From ANet.

Basically, word came out that there were some unpopular things coming, but they were for the Chinese version only. The Devs posted and made it clear that those things (Like the VIP System) were not going to be in the game for us.

Thx Palador. I did some digging and seems like the version differences are aimed to monetization and user acquisition/retention. Any other major system than VIP that you know off?

Which brings me to topic, this version changes doesn’t seem to reflect a proper difference in game balancing, therefore I would assume drop rates remain the same overall.

Although there is plenty of drop research out there made by users, I would be very interested in officially knowing more about ArenaNet’s use of multiple drop tables. Or even if they still use them.

Found this topic on the subject so I will condense it here:

For those that have no idea of what this is about, some background from Gamasutra

From the Devs part I would like to know how that Chinese decision affect the company and if that means only cash boxes (a.k.a. Black Lion Chest) or every, single, container in the game. (Champion Bags, PvP Boxes, PoP Up Chests, Crafting Bags. Just to mention a few.)

Also, where did you guys get this information that US/EU version is different from the Chinese one?

Definitely would like to see Courtyard back. Hopefully even getting a queue by it, like Stronghold has. Sure would revive the map. Maybe add it to Stronghold queue, as Deathmatch and Conquest don’t really go well together, but Stronghold and Deathmatch kind of can.

I would also like to see some more open spaces on it, like Battle of Champion’s Dusk has.

Upcoming Ranked Arena Map Rotation Changes

in PvP

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

Well it is too bad Stronghold is coming out of ranked PvP.
Played conquest for 3 years, I am over it. Stronghold brought me back to sPvP. I like the whole idea and strategy behind it. Liked it so much that I would stay 1~2h in queue to get those matches.

Anyway, seems like I will be out of Season 5, and since I know there are no PvE updates during ranked season I will just work on some of my achievements. Hopefully the unranked stronghold won’t die during the season.

Please let us know the team thoughts regarding Ranked Stronghold once the season is over, looking forward to it.

What's Missing from Material Storage?

Great topic Linsey, here are my suggestions:
- Blade Shards,
- Shimmering Crystals,
- Mystic Forge Stones,
- Unidentified Dyes,
- +1 Agony Infusion (if possible all of them…),
- Gifts of Exploration,

And some unlikely things that would be great to get deposited with “deposit all materials”.
- Tomes of Knowledge,
- Potions of PvP Reward,
- Blood Rubies
- Petrified Wood
- Rotten Eggs
- Toilet Paper

Thank you!

Hey, thank you guys. My post got merged in here.

I would still like an official message from the team about the issue, since people can go on strike to help out the cause even though they are not directly affected by it.

It is also a great opportunity to learn a little bit more about the process of voicing over that goes into our game.

Dear Arena Net,

Last friday the actors guild went on strike against many big studios in the game industry. Details “here”: http://www.sagaftra.org/sag-aftra-strike-against-video-game-employers.

Is our beloved game, and the awesome voice over we have, going to be affected by such strike? If it does, what is Arena Net’s position in this situation and what is it doing to make things better?

Thank you!

Ember Bay Feedback

in Living World

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

First of all congratulations for a great release!

The story was very enjoyable (my favorite so far), the new map is really nice too. Hard to traverse, but once you get all masteries it becomes much easier. The though spots… Oh well, it is a volcanic island, so not being picky.

One thing got me really frustrated though is the Jumping Puzzle. Not because it is hard or anything of sorts, but because of the very ending of it. By the final jumps, after the long glide, you have to climb up those pointy rocks… But if you fall (and you probably will) there is no safety net! That means you have to go back aaaaaaallll the way from the last checkpoint, unlike the rest of the jumping puzzle…. Fine…. BUT, may the spirits guard you, if you fall in the wrong side of the rock and end up outside the volcano…. You are done! It doesn’t remember your checkpoints, you have waypoint back and start from scratch.
For such a long jumping puzzle, I thought it was unnecessarily punitive, like on Skyhammer where you used to make one mistake and get heavily penalized for it (falling to your death).

Anyway, looking forward to the next update!
See you in Tyria!

