I have been looking at weapons and gear and it seems to me I am still viable to a point. I see they raised trade skills somewhat higher. I am guessing there are exclusive pvp armor/weps as well but I have not found them. Also see new currency that I am trying to figure out heh.

Looks like PvP is still a Zergfest which is what I am not looking for. Hoping to find a guild/Clan that runs light to increase personal gratification. So much to learn…..

My earlier post is how I view a lot of folks that play this game. Very Blind and a slave to the negative experience I feel when I play. To cap it off, there is about zero customer service. The only attention you will receive on a regular basis is an infraction. Sympathetic? Empathetic? or maybe uncaring and a little unjust. Sends the wrong message to the playerbase, a playerbase that wants a rewarding system and cares about the players and their in-game and forum experience.

Will this happen? We will see in January/February. The non – trinity game recreation needs an overhaul of sorts on many different levels.

Everyone should know by now, it is to control the Bot population. If you look around, you never ever see bots in this game. GW2 has the Best Bot control of any other MMO I have ever played.

The economy is already pretty solid and always has been. Just make a crafter and sell your wares, you will make a ton of money! Also please ensure you have a full set of MF gear and run dungeons, it is very easy to make money in this game if you do it the right way.

I think it is a brilliant system with MF. I love how I can get into a pug and put on all magic find gear and make a ton of money. Why should I care about the others in my group who try to max dps and ensure they contribute to make the group succeed? Everyone can revive players, why care if I die and make them work harder? They have the gear for it to allow me to succeed. I love this plan! Thanks guys for supporting me! Please never change this, I love making money!

end game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZaiTh.6378

If someone is asking for end game then I highly doubt they are going to care about running the same ezmode dungeons for just skins. The game does not change although it is very fun in the first 30 levels or so but once you get 80 you realize that that is it. You have pretty much been there done that and the game loses it flavor.

If you want a super ez game to pass 30 mins or an hour at a time then it is ok since it is free but after that, there is nothing to acquire to build your toon.

Are bots able to...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZaiTh.6378

You have no idea if it was a bot. it could have been someone farming especially if they invited you to a group. Bots usually are just that Bots a program automatically controlling them for the person who is botting. Bots come from the word robot. example not an actual person playing. Framer is an actual person playing.

Very easy to tell if they are a bot or not. So you are wrong in your statement. I am guessing you have not actually seen them in GW2? The game is crawling with them. I have never played an MMO where there were so many and so Blatant.

Game is barely 4 months old and you want a new content? Like a big expansion every 3 months just so you can sit 24/7 online and have something to do? And if it could be for free…
Every other decent MMO pumps out new content no sooner than once a year. Every other MMO that is aiming to grab some of your $$ is putting out more of same every few months. Which would be better?

Other mmo’s seem to have had no problems with big content updates within 4 months of launch. Just sayin. Holiday events are just candy that goes away after a certain time.

I 100% agree with you. Why put so much effort into a Holiday patch when the all of the other Content got truly boring in the 2nd month. Dungeons have Zero Flavor. A no Grind Game but you have to grind a lot more here than most any other game out there lol. Where is the true focus in the game? What/How do the Dev’s see/want from this game in 6 month’s?

The game is titled Guild Wars but nothing is really in place for Guilds, it is quite laughable tbh.

Almost 4 months old but people were 80 the first few days. How many lvl 80 zones are there. Scaling sown to do old content is equally un-enjoyable. Whether you pay to play or have something in place like a store to purchase misc stuff is the same. Actually if you pay attention to the Gaming community as a whole, Most if not all games are going to the F2P model. In the end they are earning more revenue with F2p or they would not change to it. So that particular discussion is a MooT PoinT.

GW2 depth of combat discussion?

ZaiTh.6378

Those who think GW2 combat isn’t deep or special… then what about the other combats in all other MMOs that are miles below GW2?
Evolution is done step by step.
GW2 already went ten steps forward with combat compared to other MMOs, give it time and it’ll become even better.

Truth be told tho, GW2 lacks combat variety due to very shallow skill/character depth.
This is ok for a release, but we’re 4 months in now. Time to stop adding world depth and start adding character depth.

