Mastery Cap Without Gold in Adventures?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Vanchatron.2306

Vanchatron.2306

I’ve been trying and trying and trying to do this certain adventure minigame thing now for around 3 hours and just can’t get past silver. I’m not enjoying it at all, and the only reason I was doing it was because I figured I wouldn’t be able to max out mastery without getting gold in all the adventures.

Is this the case? Or can I max out my mastery lvl by doing other stuff? I see that individual achievements reward you with mastery points, but do I need to get EVERY single mastery point rewarding achievement in order to max the lvl cap?

Thanks guys.

NA/EU Version Question

Posted by: Vanchatron.2306

Vanchatron.2306

I just recently purchased Heart of Thorns for my brother. He went to his account to click the ‘Redeem a Code’ button and add the expansion, and then noticed something on the left hand side of the screen.

It said “Region: North America”.

This seems very strange as we both live in the UK and purchased the game originally here, so I’ve no idea why it says North America. Is the region forcing him to play via a North American data centre, even though he lives in the EU?

If so, are support able to change the region on the account? If they’re not able to, then how will the lag affect him? Can he still play the game without ability lag etc?

Thanks for your help.

Daredevil Worth Using WITHOUT Staff?

Vanchatron.2306

In PvE I currently am using D/D and Shortbow. I’m running Deadly Arts, and Critical Strikes but I’m not sure whether to use Daredevil as my third specialization, considering I’m not using the staff.

I’ve never had a problem with endurance before, so the extra endurance bar from Physical Supremacy makes no difference really. The health gain from Driven Fortitude seems negligible. I usually open fights with Steal, so the endurance gain from Endurance Thief isn’t really gonna help me either.

The Daredevil trait lines also seems to wanna force you to use up your endurance just for the procs from the grand trait lines (Bounding Dodger, etc.) so I’m ending up running out of endurance moreso than when I’m NOT using Daredevil, even though I’ve got a third endurance bar, which is meant to make it easier. Then again, if I wanna save my endurance for important situations, my Bounding Dodger ability just sits gathering dust.

I know they are called ‘Elite’ Specializations, so does that make them 100% worth taking? Am I gonna be gimping myself somehow by not running Daredevil?

Thank you guys.

Staff Vs Bow for PvE?

Ah okay I see what you mean, that’s fair enough.

Well for melee, I’d probably rather stick with D/D. I’ll mess around with the staff for a bit but probably won’t now use it as my go to melee weapon.

Having said that, is the Daredevil trait line still worth using even if not using a staff?

Staff Vs Bow for PvE?

in Thief

Vanchatron.2306

I just got HoT (I know, I’m late) after a long break and was just wondering a few things about the Daredevil.

I’ve always used D/D and Bow in PvE. The D/D was my single target weapon and the Bow was my AoE and gtfo weapon. Now that I’ve got access to the staff, I’ll be swapping out the Bow most likely but then I lose my ranged ability of course.

I don’t particularly want to swap out my daggers for the staff, but then again I’d like to use the staff and try out the Daredevil stuff. So what does it come down to… Is D/D and Staff viable in PvE or am I gimping myself by dropping the bow? I hear the staff is a good AoE weapon so I’ve got that covered, but not the range offered by the bow.

To be honest, whatever happens I’d like to keep my D/D so it’s basically Staff Vs Bow, as the title says haha.

Thanks!

In What Way Is HoT Adding "Progression"?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Vanchatron.2306

I like GW2, been playing since it released, but like so many others I have come to a point where I can’t really “progress” any further. I’ve got all my ascended armour/weapons/accessories. I’ve got my character looking exactly the way I want, so I’ve no need to grind extra skins (until something is released which I like the looks of more than what I currently have equipped, but you never know when that’ll be).

I’ve heard that HoT is meant to be bringing some form of progression in but how does it work exactly? I’m not looking for WoW style treadmill grind or anything like that, that’s not what I’m saying… I just need some new form of progression to set my focus on.

