How to obtain Ascended Armor?

Velarian.6290

1) dont know about pvp
2)Yes, you can get all those materials from silverwaste, but only if you also do chest farm, i dont know if they are still going on
3) you can buy recipes for some stat combinations very cheap on the trading post, below one silver. you can than change stats in the mystic forge to the one you want.

besides dropping from fractals, tequatl and triple trouble have a chance to drop ascended armor and weapon boxes, too.

How did you get your ascended gear?

I crafted three complete armor sets, one for each weight class. In my 2200 hours of game time i got 3 ascended armor and 2 weapon boxes, ran over 700 fractals, did frac level 50 regularly pre hot. medium armor was the cheapest with around 400 to 500g i guess and light the most expensive at around 900 to 1000g. farmed for all of it over time and made one piece after another.

a tip if u r going for viper: dont build it directly. go for something else and use the mystic forge to convert it to viper stats with exotic viper inscriptions. much less gold to spend.

but i am suprised how expensive ascended armor crafting got recently. i only had to craft some weapons for the new specs and trying out some new stuff and it felt much more expensive. im happy that im set on the armor side and can wait to get drops slowly to build up my secondary chars.

i know that they are rarer than ectos, but that they count as rare, so yellow and above salvage kits have a higher rate of recovering them is what i had in my mind.

but reading the statement about BLSK im not so sure anymore. maybe pure randomeness. dont have that much of them anymore so i didnt want to try

I think its very difficult to compare player numbers pre and post hot. pre hot everyone was running around in silverwastes, a small and most importantly SINGLE map, so you had a lot of instances of that. and dungeon groups that only consisted of 5 people. now you have 4 new extremely big zones, maybe 4 times as kittenilverwastes. and i for myself dont have a problem finding an organized one if i really want to.

i still think that raising the difficulty was not a decision they made because they felt like it would fit the spirit of their game more.
i think they asked a lot of players new to the game or players who left about what they are seeing could be improved or why they left and what their main impressions are.

and all what i heard from the people i knew that quit was: no reason to join a guild because you could solo nearly every content in the game or do it in semi organized groups. nothing really left to do after hitting 80 and getting exo armor. nothing to work for. only gold grind in a massive way to get a single skin. fashion wars 2.

and i know a lot of people who quit and came back for hot and now see some of their concerns being addressed. and the majority of people i speak to are pleased with the new difficulty of the maps and feel like they have to grow for the challenge.

sure thats always individual points of view, as is yours and mine. only time will tell if it was a good decision or not, but all i say is that i could see them going in the right direction, for me they are.

and to the mmo discussion: all i say is that i can understand people that look for things like needing to organize a large group of people to succeed if you want to progress in a mmo game. maybe you are not, and thats fine. i will say again, you are still not forced to participate in high scale organization if you dont want to, but you loose out on some shinies. maybe its not perfect, thats true. but you can still do exactly the same things as before and have even more options now, but are unable to get everything as a single player. i think that is not a bad thing.

to make it clear, i dont think they did everything right. as i mentioned before, the wvw part of guid halls is absurd and a big reason why borderlands are so empty right now. i also think that at least 2 difficulties for the raids would have been a good idea. one normal one where you can grind out your ascended items and one expert one with the legendary armor drops etc for ingame prestige. this way you could experience the story and the cinematic of the fights even as a casual gamer. as it is now, you really have to be dedicated and willing to invest a lot of time and gold to succeed. not necessarily bad, but i think splitting rewards and diffculty in different levels would have been a much much better idea to keep players interested and invested in this game.

as it is now you dont have to know anything about your class or this game to succed in open world, and only minor knowledge to clear dungeons and maybe decent knowledge to clear high level fracs… not even that if u follow guides. but with hot u suddenly out of nowhere have to get a feel for what you are doing. a learning curve whould have been nice. i cant really see a change in difficulty over the 4 new maps. ok, TD meta is very hard and i havent succeeded yet, and it frustrates me that even with 100 ppl in ts organized you cant be sure to succeed, even if u understand the mechanics well. thats harsh, especially because you need it for shinies. oh and i hate the low amount of AP they gave out with hot, too.