I half agree with you. Your Signature does not represent GW2 imho. Could you explain to me how you think the combat is deep and special? Special I do agree with you. Everyone fends for themselves for the most part but the rest I am at a loss but I don’t want to be.

I personally don’t think there’s enough practical depth.

my hammer guardian would like to disagree with you.
- slam fire field – 3 stacks of might
- slam dark – aoe blind
- slam ethereal – aoe chaos armor (overpowered)
- slam poison – aoe weakness
- slam water – regen

my ranger would like to disagree with you.
- shoot ethereal – several confusion stacks
- shoot ice – chill
- shoot water – regen
- shoot smoke – constant blindness

i can keep going. anyway, you could not do any of the above and it would not have a huge effect on the fight, but if you choose to do the combos, you will win faster and easier. make sense?

How is it you think that 5 abilities is depth? That is quite opposite unless you are playing a solo or console game. After reading so many posts on here, it leads me to believe that GW2 is a lot of folks first MMO.

Keep in mind, that is 5 abilities for 80 levels. You won’t do much more than that….forever.

people seem to forget how grouping and group play work in this game, and why exactly the game is balanced for 5 player combat.

your stronger as a group ((not just because of DPS)) skills play off of each other and you have to facter that into your build ((who your playing with and What there running))

as a warrior should i really be useing Frenzy if i get grouped with to mezzmers each useing that time vortex thing

What you said is true for Every MMO w/exception of the last part. All you have to do is spam and dodge to win every fight. If you die rez and zerg lol. It is so simplistic that it is not fun and that saddens me =(

Bruno is also 100% correct. Gear selection should be a mitigating factor when trudging through the world. You should have some degree of fear that you will actually die if you are not careful. This is not the case here. I mean the Game has a beautiful gd shell in place. It could be the current MMO leader but decides to take the Fisher Price way out and it bugs me to no end…….

When it comes to the gaming community, I think the term Casual should be re-defined. Casual folks want some kind of depth and risk vs reward. Name 1 thing in GW2 that has a great reward vs the Risk, Name me 1.

It’s not so much the number of abilities you have but rather the number of options you have to consider. For example, my friend was yelling at me for not doing a blast finisher in his smoke field to set him up for a stealth stomp in a WvW skirmish.

I played EQ2 for years, by the way, which has dozens and dozens of abilities for each class., but more abilities does not necessarily mean more depth.

I also played EQ2 on Nagafen. I was in the Top 5 for Kills on my Warlock. Also a top raiding guild on the Server. When I raided, I either Dps’s or in the MT Group with my Dirge. I cannot believe you suggested that GW2 has more of a variety and depth of game play. More abilities does mean more depth, how can you say the opposite? If I created a game that had 3 abilities instead of 5, would that have more depth? The what if someone made a game that only had 1 ability? Omg Depth Incarnate!

Combat roles, no trinity...

@ Oxstar

He clearly said this was in his own opinion and stated that he knows many people wont agree with him. However, with that knowledge in mind, im curious to why make the post in the 1st place?

@Necroseth

There are 100s of games with the Holy Trinity, Tank/Healer/DPS roles.
This is one of the only games that doesn’t work this way in combat. And because of it, It’s only of the reasons why I enjoy GW2’s Combat system soo much. It’s skill based.
You dont need crazy armor or stats to be good. You need good movement and dodge coordination as well as knowing how to Damage/Control/Support with your team.

Roles tend to rely more on Gear based. A Tank needs tanky gear and stats to soak damage. A Damage Dealer needs better gear to focus entirely on damage. A Healer needs to babysit everyone to make sure party doesn’t fail. It’s not my idea of fun.

Here is a link to “GW2 Combat system 101” topic I have https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/GW2-Combat-system-101/page/2#post964534

Hope this will help.

P.S: If playing a different game like this is not your style of game, there are 100s of other games that use the same system im sure you’ll enjoy.

This game is not skill based. If you think so, then you have never played an MMO that takes real skill to play.

