Change 'ranked win' daily

in PvP

Ranked and Unranked both count as “rated” matches so if you just want to fish for a daily win you can queue Unranked with a premade. It’s a mad world out there.

Ranked has pips for the reward boxes, and although not always, the matches tend to be more balanced with similarly skilled players, and thus some would prefer it and find it fun.

Not if the player is farming the 3 Ranked daily matches required for The Ascension. This absoultely requires ranked.

I loathed every single minute of it.

I know I’m pretty late to the game and you’ve probably heard it all before, but I thought I’d add my voice in case it makes some small different for Path of Fire.

The entire story and all the maps felt like a complete chore. I have no interest in any of your “clever” mechanics, mazes or puzzles. I don’t care for pointless long and drawn out fights either (soloing hero points because nobody plays this game anymore).

I’m just a PvP player back from a long break and I only really want to enjoy the new elite specializations (the only value HoT added). Honestly, I used to find map completion a relaxing and nice stroll through the world but with the jungle I can’t see myself ever going back. Anyway, I hope either PoF is made less tedious or Elite specs are just made available on the the TP for gold/gems.

Sorry if you’ve heard this a million times before.

Nice, can you give me a few examples? What areas/mob/bosses? What drops and skins?

You might also want to check out the items for the Treasure Hunter and Exotic Hunter collections. Some of them got nice skins and some of them are really pricey.

you do know that Precursor also drop right ? bassicaly what you want is there hunt for loot but you bought it instead this does sound like a buyers remorse….

I have around 6k~ hours on my account and I’ve gotten 1 precursor so far. One! That’s not really comparable to what the OP is talking about.

Thank you! And yes!

Grr….I hope the new forums, should they appear, don’t have the irritating lose-your-post-because-the-forum-decided-it’s-time-to-log-in-again.

But, there are items that drop from specific areas/mob/bosses. The drop-rate might be rare, but not impossibly difficult (with a very few exceptions, and still not impossible). If the drop-rates were more common, those items probably wouldn’t be near as desired or coveted. And, there’s almost always another way to acquire them.

Nice, can you give me a few examples? What areas/mob/bosses? What drops and skins?

Not really. I only had to spend my PoF gems on buying the Precursor Dawn. And I don’t regret it. Mystic forging precursors is not worth my time.

If I understand correctly, you’re advocating for more random loot, with high-enough drop rates that you can get the ones you want. You’re not alone.

However, there are also plenty who hate that. Generation 2 legendaries use account bound precursors that must be ‘collected’ and can’t be found or traded, because people asked to eliminate those aspects. People also weren’t happy with the randomness of Silverwastes armor acquisition, which is why a lot of HoT skins require specific achievements. In other words, for some people, “spending countless hours searching” isn’t rewarding at all; it’s just busy work.

ANet has always tried to find a balance between those extremes. Unfortunately, it’s mathematically certain that some people won’t be happy with it. Some, like yourself, really like farming for the one thing they want; some can’t stand it and there isn’t a good compromise.

The closest the game can get is having a mix of things. So there are super-rare items (e.g. Chak Egg Sac) and very rare (e.g. Lightward Battle Hammer & Staff) and simply rare (e.g. Jormag’s Breath. You can choose whether to farm them or buy them in the market place, same as in GW1 where you could sit in Kamadan to buy an Icy Dragon Sword or farm (was it ice imps?) yourself.

tl;dr there is some “loothunting” in GW2, but since many people seem to hate it, there’s also a lot of achievement-associated skins, too.

I don’t think I’m advocating for random loothunt as exists in the current GW2. I know there are named exotics and precursors, but these are impossibly difficult to get the ones you might be after. What I am advocating for, I think, is ‘targetted loothunt’ where we know that certain item skins of a type drop in specific areas and we can go out and try to get them.

The problem, I am sure, is the fact that the Auction House exists and so if any rewarding loothunt was offered to the community, the AH would be flooded with everything and thus defeat the purpose of the hunt.

The only solution as I see it would be to Bind on Account the rarest of skins when they drop.

So I just created my first legendary – Sunrise – and I have to say I feel pretty empty about it… [TL:DR make loothunt exciting again]

This is not to say that I’m not pleased with how it looks or that I regret making it. From day one when I first saw the sword, I’ve thought it was awesome and I’ve wanted one ever since, but getting here (as a casual player) all these years just doesn’t fill me with excitement.

