They didn’t change anything guys lol. They just made it so you have to stick 30 water and arcana trait lines…the same as it has been forever.
Instead of addressing class issues they are just pidgeon holing elementalists into cantrips and arcana/water again lol.
So…they basically changed nothing so far about ele? It’s just going to be only cantrips forever with 2-3 useless trait lines -_-?
Dunno why they only continue to promote cantrip builds.
This currently gives 1 second of super speed. It’s a bit useless…wouldn’t say buffing this trait to giving 3-5 seconds of superspeed (somewhere in that range) make it a worthwhile trait to take and help buff ele survivability / mobility?
Currently it is useless/underpowered, but I could see players taking this if it offered 4 seconds of superspeed.
This better not have an ICD. If it does it’ll be useless.
Just FYI – We’ll be rolling out another round of Collaborative Development soon. I’ll be working with the balance designers to help get some well-rounded feedback from you all. Start thinking about what 3 things you would change, and keep an eye out for the CDI thread!
Off the top of my head:
1) Ride the lightning cool down reverted to 20 second cool down whether hit or miss. Compare it to warrior rush/sword leap…this needs to happen. Ele has low survivability comparatively to stealth/warrior regen and armor. Ele can still then trait into air for reduced cool down to 16 seconds on lightning skills.
2) Water field for dagger skill 5. Once again, melee class, low survivability there, and more combos for ele to survive.
3) Lower cooldowns on elementalist utilities. Glyph of storms, armor of earth, mistform, etc. all have insanely long cool downs.
4) Signets – improve the active effects to be worthwhile to use.
5) Fire trait line…the fire aura on signet use moved to adept tier…would encourage more build options involving signets. This traitline in general sucks because elementalists have to trait so much into water/arcane.
6) Conjured weapons – give more charges? Unlimited use during the 60 second time they are out? They pretty much suck in PvP/WvW. They’re decent in PvE (lightning hammer)
7) One with air trait – improve it to 5 seconds of super speed…then it will be a trait people would take and would give elemenatlists more survivability when specing into an offensive traitline.
It’s an interesting trait but at 1 second of super speed it’s currently useless.
8) As someone above mentioned, remove the ICD on burning procs on fire auras. Would make those a lot more worthwhile.
Just some ideas off the top of my head from reading people’s suggestions on forums and some of my own

I just bought one and I am so mad. It’s not TRULY account bound. This item should be one-time used to make my all characters be able to enter. ALSO, there should be some kind of [Royal Terrace Waypoint] uncontested for every player who used the pass. How can I feel the convenience if I can enter the royal terrace only with ONE character carrying the item? I have 8x 80 lvls. This is so bad. Please ANet, please change it

I agree, one of this should happen:
- make it like HoM stone (being able to copy the item infinitely),

Only reason i played thief was because of sword infiltrator strike/shadow return. I played this back when no one even realized this was a playstyle, before larcenous strike was introduced.
Back when sr had infinite return range, and sword 3 sent you flying off in 20 different directions you did not want it to.
Back when is/sr was a stunbreaker.
The point is, this was one of the only non-stealth oriented, and more mobility/evade oriented play styles the thief has/had…and it’s gone now.
I played the thief loving the mobility and fluidity and creativity you could use with sword 2…and that is gone now.
So…considering deleting thief at this point, not sure where the next sword nerf will be or next thief nerf, but i don’t feel like playing d/d burst or d/p blind spam or w/e the other builds are.
For me, it was sword mobility with sword 2…and that is gone now. So my thief may RIP very soon.
Thief was what i started as in gw2, and when they announced the patch stuff weeks ago that they were further nerfing infiltrator strike/shadow return i quit playing thief at that point i knew they were not going to stop nerfing is/SR which was one of the only enjoyable things about the thief that didn’t require stealth.
I have not logged onto my thief since this last patch, i have not even tried this massive nerfed is/sr because if i do i feel like i’ll probably delete my thief.
New build: Re-roll as Warrior
I hate ground target spells, probably because i use only d/d ele…should be reverted or put into a trait imo that won’t affect d/d. Having the spell “instant” and centered on me is much preferred to the ground target.
Anet: We want to reduce elementalists need to go down the arcane line.

Screw off anet. Please stop trying to “help the elementalist” with your patches unless you are planning to actually do changes that do not force players into arcane/water for the most part.
Just disappointing. And I still see there’s a 40 sec on RTL meanwhile warriors with 20k+ HP can easily roam with sword + greatsword with shorter cooldowns lol…
If you have all 6 and activate a signet, it just lets you get aegis 1 time per 30 sec? Or do you get aegis 1 time for every time you pop a different signet? Thanks
So are you only able to get aegis from 1 signet per 30 seconds? Or can you cast a signet, get aegis, get hit, then cast another immediately for another aegis???
To 20 second cooldown. Seriously. Look at every other mobility from professions…and then elementalist…

Either way, I have a Warrior/Ele/Thief and when i switch between em it’s a bit ridiculous how much faster my Warrior is with GS rush/whirl + sword leap
And then on Ele I get a 40 second cooldown RTL lol.
It should be reverted. Especially considering the low health of the ele and other lack of disengages. Warriors should not be able to disengage so easily, have more HP, attack, etc…and ele is just sorta screwed if you engage badly.

