don’t know.

To me it’s as baffling as the fact that there are people who attribute superstar-status to someone who just sits around playing video games all day and streams it to them.

I’m not that old, but it’s sure as hell making me feel that way.

I can almost sympathize, but as others have stated, it’s one item, and the bid-ask spread is obviously fairly large.

I am confused when someone does this with an item that is selling rapidly at the current lowest sell price, but if it’s an item that tends to not move very quickly, it’s generally not a big deal.

Keys for Black Lion Chests

To be honest, it feels like drop rates for everything have been lowered across the board. Either that or my luck went from “average” to absolutely terrible. I get fewer badges in PvP for doing the same things, 0 keys, very few yellows on random mobs around Orr, nothing higher than green from event chests (well, this has always been that way), put 4 items into mystic forge, get 1 of them back, or their equivalent…

I had significantly more success doing all of these things (except the chest) up until recently. I don’t know if drop rates are something they micromanage when stuff starts flooding the market or what, but at any rate, it’s getting old. I don’t need freebies, but one or two lucky breaks would be nice now and then.

As it is, the only profitable thing for me to do is flip items on the TP. At least for time invested, I feel like i’m getting some benefit.

I like the game but games generally have some sort of reward mechanism in place.

When the only point of trash mobs is to needlessly delay you, when trash provides twice the challenge but very little reward, when the only mechanic most bosses have is “make sure you dodge… NOW, btw I have 1 billion hp lol” I can’t say I really disagree with skipping as much as possible using clever mechanics.

The trash fights and most of the boss fights are completely uninteresting, and often unnecessarily frustrating and drawn out.

If you have the item in your inventory, another easy way is to take off three times the listing fee.

Personally, I tend to just type in x * 0.85 or x / 0.85 into Google (where x is the appropriate number).

Yeah, that tpcalc site looks far more cumbersome than multiplying or dividing by 0.85, either on Google or on my phone, depending on which is handier at the moment.

Heck, for anyone used to figuring out 15% tips at restaurants, it’s not even that hard to do in your head.

If filling out literally 3 fields is cumbersome, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Edit: nevermind, I guess it is compared to typing it into google. But it also has other benefits.

Read my post. There is a difference between copyright and trademark. And you better care what copyright.gov says because that is the US Copyright Office. I’m not sure what a better source for copyright law would be.

Names are not copyrightable. That’s right from the source. Names are trademarkable. Every name you mentioned in your post is a trademark, not a copyright.

Two related but fundamentally different rights, with different protections attached. Trademarks only protect products and services in the same field. You can’t have two tech companies by the name of “Apple”, but you could have a tech company and a grocery store with that name.

OH REALLY?!

Maybe that’s why I said they were TRADEMARKable and didn’t mention copyright in my post. Thanks for the correction. What would I do without your overwhelming intellect to guide me?

Yeah, it’s not like Apple would sue the polish grocery “a.pl”
They’re not under the same product field, it’s the LAW!
Oh… http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/11/apl-apple-grocery-store_n_1873264.html

First of all, just because Apple sues someone doesn’t make whatever their target did automatically illegal. I’m not sure how the legal system works in your country, but we’re not quite to the point where companies can dictate their own laws in the US. (Ok stop laughing).

Anyway another key point in that article is this wasn’t just some mom and pop corner store, it’s an online business. I’m no expert on copyright law, but that combined with their logo which is an obvious imitation seems to make this issue a little more complicated than you are implying.

I get what you’re saying, but since the bosses in explorables tend to have massive amounts of needless HP, it shouldn’t be much more work than creating a method for people to join a dungeon with 50% less HP/25% less damage (or so, I’m just saying numbers) on creatures across the board but the same mechanics. I’m saying this not at all knowing what that would take admittedly, but since their approximation of difficulty is essentially more damage/more HP period, it’s not like they’d need to create an entirely new dungeon from scratch.

Ideally a difficulty slider would be perfect, with rewards given, and difficulty scaling at a 1:1 ratio.

In other words – “Only awesome people need an end game group content, go be scrubs elsewhere” ?

Sorry to say, there needs to be more options for groups who aren’t as awesome as you obviously are, and I say this as part of a group that has been able to clear the explorables we’ve done so far.

yandere.9176 has it best so far, there needs to be an intermediate difficulty between (a much toned down) story mode, and the current explorable. Have it reward half what full-on explorable mode gives, then you can get your shinies faster, and other people have something to occupy their time when grouping.

