Guild: Ours Is The Fury [FURY]

I was doing Sorrow’s Embrace p3 on my warrior the other day and used “Rush” just as my target died. Everyone watched as I ran toward the ledge and plummeted into the lava below.

No no no. We must go to the armory…
The mobs in Howling King fight really aren’t much of a problem either. If you pull them into the flame circles that appear on the ground they die almost instantly.
I figured this out when I rifle butted one into a flame circle. I found it so thoroughly enjoyable that I continued to run around rifle butting them into the fire.

Please send me an invite. I play a condition build on my mesmer. I’ve only ever done path 3 and will gladly do any path.

I went back and edited that into my post. :-P
Speaking of GW1 skills with references that have persisted into GW2:
“Rodgort’s Invocation” and “Mark of Rodgort” elementalist skills from GW1 → “Rodgort” came back as a legendary torch in GW2 and is “Trogdor” spelled backwards. Trogdor the Burninator is of course from Homestar Runner.

Order of Whispers story quest “An Apple a Day” has what I believe is a Breaking Bad reference, courtesy of Tybalt.
Ministry Commander Landon: Lady Beetlestone, if you think a few apple barrels will stop me, you’re going to be disappointed.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Landon, you’ve got two disappointments coming. First, Demmi’s not going back with you. Second…
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: These aren’t apple barrels!
Compare this to season 1, episode 6 of Breaking Bad, where Walter confronts Tuco:

OP, using ‘extraordinary good luck’ and ‘earned’ in the same sentence is incredibly contradicting.
He said, “Some of us enjoy variety , seeing that person with the extrodinarily good luck with an incredible weapon skin very few have , or those folks with tons of time to farm some item and craft and then get to show off what they earned.”
You’re deliberately omitting the part where he mentions crafted items just so you can call him out for something he didn’t say. Crafted items have a lot less to do with “luck” than the “gamble chest” items. Putting the dedication into crafting those items makes them “earned” in my book.
It appears that the real debate here isn’t about the time it takes to amass the crafting materials to create some of the items; it’s about the ethics of gambling for the “luck” items.

I guess that’s where we diverge. Some people want to everyone to live in Candyland where everyone can satisfy their sweet tooth. Others like to have things that serve as status symbols that show their distinction from the world around them.
What’s the point in having a Porsche if everyone has one? It’s pretty? Won’t it eventually just look ugly and bland in a sea of Porsches?
Continuing this analogy…
What people seem to think we’re asking for: Porsches for $10.
What we really want: A Porsche at retail value, not a Porsche that is ONLY available through spending several times the retail value in the lottery. How would you like to take your very large lump sum of cash to pay for a Porsche, go to the dealership, hand it over, and they go “Sorry, you were not one of the lucky ones this time but here’s a CD player instead. Thanks for the money!”
The catch is you should have known it was a lottery to begin with. I’m sure in your analogy the dealership (if a reputable one) would have advertised this lottery system.
Well, there are no other dealerships. Even if they advertised it that means that the only way for me to get a Porsche is to spend ridiculous amounts of money. I have no way to ever guarantee one, and I could be out millions of dollars with still no Porsche. I saved my money, I worked really hard, but I’m still not allowed to have a Porsche. Why exactly? I worked harder than everyone else to get something I wanted, but I’m not allowed to have it.
This analogy is just getting out of hand.
For one, you can buy these items off the TP from other players at a given (albeit expensive) price if you don’t want to gamble for it.
And for another thing, if you didn’t get it, tough luck. Maybe next time, sport. You knew there wasn’t a guarantee, right?