Thanks guys.

Brilliant, thanks guys.

On a related note, would you say Assassin’s Signet is better for general PvE, dungeons etc than Signet of Shadows? I usually use Signet of Shadows for the 25% movement speed buff and the AoE blind it gives. But I’ve got a feeling people are gonna complain if I run it in dungeons :/

I’ve never really bothered using Assassin’s Signet because I was confused as to whether the passive outperforms the active, or vice versa. Also, I wasn’t sure when (if at all) to use the active effect, which gives 15% extra damage on the next five attacks.

On the other hand, Foefire’s Essence is a very nice sword and I often notice people who have them. There’s not as many of them around as Sunrise/Twilight anyway from what I’ve seen.

New PvP Thief: Why Am I Dying Within Seconds?

in PvP

Posted by: Vanchatron.2306

Vanchatron.2306

A few things:

  1. Your build doesn’t have any stun breakers. This means that if someone uses any disable on you, you have no way to get out. Take Shadow Step . It not only will save your kitten if you get spiked, but it’s actually two stun breakers in one! It even removes 3 conditions when you return.
  2. Your build is WAY too yolo for someone just starting out. D/D isn’t even really used much in PvP simply because the other weapon sets are far better. This is the meta D/P thief and with some practice, will get you much farther.
  3. Your tactics are probably all wrong. You aren’t a warrior. You’re a HUNTER. You wait for the enemies to already be worn down by your allies and you jump in and BOOM, dead. If you are going for 1v1s and a noobie, you’re going to be severely disappointed with thief.
  4. Your mechanics are probably off. Are you using steal mid cast of skills to come out of no where and burst? Or are you just walking in?

If you want some help with the class, I can get you started in game. I’m no top tier thief, but I definitely know how to get a thief going in PvP.

Another note, the thing about this game is simply taking the right amulet will allow you to do lots of damage. You don’t need to be 8 billion points into power and crit lines to be strong. You can go deep into defensive lines and still be really damaging. Take a look at This Build . While that build is running berserker with fire and air, the traits are MUCH more defensive and thus, you can stay alive a lot more.

- Will add Shadowstep to my bar right away!

- I actually heard a few people talking in PvP the other day saying that D/D sucked, but I wasn’t sure what the alternative was.

- Tbh, I HAVE been yolo’ing it like a Warrior, ha ha. I tend to start fights instead of end them, I guess I’m gonna have to scout around a bit better before engaging in combat.

- Regarding Steal, I almost always use it to engage the enemy, as my build has it apply poison, which I figured was best to put on them at the start seeing as it’s a DOT?

- What is a “meta” build? Sorry. Do you mean like cookie cutter? Really not bothered if it is, I’ll still use it, just wondered what meta meant :P

Thanks for the builds, I’ll take a look at them.

New PvP Thief: Why Am I Dying Within Seconds?

Vanchatron.2306

A few days back I noticed that you could get the Balthazar back piece from playing PvP, and being currently in the need for a new back piece I decided to start PvP’ing for the first time in GW2. I know that a lot of these issues are because I’m new to PvP in GW2, so I’m just looking for some advice/tips to help me get better. Anyway…

It doesn’t matter if I catch somebody unaware or not, whenever I engage in combat with somebody 1v1 I am dead within seconds and they have like 75%+ health left. My attacks are constantly getting “blocked” by players so I end up hardly even hitting them.

I’ve been running D/D in PvP with full Berserker gear & Scholar runes. I mean I could be dying within seconds due to wearing Berserker gear, but the thing is I’ve come across a lot of Thieves 1v1 in PvP and they just wipe me out within 2-3 seconds whereas I’ve hardly even hit them. So surely THEY must have been wearing Berserker gear if they can wipe me out that easy shouldn’t they? If so, how come I hardly ever do any damage to them, lol?

Anyway, would appreciate some help with this so I can at least start enjoying PvP a little on the way to the back piece I want. Perhaps I’m using the wrong weapons, talents, skills… I don’t know.

