CoF P2 bugged

So, we were doing path 2 of CoF and somehow just barely failed at the bomb part. We tried redoing it and Magg would not accept the bombs, so we all had to leave. I googled the issue to see if anyone was able to figure out a fix and I have the same exact problem as this guy from 2 years ago https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/CoF-p2-bugged-Magg-s-bombs/first#post1596591 .

Also, a dev did respond in that thread 2 years ago saying this bug would be addressed, but it hasn’t, so there’s that.

What’s up gw2 people.

So, I’m looking for a guild on the JQ server. I’m in NA (central time zone to be exact), but I’m on at a myriad of hours so as long as your guild is fairly active, I shouldn’t have a problem blending in. I’ve been playing this game since beta but have been on and off because I usually quit during the school year, and I’m back now for at least the summer. Part of the reason for me quitting so often is that I’ve been unable to find a good community of people to game with. I’m trying to find my own little niche of people to play with. I’m 21 years old and am a college student. I’d like to find a group of people similar to me in that they’re interested playing at least at a somewhat competitive level, but also don’t mind doing the odd goofball stuff every now and then. I’m not necessarily looking for a guild where everyone is around my age, because old folks and teenagers can be pretty chill too.

I’m usually turned off by really large guilds, although I’m not completely ruling them out if you feel I would be a good fit. I just like smaller guilds of about 30-50 where mostly everyone knows each other and they all play together. Socially, I’d like it to be a pretty relaxed atmosphere. Although I’m pretty nonchalant when it comes to most things, I would like a guild with a bit of an attitude. It gets tiring when everyone is all wound up trying to be on their best behavior, and I don’t want to be punished for making the occasional snarky comment about something I don’t like in the game or if we got stomped on in a WvW run. Take it like this—the GW1 pvp community had alot of kittens, but they were still a really fun group of people to just hang out with and play the game with.

GAMING WISE

My biggest reason to look for a guild is for WvW. I wanna learn a thing or two about WvW. Although I’m not opposed to the occasional giant mob, I would like to be part of a guild that frequently utilizes other tactics such as employing havoc groups or sneakier tactics like that.

In addition, I would like the guild I join to have members who don’t mind running the occasional dungeon or fractal when they’re not wvwing.

If you think I’ll be a good fit for you and your friends, the best way to reach me is probably by sending me mail in game.

This thread is getting derailed so hard, but from what I’ve seen from the forum, pretty much any thread that even slightly mentions GW1 story gets hijacked by Vayne.

Anyway, back to the topic and the OP’s original interest with GW1.

OP, one thing you definitely need to try in GW is the pvp. It is considered by many to be the best pvp they’ve ever played in an online multiplayer. Back in the day, there were small arenas you’d unlock on the map for your newbie pve char to play against people of your level, but these are inactive now. Not going to lie though, the pvp scene is pretty dead right now, but I wanted to come back here and post after being inspired by the fact that I was just able to get 16 active pvpers together after midnight to do some gvg scrims in my guild. If you ever wanna try your hand at the PvP, we wouldn’t have a problem grabbing you and taking you along with us in a GvG friendly (which we tend to do alot since ladder is so dead right now). If your character isn’t level 20 yet, no worries you can always make a pvp ready char and delete it later.

I mentioned my GW1 IGN earlier in the thread, but I’ll add it again: Tainted Radiance. Add me to your friends list and feel free to pm me when I’m on. I may be afk sometimes, but I’ll usually pm you once I get back.

And things seems to only get worse. I groan in pain everytime I have to watch Marjory and Kas go through another borderline creepy, completely out of place love scene (and not because they are a same sex couple, but because it’s written with all the subtly of a Mac truck). I get it ANet. You’re a modern open minded company. No need to beat us over the head with it.

Thisssss. yessss. I like the fact that more and more gaming companies are embracing a greater diversity of heros, but stop doing it so blatantly. You don’t need to appeal to tumblr fangirls/boys who literally need everything shown to them at face point.

Don’t make it seem so forced. Let the relationship shine on its own merits.

Thanks again for all the replies. This has been a very helpful discussion thus far. So if I were to migrate away from the Dervish idea, would Warrior/Necro be viable? I’d like to play a melee class with life taps akin to EQ’s Shadowknight or WoW’s Blood Deathknight. What would best accomplish this, or is this just not a realistic idea in GW1?