Gift of Battle Feedback [merged]

in WvW

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

I’ve never made a Legendary before, so am I able to put one together now doing WvW only?

No! Even if you manage to get everything you need for it on WvW only (which can be done) you would still need PvE Map Exploration for them.

@ArchonWing, @CaptainCaveman, the problem is not how to get it. Even in the most extreme case, like Najten, where the playing is very sporadic and short, getting there is a matter of time. We play WvW, we’ll get there eventualy.
The problem is those like Shanks R Us, and me, that already played enough WvW and saved enough badges to get the gift we wanted, but got penalized for managing inventory space by keeping currency “in cash”.

Some of us are done playing WvW and wouldn’t like going back to it, some of us even played WvW ONLY for those badges. Doesn’t matter the case, those player (us) feel robbed of their efforts towards the Gift of Battle.

What happened here is clear, there was an intention to change a currency that was very poorly communicated. And that is even for us, that care enough to come here, read patch notes and talk about it. How many more players are only going to figure this out once they get their 500 badges and look for that NPC with no success?

For everyone else, you can convert your badges of honor into Badges of Tribute (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Badge_of_Tribute) and sell them on the Black Lion Trading Post for some gold, but the price has been dropping steadly since the update, so you might want to consider your options: https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/badges-of-honor

Discussing in-game someone pointed out to me, here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-19-2016/first#post6122828

WvW—REWARD TRACKS (Beta)
Reward tracks have been added to World vs. World. These are nearly identical to the reward tracks you find in PvP, except that some rewards have been adjusted to be geared toward WvW players. One of the tracks offers players a chance to earn the new WvW-exclusive Triumphant armor set! Also, once the reward tracks feature exits beta testing, the Gift of Battle legendary crafting component will no longer be available as a vendor purchase and will be earned via its own reward track.

Seems like it is our fault for playing the game and missing the small print in the biggest update log ever. Good communication job devs, well done! And I even watch Points of Interest every week, not like I am not following what you guys do…. Screw me anyway, I suppose. =/

Update: Kitten you and your personal life plans, go play again!

If you guys are making such a radical change, might as well give us a couple days to buy the gift for those that ALREADY played enough to buy it. I like the reward track system, what I don’t like is been FORCED to replay part of the content just because you decided to make sudden a change with the currency system!

Stronghold queue time feedback

in PvP

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

style, you are right. My point was that coming from ruby to diamond immediately skyrocketed the queue times. But then might be more interesting to increase the range of matchmaking for Stronghold, to compensate the lack of players.

I would like to give an update on this status: Solo/Duo queuing has been better (probably because more people reached diamond now), around 15min average, but today I had a very bad experience after 2x 40min queuing. We were 5, after the first 40min someone had to go. After another 40+min the party was gone…. Had 2 hours to play, most of it spent sitting and waiting, not fun. =(

My friend made a suggestion: Allow us to see how many players are queuing on that mode, so we can have an idea if we’re not getting a match because there are no players or just division matchmaking. That way we can make an informed decision between going unranked or keeping our hopes high.

Thank you, see you in the battle field!

Evan, you said something I mentioned in my other post (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Stronghold-queue-time-feedback/first#post6044418), which is the possibility to do something more. Be doing stuff on Tyria or even playing a unranked match, like you mentioned.

I suggest an “infinite” courtyard map for everyone that is queueing. So you can go, kill people, try your build, get a “warm up” or whatever.

Stronghold queue time feedback

in PvP

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

Hello PvP team, this is a beaten topic, so I’ll get straight to it: I only play Stronghold and never had problems getting a match until now. Even in Sapphire queues were bellow 10min, solo, duo or in full 5 people team. Unfortunately yesterday I perceived a steep increase when I jumped from Ruby T6 to Diamond T1. That one single pipe of difference made queue time shoot from average 12min to 30min!

The following screen shot is from the queue I gave up, right after reaching Diamond, right in peak daily reset time. If by any chance you guys don’t monitor queue times that never get matched, please consider doing so. After all, if a player only has 1 hour a day to play and has to spend it’s majority hanging out at HoM waiting for matches, at some point he will just give up and stop all together. (I really would like to see the free-roam in Tyria back in place.)

