Linked Servers, Reset and Pips

I’ve waited three months now for the server I want to be on to open up.

The server linking has destroyed the ability of the linked servers to recruit, they are all slowly dying (because who wants to join a server where 60-85% of the people you play with changes every two months?)

So the logical thing to do if you’re on a linked server (I was on a linked server for over three years and 2000+ ranks before transferring) is to find a host server that has people you like and transfer there so you have more control over the majority of the people you play with. The problem is, many of the hosts haven’t been opened for quite a while now.

So every two months you have to hope the host you want to be on gets a link so you can transfer to it. I’ll miss reset this weekend regardless of when I transfer because I don’t know what link (if any) my preferred host will get on Friday.

We really don’t need to raise the ticket cap. That we get tickets at all and they can be used for legendary armor is fantastic. If you like the game mode you’ll get all the tickets you need eventually.

Question: Will proccing Sigil of Absorption to steal a boon with an interrupt count as “removing a boon” to proc Enchantment Collapse? Can anyone think of precedent from similar existing abilities ingame?

probably, since it does remove a boon. But it will only remove the boons and not apply them to you, if it does work.

Where I was going is proccing the AoE boon removal from Enchantment Collapse, so each person you interrupt is stripping the boons of the enemies around them.

Please scrap 1 up 1 down as soon as possible, it is terrible. It puts the player incentives in all the wrong places with the result being 5 of the 6 servers in Tier 1 & 2 at any given time are trying to come in third.

For the last two weeks, 5 of the 6 servers in Tier 1 & 2 have had significant parts of their population doing everything possible to score as little as they can while still enjoying the game mode. Everyone wants to not be in Tier 1.

1 Up 1 Down has already negatively affected player behaviors and needs to be reverted.

The last several weeks have been an exercise in tanking in the US as server communities jockey to either drop out of Tier 1 or be sure to not win Tier 2 to graduate to Tier 1. It puts the behavior incentives in all the wrong places, and is making communities more toxic.

Of course tanking has always been a “thing” in WvW, but there is a difference between tanking to change the likelihood of a matchup occurring and knowing your tanking will work.

1 Up 1 Down was an interesting experiment, but it has run its course already. Time to let it die.

Remove WvW Linking - Give Us Back Our Servers

Xernth, do you know of any FC guilds that have moved to YB? We have had several guilds move to FC because YB is full, and more recently to IOJ because YB is still full. But I am not aware of any native FC guilds that have decided to move off FC to YB. DINO, MAKI for example are still on FC.

I’ve been playing WvW since release of the game, and been involved with server leadership since the first or second month of the game on at least six different servers. And we’re nearly five years since that time. There is not the leadership, or community support, or player base to support 24 thriving NA WvW communities. To be honest, I don’t think there is even enough to support 12.

WvW is pretty boring without people fighting with you, and against you, and grouping those people so they can find each others more easily(ie server links) is needed.

I don’t know of any guilds that have moved off FC to YB, but the participation within many of the FC guilds is off 60-90% from what it was pre-link. The essential issue is, it is very difficult to recruit into an existing guild on a linked server, even to just counteract the normal churn of players through the game.

I agree there isn’t the player base for 24 communities. The courageous thing for A-Net to do all along has been to merge some servers and potentially split some others. It is understandable why they don’t want to do so, but linking is really just server dissolution that has been soft-sold to people.

At the same time, I know for sure that there are more than a handful of forum warriors that enjoy their communities, even if they are small. The notion that there are only a small set of vocal people that “want their server back” is certainly untrue, at least on FC. But there aren’t enough of those people to support a healthy wvw community on the scale the game mode supports.

A-Net needs to merge/split servers, doing their best to keep communities together as much as possible. They need to aim for similar sized player bases though. Tiering even now is a disaster, you can certainly tell the difference between even Tier 1 & 2 today. The need to reorganize to 12 or maybe 15 servers that are more evenly matched.

Been watching this thread with interest as a supporter of server linkings(even while they admittedly have some negative effects and are not a long term solution for WvW), and I have to wonder who actually is against server linkings? Because I talk to a lot of guild leaders, and a lot of server leader and admin types, and I don’t hear them complaining.