I get that that means that you’re going to have “bads” walking around in the same stuff you’ve got, but to be honest, no one is really impressed with what you’re wearing anyway, so I don’t really see that being an issue.

You said all your equipped gear is there right? Why do you need to buy more to continue? If you need cash, port to one of the WvW battlegrounds and harvest, or just do the events, collect like 3s, leave, then port somewhere you should be at your level.

Or make an alt and just play it. Last time I went broke, (due to crafting), I switched to an alt, cleared a zone and had nearly a gold at the end of it. It’s really not that hard to make money in this game if you just… you know, play the game.

Not my first time, won’t be my last. Also saying something happens ‘every time’ is pretty ignorant… Sure 10 vs 100; 100 will win, but we have consistently wiped larger raids than us. Why, because we have quality players working together, and they have mindless numbers attacking every random person they see closest to them….

The point being, you wipe larger raids than you, that’s great, you guys are probably really good. Over time and over the course of that matchup though, are you able to be everywhere defending every attack on every objective?

When we fought Anvil Rock and whomever the other server was we completely wiped the floor with both servers (I’m on Yak’s Bend). You know why we won? Not because we were better, but because we were everywhere. The players from Anvil that I encountered were no better/worse than us, they were just less numerous. Eventually it gets to the point where it’s just not possible to put the fires out fast enough. The boost in rating our server got would imply that we were better right? Even when the last few days of that matchup we were just racking up points doing effectively PvE as there was no one else out there?

Its Quality and not just Quantity, please don’t disrespect the hard work and coordination that the top guilds have put in, as well as the militia.

As this is obviously your first time playing a game with large scale PvP, I’ll go ahead and clue you in that quantity trumps quality every time in these games. A well organized group of players is going to do very well against a zerg, but they’re still going to get squashed, it will just take longer especially in this game. If you have 100 people attacking a keep defended by 10 of the best players of all time, that’s still, at max 10 siege weapons firing out, something needs repaired? that’s one less siege weapon. Meanwhile the enemy horde is churning out siege weapons.

Once the door’s down they can quite literally ignore the defenders, squash the lord and then finish off any players that happen to be sticking around. I’ve seen it.

So while I’m not saying the top servers are massive groups of unskilled zerglings, I am saying that servers WITH massive groups of unskilled zerglings are far more likely to move up the ladder than small servers with highly organized/skilled guilds will.

I’m 100% for ranking GUILDS on points earned, because that actually makes sense, and wouldn’t be inherently tied to a critical game mechanic meant to offset the impact of imbalanced servers… but thinking that the server rankings are a scoreboard, and believing that positioning on that board implies anything other than WvW participation is just silly.

Its a competition, so we need scores. Game over.

We get scores, you can see them if you hit “B”. Why do you think they pair us with people close to us in rankings? Just curious.

This isn’t sPvP where both teams are always going to be equal, you will always have servers with massively more population than others. Effectively what you’re saying is that those servers that score highly on the charts due to population do so because they’re better than everyone else?

Obviously everyone seems to have missed the point. Server pride is great, but the mechanism was evidently put in place to keep each side balanced and playing with other servers that have similar WvW participation. See games like Warhammer if you want to see what happens to servers when they’re permanently paired with another server that completely trashes them regularly. It’s not fun at all for anyone concerned.

My thoughts are that the competition should be limited to the 3 server pairing that you’re currently involved with. Then you don’t have situations where #3 focuses on #2 alone in order to move up the rankings, instead #3 and #2 might join forces and go after #1.

The fact is for some reason, “Modern” MMO gamers don’t seem to be content with knowing they’re good, and building a reputation, they need to have that kittened number which tells them so, only in this case that number also determines what other servers we get paired with.

If it was an arbitrary number unrelated to the server pairings, then fine, no problems at all here, but it’s not. As for the “Obviously he must not want competition” aspect… I LOVE competition and WvW in general, I have since DAoC, but what good do those numbers serve other than to discourage people transferring to low ranked servers, and encouraging them to pile onto high ones? People look at that number and say “Hey, that must be a terrible server, they’re really low ranked” when in reality they could be a great server with really good organization, but lower population. Maybe the other servers they were paired with zerged the hell out of them, hurting their score. In this case they’re better off where they are, so they can have fair fights with similar servers instead of the constant demoralization of losing to hordes of mindless drones swarming the entire map every night.