While everyone above me brings up solid points on the viability of this combo, I say just go for it. It’s your first character. Experiment with him, make your own build, don’t be limited to what other players usually play. Don’t worry, the content won’t punish you for experimenting with combinations and skills. Doing so helps you better learn about the different professions and skills in that game. In fact, for your first few characters I’d say make whatever profession combinations you want and play them how you want. That was part of the beauty of guild wars, that I could literally mix the trait lines of two professions to create something unique and for me. And if you end up not liking the combo, or wanting to try out a different mix of professions, you can change your secondary around mid-game.

kitten, I remember in prophecies, I made my monk /R because I wanted a pet pig to run around with and act as my bodyguard. I kept that one skill, revive animal on my bar up until the Maguuma so I could rez up all the poor pets of all the tards that didn’t bring comfort. My ranger was /Me because I liked the idea of using illusion skills + poison to degen my enemies out.

Those were good times. I don’t remember anyone ever complaining that I had oinkers around with me while I was healing them.

I wouldn’t call GW2 childish. But it does lack a feeling of seriousness (darkness?) and a focused direction that GW1 had.

I’ve always taken major issue with the fact that you can ever be under-leveled for your own PS. You get caught up on your story and then have to grind out several more levels before you’re strong enough for the next part. That is TERRIBLE DESIGN. You should be able to do one after another and have it give you enough exp to qualify for the next part, period. It really kills the sense of urgency and significance of what is supposedly going on, when you have to just stop, forget all about it and go do other stuff to get more levels because you’re too week to continue. Too weak to continue your own story even though you’ve successfully done everything prior? That’s not right.

I think you bring up a lot of great points in your post, but this has been one of my biggest issues with the story. I hate how I literally have to “take a break” from the story after every mission so that my character can be strong enough to complete the next mission. I was so surprised when I first saw this because of how seamless this process was in GW, where my player literally leveled exactly how he/she needed to as the story progressed. This really helped the feel of immersion into the story- you said it perfectly, it kills the sense of urgency if I have to go out and do some grinding to get two levels for the next mission. It’s gotten to a point that on new characters I don’t even touch personal story until I’m level 30 so that I don’t have to deal with the discontinuity.

@ Vayne

First of all, this is a terrible analogy. The human nation, which comprises a fifth of one of the major nations in Tyria is much more than some “isolated mountain farm”. Sorry, but if there are multiple giant dragons flying across Tyria (Which is one continent vs seven huge continents of Earth), I think it would affect me especially if I live right outside a major city of my nation. If you still want to continue with this analogy though, then don’t you think in WWII that Paris, London, Berlin, and the surrounding areas felt some sort of impact of the war? Farmers is Queensdale and the Gendarran fields are much more occupied with their moas than the threat of a giant dragon swooping down and destroying everything they’ve known. If a dragon has arisen and devastated a significant portion of the continent, then don’t you think people would be more wary of it?

Second of all, I think the point I was trying to make went straight over your head. When do our characters show any indication of their lives being affected by the dragon? Sure, the asura and norn were driven from their homes, but how do we experience this in the game? We never experience any sort of sentiment about how terrible the migration to the surface was and how devastated their race was by the loss of their underground cities. You also completely failed to address the point of caudecus. As the legate minister, don’t you think that his views on the elder dragon (Which we don’t even get to see) would effect his storyline somehow? That’s like if we found out that Russia had 1500 active nuclear weapons and had already released some in Europe, and all John Boehner wants to do is attack Obama and never address this bombs.

I will agree with you on the sylvari race. I feel that maybe because they are the new race, more effort may have been put into their role in the world, especially seeing how caithe is the only Destiny’s Edge character I find to be multi-faceted. Our sylvari heroes seem to be the only one with a direct motive to go after the dragons because we saw them in our dream.

Anyways I feel like this thread keeps getting thrown off track through attack of my examples, when instead the original purpose I think was to explore ways to better present the lore. And I have taken into account Anet’s post about giving good feedback in my responses—identifying the issues, giving some ideas on how to make the content better, and providing examples of where I have seen improvement in other games. Constant critique of my posts isn’t going to take this discussion anywhere.

I find it funny that the ESRB rating is T for teen when it should be E for everyone. The writing is so childish, that I’ve seen saturday morning cartoons with a better plot line.

