“They are all terrible” because I’ve 1v1’d and 1v2’d and even 1v3’d many more things with Viper than with any other build I’ve ever used… Only thing I die to is signet necro if I’m not careful. I spent almost all of yesterday using Viper.

I suppose I could note that Scrapper basically gives 500 toughness and there’s a lot of healing on the build even without any healing power stat.

Should grenades just go away?

in Engineer

Zethyrius.8692

For condi damage currently grenades are better then mortar, they still provide 3 stacks bleeding, 3 stacks poison and work great with shrapnel because you throw 3 grenades and so you have 3x the chance of 15%. So with grenades you have a 38,58% percentage for additional 20sec of bleeding. While on mortar it’s only 15% (Yay finally stochastic in school had some sense)

It is not 38.58% chance. Each proc is independent, so there’s no weird multiplying stuff. The average grenade toss (that you get all 3 hits with) is 45% of a shrap proc.

Aside from that (sorry, may seem nitpicky), yes… grenades work with Explosives and other quantity-of-hits procs much better than other kits. This COULD be somewhere to look into balancing, whether by consolidating grenades into less hits (which would also nerf their interaction with sigils, runes, retal, aegis/blind, etc) or by increasing the Explosive effects and limiting nade interactions with those effects (the suggested ICD). Grenades are still excellent for power, condition, and hybrid.

Celestial version of Elixir Soldier, dropping the the utility from tools for damage from condis (especially to kill through mist form). Does significantly more damage than soldier, even physical damage. 30% + 10% when bleeding +20% fury crit, plus has ferocity. Could take extra S instead of backpack regen, and could take fury instead of rifle recharge. Could change sigils if desired.
Some reasoning: Alchemy with Elixir B allows good swiftness without needing to take tools, then I can keep nades since condi requires Firearms and nades require Explosives.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQJAqalUUhatY7Ww+KQ+FLsFF4HWiBgYHNFPxYOOG/IA-TJBHwAFOBAW2fAwDAIZZAA
Carrion condi. Int sigil for burst with FT 2 and for burn application (although there is already some crit, this makes the burn guaranteed so it’s a better burst). Leeching for some sustain, which condi engis have a hard time with, and to not break stealth when setting up burst. Alchemy for great defensive bonuses… tons of condi cleanse especially with egun, which engis usually struggle with, some might for extra damage, and protection. Egun gives an extra stunbreak and good synergy with Alchemy, plus down cleave. FT has all the burns, needed for a condi-centric build. Tools is the build’s swiftness, and kinetic battery for double incendiary ammo is excellent burst once you bait condi removal.
Carrion handles condis much better than rabid, and this build compounds on that with the condi removal. It also gives some level of power burst with int, and makes the self Elixir X not completely useless.

EDIT: The soldier elixir build up right now is the tank version. The damage/well-rounded version (coughChaith’s) has HGH, Sigil of Battle, and Rune of Strength. I really don’t think Elixirs is meant to be set up that defensively; inventions is way better defense than tools… There’s a reason why world champions choose what they do. Don’t know why metabattle doesn’t list HGH.

There is nothing that removes part of a stack of anything, other than stability being consumed stack-wise by CC and stacking conditions fading one-by-one based on when they were applied. Removal removes stacks.

Not sure if people use it though.

True; that’s possible, too.
Not saying that you can’t be right, as it IS another option, but I’d say it’s more likely for a guard to take a trait than for someone to take a nearly-never-used sigil.

Thieves have the boon rip previously listed, but what probably got you when both were down was: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Searing_Flames

Has to be rather lucky about the internal cooldown though, but that’s the only thing I think would be possible.

Remove skill queuing for thief?

in Thief

Posted by: Zethyrius.8692

Zethyrius.8692

I don’t think there’s any situation in which skill queuing is beneficial.