But then again I play for fun, not to see an arbitrary number go up, so I guess that’s just me.

Honestly, pre-release I had imagined that the intent was to pair servers with other servers with a similar amount of WvW activity. Seemed like a great idea to ensure that WvW was fun for all 3 sides in any given pairing…

Since the “scores” have been posted, people have been turning it into another competition to reach the top without any understanding whatsoever what that ranking actually means. I saw someone in /team the day before the last rematch (Yak’s Bend, we were in 3rd) saying how we needed to beat on number 2 exclusively so we could move up in rank, since we obviously couldn’t deal with #1.

They clearly don’t realize that we were matched with #1 NOW… moving up in rank is going to make that worse, as we’ll possibly be paired with a server that would be even more difficult. I said as much and was asked “well, why do you PvP then if not to compete?”

My understanding was that WvW was meant as a competition between 3 servers, not between my server and every server on that list at all times. I also thought that pairing servers was intended to provide those 3 servers with a relatively level playing field so that everyone can have fun, and not have to deal with tremendously pitched battles permanently.

The fact is, you have a subset (and from my experience it’s not an insignificant number) of the population that is only concerned about stats, be it their stats, their server’s stats, whatever. If you show them a number, they feel they need to do 1 better, always. In every other aspect of this game that’s fine, but not in WvW ranking if that’s meant as a balancing method.

This leads to people server-hopping, not showing up for WvW, forming unnecessary alliances simply to knock a server down the rankings, or focusing efforts on the easier opponent rather than the larger one, as the easier one is an easier move up the ladder.

Either remove that display, or just acknowledge it’s another form of competition and be done with it.

Treize.7026

I was originally 100% in agreement with the OP, but the reality is you have to change the way you think about these dungeons. Just from my experience, take this for what you will…

When our guild first attempted these, we played just like every other game we had played before, the “tank” just taking it on the chin, and the DPS standing off unleashing their fury. We died so many times we never wanted to set foot in a dungeon again.

Once we realized that these fights are more about what you’re doing for your group rather than what you’re doing personally, things got a lot easier. I can best speak for a mesmer, but instead of just spamming duelists, I now use berserkers for the cripple effect, and wardens to lock down ranged. I use Feedback, null field, and time warp for reflect shield, condition cure, and quickness buff instead of stacking mantras for the bonus damage.

When crap gets on another groupmate, instead of just letting them deal with it or hoping the healer saves them, I knock it away with my greatsword or immobilize it with my sword. When someone’s downed I knock crap away and rez them with an automatic feedback effect to reflect ranged.

In other words, I’m dealing damage, but I’m providing far more utility by actually watching the entire fight and assisting where needed.

Another thing that helped was the realization that we are also responsible for our own survival. The best heal you have is your self heal. No healer is going to be saving you, nor should they if you just let yourself get torn up… dodging as well as moving and LOSing enemies is critical. If something is on you and you can take it, take it, but if not, you need to avoid the damage however you can.

“Tanking” is not just standing next to a boss and letting it wail on you while others heal you, you need to use your abilities intelligently to avoid the big hits, even if you can take the little ones. A good way to test this is the colossus in diessa plateau. I was able to melee it for the majority of the fight (until I got stupid) by using my blocks and dodges at appropriate times on my guardian. If you’ve done that encounter, you know that either you avoid getting hit, or you instantly die, so that’s a good place to practice I think.

You can afford to go into a dungeon with set roles and generally you wouldn’t need to adjust those more than little as the dungeon goes on, but you need to have those roles established in advance.

My wife plays a guardian, so she’s mostly “healy” but also uses her wards to stop things coming at us, and she’s usually the one that focuses on scooping up downed players. I can do DPS on the mesmer, but I focus on supporting the group when there’s ranged attackers specifically, the rest of the dungeon I apply as much condition damage as I can.

TL;DR: don’t get discouraged, I was in the same boat. There are still some explorables that we’ve done that are absolutely ridiculous, but when we first did AC story mode and got our kitten handed to us, we thought it was insurmountable, but after trying it again looking at it differently, we found that with a little planning they can actually be quite fun.

So our group has done the Ghost Eater path twice, the first time Kholer kicked our kitten until I realized I could reflect his scorpion attack thing, even then sometimes Feedback isn’t up so people die, but whatever, we beat him. We tore through the rest of that path. The first time with high levels, including 3 level 80s and a couple in the late 50s/60s. Second time, 3 80s, a 37 and a 43 or so… anyway it went well.

