As I said in another thread, I’d love to have a 25% movement part added to Unscathed Contender.
While under the effects of Aegis you deal 20% increased damage and have 25% increased movement speed.

Most of what I’d say on traits has already been said. I would note, however, that Unscathed Pursuer does seem like an interesting way to give the guardian more out-of-combat mobility. I’d probably be inclined to just throw it in with Unscathed Contender, however. While the theoretical damage increase of Unscathed Contender is high, given the expected uptime of Aegis in typical situations I tend to regard it as being a trait you take when you’re running the Virtues specialisation and don’t expect the alternative adept traits to be useful. Adding a speed boost while Aegis is up would make it a valid, well, contender in its own right.
I was thinking of that aswell, would also open up another trait slot in virtues.

Because fully traited into Meditations would imply you’re also taking Smite Condition on heal, which is another Monk’s proc. Going into his trait changes, nothing happens to Smiter’s Boon.

Not to be rude, but theres multiple complkaints about Power Creep and 99% of your suggestions are buffs, like reduced cooldowns, increased coefficients etc. I’m sure I would love all thsoe changes, but 99% would never happen as it would just make Guardian too strong and require reductions afterwards, or other classes would nbeed the same treatment, ala Power Creep.
I’m aware of that.
As I said at the top every class should get the same “treatment”. “Overbuffing” and then balancing is (imo) better than just trying to make bad or utterly broken skills good with a 5% increase in dmg/duration etc.
That mentality is why we still have ~50% unused utility skills and ~70% useless traits.

Making guardians choose between Absolute Resolution and Indomitable Courage is a huge no-go. This would kitten off the vast majority of guardian players. I’m also against the Strength in Numbers and Battle Presence change as this leaves medi guards with weak choices for our master-trait in Valor. I’d prefer a communal defences (with reduced ICD) and battle presence merge if anything.
Glacial Heart would be the go-to trait like it was before they swaped it to virtues

I think we can all agree that with the current balance mentality toward the guardian we are not going to be “meta” anytime soon.
So this is my take on how to improve the guardian to bring him back into the meta with hopefully a lot of build diversity (we are all tired of just playing medi/medi trapper or shouts)
Some of these suggestions may feel OP but in a perfect world these changes would only get through if every other class gets such a big overhaul aswell.
My goals with the guardian in short:
Increase build diversity (power dps, condition dps, support/heal)
Make every weaponset playable (for different roles/build)
rework spirit weapons
update the “role” of the guardian to be sort of the “opposite” of the necromancer