Thank you, see you in the battle field!

Is this a fair match to lose a pipe for?

in PvP

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

It could be, no doubts, as I didn’t even reach the lord in time (even though 4 of us were defending), but I don’t think that any of this players would suck that much, even more for those three Division IV guys.

I suppose that what really upsets me is loosing pipes as a team full of solo queues fighting against a full pre-made team with 3 of them been 2 divisions away from me. On top of the stomp, which didn’t feel any better.

Regardless of how I feel about it, I don’t think this was a fair matchmaking to lose a pipe for, but we – as players – lack the tools to see the reasons for which we got paired on this match. All I want to is give some feedback for fine tuning of the matchmaking system.

I was thrilled to talk with so many known faces from Guild Wars 1, as well as others that joined the team more recently but have such diverse background and strong spirit that gives the impression they have been there all the time.

It was my fist time meeting developers from ArenaNet and even more of a treat for a long time and from a far away fan (november will be 9 years, not 7, just checked on GW1). Been received with all the love and passion that everyone have for the game, and how much effort each one of you stir in the mixture, makes me love this community even more.

Thank you so much for the great experiences, unforgettable moments, friends made, and hours of entertainment that were all thanks to the amazing work that all of you do every day! Wolf Fivousix.4319

Things I liked:

  • Overload skills feel powerful enough for the long cooldown they have.
  • Overload skills do not impair mobility despite being channeled skills.
  • Shouts utilities have a concentric wave/bubble effect when activated, really good to get used to the range of the skills and to actually see the spread, giving a distinct “feel” to those skills.

Things I did not liked:

  • Changing attunements while overloading cancels the overload even if the overload just started, unlike channeled skills like “Churning Earth”.
  • “Signet of Air” is the only instant cast utility breaking channeling (which is a big deal now with overloading).
  • Give elementalists some cool HUD effects for overload, like the ones Revenant and Guardian have.

Vet players got more!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

If there is a greedy one here, is ArenaNet! And it does it by not acknowledging or even giving value to the players that keep making their business with micro-transactions, bringing their friends to the game, keeping an active community.
50 dollars is 10 dollars short of a full NEW game out there (and HoT is an expansion), or a couple “Game of the Year” editions for games released more than a year ago, or even many more indie/bundle games.
And make no mistake, because everything that you experienced WILL be resold in-game, just as the Living Story is already. So the new player CAN experience that. That is one of the reasons why me and many people are able to bring their friends to the game.

On top of that we have the arguments presented by Doghouse on https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/ANet-you-have-a-moral-duty-here , and that is also a very valid one!

How could they have solved this without lowering their profits on the Standard Edition? If they had made the core-game part of the Delux or even Ultimate Editions. By giving those that ALREADY got the core-game something valuable for being here all this time, skins, gems, titles, miniatures, dyes, whatever! Something that will tell others that THIS veteran here have been around for a while, just like God Walking Among Mere Mortals do for those that played GW1. Simple, yet efficient.

Feedback - Stronghold

in PvP

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

A quick background: I am a Death-match kind of player, Random Arenas from GW1 were by far my favorite kind of game, followed by Alliance Battles, Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry, but unlike those big populated maps where kills were more frequent and rewarded more points compared to capturing a spot, conquest mode in GW2 tires me really fast as kills take longer and holding a point is far more rewarding (score wise). Unfortunately Courtyard did not got enough popularity and despite been in the roster for unranked matches I do not get to play it as often as I would like. All that means one very important thing: I expect Stronghold to address some of that.

After around 30 matches in Stronghold, this is what I have to say:
1) I liked how moving even one player around different setups can have a big impact on the outcome of battles.

2) The Lord feels a little bit weak, as it can be easily kited by being a melee opponent (he also seems to change targets very often, some times walking around more than attacking.)

3) The Hero spawns make a really good spot for concentrating the action.

4) Been able to get the aggro from the guards before doorbreakers get in feels almost like cheating, not sure about this mechanic.

