Learn to guardian on hammer, 15 / 15/ 0 /20 / 20 in knights if you need it, zerk if you don’t.
Lots of room for error and still gives you the basics of what a guard should be doing.
The really wonderful thing about this game is that all open world content scales, so top level 80 players can play easily with your level 1 newbie. I am not on ring of Fire, but I do want to make sure that you know you can guest to other servers as well. You are not locked onto any particular server or forced to play exclusively with people that have low level characters
Log in and see what my friends and guild mates are up to and join in.
Find a guild and make some friends if you haven’t yet. Try to join a guild that does organised things together and won’t mind teaching you the ropes.
Feel free to look me up if you like in game, NA / Sanctum of Rall
Bag of coins and karma consumables are pointless IMO. Karma consumables more so because these values won’t change and arent subject to rng. just reward us with karma and give us another item.
Lost Orrian Jewelry Box rewards karma consumables based on RNG.
Makes it easier to add to types of loot bags that can award a varying amount of karma, such as Lost Orrian Jewelry Box.
Which character generators spoiled you? I do not recall being impressed with Rift’s (since you mentioned it).
Oh no rift’s isn’t very good, but at least they had a good idea with the barbershop. Which is what I was saying, it is consumer friendly and still able to make money.
Some of my favorites include aion (I ended up hating the game, still solid), tera (paid options), and vindictus though not consumer friendly as you had to lay down the cash to get to the good stuff. Really any of the asian F2Ps are probably better than GW2. The problem is a lot of them you gotta pay quite a bit of money to make it worth your while. I happen to love creating characters so I often find it worth it if I like the game.
ETA: If I can include games that are single player? Then DAO.
Include any games for the sake of discussion :p
I enjoyed the character creation in City of Heros / Villians and Champions Online more than the game itself.
Factotum: Lot’s of assumptions there. A code change is a code change. Just because you deem it very easy and straightforward doesn’t mean it was. I’m not sure where you got the time frame for designing a new character face, either.
Which character generators spoiled you? I do not recall being impressed with Rift’s (since you mentioned it).
Guards are content with this patch. No real debuff, slight buffs are always welcome.
Agreed with that assessment for Guardians. We are better off, even if only slightly. Based on the QQ, you would assume they bumped us from heavy armor to light armor.
I actually always felt their default character generator was rather robust.
It’s only a nerf when you have no other source of swiftness. In all other cases, its a hefty buff, allowing you to stack swiftness duration.
That said, I don’t see anything terrible in this patch. Nothing great, but nothing that breaks my guardian.
Hairstyles and Faces etc. are one of the few things I feel comfortable with spending real money for.
It takes no effort to raise item caps for collections from 250 to 1000, just a simple number change.
An artist spent time, effort, and sweat off his brow developing new hairstyles and facial features. That’s where the difference is to me, and why something like Hair is acceptable to cash lock and inventory space is not. No amount of development goes into just changing a number value.
Just for the record, changing code, even on something you deem so minor, has an associated developmental cost with it. The unlock on item use feature was added and compiled and tested.
You put more value on the artistic side of the development, which is valid a opinion, but it doesn’t mean there was no effort, work, or money invested in changing an item stack size.
Nothing is stopping a new character from saving up 25 skill points.
Wow, you would think people forgot all about crafting material management in other games.
Game shipped with stack limits of 250. Its an upgrade to go from there. the people complaining about this being in the gemstore probably think the extra character slots is a bogus upgrade as well.
New content = new cost. Anet is proudly a for profit company and there is nothing wrong with that.
There are quite a few skills similar to this in the game. Warrior elite banner and ranger elite spirit to name 2.
…and I still find the hammer more usefull in most situations, especially against very mobile bosses such as The Mossman or Archdiviner, as I can snare the boss on the AoE to maximize the damage letting my team mates refill their endurance, but …
What snare are you talking about? Also, I don’t use hammer for dps, it is more a utility choice if I’m using it.

What spec?
Not with champs. You’re basically guaranteed a bag for each champ kill. Frostgorge champ runs for instance net you an exotic quality bag for every kill, guaranteed. Yet the MF% plays no part on what’s in them.
And I’m not entirely sure MF% plays a part in getting a white bag drop from a normal mob, due to the fact that it’s white and (I’m guessing here) part of the mob’s standard loot table.
I don’t think we are talking about the same things here. I was not talking about the guaranteed drops from champs. Clearly, if it is a guaranteed drop, MF did not affect your chance to get it.