It should try to activate a weapon skill when: You are trying to activate a skill and aren’t using one yet, or you’re 1/4 (?) second away from finishing your skill (so you can SLIGHTLY pre-cast so you don’t have to perfectly time the button press in order to not waste time). NOT while you’re already using a skill, unless it’s a long cast time skill that’s almost done.

EDIT: It’s arguably a L2P issue, but it would certainly be an appreciated QOL change. Mistakes in skill use can and do happen, no matter who you are.

As long as you know a little bit about pvp and about your build (so that people don’t yell at you for being a scrub), unranked is probably the best place to do pvp when you want to avoid the “tryhards”. Even though not all “good” players do ranked, it’s rare for organized groups of good players trying to do their best to queue unranked, and if they do, MMR will (usually) make that a non-issue.

I have some experience with playing with a person in the same room, so hopefully my tips will be useful.
1. There is no such thing as choosing to stick together or split up. You need to rotate properly. Don’t zerg. You usually shouldn’t send two people from one place to the next to the next unless team fights are constantly moving. If you’re at, say, home point in a 1v1 and you know you won’t win but you can still hold off, you can call in your GF for help. Works a lot better than trying to use in-game chat while staying alive, and you will never use voice comm programs unless you’re in an organized team, so that extra element of communication is good. Basically… split up except in the opening split or when you know you need more people somewhere for sure (not to reinforce a lost fight or to reinforce somewhere that doesn’t need help).
2. It doesn’t matter too much what you use together. You can have good success running two burst builds together and coordinating timing of bursts or CC with easy communication. You can run two builds that don’t need a babysitter, which makes rotation easier. You can run tanky builds and be the team’s main point-holders. The 5-person comp is important, not a two-person comp. You should be good unless you run something like two mesmers/necros or two bunker guardians or something like that. Even then it could work. Metabattle is pretty good, but don’t be afraid to change a couple things here or there. Don’t expect success trying to make a completely new build. If you want to mess around, make your own build. If you want to learn pvp or want to be successful, use something you know is good (usually metabattle stuff, tested by others, although sometimes there’ll be a build that you personally do very well with consistently).
3. Rotation… It’s mostly experience. Match numbers in fights, or take 1 more person than the enemy if they’re a man down or you have people who can survive outnumbered for a while. Don’t sit on a point that nobody is going after. Don’t ignore your captured points completely when you know there are enemies running around who aren’t accounted for (have someone watch crossing areas). When you get kills or get killed, it’s probably a good idea to send people elsewhere to match numbers better or to avoid a wipe. Don’t go after secondary objectives unless it would change the outcome of the game or it’s a completely safe time to do so (ie Forest, last 25 points, the enemies won’t be able to steal the kill and your point income will not get you the victory before the enemy). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvPb2jY19oU has good stuff on rotations.

Sample size. You said yourself that you played over 200 games in the old season to get your 50-60% win rate, and only 6 games now for a 0%. Anything can happen in 6 games. I’ve seen people complain about 20-or-so game loss streaks. Until you get to the hundreds of games, your win rate means almost nothing. Stop trying to make this issue have a reason other than sample size.

I have a somewhat low number of games in this season, and my win rate is through the roof (compared to normal). It doesn’t mean too much.

I find it funny that before WTS everybody was like NA>EU blah blah blah, Now NA got rekt in the WTS and ya´ll trying to find a reason why Abjured lost. I´ll give you a simple reason: oRNG played better. They were hungry and wanted to win more. As simple as that. Now quit your kittenness and move on. NA will get their chance in the next WTS.
But till then…….EU>NA deal with it huehuehuehue.

Absolutely agree that oRNG played better. That’s clear on the sole basis that they were declared the winners.

A main topic in this thread is WHY oRNG was better than Abjured. I personally have no bias toward EU or NA. I favor teams that are good. When I first learned that oRNG formed, I thought that it was probably better than Abjured because it combined two teams that were pretty much equal or better. It was within the realm of possibility for Abjured to “git gud son” and beat them, but that apparently didn’t happen. And it was within the realm of possibility for teams to become better than oRNG or Abjured, but that did not happen before the qualifiers, at least results-wise.

