I know about the dart/dagger boxes, there’s just a lot of them, and they are very easy to miss, especially in the middle of an encounter with an assassin.

I’ll try the shortcut eagle, thanks, didn’t know there was one.

World 2 Zone 2 too long

I ran out of continue coins, and have no desire to spend the money or gold on an infinite continue coin. I’m too frustrated to keep running through World 2, Zone 2 with 5 measly lives, only to be insta-killed by stupid darts.

World 2, Zone 2 is far too long. And before someone responds (josh) with, “you’re complaining about too much content” I am not. The content is wonderful and deep, challenging, and complex. But these stupid continue coins being finite have done me in, I give up.

My first try through World 2, Zone 2 it took me 2 1/2 hours to get to the dart trap/boulder puzzle only to have to leave, I closed out ready to get back and start all over a few days later. Today I try again, lose 4 lives getting back to the boulder puzzle, get past it, and then hit the next puzzle. Dying numerous times to assassins. Only to find I’m NOWHERE near finished. Another hour later I’m struggling up the pagoda full of darts AND assassins hitting me into dart traps and I finally run out of continue coins/baubles.

There is a point where there is too much, yes I can push through and finish it, yes I can spend 10 dollars and get the infinite continue coin, but you know what? I’m not having fun, I haven’t been having fun since the new patch. Splitting this zone into two would have been perfectly acceptable. I don’t even want to know what Zone 3 has in store for me.

World 1 was so fun, it was a good balance of challenging/difficult, and I wouldn’t even have minded the higher difficulty as the zones are relatively short, I never spent more than an hour on any of them.

Things to consider in the future, meanwhile I’m done, I no longer have the desire to push on with SAB. Which is sad, as it was my favorite addition to the game since launch.

Make Fused Weapons sellable on TP

It is egregious that these weapons are not available outside of the Black Lion Chests. I have never played a game that did not give the option for new items to be available to be sold on the AH/TP. There are numerous examples of game companies allowing everything to be sold on their AH/TP and still making a good profit. I truly see this as a direct attempt at driving sales upward at the direct expense of the consumer. Grocery stores don’t operate on the model that you walk in and by a box that could have that delicious steak you want or a jar of artichoke hearts. Why? Because it offends customers! Customers would turn around and shop at your nearest competitor who didn’t do this. Sure it’s nice to get that steak really cheap, but the times you get the artichoke hearts really really suck. I’m not asking to sell them in the cash shop directly. My analogy was rather poor in the fact that the game industry doesn’t function like the grocery industry does but my point remains. By not having these items be available in any other form you leave a sour taste in the mouths of your consumers.

What really makes this method of distribution harsh is that these weapons are actually pretty kitten awesome meaning if you want it you HAVE to adhere to the method of distribution. These kind of anti-consumer behaviors are the best and most efficient way to drive consumers away from your business. The solution is simple, if the desire is to make money off of gambling, offer a method of release into the market that benefits those doing the gambling. Make them sellable on the TP.

This is a dangerous trend, and it’s really out of place in a game we all paid upfront for. We understand the need to make money to fund new content, but the crossover to this method of distribution makes the company seem greedy, malicious, and untrustworthy.

I have money that I can spend at the BLTC, but I respectfully refuse to spend a single dime on supporting such business behavior and will continue to do so as long as this behavior continues.

You’ll get used to it. Just look for a time when the mob appears to be doing something and then go ahead and dodge. It takes some practice to get down just right.

If you press the v key it’s much more responsive (as you don’t have to double tap), but the v key is awkward for me to press so it could be for you. In that case just reassign the keys.

You’ll have to dodge to get through some of the tougher content in the game. It’s a very useful skill to acquire.

Legendary Grind lousy comp. to Fractal Skin

Simply, once you have all the gear you need, IE in stats, there are only skins to go for. I’m fine with this system, but the skins are tremendous grinds, that at a certain point cease to be optional if you wish to keep playing the game with a goal in mind. If I want a cool skin I have to put a tremendous amount of effort into it. And in some cases it’s truly ridiculous. This wouldn’t even be half a problem if ascended gear wasn’t recently gated into ridiculous time grinds as well. Now it’s becomes less optional and more required. RNG is a fickle beast, I will admit that, and finding the right balance is going to be difficult. In some area’s in the game it’s just fine, but in others it’s truly stupid. I call it a flaw in the RNG system, but ANET seems set on using it so they better be able to figure it out soon. These Fractal weapons are a prime example of RNG gone to far.

I play the game with a goal in mind. Having fun and kicking buttocks in WvW. No grind has become mandatory as of yet, and I choose to keep it that way. If I chose to grind out a particular Fractal skin, that grind would be necessary to reach that goal, this is true, but it would still remain optional. If I don’t get the skin I’m not restricted in ability or access to any part of the game whatsoever.