This is my current PvP build, probably crap – http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAoYVlsMp8pFOxzJsPNRLhsdoNf09Sg+qC

Any Way To Lower Particle Effects?

in Account & Technical Support

Vanchatron.2306

I don’t know if it will help the issue, although I was wondering if there was a way to reduce the density of particle effects or something like this ingame?

The problem is, I’m playing as a Thief and have some traits that require me to attack a foe from behind or the side. I try to position myself to the side or behind a boss, although due to the large amount of particle effects surrounding the enemy, because of other players bombarding them with spells etc, I find it very hard to actually see the enemy.

So basically, is there any kind of option to toggle which will allow me to see the enemy more clearly? I don’t mind lowering some graphical options if that’s the issue.

Thanks guys.

D/D: Is Sigil Of Blood Worth Using?

in Thief

Posted by: Vanchatron.2306

Vanchatron.2306

I’m currently using Dagger/Dagger in PvE, although find my survivability rather on the low side, even with all my dodging etc. It’s not TOO bad, although some more survivability would definitely help.

I currently use Sigil of Force (5% Damage) and Sigil of Accuracy (5% Crit) on my daggers. Would it be worth swapping the Sigil of Force for a Sigil of Blood (30% Chance on Critical: Steal Health)? Or is the healing from it not even worth using?

Thanks guys.

Thanks fellas, I have taken in every piece of advice you’ve given to me!

I guess one of my main questions right now is when should I melee and when should I range? Having just come from AR, the new dungeon, I was ranging the whole time I was there with my SB, due to the fact that I didn’t know when it’d be safe to move in and melee.

Is there a specific time I should be melee’ing and a specific time I should be ranging?

Ideally I’d love to melee 24/7 as a thief, although this just seems impossible. So when should I melee and when should I range?

What The Hell Am I Doing Wrong?

Vanchatron.2306

Thank you guys, that’s great. Would you suggest switching my Berserker armor to something like Valkyrie so that I get added health? I’m currently at 12.5k HP, which just seems ridiculously low, although I notice other thieves doing fine with this amount of health, and staying alive throughout the entire dungeon/fractal yet I get hit once and I’m dead.

I’ve tried getting used to dodging as much as I can, yet it doesn’t seem to help. I STILL get hit, and when I do I can guarantee I’m dead. Surely thieves aren’t expected to NEVER get hit at all in a dungeon are they? I mean, that’s the only way I can see myself surviving, but then again going into a dungeon expecting to NEVER get hit just isn’t going to work, it seems inevitable that I WILL die at some point, which is why I’m so nervous about using D/D even when there’s only 1 mob around.

What The Hell Am I Doing Wrong?

in Thief

Posted by: Vanchatron.2306

Vanchatron.2306

I’ve played GW2 since it first released, and thought I was “ok” at the game. Recently I’ve been running a lot of dungeons and fractals and I’m dying ALL THE TIME. I just got kicked from an AC exp group and was told by the leader “kekekeke you suck, l2p”. This is the type of reaction I get every single time I try to do group events. I’m ALWAYS dying.

I chose Thief because I liked the melee play style of wielding two daggers. The problem is, it seems literally impossible to fight anything using melee as a thief. I came up against Kholer in AC, and every time he pulled me towards him and did his whirlwind move, I died, without fail. Group leader said “omg noob learn to dodge”. That’s fair enough, but when his pull is pretty much INSTANT how can I dodge it? It’s impossible to dodge EVERYTHING but if I make 1 little mistake, I’m dead. This leads me to have to sit back and range with a shortbow for 90% of the game. If I wanted to range, I’d have gone Ranger or Elementalist or something. I’m fed up with having to sit back and just range my target constantly, knowing that if I set foot in melee position I’ll wipe.

