I’m currently trying to make a Minstrel set for my WvW ele to experiment with.

That’s 18 pearls. Almost 500 gathers later, I have 0 pearls.

I know I could spend the gold and buy them, but I don’t want to drop over 100g simply to experiment with a niche armor set which I will probably discard.

This drop rate pretty much takes Minstrels armor off the table.

Too many legendaries.

OK so, in summary:

Season One was too grindy for “good” players as they had to “carry” average/bad players.

Season 2 is too grindy because too many people got to Legendary (in your opinion). (But queue times in Legendary are too high as well!)

So in summary, ANet need to make a system that:

1. Isn’t grindy for you getting to Legendary
2. Is difficult, if not impossible, for anyone else to get to Legendary
3. Has short queue times at Legendary

Disclaimer: I solo queued to Legendary this season despite horrific losing streaks in Emerald and Sapphire

I’m fully done being potato farmed in solo queue. I accept I’m to blame for my average MMR that started this whole mess (due to me experimenting with builds A LOT in Ruby end of last season), but now I want to take my pvp to the next level.

Any suggestions on decent PVP guilds in EU?

Don’t require 100% rep
Don’t require me on at fixed times.
Aren’t total kittens (I’m ok with moderate kittenry)

I’ve seen people in this thread saying things like “im casual and I play 8 hours a night” and “I’m casual and this is mandatory”.

Newsflash, you aren’t casual. You are playing the game A LOT. Hell, almost as much as I used to play when hardcore raiding in WoW.

And if you are setting yourself insanely high goals in insanely short timescales. Again, not casual. You can do these things, it will just take a kitten ton more time to do it.

I’m working for my nightfury and the winter backpack. I play 1-3 hours a day if I’m lucky. I know and accept I won’t have them “rightthekittennow”, but I will get them.

Lucid Singularity is totally underpowered for a GM trait. And the warhorn trait gets doomed by 3 different design failures:

  • Warhorn is our worst offhand
  • The cooldown is 30 seconds (or 20 with the earth cooldown trait), not 10 like the trait states
  • The automatic Sand Squall doesn’t even proc if you don’t have Warhorn equipped…

10 second cooldown and proccing while not having a Warhorn would actually make this trait compete with the Aura Healing trait I think.

And would be completely cancer and broken with the perma magnetic aura that would follow.

But that’s how the talent was designed, a magnetic aura on a 30 second cooldown is nowhere near GM worthy. Otherwise, why would there even be the tooltip that lists the cooldown as 10 seconds?

Also, 50% is nowhere near “perma magnetic aura”. Using hyberboles without facts make you look uninformed.

I’m all for improving the trait (and annoying rangers), but 50% uptime on magnetic aura does seem a bit much.

The game type should clue you in… Massivley-Multiplayer-Online.

If you can’t stand the rest of the community to thebpointbyou have hamstring your enjoyment of the game… Well, that’s your issue and not Anets.

And for the love of Dhuum. Does ever single tiny tangential complaint need a new thread?! This forum is already hard enough to navigate without “I’m quitting HOT because X” thread number 9000.

Leave the Dolly’s at 5 minutes and triple the base timers. That would make the upgrade system matter more, I think.

How is it bugged?

One of the missions that you have to complete to unlock it gets stuck and is unfinishable, i assume that’s what he means

Also, sometimes you are mysteriously one-shotted at the end of Drone Race itself when using the final ramp to jump over the flames at the end.

Luckly, unlike the event that often bugs out before it, there is a workaround; ramp over the rocks to the left of the flames instead, you’ll land safely behind them without any problems crossing the finish line.

Hop on the rocks to the left at the end. The poison field extends higher than the gfx so you can’t hop over.

I still kind of wish they would have given one of the minor traits some kind of modifier like:

“Your mainhand weapon abilities take half as long to recharge(or)cast, but are half as effective”

Being in one attunement for so long just feels like mashing auto attack far too often, which is the single biggest thing I hate in MMOs.

I cannot like this idea enough, it is 100% the right approach to take to begin untangling the complexity which is causing issues balancing elementalists.

Maybe putting the new utilities in a fire trait isn’t far enough though. Maybe do the following: move glyph trait from air to earth, signets to fire and the new trait into air? This would allow the conjures to play well with the “melee brawler” line and might make it a little more appealing?

I dunno, just a thought!

Very much agree with Comfys analysis.

Rather than just suggesting the usual for Overloads i thought I would suggest an alternative:

Change overloads to be like the Legendary Clockheart ability:

Overload: On activation, the elementalist gains a stacking buff (over 5s or whatever). During this stacking buff the “channel” effect is gained. At 25 stacks, the “complete channel” effect is felt, and the elementalist gains “exhausted” preventing them from overloading attunements for a given time. If the elementalist is knocked down/stunned/etc they are [Insert Penalty Here].

This will allow a more elegant form of the same ability. Allowing the mandatory dodging a front line player needs without changing the core intent of the spec. And it uses existing technology in GW2 to do it!

Edit: Karl, very much approve of the change to rebound! you are playing around with. If it remains anything like what you outlined it will 100% become my elite of choice for WvW.

Personally, I think the main mistake that has been made is making tempest a melee build – We already have D/D, D/F for that.