Does anyone actually like this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZaiTh.6378

ZaiTh.6378

When I first started in Beta, I was not sure what to expect. Once the Game loaded and I created my character and saw the Graphics I absolutely loved it and wanted more and more. Once I grew to 80 (pretty fast leveling system), I ocd’d 100% world completion. I felt pretty good about that. Although I hate crafting, I thought I would try my hand at it. Once I had the hang of it, I mastered 2 professions in about 2 days.

sPvP was not that fun to me. I am the sort to not care about the objectives, I just want to lay waste to the enemy. I love WvW as long as it is not with the mindless zerg. When I went to my first dungeon, I thought Meh it was ok I guess. After about 5-6 dungeon runs (different zones), I really started to hate it. They are not skill based and any group of noobs could zerg that as well. Only time I would go to a dungeon after that is if I was begged and had a Gi-Normous cup of coffee next to me.

I liked harvesting for rare materials and selling them on the Broker for a profit and later after maxing my trade professions, I could make Exotic gear, kitten I was happy about that! I decided to put some on the Market and low and behold, I could not make a profit lol. I was like wtfmate. That kind of killed the harvesting and making gear for me.

The Karma Zergs were a huge turn off as well. Again, a no skill based system/Mega Grind. No Thanks. I play a Mesmer and like the class. It is fun but the name kind of made me think that it would have some kind of control over something (How did I ever get that impression????) I was wrong After all of my friends quit, I joined an active guild that liked to PvP but shortly after I joined, 80% or so of the members quit the game….

I was back to solo again. Do I look for a new guild, solo or maybe hang up my Mesmer Hat? I, like my friends want more in a game. Did I get my $60 worth? Yeah i would say that I did. The game was amusing for a bit but in the end, you are stuck doing the same thing over and over again. It really lost its replay value especially w/o any real progression.

I can’t help it but I like having a toon that I built from the ground up that actually has a place, that is needed, that is Unique with Unique abilities that can make or break a group that is Dungeon Crawling… Camp to Camp. I want there to have to be some real effort involved with some-what equal rewards. This game really doesn’t have any of the above.

GW2, imho, is a Single Player Game set in an MMO atmosphere. I liked WvW for replay value but nothing else. I have not uninstalled yet, as I am waiting for the Dev’s to smarten up and figure it out. They have a Gem here but are unsure how to polish it.
Lastly w/out going into detail, I am not a fan of the Forum Moderators, they only worsen the feelings that players have and directly impact them wanting to continue playing the game.

I so called all of this, it is actually very funny now. How can you develop a game for so long and not have lengthy discussions about what people want. Building a game is hard but concept is easy. I don’t understand it and can’t wrap my head around it. There is no such thing as common sense. I feel sorry for the Devs who wanted to do things correctly in the first place and were shutdown by the folks they work for.

What saddens me most is that GW2 had the potential to be an MMO that went into the books as one of the Greats. Not now, they did not listen to their players and have now fall into the same bag as other MMO’s such as SWOTR, Warhammer, Aion, Conan etc……..

orrrrr, just realize that as long as you passed the dungeon in a reasonable amount of time, that it doesn’t matter. Really, does it matter if you save 5 minutes in a dungeon if someone has more damage because of using a different stat other then MF.

It is just a game, don’t take it so seriously, min/maxing is not needed. Having 1 less stat that adds 5 minutes is negligible.

Just wear some MF gear, it will cause very little difference in the dungeon other then some better rewards.

Is there an epidemic on our hands of people that can’t understand the reasoning of the thread? There is absolutely no such thing as common sense because after seeing the greediness and the lack of caring for other peoples time is unfortunate. What about the single Dev’s response to the thread? More gear progression is the only way this game will last.

Yes I have a love/hate relationship with this game lol.

Thing is, they promised that this game was not going to have that. After the new tier of gear comes out and you “beat” that, then what? Another new tier? You might as well go back to WoW.. they have that perfected. Anet promised a different experience, too bad they are starting to listen to the WoW kiddies and going down this path… it will not end well.