but in the end i like the direction in which this leads and im excited for the things going to happen.

sincerely

Finally got it done!

phalanx warri and herald rev, both bersi.

condi warri due to dnt’s 2nd raid boss vid will become the nxt big thing i guess, especially against big hitbox enemys.

at least one chronomancer is mandatory.

druid is also important, but as i understood its out in the open if you need a full dedicated support, or maybe a support/tank is the way to go, or support/condi.

i would say condi engi, too, but since you dont have one thats not an option.

also you have to consider that most players who are interested in raids have bersi stats on their characters. so in my experience the bersi revs/phalanx warri spots are mostly taken, but as i can see it you always have multiple of them, so there is definitely a need.

in the end if u want to do gear only one take a condi. condi food and materials for viper are very expensive right now, but i think its the best way to find groups quickly. as its new and shiny and not well known YET i would suggest condi bersi. and a link to the dnt vid im referring to.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdthSNbkaJU

for easier viewability: the dnt grp consists of 2 phalanx bersi wars, 1 condi war, 2 herald revs, 2 tempest, 1 druid as dedicated healer and 1 scrapper as a tank.

i think their raid vids will as usual become the standart thing everyone will try so its a good start to prepare

Hey Dejavu, correct me if im wrong, but as far as i understood you liked this game for it’s easy accessability and that it didn’t need a coordination and/or communication between players in a scale that other mmo’s require to progress.

That is a valid point.

But i think it is also a valid point to expect something like that out of a mmo game and a lot of people i know have quit gw2 because it lacked content requiring good coordination and team effort.

When i started gw like a year ago i was very surprised that you didn’t need a guild at all to progress even in the most diffcult contents provided in the game. the only reason to look for a guild was to socialize. In every other mmo i knew it was a requirement, if you enjoyed the game and wanted to progress you had to look for a guild and socialized because of that after some time.

I think it is a good and healthy discussion to be had here. but what it comes down to are pure numbers and cash. we cant know how many people have quit because they didnt have to invest anything in this game to get somewhere. before the expansion was announced i recognized a drop of players over time. almost every guild i knew was getting emptier and emptier because there was “nothing to do”.

sure it may be nice to come back once a month and see what is going on, checking a dungeon or two. but i think for a company its much healthier to keep their players invested, and for that a guild is a good starting point. to give players a reason to join a guild besides their own decision of wanting so is a good idea to keep peple playing regularly.

sure, you may have spent a lot of money on this game even if u didnt play that much. but what is your guess, how many people dont spend anything, because they think its not worth their money when they dont spend so much time playing the game?

i think that the difficulty we experience is an economic decision, maybe not purely but mainly. and i think its the correct one. Maybe its impossible to change a game on that big of a scale so late in its running time, only time will tell.

And one more point. I think you are a little bit harsh in your conclusion. this game is still very casual friendly. you dont have a gear teadmill where your old gear is useless after some month. the gear you have worked for will still be at the same quality even month after you come back after a break.

you still can play most of the content alone or in small groups or in larger PuG groups. All of the personal story is completely solo-able. you can get over all maps alone. you only have to team up with 2 or 3 people for the hardest hero challenges.

and now besides gold you have something else to farm for on maps, something people always asked after, with all the specialiastion acchievemtn weapons and armor sets.

your elite specs can be unlocked in a matter of some hours if you know the maps.

all in all i think its still a big gap to games like swtor, wow, conan etc.

again, dont take this as an offense please, but i think you are disappointed because this game is not anymore what you grew up liking. but may i suggest asking youurself that maybe what you liked in the game is not healthy for a game as a whole but only suited ur needs of a relaxing game after taking a break from more serious games where you invested more? is it so wrong that people would LIKE to invest into gw2 what you invest into other games because they like its style, its lore, its combat but never got a reason to get invested?
EDIT: Im just now realizing that a lot of your anger and disappointment comes from guild halls. as i can see that taking away bonuses you have worked for is not a nice thing i have to say the bonuses guilds give are so small that they are hardly noticeable and only there to give people at least SOMETHING to work for. same with ascended armor for example. +10% mf, some minor random buffs etc…. is that REALLY the reason why you are so upset? thats why ive addressed other points in my post since i cant see why that could be more than a minor side point.