Nope. It does not need an init increase or any changes at all. The only people “spamming it” are noobs that use their entire initiative pool on 2. The skill is fine as it is to be honest.

There is no discussion to be had. It’s time to change classes. Unless you guys really are going to continue playing Thief even though you know there will be another IS/SR nerf the next patch, and the next one after that.
Anet’s apparent goal was to create the most dynamic innovative and mobile+acrobatic play style with the sword on the thief. And then destroy that beauty slowly, and cruelly, to let you know that they run this shiot. lol.

I just feel sorry for the Thieves that got Legendary swords on their thieves. maybe between now and the next patch anet will get it through their head that infiltrator’s strike/shadow return don’t need any more nerfs.

Good choice Zacchary. My gf and I also re-rolled Warriors a while ago. She because she was learning the game lol and me because I saw and predicted anet would destroy sword 2 a while ago.
You’ll be happy to know though, contrary to anet design and balance, you can get a Warrior with more mobility than a thief or elementalist via greatsword + sword/x + bull rush.
Which is sorta lulzy when you see a Warrior escaping into the sunset by rushing away via jumps, rushes, and leaps that have low cool downs and then you see the elementalist crying in the corner with their 40 second RTL cooldown because anet have no idea about balance lol.
Oh, and did i mention you won’t need to evade because you’ll have insane regen that is passive come my friend, drink a pina colada with me while we press a few buttons every now and then
s/d evasion spec is op as hell. You had to see a proper nerf coming in one way or another.
If you’re a n00b sure. It was not OP in any way. Still is not. It will be completely destroyed if they add the cast time though. Quite sad.
The irony here is that sword #2 IS/SR actually does exactly what “Hard to Catch” does except in a user-controlled predictable manner.

Good luck having a Thief population after you destroy sword #2. Sometimes, developers intention may be good but they themselves do not know what is best for their game.
IS/SR does not need a nerf, never did, still doesn’t. It makes one of the most acrobatic/mobility play styles in the game, which belongs on the thief.
It’s been nerfed repeatedly, over and over. At this point I don’t care because i already am gearing up my Warrior as many other people that left thief long ago probably are as well.
Out of all the professions right now, the thief thread discussing the patch changes has the least amount of people in it. Pretty much proves the thief players have left the forums (or probably the game.). When dec 10 comes in, I bet half of the thieves are going to reroll or leave the game. The rest will just play for the sake of playing the “thief” profession.

Already re-rolled months ago when I saw the steady and sure continual obliteration of infiltrator’s strike/shadow return. I knew it was only a matter of time before Anet destroyed one of the most beautiful play styles in the game, patch by patch.
I couldn’t find a thread to place this in. Here is a summary of what I have seen discussed on the thief changes and some more clarity into what our initial thoughts were and where we stand currently.
Initiative changes
We believe this is one of the most controversial but important changes this patch. The important thing to understand is that we have been and will playtest this a lot more before we push this change. The default rate of initiative regeneration was simply to low and was causing players to either take traits to suppliment it, or to have their effectiveness suffer. This is something that has to change. What these changes intend to do is to increase the power of every single thief build that is not running these traits, and to ever so slightly reduce the maximum amount of initiative you can have per second if you min/max those traits. I know its easy to theorycraft what is going to happen here and there is a lot of danger in that. It is hard to get a sense of this change without playing it, and believe me if I could I would let everyone test a change of this magnitude and gather some more empirical and data driven feedback, but currently our resources are limited, but we still believe that this is a change whose time has come. We will monitor it very carefully when we do release it to make sure it is working as intended.Infiltrator’s Return
The thing I have heard the second most discussion regarding. This is a big change to this skill, but we beleive it is a necessary one. In many cases this is not going to matter. There are only 2 situations where this is a truly impactful change.
1) It stops you from using this skill while stunned, which puts more burden on Sword/Dagger thieves saving their stun breakers. This is the kind of gameplay we want to encourage because it puts more risk in using a rewarding skill like Infiltrator’s Strike.
2) Mostly in PvP, this skill can no longer be used by S/D thieves to teleport stomp someone. This is actually the more impactful moment as it occurs more often, but I think it puts the burden on these players to run a second weapon set that can help them in these situations (OH pistol for instance.)Infusion of Shadow
For basic use this trait’s functionality is not going to change. By many players it was being used to grant some initiative when going into stealth. However there were some abusive builds that were using this to maintain very long stealth uptime without having to use their utility skills. The problem with this is that it lets them recharge those skills while in stealth, which takes away the risk associated with using them. We are ok with thieves blowing their cooldowns to have longer stealth, and we are ok with theives bouncing in and out of stealth, but we were not ok with thieves maintaining long duration stealth through abusing a single trait.Flanking Strikes
I agree that this move may be overkill on the thief. We are currently discussing undoing it. The main motivation was that we really wanted to move Trickster to adept tier to encourge use of those utilities, and the most obvious candidate to move up was Flanking Strikes. This isn’t how we should be making that decision, so we will discuss this and get back to you.Vigorous Recovery & Bountiful Theft
I’ve seen a lot of talk about this as well, and discussing this already this morning the current vigor is a bit too high, but we may have overdone the reduction. I was thinking about going back to 5s or 6s on Vigorous Recovery, and going back to 10s or 12s on Bountiful Theft.Thanks,