Ugh! This! So much this. I was literally talking to my guildies today about how childish the game feels in comparison to GW1. We don’t even have a real fleshed out enemy in this game. I mean we have the elder dragon, but they literally get no character development themselves at all. They woke up, destroyed everything, and now what? What do they want?)

Hmmm…. with regards to the elder dragons getting character development, I honestly do not think they need to. As for what do they want? Simple: dragon is hungry, dragon eats magic.

I really can’t agree with this. Having an intricate villain with multiple layers makes a story so much more interesting. Think about some of the great movie/comic/literature villains and how they contributed to creating a captivating plot… palpatine/the joker/ hannibal lecter/ even Smaug as a response to your dragon question. Remember all the ambition Anet showed pre-release? A game with such high aspirations deserves a better enemy than “dragon is hungry, dragon eats magic”. As players, we literally have no connection with zhaitan other than knowing that he damaged tyria. Our characters aren’t personally affected by him to begin with. Most of the contact we have with his devastation is secondhand… we help NPCs who were directly affected by his destruction.

Think about it like this. In GW1 prophecies, our first enemy was the charr… they destroyed our home, and from this point, the game furthers the plot, giving you a personal connection with the enemies you encounter. In factions, you’re working to fight this plague that threatens to wipe out your country and you see that even one of your fellow students has become infected, from here the story builds. In NF, Varesh Ossa invades your country, killing many of your comrades and capturing your leader, the entire plot deepens from this point.

Also, the threat and devastation of the dragon doesn’t really become an active presence in the game until you get to orr, which is pretty late on in the game. When I’m starting out and even in the surrounding areas when I’m mid-level, I have no real interaction with the dragon’s corruption aside from the few areas of the map that have rise.

In prophecies, the evidence of the searing was all around me. When I wasn’t fighting charr, my quests (hearts for gw2) involved me helping people overcome the problems the searing had caused them. I could give examples about factions and NF, but this post’ll get too long.

Another thing, if zhaitan’s power is really so threatening, then shouldn’t his presence reach into the subplots of our story? My last two characters I worked on were humans, so those are the ones I remember the best: the centaurs and bandits seem unphased and unaffected by the presence of the dragon. Especially among the centaurs. As a nation of intelligent beings (I mean, ventari was a centaur!), you would think something as powerful as the dragon would somehow affect their actions in the story . Also Caudecus plays a significant role in the human storyline, but I’m not even sure if he ever even brings up the elder dragon.

This is all stuff I feel like anet could improve upon when they introduce content for the other dragons. Thoughts?

Lord, I hate Logan.

When he abandons the party in TA story, I want caithe to kittenslap him back to Divinity’s Reach. Like, we didn’t need you anyway. All you do is run in and die in the first 5 seconds. /hairflip

What about Rytlock storming out there?

Besides, that time he kinda had a point, Shortly after Rytlock goes after him for ‘running away’, suddenly Caithe turns and kinda does it too. AFTER asking him and Rytlock to come. He was probably already in a bad mood from Rytlock and that dumped on him makes it worse.

Of course, I’m not putting it past Faolin that she may have used her mesmer abilities to make Logan and Rytlock madder then normal.

Logan is just soooooooo obnoxious though. He acts so childish sometimes and gets offended so easily. He literally seems like he’s on his man period everytime he’s around other Destiny’s Edge characters. But really, he’s captain of the Seraph and fails to remain level headed when his peers call him out on his mistakes. Like realllllly? Imagine being a solider under him. Loses his cool whenever he’s criticized. gg.

Maybe some of it’s that he’s Gwen’s lineage. And I know that ancestry has no effect on personality, but it’s so hard to imagine that he descended from someone who was so strong-willed, determined, mature, and had a firm grasp on what was best for her people. Like, Logan struggles to get along with Rytlock because he called him out for being a whiny kitten who’s way too attached to Jennah’s bed. Gwen on the other hand, begrudgingly, put aside her differences with a Charr. Charr, who had terrorized her since she was a little girl, captured and tortured her, and then eventually tried to kill her for their own enjoyment— all for the greater good. Logan is legit the Drake of GW.

On another note, the homie sucks as an NPC companion. he dies so fast and I still have to address him as captain? lolwut?