if you were engaged into wvw i could see that as a much more valid point, because a lot of functionality has been gated behind a gild hall grind. THATS something to be kittened about. also i feel the arena should be much cheaper, but its not that expensive as it is. that all these small things, decorations, minor buffs, qol improvements and skins are expensive as hell dont bother me at all. i dont need em and when i have them after some month or years with my guild yeah its nice… we have accomplished something together. but are they… neccesary? surely not.

i think a lot of people havent noticed that under the platform of the boss there are more pods and preservers. i have never seen a map destryoing those and my guess is that if you do that much less normal mobs would spawn, maybe none. the thing is: with the circling tactic you dont have to do that because it works and nearly no attempt i was doing in the last 2 weeks was failing. maybe it would work to split the circling zerg in two parts, one up and one down… but again, why try to fix something that isnt broken.

Forums Filled With Complaining

Your complaining about complaining and I’m complaining about your complaining about the complaining on the forums.

Nobody complain about my complaining.

I’m not complaining about your complaining about complaining about complaining on the forums. But i want to point out that you are a part of the problem here! Stop the spiral of complaints and say something constructive! Like… You are using nice grammar dude. Or make a point about the nice weather for the end of november.

Anyway, back to the topic.
I can totally understand the people who are complaining. The expansion brought a lot of systems and mechanics and a level of difficulty found nowhere else in the game. Even open map combat and events are often at old fractal 40-50 difficulty.

For myself i have to say i welcome these changes as i got bored by now with the old content and felt like there is no use for playing intensly at all in the game, let alone it’s nice combat mechanics you nearly never had to use effectively. only if u were pushing for optimal dungeon speed runs, or 1 manning dungeons or fractals u really had to know your class in and out.

In the other numerous mmos i played it was more of a learning curve, when u wanted to progress you had to get better over time, not like it is now where everything is easy and hot drops the hammer then.

maybe its also about customer numbers. before exp announcement ive seen far less people over time, nearly all guilds where dying out except some really big ones. maybe anet felt like they had to try a new direction to not let this game die.

the free to play offensive would make another point for that. they tried hard to make gw2 a very casual experience with nearly nothing to work for or no reason to improve your skill. Some people liked that, but a lot of people left because of that. So i think it is harsh to blame anet for trying something different. it all comes down to numbers, and only time will tell if it is worth for anet as a company or not. if not im sure they will tune down new content.

and a note regarding ascended and/or legendary equipment: u dont need ascended armor for raids. ascended trinkets and weapons are reasonable to come by. ascended armor however is needed for high level fractal play.

and ascended armor is not neglected by legendary armor. i only use ascended weapons and feel no need to craft myself a legendary. to much money/time to invest for that. also i like to play different armor classes, i have my bersi heavy set, condi medium set and support light set.

also you have to see that changing stats isnt as useful as it sounds, because most of the time you have to change runes for a new build anyway, and depending on a set this can cost as much as 60gold if u r using str runes. so swapping around all the time is just a thing if u dont optimize your equipment anyway, because else you would have to pay a lot. sure, less than making a new set, but changing your playsyle from bersi to condi etc each week will be a lot of money you throw down the toilet.

i have to admit i was shocked HOW expensve ascended crafting has now become. i think its due to a lot of old players who quit are coming back and now are crafting their ascended, bringing prices up. and of course guild halls, needing nearly all the mats in the game. iron for close to 3s? thats much wow oh and legendary crafting needing a lot of ascended mats, too.

but that will settle down, and to be honest its no surprise at all that raids are supposed to be beaten in ascended gear. that was stated clearly time after time after time well in advance. if you are not now starting playing the game you had more than enough time to acquire ascended gear relatively cheap compared to now. sure, thats not a perfect solution. BUT ascended is best-in-slot gear. and for that it was a little bit too easy to obtain anyway. for a full set it is about 1000g now i think. you can get handily about 10g per hour if you concentrate on earning gold, even more. so thats 100 hours of gameplay. if u play 1 hour a day, thats 3 months. i think that is fair.

sorry for the long text and if u got so far, thank you very much

Except, where other classes get that mystical 9-15k (I have never seen that on my engi with flame-thrower…), we can get both the 4k of burning and the (not-moving) 5k on torment… then target moves and suddenly we can see ticks of 9-13k with torment alone. Thus that range is more than covered.