I would like to state, for the record, I was forced to play condi engi by my team for china and to view the losses as practice. Also, chaith and toker were FORCED to pick up the game after months of little practice and we had to get them up to snuff. If you actually payed any attention to vods before stating an opinion you’d clearly see that we struggled based on nos hard countering our only on-the-game roamer and toker and chaith out of practice by a kittenLOAD….

Alas, no one actually cares about gameplay. They just want to make their opinions without watching vods. Little did I know they thought bad of me because I can’t play a rabid condi engi vs a carrion necro while trying to get two new teammates up to snuff.

The idea of the absurd was to play with toker and chaith because nos and caed didn’t really make any attempt to go. That’s a fact. Being forced to play a class that is directly hard countered for “practice” is hardly any sort of indication of what the absurd was or how good they were…

PUHLEEZE. I picked up cele rifle in one day and almost beat the abjured with a brand spanking new team after china. Watch those vods too.

Yes, you were. Yes, they were. Yes, hard-countering. Yes, I watched all the NA Go4s until maybe the 8th or so. I saw the hard-countering and the improvement. But it IS an indication of how “good” they were, as that is judged by victory, not some unknown value of personal and team skill; even so, you said that your players were not fully up to speed, so I’d take that as the team overall WAS worse at the time. I wasn’t talking about you, but the team. I believe there were rumors that similarly, WTS2’s Chinese team won their qualifier by hard-countering the “real” best team?

You also stated that Absurd helped you practice, which is the entire point of saying that they were “better” than the Abjured in some way.

I don’t doubt that Abjured was an excellent team by the time of WTS1, that the pre-WTS1 Go4s were skewed, or that you weren’t the weakest link. I saw your first tournament games with rifle, and I won’t deny that it changed your matchups, and that you were still great before that (ie killing a condi necro in WTS1 as rabid engi = skill difference). This is supposed to be evaluation of results, not what-ifs or insults. I know you’ve had your more-than-fair share of incoming and outgoing salt, so maybe it was just too easy for you to read it that way. Sorry about that.

I guess I have a really bad memory, because I remembered Absurd dominating the first few weeks. They won weeks 1 and 2, then Abjured week 3 and 4, then Absurd week 5, then Abjurd took over. Oh. The ESL site doesn’t have week 2. I guess I’m right for once. The Absurd was better than the Abjured, while it existed (before Nos left it). After WTS1, Nos joined Abjured and kicked OE, and Absurd was pretty much dead. During the Abjured’s pre-WTS time, it was not #1 overall, just #1 for the teams that were able to go to the WTS.

Now oRNG had two people from the best team and 3 from the second best, and pulled ahead as the new best team in EU (though TCG did great against them in the qualifiers!

You are ignoring solid facts by saying that oRNG is the best EU team purely based on the qualifiers. You haven’t said they’re “possibly the new best team”, you’ve straight down said they’re “the new best team”. There are two teams that you’ve completely left out of the picture – 55hp monks and the french team team currently known as Sizzling Hot Pressure (IGN, EG, DG).

Let’s look at the past 5 Go4 cups, the past 5 ESL weekly cups and the January monthly final, not including the most recent Go4 and ESL because oRNG weren’t in them. I chose this selection since this is the period in which the french team has been around. oRNG has won 4 of these (ESL #64, Go4 #15/16/17). The french team has also won 4 of these (ESL #65/66/67, Go4 #14). 55hp has won 2 of these (Go4 #18 and the January monthly final).

As you can see, oRNG has not won the majority of these cups and have the same number of wins as the french team. The french team were unable to compete in the qualifiers (they weren’t even together when the qualifier teams were being decided) and 55hp were running with 2 pugs in the qualifiers. The french team even beat the mash of TCG + Nos and Tarcis, a tournament where TCG beat oRNG and also led to TCG getting temporarily suspended for the inclusion of those two.

