Status of new races/classes?

I wouldn’t plan on race change ever being added. It would essentially re-write the early personal story for that character, which I assume ANet would never be on board with.

Lots of good suggestions, with the exception of exploiting a bug with shield5….

But I think the biggest issue with shield is that focus is so very good. Shield isn’t bad as it is right now, it’s just not as good as focus, and I don’t know what you could do with shield to make it more preferable than focus.

And this is from a guy that loves the look of various shields in the game and hates pretty much all the focii.

You can be in overflows for the tower. I get what you are saying, it will be interesting how they handled that.

what happens to the tower on a server when players from that server inject the anti toxin in an overflow zone?

Debating the same thing right now with my daughter. She sees my wife and I play with our friends (going on 15 years of games together as a “guild”) and naturally wants to join in. We would need to set up special times for her to play though, because she wouldn’t be able to handle the tactics and communication aspect of the game (such as dungeons), but over all I think it would be positive for her.

There are far worse things for kids to get into than computer games.

I think the TP is pretty vital to the game, and it would require a major re-work of the economy if it was severely altered (or removed).

That said, I think the biggest thing to hurt Diablo 3 is that it wasn’t very good.

They aren’t great, but they are not completely worthless. In fights where I know i will be kiting, I slot the sword and get full duration out of it.

I don’t think it’s the skill’s issue when you summon a limited pet into an AE heavy environment and it dies instantly. It’s very situational, by no means should it be a mainstay on your skill bar.

But really, what classes have all amazing skills and nothing that is very niche and situational?

I think the announcement of another WoW expansion is enough to keep me int his game as it stands.

In other news, I can’t really remember the last time any MMO was not ‘highly anticipated’. GW2 can’t really do anything to make sure people don’t check out other things that interest them. It’s a personal experience, you either enjoy playing it or you don’t. In general, mmo players are extremely fickle (just read these forums) and will float from game to game with the wind.

State of The Game

Maybe people would find boss encounters more enjoyable if they didn’t trivialize them with LoS and stack tactics. Just because they are there doesn’t mean they need to be used.

You can play the game you want. You will find pve boring and lackluster if you leverage every mechanic you can to make it that way, while skipping 95% or the content along the way just to get the end goal faster.

Or you can find a group of friends and just enjoy the stroll through the dungeon letting folks play how they want.

Levels segregate the game world

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zerole.7306

Some interesting ideas and views against the levels, but I don’t see how you get around a few things:

1) introduce new players to mechanics with simpler combat and give them practice required to survive tougher content. A tutorial could do this, but that is what i consider the newbie zones to be anyway.

2) sure, it’d be nice to roll out to any zone on a level 1, but how would i know what sort of challenges to expect in those zones if not for levels?

Honestly, I’m not sure why anyone would look at this game in particular and worry about levels. I understand everyone has different play styles and available playtime, but even a very casual player can hit level 80 in a very short time. A friend of mine bought the game Sunday and requested no help learning the game. Playing about 2-3 hours a day, he hit 45 last night. I’d also mention he has never stepped foot in a dungeon, and completes each and every map he steps onto.

Would you believe yourself...

I can’t answer your questions, because I am unaware of what you are referring to. But I can say that is the mist-fire wolf is the main reason for upgrading your account, you should not do it. The skill is easily one of the weakest elite skills in the game.

5 Utilities instead of 3?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zerole.7306

Zerole.7306

Honestly, I’d prefer increasing options by increasing the available weapon skills. Leave utility slots at three, but allow me to substitute various weapon skills situationally rather than being stuck with useless skills 3 and 5 because I want 1, 2 and 4.

This is a terrible idea. Weapons are choices just like skill slots, and being able to pick and choose what you slotted into a weapon skill would be pure insanity.

Female vs. Male Characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zerole.7306

Zerole.7306

I am a male and can never bring myself to play a female, it just annoys me. I tend to play melee / tankish type characters, and the dainty females being in the fray wearing chainmail lingerie seems stupid to me.

On the other hand, my wife plays almost exclusive male characters, regardless of the role she plays.

I think it basically comes down to preferences. Females tend to show a lot more skin and their armor tends to be a bit more exotic. Males don’t really offer anything unique. If you are looking for something flashy, chances are a female will look better doing it.

Why even bother posting this? It doesn’t even begin to answer his questions accurately and serves no real purpose.

