Fergyson’s Crosswalk
WvW Roamer, lover, fighter, and reckless glass cannon
I never said I wanted to play a different role, I said the class needs to have a defined role in the first place.
Then I provided examples to you of what a role is.
To repeat myself for the last time, standing on a point and decapping it is not a role, it is an action. I can decap a point and 1v1 on a warrior. Refer to the previous post. And that being said, neither WvW or PVE have anything to decap.
If thief could actually teleport 2400, land the damage and port back again at this point in the game, there would be no reason for the suggestion.
The point is that thieves are having an incredible difficult time landing any of their DPS.
You can trait and gear for max dps, and entire burst might only net you 3? 4k? damage after passive and active procs, armor rating etc.
And for alchemist, you listed possible builds, not a role. Nearly any class can fight/roam/decap/sustain etc. Those are not roles, anyone can swing a weapon.
Here is an example of a Role:
The class that provides healing to everyone.
The class that specializes in long range dps
The class that provides AoE spam
The class that specializes in effectively tearing down bunkers (see Tracer in Overwatch as a prime example)
(edited by Warhawk.7095)
I am refering mostly to a combat role, not so much a decap and run away role.
Granted these are just two simple tweaks I thought of while sitting on a wall in WvW watching everyone else participate in massive fights in which I have nothing to contribute.
That is not to say that I advocate both of these tweaks at the same time, probably just one or the other.
Anyways, the main Issue i see with the thief is that it has no role to fill anymore. Its nearly impossible to skirmish in aoe-warfare without passives and stability, and it is also a waste of time an initiative to try and burst through a single target’s passives, blocks, invulns, and armor rating.
So what does the forum think about either of these tweaks?
1. Assassin’s Signet, instead of 15% more damage for 5 attacks, attacks are unblockable for 5 or 6 seconds.
2. Replace one of the never-used traits with one that changes outgoing damage to be inversely proportional to an enemies combined armor rating. (meaning the thief would have to choose before entering combat if thier role is to assassinate heavy or light targets, as using this trait would effectively make it more difficult to spike down “glass” players, and much easier to target only enemy tanks)
Feel free to discuss, I’d be interested to see what people think. (Aside from those false-flag “thieves” who believe that winning 1/30 fights is too much, and that thieves need to be further stripped bare and sat in a corner) I thought they were good suggestions considering that they don’t actually increase or decrease damage, they only change the nature of how it can be applied based on situation.
“Bug Fixes: Thief still exists in game, thief was removed from game this patch, all former thief characters have been converted to Dragonhunters so as to keep a healthy 100% Dragonhunter population in wvw and pvp”
How does Anet manage to create the worst meta in the history of the game?
Boonshare abuse, Overloading classes with passive defenses, Near perma block and invuln on multiple classes, People simply out-regenerating the highest DPS builds possible. Zero incentive to take risks or improve as a player.
All this for an agonizing amount of time, and then when talk of a balance patch comes, people are ready to be delivered from this hell and enjoy the game again, when boom the balance team kept every single aspect that was killing the game and buffed those classes instead with lower CD’s and higher damage.
Thats about it man. The company philosophy of “they wont leave Gw2 because there’s nothing else for them to play” no longer applies when people start deciding that playing nothing is better than this.
Its fitting that OP didn’t even mention thieves, considering they are no longer a supported class in Gw2.
Base warrior still has access to stability, EP, and berserker stance, any one or two of which is more than enough to secure a stomp in nearly all situations.
I’m pretty sure OP is right. My roaming crew and I have been fighting some tough fights vs all these basic bunker comps, and I threw a target with the intention of us downing him 3-4 times for the perms death as that is the only way to overcome the horrible state of small man balance in this meta. We ended up downing the same bunker DH 5? 6? Times in a timespan of about a minute and a half, the first 4 very quickly and yet he kept coming. I remember after about the 3rd quick death after rezzing you are not supposed to have a downstate.
Depressingly accurate.
I saw an Anet employee holding a weapon the other day. The sight of it made me feel violated. I simply cannot believe that they are allowed to participate in combat on the same level as everyone else! Something must be done!
OP claims to be from a “military background”, I cannot even imagine how you managed to deal with that when something as inconsequential as a banner draped over a keep wall has you this kitten. The server is not gaining an advantage in any measurable way, and you are not being victimized. At this late point in the game you should be thrilled to know that Anet even logs into wvw.
^ it has for the 3 years I’ve played the game.