I tried Wow and could not get past the horrible Fisher Price Graphics. Can I say it was a horrible game? No I can’t because their revenue supports the opposite. I have played multiple MMo’s since EQ1 in 1998 and have participated in 90% of every Beta for MMo’s since then. For people it is hard to go against their first true love =/

So graphics is the actualy point, and creepy treadmills aren’t anywhere near important? I’m playing a graphics, not a game? Well then, let’s uninstall.

An MMO is just like a woman. The first thing is the looks, then you have to get to know them. If they are shallow or unintelligent no matter how beautiful they are, it will never go anywhere. If they are beautiful, deep and share my interests, then it could be a great love affair.

With my comment about Wow – I hated the appearance but yeah there was a lot of great features but it did not grab me. I want the whole package. GW2 is beautiful and has the potential to be a great date but when we go to dinner, GW2 orders a salad and the conversation is dull and boring.

If you like the treadmill but perfer better graphics with a better class system Rift was actually a decent game for such. The main problem people have is if you add treadmill to a game you infact force people into it or they become useless and feel like lesser players which actually ruins the game as most players do not enjoy treadmill’s. Thats where the problem is. I as well have played in most of the beta’s since i started playing mmo’s and this is the first since my first mmo that i had that same feeling of oh wow this is awesome. That was because of the sole fact that i dident have to keep grinding gear to stay relevant and could go off helping my friends who dont play as much as me or i could do other things when i needed a change. This is the feelings a lot of players are running into now. This is why were in such a rage. ANet went 7-8 years with GW1 without increasing level or stats. That kind of game can still survive. To be honest maybe 10% of the player base actually comes to the forum’s because the other 90% actually are in game enjoying it.

I am Playing a lil bit of Rift but that game has some issues as well.

This right here is perfect. I also thought I had goals with my alts (and my main) but turns out Anet went back on their manifesto and really makes me feel like I am wasting my time playing this game now.

Never buy into that. I made that same mistake before and felt cheated. Games are an open book with a lot of empty pages. The ending will never be determined by what is written in the beginning.

This is some bad reading comprehension. They were saying that players STARTED on legendaries way before they expected, not that people HAVE legendaries before expected.

It is true that for a casual gamer (that I consider myself) getting exotics is too easy and getting legendary is way too hard. I have mostly exotics and it will be a short time till I’m fully in exotics (maybe a week or two more). After that, I’ll play WvW a lot, then I’ll probably go for 100% completion, and maybe roll some alts. But I guarantee you my gaming time will decrease.

I’m okay with this and I feel like I have gotten all of my money worth and then some. I also don’t plan to stop playing any time sooner. However I’m completely for higher gear. It gives me something to strive for and a goal to have when I log on.

The only thing you care about is the gear. You aren’t logging on because you truly enjoy playing the game, you consider gear your content. That’s not what this game is (or was). I don’t see obtaining a legendary after three months as casual. That’s quite a large amount of play time and an incredible amount of farming.

It’s OK for gaming time to decrease. That’s normal. That’s to be expected. I thought that was why we got content updates (not tier updates) and expansions, but apparently not. Apparently we are supposed to grind gear to keep us occupied. I have played hard core (several hours a day almost every day since launch) and I didn’t make a legendary my goal. I run dungeons, I WvW, I have several alts. I have so much content to complete it’s overwhelming. This new tier simply puts all my alts further way from being geared to enjoy all content, it devalues the gear (and the transmutation stones I paid money to obtain and use on suddenly second class gear) I worked hard to obtain under the premise this was max. Moving the goal line because I reached it was a garbage decision.

There is plenty of content to play, I have no idea what problem Linsey is talking about in her post because I’m not experiencing it and neither are the people in my guild. We do see a problem with new tiers.

Because like many others you look at this from only your perspective. Read my post above. If you like creating alts and playing them more slowly than someone who play’s maybe only 1 or 2 toons, who really cares? You keep using content as the chopping block of your opinion but now you will have more content for all of your alts. Are you upset that you have to do too much? I honestly dont see your point.

More gear progression is the only way this game will last.