Then we get to this path, the Colossus.

Kholer went as usual, but the graveling part… WTF. Seriously, if anyone has any tips, please share. Our melee guys couldn’t hit the kitten things, my berserker was missing more often than not, my warden was doing absolutely nothing. I respecced full DPS (for mesmer, such that it is), which didn’t improve anything, and then switched to my Warrior (level 40), but … see issue 1… melee can’t really hit the things. Even with his bow, I was getting obstructed more often than not.

Is the key to have every class capable of a spammable high damage ranged AE? I’ve read that this is bugged, it obviously is, but I’ve also seen people specifically requesting runs down the 2 paths that have graveling-burrow events, so someone’s doing something.

If it were working as intended we should have been fine, the warrior is doing good dps, we had an engy dropping grenades, and at the very least I could have dropped a warden and zerker on the things and maybe had them actually hit.

We had our ranger switch to ele for this, and that didn’t help either.

Group makeup was support guardian, support(then DPS) mesmer, ranger, warrior, engy. I think on any given burrow, maybe 2 of us were consistantly hitting them.

On one or two of them we burned them down in seconds, on others, it took forever due to this.

Edit: “Kicked our kitten”, I love this filter, lol.

You CLEARLY did not read the thing in its entirety. Go back and reread it.

First, the money and items bought with it and anything else derived from them are untradeable until the loan has been paid back, completely nullifying points 3 and 4.

I guess I’m not getting this then. They are taking out a loan for gold that they can’t transfer to anyone else until the loan is paid back? What are they going to do with this gold then, build a house out of it? I would assume people would be getting these loans in order to buy stuff from the TP, not just vendor items.

Where do you think money spent on the TP goes anyway, and what stops me using the TP as a means to launder loaned money from a throwaway account? Do we flag each gold piece so that it gets nabbed no matter whose hands its in?

Also comparing the mentality of a player to how people behave in real life is laughable. It’s fairly common knowledge that people don’t behave the same online as in real life, by any stretch.

Soulbound

All are failed systems which prevent users from enjoying the game. Not just this game but any game that implements it. If I ever had the luxury of designing a game it would most definitely NOT include these aggravating “features”.

I can see the utility of this system as far as crafting. If everything was tradeable, any suit of armor created would stay in the system forever, and that’s one less armor suit that will need made. Eventually over the life of the game, there will be piles of the things on the TP selling for pennies from people 10 steps removed from the person who actually spent the time and money creating them.

Now, removing soulbind/bind-on-whatever and adding an item decay system, that would work I think (coupled with a large reduction in the cost to make items).

Treize.7026

Disagree. Two “faction” systems have NEVER worked.

I disagree with this logic. Just because 2 faction has its issues doesn’t make 3 faction actually work.

The issue here is this: 3 faction isn’t working, period. We see it, it is in the here and now. It works in some games like Planetside because there is no score. The goal is the fight you don’t have currency and keep claiming and upgrading you just fight. That isn’t the case here, here there are scores, ladders, new matches, rankings, currency, upgrades, etc.

It is time to look at this and admit that 3 faction isn’t working either. As such it is clear that the issue is something else. Having 3 factions just makes it harder to determine what that something else is.

3 factions is perfectly fine the way it is. It worked for DAoC PvP for quite a while, and 2 faction worked not at all in any game I’ve played that has attempted it.

I think the problem is that the matchups aren’t long enough for people to really bother with alliances. Unless the need is identified early on, generally by the time a problem arises the servers are rematched shortly thereafter.

What we DO get out of this system now is 2 losing sides are basically splitting the efforts of the bigger side… while not an alliance per se, it still helps each side have a more balanced fight. Kinda goes off the rails if the little guys start fighting each other, but that’s how it works.

On Yak’s bend we’re currently in second place (behind first by quite a bit) and almost tied with 3rd place. I do WvW nightly, and we’re almost exclusively attacking the big guy. Since the other side is doing just as well as we are, and I’m not seeing them very often, I can only assume they’re doing the same.

3 sides provides more challenge for an otherwise overpowering server, and splits their forces so the less active servers have a chance. Otherwise you have 1000 on team A, and an ever shrinking number on team B as they’re just pounded into dust, until eventually they stop showing.

I’m talking about something that to a normal person, plays like they’d expect it would (e.g. I need x amount of crafting ingredients, these dudes drop them, I’ll go kill y number of them until I have enough).

