Character causing mapwide lag

Verteiron.8734

We’re looking into the situation.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I hope you can give us some info about what’s causing this once you have it fixed; doubly so if it really does turn out to be unique to Seka!

Usually these really bizarre problems have the most interesting explanations. Looking forward to finding out about it!

"Target nearest" no longer confined

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

Another problem that’s new as of the patch is that destructible items seem to be prioritized over actual foes, even if they’re actively attacking you. I was out beating on centaurs, as one does, and every time I hit C I’d suddenly be attacking “Centaur target dummy”.

It also likes to target enemies that are out of range on the Z axis, particularly if they’re not targeting me or aren’t even aggro.

The “Target Nearest” functionality is completely broken right now.

P.S. I am still annoyed that the Chronicles of Narnia boxed sets all have The Magician’s Nephew as book 1 now, so I know how to hold a grudge over the re-ordering of a story.

You’re kidding! That’s a travesty. The whole point is to be amazed by the creation of the world you already know. Reading it first loses all the impact!

"Target Nearest" broken after patch

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

I usually bind “Target nearest enemy” to C, ala GW1, and have come to rely heavily on it. After the patch I immediately noticed its behavior has changed to the point that it is completely unusable.

It seems to be prioritizing targeting destructible objects over foes.

It sometimes picks foes behind me, off-camera that are attacking someone else.

It it frequently picking foes on a completely different z from me, resulting in “Obstructed” or just an inability to get the chosen foe, or picks a foe that’s out of range over one that’s 3 feet away from me.

All of this is new since the patch, and I’ve had to switch entirely to mouse-targeting as a result, because targeting the “Nearest foe” does anything but what it claims.

[Event] Frustrations with Knight fights.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

The most aggravating part is that I actually did complete the Knight events and Hologram Prime. Three times. Unfortunately, I did during the first couple of days after the new chapter was released, and of course the various bugs prevented me from getting any loot and the hologram’s health stuck at 0 and it never died, so no achievements or cores for me. So I figured I’d give it a week and try it again once the bugs were fixed.

Now it’s impossible to even kill the knights on my home server, due to there being maybe 30 people per knight, and so I’m going to have to try to guest to a server with a high enough pop to kill them.

Invulnerable Prime Hologram

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

I just encountered an apparently different but equally blocking bug on Isle of Janthir. The hologram split correctly, but instead of the individual holograms dying, they all turned invulnerable when they hit 0 health. Then they would continue running around dealing full damage to everyone. We eventually timed out and failed the mission because every visible foe was at 0 health and Invulnerable.

Hopefully this is part of the same bug and will be fixed when the OP’s bug is.

Defiant is a horrible mechanic.

Verteiron.8734

/agree on the defiant mechanic as it stands. I like the idea of the boss using “defiant” as a response to controls. Not only would that make control skills feel less useless, but it also reinforces the timing of control attacks: if you “waste” your control attack interrupting something relatively innocuous, the boss will have Defiance during the attack that you REALLY NEED to interrupt. It would encourage skillful play.

Randomize FotM Entrance location daily

in Suggestions

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

It’s widely-acknowledged that the FotM has had two undesired effects.

1) Lion’s Arch is now continually packed to the rafters.
2) Many maps are now even more empty than before, as people who were playing general PvE are now grinding for rings in FotM.

I believe the first problem could be solved and the second mitigated somewhat by randomizing the location of the entrance portal to the FotM. It’s even somewhat lore-friendly: the Fractals were originally reached by accident when the portal mis-fired. With the massive number of travelers traversing the barrier between Tyria and the Mists, the entrance has now grown so unstable that it has become untethered and drifts around the land, opening and closing at random.

Moving the Fractals entrance to random maps will take the load off of LA, and can be used to redirect a large number of players to other maps at least on a temporary basis. And, of course, we can have a Nick-the-Traveler-style “Find the portal!” thread every day.

The battle lines need some work, too. As a human Mesmer female, my low-on-health lines are both spoken very flatly. “… Hope I pull through” and “This is getting serious.” I hear them a lot and I find them jarring every time. Who says that? It’s more like I’m hearing her thoughts than anything that would be spoken aloud. A more emotional outcry, like “GODS HELP ME!” would probably be more suitable.

That's not who I targeted!

Verteiron.8734

I have this problem, too. I really enjoyed having “C” auto-select the nearest enemy target in GW, and I immediately bound this key in GW2 as well, but it seems to have some problems. It always highlights the closest enemy, but my first attack frequently strikes another nearby mob and THEN switches to my target, so now I have two mobs to deal with.

I’ve gotten used to it and now time things more carefully and generally avoid the problem, but it IS buggy.

Leave Ascended gear, it’s a nice balance point between Exotic and Legendary. Make sure it’s flashy and showy. …

For the gazillionth time, how could something be a nice balance between two pieces of gear if they share exactly the same stats? In case you didn’t know, Legendaries and Exotics have the exact same stats. There is no gap, never was.

In terms of item requirements. Since there’s no Legendary armor, Ascended makes a nice long-term goal for armor collecting. Hence my suggestion to make sure it’s extra-flashy.