Uhmn… you are not supposed to sit on flamethrower. Condi dps engi has one of the most complex skill rotations. Basically you have to keep 8 skills over 5 weaponsets and 2 tollbelt skills on cooldown with some fillers to do max dps.

You have to change maps or change character to get rid of it

Change map as in, go from Fireheart Rise to Snowden Rift, not another instance of Fireheart Rise.

If it was the last thing you did with the Character when you logged out, the “progess to DR” is saved in my experience. So playing a map for 3 hours till DR hits, playing another char the next day, changing back to the FR char again the day after that your DR or your Progress to it is still the same till you go to another map and do something different.

stack +exp food and boosters for laurels and go slay creatures and do a little bit of questing. levels will come fast.

edit: you can easily do about 3-5 levels an hour with that method, even more in good spots. keep your equipment up to date to kill fast and stay in areas at your level range to get more exp per kill. ofc some cheap crafting doesnt hurt.

on the other hand. if u are burnt out on levelling…. dont do it! go explore some HoT maps. do fractals or dungeons. run a world boss farm or too. in no time you will think: aaah… leveling… that was fun!

Suggestion: Ascended Mats Drop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Velarian.6290

is it really impossible to accept that there might be a thing in the game that you could only acchieve with a massive investment in time and/or money? let alone the fact that for mmo’s its vital to give even hardcore players long term goals. and consider that there is no advantage connected to them.

if you are able to invest a lot of time into something to get better at it, wouldn’t you be glad to be able to show people: hey, i earned this with my passion for what i do? wouldn’t you be a bit dissapointed if someone comes along accomplishing the same thing with much less effort? if someone decides that playing a game is his thing, than be happy for them and accept that they have earned what they have worked for. hey, they could have learned playing an instrument or speaking multiple languages in that time, getting supposedly much more out of it. but hey.

it’s good to have long term goals for players. hardcore players can accomplish them in a few months, casuals in a year or two. nothing bad at all about that.

i play a lot and i am not planning to get a legendary at all. i dont like the skins enough to invest so much time into them. i dont feel bad about that at all.

1. No there isn’t something you can do with it. Got to discard it.
2. The main income with your first char comes from harvesting nodes and breaking down loot, selling all the material u get. Take a look at your bank and sell all the materials u are hording, that should be some gold or more. You can try to run dungeons for around 2 gold per run, but most of the time sub 80s are not welcome in dungeon run party, but from time to time they dont bother or its an all sub 80 party.

There is no taunt mechanic in this game, but mobs go often after the enemy with the highest toughness, so a bear or another tanky pet often gets the hits, but never guaranteed.

We literally get a taunt mechanic with HoT, so… uh, there is a taunt mechanic in this game^^

As for your questions, OP: I agree with the staff ele recommendation. It’s a fun and relatively easy class to play (with power/toughness/vitality gear for minimum squishiness). Necro would be my second recommendation, though for best DPS you’ll need to go toe to toe with enemies. You have a second health pool though, so there’s that for survivability.

what u want to say is there is going to be a taunt mechanic in the game. and all we have seen is a taunt for some seconds. nothing remotely comparable to taunt mechanics in other big mmos so don’t confuse newcomers :p

the most useful advice i can give a new player is not which class to play, but more to keep an eye at your equipment. keep it updated every 5 or 10 levels, go for power and vit gear and get those runes inside your armor. preferably 6 different ones with +10 power each. blue or green equipment and green runes are very cheap to get, u dont have to be a veteran to outfit your chars.

a.) Best long range damage is indeed staff ele. survivability is good.

b.) All open world content is equally easy with every class. Maybe a tid bit easier with ranger, necro or warrior. some say thief due to easy accessible stealth. U can’t go wrong there. If u look for soloing dungeons or fractals i am not experienced enough at that to give a suggestion, but ive heard warriors are good all around.