To say that oRNG is currently the best EU team without the slightest mention of even the french team that is tied for wins despite being a less experienced team is just being extremely narrow minded and could possibly even be insulting to their main competitors in the EU scene. Abjured don’t have anything close to the same situation in NA since they have won every tournament in this time period, so it’s safe to say they are the top team in NA.

Just one view.

I honestly haven’t been watching the EU Go4s. Thank you for info; edited some stuff in OP. But that furthers the point, that there was good competition. And it’s not insulting to call oRNG the best since they WERE the best team in EU for WTS2, according to the qualifiers, and according to you they share the top slot now? It’s like saying Abjured wasn’t the best NA team for WTS1. Absurd won more than Abjured, but for the WTS Abjured was top (well, Absurd also couldn’t qualify, but it’s somewhat similar).

Congrats to oRNG on the win in WTS2. (Congrats to Abjured on the win in WTS1, but old news.)

Around the time of WTS1, Cheese Mode was the undisputed top team in EU, and TCG was the second best in EU, though there were other teams somewhat close to it (such as 55hp). The Abjured was the second-best team in NA, though closer to the best than TCG was to CM. The teams practiced well, and the finals were very close. Abjured and TCG were close enough that it may have been just the small sample size that made Abjured win, although plenty of people say that Abjured was indeed better at the time. I pass no judgment on this subject, other than Abjured got the formal victory.

Around the time of WTS2, CM and TCG fell apart and recombined. Now oRNG had two people from the best team and 3 from the second best, and pulled ahead as the new possibly-best team in EU (though they and TCG were neck and neck in the qualifiers, and there are more good teams in EU as well, 55hp, S.H.P). In NA, Abjured was the undisputed best team, just as CM was around WTS1. Abjured lost equals or superiors to practice against, while oRNG had teams close in skill level. So, oRNG had better practice than Abjured, and possibly had better players than EU had in WTS1 (even though the WTS1 EU team was still really close to NA, and all the players were great). And, the winners were oRNG.

Maybe the Abjured could have won. Maybe not; maybe the WTS2 games were fully representative — at least they seem more representative than the WTS1 games because of the closeness and lag in WTS1. But oRNG was certainly [not NOT] in the running as an equal or superior, by the practice and membership arguments above.

Abjured is not a piece of kitten team, nor is it apparently the best team in the world at this time. They’ve had PR issues, but nobody should unquestioningly hate them because of it; for the most part they are good people… except in certain cases (OE and Backpack and Abjured, please be civil. It’s possible. Everyone would be happier.). They’re skilled players, although they’ve had a worse practice environment than EU teams. Maybe they will reclaim the title in the future, or maybe NA will develop other excellent teams. But for now, it seems like EU deserved this victory.

Props to Abjured for good sportsmanship, and props to oRNG for being skilled and being Civilized Gentlemen. Props to Dankening for having so many great games; they were some of the best ones to watch, even though they didn’t end up as the winners. Props to Heaven and Earth for doing much better than Chinese teams did in WTS1.

Dang, I’ve been using Rabbit for too long. Sounds like Deer really is the answer. [EDIT: Rabbit is automatically available, so it could mean you’re a first-timer, instead of a beginner who has made a tiny bit of progress.] I don’t use the scrub gear either… although that’s probably a harder thing to bring oneself to do.

… But the title should most certainly be the first rank point title (Gladiator). It is the least demanding pvp title to get, so it shows:
A.) You’ve played pvp more than 1 or 2 games
B.) You probably haven’t played much pvp
C.) For some reason you are showing off this easy, garbage title; is your brain fully functional?
It’s better than Combat Healer or Dungeon Master or whatever… It’s a pvp title that sucks, instead of a non-pvp title that isn’t too great. People know there are pve scrubs running around in pvp, so Combat Healer and Dungeon Master sound like pushovers, but in a respectable way (i.e. you must be new to pvp). Gladiator, however, is not nearly as forgivable. “You must be braindead.”