I was under the impression ‘loot bags’ in this conversation was talking about the normal loot bags you get from body drops. MF definitely does affect your chances to find those, but not what is inside them.
I couldn’t get past the very first sentence of the TC claiming to play 20 years as a pure healer in MMOs.
Considering EQ1 was 14 years ago, and UO pre-dated that, I’m not sure why you have an issue with that statement. Is it because the healing model in this game is so different, or because you thought it was impossible?
I guess that this can be summed up by saying that the top of a boob is tasteful (cleavage), but the bottom of a boob is is sleazy.
This thread of full of spatial injustice.
Loot Bags Pro:
Conserves inventory spaceLoot Bags Con:
Negates all that glorious Magic Find % we’ve been building
That negated Magic Find played it’s part when you got a bag instead of nothing.
You do realize you’re insulting players who like the said armor by saying that they lack the correct taste? Do you realize that you’re ignoring subjectivity and generalizing?
You do realize that admitting to liking said armor automatically shows lack of taste.
/thread ?
You read all these posts and still think we are defending a digital underboob?
15/15/x/20/20 hammer is pretty darn easy to learn to learn on while bring decent dps and good utility to the team.
Run it with full zerker. If you are still uneasy with staying alive, use the knights armor with zerk trinkets. Fair warning tho, the knight’s might actually end up attracting more attention to yourself then you would otherwise get in full zerk.
Use that setup to start hitting dungeons / Fractals and work your dailies for laurels. Work guild missions as well, if you have access. That will help you build the wealth and currency to move to ascended.

Do you go into clothing retail stores and request that they change the style of clothes you don’t care for?
If the retail store was selling clothes that belong to an adult store, I would most definitely request that they change the design.
This pretty much sums up your position, and you can’t reason with an unreasonable person.
You have the right to object to and not support things you do not like, but you are trying to make these decisions for other people.
Maybe it is something with shared spawnpoint? I dunno.
And everything can fail. Ofc. if you are on the champtrain no way it is ever going to fail. But as mentioned above. Not doing it (have seen it ignored by a majority of people) or if you a noobish person trying to solo it. It is soloable, but not for all.
Failing to kill the champ doesn’t fail the event.
As far as I know, this is not an event that can fail in any way, it just stays active until someone completes it.
My wife is trying to decide which medium armor user she is going to make just to use that skin.
Those that don’t like it are welcomed to their opinion, but changing the armor to your particular tastes is rather self absorbed.
Do you go into clothing retail stores and request that they change the style of clothes you don’t care for?
It’s potentially messy with the way the personal story starts off being very specific to your race.
So you couldn’t be bothered to…
- salvage the exotics and sell the mats
- spend the laurels and sell the goods (craftings mats or dyes)
- convert the gems to gold
… then move that mass of cash over the other account?
Sure you lost some stuff, but you certainly could have minimized this loss. Also, why the drastic measure? Why not, you know, just stop playing that 2nd account, it’s not like it would have any cost associated?
1) Make a thief alt with that hood
2) Transmute it to a white heavy armor helm
3) ….
4) Profit!
Good luck!
lol @ that pic
The (arguagably?) most popular class in the game has one of the most amazing condi counter builds out there, but good luck convincing any or those warriors to use a warhorn :p
If there’d would be a single thing I’d like to see changed/removed then it would be the Downed-state mechanic.
Its the most unfun, unbalanced and unfair snowballing mechanic I have ever experienced.
- Unfun because I’m lying on the ground, throwing rocks, spaming a single ability, always going through the same process.
- Unfun because the enemy can simply leave me there, just to delay my respawn.
- Unbalanced because the different downed-skills are highly unbalanced.
- Unfair because reviving someone is incredibly fast compared to stomping.
- Snowballing because it gives a massive upper hand to the larger numbers.
- its more fun than lying there dead
- you would rally if left unhindered
- lots of classes have lots of unbalanced abilities. downed skills are an extension of the class abilities and can be dealt with
- they brought help, you probably should have too
- extension of bringing friends
You know they will be downed before they are dead, plan on it and watcht o counter those massively unbalanced yet completely telegraphed skills.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Secrets_in_the_SwampSometimes the wiki takes some digging
Digging through the wiki sounds like a lot more work than just standing in the swamp.
Main point: information doesn’t really seem to flow too freely though the player base.
I am on Sanctum of Rall and it feels pretty populated. I don’t go there too often, but every time I pass through caledon forrest it end to see people out and about.