I also have a goal, I want to enjoy the game (which is doable) and have a bad kitten looking character. Unfortunately, I’ve exhausted all PvE content, and my character wants some awesome weapon skins that I’ll never be obtain without moving into a huge grind. So? Should I quit? Well, I don’t want, and I’m pretty sure ANET doesn’t want me to. But ANET does force people into this awkward position I’m in by having a lot of endgame skins locked behind very long and difficult grinds. PvP isn’t for anyone, and as a result I’m left with very little to do but to look at long grinds as being required.

Now, long grinds don’t have to be absent, Legendaries are fine, but I like to have goals set in front of me that I can see noticeable progress being made on. This isn’t present in a grind like the fractal weapons where it’s all random, or with precursors as another example.

Good news. Both grinds are optional. If you do them, it’s by choice, not necessity.

You know what? I hear this argument A LOT. In fact on just about anything that is in this games “endgame”. It’s optional so you don’t have to do it. But everything is like this, so what’s there left to do? NOTHING.

It’s a problem, your solution isn’t a solution. Anet has decided to add tremendous grinds to this game, and while their all optional it doesn’t prevent the absurd grinds in this game from being a determent to the game as a whole.

Everything should have a recipe associated with it, finding it would be an awesome bonus which is why the system in currents form is fine, but without being to actually craft it in anyway it becomes a MEGA grind. The fact you can’t get rid of them also makes it incredibly frustrating when you get stuff you don’t need and can’t do anything but salvage it.

You may have heard the argument, but you’ve never understood the argument. This isn’t one of those old-style MMOs where you need to keep up with the Jones in order to stay competitive. Exotics practically grow on trees, and actually greens and yellows are good enough for the vast majority of things to do. Ascended is fluff. Marginal stat increases gained by a dedicated time investment, nothing more, nothing less. You want the rings? Hey, Fractals or dailies are there. You want the skins from Fractals? Well, you have a chance to go for it if you wish. Yes, they’re tough to get… otherwise everyone would have them and people would be complaining about there being nothing left to grind for.

Great… This was the push I needed to stop playing GW2 and maybe re-join in 6-7 months. Makes me think what kind of testers they actually have over at ANet. :/

Threatening to quit a game that has no subscription fee is kinda pointless. They already got your money, they really don’t care. The best thing that can happen is people do quit and then the ones that are left on low pop servers have to pay to transfer.

A user that has quit will never touch the cash shop. ANET never wants a player to stop playing for this reason, so yes it does matter.

Honestly, I’ve given up myself, and this is also the final straw. My continuing to play this game will hinge significantly on the severity of this nerf. I don’t even PvP, I just love playing PvE with the D/D build. I’ll try to adapt but I’ve fallen in love with the play style, and losing it will draw me away from the game, most likely.

Safe place to "store" gold

I’ve found myself leveling alts, and not exactly playing the endgame anymore and as a result have a small amount of gold that I’d like to invest not to make money but as a curb to the natural inflation of gold.

Now, I know the first inclination is to say, play the markets with your gold. But I’m lazy, I hate playing markets, and finally I’m not sure I’ll be playing the game much more anyway until something new comes out. I just know hoarding gold is a pretty bad thing to do if you want to at least maintain current wealth.

Any good suggestions? I was thinking lodestones, but then again I’m not sure if Anet will do something related to these obviously overly rare items. T6 mats seem too volatile, which leaves me with high end exotics, or perhaps something else.

Or is inflation low enough that it doesn’t matter to just sit on gold?

Aleator Lokii (You can look up Aleator, I wanted something unique as a title) – Male

Professor Splynn – Male
Blyppi – Female

Zaijj is my favorite name of the 5, probably followed by Blyppi.

Suggestions for rewards

in Suggestions

Posted by: bighaben.5890

bighaben.5890

I have about 500 hours in the game now, and am struggling to even find reasons to run around the world anymore. I’ve done everything, and while leveling alts is fun, it only goes so far when there is nothing left to explore. Now, this can be remedied by offering rewards for going back and doing things over again, this is how almost every game works ever made, and Guild Wars 2 is no exception to this. This is where the problem lies, and that’s the rewards are rather lackluster for doing content over again. Actually, it’s beyond lackluster, and borderline abysmal. The simple fact of the matter is that there is little incentive to do anything in Guild Wars 2 that’s not a dungeon. period. Below I have a series of suggestions, that I think, would be awesome additions to Guild Wars 2 that follow their intentions for the game, and hopefully wouldn’t hurt the economy at all.

1. Add weapon and armor skins as drops to the game. And not a few here and there, a TON of new armor and weapon sets that drop across Masterwork, Rare, and Exotic rarities. As they offer no stat increases this is pure horizontal progression. By adding variety you have scarcity in armor sets, and popular ones will gain value. It also adds a thrill of discovery when you stumble on a new one, and finally makes for interesting rewards for doing stuff around the game. Variety is key here, as to avoid having to nerf drop rates because everything is too common.

