First, not every person has time to waste by learning what skills and other kitten will be delivered with expansion, after more than a month. Second, there are many players who paid money for this game since the launch, spent a lot of £££ on upgrades (I was one of them, luckily I have returned my investment) and would like to play the game, not wonder what skills other newbies are using or getting teamed up with people who just run on side and pew pew.
We have balance patch and it’s enough to learn what is what. There is no information yet about new builds, it’s still in beta and will be changed. Why should I waste my time on learning it? Why during weekend I can’t enjoy playing WvW or PVP? Just because some **** decided to search for another OP build so they would be able to satisfy their ego how awesome players they are? Anet, turn your head on finally.
ANET failed again. Some people want to play wvw and pvp in normal way, like they did before…now we have an army of demo **** running around. Thank you anet for proving once again how intelligent your team is. At least it helped decide not to buy an expansion.
Because every balance patch was a fail. Anet is incapable balancing 2 game modes, they olny can creating new pve content, skins and copying gliding and mounts from other games. Sadly. I have made mistake pre-purchasing hot ultimate, I won’t make same mistake woth PoF, especially when demo is absolute failure.
Player who is playing condi thief can’t call himself thief…he’s just a newbie with overpowered build which requires no effort. I honestly felt embarrassed when I was ttrying it out. Problem is that Anet allows duo queue only, that means you may have players in tour team who have no idea how to counter those newbies. Also, that many new players after luck in first 10 games are located in gold+ tiers…which is ridiculous.
Anet balance is more like unbalance. They have no idea how to make more difficult builds more rewarding than 1 button newbie spawn. Also ro the author of the thread, thief has a job in pvp, and it’s not 1 vs 1 kills. When I see newbie condi kitten in my team who has no idea what he HAS to do, well, I just afk
Sadly I am not going to make same mistake I made with preordering hot deluxe edition. It’s worthless. I strongly suggest to wait few more month after release and price will be about £10 on sale. Reason is, Anet doesn’t bring anything to have balanced gameplay, no changes to pvp or wvw. Pve? We have many maps to play in since previous release and many of them are not populated enough. Honestly, this game became another money eating machine where you just kill monsters with most OP classes. Ot is truth that nothing will be better than old good WOW.

You all always cite to “condi is skillless” as though it is gospel truth without any justification whatsoever. Whoever started that meme is a genius of marketing to create something people parrot unthinkingly for so long.
I’ve fought every single condition build in this game. So I know exactly how good the classes are respectively and how good conditions as a whole are. Are there easy builds to play? Yes. Do conditions themselves make them easy? No.
I’ve fought newer players on all the trouble builds (power and condi) and they die quick. The veterans are the ones who do well. And that’s because they have “skill,” by which I mean mechanical knowledge of class and game mechanics required to succeed using a build.
Take condi mesmer/ chrono for example. That’s a condi build that gets a lot of hate. I’ve fought newer ones who were terrible. I’ve fought experienced ones who were ridiculously survivable, stealthy and damaging. The difference was skill.
Skillless? Lol.
First, nobody are saying you can’t counter them. Second, if you are saying that mindless spamming of few buttons is skill, then okay. Fact is that people who are choosing those simple and quite damaging builds are simply less experienced than a person who can quite nicely deal with d/p build. All tou do with a condi thief build is hit few buttons and wait until enemy will have all his cleanses on cooldown. I am playing condi warrior now and I think it’s way overpowered. So yes, those who are playing condi thief builds are simply skill-less and are unable to master more rewarding builds as they require skills and thinking.
Thief, Mesmer and Necro are three exceptions which makes you hate condi:) Maybe we can add a condi Engineer on the list, even though he has zero survivability and it is probably the rarest build out there, ant that’s it.
Never had any problems with condi Warriors, Revenants, Eles, Rangers, maybe some hard times with burning Guards … Luckily only the minority of thieves play condi builds.
Actually majority of thieves are playing condi builds. Okay, I doubt that in diamond and up there are so many of them, bit many more players are in the lower divisions.
Condi thief is a result of Anet laziness…how can build which requires no skill be so rewarding? However, it’s easy to counter them with some classes. Condi thief most usually will have trait to remove condition when he evades attack. Simply hit him with some conditions (if you are condi player) and stand. He will simply die.
I totally agree that those easy play condi builds are simply too strong comparing to skill requirement. I am playing many pvp games every season, my main used to be thief, however I have refused to be one of those useless players. You can spot p/p thieves, who are very easily killable…but still, damage comparing to skill requirement is just too high. When you see thief without SB…well…he isn’t a thief.
Conditions aren’t the biggest issue here. Biggest problem is that every newbie who has no skill can kill more skilled players just because of their ridiculous builds.
Okay, I have never noticed any bot in 240 games I played this season, until now. One engi was always (I was teamed with him about 4 times) running close, even when another player told he’s doing so, then he rotates points:mid, when mid capped, far. He ignores that far 3 enemy players. If close is taken by enemy and my team mate is decaping, he is running from any position to close until point is not capped. Before game he autocasts skills. When his health low he casts stealth giro, even that we are about to take point…ofc, we all in stealth and we can do nothing. he doesn’t respond. And every, I mean every single game his behaviour is the same. I am writing ticked about him to Anet, but doubt they will do anything about it. Sadly, I can’t post his name here…
I don’t understand this. Why are Thiefs so bad for a competitive PvP team?
If you have 5 Dragonhunters, you will win. If you have 5 Necromancers, you will win. But if you have 2 or more thiefs, you will lose in 95% of the cases.
But why? Shouldn’t it be alarming to A-Net, that Thiefs provide such a bad team play support? Especially since they also have/want to play WvW in a zerg and PvP in a team?
Good thief or 2 average thieves will carry all your team. To lose vs team of DHs or Necros…well, you should be absolute *. Problem is, there are not many good thieves. Many players play thief just because it’s strong, in particular condi build etc and it doesn’t require any skill, however when they face more experienced player they die like flies. If you see player playing condi thief, or worse p/p…or even worse, without SB…he’s just a player behind a class he has no idea how to play. This is a reason.