I think this is fundamentally a problem with itemization and the loot hunt in GW2. In this game, everything is designed as an achievement. That’s fine. This is an MMO. But part of the magic of aquiring the items we so desire is being able to find them out in the world. Nothing compares to hunting an area for an item/skin that you want, spending countless hours searching, until you finally get it to drop (as loot).

And that’s the problem. I never loot anything interesting in this game. Don’t get me wrong! I’m not arguing that my Sunrise should have fallen from the sky. It’s okay to keep things difficult, but we need to feel like our explorations into the world mean something other than unlocking reward tracks and collections.

I’ll give you examples from a better game – yes I’ll say it – Guild Wars 1. My fondest memories in Guild Wars 1 were of the loothunt. Some of them were removed from the game, like the Crystalline sword chest run where you could solo run to a chest in Lornar’s Pass and open a strongarms chest with a chance to drop one (I found 4 Crystallines this way). Others remained a routine joy, like kiling imps for a chance to drop an Icy Dragon Sword, Sorrow’s Furnace to get a few Greens, or just running Fissure of Woe just to find a few Chaos skins.

Look maybe I’m wrong and some of this loothunt can be replicated within GW2. Again, I’m pretty casual (only exotic armor and no max 500 crafting for ascended). If there are exciting loothunts in the game, I’d be happy if you could point me towards it.

I hope that Path of Fire makes the loothunt exciting again.

I bought Guild Wars 2 for $15 on sale last year and it was definitely worth it. After a year of playing, I would even value the content of the original game at $20, but not a penny more.

Don’t get my wrong. I am happy to pay up to $100 for games that have engaging story, excellent combat, and compelling goals and rewards for the long term, but Guild Wars 2 just isn’t a game that offers all those things to a high enough standard to justify a premium price.

Enter Heart of Thorns. I think I might like to play some of the content. Also, being a PvP player, I’d definitely like to try some of the elite specs, but as a consumer, I just don’t see $50 of value. Having followed a number of forums, videos and hearing feedback from players, again, I’d only pay $10-$20.

Still don’t get it. Why do we care about slowing things down? Why do we care about “protecting” the market?

Imagine if you could run through everything, be able to craft everything near instantly.
You don’t need to wait to do any bosses, they just auto spawn on repeat. Meta event chains, ascended crafting, etc.

What happens then? There is nothing left to look forward to. Nothing to work towards. No reason to continuously play. No reason to log in everyday.

Also with that, the economy goes haywire. Suddenly tons of gold, mats, items. flood the market. Then nothing is worth anything, or costs the sky.

Then at the very extreme, people stop playing. They have thousands of gold, but nothing to buy. Nothing to work towards. Everything has been done. And the game slowly dies.

Time gates are a great and easy way to keep players playing. It’s become almost an industry standard. Even super popular games like Angry Birds, or Candy Crush are time gated. You only have so many lives per day, but you can spend some money and buy more, or wait. But it keeps players playing. That’s the sole purpose of it. And it seems to work rather well.

But with time gates, you aren’t working towards anything. You are just waiting for the clock to reset.

Still seems strange to me. It doesn’t really bother me since it doesn’t affect me. I simply don’t craft in Guild Wars 2. But I was surprised to see so many time gated features in HoT. It’s one of the major reasons why I’ve decided not to purchase yet.

I understand that crafting is designed to prop up the economy, but there are other ways they could do that frankly…

How about designing some actually attractive looking skins or release some halfway decent minis for people to sink their gold into?

I think Anet needs to acknowledge that not everyone enjoys crafting and there should be multiple ways of obtaining end game gear. I’m not saying I need EASY ways of obtaining ascended, just alternative ways.

P.S. I’m holding on to my ascended mats because I might be forced to craft ascended gear if I’d like to play some of the more interesting Raid content.

It would be nice to get some sort of confirmation that we will be able to farm ascended armor and weapons from drops more easily in HoT.

I’d really like to delete all my ascended mats and leave the prospect of ascended crafting behind forever…

Also, it would put an end to this endless debate about gear grind and hard gated content as with raids and fractals.

P.S. If you enjoy crafting, that’s fantastic. But it should be a choice.

Awesome logic bro.