Mordrem Event: Rewards after Disconnect

Velarian.6290

Hello,

I asked the head of the GW2 Design Team about whether we would be making changes and rerunning it, extending it, or repeating it as it currently is designed. At this time, we are not going to extend the event, nor do we have plans at this time to repeat it, either amended or in its current form.

The Mordrem Invasion event will run through its allotted time. It ends at 9:00 AM tomorrow, Monday. As explained in my earlier thread, no changes will be made to the event beyond the fixes that were made on Thursday and, of course, the distribution of earned rewards for those who were impacted by that bug. (The bug ran from 9:00 AM until about 4:00 PM Pacific time. If you earned blooms during that period but did not receive them or received fewer than the intended amount, they will be sent to you via in-game mail. NPCs will remain in place — particularly in the Priory.

I hope this info is helpful to you. And thanks to those of you who provided constructive suggestions about the event — your thoughts are very appreciated. What’s constructive: “Rewards might be [this]” or “I like the rewards in [that] and suggest you adopt that system for this sort of event.” What’s not constructive: “Rewards are bad” (with absolutely no suggestions for how they might be improved).

I think you guys get it, and I understand that some of you are pretty “hot under the collar” about the event. But please try to give us ideas we can work with — that’s to everyone’s benefit.

Soo… as far as i understand it, people getting no rewards at all after being disconnected even if they stacked up event buff afterwards won’t get anything? this bug lasted through the whole event. Even if i just experienced that once i think thats a bit unfair.

To hop on the wagon of complaining customers:

My biggest issue with this event this that for max rewards you have to get 20 stacks of the defender buff.
This means that u HAVE to tag events and then move on, not helping to complete it.
This is such a bad design decission.
Arenanet really really shouldnt ENCOURAGE such a behaviour.

Tbh im not that upset about the amount of blossoms you get… 35 per map means over 4 days doing a full circle once u get 420 (i just realize… that would explain a lot! the dev doing this likes… flowers.. a lot it seems?!) and then u have to do 2 more to get a tonic… since it would be awfull if everyone would be running around with a halo that seems about right to me.

All the new stuff i tested feels… average at best, dont know if i will even use it. and why do people think guild wars 2 is f2p? ok, now the base game is, but it was always b2p (buy to play) and that they charge 50 bucks after 3 years with lots of free content for a lot of more content, including future living story upgrades i can hardly see as greedy or forcing you to buy anything. as numerous people have stated: pay to win is if u have to pay money to be able to compete with other players around. and even if the new specs would be so op you couldnt go around them, i would be totally ok with that. heck, im glad if i can get like a week of entertainment out of most actual games. why do people want to get everything for free all the time? it takes a lot of work and money to make and keep running a game like this.

and on the other hand sometimes the newbs dont make it easy for the vets, too. once we ran asc path 3 with 3 guildies and 2 randoms, both around 1k ap. the last boss bugged out, or more correct the npc making the bubble didnt show up so we wiped like 3 times. a guildy of mine ran the 4th time straight into the boss without wating for the grp, without a special reason. one random tried to kick him instantly and the other supported him. we tried again 2 times normally and after that they tried to kick him again. all the time i was trying to explain that the npc was bugged out (didn’t know then that from time to time he likes to lie dead at the first burrow) but they didnt want to notice that and insisted that we were doing something wrong. finally we kicked one of them, which lead the other person to say that he “dont want to participate in such a behaviour” and left. 20 mins later i got a message in which he said he reportet all of us.

so, it goes both ways

well i remember once being dissapointed because i used an innocent looking portal out in the nowhere expecting to get portet to like 3 champs at once or on the top of a mountain with no chance to survive and in the end i got a jp chest for free man those mesmers really stepped up their trolling game!

on the other hand when the only warrior in the grp leaves because you suggest maybe its a good idea to go ps, especially since he is allready using greatsword, mind me, in a friendly way of course, im also wondering oO and from time to time you see a 20k ap+ player saying sry guys, fist time doing this path and alone for that its worth it

can’t say i have never experienced sth like op but in general i dont have any problems like op.