No one runs 60044 anymore.. 62042 or 60062 are your best bets.
61042 is even better than 60044.

Protection injection is kinda dumb, cause you should just be dodging/blinding/out-ranging/counter cc’ing any cc that comes to you.
(protection doesn’t really help you against things like fear from a terrormancer)

Keep in mind if you can’t play a 3 kit engineer effectively the egun will become more of a burden than a tool. That being said i think it’s probably the best of these three.

Slick shoes forces your opponent to use a stun break (which is great) but you’re giving up the defensive capabilities of egun or S; so you need a good team to peel for you when you’re getting trained as you no longer have a good disengage.

S is basically the safe mode. The stealth provides a nice disengage or engage; the S is good for negating any heavy burst while running to teammates or just countering DPS guardians or S/- elementalists or thieves opening burst; you can use it to stay safe while conditions tick upon your opponent and most regularly seen, securing stomps.

Two of them don’ provide the engineer with anyway to secure a stomp, which is kind of important in a lot of cases.

Ostricheggs and Chaith run 6/0/0/4/4, so they’re nobody I guess. Hibify runs 6/0/0/6/2. I know of 0 people who run 6/2/0/4/2. I can see EG or rifle recharge being useful and it does make sense to me to run 2 in firearms depending on what you want to give up. Protection injection is most certainly not useless. Nobody dodges all the CC all the time perfectly, it is a good defense when being focused (can’t say that about 4 in tools or 2 in firearms), and you give yourself protection from overcharged shot even if you miraculously dodge everything perfectly.

Slick shoes are also good for when you know your enemy’s build and you know they don’t have more stunbreaks. 45 seconds is quite the long cooldown for just baiting the stunbreaks. Other than that, your evaluation of EG/Slick/S makes a lot of sense.

S, Shoes, EG are all viable and mostly personal preference. If you want to tank more and cleave more and bunkerbust more, EG. If you want to throw out more wombo-combos, especially with voice coordination with your team, slickies are good. If you want stomp/res mechanics and heavy disengages, S is good.

For traits, 60062 and 60044 are the only setups I see. The 62 is passively slightly sturdier, and the 44 is more “slippery” (has a shorter TK block, has shorter CD magnet or if you take leg mods it can escape lockdowns better, and the 3 pt passive gives you some goodies). The damage for both should be comparable since 44 gets prybar damage and crit damage, while the 5pt alchemy passive gives a couple % damage. It probably mostly depends on your enemy team comp.

Does anyone know if assassin amulet is ever used in Panic Strike builds? I would think that the higher crit from that item could be more advantageous in a build that has a low trait investment to the crit tree.

Nobody uses that amulet. The massive drop of vitality’s not worth it. For Panic Strike people usually just take Pack runes.

That and if you use the number on the tooltip, and your crit chance and multiplier in the pvp build page, Zerk is more average damage anyway, plus has more defense from vitality.

Last I checked, 9/12 ranked and 2/4 unranked I believe. Not sure if I’ve done any matches after that check. I have only queued solo so far, not a whole lot of time to be organizing stuff in game much.
I’ve only had 2 blowout courtyard games (1 in my team’s favor solo queue no shared guilds didn’t seem like anyone in the match was partied; 1 in enemy team’s favor although my team got ~75-225 points, don’t remember), and have had 2 or 3 good, close ones.
For people that were complaining that the profession weight in queues is not fixed, I’ve had one game with 2 thieves, 1 mes, 1 guard, 1 ? (ranger or engi I think) on my team, one game with 3 enemy thieves, and a couple games (2? 3?) with 2 necros on a team, but other than that I believe they were all 1 of a profession per team. The duplication is usually only 2-of, if even. To my limited experience.
EDIT: Also, I’ve only been paired with/against one premade team so far afaik, as a solo queue’er.