100% Correct. People keep throwing the 1% value around but you are incredibly mistaken. Some people have more time that they can accomplish things faster. Everyone’s play time is “their” play time. Everyone has different goals and wants to achieve them. I really don’t like the verbage thrown around about hurrying through content and not enjoying the game. Again everyone is different and we all enjoy different things “differently” So many people are crying about being left behind or unable to do dungeons because their gear is so bad. How are you going to get left behind? How is it you dont already have a master crafter, how is it you dont have a full set of exotic or close to already?

I can understand how people can be quite rude about allowing people in their group and throwing the gear score around, I truly do but at the same time are you already joining dungeon groups wearing master gear? If so shame on you.

No one is arguing that the game has the potential to be the very Best MMO created but not having any progression whatsoever will absolutely kill the game. I believe that Anet now see’s this and is going to do what ever they can to stop the flood of people leaving. The game is out 2 months and they are already allowing friends to play via trial. That is a bad sign no matter how you spin it.

Yes I have a love/hate relationship with this game lol.

Taking bets about the level cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ZaiTh.6378

What is the point of raising the level cap in a game such as this? It would only take a day to get there. By the next couple of days after that, you would be exotic’d out again. Kind of see where I am going with this this? When you have a game that does not have progression, it is all about the content and keeping players busy. I am not even sure why they went all of the way to level 80 out of the gate.

Almost all zones are dead. (Solution)?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This happens in like every mmo. When it first comes out lower level zones are super populated, then a month or 2 later they are completely deserted.

Indeed, and this game has actually a mechanic to solve this problem.
But it doesn´t use it.

This is true but the later zones dont represent anything new. There is a plethora of content but it is all of the same and that is what disappoints players. We as people need to strive for goals but there really isn’t any goals in this game, it is casual.

Legendaries: worth getting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZaiTh.6378

ZaiTh.6378

If Legendaries were rightfully earned via a tough quest line that you had to group up with other people to acquire, I would say yes, they are worth it. If you can buy your Legendary, then that is not very Legendaryish. On top of that, the stats are the same as exotics. Makes zero sense to myself.

In EQ1, I remember the Coldain Prayer Shawl/Coldain Ring Quest Series. A lot of it was soloable and some of it was groupable but the Final Part of it required a Force of Players to fight in a War of Sorts. Ice Giants appeared in the zone and started killing everything. Some of the Ice Gaints were named and had their own loot tables. You the Player and all of your Guild/Friends had to come to the Aid of the Dwarven City that was in the Mountain behind a Big Waterfall (Thurgadin). If you failed their onslaught, the Ice Giants went into Thurgadin and killed all of the Dwarves and camped the City for I think days at a time until everything reset (If I remember correctly). If you defeating the Ice Giants, you were Rewarded with a very very nice Item Coldain Prayer Shawl for Healers and Casters or the Coldain something Ring for Tanks and Scouts.

That is called an accomplishment and something that is Legendary for other players to admire and want to pursue. The current system in GW2 is kind of Fisher Price in comparison.

What is the Game's Vision of the Future

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ZaiTh.6378

ZaiTh.6378

I understand that a lot of people really love the way the game is designed to be Linear and dumbed down compared to traditional MMO’s but to maintain the health and longevity of the game what can we expect in the future to keep people playing the game? Once you hit 80, 100% Map Exploration, Mastered a couple of tradeskill professions, Full Exotic, at what time does it grow stale?

The absolute #1 factor in any game is having something to do. There has to be a reason or drive that keeps people wanting to do more but realistically what is left when you have already done it all in less than 2 months when the game took 5 years to develop? There are so many things (and I mean a lot!) that has never even been implemented yet and they are common ground aesthetics like preview from the Trading Post, trading with people face to face, targeting yourself, ability to change your build on the fly Pvp/PvE, First Person View, FoV, Seeing what you have harvested. There are just too many to list….. 5 Years and the easy ones were left out……

All of my friends have left and I find myself solo now. I love the graphics in this game, I truly do. I love the character movement and fluidity of feeling pretty natural like a FPS. I guess what I am asking is what is planned in the future? What can you offer me to keep me playing? I could create another toon but they would be max level in a couple of day’s and fully exotic’d out that same day. I could learn another tradeskill profession but there is no real money to be made. Besides that, even if I could make money, what in the world would I spend it on?
After earning the title Been there done that, I am starting to feel that that should of been the title of GW2…

Right now in this moment of time, all of the Popular/Successful MMO’s have been out for quite some time and the people playing them have been waiting for “The Next big MMO” to hit so they can move on and find a new home. A lot of MMO’s have dove for that Carrot but all have fell short. To name a few Aion, Warhammer, Rift, SWOTR…… They all had somewhat of a decent model and vision of what people want but like so many others, they did not listen to their player base and now look at them. They are mediocre at best, 2nd rate MMo’s.