but one problem i have from time to time with xp and/or zerk grps is that some of them use all the speed run tactics and its not enough to know the typical skips and for example the thief expects everyone to know when exactly his blinding power etc is coming, leaving outraged after first attempt fails.

in my eyes its a bit much to expect a pug to know “all” the tricks and timings and monstly it takes much longer because someone kittens up and it would be much faster doing the “normal” fast run strats.
but a scenario like that occurs only once a week or sth. im just staying away from those exp 7k+ap runs for now and run the normal ones with the occasional 600ap guy to who you have to explain whats going on but all in all much smoother and friendlier

well and pls dont take that as an offense, but this game isnt about only dps. also team support and active defenses. the only thing neglected is healing because of so high dmg spikes that healing outside of your own capabilitys hardly makes a difference at all. and im sure down state has sth to say to this topic, too. people only talking about dps only shows that they dont know what they r talking about. good and proper ccs are also vital to easy runs

and i bet like 100g that in a casual grp u wont be able to tell the difference between lioke 12k or 15k dps. sure, if everyone does that 3k dps more it IS a difference, but even then its not that big. the real problem is people picking up that meta stuff and thinking its the be all and end all. but no one is able to stop ignorance of people so let them do what they want, avoid them and go on. well. nothing new here, too ;:D

and here i am thinking it was common knowledge by now that the problem with necros wasnt their dps but lack of team support. people still try to prove necro dps isnt that bad? i thought the discussion had moved on :o oh and on people thinking every run has to be a speed run with optimal dps and team comp oh lol in a pug it hardly ever makes a difference if u pick up a thief or mes or a 2nd ele or whatever. maybe like + – 5 mins on a complete fractal run if everyone knows what to do and their class but whatever :o( only a decent guard really makes u feel a difference but with decent blind rotations even that isnt that big of a deal.

i really dont get why people are so eager at this topic. never had a problem finding grps and ignoring those meta speed run lfgs. sure sometimes there are people in there sub 1k ap with crazy builds and no dmg at all but if its only 1 theres no problem

well when you experience a personal loss its not uncommon to not be able to focus on trivial things like in game economy or keeping household when after some time a sudden change of the situation occurs, for example something you have waited for a long long time gets finally announced u have a reason to go back to normal operate mode. not that uncommon at all. as your friend said: enjoy it. and if ur able to dont forget about it if you ever come in a similiar situation

Fixed a client crash that occurred when players stopped spectating rangers in PvP.

So now i get why everyone hates rangers! o.O
Even the game hates them.

But on a more serious note, how happens a bug like this?

Higher Level Fractal Group Makeup

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Velarian.6290

Part 1: You don’t need a certain group setup to beat any fractal level. don’t let you tell otherwise. guardians are always helpful, but also mesmers and even necros. we beat a lvl 50 fractal some days ago with 3 warriors and 2 necros with a guild group, took a bit longer than in a better setup but still doable.

Part 2: See above. Is it better to just have 1 Warrior and 1 Guardian instead of 2 Warriors? Certainly. Are you still able to beat every Fractal with 2 Warriors? Certainly.

On a side note: having the right spec and armor setup is really important. having 2 or more people running around in tanky gear really slows down a run significantly. especially in high level fractals defensive stats dont matter that much. having a high dps output makes fights much easier then being able to live through 1 more hit.

yes sure i get that, my point is that i think it is unclear in the interface. i asked in my guild an everyone thought it was 10% for insta sells, 15% in total for listing. sure, if u pay attention it is easy to see but not instantenously obvious by looking at the interface.

Silverwastes. 80g a day you say? Uhhh...

I have farmed Silverwastes a lot and my experience is I get around 10g an hour, chest farm or events doenst make a big difference. + – 3 gold if ur lucky or not. IF ur lucky chest farm can easily skyrocket to 20g an hour, but not for me on average. in my eyes its also really important to do the maze. if u farm like 2 extra keys in the time its open and get 200/200 its like an extra gold or 2 from the 3 guaranteed rares and champion bags extra. all in all the best time/money thing ive found in this game, besides farming trick or treat bags, but that is killing my brain. chestfarm, too, but a round or two every other day i can endure