To OP: Make sure you read the tool tips of everything in the cash shop, and it will identify it as a skin or a costume / town clothes. the differences between those two have already been explains.

With skins, you can essentially ‘re-use’ them infinitely as long as you continue to use a tansmutation stone or crystal, depending on your level.

All heavy armor look the same...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zerole.7306

Zerole.7306

All armour looks the same.

Light = dresses, masks and hoods.
Medium = trench coats and bandit masks.
Heavy = Mini skirts.

Unless we get to transmute all armour types and hide more armour we will never see diversity.

Diversity is created by the player’s mind, not the designer’s sketch.

I think this is possibly the most inaccurate thing I have ever read on these forums.

And that is truly saying something.

Grinding is self-imposed. That’s true in all MMOs and especially true in this one, from what I’ve been able to tell so far. I was actually shocked at how small the difference is in stats between super-expensive and very affordable items.

Don’t dare try to inject logic into this “discussion”. Anet is out to get each and every one of us, if it’s the last thing they do.

I just wish we had an option to stop playing this terrible, awful game, and go play those other games that are so much less grind orientated and all around perfect …..

My #1 favorite thing about this game is that just about anyone can play with anyone. I play with a group of friends and no one needs to feel pressured into playing a specific class at a certain level. Anyone can play any class / spec with any other class / spec at any level and still play together.

We left SWTOR specifically because of this issue, and our stay in EQ2 was extended due to the mentoring system.

Levels segregate the game world

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zerole.7306

I actually think the original scaling system, which allowed players to scale up from any level into any map would actually be beneficial again. Levels should just be a superficial thing to count character progress and nothing more. That way a player joining the game at a important LS arc (after reading about said LS on a MMO website) can jump right into the content without needing to level his character to even stand a chance.

Except that if the player was truly a new player, they wouldn’t have the skills required to survive the higher level zones; they wouldn’t understand the game well enough to get the hang of dodging and countering abilities.

Most LS arcs are not exclusively in high level areas because of this.

Levels exist in this game to slowly ramp the player up to tougher challenges as they get more acclimated to the combat systems and mechanics of the game. This really isn’t all that tough of a concept.

Can we all agree that the average encounter in Orr is more complex than the average encounter in Queensdale? Do you think you could counter some of the things thrown at you in an average dungeon encounter after having been in game for 4 minutes?

Use some common sense.

EDIT: Adding that if you find leveling in this game a difficult process, maybe these types of games are not for you.

Troll breath is stinking up the thread.

OP, I feel your pain, but this goes both ways. Newer players joining skip groups and skippers joining full clears.

It comes down to people being barely aware of what they are signing them self up for for, for which I don’t think ANet can fix.

Champ farming is only on 2 maps and possibly a dungeon….Champions on the other hand are in every map and dungeon. The change affects more than just champ farming.

True, however it was borderline abused in QDale, which in turn gave a very poor first impression of the game in the busiest newbie zone. Overall its a good change, as I think most can agree that reward should go hand in hand with risk.

You still get a few items, the event exp (and complete credit), and karma (where it applies).

Nerfed Champ Bags/Boxes ?

Zerole.7306

Here is a reason:

The zergs were creating a poor experience for people new to the game in the most populated of the newbie areas.

If that one doesn’t work for you:
They finally took note at how damaging that kind of money grab is to a game and plugged the leak.

I’d also like to point out that folks that enjoy tougher content always have and always will tackle champions they come across. Champions died regularly long before the champ bags were introduced.

Roleplaying a zergling is a perfectly valid form of game play. By nerfing champion zergs, they ruined my fun. What am I supposed to do now?

I guess I can roleplay a zergling in WvW but it’s just not as satisfying.

This doesn’t stop anyone from doing it; not like messing with spawn timers would have done. You just won’t be rewarded ridiculously well for it anymore.

So you feel the champ trains are no longer rewarding you for what you put in? Sorry, but I don’t think you are really putting ‘anything in’ when riding a champ train. If you truly do enjoy the style of game play that the champ train offers, nothing is stopping you from doing it. ANet has a responsibility to plug up avenues that generate too much money too easily, it’s sort of what caused a lot of the economy issues here in the first place and drove prices up like crazy.

I’m sure everyone can get back to earning money by doing more than spamming auto attack.

15/10/20/25 tweaks the build a little bit more.

Not bad flexability for a “does it all” build.