Thanks for the reply and thoughts. But you guys are basically destroying S/X here. It’s a bit strange to me and others that you guys say you want thieves to have some mobility and survivability that does not rely on stealth…and then you continually nerf sword skill #2 (IS/SR) which is one of the only non-stealth bread and butter options for thieves to have mobility and survivability.
Please stop nerfing it.

Also, as many are going to point out, it’s a bit ludicrous to cut down on vigor time on the thief when you have a heavy armor class in the game, the guardian, that can maintain 100% vigor uptime.
A lot of the things you are saying are contradictory. You want thieves to have mobility and evasion, but then when they do as intended, you nerf it while leaving the same things on other classes that are not meant to have such evasion/mobility…
I think in the end…please leave the thief alone unless you’re considering ever making P/P not suck

Well that is refreshing. Renewing stamina change they first proposed was very cringe worthy.
D/D didn’t get nerfed. Increasing base initiative gain by 33% is a pretty big deal.
It’s more than a big deal. It’s a MASSSSSSSSSIVE buff to all thief specs.

I’ve often thought having permanent vigor a necessity. We have the WEAKEST life pool and armor pool for a class needing to be right in the action.
This can’t be a real idea.. Not when mesmers and guardians can nearly perma vigor just as easily as ele.
I have an idea. Hire me to help you figure out how to release a patch that doesn’t outright nerf Ele builds.

Your answer to “Lets give ele some more build diversity,” can’t be nerf all builds. You’ve progressively done it, but you’ve also offered NO other options.
Consult with someone about this.. Y’all have to have at least one person who plays a main of an ele.. It’s a mistake and it will 100 percent lose my business.

Already re-rolled 80 warrior a while ago. After i saw how anet was beginning to slowly but surely destroy infiltrator’s strike/shadow return i immediately started an ele and then warrior.
They are nerfing sword AGAIN. So yes, i think i made the right decision ages ago. Ironically, sword is one of the few weapon sets that is not reliant on stealth, and they’ve continually battered it into the ground.
Oh well, waiting for the January patch preview where they reveal they are removing condition removal from the sword too. Then I can just sit here and just shake my head while i play on my warrior and just be sad that the thief used to be my favorite, but it will always be anet’s punching bag.
I find it concerning that they are now nerfing evasion and stealth, which are really the only things that Thieves can depend on for survival. I said as much in the official feedback thread. I can’t say I’m surprised, though, since it’s been in my doomsday predictions for awhile.
This part confuses me, however:

Allow me to be dramatic and say I feel cornholed by A-Net for the time I spent getting my legendary sword. I have always loved sword. I hated when they took the stunbreaker off IS, but at least that made sense. This is absolutely ridiculous. If you can’t use IS to escape CC, then what is the point? Why even use a sword?
IS was the most entertaining skill on the sword bar, and now it is just ruined.
I guess I can transmute my legendary over to my warrior alt I’ll be leveling, since clearly A-Net wants everyone to play one.

The balance(LOL) patch that is going to hit the thief is…once again…nerfing infiltrator’s strike/shadow return.
Patch Preview:
“Shadow Return on Sword. Renamed to Infiltrator’s return. Added a 1/4s cast time.”
So basically, now if you are stunned you can no longer shadow return because there is a cast time.
It’s mind boggling to me how anet is going to continually nerf the one good non-stealth options from thieves that makes for an amazing action MMO playstyle.
The previous nerfs to IS/SR were the return distance, and stun break were removed.
What is next? Going to remove the condition cleanse on this set too?

Arcane III – Arcane Retribution. Moved to Master tier. Decreased cooldown from 90 seconds to 45 seconds.
Arcane IV – Final Shielding. Decreased cooldown from 90s to 75s.
Arcane V – Elemental Attunement. Moved to Master tier.
Arcane VI – Renewing Stamina. Moved to Master tier.
Arcane VII – Vigorous Scepter. Moved to Adept tier.
Arcane VIII – Blasting Staff. Moved to Adept tier.