You folks at ArenaNet have something special here but I fear you will fall in line with the former. Please communicate, provide feedback and keep us in the loop. I really want to stay. Thanks.

If they don’t create a PvP server, that makes you happy and does not make me happy.
If they create a PvP server, you don’t have to roll a toon there. You will be still be happy but I will be happy as well. Why not just help others irregardless of your opinion when it has zero effect on you?

Because it wouldn’t have “zero effect” on everyone else. The code changes requires to make an open pvp server function would require a good bit of dev time, which would pull them off of other things in order to make the pvp server workable. This would delay the release of extra content for all servers.

Plus, having to have two separate builds (one for the pvp server, one for the rest) would mean they would have to put in extra time for each game update.

While I’m all for them creating a pvp server IF it can be done in a workable manner (DEs would have to be looked at, would there be “guard” NPCs about or would it be open season everywhere, would cities be “safe zones”, would the various “level mod breaklines” be addressed to prevent ‘border ganking’, etc?), if it causes them to have to delay content for everyone else to cater to that particular server, I’m not as enthusiastic about it.

I love how the question is asked why no PvP server and then all the carebears start crying – um so dont join a PvP server dumb kitten

And just to note, this is the kind of attitude/response that makes people less inclined to listen to the requests/demands of pvpers…you give us a bad name, man.

Actually this thread is growing nicely and pls read the whole thread and educate yourself. To quote myself from an earlier post

ZaiTh.6378:

EQ2 (Everquest 2) said they will never ever institute a PvP Server and covering everything that you said (yes I did read it). They said this countless times. Guess what? They made like 3-4 PvP servers after folks like me insisted. If you never ask for anything, you will never get anything or ever get recognized.

I really have to wonder with a lot of the people agitating for open world PvP if they were bullied in the schoolyard as children and are seeking anonymous revenge, or if they were the bullies and have yet to let go of old habits.

There are two forms of PvP in this game already, and as such I actually have nothing against them. However, players who are not interested in PvP should not need to worry about being harassed when they have no wish to participate. I recognise that the OP is requesting a single PvP server, but as has already been illustrated that would not be viable, so ultimately we are looking at the question as it might impact the entire game.
There are already titles out there that offer Open World PvP, go and play them and stop trying to turn any game that doesn’t meet your wishes into a clone of whatever virtual universe you have left. Please!

Oh, and I concur with those who have already said it, since when does a single player constitute an entire player base? I’ve heard of narcissism, but really, that is pushing it.

but as has already been illustrated that would not be viable. <—————————— Please direct me to your factual information. I would like to take a gander of a Dev’s Response.

This thread is still going on?? Allow me to add then: It seems weird that in a game that so heavily incites people to go pvp (yes, I know, it still lacks some things of GW1, but I am rather sure they will be added) anyone would ask for open world pvp. I may be wrong, but I feel OP is into ganking “noobs” and stuff like that, but does not like to go against real good pvp players in structured pvp and wvw – and if any of the top GW1 pvp players transfered to this game, he will have his derriere handed over to him rather sweetly. Yes, I can see how camping POI and jumping puzzles in normal PVE maps is a lot more fun than going up against those guys…

Structured PvP if for like Kindergarten kids…It is “Structured”. WvW is all about the Gank in huge swarms. Yes I know you can get away from the Zerg and find smaller fights, I try to do that all of the time but then a swarm of 20 people come and ruin the fun. I am sure 15 of them are just mashing buttons. That is not PvP, that is the exact same thing as the Karma Zergs….Also not fun.

Everyone is different, allow for it in life or you will be disappointed more ways than you could ever imagine.