Yet you see Mesmers, Elementalists, Guardians, Warriors all just standing and melee’ing the boss, whilst I’m stood ages away having to range. I’m constantly the first to go down in dungeons and it’s getting embarassing.

I really don’t know what the answer is. I’ve bought P/V/T gear, tried it, same result so went back to Berserker. My gear is currently as follows:

Armor – Exotic Berserker with Ruby Orb

Weapons – D/D (Exotic Berserker with Superior Sigil of Force & Accuracy). SB (Exotic Berserker with Superior Sigil of Force)

Trinkets – Exotic Berserker with Exquisite Ruby Jewel

Build – 25/30/0/15/0

Obviously this is glass cannon like, but having been reading around on this forum and GW2guru etc, “supposedly” the best way to play a Thief IS as a glass cannon, due to their need for high damage Backstabs etc. That would be fine if I was even able to pull off a Backstab, but if I try I usually die so I’m often just forced to sit back and range.

I’ve been contemplating all types of things to help me survive, whether it be changing my gear, changing my traits or what but I’m clueless as to what the best option is. It’s putting me off going into dungeons and fractals now because I know I’m gonna look like an idiot being downed all throughout. I just end up being a huge burden for my team.

What do you guys suggest? It’s getting to the point now where I’m getting so frustrated with this, I don’t feel like logging on due to the embarassment and awkwardness or dying all the time. I also read that if you were to give your Thief defensive stats (whether it be in traits or gear) you’re gimping your Thief, because they’ll do less damage than a Warrior for the same amount of survivability, or less even. Therefore, apparently you’re MEANT to run glass cannon as Thief. I mean I’ve seen videos on Youtube of Thieves using Berserker gear and running my exact build who are flying through Fractals 40 without a scratch, it’s ridiculous.

Would greatly appreciate some help with this guys!

As said, any help I get with this is much appreciated.

Part of the reason they’d ask for when you earned the achievement would be to find out WHAT went wrong, and prevent it from happening again.

Do they not have logs or anything that let them know what happened?

I apologise to anybody kitten ed off with me mentioning them, but it’s the best example I could think of… World of Warcraft are able to create a whole new character complete with all his/her items 100% if you delete your character. All it takes is for you to contact support and ask them to restore your character and that’s that.

I’ve even had my account hacked before and numerous items taken from me, yet after contacting support they were able to return them to me within a matter of minutes.

I can’t understand why GW2 can’t do this with the items I get from the monthly achievements. It is clear that it HAS bugged for me, I’m not messing anybody around. Infact it’s only the 10 laurels I would have received that I’m most bothered about, the other items I couldn’t really care less.

It’s really unfortunate that a month’s worth of gameplay has gone down the drain due to this.

Dragons are nothing, but a big Joke!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Vanchatron.2306

Vanchatron.2306

Last off all there are 3 dragons in dynamic world events. One could argue that the first two (the shatterer and Tequatl) are a bit easy. On the other hand they are nothing easier then any other world event.

Oh well.

I gave more than enough information in my post on dragons, and if you didn’t get that message or understand what I am talking about then I guess you are just slow… They are simply too easy. 1 minute after they’re announced, they are dead…

Do something for gods sake, it’s ridiculous. I thought events scaled with the amount of players. In which case, Tequatl, and the Shatterer both need desperate attention. They’re the “Big bad dragons” after all, that everyone in the lore is so godkitten afraid of. Really, they are too easy.

Then there is Jormag, whose only difficulty is how he artificially lengthen the battle by forcing players to bash on a block of ice that has far more HP than the boss itself while casting a cheap damaging debuff on people that get too close… He doesn’t do ANYTHING while he’s behind that block of ice! He summons his minions, and that’s it. He just sits there behind his block of ice going “Can’t touch this!”… It’s not hard, it’s just tedious.