Back to the OP’s original comment on the stale presentation of lore. I think there is so much that could be done to help present the lore in a more meaningful manner. For example, points of interest—so many of these are just strewn around the map without any real backstory behind them. I guess the backstory on some of the PoIs is supposed to be assumed from the events going on in the map, but I feel like it would be much more worthwhile and interesting to find a PoI if the devs provided some sort of short written caption about it. Remember how all the towns and outposts in GW had a caption that related back to the lore in GW? That was one of the reasons I loved mapping in that game because I could discover new outposts and read the lore about their history that the devs had provided. I feel like this would add another level of reward to mapping, especially to some of us lore nerds because we get a deeper insight into the history of tyria from all the work we put into getting to the PoI.

I think Domino really hit the nail on the head with his post about the game being to “T” for teen (I’d say much more PG). The current missions aren’t very immersive and feel very superficial. There is no real fear of failure like there was in GW because you are just not involved in the story. Usually I just tag along with an NPC companion and it feels like we run around killing what someone else tells us to kill until we get to the end point. The lack of variety in the missions also contributes to this. Remember all those different missions of GW where the mission really wasn’t get from point A to point B? Like dzagonur bastion, Eternal Grove (THAT was a mission!), Assault on the stronghold from EoTN to name a few. There was one mission in GW2 that I feel actually did well with this and added some variety to the mix was Retribution where you worked with Agent Zott to retake Claw Island. Anyways, sorry for the super long post. I wanted to include this quote from GW1 on Ring of Fire that I felt really helped capture how the storyline really made us feel involved in the plot:

“"Remember, whatever lies inside the Door of Komalie scares the Mursaat. But all of this, these walls and bunkers, they weren’t built to keep something from getting out of the volcano. They were built to keep someone from getting in. No matter how frightened they are of the creatures behind the Door, they are more frightened of you. That, my friend, makes you about the most dangerous thing in Tyria."

Ugh, my response was so long I have to break it down into two posts. So i apologize about the double post.

Vayne,

I really don’t see the point you’re trying to make here. I mean, I kind of do, but I just don’t understand where it’s heading. You’re arguing that the instancing of GW made it a better storyteller—even if this is true, it really doesn’t make up for the fact that GW2’s storytelling has been so incredibly lackluster. Like we said earlier missions are instanced. You mentioned the primary quests of GW as breadcrumbs that link the missions. Great. That’s exactly on point. But, why exactly does that detract from this game. If you noticed, most of the primary quests of GW were literally “go talk to this NPC” or “find your way to this outpost”. Don’t believe me? Here’s a link to Guildwiki for Proph storyline quests—http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_Prophecies_missions_and_primary_quests . I don’t see how “go talk to this NPC” or “find an outpost (an area in a specific map for gw2’s case)” can’t be implemented here. Another thing, I’m not arguing that those elements aren’t in the game already. There are some personal story quests where I literally go to an area (Logan’s office for example) where I’m briefed on a situation and that’s literally that one quest—This corresponds to “go to … area and talk to … NPC”. What I am trying to say here is that these are done in such a dry manner. Also, a lot of the story seems so stand alone. Like I do something in the storyline and it literally has no effect later in the game. Like I infiltrated a circus and helped stop a mass hypnotism- but aside from a quick reference to Uzolan, this really has no bearing on what happens in the rest of the story. I use a lot of examples from prophecies because I believe it has the best story of GW—but anyways, when you’re crossing the shiverpeaks with the refugees, you work with the dwarves to find refuge. Later on in the story, you work with those same dwarves to free the shining blade and eventually fight alongside them in the Ring of Fire. There are plenty of examples in that storyline where something I did in the past has some, maybe not direct, influence on the future outcome of my hero’s journey. Also, just because you have options, doesn’t mean that it has to detract from the storyline. When I got to Lion’s Arch in GW, I was definitely not level 20, but if I wanted to, I could go off with that same character to Elona or Cantha and work on those campaigns. Or I could even go back to ascalon and finish all the quests in my journal from that area. Just because I wasn’t completing the story at that moment, didn’t cause the storyline to be any less good.

Anyways, this entire conversation has moved past the point of the OP’s original sentiment. The entire point about instancing and whatnot is moot because all it does is provide an excuse for the poor storytelling and doesn’t either work to create a solution or better understand the issue at hand.

For the record, Guild Wars 1 was never an MMO and calling it such is misleading. Even Anet has said it’s not an MMO.

And some of the differences between this game and that game are the differences between an MMO and a game like Guild Wars 1, which was a CoRPG.

Over all, it’s quite a bit easier to tell stories when the entire game is instanced.

yes, because personal story and living story missions aren’t instanced in gw2?