5) Defending is as important as attacking, but the defense doesn’t feel as rewarding as storming in, what if the NPC awarded some score too?
6) 15 Minutes seems quite generous, as most games would either end in an overwhelming stomp or get “score wise” by the last 5min.

Some considerations:
1) I would like to have an exclusive queue to Stronghold, as the same thing might happen with this map as what happened to Courtyard, which makes it really hard to come by when you are playing solo and most people don’t even want to play it. Maybe an algorithm that would take in consideration my own voting when selecting the match could help solve issue by prioritizing my favorite maps with other players that also like them.

2) I understand the limitations for having only 5×5 and I am very aware of how my favorite GW1 PvP modes “dried out” with time, but I see Stronghold having a good potential to be something more like Fort Aspenwood and less like a different conquest objective. I would like to see more focus on the full Player vs Player combats as we had in FA, or when a Lord was under attack and both teams converged to attack/defend, not in another 1×1, 2×2 or occasional 3×3 broken around the map. A full party fighting together, not splitting up.

3) Given the increased objective value, having a 4×5 because a random players is just leeching your party breaks the fun out of the match even more, and yet not much have been done to address this long issue.

I would like to finish saying that I did enjoyed Stronghold way more than regular conquest maps (not as much as the courtyard, may I add), and I think the game mode does well in working as a middle ground between Death-Match and Conquest.

Orders for new items?

Wolf Fivousix.4319

Hi! I am having trouble understanding how the items released in today’s update have buy orders, when they are not valid ID’s (don’t show on v2/items, but have listings orders on commerce/listings/XXXX).

For those items in the old times (like 31130), I know that we could place orders for items yet to be released and now despite being in the listings list they do not have buy/sell orders, but I thought that it had been fixed. So how can there be buying orders for items that does not exist in the game and have been released hours ago like 69231, 69451, 69469?

Thank you for the help,
Happy programming.

Guild Wars 1 used to give +2 slots on each "campain", and although gave none on GW:EN, which would be the corresponding expansion, Eye of the North did not added a new profession to the game.
I think it would be most fair with the players (and those very dedicated to the game that have 5+ characters already) to be given one additional slot for the Revenant.

That way, instead of querying the server, you query your own file (which is way faster than making a request for further processing). You may have to write some extra code here and there, but you get a huge increase in efficiency and the ability to do it offline, as you don’t depend on the server anymore.

Whenever the game gets an update, you just redo & compare (or just redo the whole process if you don’t want to bother comparing).

Hope it helps, happy programming.

/v2/commerce/listings returning invalid ID's?

Hi there again, sorry to bring back the topic, but considering it is already here I thought would be better than opening a new one just for this issue. It also has the advantage of having the previous conversation context, which might help.

I’m about to finish this software, but I have come across another “invalid ID”.
ID 29978, Ebon Vanguard Staff: This one, unlike the others, is a valid item (as Dr Ishamael Items X Prices suggestion), therefore when I do try to access the prices API I get the blank brackets “[]”.

Should this item, being an account bound item, be on the https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/commerce/listings and https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/commerce/prices ?

Thank you!

Hmmm, that’s a great idea! I’ll have a list with all the valid ID’s in the game and another with all the listings in the game, if something in the listings does not match a valid ID in the first list, then it’s not a valid one.

Thank you very much!

So far, yes. Since I had no need for the information before, I had no need to batch the ID’s in one request. Now with this change it is definitely a good idea, but then that’s more of a efficiency improvement than a need, so I’m leaving all efficiency changes for the “production phase” of my software, this way I don’t loose my focus on the needs of the project while the change I mentioned required only a minor tweak on the order of already implemented and working code.

But please, I would gladly accept any recommendation you could provide me for that phase!

Hey Pat, thank you for the explanation too! Let us know when they fix it, as I’m doing an extra request to the item server when I first create my database, so I don’t get the invalid ID’s on it.
I know, not efficient at all, but I see no other way of requesting confirmation for the ID. At least I “fused” the step where I retrieve the item information with the ID confirmation, but still hammering the /v2/items/ more then I wanted to, as I would not request the item information for every ID.

Hey Dr Ishmael, thank you very much for the fast reply!
That explains a lot! I’ll make a work around for those cases then and when they patch that I’ll patch mine too.