Actually, in most of the battles, the dragons don’t do kitten. The things you have to look out for are their minions. Look at Tequatl when he first arrives. He kittening leaps out of the ocean, wrecks a tower before he lands in front of the big scary cannon. Then what? He drops some stuff from his wings… Once in a while he’ll cry, and make everyone turn away laughing at the sight of a crying dragon. What if it used it’s agility to actually do something else than stand still taking anything that hits it? It’s clearly capable of such considering it’s entrance.

Elaborate enough for you?

Again!! Wich bloody dragons. Given the fact that you name Tequatl, I assume you mean the ones for world bosses. Well I dont see an issue with specificly the dragons and e.g. the maw, the shatterer or the mark II gollem.

So I think your suggesting is to make those events, all world bosses and not just the 3 dragons, more dynamic.
In that case you have my vote (except maybe claw of Jormag, he is actually a good example how it can be done).

But I think you should tidy up your language and your attitude. A good suggestion is measured by how many supporters you get for one. So tidy it up, make it for all world bosses, not only for dragons, use Jormag as a good example how it can be done, incorporate the fact that they should be still doable with smaller groups of people and you will have my vote.

I support him.

They responded with:

Hello ______,

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team.

We understand how you might feel about this situation. I would like to further investigate your case but I will need a little more information about your issue. Please provide the exact time and date when you gain the 4th task for the Monthly Achievement, along with your time zone. Once we have this information we will be able to investigate this matter.

We will be waiting for your response.

I then replied to them with the requested info, only to receive the following back as a reply shortly afterwards:

Hello ______,

Thanks for contacting the Guild Wars Support Team.

While I would like to replace or restore your items, the Guild Wars Support Team is unable to replace individual items for the situation that you have described.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Regards

Now to be told that there is nothing they can do about this situation is just ridiculous. I am just baffled as to why I should be the victim of a mistake on THEIR end.

I just feel this is ridiculous as I have spent nearly one month doing all of the required achievements for the monthly achievement reward, and to be told that there is nothing they can do about me not receiving the reward I have earned, just seems a bit strange.

Am I to just accept this and move on? Surely not. There’s got to be SOMETHING that can be done about this. I have nearly a month’s worth of achievement grinding done for absolutely no reward whatsoever.

I would very much appreciate some help with this situation from somebody with the relevant expertise/power to help me.

Based on this, what do you feel would benefit me more? I’ve been thinking of switching to 15 points in Shadow Arts for the extra 1 second in stealth, and the “Infusion of Shadow” skill, which returns 3 initiative on stealth.

But the thing is, I already only have around 12500 health (without food) and fear if I take away the 15 points in Acrobatics, I’ll leave myself with an extremely low health pool.

It’s mainly for PvE.

What do you guys suggest?

What Stats Should My Gear Have?

I have a level 80 thief who was always a Berserker (Power/Precision/Crit Dmg) thief up until recently. My armor, weapons & accessories were all Berserker.

The problem was, I was dying a lot in WvW and Fractals, which I’ve been trying out recently. Because of this, I decided to spend 350k Karma in order to get myself a full armor set of “Soldiers” gear which is Power/Vitality/Toughness. Although I kept my accessories and weapons as Berserker.

So at this point I have Power/Toughness/Vitality armor, with Power/Precision/Crit Dmg weapons and accessories.

The problem now is, I’m not sure if I made the right choice or not. Having been reading around on various sites (including this forum) I’ve seen several people say that a thief should always run berserker gear due to them having high mobility and the ability to dodge out of the way of attacks, and pretty much not get hit at all. Well either I suck at dodging and need to learn to position myself better, or thieves desperately need the added toughness & vitality, because in WvW I’m being dropped in a matter of seconds. The same goes for PvE really, although it’s more ‘predictable’ than WvW so it’s often not as hard to stay alive.

One of the problems I had whilst using Berserker gear as a thief though is when I try to fight in close combat. I love to use Dagger/Dagger although in dungeons, fractals etc whenever I get close to something I often have to retreat after 2-3 seconds and just range them instead to prevent me getting 1 or 2 shotted. It’s a shame because I’d much rather play in close quarters using Dagger/Dagger, although I often feel forced to stand back at range and use my ranged weapons due to feeling too squishy in close quarters.

