Why does every one think “female clothing” = “skimpy, highly sexualised”. We aren’t asking for half naked Asura, we are asking not to wear male clothing.
the breast for asura were not placed on the females due to a short child like race or child looking race with breast . type thing. and Charr lore wise do have breast they are multi breast like Cats fill out only when pregnant there or if want to get that multi breast to work with armor. have the top set of breast be the main pair and thus bigish middle pair probly slightly smaller and the third pair or what ever be flat aginst the chest or belly. OR do what the artist of charr did in designing I think she or he said “they will have multi breast in model or none at all” and thus we get the flat chest model.
Umm, we are talking about clothes not breasts.
See an Asuran in a dress, unfortunately one of the few dresses and Asuran can wear. This is what we are talking about. (Same goes for Charr)
This also proves that female Asuran can wear dresses. Anet is just being lazy.
I’m just throwing this topic into the ring again, because it’s something that bothers me immensely and with the expansion pack coming out, I’d like to raise this point.
It would be really nice if you guys over there at ArenaNet took the time to give female Asura feminine sets of armor instead of giving us the male options. The Asura females now have incredibly feminine hairstyles, but we’re stuck with such masculine options for clothing.
I’m not asking for tons of dresses and what have you, but it would be nice if we had the same options the other female’s in other races have. I’m sure many Charr females may feel the same.
I think today, I was so disheartened by the fact that the Shadow Assassin Outfit, which is absolutely adorable on other races, was the male version for us female Asura. Why? Is it really that time consuming to create a shrunken version for the females? Why not make the males wear feminine clothes then?
At the end of the day, I’d really just like more options that don’t make me look like a male with a female hairstyle.
So many people have argued that the race is androgynous, thus why does this matter, right? But that’s a cop out at the end of the day… The fact that this has indeed been brought up so many times before, especially when we had the race-based forums, shows that this is something that many of us female Asura-players would like to see.
Just spending my two cents.
There are a few “old timers” guilds that I know that move from game to game. Minimum age requirement to join was 40. Least it was when I was invited to join a decade ago. I politely declined (given I was already in an incredible guild and still am.)
Birthday #56 coming in a few months. And I’m happy to report I’m young compared to many folks I’ve played with, including an 80 year old gentleman who is still keeping up with his grandkids online, and a lot of folks in their mid to late 60s.
One of the things that I have held as true for decades is that maturity and chronological age have nothing to do with each other. Some of the best folks I’ve enjoyed playing with were in their teens and 20s. And some of the worst offenders in some of the worst community games were mid-30s to mid-40s (e.g. so called “adults”.)
Informal surveys about 7 years ago put the median age range of a MMO player at about 35. I’m sure a lot depends on the particular MMO being surveyed.
@Tazmin, if you’re really interested in finding a good guild within a particular age range, you can always head over to the guilds forum and try your luck there:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds
Good luck and happy gaming!
I am 20 but not in a guild… Wait, why am I posting this? Ah well… (lonely)
The founder of the guild I played with in WoW died back in 2007… he was 60 years old at the time, but knowing him (I knew him for about 10 years before we started in WoW), if he was still alive, he would still be playing today.
And in GW2 I’m member of a rather large multi game guild directed at the older players, minimun age is 25, there are member right into their 60’s, and I know of at least one other similar big guild in the server.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
I think peoples surprise about higher age in MMO’s is do to the fact they forget something very important. The first MMO’s or MMO style games came out in early 80’s and 90’s. Now if a person played and loved a game in say 1999 with Everquest, and they were maybe 15, they would now be 29. Some may have played back then at higher ages, so really we have a pretty large player base in many MMO’s of 30+ aged people. They didn’t simply stop at their first mmo, they may have moved on to different games one after another. And just because they aged doesn’t mean they can’t play those MMO’s anymore.
Try not to take numbers from forums though, as they do not represent a large amount of the playerbase. I know people in their teens to 50’s who still play MMO’s. I’m not able to back this up by facts as I don’t feel like doing the research at the moment, but I would say a large amount of MMO players are between 25-38. That a large number of 13-19 year olds migrate to certain genres, and the rest fan out. And the players who are 20-35 right now will be the 40+’s in future MMO’s
My birthday is this month.. and I can say I sure do feel old, even if I’m not as old as some, I feel so because of my experiences. MMO’s really help us feel young again, especially those of us who had no chance to really have a childhood.

Not sure if I’m asking this in the right section but hey ho.
So curiosity got the better of me and I thought I would ask on here.
I was wondering how many of you out there are in the older age range, ie 30 and above, and also how many are still looking for a guild to join that has a majority of older players? You really think the forums are going to give you any kind of real meaningful answers… it represents like>1% of the player base.
Anyhow not even sure why your asking such things, why so curious about peoples ages – If your enjoying the game then the age of those either inside or outside of guild shouldn’t make any difference.