That is the difference between us Vacks. I don’t need to feel special. I’m not sure why everyone feels the need to be special. Simply put you aren’t. In the grand schemes of things this entire world isn’t even all that special. You could have all the money in the world that doesn’t make you special just like having electricity doesn’t make you special. Plenty of people in the world without it. I’d rather have fun and enjoy myself…because once I log off it’s back to responsiblities. Just writing this was kind of depressing.
Oh, I know I’m nothing special. I’m just not one to get depressed about it if I know I have something I worked for, or at least even have the potential to crawl out of the ooze and work toward my own fortunes.
If only there was something to really work towards for the middle of the road crowd even if I have a month I doubt I’d log enough hours to even come close to getting that staff. Town clothes and BLC chests aren’t worth the money spent on them. Not a whole lot to work towards…but hey I still have hope maybe they’ll add more towards the end.
I do agree with you there. It would be nice to have something else for just anyone to get. I mean, we do get free devil horns at least. But maybe there will be a finale where Mad King Thorn makes an appearance similar to in GW1 and gives away something exclusive for the year?

People that gamble their money away expecting results for their coin need to take responsibility for themselves. It is ANet’s system and they didn’t tell you the odds, but you went in there not knowing the odds and spent your money your way. It doesn’t matter if you knew the odds; you’d complain anyway if you didn’t get what you expected.
On the other hand, ANet probably knew you’d be irresponsible with your money at their gain, but I just can’t feel sorry for you. If your income is that disposable than surely you’re not starving or living off the streets.

You’re missing the point. The “Porsche” is a placeholder for “Car I can’t afford.” Nice try though.
EDIT: Also, thousands of Porsches made in a year. How many people in the world? Over 7 billion? And they can all afford this car?

Oh god let’s not go with the “OMG YOU DON’T NEED IT”. Honey, you don’t even need this game. You don’t need internet, a car, or a house. I mean no one is forcing me to pay for gas or use a cell phone, but if I can’t get to work well no more money! No cell phone? No way to contact anyone for anything! Techinally all you “need” in life is something warm, food, and water. So let’s just skip this road because it’s a load of bull and ya know it. I bought a game to have fun. I spend 90% of my time not having fun. I think that’s a problem and I’m going to let them know it. If they want to fix their game so it’s fun for me then cool. Not sure why fanboys act like this. If you want to debate points that are BS there are political forums out there.
If you want to go that route I don’t need a Porsche to drive to work. I don’t need surf and turf dinner every night. Things that would be great to have? Yes! Things that I can’t afford? Absolutely!
The point is, much of the enjoyment that comes out of these special items is from their exclusivity and off-chance occurrence. If I ate surf and turf every night I’d probably start to hate it.
if its any consolation they log in dead so have to pay almost 1s40 for the way point and then more for the repair costs, so anyone doing it is pretty much brain dead considering they will also have to queue up aswell
There is no waypoint cost if you are in a town.
And even though you’re dead when you log back on there are still no repair costs.
I don’t care about the whole name thing, but I’d love it if people could see the effort I put into collecting and dying my armor set. It has great aesthetic and it would be great to be known as “that brightly fall-colored sylvari mesmer that constantly eludes my wrath.”
Hmm never payed attention to that always assumed the icons were all commander. Not sure why he turned it on after he entered during combat then.
You can’t turn the star off, its the reward for 100% world completion.
first 2 don’t show it.
must be another one of their famous hacks LOL just kidding.
It’s possible they just got map completion from that tower’s POI in between screenshots.

