I’ve been playing a Bear Ranger, but honestly, it’s not holding my interest much. Too much like every other Ranger class I’ve played in other games.
So, I thought I might take a walk on the dark side and try a Necro. My question is, do they get a pet/pets that do as good a job at tanking as a Ranger’s bear? Or, at least an acceptable job?
Thanks!
Any help? As I mentioned in another post, I have trouble moving and attacking at the same time. I’m trying to narrow down which class is probably best for me.
Thanks!
Which has to move and dodge less, a bear ranger or a “tank” build warrior? I mean in open world PvE, not dungeons.
Thanks!
OK, thank you. I wonder why they have a weapon type in game that’s so far behind on the DPS of other weapons? I mean, why even bother having it?
I mean is the damage output acceptable? Is it good enough to do open world PvE without being badly behind the curve?
Like I said, I’m new.

Hello! I’m a noob (well, I played a tiny bit at release) so don’t be too tough on me. I really like the idea of a Norn ranger dual wielding axes. Is this viable for PvE? I plan to do open world only, no dungeons (at least not for a good bit).
Thanks for any advice!
I guess I’m worried that I’ll just be playing GW2 at a very low level. Does that make sense? That I’ll not be getting as much out of the game as others because I can’t play it the way it’s meant to be played.
I will say this and please understand I am not being mean, but if you really struggle with being able to move around during combat you may be in for a rather disappointing experience. It’s true that there are classes and armor weapon set combinations that can minimize the amount of movement needed, but certain open world events even being the “tankiest” you can be still won’t be enough to keep you from eating dirt. Movement during combat is a central tenet to this game, as well as actively mitigating damage through blinds, blocks, dodges etc etc. There is still plenty you can experience in open world pve, but there are things you simply won’t be able to accomplish without being able to move around. I certainly am not trying to discourage you from playing just be prepared to spend a lot of time running back from the waypoints until you get it all worked out for you. Good luck and happy hunting!!!
OK. Unfortunately, this may just not be the MMO for me.
Hmmm. As a ranger, or any class really, do you need to constantly move/strafe to avoid damage in PvE? I was fighting some kind of mini-boss in the low level Sylvari area, and he charged me and almost one-shotted me. My pet (the starter fern hound) didn’t do anything to take aggro.
Thanks for all the help!
“Just a heads up there will be encounters that will give you quite a bit of trouble. Ones that pretty much require attacking and moving at the same time. For your sake I hope you are able to come up with a clever way to accomplish this otherwise you will find yourself at the wrong end of some AoEs.”
When will this happen? Main story line quest? I don’t plan to do dungeons.
OK, thanks for the help guys! This gives me some hope. I’ll try a gaming mouse. Also, what kind of bow for the ranger, long or short?
Because of a partial disability, I have a limited ability to move and fight at the same time. I can do one or the other, just not both so great together. Is there a class that’s suited for me? I play PvE only, for the most part. I don’t really plan to do dungeons, just open world PvE content.
Thanks for any advice!
LOL, well I have no idea what I’m doing, so I better go with Warrior!
Which is best suited for primarily solo, PvE play, Warrior or Guardian? I’d prefer a tankier build.
Thank you!
Yes, open world I mean. I’m not sure if I’m coordinated enough for GW2 dungeons. I heard you can farm the highest level zone for gold to buy nice gear on the auction house.
:)
If you go with a primarily melee build on a Warrior or Guardian, do you have to kite much? Especially if you just stick with landscape mobs.
Thanks!
OK, thanks for all the help. I’ll give it a shot.
What about kiting? Do you have to kite much if you go with a melee build?
What is the dodge bar??
OK, thanks for all the help! I’m afraid GW2 may not be for me. I’m pretty bad at dodging, historically.
OK. Do you mostly have to dodge straight back from the mob? Looked like it from the videos. If so, can you set up a hotkey that only takes one key stroke to work?
Thanks! Do regular, landscape mobs require that much dodging? I’m not sure if I will run dungeons or not, might just farm landscape to get enough gold to buy gear off the AH, if that’s viable.
How does dodging work in GW2? Are there red telegraphs on the ground to be avoided? Or do you have to watch mobs to determine when they’re going to do an attack that should be dodged?
Thanks!
Are there a good number of players who don’t do dungeons?
Well, truth is, I’m NOT very skilled. That’s the main reason I plan to avoid dungeons. I was hoping to have some fun just playing around in PvE and WvW!
Is it possible to play at 80 without ever doing dungeons, and still have good enough gear to have fun in WvW? I don’t care about being the best, I just want to enjoy myself. Playing a GS/Rifle Warrior currently. Noob here, sorry if this is a silly question!
The exotic gear you get from high level map completion, crafting or the corrupted god temple karma vendors is the same stat level as you get from dungeons.
High lvl map completion doesn’t reward lvl 80 exotics, and the karma gear sets have some of the worst stat combinations in the game. No P/V/T is not good, we don’t need you to sit there and pretend you are tanking while contributing half of what someone geared for DPS is doing.
That said, you can sell the exotics for decent gold and spend the resulting ~20g from leveling and map completion on a set of good exotics on the TP.
Anyway, why would you want endgame gear if you aren’t going to do endgame activities? If you’re just farting around in the open world, just buy some rares and call it good.
I don’t really know, I’m pretty much a noob just coming back to the game. I guess I assumed that exotics have better looking skins and a bit better stats. Something to strive for.

How is this for a GS/Rifle build? Mostly PVE with a little WvW thrown in. Thanks!

Different skins for karma vendor vs. dungeons?
Can you get good, endgame weapons and armor without running dungeons? Thanks!
Is kiting a required skill for a warrior in PVE? How about for dungeons? Thank you!
Thanks for all the help. How are you guys soloing event champions? Are you kiting?
Do DE’s not currently scale properly for one player?
I’m just returning to GW2. I’m playing a level 20 warrior. When I played before, dynamic events were swarmed with players and were pretty easy. Now, I’m usually finding myself alone. The problem is, I’m finding myself facing multiple foes my level or higher when I’m trying to complete things. Sometimes as many as 5 or 6. How am I supposed to take on that many mobs at once? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
Total noob question: How do you trigger the 3rd hit? Do you press 1 three times, or does it happen automatically?
So an AH build heals automatically as you fight? Thanks for all the help!
Is Altruistic Healing an active or passive healing build?
I have a minor neurological condition that makes managing a bunch of buttons difficult. Is there a guardian build that doesn’t have to swap weapons to be effective? I mainly play PVE. Thank you!
I don’t want to faceroll. I just have a minor neurological condition that makes management of a bunch of buttons difficult.
Is there a guardian spec that doesn’t have to swap weapons too often??
Thanks for the help. Orion the Cursed, you sound angry!
How about a rifle/hammer build? Is that even viable? Sorry, noob here.

I’m looking for a class that, simply put, doesn’t have a huge number of buttons to push. Does engineer work? Do they have to swap weapons often? Thanks!
Man, so many buttons to push in this game, LOL! Is there a class that doesn’t require swapping weapon sets??
In PVE, will a dual-axe warrior need to swap to another weapon set on a regular basis? Thanks!
Is there any reason you can’t go melee for open-world PVE, then switch to ranged for dungeons?
I’m just returning to the game and trying to decide what to play. If I remember correctly, melee used to have a much harder time in dungeons and higher levels than ranged. Is this still true? Thanks!
Is a rifle warrior viable for PVE? Would it have to kite a lot at higher levels? Thanks!
What weapon is generally considered better for PVE, longbow or shortbow? Thanks!
I read that short bow has been nerfed. For single-target DPS, which bow is now better, long or short?
Thanks!