No I don’t think that I’m going to get a true representation, however it is nice to know that there are more gamers out there in my age range.
I understand age is not that important, but it does have some impact on the gameplay depending on the age of the people you game with, as I’m sure people will have had experience with.
Oh and I’m not asking people to tell me their actual age, just their age range.
We have a lot of older people in my guild. I’m 51. My wife plays too (she’s about my age). A few people in the guild are older than me, most are younger. Several people in their 20s as well. It’s a pretty good mix of ages…but a lot more older people than most would think.
Older range is 30 plus?
Looks like logans run came true..

OP: Well sonny, I can remember back when we used to have to walk 12 miles, thru driving snow, uphill; just to play a computer game and we were thankful.
Why you young whipper snapper…
My guild, which has 600+ members,
I thought the max size of a guild in GW2 is 500?
Anyway, the youngest active member of my guild is over 21. Most of our members range from 35-50 yrs.
You are right, we are split into three separate guilds because of that cap. We still consider ourselves one guild and have a web site where we can still pretend we are all together. LOL
No issues here, try formatting your hard drive or you can buy new computers online.
Just avoid cursed shore for now
If you don’t have anything constructive to say why even post this idiotic nonsense.

Very much appreciated DevonCarver (and the rest of the team ofcourse). Looking forward to go back to Orr again without constant error reports.
The exchange rate changes constantly. I think it’s updated every 3 minutes or so, based on the volume of transactions in each direction.
You can see a graph here which shows how the exchange rate changes: https://www.gw2spidy.com/gem
Over a long time the amount of gold you will get for your gems will almost certainly go up (because more people buy gems with gold than gold with gems). Over a short time it fluctuates wildly based on a whole variety of factors. Probably the most consistent of those is how many people are online and what’s on offer in the gem store.
So the best time to buy gold with gems is probably peak time on a day when they’ve just released popular items in the gem store. New releases are usually on a Tuesday, but how popular they’ll be is hard to predict.
As for whether it’s worth it that’s up to you. Some people say it’s the best way to make gold because even at minimum wage (in most Western countries) you’ll earn more per hour than you could farming gold. For me that’s outweighed by a number of factors such as having lots of other uses for real life money and being able to get gold essentially free while I’m doing things I find fun in-game.
At the moment the exchange rate has almost reached a point where I might consider it worthwhile for certain items (it’s about £12 for 250g right now), based on what I’d be willing to spend in a cash shop for the same items. But not quite.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I read it a lot in the latest posts, how players don’t like to group with others, and how grouping makes a game non-casual. I think for a lot of people (even on this thread) translate casual into “getting carried”. There is a reason they like the open world so much, because they can hide behind a tag and a mass of people and just auto attack and get the same rewards as those who actually put the effort. It’s sad really, because those are the kind of players who make events fail.
It’s hard to eliminate those players without using instanced content, but maybe Anet will find a way someday.
Anet give it´s best to eliminate players like me with raids if you mean that being carried equals not being meta and rotation skilled with any other class in GW2. Just give it time, I´ll probably disappear from GW2 if a suitable alternative appears and Anet is still bent on doing so.
I don´t agree with people that want to be automatically grouped for content. But I can understand if someone wants to be part of the tidal wave that is an open world event instead of being an only meta equipment is useful and means not getting carried person.
Sorry if that sounded a little bit cynical and rude, but the wording here rubbed me the wrong way. Eliminate players from a game, wow.
A little bit off topic, but in my mind anyone who refuses to revive a fallen player if there is no event areound where the dead upscale is scum in this question, plain and simple. It is not that it costs you something, and it saves the poor guy or girl lying there a few silvers.
And yes, low level fractals were always casual. Everyone can do a for example lvl 1 fractal if only one person in his group has ever done it and knows how it works.
There was a time when stopping to rez was encouraged and we even had a daily for it.
Being left to die wile people walk buy is a lot more common now.
This forum is mad as a box of frogs.
Oh smilies! Not similies. My bad. Sawwy!
Wiki search “emoticons” and you’ll get all the ‘smilies’ you want from EU/NA and JP areas.
There’s literally hundreds more than the 6 you have there! Have fun on your adventure, I like looking at the JP smilies myself. They’ve very inventive.
is JP (japanese by the way.)
Europe and North America write their emoticons on the side, all JP ones are upright.
My personal favourtie is the JP one for a ranger or firing an arrow…
(>^.^)>D >>>————>
I also love the table flip one! It won’t work here, so it’ll leave it out, but I’m sure you’ve seen it or can find it.
EU/NA emoticons look so simplistic in comparison, imo!

So apart from a few guys who would defend the game even if they were the only ones left playing it.
Shall we turn this thread around a little and suggest ways things can improve?