Keep this in mind though: You are not tied to that zone at all. You can go out to any of the various racial starting zones, and you are very likely to see a good number of people hanging around in the human one, Queensdale.
Biggest thing I can suggest: join a guild. And by guild I don’t mean some mass of people that you are a faceless pixel in. Seek out a guild that actually plays and does things together. It will improve your experience with this game a thousand fold.
This issue is tough for me to understand, and I think it ties back to how people view guilds, especially in this game.
My guild is comprised of friends. We play together. whenever someone mentions doing something, we get it taken care of. So far, there is nothing my guild has not been able to do. For instance, last night was a hodge podge of stuff:
- a bit of time working map completion in cursed shore (skill points, a few DEs, and vistas)
- hit hotw p1 cuz someone said they felt like doing it
- did some costume brawling :p
- ran out to fireheart rise and did some Des while wrapping up the ascalon veteran killer daily achieve
That was two hours of time spent chatting with friends in voice chat and just playing the game.
Does no one else play this way?

That tells you almost nothing about the encounter. Perhaps if we as a community actually documented the pre-events for these things, it would raise awareness. I know for a long time I struggled to understand how it all connected, and now that I know I normally do the pre’s.
Finding accurate information on this game is surprisingly difficult, largely due to the community’s mentality: “if everyone knows, it’s less for me”.
The thrill of victory, man, YOLO
You could try watching the boons on your target and not mindlessly spamming AE attacks at groups of players or mobs. there are also many ways to purge or corrupt the boons on opponents.
I find this to be an interesting discussion. Any zone you go into you automatically scale down to it. Anet has already given you the means to enjoy any zone you enter, the player base must simply decide to do it. How could Anet possibly make each and every zone absolutely compelling to enter every day at all times of the day?
Compare this to other mmo type games of the past, were those lower tied zones not as equally vacant, with the one exception that your character didn’t even scale to the content?
You can watch the stacks of defiant and coordinate the landing of particular CC skills. My normal group tends to spam down the stacks and then burn the real CC for the ice block from ice bow, when applicable.
How did you all find a way to zerg inside the instances in the tower?
Back on topic, I play the LS when the people I play with decide that is what we are going to do. The list varies a bit, including:
- story
- achievements
- loot
- exploration
- fun (seems like people rarely do anything for this anymore)
Ok, I have an 80 Warrior that I put a crap ton of time into building only to come and find out that I pretty much hate the class. Other than the Rifle sniper build, I’ve not found anything that really felt “fun.” Yeah, I know the Condi LB build works well (boring) and we all know about the issues with the hammer but I wanted a melee class that could deal out damage, have mobility, and somewhat decent survival skills. The GS sucks for Warrior! /cry
Anyways, after that rant, I am thinking of deleting the character and rerolling her into a GS + Sword/x Guarding using mostly zerker + toughness gear. Can you all give me some suggestions?
Does this sound completely stupid?
Is this real? Warrior lacks mobility in melee, and the guardian appeals to you?
Given the criteria of why you do not enjoy your warrior, the guardian is definitely not for you.
I love the idea of tomes, but hate the implementation of them. It leaves guardians little option but to slot anything other than renewed focus; which is a great ability, but it doesn’t necessarily seems ‘elite’ to me.
Love the idea of it being on a really short cool down with longer cool down on the abilities. The weapon swap would be best, but wouldn’t really fit with the concept of elite skills, so the cool down option could work close to that if done right.
…
Shield 5 should have no cast time and no root. However a 1/4-1/2 cast time could still work. Then instead of a second skill just make the skill heal for the same amount over the 4 seconds its active…
No root would be OP, unless you somehow nerfed or at least modified the kb
You can be in overflows for the tower. I get what you are saying, it will be interesting how they handled that.
what happens to the tower on a server when players from that server inject the anti toxin in an overflow zone?
On a buffer overflow, i imagine only the tower of the overflow ends, and if you save on the overflow player on the server might decided to end it.
Dont get me wrong im at work, so still speculating on the process how Anet is envolving something that does not fit in the game engine, talking about chooses, events decided by players, it does not make sense with overflow system…
I might be missing something, but as i understand this, the tower will only fall after the bloom has been injected a number of times. It’s like a server wide thing. I injected the bloom last night, and tower is absolutely still standing. There appeared to be a progress bar for the how many times it had been done, and was barely moving. Given that the overflow isn’t persistent (I don’t think? ), is that progress wasted?