And some professoins don´t have enough stability at all to conter that.
Stabbility on thief or ranger? you are forced to stake speacial skills because they are the only ones that deliver stability..its a shame that anet doesnt se that..I think they dont play their pvp at all
Why you need stability on thief? If you die too fast, play some evade condi spam build, 1 button and you kills stuff, no skill required. If you feel that you have your movement impaired too much, fix your trait a little. Use blinding stuff in the end. This is a problem, newbies are taking easy overpowered builds, they are starting to imagine how awesome and skillful players they are….when reality is just…pfff…he needs stability.
Well, not every developer can develop the game…sadly, this game is one of them. And not MMR is biggest problem, but class balance. Not even 1 season in PVP was balanced and with every new season they adding more crap. Look at condi thieves, you need 0 skill to play it and it’s rewarding, logic? That’s why I just farm reward track now and trying to go down from mid gold to 0
Why can a game like Dota 2 offer no guaranteed rewards for winning matches, still retain a higher playerbase than GW2’s pvp mode?
That’s right, you can easily play 10 games, taking 6-10 hours, and receive no material rewards for your game account.

Because reward is the only thing what keeps people playing. Game is totally broken, boring and not competitive. People were excited about HoT release (I even pre ordered it with my old account), but later they saw how broken this game is. PVE is like PVE, nobody cares about skills, it’s just Fashion Wars. But other game modes are just… PVP is probably the worst among all games, just disastrous. It was bad, but ANET managed to ruin it even more. When you unable to create anything good, you just put RNG on…this is what condies are. They made condi builds strong and it’s just luck which player will spam 1 button better You don’t need skill to pvp, pre season games and your division placement is broken. yes, I have played with ppl in GOLD division with 700 AP…they had ridiculous builds, die instantly.
So, I would spend those 10 hours in 10 games more happily than 2 hours here, even if I won’t get any reward. GW2 is dead, wait until next expansion, you will see how many people will buy it

