Moment of clarity, i cant live without

Remember to this day that our pet HAS NO WAY to dodge anything, the only thing we can do is press f3 and hope the pet react in time and get out of the HUGE area he might be in and i believe when f3 is being pressed a feature granting invulnerability or a decent dodge should be granted (add a timer between each of the avoidance if needed, i’m pretty sure putting a digital clock in the f3 icon isnt too hard).
An instant TP recall is also a good idea BUT the dodge thingy or invul is still a must if we have to relay on pet so much as we have now..

I also definitely need to mention that tracking what is happening to the pet is hard, we have nothing displaying the condition and control on it, creating a little space on the hud for it below the pets HP bar would fix another problem.

That is because skullfear is actually an environmental weapon that thieves get when they use their steal mechanic on certain enemies. The environmental weapon is therefor balanced with the thief stealing + pet summoning in mind. A combo that at one point was abused in some pve thingy to lock down certain enemies into a state of perma fear. They later made all pve bosses immune to cc

First I hope this thread will be spoted by an admin and developers who cares to see the game and its classes evolve.
Ranger class was at first one of the most powerfull around even overpowered if we look back before all the adjustement given to us (Ranger himself or pet nerf).
Each trait once had a purpose and a deep reason to be the way they were unfortunatly over time most of these trait remain the same but for exemple all of our pets are not as strong as they used to, leaving some or not nearly all trait pet related and some utility skill outdated, weakened or eventually useless/not working in the case of a dead pet.
I also believe most of the cooldown have to be reviewed to match our this weakness, compared to most of other classes which possess the same trait working regardless of a pet alive or not AND with a much faster cooldown and something better effect.

Matter of fact too many trait depend on the being alive factor, toughness and/or vitality of the pet, needless to say that we saw our pets health drasticly reduced in pvp/wvw and so were all of their attributes..

Just to name a few traits which are today hard to get along with:
Beastmaster’s bond becomes useless if your pet takes a hit killing it while it has 51%hp, same deal if it dies over a 1 bad kitten hit killing it right away. 60sec CD not wasted if not triggered.
Shared Anguish (pet has to be alive for it to work) 90sec CD (OMG 1minute 30sec.. too random for the fact that our pet must be alive) (for exemple a similar trait hard to catch the thief has is only 30sec CD) (warrior is being granted balanced stance atleast for such a long CD..) (Elem is being granted a shocking aura each 25sec.) ok.. next..
Empathic Bond in my book is the worst (Pet has to be alive for it to work) Enough said, becomes useless asap the pet is gone.. atleast revamp it so 1 condition is still cleaned instead of 3 while pet is dead, it could remain the exact same if we get the f3 invul/dodge feature.
Signet of Renewal (Pet has to BE CLOSE TO YOU AND ALIVE for it to work) this is also boring to use this skill which sound awesome by the look of it but quickly can become useless if the pet is too far (yes too far from you when you activate it) or dead
NOTE: Actually all of our signet have pet active effect for which we only can enjoy the effect if we are traited with a grand master trait.
Some other trait forces your pet to be in combat for the ability to work which means your can’t press f2 right after you summon it but wait untill it hits or gets hit.
entangle (can’t be used if you are blinded, kitten ?!)
My point here is trully to show how much we depend on our pets and how some left over issues can affect our everyday game play, the pet needs in a way more survivability or we need more control over it or review some of these traits.
New idea should be brought up when it comes to the effect the pets are giving us and to the party, to this day there isnt a single pet granting auras, too many of them are granting too short boons, none does torment, no pet granting AoE stealth like other medium classes are able to (please dont mention the siamouth), i’m sure more idea can be brought up and added.
I had alot more to say and will post it on a next post, I’m pretty sure some serious player out there will be able to mention how some CD are incredibly high compared to other classes and i count on them also to give their feedback with the ranger.