I just have to say something.

I never played Guild Wars 1, but a friend told me about Guild Wars 2 and I started playing in the beta. Within the first 20 minutes I knew this game was going to be special. And it is.

Having fallen in love with the world and the stories and the combat and the game modes, I’d considered picking up Guild Wars 1 to delve a bit deeper into the backstory, but if anything has convinced me to not play GW1, it’s the GW1 players that post on this forum. All this stuff about soul-crushingly hard content, 800 skills and builds and heroes and henchmen has been an absolute turn off to me. Not to mention the attitude and demeanor of this small minority of GW1 players with their continual bashing of this game and their sour, bitter and hateful treatment of anyone or anything to do with GW2 which is hands down the best MMO I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing.

I honestly wonder if you folks have ever played an MMO before because if you’ve seen the garbage that’s out there you would know that this gorgeous, fascinating and immensely interesting world the devs have created for us is one of a kind jewel in an ocean of mediocrity and to be treasured.

Seriously, if you like GW1 better, why don’t you play GW1 instead of posting here?

Sorry, but this post is pretty irrelevant to this conversation. This basically has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. You’re complaining about GW1 players and how they’re qq about skills and builds and whatnot. While I do have a few qualms about that, this entire thread has been about storyline. It is a critique of lore and storyline development in the game in the hopes that devs will read it and look at their past work when trying to IMPROVE the current game.

And another thing, have you ever stopped to consider that GW1 players complain because they want to see this game succeed and improve? Some of us have been with ANET for the past 8 years. Is it wrong for a loyal customer to ask more of their company and voice their concerns? Is it wrong to ask for better content? Because, like I said, we have been with Anet for the better part of a decade and we know the kind of amazing stuff this company is capable of producing. Unlike you may think, we are not an army of rabid hatemongering cynics. And trust me, I’ve tried plenty of MMOs: TERA, Rift, Aion, DCUO, WoW, SWTOR, Dragon Nest, hell, even Runescape. That’s just off the top of my head and most of these I wasn’t able to play for more than a month. There is undeniably something about this game that keeps me coming back. But sorry, I cannot continue to go on just singing Anet’s praises when I see areas of the game that need definite improvement.

Oh and btw, I still play plenty of GW. But sadly, that game has died off and is not the once giant, amazing MMO it used to be.

Idk maybe that’s clear in the lore somewhere, but the storyline doesn’t make it clear other than that they like to destroy things and we need to kill them.

At least GW1 had good villains—Varesh, who turned to Abaddon to try and benefit her nation. Shiro- who wanted revenge from Cantha. The Lich- he wanted to complete the flameseeker prophecies and unleash the titans. All these villains have strong back stories as well- the elder dragons literally just woke up and were like “gonna go wreck tyria now kbye”

I know I’m ranting here but one last thing. The way the storyline is laid out is so completely linear. From the moment you make your character you basically know you’re gonna kill zhaitan. In prophecies, you:

1. Try to save ascalon
2. Realize this is futile and get refugees to LA
3. Help the white mantle against the undead
4. Help the white mantle against the shining blaed
5. PLOT TWIST white mantle are evil
6. Help the shining blade
7. * My memory gets fuzzy after this point* There’s a traitor and you have to become ascended bc you’re the chosen.
8. Free evennia and kill markis
9. Help the dwarves defeat the stone summit to gain them as allies
10. KIll your ally vizier khilbron who PLOT TWIST was the Lich

see how engaging that storyline is compared to one where you’re just on a quest to kill a dragon? I REALLY want to like this game more. That’s why I’ve stuck around this long. But please anet make your characters more engaging. Also I hate logan (but that’s just personal :P)

Thanks again for all your help guys! I have one more question: To start as a Dervish, I have to start in the Factions campaign. Is there a way to start the Prophecies campaign with the Dervish class?

To start as a Dervish, you have to start in Nightfall. You can take dervish to the prophecies campaign after doing the consulate docks mission in Nightfall, if I remember correctly. You’ll just have to get the quest to go to Lion’s arch. If you want to go before this mission (which I wouldn’t recommend for your first Nightfall character) you can ask for “a ferry to LA” in Kamadan. If you take your dervish to prophecies, you won’t get to experience some of the storyline (primarily pre-searing and some of the post-searing primary quests. You can still play the ascalonian missions, it will just be without the primary quests to link them). Your dervish’s storyline will start where the prophecies storyline left off in Lion’s Arch. This may seem confusing from how I’m explaining it, but once you get a prophecies character going, you’ll see what I mean.