Part 2
Let’s start with the basics: Virtues:
- Virtue of Justice (F1): CD reduced to 20 seconds.
- Virtue of Resolve (F2): CD reduced to 40 seconds, now converts 1 condition into a boon upon activating.
- Virtue of Courage (F3): CD reduced to 60 seconds. Aegis Refresh rate changed to 20 seconds.
With a bit stronger “vanilla” virtues I want to achieve less dependancy on the Virtues traitline.
Next up: Utility Skills:
Meditations feel pretty good, only skills that need work are
- Merciful Intervention: Reduced CD to 40, changed text to “Shadowstep to the targeted area and heal around them. If no ally is present in the targeted area, this ability will heal for only 50%.”
- Litany of Wrath: Doubled the initial self heal.
These changes achieve two things, it creates a bit of choice when going for a meditation build and it gives base guardian a much needed mobility skill.
Shouts:
- Retreat: CD reduced to 30 seconds.
- Hold the Line: CD reduced to 30 seconds.
- Stand your Ground: Stability stacks increased to 10 up from 5.
- Save Yourselves: Added 10 seconds of Aegis, Stability (1 Stack) and 2 seconds of Resistance.
- Receive the Light: CD reduced to 35, doubled healing power scaling.
- Feel my Wrath: CD reduced to 40 seconds.
Retreat and Hold the Line are very basic shouts, that’s why they need a bit lower CD.
Stand your Ground stability increase is mainly because of WvW and the current “cc powercreep” introduced with HoT.
Save Yourselves needed a bit of an update in the boon department.
FMW got a bit overnerfed in my opinion.
Consecrations:
- Purging Flames: Will now convert 3 conditions into boons upon activation.
- Hallowed Ground: CD reduced to 60 seconds. Pulsing Stability increased to 3 stacks, will now also pulse resistance for 1 second.
- Sanctuary: CD reduced to 60 seconds, radius increased to 240, healing per second increased by 100%
- Wall of Relection: no changes.
Hallowed Ground never really got played, should now be viable in cc and condition heavy environments.
Sanctuary same thing as above, but against heavy melee and ranged pressure.
Signets
- Signet of Mercy: CD reduced to 90, Radius increased to 600. Active changed to “Revive a nearby downed or dead player” (preference for fully dead players).
- Signet of Courage: CD reduced to 120 seconds, passive heal halved, pulse intervall halved. Casttime reduced to 4 seconds, active can now be cast while moving and gain 3 stacks of stability upon activation.
Those 2 signets just had to high cd for what they where doing, mercy has now a nice, niche, but powerful role und Courage’s active won’t be interupted that easy. Traits will further improve signets but that will come later.
Now on to Spirit Weapons:
I believe Spirit weapons need a complete overhaul and I have drawn inspiration from the GW1 SW’s from the Ritualist
You and your allies can only have one Spirit Weapon active at the same time.
The SW will attach itself on your real weapon set and won’t have a health bar anymore.
You will loose the SW if you swap weapons.
Every weapon has a distinct role.
Traits will further increase funacionality of the weapon.
- Weapon of Warding: CD set to 20 seconds, give yourself a Weapon of Warding for 9 seconds which pulses aegis for 2 seconds every 3 seconds and you inflict weakness for 3 seconds with every 5th attack
- Resilient Weapon: CD set to 20 seconds, give yourself a Resilient Weapon for 9 seconds which pulses resistance for 2 seconds every 3 seconds and you gain “reflection” with every 5th attack for 2 seconds (while under the effects of “reflection” you reflect all incoming missiles back to their source, like sword #3 Zealot’s Defense)
- Warmongers Weapon:CD set to 20 seconds, give yourself a Warmongers Weapon for 9 seconds which pulses 5 stacks of might for 5 seconds every 3 seconds and inflict 1/2 second of daze with every 5th attack
- Splinter Weapon: CD set to 20 seconds, give yourself a Splinter Weapon for 9 seconds which pulses fury for 3 seconds every 3 seconds and inflict burning with every 5th attack, also every 3rds attack damage is split into 3 attacks (like sword auto #3)
SW’s will need alot more balancing and tweaking, but that’s the groundwork.
Weapons
Greatsword: Seems pretty well balanced right now, maybe a slight increase in projectile velocity for #5 Binding Blade.
Hammer:
- AA: Decreased to casttime of Symbol of Protection to 1 second down from 1 1/4
- Mighty Blow: Increased Base Damage scaling to 2.5 up from 1.75 (same value as True Shot), increased leap range to 480, can now be ground targeted.
- Zealots Embrace: Increased chain travelspeed by 100%, reduced casttime to 3/4 down from 1 second.
- Banish: Reduced casttime to 3/4 down from 1 second, CD reduced to 20.
- Ring of Warding: Can now be cast while moving (same speed as Whirling Wrath)
Staff:
- Orb of Light: Removed. Added a new Skill: Symbol of Judgment (Downed Skill 3)
- Empower: Casttime reduced to 2 seconds down from 2 1/2.
Mace:
- AA: Faithful Strike: Doubled base healing and healing power scaling.
- Protectors Strike: Will now block for the full duration until hit by a melee attack, can now be manually triggert for AoE Protection.
Sword
- AA: Sword Wave no longer shots projectiles.
- Zealots Defense: Can now be cast while moving, upon activation gain “reflection” for 2 seconds.
Scepter
- AA: Projectile Velocity increased by ~50%, (needs to be tested, goal is to make it not as easily strafable as it currently is)
- Smite: Is now a Symbol which pulses Fury and cripple for 3 seconds (3 pulses). CD increased to 12, reduced number of impacts to 12 down from 16.
Focus
- Ray of Judgement: Increased Projectile Velocity by 50%.
Shield:
Base shield is fine, the trait needs an update.
Torch:
- Cleansing Flame: Will now remove 1 condition from the guardian at the start and the end of the cast.

There are just a few slight changes needed for hammer to become viable again imo:
3rd AA casttime decreased to 1 sec down from 1 1/4
Zealots Embrace casttime decreased to 3/4 sec down from 1, increased “travel speed” by 50%
Banish casstime decreased to 3/4 sec down from 1
Ring of warding can now be cast while moving (same speed as whirling wrath)

pretty good changes for traps so far,
but please consider a condition cleanse on Purification.
I believe Bulwark needs to be baseline and F3 still needs a slight cooldown reduction.
Evade on F2 needs to happen, it’s very unreliable in PvP situations otherwise.
If Bulwark is made baseline you have an open slot for a new trait:
Trappers Speed: Gain 25% movement speed while having an active trap.