If there really is a majority of players against server linkings where are those community leaders, those guild leaders who oppose linkings? It is what, three or four very active posters here who claim to speak for a majority, but I have yet to see even one major server community figure speak out against linkings.

(all of this is related to NA, I know nothing about EU’s issues)

I played on FC for four years or so and knew most of the community. I wouldn’t at all be inclined to speak for them, but in my personal opinion the following is true:

It is nigh impossible to keep building the community of a linked server. You can’t sell many on “the community is great, you should play with us” when 2/3 or more of the people that will be the population that play with the server will be changing every two months. So long term, linking is the death of the linked servers.

Caliburn, I heard you say over TS near the time the YB-FC linked ended the first time, “We’ll take what we want from FC”. Its an understandable position from your perspective, I don’t blame you for having it, but it should be obvious when that is happening every two months, gradually the played base of the linked servers is going to erode away.

I love the community on FC and have lots of friends there. It doesn’t have a large enough player base to support WvW in the manner in which I want to play though anymore, so I transferred to IoJ with the last links because I like the YB community too and YB isn’t open. Yes, I’m a hypocrite, talking about how great FC’s community is, and I just left it.

What’s the solution? The best solution is a huge influx of veterans and having those veterans go to the linked servers to populate them, but that is wildly improbable.

Equally improbable is asking the people on the stacked hosts to de-stack and leave the communities they enjoy.

The best solution is to have A-Net determine what the ideal population at peak time on a server looks like and then determine how many servers in a multiple of 3 the total population supports. If BG, JQ, etc are too big for that size, break them into two servers each. Relink everything to balance the population, make the links permanent and dissolve the unneeded extra servers.

Yes, the linked servers are going to rage, and if needed the split servers are going to rage too. On the linked server side, I guess all I can say is long-term the linked servers are dead anyway, its just A-Net hasn’t had the courage to put them out of their misery to date.

One you reset everything, then try to do a better job of controlling population movements than was done last time.

The thing is, Rev weapon cooldowns are so short you can mix up much more than people typically try.

For wvw, I’ve settled on Mace/Sword and Sword/Axe as my two weapon sets with Hammer swapped in once and a while for disorganized zerging. Mallyx/Glint for legends of course. I always run Invocation/Glint, when roaming I mix in Corruption, zerging Retribution for the stability on dodge.

With Mace/Sword, you have your condi-weapon with short CDs and sword-4 for defense on a 10sec CD.

With Sword/Axe you have evade frames on sword-3 and a weapon for chasing/mobility/control with axe.

Admittedly, I’m more of a hybrid than pure condi type build.

The cannon and mortar placements in DBL are the most hilariously bad ideas I’ve ever seen in several cases.

Let’s see, if I walk out onto that narrow un-sheltered ledge over the bad guys, I might be able to get on the cannon. What could possibly go wrong?

I understand what you mean, and you’re right to a certain extent, but walls need to do more than what they do in DBL to be viable.

Making walls more useful to defenders using their character’s skills is a good idea.

Giving less incentive to use siege is not. Defensive siege is not overpowered; it is currently the only thing that gives the side with less players a reasonable boost. Yes, making walls something other than a kill zone for standing on them would help, but not enough.

Specifically removing PPK for kills using siege is an awful idea. The big server in any matchup already has a huge PPK advantage because 30 v 15, or 10 v 5 or 4 v 1 is obviously an advantage in getting kills. We don’t need to remove one of the few ways the smaller server has to try to even things up a bit.

Both Superior Sigil of Leeching and Superior Sigil of Draining do not appear in the combat log when they trigger in WvW, and I have had trouble confirming they work at all. Anyone else experience this?

You don’t run a dungeon or adventure once and get the reward daily every day thereafter. Play the content for the rewards.

Since we can’t have the convenience of a place to craft in WvW, lets also fix some PvE issues like parking toons at the end of jumping puzzles.

Make it so when you log out, you are teleported to the nearest waypoint stone if you don’t log back in to that toon within 15 minutes. That way if you want the PvE jumping puzzle rewards each day you need to actually gasp do the jumping puzzle.

Then all the toons parked at jumping puzzles that used to craft in WvW can be moved back to the cities to give the illusion of civilization.