FC was really the one getting shafted for the past 2 months, not so much DH, considering there were hardly any DH playing WvW to GET shafted.
As soon as the matchup took a dive and it was a guaranteed loss every week, DH’s guilds left the server, and most of their pugs quit playing aside from a few minutes each day for dailys. FC’s wvw core continued to play throughout the entire link, which is really not a whole lot of people, but in the end pretty much the only people doing anything were the little FC guilds, who spent the whole time fighting without the support of our “larger” server ally DH.
The DH players complaining are the ones who didn’t jump ship with the rest of thier server and suffered along with the rest of us for it.
Although you can imagine FC’s frustrations when we got DH, and mapchat trolls started talking trash, making it seem like the guest server was useless, then all thier guilds bailing out of the matchup and leaving FC to fight alone essentially.
You could use the DB strategy, just keep throwing more and more bodies at the walls, and when it doesn’t work bring MORE people and keep throwing them at the walls until either they break or the defenders have to sleep.
I want to know who thought it was a good idea to link FC and DH. Seriously? FC is the only medium server who didn’t get tied to a full server. You’ve got full servers tied to very high servers IN OUR TIER. Let’s hope the next time around they bother to look at thier list more than once before they Nuke a server.
Also please make it look like a big heavy tombstone, so we can show everyone how dead we are inside.
Lol that first video you’re fighting Hugh, who doesn’t even run traps? A condi thief yes, but no trapper, and certainly no “ghost thief”.
Wow people are dense. Nobody is asking for thief to be the “best” in everything. They are asking for the ability for a thief to at least PARTICIPATE in a fight. And it wouldn’t be as hard or as drastic as you melodramatics make it out to be. Here’s a few TINY tweeks that would make thief playable. Bring back that 1s of stab when coming out of stealth to provide an option for dealing with all the mindless passive CCs. Give a few more options for unblockable, so when you risk your entire hp bar to get just one hit in, it will have a better chance to make it through the perma-block / invuln spam. People are always complaining “thief must be OP it has dodges!” What good are the extra dodges when you basically cannot engage a single competent player on a meta class? Those dodges are meant to be the thiefs defensive COMBAT answer to all the rediculous sustain creep everyone else enjoys. The problem is that while thief has the damage to theoretically deal with thier sustain, they have no means of applying it.
Ok, and how do you suggest this balancing is done? Buff thief’s vitality? Add unvuln’s?
I can’t think of a single +survivability that wouldn’t break the profession and make it OP.
Why would you quote and reply to my post without reading it?

Wow, this thread had devolved into the most asinine complaint imaginable. No wonder nobody takes these forums seriously. If the Anet flag over a tower giving it +5 supply upsets anyone this much you seriously need to find something else to do with your time.
How about we get back on topic now? I want to see some grade A whining to make sure that FC and DH and manually split apart regardless of new pairings.
I used a quote from the actual OP about ANeT claiming towers for NSP. So it is fair game to talk about what ANeT is doing to and in WvW.
You’re right, you are free to moan and complain about something utterly pointless and inconsequential to the game if you choose. But don’t expect to get taken seriously.

A rifle…. Stay outside the AoE, GG.
Realistically, either bring more thiefs, or find out where the scrapper lives, go to thier house and hit thier CPU with a super soaker. (But get close, thief only has 900 range)
Hey check your mail in a few hours I think I can get you some people to fill it out.
The stat difference for an exotic weapon vs an ascended weapon is literally 5 points.. per stat… 85 —-> 90
That in no way translates to 10% dmg gain
If 10 pts of stength = 10% dmg, then 1 stack of might = 50% dmg gain. smh.

What? ^ Basically nothing?
By the way, I’ll be happy to participate in the tournament. (Assuming of course I’m not going to be forced to drop a ton of gold so that my armor is orange instead of pink when i hover my mouse over it.)
BV giving unblockable is finally a chance to tear into these bunkers.
How about we quit feeding into the idea that we are such an under privlaged class that you have to degrade one weapon set in order to balance out making another one even playable. How about you just ask for D/D to be buffed and leave it at that? How about when thief becomes a good enough class to even rate a role in this game again then MAYBE you could have a case for asking something to be nerfed, but until then anyone who asks for a self nerf either is pretending to be a thief in order to do more damage or deserves a boot to the face.