P.S. if someone is ever helping you with a mission and they pressure you to skip a cutscene..don’t! The cutscenes is where alot of the storyline magic happens.

Want To Try GW1

You should definitely get all 3 + EoTN. Guild Wars is the best MMO I’ve ever played and I still play it regularly. I wish you could of played when it was more active so you could experience just how good Guild Wars PvP is! But anyways, dervish is a good starter profession. In all honesty, it’s not as difficult as some people have made it seem, especially not in PvE. If you want a really challenging, but rewarding profession, try out the Mesmer. Try finding a guild that’s recruiting— some of them help new players get into the game. If you want, add me to your friends list: Tainted Radiance. PM me when I’m on and I’ll be happy to help (unless I’m GvGing )

Edit: Also, GW1 storyline is amazing. Prophecies storyline is by far my favorite. It’s very non-linear with some treachery, unexpected allies, and unexpected foes.

It’s not a bad idea. Anything to make the UI more player-friendly sounds good in my book. It would also save me from seeing [WXYZ] Recruiting! LF active players! I Dungeon I PvP I WvW I Fractals I Farming I every 5 minutes.

Healing class

This game was designed with the express intent of NOT having a healer class.

If you ever stood in an outpost in GW1 spamming “LF monk” for 15 minutes, you would get WHY……

A 45 minute queue in any MMO will make you understand why GW2 moved away from tanks and healers…

While moving away from the concrete roles of healer/tank/dps is a good move, they went too far with it and ultimately gameplay is now much shallower because of it. The balancing point should have been that all classes could heal/tank/dps in some fashion without dedicating one person to a single role. If you wanted to spec more into healing and be good at it, it should be possible. If you wanted to be a tankier that too should be possible. However they left out TONS of fun mechanics that would add tons of depth and complexity to the game without turning one class into tank or healer and skewed everything heavily towards damage.

I mean just something off the top of my head but imagine a necro linking his DS pool with another player in his party. It could give berserkers a much needed survivability boost while the necro just needs to keep dpsing. The necro isn’t a healer and the berserker isn’t a tank, but it adds much more depth to combat. Guardians being able to guard a target and when that target takes hits it lowers the cooldowns of virtues by 1-2 seconds. Mesmers that could clone the lowest health ally and give the “aggro” to the clone and when the clone dies it heals the ally. There are lots of fun mechanics that could have been included, but alas we got a stripped down system that favors generic DPS mechanics.

You should go work for Anet. I feel like this type of gameplay would really help take combat to the next level. Your post reminds me alot of GW1 gameplay, where the builds run by different professions intertwined with each other, emphasizing teamwork. I mean for a simple example, look at the basic hammer war and the SoS blood necro of GW1 (these two builds were not strictly limited with their interactions to each other, but you could play them effectively to work with other members of your team as well. This particular combo is just very easy to see.) Also, you mentioned watching health bars in your second post, but I didn’t feel like quoting it. Once again, I have to throwback to gw1 mechanics. If you were “Red Barring” (health watching) in GW1 as a monk, you were doing it wrong. You had to be aware of your own team’s positioning as well as the positioning of enemy players to heal and especially PROT effectively. I feel like this is where anet was trying to go with the guardian profession, but they fell short.

Twice-Told Legend Title, Not good enough.

Get over it. With a persistent online game, such as Guild Wars 2, there are bound to be changes over time. Some of those changes will inevitably lead to situations like this. This addition of the wardrobe had many more positive aspects to it than negative.

+1 for this.

ArenaNet doesn’t owe anybody a refund. There is no possible universe where I can feel sorry for someone who went out of their way to get two of the same Legendary, just so they could match. This is like listening to a billionaire who bought an extra yacht so his cat could have its own, then whining that yachts went half-price the following year and now their cat is no longer privileged.

Even setting aside how ridiculous it is that this situation is even happening, you have nothing to complain about. Nothing got taken away from you. Your items did not get any worse. You put in the time/money/resources to get two of the same legendary weapon, and you still have two of the same legendary weapon. And you did it before there was even a title for it, so now you have this free extra thing.