Raids are designed for people who smashed their heads into this game for the past 3 years? Cool…

I feel people nowadays want everything for free and to never actually earn anything.

It’s ok. You don’t have to have ascended gear. I don’t and I live.

Because wanting a way to get something other than the “prescribed” way is wanting something for nothing…

Logic failure…

That was a general statement in regard to an entirety of forum. That’s why “i feel people”. So who’s failing logic here? I didn’t point at anyone. Just general sentiment about what’s going around these forums for quite some time now.

Also you can want but they are not obliged to deliver that to you. Lots of people want a lot of different things. Often they contradict each other so that’s a no-go. What I said is also true. If he doesn’t like it he doesn’t need to do it. I dislike crafting so I don’t do it. It’s just that simple really. If you want more then work towards it.

I feel people nowadays want everything for free and to never actually earn anything.

It’s ok. You don’t have to have ascended gear. I don’t and I live.

You really should read an entire thread before you make assumptions about what it’s about.

Nobody here wants something for doing nothing. Its the process of the something and only purpose of that something that makes it very very awful.

Then as you read on you would see the OP wouldn’t mind earning the gear in other ways. Those ways taking a decent amount of time as well.

Some people just wanna be rude to be rude. hmph!

There’s literally nothing rude about my post. I don’t get where you get the idea that it is? I gave advice that I myself followed. I dislike crafting so I don’t do it. No sleep lost over it. Earning in other ways… see above. Many people would want to earn it in other ways as well and these ways may contradict each other. They won’t give in to wants of people for the sake of satisfying everybody because it’s impossible.

I would want a piece of ascended gear of my choice for every 7th day logged reward instead of whatever it is right now. Does it mean ANet should do it because I want to pursue it in that way ?

You do have a point. Lots of different players have lots of different tastes. I certainly don’t want anything for “free” or easy though.

I am genuinely surprised at how many people claim to enjoy gaming the economy and grinding gold/mats….

It is true that different interests are indeed in competition, and if the developers were to design a game where people could earn ascended gear directly from playing content then certain existing players who enjoy the long grind or market manipulation will lose…

We can’t have it both ways. At this point, the simple answer for me is not to buy HoT until I can see evidence of the developers philosophy on loot rewards (hence my original post).

I don’t like crafting in GW2 either and I have been a sole crafter in many of games.

Now I don’t dislike it because of how crafting works. I love discovering my own recipes. When you craft in bulk how it goes by faster and faster per item you’re crafting. It’s a great setup. I love the actual CRAFTING.

But mats are worth more than the items you’re making. Everything you make is nearly useless. It’s simply a grind to make end game gear with nothing of value anywhere in between.

It’s sad to me that the popular or most common mindset is “Well it is what it is. Suffer like the rest of us” rather than say “Hey, lets suggest something that can improve the experience”

I would love level 1 crafting to cap to have more meaning than end game. Something that could increase the reason to enhance the enjoyment. Account bound unique skins. Selling to merchant is a good chunk of change. Etc etc. There are plenty of options that could improve crafting to make it feel more than just end game gear.

Sorry if this wasn’t quite on subject. But I feel if there were rewards for people to do such other than end game gear even if it wasn’t 100% enjoyable they would find the rewards at least worth the ride.

This is exactly on subject. I agree with you. My original post was mostly concerned with improving the loot hunting experience, but my overall distaste for crafting is precisely because of what you mention here.

The crafting system (and trading post) are so obviously part of a scheme by Anet to keep players spending gold and real money in the gem/gold currency exchange. It is a system that produces life jackets (read ascended armor) designed to keep the game afloat while they work out how to deliver PvE content.

To be brutally honest, ascended gear stats (being higher than exotics and open for Agony Resistance) were a huge design mistake. When they should have been developing cool looking skins and more challenging dungeons for us to focus on, we were instead funneled into websites like GW2crafts.net and youtube to find mile long recipes and current market exchange rates. There is no real discovery. There is no real challenge.

I suppose what this thread is really asking is what are the developers doing to correct past mistakes in itemization and rewards.

I’m guessing you didn’t read the thread. I’d love a crack at higher level dungeons/raids, but I don’t want to craft in order to get there.

You are absolutely correct. Crafting is a huge part of the game. This is the whole point of my thread. It shouldn’t be.