I was hoping that using P/V/T gear would solve this problem, although I’m already considering going back to Berserkers and just hoping I learn to play my class better, which is apparently a better idea than giving up any DPS, so I read.

I was hoping you guys could shed some light on this for me, and point me in the right direction. Will I be fine using berserkers for PvE & WvW or will I be better off using the new P/V/T gear I spent my karma on?

I absolutely don’t mind the fact that I’ve spent the karma already though, I won’t feel it’s been wasted, so please don’t let that play a part in any reply given. If the best option would be to go back to Berserker armor, then so be it, that’s fine, I’d just rather know!

Thanks guys.

Pow/Vit/Toughness - Where Can I Get This?

As written above – there’s a couple of sources.
If You have karma already, You should be mostly looking on temples – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_armor here You can find full list of every temple armor. Check it for Your type of armor, for stats and try to get open temples on some servers to get it (I believe You can have full soldier’s equipment this way, though I’m not exactly sure).
The dungeons could be another way for getting the missing parts (if they are somehow). Also WvW – You can exchange badges of honor for Invader’s equipment which gives exactly the same stats as Soldier’s.
AND, what is not written in the post above – You can get it from TP. You just have to look for “Sentinel’s” set. It’s quite new (from some udpate on living story) – but it’s there. It’s pretty expensive atm, but it’s surely one way of getting it

Cheers.

I noticed that Sentinel’s has pow/tough/vit although it seems different to Soldier’s because the Power on it isn’t it’s primary stat so it’s not as high as it would be on a piece of Soldier’s gear.

Hey, thanks for that info. When you say each set is missing a part (legs for medium Etc) does that mean I’d have to get them from somewhere else or are they just not available at all? I am using medium armour.

I’m looking to get some gear with Power/Vitality/Toughness (Soldier). Although having been searching on the Trading Post for days now, I can’t seem to find anything with the “Soldier” prefix.

I DO have 350k Karma saved up though, so if I’m able to get P/V/T gear that way, I’d appreciate knowing.

Thanks guys.

Berserker Gear - Should I Carry On Using It?

in Thief

My thief is level 80, and I have his traits set exactly the way I want, so there’s no problem in that regard. The problem is coming from my gear. I currently have:

Armour – Berserker with Ruby Orbs

Weapons (Dagger/Dagger & Pistol/Pistol) – Berserker with Sigil of Force & Sigil of Accuracy

Accessories, Rings etc – Berserker with Exquisite Ruby Jewels

Obviously this is a very glass cannon setup, although it has done me well for a lot of the game. I basically just had to learn to dodge, and found that I could survive even with Berserker gear.

The problem now though is that I have started trying a lot harder things out in game such as WvWvW and Fractals etc. In Fractals I am often getting one shotted and it’s making me look stupid to be honest. In WvWvW I find it hard enough staying alive against 1 player, let alone a mob, with Berserker gear.

I’m therefore just wondering if I should change to some other type of gear, perhaps with Toughness and/or Vitality. It’s just that every stat on Berserker gear is so appealing, and seems absolutely perfect for a Thief, so I’ve been less inclined to want to change as I don’t really want to give up on the Pow/Pre/Crit Dmg from Berserker gear. Price isn’t an issue really, so I’m open to any suggestions.

Whilst it IS nice seeing big numbers from your high DPS, and seeing things die in a matter of seconds, I just feel that perhaps I’m neglecting my defense by using Berserker gear and wanted to know what the general opinion was on what type of gear to use for Thief.

What do you guys suggest? Thanks.

Exotic Berserker Back Piece?

The only exotic back piece I currently know of is the Guild Assassin Backpack (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Assassin_Backpack).

I was just wondering if there is any other exotic back piece in the game with berserker stats, that I could buy with karma or something.

Thanks guys.