I can understand that it seems a bit unfair, that there are people who crafted only one legendary pistol or dagger, and now they can apply the skin to their other one. And that kind of sucks for someone who did it the hard way. But, just as there was no way for you to know Wardrobe was coming, neither did ArenaNet when they first made the game. Sometimes, these things happen. It is unfortunate, but I really just shake my head at the sentiment of “Boo hoo, I made two legendaries and now I won’t look doubly as special!”

I really want to comment on how you sound like an angry plebeian (this is coming from a player who gets excited when he was more than 30g in the wallet), but I won’t. Sorry, but if someone spends hours on end farming for two legendaries, I think they have a right to complain.

Also, the entire idea of comparing these players to entitled billionaires is ludicrous. Have you considered how many hours these people have put into the game to get these two legendaries and now all they need is a transmutation charge? Just because they have a fancy weapon doesn’t make them a “billionaire”. For all you know, they might be as broke as the rest of us after spending all that time farming for legendaries.

Another thing, “sometimes things happen” is a terrible response to this sort of situation, where the developer could have taken preemptive steps to assure a better transition. I’m sorry, but if you weren’t put in this situation you have no right to tell others who they can and cannot be upset with.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Elite farming in GW1 was fun. This is much less fun. I’m not sure exactly why. It seems to be more than one factor in play making it less fun.

A couple of things (IMO):

1) It might be less fun because it was added so late in the game’s life. Taking something away and then asking people to earn it back is very different that providing something for people to earn in the first place. I know that existing characters are grandfathered in, but people creating new characters have the experience of how it was handled previously to compare. The previous iteration of the trait system created an expectation of what was normal.

2) You could take a non elite skill in place of an elite in GW1. Not having capped a trait in GW2 might mean having an empty spot in your build.

Hasn’t affected me. Probably won’t that much. But I see why others might be unhappy.

But in Guild Wars 1, elites were much much more important and you were often seriously gimping yourself without an elite. Sure you could take a normal skill, but it meant nothing.

Think of builds made around discord, barrage, signet of spirits, unyielding aura…hell the builds were named after the elites.

Just because you could throw an inconsequential 8th skill in your bar, didn’t mean you weren’t seriously disadvantaged by doing so.

Correct Vayne, but also remember that Elite Skills were to be captured off of lvl20 Bosses and you had a quest to go capture an Elite(may not have been the one you wanted/needed but was still there). There are numerous traits in GW2 that are in areas with higher level mobs than when you should be able to get said trait. The Elite Skills caps were also not severely bugged or in some cases just non-obtainable like some traits in GW2.

You’re also forgetting that you could get max level within a few days if you needed to. Unless you’re going to spend a considerable amount of gold on crafting (which won’t even take you all the way any more), you’re not going to be getting these traits anytime soon. Capping elite skills was much more viable in GW1 as it was much more player-friendly in this aspect. It didn’t take at least a month of play to reach max level like in GW2. Some of the traits involve personal story, so you basically have to grind up to that level to get desired trait or find a buddy to run you through all your personal story missions (which would take forever, especially if you consider having to get to all the quest points in upper level maps). This system is so incredibly flawed for a game with a high level cap.

Another note— WHY can I not save trait builds? Seriously? The game has been out for almost 2 years not including beta. If I have a different build for roaming in WvW compared to large group play or builds for high end pvp areas, why can’t I save my traits in a template similar to GW1? Instead I have to sit there and refund all my traits and make my build from the bottom up again. You would think Anet would have thought of this, since it’s really not a complicated idea and they had a very similar build saving system for saved skill templates in GW1.

I’ve been shopping around for some desktops and found two at pretty cheap prices. My only question is, what kind of performance would I expect on each of these computers in PvE, PvP, and WvW?

First one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Refurbished+ENVY+Desktop+-+12GB+Memory+-+2TB+Hard+Drive/8116065.p?id=1218864356459&skuId=8116065&st=HP%20refurbished&cp=1&lp=5#

-3rd Gen Intel® Core™ i5-3470 processor
-12GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM
-2TB Serial ATA hard drive (7200 rpm)
-NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 graphics
-$550

Second one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Essentio+Desktop+-+12GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/7453044.p?id=1218846427580&skuId=7453044&st=essentio&cp=1&lp=1

-AMD A8-5500 processor
-AMD Radeon HD 7470 graphics
-1TB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 rpm)
-12GB DDR3 memory
-$520

What kind of settings would I be able to run each computer on/ what would my FPS be like?

I’m not very tech savvy, so any advice on what I should look for would be great.