Immobilize? Where? Our Elite? Our Pets? There many classes who can do that way batter than we can do. Regarding reflections, guardian and mesmer say hi.
the only thing we can do better than others is providing unique buffs (because noone else has them). And some niche bunker builds for PvP. But any class is hard to deal with if played as bunker.
I’m afraid you didnt dive too deep in the possible build, take for exemple 1 spider, one of them has a f2 immo + 1 auto immo in its 3rd attack, the dog can stun + immo on f2 we have the muddy terrain and the elite etangle just to name a few.
5# axe is one of the less known reflecter and works 90% of the time with a reflecting area as big as an elem focus and we have the extra dmg’ing and 8-10 vulnera on it.
I can use the pig which drop healing items such as the egg 2k hp + 6initiative for a thief on my team or the seed pod, 10sec water field + regen bound to it, not to forget about the 3 sec elexir which makes me invulnerable (say i combine this to protect me 6sec invu against dmg and the signet of rock thats another 6sec invu to dmg) a total of 15sec against pure dmg and 3 totally against everything.
Siamoth is also nice to use just as much as the boar (boar droping item that stuns)
note that all porcine stun the enemy with one of their attack..
If i was to play bunker i’d go for thief, signet of malice 3k armor d/d none does it better against many opponent imo

We are not in the very best position and i can’t agree that we are forced into condition build, i run a power build which is working properly.
I’m still amazed when i check some of the trait we can pick thru the list is how they set longer cooldown than on other classes, how we get less interesting ones or nerfed compared to the fav classes.. (exemple: 90cd for a shared anguish, which is cancelling a stun/knock dow/daze etc, also the trait doesnt work if the pet is dead. the condi cleaner not working if pet is dead, same for the utility skill, pet too far from you, not working, dead, same problem not working..)
Another problem is that Infact we all know how unfair it gets when it comes to the pet meta, how it never dodge attack and the low responsive f3 (that should grant him 1 or 2 sec invulnerability instead of a dodge), how we can’t see what condition it has in real time and i could mention a few others thing about the pet itself when it comes to granting buff (none of our pet gives aura while i think it should this would be something much more interesting to have than some pointless f2 feature already around.)
Although i still manage to beat any class in WvW or sPvP without using any of the popular build around, i made my own a long time ago reworked it to adapt trough the nerfs and come up with something worth it with my gameplay.
bow isnt the only weapon the ranger has, remember it.

COME ON, You can’t be a real ranger if you havent tryed every trait and every pets.
A ranger on the ground has 3 sources of stealth that i can think of.
1: Hunter’s shot
2: Pet siamouth dropping item granting stealth for 3 secs
3: Wilderness Survival Trait IX if i recall correctly.
Underwater:
Jellyfish throw smoke fields & water fields in which you can double leap with the attack #3 of your spear (dart).
2 of them are exploitable.
Also if you are norn you can always play the leopard and get 5sec stealth with it about 2-3times during the elite.

I’ve been ranger for 1years½ and pretty much tryed everything the class had to offer, i have all classes 80 except warrior & necro, i’m playing WvW daily, did and re did all the dungeon around, ex lvl 51 fractals, new fractals lvl 50 and always used the ranger as my main.
Through my ranger career i’ve felt something like a “hate toward ranger”, people describing ranger as useless for the group and not bringing enough dps..
Not everything of this is true in my eyes as i can pull out some strong burst but now i feel that our class really DO NEED something we could bring in to the group that is trully usefull for the party/zerg that no other class would match or compete against.
Ranger able to kick/steal boon periodicaly:
There isnt that many classes around able to kick/steal boons, to this day i’m aware of 3 classes able to kick boons and 2 able to steal/trade boons if traited or utility skill, but yet nothing in a large scale when it comes to sharing the stolen boons.
Being able to steal and share boons is to me a ranger/pet job and would grant our class something to promote we would finally do better than any other class around and needless to say something interesting to exploit off the ranger.
This could be a trait, a weapon attack queue, a F2 pet ability, an utility/elite skills, this is up to you developpers.
I’d see this as a controlable ability, do-able at the right time & periodically.

what i am saying is a ranger shouldnt be forced to hide behind spirit like a mesmer does behind his clones.
you dont need these spirit and you should still be accepted without (by the way i’m one of the first who came up with a full spirit build more than a year ago, at the time it was pretty unpopular but me and the guys who thought of it pretty much showed ranger could bring in team buff, in both WvW primarely and sPvP.)
the ranger can still bring dps, bother any class, survive a melee and so on, my only wish is to have a pet that kicks boon or introduce it in some way to our class, thats definitely something a ranger should be able to do.

I understand your point, although i’m able to take down any class 1 on 1 and often make it through on a 2v1 fight, warrior/guardian arent even a treat.
I mentionned spirit/bunker build because people often hide behind that build and spam 1, I’m a roamer in spvp, this build allow me to pretty much anti-tag/cap with ease and needless to mention that i’m able to kill.

Yes yamsandjams, i also run this in spvp and so far i was able to defend or attack pretty easily, people often ask me if i run full spirit because this is the only thing they expect from a ranger but i always reply no i’m a stun lock ranger, they laugh then after the match they check my hands hehe.