Dragonhunter:
Virtues:
I’d like to see a leap finisher aswell as a stun break OR 3/4 of evade added to f2 (risk of getting interupted is just to high in a PvP setting), also please increase the range to 900.
I hope you consider lowering the cooldown of f3, 75 seconds base is just to high (should be between 50-60). I’d also like to see this beeing made into a blast finisher.
Longbow:
Feels decent, only problem I have is with #5, cd aswell as casttime feels to high.
Projectile velocity on #4 could use some love to, feels a bit slow.
Traps:
Purification: Initial and Trap heal should be switched.
Make the trap pulse for 3-4 seconds when triggert and remove/convert 1 condition per pulse aswell as pulse the “Trap Heal”.
Fragments of Faith: Please add a Stun Break to this trap, traps need more defensive utility.
Light’s Judgement: Feels like the weakest trap, add a pulsing blind? Feels very niche now.
Test of Faith: Should really punish players for entering/leaving the ring, short knockdown? Stun? Something, please.
Procession of Blades: As suggested a few times before, add a whirl finisher at the start and the end of the trap and make it into a light field. Also keep the old functionality of the “Traps bleed” trait for this trap.
Dragons Maw: Doenst feel like an elite, let it affect 5 targets and add immob for 1-2 seconds.
Traits:
Minors:
Defenders Dogma: Is very unnoticable and feels anti synergy, change it to have an effect on block (burning, cripple etc.).
Pure of Sight: Again very limiting, change it to “Deal 10% more damage when endurance is not full” (which got removed in the big trait overhaul).
Majors: (I will only go over the ones that I think need more tuning)
Bulwark should be baseline wich opens up a slot for a new trait:
Trappers Speed: Gain 10% increased movement speed for every currently active trap (capped at 25%).
Big Game Hunter: doenst feel very impactful at all, something needs to be done.
Heavy Light: Add “gain 10% Increase damage when whielding a Longbow, Longbow Skills recharge 20% faster”.
Hunters Forification: Change the damage reduction to work while having condions on you.
Core Guardian:
I’ll make this one short,
Spirit weapons need a complete overhaul, for obvious reasons.
Consecrations need some love, mainly Sanctuary (lower cd, bigger radius) and Hallowed Ground (lower cd, additional effect)
For Traits:
Merge Battle Presence with Strenght in Numbers (opens up a slot in Valor).
Swap Glacial Heart in the open slot in Valor (which opens up a slot in Virtues).
Create a new Trait in Virtues which reduces the cd of our virtues by another 15% and adds back the 1200 range we lost in the big trait overhaul.

Virtues:
I’d like to see a leap finisher aswell as a stun break (at the start of the cast) added to f2.
Following this up I hope you consider lowering the cooldown of f3, 75 seconds base is just to high (maybe put it on 60?). I’d also like to see this beeing made into a blast finisher.
Longbow:
Sounds pretty good so far, I really like the “new” Deflecting Shot and Symbol of Energy, only thing I’d like to see is a bit more “oomph” for True Shot (knockdown on the first target it hits, daze/stuns – something!)
Traps:
As others have suggested Purification really needs to either remove ~3 conditions or convert 2 conditions into boons, also make it triggerable by allies.
We need more utility on the traps, stunbreaks/stability and/or “defensive” conditions like weakness and chill.
Dragons Maw should be able to hit 5 targets.
Traits:
Good changes so far, but I really would appreciate for Bulwark beeing baseline.
We still could use a longbow cd reduction trait, but not flat -20%, be creative! Less cooldown for every enemy hit with True Shot (~2%?) less cooldown for activating a virtue (~5%?) surpise us.
Defenders Dogma is kinda anti synergy, maybe change this to still burn when f1 is on cooldown or just change it to “after blocking an attack, your next attack burns your target for 1 second”.
If bulwark would be made baseline we have space for a new trait, maybe some kind of movement enhancing trait which we are begging for for so long?
Example 1: For every active trap you gain 10% increased movementspeed (capped at 25%).
Example 2: For every virtue on cooldown you gain 10% increased movementspeed (capped at 25%).

I’d love for Deflecting Shot to do no damage at all, but reflect projectiles instead (with a bit “higher” reflect range, I noticed to you can’t deflecting shot warriors longbow f1 for instance).
Also you should be able to fire behind you (just like Symbol of Energy now).
Would make it into a true skillshot and not just another spam on cd for more damage skill.