You said it perfectly, without double stability on dodge, Mallyx would be completely unplayable. That’s not a good thing.

In Mallyx, the weakness is direct damage which you have very few answers to. You also don’t have lots of energy regen to get additional dodges in Mallyx. The answer to glass Mallyx revenants is power builds.

Or actually rework Mallyx to become viable. You cant carry whole legend on 3 traitlines cause thats how much you have to invest into Mallyx right now. Corruption for resistance, retribution for stab on dodge, herald for second stab.

Look at Shiro..its good cus it work with any traitline. Nerfed Shiro will end the live of revenant. Even with it kitten joke heal its in fact the olny thing we got. Nerf riposting shadows and were done.

I’m with you there, Mallyx being reworked along with your change might work. You’re also right that Shiro does all the heavy lifting right now and a nerf to Riposting Shadows would be the death knell for doing anything but standing back with hammer.

I know you think WvWers are terrible, and there’s no question I am bad, but I’m also afraid to see my two stacks of stability go in wvw environments without some kind of compensation. The stability is the only thing that enables semi- or full frontlining with Revenant in wvw, and I’d really tike to do something other than stand in the back with a hammer.

You guys accusing the OP of doing this as a karma train are way off base. The OP plays on my server, his strategy is to laboriously flip camps and create golems, and then his team of 3-5 people uses 2-3 golems to cap structures. He’s very good at what he does and it is very far from blob karma training.

The (undocumented, of course) change is another nail in the coffin of small groups. As Diku said, the blobs going to move their golems with mesmers, its the smaller groups this change hurts.

The participation system should have never gotten out of Test, or even concept really, it needs some easy tweaks to improve the user experience.

The issues are glaringly obvious to anyone that has played the HoT PvE maps. Participation takes significant effort and time to build, which most would agree is fine. The problem is any form of map switching dumps participation:

1) Get DC’d, 0 participation for you
2) Want to help a friend in another zone real quick, there’s an hour of events you did down the drain
3) Even INVOLUNTARYserver closure of your map, that dumps you back onto a different version of the same map, resets your participation!

It is unbelievable this user experience was let out of the development environment for actual customers, but fortunately the fix isn’t hard.

Instead of counting participation for a map and resetting on map change, use the same counting system but keep track of it per Zone (regardless of the instance of that zone you’re on) and reset participation for all zones at Daily Reset.

Please make this QoL change; the current system is awful.

Coalescence of Ruin and WvW/GvG

The only changes it needs are to redesign Cruel Repercussion; a 50% modifier is insane an the primary purpose it serves is to fuel angst filled screenshots.

The second change it needs is to move .2 of its coefficient from the furthest away hit to the closest hit retaining the flavor but toning down the highest impacts.

Learn the map guys. Chaba posted videos on how to get to objectives and I have posted videos on how to attack/defend the 4 towers.

Take a couple of hours on a Saturday and just roam the map. If you see an enemy let him be, just focus on the exploration, forget about defending rampart, repairing walls, blob with the blob for bags, forget about everything. Roam the map for 4 hours and you will learn it.

The amount of time you spent complaining about ho hard the map is to learn on these forums, you would have already learn it by now. Be productive

The map is worse once you learn it, because disbelief in how poorly implemented it was gives way to despair that anyone responsible for an entire game mode involving thousands of users thought this deliverable might be a good idea.

It would take away one of the most enjoyable aspects of WvW, complete customization you have to work at a little. You can do what you want, and if you want to change you need to go out in the world and make a little (or a lot) money to do so. And ascended construction is a nice long term goal.

I just got asked to switch to my 4th Dragon’s Stand map within the same two hour cycle because the maps were under populated. This map has only a handful of people it seems also.

Nerf the two damaging skills that carry the class (other than the respectable auto-attacks) by 33% and 50% respectively, very subtle changes there, and buff nothing that matters.

Oh, and nerf might stacking also, by “only” 38%.

Great ideas, it is difficult to imagine why you’re receiving a chilly reception in the Revenant forum. This is some kind of sick joke, not constructive “balancing”.

Whoever imagined that after beating the final open world boss in the final zone of the expansion, players would want to put up with the timed loot chase.

What a nightmare; really awful design.