I just want to be able to land my attacks. Is that so much to ask? I prefer fighting a 40k hp reaper than a 15k hp DH who is immune to damage 80% of the fight
Why don’t you just soak the damage? Or try a block? Or a reveal? Or a stun? Or CC? Or just kitten out a bunch of traps? Or maybe just anticipate his strike window based on what kind of ability he used to gain stealth. You have optIons here. Remember that thief is the lowest survivability in the game and gets 70% of thier attacks nullified against Inluns and passive abilities.
Just add “attacks are unblockable for 6s” to one of our sigils. That would help.
Oh and “reducing the scrappers survivability”. Good. Good.
I feel bad for anyone who attacks one of the thieves whose been fighting the good fight this whole time when they finally take some of the chains back off. Thief 2016 “The Revengening”. Winter is coming.
Our next major balance update will be released at the end of January, and after the new year we plan on sharing the high-level details of those changes, giving you an opportunity to provide feedback to our design team.
Allegedly, although you assume they would have mentioned something by now.
I liked my build before HoT better, but that was before they nerfed condi clear, removed the precision to vitality trait, jumbled the rest of the traits into terrible places and finally removed guard stacks from wvw. After that pile of nerfs daredevil became the better option the second HoT hit stores. With all the new reveals dumped on top of the nerfs to baseline endurance, the added mobility of daredevil tops anything on base class now. But like I said, if I could choose between my build today and my build 8 months ago, my old build would win hands down.
Yes I must agree. Although it wasn’t a direct nerf to Thieves, Indirectly they nerfed our HP pool Gain, by removing Guard stacks. Which to this day still don’t really know why. Does anyone know why? I don’t really understand why the majority of all classes have a reveal debuff either. My build 2 years 8months to 2 years ago still works pretty well with no complaints from me. “lightning Blade”. But I guess i am just used to playing the High risk/Reward spec.
I still stick close to my Core Thief.
This is the build I had ~8 months ago pre nerfs. Your standard 0/30/30/10/0 (but experimenting with exuberance runes and crafted furious maint. oils) Here is a screenshot of the stats with full stacks in wvw (those sigil stacks are power).
Just look at that power, the precision, and the crit without fury/might or anything. And my HP pool =[
I had developed a really successful “vitaility cannon” concept with reduced stealth CD’s, tons of damage, and staying power to chew up zerg back lines without having to retreat as much so the enemy would be more constantly pressured.
I don’t mind sharing the build now since it has been obliterated, and i run something entirely different now >.<

^ pretty sure the developers have abandoned this class/forum section and will never see it or care.
Well, since the two above me have broken the chain, I will review Frostfang’s charr. Normally I don’t go in for Charr’s but your colors are nice, and look well planned. =]
Also with those gloves, it looks like you have even MOAR claws! Defiantly looks like someone you might meet wandering around Frostgorge. 7/10
And here is my pride, my joy, my thief, my Rogue Spectre. Once a precise and deadly addition to any team, now mostly remembering wins instead of creating them thanks to the “balance” overlords.
While you’re at it could you make it possible for a thief to participate in a fight in pvp? Either buff thief or just finish removing it from the game, I’m tired of this in-between purgatory of kite until dead, and getting reported for not changing classes before matches.
Thieves on patch day be like:
They DO exist! Although it quickly logged out after realizing it was spotted.
And while the funeral is over, we may still fondly remember our fallen thiefs, a once proud class. Post a picture of your beloved thief, and remember them as they were…
RIP Rogue Spectre: A true sneaky kitten… a capable scout, and an accomplished assassin. Cut down in the prime of her life by the very ones who coded her…
Can we dig him back up OP? I think he is still breathing down there loool.
But what sort of life would it be? Hooked up to a respirator waiting to die? These thiefs chose to die with dignity, rather than be reduced bit by bit into total annihilation, by the very beings who created them…
Guessing this was ignored for the patch?
Thank you all so much for making this happen, and especially to Cynz.9437 for getting the time together, and the additional advertising within the [Teef] Guild message of the day!
I wish I had been able to be online, but alas I was on campus all day.
Would be nice if they notice and fix this exploitable thief bug I came across today too =[
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/BUG-Downed-thief-visible-in-stealth
Today I fought a thief in WvW, and when I downed him while he was inside his shadow refuge, I noticed that I could see the location of his downed indicator on my minimap, even though we was still in stealth. Instead of simply using the map to walk over to him and finish cleaving away at him, I whispered him, and he agreed to confirm my findings.
Attached are two screenshots for verification.
^ Thanks! I got real busy real quick this week. I’ll update the title.