Sign me up. I’d say it’s more likely than not that I’ll be able to attend, but it’s not certain.
AFAIK I’m not horrible at rotations (esp after your video), but I have no experience with “good” teams so communication is often a barrier to rotation for me (and laziness in easy/too difficult games).

The helpfulness of the community really seems to be growing lately.

It was great!
I don’t know how many Twitch views there were, but the YouTube posting was a little unviewed. It really deserves more views. Great info.

Am I the only one who wants Spear on land?

Off-topic…
I like spears in general (not GW2 related). They are amazing. Who doesn’t want to kill people standing out of their reach?
Spear being an underwater-only weapon is sort of weird… since it’s not.

Clocktower roof insta-death

On a different note, I rallied myself by engi-pulling a sniper down from the top of the roof onto the point. (They were at the edge of the hole, and I was on the point.) They were instantly defeated. Another reason to avoid the roof, especially if you don’t have stability and you’re attacking an engi…

Best engi roles for current meta?

In pvp you are decent but lack stunbreaks/stability and the condition removal is awful. If you see a condi necro just run away.

I partially agree. I usually die only to CC chains (or well-done group focus… but that’s for any profession, any build).

If I see a necro, I fight them and usually win. Could have something to do with their skill level vs. mine, but I don’t think I’m all that great. I have enough condition removal with EG and turret to get by, and they rarely seem to handle my damage well. Don’t know what else to say. Everyone’s experience is different, and I don’t care about necros unless they’re group focusing on me (CC + coordinated burst → biggest weakness).

Why is Everyone quitting ?

Would you play ANY game where a RANKED contest could begin uneven?

Would you even play a game CASUALLY where rage quitters and team swappers corrupt the match and have no repercussions?

Would you play a game where you could get 1 shot (sometimes from stealth) on a certain map?

Would you play a game that REMOVES something that adds variety and fun instead of fixing it (i.e. underwater combat)?…Especially after having it in the game and people learning it for over a year!

Would you play a game that “fixes” a profession by putting Torment on an auto-attack, gives ‘hundred blades dmg’ at 1500 range, and allows bunker specs to stack might for high damage too?

Would you play ANY game that had the above problems PLUS gave miniscule rewards?

Just asking

Yes, apparently. People do it all the time. Maybe it’s still fun to some level.

streak ended by 4v5

Kind of funny, I had a losing streak, and then I had a 4v5 (my team down 1), and that started a winning streak.

But yes, I have had 4v5 getting facerolled. Some of these suggestions seem very simple and effective.

Karma hoarding - wanted warning about change

So… (Quotes minus the formatting, copy-pasted because some of the stuff is from the actual rollback info thread)
“We will be temporarily rolling back the karma change in a hotfix to allow people the opportunity to turn in their karma with any buffs they intended to use.”

“We will also be reimbursing the people who used their karma during the period when the initial change was in effect” // “Those who spent karma today will be refunded.”

To me, this means that people who bought items like jewelry boxes, orr temple gear, legendary ingreds, etc, get their karma back; also, people who wanted to save their karma to boost it all at once will be able to boost it for a while.
What about those who went “Oh well, I guess I can’t boost it anymore. I’m SOL. Start left-clicking.”? That was the most logical course of action from the information given in the release notes.

The possible things done with karma today:
1. Purchase things with it. You said you’re allowing us to undo this. Good. Fixed
2. Nothing. What you do doesn’t matter for these people. These people are also benefited if they were stockpiling any consumables with the intent to use it all at once. You’re letting them boost as they would have been able to do. Fixed
3. Use consumables. Your response to this behavior is still confusing to me and many other people. Unhappy?
4. Use consumables AND spend the karma. A fix to this behavior is even less clear than options 1 and 3 individually. Unhappy?

So what about 3 and 4?