– Autoattack projectile speed could be a bit faster, its very easy to sidestep (like scepter)
- True Shot is fine
- Deflecting Shot should reflect projectiles, remove base damage of the skill, would make it into a “true” skillshot
- Symbol of Energy shouldn’t cancel if i turn my character around (like the similar skills on warrior/thief) – consistency is key!
- Hunters Ward is fine
Traps:
feel a bit out of place but are “fine”, maybe add 1 sec of imob to Dragons Maw and remove 2 conditions on Purification and decrease cast time of all traps to 3/4 (they feel a bit clunky)

- Virtuous Action make it so that the active effect triggers at the start – not at the end of the cast
- Defenders Dogma should cause your next attack after blocking to burn for 1 sec

remove projectiles from 3rd autattack, just make it a tripple hit (like warrior axe auto)
Sword #3 should be castable while moving OR should lay down a new symbol.
Scepter:
Increase projectile speed of the autoattack.
make #2 a symbol and reduce the # of hits to 12 (down from 16, the symbol should have 3 pulses, 5 if traited)
Torch:
let #5 remove conditions from the guardian aswell (1 at the start of the cast, 1 at the end)
Shield:
let #4 apply 5 seconds of weakness to foes (+aegis to allies if traited)
#5 should be a water field and castable while moving and last 4 seconds (behaves like sanctuary, maybe add +5 seconds of recharge)
Hammer:
decrease the casttime of the 3rd autoattack to 1 second (down from 1 1/4)
let #5 be cast while moving (like warrior hammer #5)
Mace:
Make #3 a “toggle” (let me either choose to block or double tap the skill for the aoe protection)

Ich bin Daniel aka “Warangel Eldrith”, nach einer etwas längeren Pause (2-3 Monate) möchte ich wieder GW2 spielen und suche dafür eine kompetente Gilde.
Erstmal was zu mir;

würde gerne ca. 3 (auch gerne öfter, darüber kann man reden) mal die Woche im WvW raiden (sPvP habe ich nur das erste Monat nach release gespielt bis r31 dann war die Luft raus, Interesse besteht aber!)
Spiele zu 99% nur Guardian also würde ich das auch gern im WvW (sPvP) spielen

GW2: eigentlich nur Velocity [VcY], etwas mehr als ein Jahr, von SFR zu Ruins of Surmia zu Aurora Glade (wegen der oben erwähnten Pause wortlos gekickt, trotz Abmeldung)

Guardian is only slow because you’re PvPing – and even then Judge’s intervention is great for speed, as is greatsword 3.
Meditations have no swiftness, but in WvW Guardians with staff, Save Yourselves and sometimes Retreat have no such speed problems.

Do you realize its 100% OP ?
First guard will be at max speed out of battle like ever
And once in fight, if they have their virtue up, they’ll be able to get 33% from virtue + 33% from swifness => +66% buff speed while in combat, so the guard will be able to run at max speed while beeing in combat ?
I think I have to explain the virtue a bit more: lets say you have VoP and 2 other virtues on passive —> youll get 33% movementspeed. If you now activate VoP (for the aoe vigor) youll loose your movement speed.
Lets say you have VoP and 1 other virtue on passive --> 22% movementspeed.
Btw +movement speed is capped at 33% ingame, so having VoP +2 virtues on passive + swiftness wouldnt give you 66%^^

Suggestion for problem 1:
Added a new virtue (Virtue of Patience, VoP), 50 sec cooldown,
Passive: Gain 11% increased movementspeed for every virtue on passive. (up to 33%)
Active: Give yourself and allies around you Vigor (8 sec).
Inspired Virtue minor trait adds 10 seconds of swiftness to you and your allies upon activation.
New Master trait added: Impatient Protector: Remove VoP’s passive effect. VoP now gives 25% increased movementspeed (permanently).
Suggestion(s) for problem 2:
Glacial Heart (Trait): Virtue of Justice now chills instead of burning.
Flashing Blade (Sword #2): Now cripples the target for 3 seconds.
Some QoL changes:
Battle Presence: Nearby allies gain Virtue of Resolve’s and VIRTUE OF JUSTICE’S passive effect.
Virtue of Courage: Reduced cooldown to 45 seconds.
Shield of Judgement (Shield #4): Create a shielding wave AROUND you that damages foes and gives protection and AEGIS to yourself and up to five allies.
Shield of Absorption (Shield #5): Create a dome around you that pushes foes back and REFLECTS projectiles. (Maybe rename to “Shield of Reflection”?)
Symbol of Protection (Hammer #1, 3rd chain): Activation Time reduced to 1 second.
Ring of Warding (Hammer #5): Activation Time reduced to 1/2 second.
Well that’s it, I got some more changes but I want to keep it simple
I hope this gets some attention, if you don’t like my suggestions please tell me why, don’t just write: “these changes suck”, “OP changes” etc.

your build is for wvw? imo 2,5k armor combined with “only” ~15k health is not enough for wvw.