Fractals of the Mists Saved PvE!

Fractals are a fun design and a creative dungeon type. That said, the sort of gating they introduce has pretty much ensured I’ll never get to see them myself. I didn’t find a tier-1 group over the weekend because I was having fun in Karkaland, and it’s already very difficult to get one put together. By the time I actually have a 2-hour block of free time to play a dungeon, it’ll be like trying to find a group for AC SM.

I’ll just watch run-through videos on YouTube.

Leave Ascended gear, it’s a nice balance point between Exotic and Legendary. Make sure it’s flashy and showy. Remove the Fractal-grinding prereq; tying top-tier armor to a single dungeon is a phenomenally stupid idea no matter how you look at it.

The Infusion/Spectral Agony mechanic was a bad idea in GW (notice they don’t reuse the mechanic after Prophecies?) and it’s an even worse idea the way it’s implemented here. Get rid of it. You want to make the Fractals dungeon ever-harder, do it the way you normally do: spawn more mobs and raise enemy levels.

Serious bug during Kessex Peak Karka attack

No, I was present for the very first event. And one or two waves of Karkas even spawned that were visible for me. It’s just that, for most of the people in most of the rest of the event, the Karkas were invisible and untargetable. Some people got a Gold reward even though they didn’t kill anything, others killed multiple enemies and got no reward.

Isle of Janthir server: Gerrenhoff was flooded with players, presumably as planned, but many people, including me, could not see the majority of the Karka spawns. They were invisible and there was nothing to target. Every once in a while a wave would actually appear, but I spent most of the event watching everyone else run around shooting things I couldn’t see.

From the in-game comments I was far from the only one experiencing this.

Wizards Folly, and the massive tower therein.

in Lore

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

My guess is that the Wizard’s Tower was a leftover from the previous races, which means it could have been Jotun, Mursaat, Seer or Dwarf make. My personal guess would be the Jotun; we know they lived high in the mountains and built “grand enchanted monuments” there. Just a relic of a bygone era, like the Eye of the North itself.

The floating castle in Kryta, I think, is a different matter. We know that some rocks near the Tarnished Coast just… float. In GW:EN we encounter plenty of them, just drifting in the air with no technological or magical apparatus to support them; the floating just seems like an inherent property. An enterprising soul might attach a big chain to one of those, haul it to a more hospitable place and build a castle on it. After that, regardless of your actual magical power, you can bet the locals would call you a wizard…

Next thing you know, it’ll turn out that the Dragons are themselves the only thing that protects Tyria from something even WORSE, and the “Herald” is actually Its agent.

Why aren't the Asura blind?

in Lore

Posted by: Verteiron.8734

Verteiron.8734

My guess is that the Asura evolved as nocturnal surface-dwellers to start with and were driven underground a long, long time ago, prior to the development of their technology. Once there, they had no real reason to come up again until they were driven out by the Destroyers. Even a few thousand years (and we don’t know how long they’ve lived underground) isn’t long enough for major evolutionary pressures to take effect, so they almost certainly had the large eyes and ears before they moved underground.

The large ears may be an example of runaway sexual selection: see also the peakitten’s tail (if that gets filtered to peakitten I will lol).

Edit: It did. I am loling. I mean, of course, the male version of the species in which the females are called peahens.

There were similar problems in high-end content in the original GW (think Hard Mode and DoA). I think (and this is pure speculation) that Arenanet is still feeling their way around their new engine’s capabilities, and their content designers are used to using the “high HP == high difficulty” formula (examples: dragon general fights) rather than placing a high value on positioning, synergy and resourcefulness. I predict future content will be more interactive and interesting as they learn to push the engine to its limits.

If you’re the sort of person who enjoys punishingly difficult games, give VVVVVV a try.

As for the rest of this thread… the clock tower is not required for anything. I did it because I enjoy that sort of thing. My wife doesn’t: platforming isn’t her strong point. She took one look at the clock tower, made a couple of attempts and said “Nope, not happening!” and went on to have a blast playing Reaper Rumble.

Games are for fun. If you’re not having fun playing the CT, why on earth are you wasting your time on it? There are lots of other things to do that will probably give you greater pleasure!

Someone on Reddit said that you can tell if your CT instance is glitched by watching the animation of the first cog you have to jump on. If it’s tilted to the side, rather than perfectly vertical, then your instance is bugged and you’ll have to rezone OR try an alternative:

Supposedly you can still complete the CT in a bugged zone by waiting for the face to get struck by lightning, then jump into the NEXT (blank) wall of the tower as you rotate by it.

These are both hearsay as I have yet to encounter a bugged instance.

Sylvari: Warm-"blooded" or cold?

I always imagined Sylvari “skin” as being cool to the touch but not cold. At a minimum, though, they’re susceptible to freezing just like anything else with a liquid circulatory system. If their blood/sap has a high sugar content (think maple trees), they may be able to avoid freezing solid at much lower temperatures than their mammalian colleagues though their movement would be greatly slowed as viscosity increases.