Legendary armour available in other ways? Maybe replace masteries with Legendary trees? Possible to do them through multiple methods including dailies?
Bring back old wvw maps, have new one as a second EB?
Reduce grind time on masteries?

i am not against long term goals im against what anet has stated themselves locking players out of any way to obtain long term or otherwise the new best in slot gear legendary Armour.. Anet are fully aware the bulk of the player base will never be able for what ever reason to do raids, but none the less chose to invalidate there hared worked for ascended gear and are adding legendary Armour.Yes people will come on here and claim that when that new purple gear is linked in LA that it dont invalidate nothing as the stats are the same.bullkitten
So, the long-term nature doesn’t bother you, but the fact that you either cannot or will not do raids does. Fair enough. It’s not the existence of L. Armor that bothers you, it’s that you don’t want to do the content it can be gained doing as of right now.
I cannot change that you will choose to feel that your Asc. gear will no longer be worth having. Yes, not worth having. That’s what a new gear tier in ann MMO usually means. When Wrath came out, the BC purples I was wearing were noticeably weaker than the first quest reward green items I got in Wrath.
So, yes, Asc. armor will then be a pile of crap to you because the new stuff will make its performance so under-strength. Meanwhile, I don’t really notice an increase in performance over Exotic when I add an Ascended armor piece, and would certainly not notice any improvement if I were to replace an Ascended piece with a Legendary piece.
Well, if you want to place so much value on a stat-switch feature that is worthless at the top tier of performance if you do not also switch runes, go right ahead. Enjoy your rage. I cannot help you.
Well, maybe I can, with a lesson from the game’s history. When Asc. was first announced, there was a firestorm that makes the anger over L. Armor in raids look like nothing at all. Only rings were available and only in Fractals. The complaints were so many that ANet made Asc. rings available by doing dailies, and the rest of Asc. came with other options to gain it. In fact, FotM only has an increased chance to drop Asc. Armor and Weapons, and iirc, only since HoT and at the higher levels.
So, maybe, instead of calling Anet liars and raging about the situation, you’d be better served to make a case for different L. Armor sets (different skins) gained via other means than raids. There’s at least precedent for that, and Anet is much less likely to dismiss that argument than they will be to dismiss name-calling. Good luck, whatever you decide.
I don’t really understand the issue tbh. Fractals is made casual friendly and 90% of the content is still relaxed open world. The only thing that isn’t casual atm is a single raid instance. A SINGLE instance, is it really worth crying about so much? 0_o
If you think this is about a single feature (raid) you will probably never understand the issues at all.
As for crying: Come on please – This is a game/entertainment… It may raise a brow/cause a smile here and there but tears? Most (grownups) reserve those kind of feelings for actual RL issues.
We used to be able to progress (slowly) towards any goal in whichever fashion we chose. This is no longer the case (with HoT expansion goals in mind). It’s really that simple!
I know a lot of people are fans of this new direction. That’s fine but please accept that your personal preference will not magically change mine.
Sure it would be easy to throw those €45 at HoT and (in my case) be bitter and disappointed about it, but why would I? My measly €’s will be better spent on indie dev’s that cater to my inefficient casual clowning about.
GW2 should be just fine as I am sure Anet will get massive income from this new crop of masterclass players.
I agree casual can mean limited play time, but I would add that it also means low stress or playing as you like.
By this, with myself as an example, I like to just relax when I play. Dungeons and pvp stress me, so I prefer to follow a train, follow world boss timers, wvw or explore/level up. If I wanted to play something more intense, honestly I would play an FPS or go back to commanding in Planetside 2.
My point a few posts up, was that doing most of these, you could reach your goal at your own pace. Be it a new gear set with runes, a new skin, a legendary etc. With ascended gear its time gated and the new current game style, you must do events and other rewards are locked behind game styles, raids especially.
I’ve seen people in this thread saying things like “im casual and I play 8 hours a night” and “I’m casual and this is mandatory”.
Newsflash, you aren’t casual. You are playing the game A LOT. Hell, almost as much as I used to play when hardcore raiding in WoW.
And if you are setting yourself insanely high goals in insanely short timescales. Again, not casual. You can do these things, it will just take a kitten ton more time to do it.
I’m working for my nightfury and the winter backpack. I play 1-3 hours a day if I’m lucky. I know and accept I won’t have them “rightthekittennow”, but I will get them.
We really need a new name for people with this horrific entitlement. I suggest “slackcore”.
Two points:
A. I don’t think you can find a post that says, “I’m a casual player, and I play 8 hours a night.” So this is a straw man argument at best. And even if you could…..
B. “Casual play” can also mean that you don’t like the need to LFG, join a Party, get on Team Speak or participate in coordinated Group events that require playing continuously for extended periods of time.
Casual play can mean that you can drop-in and drop-out of PvE, be afk to take care of family duties, get a snack, check on a football game, etc.