Gotta say elemental vs guard fights are the funnest of all the classes. Had one a few days ago with a HoD ele, fight went on for a while.
She didnt stomp her kills either so we just kept going back and forth for the fun of it.

No offense bro but anyone who takes your hammer 1 chain 3 in their face is not worth being shown in your video. Any competent PVPer would have creamed you with your current zerg set up. All you did was show fights vs bads
Props to you for solo roaming on a zerg set up guardian but all you did was reinforce the idea that most people in WvW are so bad they make regular guard NPCs look threatening

The thing is, I wanted to show people a different build and way to solo roam around the map (cap camps, kill sentries, cap ruins etc). If you do that you wont meet alot of dedicated duelers that you would meet if you’d go to the new area in the jp or to the south “gvg” area.
I’m still trying to improve myself aswell, maybe the next video will be a pure dueling “montage”, depends on the footage I get

I rly like the extra 25% duration on retaliation, thats why I have the 10 in virtues =)

I’m running knights armour + weapons and soldier trinkets and soldier runes, its a pretty balanced setup; you have a pretty good healthpool and about 3200-3400 armour depending on your trait setup.
for traits I recommend 0 0 30 30 10 with AH and shouttraits/utilities.

I never notice but is AH like Strengh in Numbers? It works on you? So everytime you get a boon you heal?
Also, would be Glacial Heart a nice trait to go with too?Also, loved the Pokemon tone in your video
AH works only on yourself, ~72 heal per boon
Strenght in numbers is +150 toughness on yourself +5 allies
and glacial heart has 30 sec cooldown so its pretty useless :>

thanks for the reply, but i rly dislike just going 5 in radiance – I’d rather have the extra 5% boonduration and virtues cd reduction
and about defenders flame, I know its not that great, but purity is pretty random and I alrdy have 3,3k armor, so Strength in numbers isnt worth it imo.
Fire is more of a ZvZ sigil I know, I forgot to take it out

-a sort of HA mode (with its own title system, 5vs5)
and 2 GvG modes:
-GW1 GvG, with a flag stand or some other kind of 2nd objective (5vs5, but might have to increase to 8vs8).
-GW2 GvG, just to brawl around: 15vs15/20vs20/25vs25 – whatever you like.
bring back the champ title for the GW1 GvG and award extra wxp or something else for the GW2 GvG (+ a title because why not <3)

Power of the Virtuous: from 1% up to 2% again.
Indomitable Courage merged with Shielded Mind (Still called Shielded Mind, grandmaster trait)
Retaliatory Subconscious merged with Vengeful (Still called Retaliatory Subconscious, adept trait)
Permeating Wrath merged with Supreme Justice (Still called Supreme Justice, master trait)
Elite Focus: Elite Skillst last longer and recharge 20% faster, master trait.
Unscathed Contender: Deal 20% more damage while under the effects of aegis. Aegis now stacks up to 3 times (which means up to 3 blocks, if you can provide 3x aegis ofc), master trait.
New Grandmaster Trait: Master of Virtues: All your Virtues recharge 20% faster.
I aim to create diversity for the Guardian Virtue line and I hope it gets used more often. The Virtues of the Guardian are his trademark, but atm they are really underused and not really that gamechanging.
Added a 4th Virtue (Virtue of Defiance):
Passive: If you get hit by a melee attack your attacker and nearby foes get weakness for 5 seconds (30 seconds cooldown)
Active: You and your allies inflict Chilling on the next attack (3 seconds) (Virtue recharge 50 seconds)
Inspired Virtue’s minor trait adds Vigor for 5 seconds.
Added new traits for this Virtue:
Defiant: Virtue of Defiance’s Passive effect also adds 5 seconds of retaliation to you when triggered, Virtue of Defiance’s Passive effect now triggers every 20 seconds, adept trait.
Offence is the best defence: Virtue of Defiance’s active effect also adds 5 seconds of weakness for your foes. Add fury (5 seconds) to you and nearby allies when you activate Virtue of Defiance, master trait.