Well, right now fractals is what will net you Ascended gear without crafting. You just need Exotic. As you level in in fractal reward levels you will undoubtedly get Ascended rings. Infuse that ring with a 5AR infusion and now you have access to level 10-20 (for the most part). Next ring you get, another +5. Can’t remember if you can buy accessories with relics since I use commendations, but then focus on getting guild commendations or save up laurels or something to get the other trinkets you need. +5 those. With +25 AR you can do up to FoTM30. At that point start saving relics to get your Ascended backpiece, if you don’t already have one. At 30 you will start seeing Ascended gear drops. Just keep getting those fractals in each day and eventually you will get a set.

Will take awhile, but as you said, you are less concerned about ease and time and simply being able to get Ascended without crafting.

As others have definitely pointed out, it is far faster and easier to do it with crafting.

It’s not bad at all, and honestly the daily timer on the Ascended mats is only an issue if you already have all of the other mats you need and you’re just waiting. And honestly, in a real pinch, if you have friends or a guild, people are willing to donate their daily mat to you. I do it all the time. Just send me the mats, I’ll craft the Damask or whatever, and send it back to you. Piece of cake.

Thanks, this seems like an okay progression. I’ll give fractals a more honest try and see how quickly I can build the gear. I play mostly PvP and have found a few ascended rings as well as an ascended weapon, so I guess I have my head start.

If ascended gear is in fact not required for Raids, then HoT could be in a really good place for me. Still, I do hope looting gets more exciting/better. Nothing beats the feeling of actually finding your stuff.

Wow amazing another “i don’t like X content but I want the reward” thread…
You people are amazing, seriously you never stop to impress me.

GW2 is a package (as any other game) and YOU CHOOSE not to do part of it and yet you find totaly legit to ask a way to get reward relate dto the content, once again, YOU CHOOSE not to do.
You don’t want to craft, you don’t want to buy, you probably don’t want to raid/fotm/dungeon either I guess. So basically you decide to skip a huge part of the game and yet complain.

Hopefully this thread will be lock just like the other similar thread. And I’m pretty sure no one will bring any valid argument, 2 to 3 players will just respond to each other in an endless thread… just likeit happened in similar thread about gear, raid, hard content…

I believe they stated that the raids would be balanced around exotic gear in the PAX announcement of it.

Fractals, you’re out of luck on not crafting unless you get lucky with drops while playing Fractals. But that is the content specifically designed to be balanced around ascended gear. But you can do the lower levels with no ascended gear so you aren’t completely shut out of the content.

Thanks, this was the answer I was looking for. I could be ready to buy HoT now :-)

well, isnĀ“t that cool? So you only have to do it for about 10 seconds a day then.

You guys can defend the crafting system all you like. I think it’s great that so many of you enjoy it. And yes, it is better than most MMOs out there. But I find it interesting that none of you have addressed my main concern:

Why shouldn’t ascended level gear (full sets) be obtainable from looting and just playing the game? Sure, there is a very small chance to loot the gear in Fractals, but nobody here would seriously argue that it is a viable alternative to gearing in full ascended.

Those of you who are in a position to loot a lot of ascended gear most definitely crafted your way to that point. Which is the problem…imo.

Would it help you guys if lootable ascended gear was really ugly so that everyone could see all of your hard work over the years as a crafter?

Also, are you by any chance the same Bladezero from the D3 forums, father of the Demon Hunter Grim Sever build?

No thin veils here.

I’m excited for most of the raid news. And gear grinders/crafter players should have shinny legendary armor, imo. But that is all ascended armor or legendary armor should be…just shiny, not required for participation in end game content.

I’d like to play in those raids without having to go through the crafting system or the trading post system.

Yep, I’m from Diablo 3, which doesn’t get loot right either btw (loot in D3 is far far too easy to get). I’m not asking for ascended gear to be easy to acquire. Just make it possible to acquire at a reasonable rate from loot drops.

Ascended items already drop relatively frequently in Fractals, and now that you can convert all ascended weapons and armor through the Mystic Forge for no more than 10g per item, it’s easier than ever to deck yourself out in the ascended gear of your choosing.

Also, Zalladi is probably right. Anything dropping Legendary pre-cursors might also be dropping ascended loot too. We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s not that bad.

You need ascended gear in order to play Fractals at the level where ascended gear reliably drops. Gear most certainly does not drop frequently for players without agony resistance.