The game has enough going for it for me that I can live with it for now, but it’s just a bit counter-intuitive that every time we’re presented a grind, and that’s not a bad thing in an MMO, they put roadblocks up to make it more difficult.

I really enjoy the variety of content in this game, but sometimes I want to just sit and do some low stress farming while I’m watching TV, talking with my wife, whatever. This is the first game I’ve played where that’s just not possible. I have to monitor my drops and then migrate to the next place if they start falling off, usually one migration is enough for me before I get tired of worrying about it and I play an alt.

It’s one thing to say “You have to think differently to do things in this game!”, and another thing entirely to say “If you do things differently than we think you should, we’ll fix that!”

That said, there’s still tons that I enjoy doing, they just need to tone the aforementioned down a bit.

Are Mesmers supposed to run a lot in fights?

Yeah it was around 30 or so that I hit my stride I think. Basically what I do against mobs is use GS, then circle strafe around popping berserkers (for cripple) on them, knocking them back if they stagger too close to me, using dodge when needed. Works great on melee, just have to make sure you dont wander into nearby mobs, especially in Orr…

It’s not even very well telegraphed, in comparison to most other classes elites.

BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL! Isn’t well telegraphed enough? Do you want it to send you an in-game mail 30 seconds before it hits?

Considering that acquiring that book implies absolutely nothing regarding your skill as a commander, nor your motives in getting the book in the first place, criticism is going to happen.

In my profession, I’m going to have absolutely 0 respect for a supervisor who simply bought the position than someone who earned it.

The problem is in GW2 it can’t be earned, it can ONLY be bought… so my suggestion is to weather the abuse without blocking ANYONE, continue to do what you do, and eventually people will respect you because of it.

Ideally it would have probably been best to get the fame and respect first and the commander book second… but you did it the other way around apparently, and this is a side effect.

You guys are a bunch of whiny kids.

Submit bug reports, they’ll get to it in time. “Proof that they don’t care” is up there as one of the most childish things said I’ve read so far. ANet has a ton of stuff that they’re working through.

If you’re so mad at them, go play other games.

It’s quite obvious that you are benifitting from exploits, and don’t want them fixed too fast, so you can keep exploiting as long as possible.

Completely reasonable response. I would definitely jump directly to “CONSPIRACY!” when someone’s saying “be patient, they’re pretty busy having released a new MMO and all and will surely get to it in time”.

I really hope I just completely failed to detect your sarcasm.

Thanks!

It would be nice if the devs actually compiled a list like this for us in advance, but I’ll take what I can get. I love patch notes.

So tired of developers releasing MMORPGs without basic features that have become staple to the genre.

Since I can’t Quote:
DaedalusDragon: And one more thing, support experience is not necessary. Just giving out support exp shows an interest in the “holy trinity” because as it is every class can attack and heal and support. If you aren’t getting enough experience then try tagging enemies.

I assume that what the OP meant was that in DEs you get absolutely nothing for adding your support abilities to the mix. Nothing. If I ran around just reviving people, and nothing else, I’d get nothing from an event, yet if this job isn’t done, often times the more difficult DEs (e.g. Jormag, Grenth) will fail miserably.

Ergo, it’s more worthwhile for me to just mindlessly spam DPS on as many things as I can and hope that there are enough people out there willing to lose contribution to rez people.

That said, I DO rez people, but as a Mesmer, I need to give way more priority to hitting stuff than helping others, as I don’t have reliable AE (my AE attacks can be killed). I’ve rated silver on Jormag for having the audacity to scoop people up. I revived about 20-30+ people in one event and end up ranking lower than the ranger who just hits auto-attack and goes afk. If you don’t see a problem with this, I’m not sure what to say.

As for the OP’s eSport thing… please. I don’t mind them adding this, as long as we can separate these guys out into a different server or at least a separate instance from the Mists so we don’t get hit by their swinging cods in the process.

The whole concept is basically a bunch of gamers who think what they do is so skillful and amazing that it somehow classifies as a “sport”, and will insist on telling you as much whenever possible. It’s basically the same as sports albeit without the athleticism or sportsmanship.

The reasoning behind hiding player names?

in WvW

Posted by: Treize.7026

Treize.7026

In my opinion it’s better like this, in sPvP names should be visible (they may be, I haven’t paid attention), but in WvW the focus is on the team and not the individual so I think guild names are a good idea but hiding player names kinda prevents the ego thing from being a major factor.