2. What are these silly crests/medallions/seals I keep running across and selling to the vendor because they have no value? How about when added to your armor they add special effects to you! Just like legendaries and highly rare items. Then upgrade stats to match exotic level jewels, and create a diversity of rarities to add variety to finding them. I do know what you’re saying though, that this will make legendaries much less attractive as they have those awesome effects. I see a major design flaw here, and one that will end up hurting the game significantly as time goes on. What’s that flaw? By deciding to keep animations, and cool effects to legendaries and very rare and hard to obtain items you have seriously cut that design space out of the rest of the game. In fact, in my 500 hours I have yet to equip anything that does much more than glow a faint purple to my character. That’s poor design expansion across the game. You can have more progression in this area. I am suggesting these crests add 1 thing to your character, maybe at max you could have two or three effects. This still pales in comparison to a legendary, but it makes for a cool find when you pick one up. Also, of course, the more sought after ones will have value and create item value variety as you find things.

3. Greatly expand what can be found in large chests, such as the dragon chests, or the chests at the end of jumping puzzles. I’m talking un-id dye’s, Black Lion Salvage Kits, mini pets, Black Lion Keys, skins, boosters, transmutation stones etc,….the list goes on. Yes, I understand the desire to monetize on many of these objects, but I don’t see how getting a few of these things week will hurt sales if I desire a reliable source of something! I mean, if I want 10 karma boosters I’m probably not going to farm them if I can just buy them.

I think just adding these things would make loot much more interesting, and sought after. Making loot interesting is what is going to keep people playing the game! Better yet, this is horizontal progression mostly, everything is cosmetic, no balancing required, and it’ll feel a bit more like how the game was advertised.

Bonus suggestion: Please get rid of as many soul-bound things as possible, and change them to account bound. I’m tired of using up armor that would be great on an alt, only to have to trash it. I can’t sell it, or even salvage it. It’s immensely frustrating.

Thank you for your time.

It seems that it’s working for me now that I’m not in Fireheart Rise, so maybe it’s just Pig Iron Quarry that is bugged?

It’s you. My intention was to actually suggest Tarnished Coast as the low level zones are full of people! Either you’re playing at a ridiculous time, or have an inflated idea of what “full” is. Tarnished Coast is probably the fullest server on the US side, and has a massive PvE population. On a Sunday night I can’t go two feet without running into other players.

bighaben.5890

Hello all! I’ve put close to 450 hours into GW2 and still don’t have a proper guild! I know, I know, crazy! This is mostly due to just playing with my friend, but lately I’ve been wanting to delve deeper into wvwvw, and spelunking through dungeons. Additionally, I’ve recently transferred to Tarnished Coast to dabble in the art of Role Playing. These are all, obviously, very social aspects of the game and now need a guild to move forward.

A note on the RP aspect, I’m only mildly interested in RPing, and would only do so on one character, as of right now, and only part time so I would like the option to role play, but no set requirements to do so. Also, due to this I don’t want to be required to have a character sheet/background/whatever required on start, I’ll get to this later on my own time if I like RPing on GW2. So, basically I’m experimenting with roleplaying, and thus want a guild that has an emphasis on RPing, but also can live with members not involved with that aspect of the guild. (though it’s very unlikely I’ll reach this point!)

About me:
-23 year old studying history at a school in SE Texas. I consider myself very mature for my age, and thus want a mature guild.
-I’m a male, guess that could matter!
-I also have a name, it’s Ben, hi!
-I have a rather strange humor
-My RP characters are almost never “normal”, I like to explore insanity, and thus most of my characters will be “unhinged” (If you will?).
—Also, almost certainty always Asura.
-I live in CST; however, probably am more aligned with EST or even late European hours due to school and work. To elaborate, I play mid mornings during weekdays (9am-noon), and evenings on weekends (3PM-10PM).

I want an active guild with a semi-large membership (15-45) that is active in wvwvw, PVE, and dungeons. I’m not a fantastic player but I can hold my own fairly well.

-My main is called Aleator Lokii (Just call him Lokii) and is a lvl 80 Ranger, with full exotic gear, so I can do all content no problem.
-My semi-RP character would be Zaijj, a rather unhinged male Asura (even more so than usual) elementalist around level 25 right now who likes to play with fire, and fails miserably at backing down in a fight. I do intend to get him to 80 to do things other than RPing, but I feel this character is the best one for RPing.
-Meet Silver Quickpaw, or Tykk, an Asura experiment gone wrong! Tykk, one day experimenting with transformation techniques, that would “revolutionize the industry”, he transformed into a Charr only to find he had no way to return to his normal physical self! Ridiculed and laughed out of Rata Sum, even being called a spy or occasionally a bookah he traveled to the Citadel to assimilate into the Charr civilization and lifestyle. level 6 engineer, primary RP character.