The HoT maps are not casual, if defined as such.
Edit: And, yes, I have 4,900 hours in the game and consider myself a “casual” player.

I wondered for weeks why I just didnt want to play any more, even though I love the gameplay and this thread has given me that answer. I can’t play as I want, as there is no reward in that.
This is basically the root of the issue and I think is what is missed by a lot of people. I love the new level design and think what they have done to innovate in the open world MMO space is amazing. The open world content is actually easier than Orr at release when we all had crap gear and packs of respawning mobs would chain CC you. What is different is now everything feels like it’s locked behind something else and you are not rewarded for just logging in and wandering around like you were in the base game.
The base game had a lot of challenging content in the form of jump puzzles, mini dungeons, world bosses and some world events. All of that content felt optional so they were mostly activities you did if you wanted to challenge yourself. You could always log in and find something interesting and set your own goals.
Now with collections and mastery points items and locations are locked behind very specific things. Here is some of the “challenging content” I am running into as a casual returning player.
1. Waiting 45 minutes for dragons stand to get going, trying to spam click join taxis and ending up with “world is full” with no way to get on another map for another 2 hours.
2. Getting DCed/crashing during a meta boss event and finding myself in a world with no progress.
3. Achievements that require events to fail in order to progress with no way to select a map thereby requiring begging other players to not complete a map.
4. Mastery points requiring gold medals in twitch based games with crappy camera angles.
5. A general push towards “event chains or bust” in relation to gaining experience needed for masteries which are needed for exploration.
Overall none of this would be as big of a deal if things were so much was not gated behind it all. In general my playstyle of logging on and exploring around makes me feel like I am not making progress and I feel much more pushed towards activities I don’t enjoy because if I don’t I won’t have a skill that lets me progress through some other area.
I bought HoT, and honestly, I spent months looking forward to it, the first few days no regrets, but once the dust settled I lost my way. I wondered for weeks why I just didnt want to play any more, even though I love the gameplay and this thread has given me that answer. I can’t play as I want, as there is no reward in that.
Before I could log in even if I only had an hour, and lets say I was farming torward a legendary. I could get that through gold pretty much, so you can do whatever you like to get to your goal, farm SW, world bosses, dungeons (found them too toxic community wise), wvw or eotm.
With raids and the current open world pve, this is simply not possible. The worst part of the games community has monopoly on the new progression, I won’t even attempt raids for this very reason. Insults and kicking of someone because they made a mistake, insecure plebs blaming others just isn’t my thing. Why the stories and events have worked, is because they were open, anyone and everyone joined, and the more the merrier. The toxic tower worked because people helped as opposed to it becoming elitist and non-inclusive to less skilled or casual players.
There is no log in and progress any more. There is no option to play as you like, and to the devs, I certainly do not need to get better at your game, I more than meet the skill requirements.
Raids should of worked through a match making system, balancing classes and stat choices to the content, and the event should of looked something like the opening events when you start a new character. Instead, we get elite mobs with some half decent mechanics that are just dps races and damage avoidance. Its just dungeon bosses basically.
Then there is the issue with stats. I discovered in open pve a nice semi tank semi damage spec that allows me to survive a lot during events but be able to burst mobs down quite quick(though damage is not sustainable), this isn’t viable in raids. All the gear I spent months farming, and the legendary, is not viable because you are not picked for raids unless meta. I don’t totally blame others for that, as they just want to progress themselves.
Ascended gear was the start of the decay sadly, time gated gear is utterly the worst idea ever brought in to this game. Even the method to change stats if far too expensive to do regular enough that you can play freely. It made casual take a back seat, it made new players fall behind, and now that is magnified even more so.
The idea of raids was a good one, most of us want it, but it has been executed very very badly. If I wanted to play with elitists farming half easy bosses for gear, I would of subbed back to WoW. Go back to why GW2 was better, for the option to progress however you want, and remove the time gate from ascended or make it cheaper/free to change stats.
Completely agree with the OP. I absolutely loved the original/core GW2, such fun and then HoT arrived and utterly shattered the fun part and made the game utterly frustrating for people with limited time and having to solo the content/story line. In fact, much of HoT is simply off-limits for me and if I could get my money back on this Xpac I would.
I can’t imagine what it will be like trying to progress through HoT once people move onto newer content. It’s very annoying that you cannot progress the story line without unlocking mastery skills which in turn requires hard to get XP. It’s a real shame that the game play has just gone.
With that said, I think visually HoT is stunning. It has a real sense of getting utterly lost in a deep jungle. It is often very difficult to get from A to B and there are many many places I have no idea how to reach. The music is also pretty cool and creates the appropriate atmosphere.
Finally, if your color blind it makes finding “things” on the map next to impossible in the Xpac. As such, it’s by luck that I end up where I need to be.