PS: Great book! Completely changed the way I look at the world!

I’m currently developing a software to work with the TP and I’m using https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/commerce/listings to retrieve all the items ID’s. BUT seems like some of those ID’s do not exist, like “29974”.
If I try to open a link with that id, https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items/29974, I get a {"text":“no such id”} answer.

The wiki says “If the root endpoint (/v2/commerce/listings) is accessed without specifying an id, a list of all ids is returned.” , doesn’t that mean that those ID’s should be an item that is currently been traded on the TP?
If not, then probably is a list of all valid items IN the game, but then again, the item doesn’t exist!

Am I doing something wrong? Did I skipped a detail somewhere?

Thank you for any help!

Mad King says: "New Halloween!"

in Living World

Wolf Fivousix.4319

Hi guys, I would like to clarify the reasons behind the idea, as I didn’t want to make the first post long, but I feel they are needed to be known with more clarity.

Guild Wars 2 is supposed to NOT be the same MMO as the others;
Guild Wars 2 is supposed to be dynamic;
Guild Wars 2 world is supposed to be a “living and breathing story”;
Arena Net has over 350 exceptional professionals today;
And Halloween (as Christmas and other seasonal events) come only once a year. (Where was Dragon bash?)

Where, in this two years of journey, did we lost the principles? Did the Living Story is all that is to change the world? Are we NOT supposed to get excited about the festivities in the game as we do in real life, just because it’s not physically real?

What I pledge for is not a overhaul of the festival contents every year, this would be insane! What I do expect from Arena Net is to make Guild Wars 2 unlike others MMO’s that just throw up used content over and over so they can grind their employees to make more money in other contents.

As an active player in the game and in the community I wish the best to my favorite game, and as a game developer I know that is hard to make new content, but not THAT hard. All I wish for, as many unheard voices all around, is that they do treat the special events in game with the care and attention of the word special, and make it memorable somehow! Otherwise GW2 will just be another MMO that repeats it’s contents over and over every year, and that is nothing special for us, the players, to care about such occasions.

Mad King says: "New Halloween!"

in Living World

Dear developers,

Blood and Madness (Halloween 2013) was a great event, I had plenty of fun, thank you for it! I just would like to officially express my disappointment in having the same content pushed over WITHOUT anything new.

Like I said, I liked the event very much the first time it came with it’s flaw’s and all! Although I would love to be able to play it again every Halloween, I would love BETTER to have a NEW Halloween and, to be honest, I was expecting to be part of a new Mad Joke, not a bad joke. I would be ok with just 2 stories as short as the Blood Prince, as long as this festivity was used to tell me more about one of my favorite character, Mad King! I’m sure the great talents that Arena Net have incorporated in it’s long history are able to provide something exciting and new while keeping some classic stuff present, like the Mad Clock Tower (another personal favorite).

If you agree with me and would like to see new content every festivity, please leave your support here.
Thank you!

Dear Pat,

Does the BL inside the game use either listings or prices? You just made me think that, if the results are cached, then the data we see in-game isn’t live? Or does it use other mechanism unavailable to the API to be live?

Thank you.

AFK reporting tool

in PvP

Posted by: Wolf Fivousix.4319

Wolf Fivousix.4319

Dear sPvP community and devs,

I know this is an old issue, but I’ve come back to sPvP after a year break just to find out that we still don’t have an “report AFK player” option.
I know it’s not the most sophisticated mechanism but it’s a start. After about 10 matches I realized that at least one player in one of the teams is always AFK after a minute or two, be it hot join or arena. That really brings the quality of the fight down.

So, I would like to express my desire for a system that would help us, the community, to help you, the developers, to flag the toxic behavior around. Hopefully that will bring the standards for our matches up. After all, why start with a sophisticated algorithm when you have thousands of eyes here, us (the community)! It could, at least, give you guys some metrics for a standard behavior that you could use.

If you agree with me, please leave an encouraging message for the devs.
If you disagree with me, please leave a comment about why you wouldn’t like such a system.

Thank you all,
Good fights.