I mean, I see the utility in showing names, in the early days of DAoC it was great for exactly the reasons that the OP described, but the way the PvP community in games has devolved, there are a subset of PvPers that are concerned first and foremost with looking awesome to everyone and not necessarily being a team player. The way things are in GW2 you don’t get that reward for being “that dude that solo-killed 4 people” but you DO get a reward (in terms of guild notoriety) for being “That guild that took Anzalia’s Pass from a group 4x their number”.

So the way I see it makes the WvW game about guilds and teams rather than individuals, which is a good thing as far as I’m concerned. Individuals acting on their own are not going to positively impact the performance of their server as a whole anyway.

WvW Foes on Walls

Yeah my berserker doesn’t require LOS at all to drop it on someone, I haven’t tried the warden, since I prefer the zerker’s range of motion when there’s a ton of people on the wall.

If they jump down into the keep you can still reapply it, but as was mentioned, it’s pretty easily countered. I was playing my warrior yesterday and someone did it to me while I was in a keep, I just killed it and went on with things.

I consider reflection a much more useful ability in keep attacks/defenses anyway, so I don’t usually make a point to make someone miserable by continually reapplying berserkers on them, if they’re on the wall, yeah. If they’re in the keep hiding, they’re effectively out of the fight already and don’t need killed.

I don’t know. The ability to pretty much spam a 3-second invul while dealing damage on an 8 second cool down is pretty dang strong.

You can pretty easily walk away from this ability.

Mesmer inbalanced?

Treize.7026

As was mentioned, the problem is a mesmer is hard to deal with for someone who’s not used to fighting them. I mostly do WvW, and any 1 on 1 fights I’ve had are either me completely trashing someone who doesn’t know how the mesmer works yet, or them completely trashing me because they do.

It’s a matter of identifying the player rather than the clone, if you can do that you’re halfway there. I’ve fought other mesmers that were not sure what to do and kept popping my clones, for an easy victory, and I’ve fought one other mesmer that knew exactly what to look for and we were fighting for about 5 minutes solid before he finally got me.

I’ll ruin it… if you see 4 mesmers standing around you attacking, look for the one that is moving not in a beeline to you, or using more than one ability, that’s the player.

Has anyone else stopped shattering?

In WvW I typically will dodge, use mirror blade for 2 illusions and then send a berserker into a zerg, typically the berserker gets one attack off before it’s dead, I then use F2 to confuse a ton of people, at which point the berserker’s back up :P, next rotation I use F1 shatter (which also confuses a bit with my build) and so on. Really effective tactic against zergs from what I’ve seen so far.

learn from DAoC: CC timers!

On any given night, I finish my dailies do group stuff if there are enough guildies on and then spend the rest of the night in WvW.

My first run ever out there, I ended up getting perma-immobilized by somekittencharmed Moa (I believe), it would expire and immediately reapply, over and over and over.

I don’t know what that was, I may have been misinterpreting the situation but needless to say I died.

At any rate, that’s the first and last time that happened, I haven’t been locked down at all since, so to me, CC timers seem fine as is. I play mostly at range and I’m a Mesmer, so maybe they’re just CCing my illusions? I don’t know.

then why are you here?

Definitely a well thought out and relevant contribution to the discussion. Keep it up!

Meanwhile for those who are capable of a discussion beyond the level of a 3rd grader, it is possible to like something from another game without, in fact, being obligated to go back to that game.

I honestly have to agree with the sentiment that TSW’s dungeons were fun. They really were… but that was one of the only things that that game had going for it in the end. GW2 on the other hand, everything else outside of dungeons is spot-on. I don’t know what needs done, I’m inclined to trust Anet since they’ve done everything else so well, but this is really one of the first games I’ve played that one dungeon run feels like it’s enough for me.

Comparing it with a vista in a keep misses the point so hilariously, I can’t help but laugh.

How is that missing the point? Both incidents involve getting upset because someone wants to do something non-PvP related without fear of death in a PvP zone.

Valid comparison or not, the fact remains you enter WvW, you immediately lose your right to complain if someone kills you. Why do you think non-PvP objectives were added to WvW in the first place? I’m going to guess it’s to add more locations where people are naturally brought together to fight over an objective. If it’s “Impossible” to get to the dudes running siege due to the speed loss in combat, I’ll agree that should be fixed, but even if it was, the people up top would just focus more on knocking people off, and the same people would be complaining that this sort of thing is occurring.
