Best leveling build?

Zimlobo.3962

Sorry that this does not directly answer your question, but it may help.

If you have the materials and or gold, when power leveling characters I use www.gw2crafts.net to craft my way to around 40-50. I’ll usually do cooking and a couple other random crafting professions. After that I’ll get all the Points of Interest in the cities and then grind with random groups that are running around doing dailies. I’ve done this three times and it took me a little over 2 weeks to hit 80. I’m a casually player; 1-2 hours a day 4-5 days a week, so if you have the time I’m sure it will go much faster.

I’ve been thinking about spinning up an Engineer. If you feel like it let me know what server you’re on and maybe we can putz around together. I’m usually on Sanctum of Rall.

Good luck!

  4. Living story and special events.

Guild Wars 2 Geared for Older Audience?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zimlobo.3962

Zimlobo.3962

Our guild has about 40% under 21 so I would say that more adults play GW2 but more “mature teens” play GW2 VS games like WOW

lol, I beg to differ. I’ve been kicked out of more dungeons than I can count by little teenagers in GW2. Let me give you a comparison. I’ve played WoW since the beginning of it’s existence. I’ll just say 8 years. I was only kicked by a teenager twice in WoW, and he was extremely immature. Fast forward to Guild Wars 2, and I’ve been kicked over 30 times. 20-22ish of those were teens.

That’s because more little teenagers pug, where older people tend to organize into guilds of like minded people. Much of my guild is over 30. Plenty of us are over 50.

Also, how do you know they’re teenagers? The MMO genre is infamous for attracting elitism.

I believe this to be a generational thing. The generation I’m from did everything personally. Mom and pop stores, instead of big huge megastores. That’s what I grew up with. The older you are, the more likely you were dealing with people personally and not systems.

So I’m more comfortable dealing with people I know…because growing up it’s how I (and people my age) interacted.

Now the younger generation, they’re more used to thinks like facebook, games where you pair with strangers over and over again, that sort of thing.

That isn’t to say there won’t be exceptions. There will be younger people who don’t want to pug and older people who like pugging, but even in my guild of 130, it seems to me the younger people just pug as a matter of course, and the older people tend not to pug unless it’s a last option.

I’m not judging this as being better or not better. I’m judging this based on comfort zones. I know how I feel and I attribute it to the world I grew up in.

It wasn’t intended to be a value judgement on anyone.

Interesting observation Vayne.

As for… “From my history I have been completely oblivious to the fact older people (30-50) play.” That’s just adorable. Now excuse me while I go eat a pint of ice cream and cry.

Is there a point to crafting?

What profession do you pick and why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zimlobo.3962

Zimlobo.3962

I play all professions. The minute I start to feel even a little burned out, I swap to one of my alts and the fun starts right back up again. The way I see it is I paid for all of the game, so why not play all of the content?

Any other GW2 players over 60 (age-wise)?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zimlobo.3962

Zimlobo.3962

I like to think that the older players are wise enough to stay off of the forums. Personally, the only reason I bother with these boards is to kill time at work.

<edit>Sorry, I should have been a bit more substantive here. I do know 3 players that are over the age of 60 and 1 player that is 72. It’ll be sweet if this game sticks around until I’m retired so I can play more </edit>

New character, Norn, but then?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zimlobo.3962

Zimlobo.3962

Well, here’s what I’ve done… I have played all classes, leveling a character 10 levels, and then swapping to the next character… repeat till they’re all 80. It’s great fun and I recommend doing it. My first character was a D/D SB condition thief and I leveled him to 80, got world completion, story mode all dungeons, and completed all jumping puzzles. Must say that doing all that on a single character was not as fun as just skipping between a bunch of alts and enjoying the scenery. In a way I feel like I paid for all the different professions, so why not play them all? Cheers

but on serious note, what would the comic contain? unseen destinys edge stuff? pact stuff?

Start small, turn Ghosts of Ascalon and Edge of Destiny into a comic series. Then let the writers and artists take it from there. Ultimately it’s nothing more than advertising for the game and most important a platform for artists to show off. I’ve enjoyed things like the Diablo III 5 part series and the 13 Starcraft books… haven’t read the pile of WoW comics.

Every time that I’ve popped up /lfg I have a 5 man within minutes. Now, I will say that I get it! If you want to run a specific dungeon over and over again, /lfg is not the best way to go about it. The way I use /lfg is to get a full group and then see what people are up for. We might farm, chain champs, run dungeons, or hop into someone’s story.

How many people/Guilds Want Guildhalls?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zimlobo.3962

Zimlobo.3962

Kinda going to go off topic here by not answering the question… I don’t know why, but I do indeed want a guild hall. Seems odd to me that I want a guild hall but I have no desire for a legendary and I’m very happy with my current armor and weapon sets. Besides, there are already countless taverns and small buildings that could easily be considered home-base for a guild. I suppose the draw would be the ability to brand and customize a dedicated hall. Who knows, with enough people and resources a new form of legendary could be a full on guild castle. Imagine a guild having a castle that stands as a landmark in the game for all to see. For something like this to work the requirements to achieve such a thing would have to be nearly impossible. Can’t have the map covered in guild castles.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zimlobo.3962

Zimlobo.3962

For me I don’t feel like the simple task of reaching max lvl opened up the fun per-say, rather once I explored the world fully things got really interesting. When you’re new it’s all exciting and…well…new. After that, the important part is that you took your time leveling and therefore thoroughly explored the world. This is important because exploration gives you the confidence that you can stand to any new challenge; example the Living Story. So in conclusion my fun level has stayed constant, and that’s impressive considering I am a 37 year old gamer who has been around the block a couple times over.

Hey Elias,

At this point for me my favorite part of GW2 are the jumping puzzles. Usually the task of searching out and completing a JP also exposes you to map exploration that you might not have otherwise done. I use the following Dulfy guide to help me find the puzzles, and with some of the really hard ones I go ahead and watch the walk-through http://dulfy.net/2012/09/16/gw2-jumping-puzzles-guides-guild-wars-2/

This is not for everyone but I enjoy it.