I think it really depends on which server you are on.
I’m one of those people that like to stay behind and build up defenses after a tactical point is taken. I’ve yet been told to quit defending and re-join the Zerg.
Servers that understand giving up hard fought real estate so easily is not going to win too many week long matches.
I’m the same way. I have a lot of fun placing siege on the map and watching people use it to make a difference in the match. That’s more rewarding to me than gold or karma. I like getting gold and karma, but the real fun for me isn’t in getting a tangible reward.
The problem is that the game only rewards aggression. Defending will not net anywhere close to the badges/karma/loot as zerging. Running siege equipment actually costs you something. Repairing, or running supplies, or upgrading, all things that give no tangible ingame reward. Really, honor/karma/loot should be tied to your server’s progress and point advantage attained in WvW. The current system is, well, bad.
Yes, it is unfortunate. Too many people play for the “reward” for this system to work. More people want personal gain for their efforts and there’s no changing that. Playing to have “fun” or even to win doesn’t mean as much to them as playing to max out your characters. The “fun” is more in the end and not so much the means for them.
I see it all the time. I was criticized just last night for asking people to repair gates and work toward upgrades because we were “just going to lose the tower overnight anyway.”
Granted it will probably be lost, but the point is to buy time and get as many points out of it as possible. The longer a tower/keep holds the enemy at bay, the more the enemy has to invest time and resources into it. Upgrades aren’t meant to make a fortress impregnable; they’re there to make it difficult to the enemy and help your side make a stand.
Clothing should read:
“NOT USABLE IN PVP”
Still able to enjoy WvW this week despite our low representation, but it feels like many players have become existentialists. In response to trying to get people organized, all I get from some people is the “Why bother? We’re just going to lose.” attitude, as they lean in the corner and puff their cigarettes. Some people are too fixated on the score and a lot of them don’t even realize that we could still at least fight for 2nd place if ranking really concerns them.
Same with mesmer staff. I think this is a profession-wide issue.
Not that I necessarily agree with this sentiment, but what about axing trebuchets altogether and increasing the range of catapults a bit?
Yes, we should definitely combine our efforts in one way or another. I will make sure that this subject comes up in tonight’s “Sorrow’s Revenge” meeting.

Did you really just type all of that as a delivery method of slipping in your QQ about SoR being in the lead?
SoR has not noticed any SF guilds or players at all join our side. In fact whenever SF are playing and this is when DH had a decent lead, they would run over and attack bluelake usually being our only tower on the red map.
SoR has not returned any type of hacking or glitching as you sneakily accused us of in this post.
SoR does not plan any kind of nightcaping. In fact our prime time is around 8pm EST. Maybe it’s just a time zone issue but over here in America when i wake up every map, every single tower and keep is usually DH owned which gives you a nice burst of points, which is no longer working due to SoR’s hard work and epic defenses vs greater numbers. You can also see in multiple threads of DH admitting to nightcaping as their main strategy “because they are smarter”. Which isn’t really an issue anyways.
I agree that the server transfers and hacking/glitching are ruining a good game we could be having but don’t try to type out a long post to justify your sneaky accusations you’ve slipped in and discredit SoR’s hard work.

3. Archaic . a continuous, confused noise; clamor; din.
If it had happened several times in a row in the same group on the same go I’m not sure I would have stuck around. I probably would have given up, too. Either way it would be great to see a fix. :-)
This has happened to me at least 3 times in 3 different groups. Each time, we went back and tried again and got past her. I’m unsure what could have triggered it, but it doesn’t happen every time.
It’s great to see a thread like this after seeing a reduced presence of SF in WvW the past couple of days. Best of luck to you; I hope to see our numbers back up soon!
Thank you for reposting this. I saw the original and agree 100%.
Using mesmer focus skill #4 is my favorite part of WvW. It’s a bit risky, but I really get a ball out of parking myself on a precarious ledge and tempting a group of enemy players to come get me, and then pulling them all off to their deaths. You can really turn a battle around just by pulling the enemy zerg apart bit by bit.
Come back when they have arrow carts set up in the right places and it’ll be a different story.
Yes, I love skirmishes in the puzzle, but it’d be nice to see siege camping go away.
SO you killed a bunch of PVErs in a PVP zone, good on ya.
Except no, they appeared to be camping the top, and obviously had just killed three from my server. Thanks for playing.
To that group of 10-15 SoR guys at the top of the arena in the Eternal Battlegrounds jumping puzzle at about 6:30-7:00PM(EST) last night (10/1/12), I want to introduce myself as the sylvari mesmer from SF that came up behind you along with the sylvari guardian. The two of us completely wiped you out in what was the most exhilarating experience I’ve had in GW2 so far.
Using the mesmer focus skill 4, I started right away by pulling four of you off the outer edge to your deaths. By the time the rest of your group ran around and got to us, the cooldown was up and I pulled a few more of you off as you charged me. We backed down the stairs a little bit and some of you were hanging out on the ledge above us. I pulled a couple more of you down to our level, one at a time, and we picked you off one by one while the rest of your group fired at us from the ledge. By the time we came back up the stairs there were just two of you left to mop up. So we did, and then we resurrected three of our guys that you killed just before we got there. The rest of the way up to the chest I had the adrenaline shakes and kept falling off. I still can’t believe it happened. Thanks for the good time guys!
What’s the problem here? Either way the enemy is getting rid of you. Sure, you might deny them a loot bag and might hurt their feelings a little bit, but they’ll get over it.
Well because it’s cheap, dishonest, most likely an exploit, and you’re also robbing me of kill count, loot, and badges. Not to mention when you die, your forced to rez far away and then pay for repairs before running all the way back. Moral of the story, no one likes cheaters.
Okay, so the person logs out via “exploit.” Now he’s out of WvW and has to requeue if during busy hours. All to save on a repair bill? I’m sorry about your kill count and loot bag, but how often does this really happen?
The golem rush would have succeeded if we didn’t spot them all marching out of Anzalias and across the bridge. As soon as we spotted that we all rallied to the keep and built siege.