Actually the sigil of impact works with a GS #5 stun combo + path of scars (i did not have the chance to use this one in the video as i often try to score big numbers with maul, like mentionned it can go above 10k hit), Although this combo GS #5 + axe offhand #4 is actually a full control combo and DEADLY.
Why is it so Deadly, the #5 stun hits for some decent dmg 1-3.5k range from experience and the path of scars (the name says it all) hit so kitten hard, if you manage to throw your axe in a moment of clarity (right after a stun) (150%dmg added to it) expect your foe to be dead (i run a nova explosion sigil on it for extra dmg) or nearly dead and if he is not well the axe would have pull’d him to you and “stunned him” leaving you time to spam 1 on his sorry body
Protect me is usefull and give you the opportunity to match others class invul, you now have to take care of your pet a 100% to keep it alive and be able to switch to a fresh pet to enable this skill and profit from it a 100%, i believe i aquired enough experience to use this skill with félines pets but if you are getting started with it try the pig & siamouth (they are both AWESOME) they stun, and f2 drop some great goodies such as “elexir of heroes 3 sec invul” , " a seed pod, water field" or even a “plasma giving you all boons”.
Note that using f1 or f2, switch a pet also after activating the protect me skill will cancel its effect.

This video will give you a raw idea of the ranger’s potential as a solo roamer, although ranger is to me the one best zerg class (like a thief signet of malice) but everyone refuse to see this, the greatsword has a 1second evade each 3 hits, the cycle last 1.75sec to technically hittable for a minor ammount of time.. Yet you cant argue with a ranger hater he will be right no matter what.
Ranger just have to put their point in the right skill line unlike headless people running 30 30 10 0 0… or whatever… brainless shiiiiii!!iiit

I’ve been considering using the martial mastery but i’m kind of stuck in a gameplay situation where i’ve always used my whirling axe to send back projectiles/protect allies AND mainly use the path of scars at full potential, indeed with the martial mastery i could add a significant survavibility.
LR is one of my alt utility skills replacing the SofS always running the SofR and the protect me friend (too many class run invulnerability forcing us to have temporising skills also).
The idea with this build is to stun/interrupt the enemy and have the "moment of clarity dmg boost of 150% on next attack (my max dmg with the maul on clarity was 12k+)
Having the rock skin 50% protection when Under 25%hp threshold helps staying alive during critical moments, although the auto 3 condi cleaning every 10sec is also wonderful to use but if using this i’d rather have nature protection (protection granted on dmg dealing more than 10% of your hp) it helps saving evades.

It is actually funny how people react when the wind turn around, FR been defending as they could every night in every matchup, sometimes we would have sky high tick even before SE arrived, we also got banged by some european servers who had players from the eastern country or russia with time ahead of us, we could also have complained about it or about the mexican in baruch server BUT we fought ’em how we could without whining.
At some point every server will have full time coverage if they want to win, FR now have it.

Hi John, please give Ranger melee pets a longer range for melee attacks because they will be rooted during the attack and its easy for enemy players to move out of their melee range.
Additionally, Lupicus and Liandri has made it very clear that they can one shot kill our pets and shutdown Ranger’s class mechanic for 45secs/60 secs. Something need to be done about this, either give the ranger a small buff when the pet dies (enrage or something) or reduce the time when the next pet can be up.

Stomp or kill in SPVP is not always a win. If you down him outside the point, it’s a win. But because he has the stun when you try to stomp him, you need stability, which Mesmer’s dont have, or Decoy, which he still stuns through, or to shatter, which is the longest CD and you NEED a clone up for it.
NO i dont agree! mesmer has a stab mantra, up to 3 use with a trait, mesmer can go into stealth with torcch or utility skill/elite he can use the distortion, so my point is that boy need to learn the proffesion he plays!!!!!!!! instead of complaining about this and that, you just a weak complainer

Every classes has an asset which is personal to its own class, ranger is survival and i am glad they have a feature alike, just as much as a guardian heal himself and people trying to get him up.
ALSO, if you didnt beat him with your current build, try to use a torch with the right trait that remove condition whenever you use a torch, you could also have stomp’d stealth him with that last torch.
This was YOUR failure and i believe nothing has to be changed to the current downed state of the ranger, nor any other classes. ranger are already getting most of the nerf around since the beginning because child or easily giving up people complain about them, everyone should have a chance to win with their assets