We also already have an incredibly strong long range weapon in staff.

I feel that a trick has been missed in making Tempest a S/W design. If they tweaked a few traits, altered overloads to not be PBAoE and gave scepter a rework I think they would have been on to a winner. And more importantly a winner that could have been used in all 3 game modes.

I’ve begun thinking of Tempest Overloads as analogous to a haymaker in a fight.

In a simple brawl between regular folk, yes you will on occasion luck out and land a haymaker. It is a very high risk, high reward punch. It is also a very imperfect punch.

In a competitive environment, against experienced opponents, a haymaker is suicide. It is a very rare occasion when an experienced fighter will ever even consider throwing the haymaker.

I honestly get the impression that this is all down to corporate double speak. Sounds like a dev (whoever that may be) has been on “holiday” (read in to that what you will) and has not properly handed over the work to another dev.

In order to at least do something for us, another dev has been drafted in to do triage, and make whatever quick and easy changes could be made without completely stepping all over the work done by the main Tempest developer. Management would have thought this sufficient to appease the angry forum bear (http://i.imgflip.com/poht2.jpg) and have sadly miscalculated.

I say give the dev who is returning from holiday or whoever is now making the Tempest changes a couple of weeks and hope that they can pull something out of the bag before things get too close to crunch.

Beyond that there is nothing we can really do or say at this point to get our point across without going full screaming gamerkid on the situation.

TL:DR, cut Irenio some slack. At least he/she/Asura is talking to us.

Tempest creates entirely new role for ele?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Valentinus.3412

Valentinus.3412

Having tried it in WvW last night, the short answer is: No.

Warhorn is decent for running in the melee train.

Shouts are “OK”, but will never be picked over cantrips due to the lack of trait synergy versus the massive synergy you get from cantrips.

Speccing out of Arcane and Water is simply not viable due to how ridiculously good cleanse and EA are. This leaves us with T/W/Ar build, which has less damage than FWAr, is less tanky than EWAr, and less control than AWAr. Aura traits are all over the place, making any build suboptimal to a Regen Cantrip build.

Overloads are just garbage. I saved this one til last, as I didn’t want to come off as negative but I just can’t see any point in it:

1. The mechanic is clunky: Change Attunement → Wait 5 seconds → Cast 5 seconds →Wait 20 seconds to use again, or swap and wait another 5 seconds.

2. Long channel is a death wish in WvW. It means no dodging, can be interrupted and makes you a big glowing target. This prevents you from going front line, which was the intent of the spec. Overload Fire is ok-ish, but you can’t spec in to fire due to TWAr being the only viable spec.

Finally Rebound: It’s rubbish all over the place, which fits with the ele theme of rubbish elites. So… good job on that? I guess?

Tempest Overloads

in Elementalist

Posted by: Valentinus.3412

100% agree. But the main problem I see at the moment is that Overload goes into a 5 second cooldown when you switch to the attunement. Not sure if this is intentional or not but it is really clunky.

Make it DARK, so that you need torches to move about easily (not weapon torches, but a buff or something).

Hell, it would get me playing at night just to experience it.

How can we changed WvW to prevent the blob

in WvW

Posted by: Valentinus.3412

Valentinus.3412

The amount of people that do not want to blob is very small. WvWvW is niche to begin with. Any personal preferences group you into a subset of this already relatively tiny set. You are playing a game where majority of people (and a game company) prefer this style of play; large hectic battles with lots of siege. Blobs aint going anywhere. It’s preferred… remember that

Personally, I feel you are conflating “prefer blobbing” with “prefer using the most effective playstyle”. As a long time WvW player, consensus is that the majority of people find blobbing to be the only way to play, not their preferred way to play.

I have been mulling one thing for the over for a while now.

I started by thinking what the main difference is between a Real Life large scale army and a Guild Wars 2 large scale army and then it hit me: SOUND.

As a rule of thumb, a gigantic “zerg” in real life would make a hell of a racket compared to the ultra stealthy mega zergs of GW2.

This would make it much easier for scouts to find and track, compared to smaller groups.

So, how do we implement this in game? I came up with 3 possibilities.

1. A “footfalls” buff that applies to players depending on how close they are to a large enemy group, allowing scouts to know when they are close to a zerg.

2. A sonar like overlay for the world map that pulses every few seconds and starts to show up enemy groups once they pass a certain threshold of players in a group, “swords on steroids” if you will.

3. Actual, physical SOUND. Make it so that, the bigger the group the louder you are and the more sound travels. I’ve always found it a little disconcerting that large scale zergs make no sound until you are right on top of them!

Now, don’t get me wrong, this will only work in concert with multiple other changes to make defending more worthwhile but this was my 2c on the subject.

Idea for Incentivizing Objective Scouting

in WvW

Posted by: Valentinus.3412

Valentinus.3412

Here’s my idea: A telescope/binoculars bundle, and a flare gun.

Basically this is how you would scout. Turn the telescope on, scan the landscape and when you see enemy players (not inside of a tower they own of course) you can “ping” them on the map using a skill from the telescope. When you ping successfully (i.e. ping contains an enemy player) you get a reward.

Obviously there would need to be some limitations:
No pinging when X number of friendlies are near by
Xminute cooldown timer on ping skill