I want an active guild, I can’t emphasize this enough, and for that reason I want evidence that your guild is currently active. I don’t care how you show this, but you must. (Get creative!)

Anyway, message me in game, or reply to this thread. I’m rarely logged in on the forums so I may not see a private message quickly.

Gold isn’t the problem. If everything you need to make things costs mats, then the problem is the mats. They don’t drop nearly enough.

My suggestion to solve this issue:
-Increase drop rates of t6 mats by around 10-15%
-Dragon chests drop 2-5 t6 mats

Done, should solve A LOT of problems.

No, I don’t have a ton of free time. In fact, I generally only farm for about an hour, or maybe two a night. I also hate grinding. Which is why I want to use the Magic Find, to make it easier.

But I have this nice powerful armor already, that I should be using, after all it’s the best armor in the game stat wise. Why should I be forced to play the game with MF armor to get to my goal faster? This is the tension I was talking about. An unnecessary one. Which is why I suggested at the end to up the drop rate or, decrease costs, or give everyone MF equally to compensate for the increase in time (for those players with little time). I think Anet, and I agree with them, see legendary’s , and cultural items as simple rewards for playing a while. MF circumvents that ideal.

Please remove magic find

bighaben.5890

Magic Find is not in the “spirit” of Guild Wars 2. Why is it here? Why does it exist? In attempting to answer these questions, I found no clear answers. The simple answer is that it shouldn’t exist.

There is no endgame. This is not a complaint, but an observation. The game is focused on providing a content stream to keep players playing the game, and not grinding away for hours getting better equipment. There is a grind for Legendary items, but this is not the primary goal of the end game. This is support for Magic Find, but with such a small amount of players being the target group for Legendary items seem like a rather small reason to support its existence.

Everyone has the best armor. You can get the best armor of the game with relative ease, without magic find. This leaves the only stuff to get as being purely cosmetic, or having unique stat combination. However, most of these stat combination exotics have requirements that are not affected by Magic Find. Karma merchants in Orr, dungeon armor sets for tokens, and PvP items for Badges of Honor. So, you’re not using MF to obtain these items.

So what is everyone using MF for? Obviously to earn gold faster to get legendary items, or the few items in the game that are obtainable from the Mystic Forge, and finally cultural sets. This makes sense as a reason to include Magic Find, but let’s look at this more closely. These items are not necessarily better than anything else, so there is little reason to obtain these items to have better experiences in dungeons, general pve, pvp, etc,. But to get these items people are primarily using MF based items to get them quicker. So, these players finally reach the end of the grind train, and are left with their new shiny armors and weapons and nothing else to earn. They return to playing the game with their goal reached, and I feel this would be the end of the game for players.

It is thus better to let players work toward these items with armors, weapons, and accessories designed to be used in dungeons, general pve, and pvp without MF, then it is to play this same content with only MF gear. You’re just reaching the end goal faster, and thus the problems of having nothing to do more quickly.

But you don’t have to use Magic Find. However, since Magic Find is in the game, and makes things more efficient then it is only logical to play with Magic Find items. This lessens Magic Find as an option and makes it feel like a requirement. I’ve been trying to avoid it, but everyday I want it more and more, just so my gold goes up a little faster as I work toward my cultural items. This isn’t a tension players should be forced to contend with. That tension being, should I shell out for some magic find, to get the expensive stuff I want, or just keep working at a slower pace toward the same end goal.

Wouldn’t the game become more of a grind? Sure, but also no. You’re grinding either way, but let’s face it, there are actual endgame problems to Guild Wars 2 that needn’t be addressed in this post but may magnify the need for MF to reduce the grind feeling of the game. There are options to address this such as increasing drop rates of mats or reduce costs of legendary items to compensate. Adding a system similar to Diablo 3’s Paragon Level that adds MF as you level up naturally, or just remove the system and add more content to pass time and remove the “grind” and make it feel more like a game after 80.

So, in conclusion please remove MF as I see no point in playing the whole game with it to get items that I will only use after I’ve played all the game has got to offer. Let the expensive stuff be rewards for playing the game a long time, and not have MF being a way of reaching that reward faster.

Clocktower Way To Fast

I was trying this right up to a server reset. With a minute left there was only three people doing the puzzle. It was no easier. The other people make a few jumps at the beginning more difficult, but the puzzle itself is the hard part. So I agree, the clocktower is a little too fast. I’d like an extra second or two to make a mistake. Or to be able to recompose myself halfway through after a mistake. Seriously, one delay on jump 1, and you’re screwed and know it too.