that’s a good idea if people want to kill you specifically. as an added bonus, it seems the said killing will also bother you to the extent that you write a post on the forums about it. so its like a special deal i guess?
conversely if they want to kill me (someone playing warrior who can manage condi cleanses) i would suggest they play menders engineer. i dont offer a special deal quite as good as yours, but i might shed one single tear for the EP & SB nerfs.
to kill you specifically? Are you from this game? Have you noticed insane stacks of condi coming from thieves? Yes, there are classes who can counter it, but I think people should play what they enjoy to play? I like power thief, why should I play condi nonsense just to win something? Also, don’t forget that you can have just duo queue so it’s just luck what builds your team mate will play. With condi thief you just press few buttons and you give loads of stacks of condi to anyone, you can’t cleanse so fast. 80% of players are running condi builds just because they are OP now, and will be. It’s fact that PVP is extremely unbalanced, and more balance patches coming, more unbalanced it’s. So, if you want to win and have no skill, just play condi build, and I am not talking about harder specs like engi or mesmer, take simple condi thief, or even p/p…you need no skill and you will kill more than you die. It’s if you’re not experienced player.
because Anet is not blizzard. Blizzard is the best game maker for the reason, they have good devs. Anet is like any other NCSoft team, just money making spam. I strongly suggest not to waste your money on game, then they will think.

I am just farming reward. Went to gold in few days from bronze, now easy farm going down I see at least 1 p/p or condi thief in my team, straight “easy relaxed loss”
Hello all real pvpers,
I have been playing this game since launch with few different accounts, my most favourite game modes were the most broken ones, pvp and wvw. However, I wasn’t stranger to high level fractals too. I have left this game few times due to broken game modes and ANETs inability to make it playable for the last…ever. Today, walking home by the Thames, I thought, how it would be possible to make it more “organized”. I am not going to talk about skills, they should be remade from scratch and be different for every game mode. It’s very easy to drop anything on PVE, however, it’s much more difficult in WvW or PVP. Sadly, to avoid brainstorming, developers just drop on condition builds, where everything depends on your luck (sorry for harsh reality). I would like to talk about general changes in rewards and ranking in PVP.
Everyone who played more than few PVP games noticed, that there are many players who have no idea what they are doing, they have new, just created accounts and because of luck are playing in GOLD division. Many of them just farming reward track and doesn’t care where they will end, losing match still rewards you! So, I will start about placement games.
- Players who win their first game should be teamed against/with players who won their first game.
- Players who lost their first game should be teamed against/with players who lost their first game.
- Pre-made teams should be of 3 players maximum instead of 2. It’s very possible to compete against better team when you 3 are on Discord etc. and can coordinate your game play, even when you have 2 players who are bringing team down, you still can compete.
- Placement matches should decide what division you will be placed in. Nobody should be placed in legendary division, it should be achievement.
# If you win 0-3 games you are placed in Bronze
# If you win 3-6 games you are placed in Silver
# If you win 6-9 games you are placed in Gold
# If you win 10 games you are placed in Platinum
- Placement games shouldn’t give you any skill rating points, it should only decide what division you will be. Now you can see many players who won more games and lost less games are way below those who won less and lost more.
- Every division should start from rating 0 (or from the starting number. I want to point out that every player should start his placement division from start).
- Winning games should have scale up. Lets say if you win 3 games in the row, you are rewarded 13 points, if you win 4 in the row then 14 and so on.
- Losing games should take away 10 points, no less or more.
- Decay should be removed. It was absolute nonsense to put it on. If player loses skill, he loses games, what’s the point of having it at all? Not everyone can play very often.
Currently reward is the same if you’re in high division or low, you get same. This system simply creates so called reward farmers (honestly, I am one of those players just because I see no point trying very hard and get same result). How to fix it?
- PIPs are great, all good with them
- League tickets are OKAY too (players usually just want that legendary backpack, let them have it)
- Gold, shard of glory reward should be scalable. You should get much less of gold or shards in lower divisions. Currently for the last chest you get 20 gold and 100 shards. This reward simply brings players who doesn’t care about progression and improving their skill, they just see easy farm.
Well, this is some of my thoughts about PVP. Obviously it can improved and it’s simply my opinion. I will try to update this post with new ideas.

So, just because you play condi since release you say it’s not the easiest build to play? You do nothing, just spam few buttons, it’s same with staff. Yes, it’s strong build, nobody can argue, but it’s easies build for newbies, like DH bow It’s actually sad because it proves how useless ANET creativity is. First, I have suggested to introduce Dragon level requirement to enter ranked. I have suggested to make pre made team fights only. I have suggested to make some kind reward system during season in unranked to make others grow for ranked. Everybody want balanced play, not simple nubish condi spamming.