You understand that the only reason Darkhaven holds most of the land is because you have a larger population right? Sorrow’s Furnace usually has a 10k point lead and 300+ potential points until we get nightcapped by your huge population. Darkhaven accumulates freebie points for the 8-10 hours off time when WvW is virtually empty.
LOL

Not that I have a problem with night capping, but it is true. These graphs came out before DH fielded an alliance with “a good group of hardcore pvpers that play in the euro/asiapacific timezones.” Nice try though.
Keep up the good fight. I want it to be down to the wire tonight when I get home.
While the numbers (population) game is tantamount, organization during any hour of the day still holds great sway.
The more ground/score we buy during the day, the more we can stand to lose overnight. The more we’re organized during the day, the greater our potential at earning said ground/score. No matter what time of day, organization is still important.
It’s true; I have actually used Time Warp to help resurrect fallen players/finish off enemy players quickly. It’s pretty cool.
Fielding a group of 15 players along with siege to hold the arena for 3 hours is not a winning strategy; it’s a waste of time and resources (i.e. players) that could be better used in the Eternal Battlegrounds. The only reason to camp for an extended period of time is for the enjoyment of keeping the other man down. Furthermore, it really doesn’t take 15 people to keep the other servers from getting up; it’s practically overkill. Just one guy on a well-placed arrow cart can keep others from ever making any of the jumps.
On the other hand, sparring with other players on the way up to get your own reward is fantastic and probably what was intended.

I apologize for the egocentric view but it’s overnight to me, and probably most others since these are all NA servers. Nothing wrong with that, though. Has been a great matchup.
Thanks. The way Darkhaven closes the gap overnight really makes them live up to their server name.
Anyone have a score update on the SF/DH/SoR match? I’m at work and consequently can’t check for several hours, and I know how productive DH’s night crew can be.
I’d have to agree with sticking it out as a mesmer. They have so many tools for manipulating the battlefield and buffing/debuffing.
As mentioned above, you can pull up to 5 players off of keep/tower walls with the focus. Not only that, but you can pull people off of high bridges and cliffs, sometimes to their deaths. The other night there was a large battle on the stairway and bridge just south of Askalion Hills. I pulled 3-5 people off of that stairway and to their deaths not once, not twice, but three times over the course of that battle.
There’s also feedback, which can completely shut down some siege as well as ranged defenders on keep/tower walls. Not only does it protect your mates but it also punishes your enemies, especially since it makes enemies combo confusion on themselves.
That’s not even mentioning the amount of survivability you have as a mesmer. With the right utility skills, you can completely troll the opposing server’s force into following you the wrong direction into a trap or away from an objective, and then still come out alive.
You can also spawn illusions like the berserker or warden (sometimes) up on keep/tower walls to lay down some respectable damage.
And then of course there’s portal, which has been already mentioned.