The biggest issue is when you can’t move character out of the point due to sustain. Another issue is ability to hide NPC’s or heal them in Dusk map…it’s ridiculous nonsense.
The great solution is like capricon, extra points, it makes bunkers to move out of points and increases rotation of characters
Every class has its + and -, if you think something is OP, play it…and it will appear that OP is players skill. However, like I pointed before, pvp should be about rotation and ability to kill, not about endless healing and survivability on point.
Its strange, as the only map I see skill lag in is, EBG, that map is just horrible for it, this last week there have been massive open battles on the home boarderlands and they have been playable even with 3 zergs smashing into each other, but as soon as you get onto EBG and 2 zergs meet its game over, you better hope that your skills cast before the enemies,
I don’t know why EBG is so badly optimized for the battles compared to the other maps.
Thats not true,the bl’s are lagging just as hard.Its just more noticable in Eb cus these comms like to go 3 way in sm all day long eventhough they know it lags the entire server out..hurhur.
Last night on the boarder land we where doing 3 way zerg battles for 2 hours straight, and I had no lag, I went into EBG and had massive skill lag and that was only 2 zergs clashing, I guess everyone gets different results from WvW
That’s why it’s called lag spikes. Today we were fighting 3 way in EB, and no lag at all, later it just hits everyone. It’s like all their wvw data is in one server, I mean all other matches are processed in the same server…then maybe server just can’t handle it.

I played WvW since day one in 2012, and trust me, NOW is A LOT better. I only have lag when all 3 servers are fighting togheter, and they did a really good job with the options.
Is this good enough now, and they don’t need to improve? No, it’s still bad. But at least now, we have this problem quite rarely
Oh I know, I am playing WVW since game launch. And yes, I am pointing those mass fights, especially in SM. Thing is, it’s not our internet connection or PC problem, so those options they gave just to improve our own game quality. Skill lag is caused by their server…don’t know, lack of processing power? I am not at the server, can’t say, thing is it’s their system problem. So I just wanted to hear something from ANET developers, what are they doing about this?

If the time to get other legendary backpacks were equal this wouldn’t be an issue. This really sets a bad precedent for future items in WvW because they’re essentially devaluing the game play by overhauling the item and its requirements.
Majority of wvw players are happy as it’s, just pvers complaining. old wvwers would like to see even rank limit you have to reach before entering main wvw maps.
If grinding (by grinding I mean playing mostly wvw for few years) is a problem for you just because you prioritize lets say PVE, why are you so interested in those skins? They look good? Play for them. If playing to get something many hours is insulting and you aren’t interested in spending those hours, well, you shouldn’t target those skins.
Many people are playing only WvW and pvp time to time, many people are spending thousands of hours in wvw in last 4 years. Yes, they have deserved to have something you don’t have. If you aren’t interested in WvW…well, leave a queue and allow to play for those who are interested.
My point here is when you look at PvP or PvE you’ll find that players (old or new) get ascended items with unique skins after spending a reasonable amount of time in that mode, but WvW requires you to spend up to x100 times effort to get the skins of that game mode. When Anet puts these requirements to get the skins it only makes grinding look cool and makes new players who do not want to go into endless grind stay away from WvW.
I unederstand what you’re trying to say about rewarding the vets but Anet is doing it the wrong way. The best example I can think of to solve this is what WoW or Hearthstone does to reward veteran players:
With the start of each month/seaon there is a new unique armor to get. If you spend time X or reach rank Y during this season you will get the unique skins but if you don’t play you won’t get it. This is the correct way reward loyal players and keep them playing regularly without complaining about grind.
So, just because I want to have legendary armour, weapons etc. Anet should lower requirements for LI and maybe abolish map completion? First 3 years of my gameplay I was playing only wvw, and I mean only. This is my game mode, we were playing it when others ignoring because of lack of rewards. But people enjoyed it as it’s, we played it. Those people pushed ANET to deliver rewards. I have been laying hardcore PVE for a year, it allowed me to craft 12 legendaries in a year, taking in account all mats collected in those 3 years of WvW. WvW was always a hardcore mode, usually with no reward and it was OK with WvW players. Now, when there are rewards, old players are rewarded, those who been playing wvw are happier as they have target to achieve, just those pve players are crying, because they have to play game mode they don’t like. Rank requirement would be lowered they get it and run away. Skin is like title, a sign of achievement. We aren’t pressuring ANET to make it easier to get GWAMM or to allow to bring any two legendaries for “Twice told legend”? If you like or liked wvw as it’s, you will enjoy playing it to reach those levels without worrying about reward. If you just that one who wants a reward and came to wvw for it…you just making queue longer for those who want to play it and you are not welcomed to wvw community.
BTW, like I said before, this is my new account as I have left game some time ago and decided to return with new account in new server, this account has wvw level 60 and I have long way to skins and I will enjoy it every second. I have abandoned every game mode just for wvw, and hope they would fix balance in this game mode, also will give even harder reached rewards. Raids are for hardcore pvers, wvw is for hardcore kitties!

No, because you have to achieve it. You want to get those skins, go play WVW to get them. But people like in PVP, they just come for item and ruining game mode like this.
We have huge queues in WvW due to new players wanting those skins, lately numbers dropped as they noticed it will take a lot of time. Those skins are rewarded for playing game mode, not just to get it because you like it.
And entry rank should be at least 200 in wvw, depending on server.
Im not against the concept of playing to get the reward but anyone who can use a calculator knows that the grind to get ascended armor in WvW is far too high compared to sPvP or PvE and If you think that wasting hundreds if not thousands of hours of your life just to get 6 virtual items on the screen is something that should be rewarded, I find it an insult to human intelligence and an achievement that people should be ashamed of.

Gameplaywise, there is no point of getting more than rank 1000 because all WvW abilities are upgraded. Anet simply made the +1000 WvW ranks to reward the people who still rank up past this level with some loot and fancy titles as a small motivation to keep them playing.
While spending Tomes of knowledge to rank up is good idea to help players get the abilities and let them make a good use of the extra tomes, some ‘EotM-exp-farmers’ and ‘elitists’ keep coming in zergs to attack it because they think that if you do not spend +500 hours grinding levels you do not deserve ‘to get that armor’ like they did.

Others have calculated it would take 2 years to go from 0 to 2000…it’s a reward for those that have put the time into keeping the game mode alive. I’m only just over 200 for playing for about a year, but then I roam a lot rather than zerg, so I’ll have to adjust my playstyle, and have recently joined a guild to get the XP bonuses.
Not truth. I have created new account as I have returned to game, my previous account was lvl 1500+, however I have played mostly wvw when there were no ranks. Now in almost 5 hours I have reached lvl 60.
Rank requirement shouldn’t be lowered. They have introduced those rewards to those who play wvw, we don’t want that every single pver would just come to get those rewards for nothing. At the beginning, after update, we had queues to EB of about 150 people, it took to get in about 3-4 hours. Most of those players in are just pvers who came for rewards. You have to work for them. You don’t like wvw, don’t play it. I have noticed how easy bags were players from FSP, PS…which was surprising…but after you think that more than half of them are newbies, it’s understandable.
Although I have been playing WvW since GW2 launch, maybe not that actively during last 2 years, my new account is lvl 60. I would strongly suggest ANET to put rank limit to players wanting to join WVW. Lets say 100-150 would be great. If you want to fight real battles and not to be a simple loot bag, you should learn it in EotM. EB and borderlands aren’t learning grounds.

PVE: enough fun, I enjoy it even that it shouldn’t be my main activity.
PVP: absolute crap. If you would be a student in university and develop pvp system like this, you wouldn’t pass exams. It looks like developers have no idea how to balance classes so they make condi builds as main. Yes, you can play mainstream builds like others, spam condis or take trapper and go afk…but since when it’s a balance? Balance patch? Anet should be taken to court for lies like this. Absolute disaster, probably the worst pvp system in top 20 MMOs, have no words to express how crap it’s.
WvW: never been alive, by trying to improve they just breaking it.
Conclusion: yes, I bought HoT for a second time, yes I spent a lot of £££ for my first account development, NO, Anet won’t get a single penny from my pocket until drastic changes will be made. I’m currently getting kicked midway through PvP matches since today’s patch. I will get kicked due to connectivity issues then, when reloaded into the PvP lobby, I will receive the error that states log in issues are preventing connection with the server and it still shows me in the match.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We’re aware of the problems and are working on a resolution.
Don’t you think this had to be predicted? You have product, you test it, it isn’t a minor flaw. Does anyone taught you guys how to make test servers? or even if there is some major mistake in code compatibility, don’t you think you should disable PVP until it’s fixed? Now many people are wasting their time for nothing. You should show a little more respect to people who pay your salary.
